Is It All Over But the Crying? Has the "Fat Lady" Sung?

Kate Replaced

Kate Gosselin's Kate Plus 8 Alaska special received only a third of the amount of views as did her season premier earlier this year. That is what we call last call for Kate Gosselin. TLC was hoping that the special would boost ratings and let them know if they could continue with Gosselin utilizing big specials as opposed to her weekly show. With last weeks ratings any hope for that scenario has fallen by the wayside. There really is no hope for Kate moving forward. Her reality TV career is all but over and there really isn't anything she can do about it.

Thank you, Hippie Chick.

What wonderful words.

Such a shame, though, that the kids are suffering
and will continue to suffer because of her egotistical pursuit of fame and fortune.

How truly sad for those 8 kids.

Yep, stick a fork in her, she's done.

She got too big for her britches and now she's going down.

I feel sorry for those kids but glad they won't be filmed any longer.

I know that eventually, TLC will drop Kate and anything related to Kate from its network; it's just a matter of time. Is that time now? I sure hope so, but like Brummygirl, I'm waiting for official word from TLC before I breath a sigh of relief.

However, even after the last camera crew walks out the door, those children will still suffer from the toxic effects of living with a cruel, narcisstic hurtful mother.

I hope that Kate would grow tired of dealing with the children and turn them over to Jon, but I bet she cannot give up control and will continue to make their lives miserable for years to come. Poor kids - they had the misfortune to be born to this woman and many years until they can escape.

So, part of TLC's Kate handling strategy will be to string her along a bit longer, with vague promises of future "specials" or even vaguer ones about her own series.

It might make their lives easier in dealing with their homegrown diva, but what about the kids? Until Kate realizes the finality of the situation, she'll hold onto that ridiculous mansion and acreage, and keep spending money on her nails, hair, tan, and wardrobe (justified by her grandiose sense of being a celebrity).

Though will a narcissist like Kate ever admit that she has to adapt to life's circumstances, and not the other way around?

For the children's sake, I hope she finds some major career advance (note I am not specifying what career!) so she can be happy in her self-centered way and the red plastic spoon will stay in the drawer.

Some narcissists lead charmed lives, and float from one mishap to another opportunity with great facility. But I do think TLC is done with Kate.

she is evil said...

Gotta agree, Hippie. The expulsion was the final nail in the coffin for the series. No amount of spin will make people believe the happy picture TLC and Kate tried to paint for so long (but interestingly, did not demonstrate on the show). Even if Kate pulls all the kids out of school to homeschool them, the show is dead. No one will buy that she's teaching them anything but fear and bad behavior by example. She had the chance to have a children's clothing line at walmart, could've been rich beyond her dreams like Jackyn Smyth with Kmart or Cherul Tiegs with Sears. She could've been a successful author, even though she is damn near illiterate. She and the kids could've been spokespeople for food, household products, clothing. BUT it all hinged on the family being intact, or at least happily divorced. It hinged on people liking them and believing them. Kate f--ked that all up herself with her greed and stupidity. If she had worked
with Jon to make the divorce amicable and agreed to equal joint custody, they might even still be okay. There are plenty of people out there who could relate. But no one wants to watch a cruel, lying bitch mistreat her kids and ex. No one is happy the kids have had their father and happiness taken from them. No one believes she does everything for her kids, and more importantly, no one
WANTS her to do it all herself, even if she did it well. Shutting out Jon was a stupid, selfish, and ultimately, self- defeating move that hurt her kids and killed her precious brand. The karma train has pulled into the station; the conductor was told to look for a scowling woman with huge boobs dressed like a hooker.

What ever happened to Kate and the church? I mean, this is a woman who, a few years ago, spoke at churches about the challenges of raising two sets of multiples while remaining "faithful." They wore religious T shirts on the couch and quoted the bible on their website. What ever happened to that? Was it fake all along or did Jesus just "not know how to help her"?

fidosmommy said...

Steph, I think those Isaiah T-shirts may have been free

LOL! Ouch! Burrrrrrrn!

