Katie G on Katie Couric, October 3

I admit I delayed putting this one up as I kept hoping it would go away.

Reality TV is more than a guilty pleasure for many of us – it’s who we are. TV has been bringing us into one another’s homes for decades. It’s become a place where people put their lives on display and others go to experience reflections of themselves. In this show, we’ll explore the reality TV phenomenon through some of today’s best shows that take a snapshot of America while shining a light on who we are. And one of the most well-known mothers of reality TV, Kate Gosselin, will tell us how she’s now doing it all on her own – as a mother of eight.
From TitanTV:
Scheduled: reality TV stars reveal what happens behind the scenes, from Kate Gosselin, to Abby Lee Miller, the cast of "Gold Rush", and medium Theresa Caputo.

Kate on Andy Cohen October 11, 11 PM, Bravo

I wonder if it was taped before the book came out. Hopefully, not.

Hope Katie asks some tough questions.

Ugh, we saw how she does it. Jon is still around and stills sees the kids. They make it seem like the dad never sees the kids.

"Hope Katie asks some tough questions".
Sadly, that will never happen. The book tells how these interviews are conducted - Kate agrees to do the interview only if the network agrees to stick to a list of questions prepared in advance by her publicist, who sits in on the interview (out of sight of the cameras) and stops the interview immediately if the host asks a question about an unapproved topic.
This explains why Kate has never been asked any tough questions - it's a carefully scripted PR exercise for her.

sglily said...

Ugh!...I totally agree-carefully scripted PR exercise. Same old story. Kate stares off into the sunset, gathering her composure, talking about being a single mom, the kids are ok-no, they're "doing awesome", and her and Jon are on friendly terms "for the kids". (It's all for the kids.) A question about the pic of Mady in her shoes will be in the script, maybe a question about the book will be as well-with a short, scripted answer about people making stuff up or twisting reality into a money-maker, followed by a big 'thank you' to all her fans for their support, Katie really should have had Jon on, his ex-wife is so played, and God forbid she mention anything about a "next move" (dating show, any other media gig)...

One reason this GWOP website has been so good is because the readers, who were and are clearly disturbed by the treatment of the Gosselin children by Kate and TLC, have strongly voiced their opinions, en masse, to sponsors, interviewers, networks, etc..

Email, FB or Twitter Katie Couric with your concern and questions:

Just made a contribution to Robert Hoffman's legal defense fund on the Gosselin Book site. Can't allow this to be swept under the rug again by her PR machine and lawyers.

I believe Robert Hoffman. I think this woman is nuts. I remember a show when they moved into their mansion and she was complaining about how dirty the refrigerator was. They showed her cleaning it and she was using a toothpick! I thought to myself then that this woman is anal and fanatical.

Shoka's Understudy said...

And she was critizing the former owner of the house about the refridgerator. Saying how horrible, nasty it was. Why would she spend hours cleaning with toothpicks and then get another one? I wouldn't of cleaned it for hours if I was getting a new one!

I remember that the former owner was a dr. and he was compensated for the embarrassmening comments.

She is anal, bad and fanatical. She desperately needs help before something really really bad happens to the kids.

just saw the Katie show an it was embarresing...she tried I counted 4 times tryin to get a response from the audience an failed terribly..they just sat there stonefaced, you'd have to be nuts to put this leper back on tv, an the lies, lies, lies continue an ya knew she'd hide behind the lawyers about the book

I'm about half way through the ebook and the only thing that is shocking to me is how stupid Kate Gosselin thinks people are. I watched today's Katie show and the same ole' fluff questions were asked of her. She spit out the same answers she has for years...single mom, raising them all alone, only have minimal help 10-15 hours a week total. She can't return to nursing b/c of childcare costs. I would loved to have Katie say "work while your kids are at school, idiot!" She's hell bent on staying on TV and talked about wanting a dating show. Katie Couric didn't ask one tough question and when she did bring up the book Kate shot her down with the "I can't discuss it" excuse. Whatever...this woman is a slippery liar that has by some good luck escaped being exposed for the abusive wench we have all known she is. I had some high hopes of Katie Couric today but of course Katie Irene comes out the victim once again. Yuck!

Kate, in regards to the real-ist reality show: "We don't do retakes."
Wow, won't even give on the little things.