Seriously though, from her point of view, possibly so. I have a bad feeling that Kate is the sort of person who believes that if her prayers are not given the answer she wants, the way she wants, and in the time frame she wants them answered, that her prayers weren’t answered at all.

It's a sad, egotistical mentality, and certainly not a good lesson to teach the kids. I hope the kids avoided learning this one.

As much as I would like to believe that Kate's done, I tend to think she still has a few cards left up her sleeve.

Kate is reality-TV's equivalent to a zombie. Unless something happens to sever the brain from the body, the zombie's just going to keep on coming and coming and coming.

As long as Kate has custody of the kids and those dozen some-odd bank accounts, she'll still have something to parlay into media contracts. It's not out of the realm of possibility for her to hustle up some sponsorship for her very own YouTube channel (though I'd feel sorry for anybody who took its content seriously).

I agree re the endless photocopying. Maybe she's preparing for the hearing at the end of the month? A fax/copier would be a lot cheaper and less time-consuming in the long run. You can buy them for under $50, But of course, then Khate wouldn't be able to give the paps their photo ops and show of her skanky wardrobe.

txmom, I fear for the kids, too, if Khate is out of the public eye. If she can attack Mady with impunity when there are a host of witnesses, what will she think she can get away with behind closed doors? None of those kids are big enough to defend themselves, even if they all teamed up. And the way Khate has gone about trying to create dissension and rivalry among them, I don't know if they would team up to defend one of their number.

Yes they do. That is why The Real Housewives shows are such a successful franchise. They are filled with women just like Kate. Most of the reality shows out there (and I use the term VERY loosely) have at least one person like Kate and that's the person who usually receives the most attention.

I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree - the evidence tends to suggest that people do want to watch women and men just like Kate Gosselin. These people bring in the audience that appeals to advertisers and that's why these shows are still on. Fortunately, the rubber necking goes away and the fickle public move on to the next "reality star" du jour.

Unfortunately, people like Kate are left shell shocked, wondering what happened to all their fame, all their "yes" people, all their money. Many have a hard time readjusting to their mundane and mediocre lives (and mediocre isn't a bad word - it just means ordinary and I'll take my mediocre life any day of the week over Kate's).

The true tragedy in this whole tale however is that Kate and Jon's children who have no real way of putting this all in perspective got dragged along for the reality ride and are and will continue to suffer the consequences.

My mother always played us,her four children, against each other and still does even though we are adults. I can say in my own eperience, we nearly ALWAYS stepped in and tried to help whichever child was the target of her wrath. Not that it helps, but I think the children have already learned how to circle their wagons and try their best to protect each other. They are, after all, the only allies they seem to have.

It breaks my heart that 6- and 10-year-old children have only each other to defend themselves against an abusive mother.

Yes, Jon has turned over a new leaf but he ran out on those kids when he KNEW what their mother was like. I confess I have a hard time giving him props now. Forgive me for that.

Also, from personal experience, I am guessing that the Gosselin children will grow up and turn to each other and say "Why didn't anybody help us?"

If two of my kids are having behavorial issues bad enough to get kicked out of kindergarten,if I had an inkling of an idea my gravy train of a show was about to stop, if that my children's custody was going to be an issue in two weeks, I don't think I would get made up to look like a tramp in that getup and high heels and go out in public. (She's so stupid, it would have looked better for her to have done it on a schoolday, instead of a sunday when we know all the kiddos are at home--well, I guess they could have been with their dad I guess). She is further showing her true colors concerning her faith, by doing it on a Sunday. She has so burned that bridge, no church would ever pay for her to speak!
This woman is so about herself, it is unreal.
She has spent a fortune on herself the past few years..(seems like last year, she wanted to whip some christmas cookies, so had to go out and buy an expensive kitchenaid mixer)...if you had to make a lot of copies, why not go and buy a cheap copy machine? it's a lot cheaper than that mixer! (and i bet that mixer hasn't been touched since last yr, if she used it at all).

Hippie-chick: could not agree with you more. Also, besides the show tanking, I truely believe the People mag cover, did her in as well. Going on Regis & Kelly, bashing Jon there, then running off to Mexico W/purse boy, doing photo shoot, right around the time the kids got expelled, GOOD MOTHER THERE! The People cover was probably their worsed cover and sales they ever had. Then the K8 shows were the worsed ones they ever did, plus the court, the nannies leaving and talking, the expelling and now I want privacy. But don't forget: TLC has one more episode up their sleeve. As for Palins show, I think Palin is gonna distant herself from Kate.

Another way in which Kate shot herself in the foot; she made it clear, from day one, that SHE, and only SHE, was in charge--and Can(not)-do Kate has emphasized that message as time progressed. Jon was a subordinate at best, and more often treated like an indentured servant. The problem with being the only person in charge is that when poop hits the fan, it hits the person in charge first and heaviest.

She isn't being blamed because of some misogynistic conspiracy to keep women in the nursery.

And that's why I'm grateful for this blog. Once old enough, reviewing these pages might be the only comfort afforded them.

Perfect strangers were loudly declaring their complete disgust that this whole charade was allowed to continue.

People they didn't know took time away from work and their own families to attended hearings about child labour laws in support of these kids.

It might not be much consolation, and it certainly won't give them back the innocence of a private childhood, but it could just be that our expressions of outrage and injustice are the one thing that offers them some small solace.

Not everyone turned a blind eye, not everyone remained silent and not everyone could be paid off.

My heart goes out to those kids who deserv so much better than to be exploited to line the pockets of tv execs, unscrupulous lawyers and even their own parents.

Yes, I saw the same thing. In their intro for hot topics the kids getting expelled was one of the topics and they showed an outdated photo of Kate. I was waiting for that segment, but it did not happen. It must have been when Whoopie started to say "In touch magazine is reporting.... about mugs????" Then she started to talk about their new winter mugs. I don't think it was Bill or Barbara squashing the topic because they had it in their introduction, so it was decided before the show that the kids getting expelled was going to be in their hot topics. I think somebody from either Kate's or TLC's camp called, last minute apparently, and probably threated to sue or something. Whatever they said, the View got scared and nixed the topic at the very moment they were going to speak about it.

I dont think Kate EVER had a TV 'career' but merely 'won the lottery' when they, J & K, being parents of two sets of multiples were 'awarded' a reality tv show and her side show gigs in the entertainment industry were merely a result of riding the coat tail of her 'reality tv' persona. However, I dont think we have seen the last of the talentless Ms. Gosselin, as she will desperately attempt to re invent herself many times over to secure her place on the cover of People magazine.

The strong-arms at TLC or at the View themselves put the brakes on the whole thing. It couldn't be that the girls on the view finally grew a conscience. I have wondered if TLC was holding on to Kate because they know she would drown in debt without them or the show. But since they actually do let go of low rating shows in a flash, I guess Kate is no better to them than any other show costing them money that is not a good return anymore. With Kate's paycheck, I wonder if the show is very profitable for them or not. (nowadays)
I have also wondered where shows like One big happy family' had gone. I thought that show was a decent show for kids. The family seemed like very nice people. And I will truly miss Little people. I know there are some issues there but I have not seen anything harmful for children to view.
Kate has had the opportunity to meet some big contacts in showbiz. People know who she is, know her story. (sob story) If she had not acted like a total nightmare during some of these encounters, she maybe could have had a good chance of doing something on her own.
I am going to watch Sarah Palin! Add all I can to her ratings. TLC will go where the money is. This may distract them from kate, therefore, breaking ties. Dropping that baggage!

Also, if she was photocopying a bunch of financial documents, wasn't she the least bit concerned about that pesky chip in the modern copier that is storing all that data she is scanning in? I hope the folks at that FedEx store are honorable, but I'd never copy sensitive documents on so public a machine.

TLC doesn't care what happens once the show is no longer profitable. They are a corporation with a bottom line to watch. They have to make money for their shareholders. Its not their problem that Kate has not managed the money (maybe she has, I don't know) and she can no longer support the her lifestyle or feed the children. That's Kate's problem. Not profitable. That outfit! Let's alllllll say it together boys and girls..... LEGGINGS are not PANTS.
============================

That outfit was ridiculous. Kate's "Klassiness" always comes shining through.