According to the interview a nurse works 12 hours a day, EVERY day, and her salary wouldn't pay for the babysitter.
School age children only need watching after school. There is a perfectly good, loving father in the picture. You can't ask him for help?

According to her, her degree doesn't help her at this point. So why isn't she working towards one that will?

My tv wasn't up that loud, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed the audience didn't react/laugh the times she tried to elicit it. They responded to Katie C. just fine.
There was one shot of an audience member laughing, but you could clearly see another woman behind her who was not pleased!

Katie C. pushed a little, and I almost thought she was going to go farther, but she stopped short.
I have to admit Kate G. looked pretty good, but when they showed the large picture of her and Jon behind them, it's just striking how much she's had done.

jennine s said...

Nurses work 3 12 hour shifts a week, and 4 daays off. so would only been a babysitter about on e day as Jon could babysit on the weekends.

kinman said...

Kate could also work weekend option as an RN when Jon has the kids. There is usually a great enough demand for nurses that they can work part-time and still make great money. She just needs to admit that she does not ever want to go back to that lifestyle, and would rather get back into the television limelight. She acts like nurses make such a pittance that she could not possibly make it on a nurse's salary, and the fact is; she just does not want to work a "mediocre" job. And, while I do not know their situation, I am sick of her acting like Jon is not around, and her saying that she is raising 8 kids alone is a real slap in the face to him. I'm sure he does contribute in some ways, even if she does control their TLC money somehow. She was so evasive when asked about their relationship, and no interviewer ever really pushes her on the issue, and she never gives a straight answer; it is all about HER and her self-sacrifice. Unless she can quit saying "um" every other word, she will never get a TV job, as she is not as poised as she would like to think she is. She remains ever the narcissist, and glowed when Katie remarked how thin she was and how great she looked. Another "fluff" interview with no substance and just extended her 15 minutes of fame a little longer.

sglily said...

Definitely in agreement with the comments about the nursing job...she said she would have to give her entire paycheck to the babysitter-what? All her kids are in school (not that much care required by a babysitter!) And her comment about working 12-hr. shifts everyday? The lady who lives next to my sister is a single mom AND nurse, with 4 kids (the oldest is 12, a 10 yr. old, and twin girls who are 7.) My sister (a stay-at-home mom) helps her out (and is compensated by insistence of her neighbor) by watching the kids, & they have their breakfast, in the morning from 6:30 til 7:45-when they get on the bus (since she leaves at 6:30 for her 12-hr. shift that starts at 7.) After the kids get home, they go to my sister's and do their homework, etc. til Mom gets home at 7:30, and that's when they go back home and their family eats dinner together. This is only 3 days a week! The other 4 days this Mom is home for her kids, making meals to freeze so my sister can throw them in the oven and they'll be ready right when Mom comes home. They live in a nice, but modest, home. They have one vehicle, and granted, she receives child support payments from their Dad, but just a standard, everyday-person amount. No she doesn't have EIGHT kids, BUT, it CAN be done. Kate just finds excuse after excuse so she can keep her mcmansion, weekly manis & tans, by all means the shoes (can't give up the shoes!) and just celebrity in general. Cry us a river Kate.

K Gosselin was obviously very uncomfortable during the Couric interview. The red blotches creeping up her neck revealed just how nervous she was. Maybe the toughest questions weren't asked but investigating Kate for child abuse wasn't the theme of the show. At least Kate squirmed. I had to laugh at the closing of the show when all of the guests were lined up on stage. Did I see the wheels in Kate's brain sprinning as she looked at all of those little dancer girls and began plotting how to get her girls in reality tv dancing competition? I do believe this was the first interview Kate has done where she was not allowed to control the questions.

After reading about her telling other nurses that she wanted to land a doctor husband but it didn't work out, this story becomes even more interesting. She bought a doctor's house and then bitched about how dirty it was. Boy - did she show those doctors!

Debbie H said...

Well, she can't use that babysitter expense thing too much longer...In about 3 years they will be really be old enough to stay by themselves with very minimal supervision(ala Cara and Maddy)...My mother worked and when was about 12, I stayed by myself when she was away during the day in the summer when school was out and was perfectly comfortable doing so...actually enjoyed it!She is just going to have to FACE the music soon that unless she has enough money saved up to not have to work to keep up her lifestyle, she is going to have to get A REAL JOB...I know that's beneath her now, but tsk tsk...TV ain't going to ever happen again for her and she just as well better get used to the idea now...She's lucky it lasted as long as it did...