When I was looking at the photos, it just struck me anew that Kate has a weirdly shaped body. She is definitely very slender, but yet she's not fit-looking.

She just looked funky and outlandish in that outfit, complete with those spiked heels on a Sunday afternoon for Kinko's. Who in their right mind goes dressed like that to copy documents for two hours? Who in their right mind pays good money for those fugly shoes and sad-looking grey top? And the pimp hat as a topper? Weave is looking rough too.

I don't think it's necessarily the "outfit" itself (it is a very common look) -- where I have the problem is the "where/when" of the outfit.

Rural PA, on a Sunday afternoon to make copies at Kinko ????

I hope we do not see a ratings spike on the next episode.I can't help wondering if this expulsion story was leaked in order to get the sinking ratings up. Who will turn in to see if the expulsion is mentioned? Who will watch to see if the two kids are acting out? To see if there are any signs of anger? Who will watch to see if Kate is indeed in the van asleep while a man (Steve, not their dad) takes them trick-or-treating? Not me, that is for sure.

I have noticed that the show now includes a lot of Steve as if he is now another character on the show. I think that is in response to all the comments about Steve and Kate being involved. TLC knows that people will tune in so they can look for "signs" to confirm the rumors. Again, I will not tune in.

OK my third posting for one day, must be bored. But I watched the whole View (I was sewing Christmas aprons) and after they said there would be an item on the Gosselin kids, it never materialized. Hmmmm.

I don't intend to watch. I would, however, like to see the View follow up on their "teasers". Really thought I would hear a legit story today about the kids. Maybe Bill is lining up Kate and her fake tears to come on the show and bash Jon about being a bad dad. Gotta give her time to get that weave and her face in order before her camera appearance.

Plus, didn't Khate say they don't celebrate it (Halloween) for religious reasons?

------------------

Yeah, I remember her saying that and thinking how little sense it made, especially since the very first episode of J&K+8 was about Halloween. I think she just wanted an excuse not to buy costumes, candy for trick-or-treaters, etc, since that kind of thing takes both time and money. Speaking of, could you imagine trick-or-treating at that witch's house? Seriously scary! I'll bet parents didn't allow kids to ring her doorbell.

Thank you, Hippie Chick.
TLC spent a huge amount of money on the Alaskan special and it tanked. The fiasco proved what we've all known; Kate is done. Now that TLC is confirming the expulsion story, it is highly doubtful that ANY television or film producing company would desire involvement with a Gosselin.
A responsible business would not take part in further interruption of 8 innocent young lives.
Today my heart hurts in realizing the enormous price a mother paid for needless hair extensions.

Kate is a fool. If she speaks out on any show, or to any magazine now- she will be even more of a liar.

She already went on record, by saying the kids did not have behavioral problems, and were fine to film. No child with rage issues should be put on Reality TV, period.

Hopefully TLC will finally listen to the public, and won't go on with this sad show.

Minka's Tail said...

! It's not so much that Kate dresses sort of tarty and tastelessly. It's that her outfits are bizarre to the point that they look like Halloween costumes.

The top, pants and shoes would look OK on a very young woman, to go clubbing. But that hat! That wig! She looks like Slade!

I needed a good laugh.

Aunt Chris said...

I'll bet the show doesn't get "canceled" by TLC, Kate will decide that with all that's happening the children need their privacy and SHE'S the one stopping the show. At least that's how it will be spun. Thus TLC will be preserving Kate's dignity, which of course she smashes to smitherins every time she steps out in those rediculous outfits or opens her big idiotic-ish mouth.

Yes, but just OK. Not great, and maybe acceptable in NYC or LA, but certainly not at Rumorz in Reading, PA!

I'm not going to happy dance just yet but it will be sweet when it finally happens. She could survive a little while longer by taking a drastic pay cut, cutting the overhead. TLC has a lot of programming hours to fill and if they think they can make a buck off these kids they will. If she took a huge cut in pay, I could see one more short season or a couple of specials, then she is toast. I hope I'm wrong and the fat lady sings in 2010.
According to TWOP, the Hayes family announced the cancellation on their facebook.

Frankly, I think that TLC had hyped the Alaska trip so much , and Kate threw such a fit and it was and is to costly, in every way, to deal with her, that TLC has thrown her under the bus. It was the last straw. They knew that they were coming apart at the seams more than anyone. The whole family is now a huge liability..What better way to get out of a contract?

Rebecca said...

TLC has no contract issues. They can simply cancel the show.

I wonder if the View is just holding off on this story (and forgetting to take it out of the intro or what??) because Bill/Barbara think they might get Kate on the show at least one more time to spin her lies. I could see that since they are very sympathetic toward her. They have to know that once Joy and Whoopi get a hold of the story (as Joy has already proven), they will shred her and then she could not show up and save face afterward.

"It's the Mother, Stupid"..... said...

Remember that old politcal mantra "it's the economy, stupid"???

Well, this calls for a new mantra: "It's the mother, stupid!"

I am amazed that so many media wonks are saying that "filming" hurt the kids.....

True. It did.

But the biggest, most significant thing that has hurt those kids is Kart's horrid, abusive, non-loving control over them. I can't even bring myself to say mothering of them.

The kids would have been damaged even if Kart hadn't had an unslakable thirst for fame and power.

Kart would be abusing those kids, emotionally and physically because that's the kind of person she is. And she has no maternal-child bond with them.

She simply does not see them as 'children' in need of love, support, guidance and nurture.

There is so little talk of her parents and her youth. But there has to be something in her growing up years that was lacking in order for her to turn out this way.

So, for all the talk show hosts out there: yes, the filming robbed the kids of a normal childhood, but it also showed America what Kart would have been like behind closed doors.

I believe fear for the kids' safety and mental is warranted. I think years from now folks will learn the truth about how much damage the kids suffered as a result of her nasty, controlling personality.

The best and most pressing thing now is to get the kids off TV.

After that, the curtain of isolation needs to be penetrated especially by those in position to advocate for the kids against Kart.

Holding good thoughts that the kids might yet be able to turn into caring, compassionate, productive members of our society.

Holding the thought that it's not already too late.

As mothers we all knew something with the kids were going to happen years ago. The way Kate treated Jon, the way she treated the kids. Her need for attention and her growing need to become a "star". I personally didn't think it would start happening till their pre teens years when kids are mean (no matter what nice, households they come from). I have signed every petition, wrote to sponsors over the years to try to protect 8 children that have nothing to do with my life, for one reason, as a mother i was appalled that this was allowed...Why blame TLC, there a business, it is up to parents to protect their children. I do blame the state of PA, when this mess was finally before them, they had a chance to make a real impact on child labor laws, and they failed...
The real problems will begin when the money starts drying up. Kate will not be able to afford that "all mine" house anymore..She will resent, (and probably does now) that she didn't become the star she though she was..
Why Jon has not hired a child advocate lawyer by now is beyond me. I applauded the brother and sister in law for coming out and trying to help these children, but they needed to get down and dirty dealing with Kate and the power of TLC, and they didn't. It should of been documented how often she is with these children, video's of how she treats them, feeds them. The emotional abuse . Parents lose primary custody of children to the other parents for bad mouthing the other parent in front of child durning a divorce, while this women went on national tv and did this...
The worst is yet to come for these children, for one reason, they will always have Kate as a mother.