Question.....how did she get to New York.....was Steve there with her....I dont think she is capable of driving to the big city

Elise said...

Dear God...

What has Kate Gosselin done to her face?

Her teeth are too big for her mouth; her mouth too big for her face; her nose; her hair; even her voice!

I guess when you're that ugly on the inside, eventually it seeps out and takes over the outside.

Hot. Mess. So. Irrelevant.

Elspeth said...

I think I'd have barely recognized her if I hadn't known she was going to be on. Her hair is so distracting. I know it's superficial but that crooked dark part and the scraggly dark color down the sides looks greasy.

More Kate lies. She says she'd never let production tell her what to do, yet we know that production made her play games with the kids and production made arrangements for all those field trips.

Debbie H said...

Heffner road..OF COURSE Steve was with her...LOL..I saw a picture of her leaving the show and there was "Old Silver Faithful" opening the limo door for her...She can't or won't do anything without Steve..No way is he just unpaid "bodyguard"...And if he was JUST bodyguard, she would treat him like she does everybody else that works for her and HE would have left when he got the chance...NOPE..He is much more..Wish there were some way to check and see if they list themselves as single or married now(he and his wife)...Robert Hoffman...Do YOU know the answer to this???

jennine s. said...

As a nurse, Kate could work the weekend option or three 12 hour shifts a week while Jon babysits. Million of nurses who are single mothers have done that through the years and made a decent salary. If Kate has invested the millions that she made off TLC she can use the interest from that to supplement her salary. No problem.

Jennine S. said...

I enjoyed the Couric show, but thought the questions were very soft.

cali-girl said...

Didn't production make them hold a pretend Christmas early at least one year?

sglily said...

Kate looks very worn for her age-she has lots of wrinkles (probably a combination of sun damage, not moisturizing, and very heavy makeup), her teeth really do look too big for her face, almost like horse teeth (looks like she went overboard on whitening and caps), and her hair looked gross, like she put some sort of heavy pomade in it to try and hold a wavy look (didn't work).

I think Katie should have asked Kate if she thought about whether her kids might be embarrassed if she did a dating show. With Cara & Mady being 12, I would definitely think there would be an embarrassment factor. I guess not, since she said her kids WANT her to date, and they miss having a male figure around. Hmmm...what about their actual father?, as opposed to some random guy she hopes to "have fun with" (since she made sure to remind the audience that she does in fact have a fun side.)

The interview was lame-who cares about her dating life, "job" with Coupon Cabin, or her 5k runs...Besides, isn't everything about the kids? For the kids? Such a phony.

linda said...

Let's let Kate ride into the sunset. She has many options - wants someone to hand her a multi-buck job. She could become a school district nurse working the same hours and days the kids are in class. But - with her baggage, who is going to hire her??
Most girls are baby=sitting at age 12 or so. She knows everything, so let her figure it out.

Michelle said...

Oh let her block this one...the kids will talk soon enough. There's only a few more years until the twins turn 18. She can't put a gag on everyone!

cali-girl said...

Saw this quote from the Katie interview on yahoo re dating show:

"But I think it would be fun and allow me to meet people and have fun. It will show my fun side. I think it would be really fun,” Gosselin said.

Could someone get a thesaurus and look up a synonym for FUN, please?

Robert explained in his book that he has no concrete evidence that Kate and Steve are a couple or that he and his wife are together...he only makes observations about what he saw.

"Didn't production make them hold a pretend Christmas early at least one year?"

################

Yes they did and the children weren't told it wasn't really Christmas until after. Many of the "cute" things the kids did were "set up" for sure. In the fake Christmas episode the kids are kept at the top of the stairs anxiously waiting until Kate tells them they can come down. Joel and Collin are in front and as they start coming down Joel tries to take Collin's hand but Collin jerks it away. Then, a few steps later he tries again but Collin again jerks it away and then they were at the bottom and running. It was so obvious they were told to hold hands on the way down.

After I saw this I started to pay closer attention to all the sweet things they did with each other and suddenly it was so obvious it was set up.

Another time they are riding on a kiddie train and back on the couch Kate mentions the adorable thing that happened where Alexis suddenly put her arm around Collin... then they cut to that scene and omg, it is so obviously a set up and Alexis has a look on her face that said "like this?" and Collin looked so mad, if looks could kill. The times they used to kiss each other good bye in the early episodes... I'm betting they were offered candy if they did these things.