To:Katedirtyflintstonefeet, You better believe that it was that nanny or maybe nannies. And yeah, I'm sure the sheeple will blame Jon for this. I've already read a few comments, and there was one on the US weekly , who must be just like Kate, she does the same thing, gives her kids the same , uneaten sandwhich the next day. GROSS!!!!! Geez, I don't even do that to any of my pets. MY dogs ARE treated like little diamonds(I, don't dress them up, don't want to get bit) compare to the Gosselin 8. I would not even give my dogs rotten/expired food. There is really something mentally wrong with Kate. Being frugal is one thing, edgeing on making someone sick to "learn a lesson" is abuse. Instead of finding out what her kids like to eat and how much is too much at lunch, she has set a rule, that, this is what you will eat, full or not, like it or not. Remember the eggs, one of the twins does not like eggs, Kate made her eat it. This does prove one thing Kate does not really know her kids. I know my dogs and can tell you what they won't eat, my birds are the same way. I don't waste food on them if they won't eat it. That's goofy. JMO

Add to that outfit some grand old jaw-popping, mouth smacking chewing gum. Oh, that's right. Kate never leaves home without a mouth full of chewing gum which she smacks at regular intervals. She is one classy dame!

Wasn't there a show where Jon and Kate were talking about how they told the kids that Santa Claus was bad or something similar? Does anyone remember watching it? I think they were trying to explain why they did not want to celebrate anything other thank the birth of the Lord and wanted to keep the material aspects out of the holiday. But I remember I thought it was so mean spirited and negative. Anybody?

Lisa said...

The picture of Mady in the family photo from Alaska just broke my heart....broke my heart! To me it speaks volumes about the devastating effect Kate's abuse has had on her.
I fear someday when the children are able to speak on their own they'll say, 'You all watched this, why didn't someone help us?"
And, how iron-clad are those confidentiality agreements the "help" supposedly signs? Wouldn't witnessing child abuse and reporting it supersede the agreement?
What's the worst that could happen if they speak the truth?

What was mean-spirited was Jon bragging that the twins told their classmates there was no such thing as Santa Claus. He acted so proud of them.

I have a question - because time flies I can't remember when, but it wasn't long ago, that she parked quite close to the school bus and was yanking kids out real quick. Some looked like nearly airborn. Question - were they coming off the bus into the big van, or out of the big van on to the bus? Could have been a warning from the school then? She was mad as hell, I know that.

Oh why must Kate Gosselin spend two entire hours, out in chilly PA making copies in spike heels and tights... without an actual skirt?

Is it that Kinko's does not know HOW to help her? And by helping her, I mean sending over a state of the art, high-end, FREEBIE copier. With said copier, comes the standard "Not-A-Copier-Helper" (for running off daily home school lessons), a lifetime maintenance-free contract and free ink cartridges and paper.

Shucks... I sure wish the Dress Barn knew HOW to help Kate.

Wow, I just saw 10 bits about her and how, when with Jon, she was a bitch, no kidding. What is with her? He seemed like he just "gave in to her" and the twins seemed more about being nice to the tups. Some sick crap at that house now if the stale sandwich is true. Nothing like hunger and from a witch who made that money on those kids and now she won't spend their money feeding them. Take the kids away from the bitch or assign someone to teach her how to treat children. Sad stuff.

Could have been sometime around suspension time. (Suspension comes before expulsion.) It could be that she did that so nobody could count the number of children getting onto the bus. Don't know, but it's possible. And you're right, she was flinging them. Hard to watch.

However, for some reason that same video looked to me like one from a year ago - the woman helping Kate with the backpacks, the bald photographer hiding behind the big blue van - it just seemed to me like I'd seen it all before long before this fall. I thought there was a more recent one.

Then again, I don't remember things clearly all the time.....

I know we will never hear from the school, but I am wondering if that stale sandwich thing is true, wouldn't the teachers be required to call that in to Child Protective Services? I know I would. It might not be "abuse" but it is certainly "neglect". Not providing your child with healthy food. Looking at the entire situation as a teacher, I am surmising that the school was simply "fed up" with the Kart and the way she treats the kids, and deals with their issues. I hope that the teacher called CPS about the week old sandwiches if it is indeed true.

It actually is abuse. Emotional abuse, not neglect. Neglect would be NOT to send food to school. By sending stale food, or the same food over and over again is detrimental to the mental well-being of the child; therefore, it falls under emotional neglect, which must be reported to PCCYFS (we don't have a CPS here).