Linda suggested that Kate could become a school district nurse.....
Why would any school or the parents of students want her to be in that position? She couldn't stand her own children when they were not feeling well, Other than giving birth and using the kids as "money makers", she has no interest in kids at all. I don't see her in any position that involves nursing ability. Her "stint" in the nursing profession was just a stepping stone to snag a doctor or someone who had money.

linda said...

You are right Mr DeMille, IMHO, Kate is unemployable. Maybe she could pitch food at the store on Sat! It's quite obvious she would not take directions from anyone w/o an argument. Maybe twist a few arms in real estate. She needs to cope with living off her interest.
Any of us could relate on how to stretch the buck.

Shoka's Understudy said...

Linda, love the idea of kate standing in the grocery store with food samples and asking the customers that pass by, um huh um Would you like to try our Totally Organic Farm Fresh Talapia Fish Cakes, with Totally Organic's Tartar w/creme fresh Tartar sauce? uhm hum uh

Then the Deli manager comes up to her and asks her if she brought yogurt for her lunch today. She says yes. Then she gets chewed out for putting it in the refrigerator that is for the food they sell and is firmly told not to do it again, and to put her lunch/food in the employee refrigerator from now on.

kate says under her breath when the deli manager is gone: You mean I have to store my lunch/food with the common folk?
I don't notice other peoples lunches.

Ok, let's go Steve, I'm outta here!

Would pay to see that!

I'm Ready, Mr. Demille said...

Ummm..
Kate as a "food sample " lady?
If she has her wooden spoon with her, that could be dangerous to the customers who accept the sample but not in the way that Kate wants them to handle it. Could be a big liability for the store.

jennine s said...

how much will kate be paid to be on the Andy Cohen show?

Mary said...

First of all who would hire Kate as a nurse. Would you want her taking care of you or a loved one.. I sure she would smack and yell at you if you threw up. Then she would hand you the waste bucket

Judy said...

She said she has about 15 hours of help a week. That might equal about three hours a day after school through dinner time all week long. The younger ones are probably still in bed by 8 or so. Jon has them at least sometimes...and why does she keep saying she has to support these kids herself? Jon is supporting them as well.

Why doesn't anybody call her out on the nursing thing? Lots of single mothers are nurses and do fine. She could manage it if she needed to.

llwl said...

How long has she been out of nursing?

At this point without additional education and a refresher course, she is no longer employable as a RN.
Maintaining a license does not = maintaining skills and knowledge.

Without additional schooling, her days as a nurse are done.

NotaKateFan said...

The Hoffman book talks about Kate's nursing "career." She only became a nurse in order to meet rich doctors. When that didn't work out, she went with Jon who is the son of a dentist. Doctor, dentist - close enough, right?

Anyway, former coworkers of Kate said that she was a horrible nurse, was mean and nasty to coworkers and not willing to work hard. I'm not sure that she'll get many good references from her former bosses and coworkers. Most hospitals, nursing homes, doctor's offices, etc. that need nurses aren't going to want Kate's grouchy attitude and lack of work ethic in their offices anway. I don't think nursing is in her future at all.

Judy said...

Nursing doesn't give her enough attention...

Jennine S said...

If she hasn't worked as a nurse in 3 plus years, she will need to take a 6 month "refresher course"

Debbie H said...

Since she only became a nurse to marry a "rich" doctor, then that explains her reluctance to return to the profession...She probably can't find a doctor "rich" enough to satisfy her NOW...Her standards have risen and she probably has her sights set much higher now...Probably she thinks she can land an A List movie star/TV Personality in her mind these days...Still waiting for reality to sink in over there on Heffner Rd...

Please, for the love of the sick and injured everywhere, don't let Kate go back to nursing!

There's been a lot of talk about what Kate is or isn't qualified to do and, despite what her degree/certificate may say, this woman is in no way a good nurse. It's a job that takes compassion, nerves, organization, and a lot of hard work: all things that Kate can't manage. She'd be bad enough in a GP's office, but the thought of her in a hospital setting makes me shudder.

Can you really picture her bathing and dressing patients, being kind when they vomit on her, keeping careful notes on their medications, or even giving a damn whether they're in pain? An episode long ago showed her leaving her sick son lying on a cold floor: just think how she'd treat a stranger.
