Possible New Show for Kate

Details here for Kate's potential new show. Although we've been hearing about it for months, it now sounds like TLC is starting up the PR machine.

The show will also likely have an interactive component, with the professions and corresponding challenges being somewhat determined by the audience..."Does this mean that we can vote for Kate to do hard and dirty jobs and she will have to do them? (From Cheetah)

Just saw this on US Weekly... this show seems just about as interesting as watching paint dry. I'd have more fun watching Dora the Explorer with my kiddo!! http://www.usmagazine.com/moviestvmusic/news/scoop-new-details-on-kate-gosselins-upcoming-reality-show-2010131 (From Addi's mom)

Operating beneath the belief that the opposite of love is not hate, it is apathy, I will not be watching ANYTHING that has anything to do with Kate Gosselin.

I'm sure TLC is hoping to capitalize on K8's ability to absolutely polarize the viewing audience, so, are probably hoping lots of interest will be shown by people coming up with disgusting and demeaning jobs for K8 to perform. Sadly, we know that there is nothing too demeaning for K8ie Irene, so long as the attention and $ follow.

Count me out. Will not be watching anything Gosselin, most especially, the newest ploy, "Make Kate ......"

With or without the kids, Kate is toast, done. She just doesn't realize it yet and neither does TLC.

May it fail quickly and abysmally. I think TLC is wrong that Kate is such a big draw. Thankfully while the followers are very vocal and devoted, there aren't enough of them to make the show the kind of success that TLC is wanting.

I really hope that she does well on this show so that we don't see the children exploited anymore. But I doubt she will so it will just be a matter of time and then they will probably try and force Jon to let them shoot the children again. Or even worse make up terrible stories about him so that he loses custody to Kate and then they can put the kids back on TV. I hope that doesn't happen but it appears TLC will stop at nothing to ruin Jon and get his kids back on TV.

I went to the link about the new show and read a few comments. Once again, Kate fans are some of the most illiterate people. I'd guess the average age to be 14, most of the comments are full of text-speak (i.e., I C u haters r just jellus), and none of them have a passing familiarity with commas or periods.

I guess 14 year old drop-outs are their target audience.

The one good thing is that this show does not feature the children. At long last, Kate will have to work to earn her own living, and I hope she hates every minute of time she is forced to "interact" with other humans. Can I get a countdown until her first "playful" smack of someone??

I won't watch, but I'll watch the youtube clips so I can mock her ;)

I do hope TLC/Discovery spends scads of money producing this show, and then has dismal returns and vanishing advertisers.

I, for one, would relish watching Kate scrub toilets, serve food to mean people, dog-walk (and pick up after them), and try to assist in a pre-school class where she will clearly have no idea how to deal with children - although the later would be unfortunate for the children.

I'm sure the premise of the show is to capitalize on Kate's snarkiness and ability to whine and complain about EVERYTHING. The only way this would be interesting is if the last 5 or so minutes was spent interviewing the people she worked with and having them complain about what a bit-cha she was.

It'd be so much fun if they just made her host Dirty Jobs for A show. (keep her away from Mike Rowe, I'm sure she'd chase him & kate's a dirty job he doesn't need to experience) Sure I'd miss Mike Rowe for that show, but it'd do her a world of good to clean turd burners in Alaska. I mean come on, we all know kate would find her absolute true calling as a shark repellent tester. Finally her talent springs forth at long last! No great white is going to bite that, nothing on this planet is that hungry or curious (yeah, okay, Jon was, but he learnt, sharks learn too). It'd be like tossing arsenic in the water or an all engulfing Exxon oil spill.

Midnight Serenade said...

My question is this: why does TLC think that this will work, when the ratings dropped so drastically on the show featuring the children? If the kids can't draw in the viewers, why are they even considering a show with just Kate?
Oh, that's right -- because she is a celebrity in her own right. Is everyone at TLC smoking something?

Laine said...

While I will NOT be a viewer, I hope Kate does get a show. It is time for her to put up or shut up...either she is a 'star' or she is just living in her own fantasy world. As long as the kids are not being filmed, and they get to live as much of a normal life as they can with those parents, this should keep Kate busy for a while.

SafetyTrain said...

The show will plummet to the earth faster than dung coming out of an elephant. I think Kate has proven that she alone cannot carry a series.

Gimme Gimme said...

Isn't this about what we thought it would be? Sounds like they are capitalizing on the fact that Kate is the person everyone loves to hate. I will watch her work her butt off until she gets so annoying that I cannot stand it anymore. Did they say if the name would be Clean Slate Kate? As much as we have heard this, it has to be in there somewhere. This just might be her niche. I hope it works out so they kids can have some peace and happiness and realize they do not have to earn the living for once.

I'm kind of with you on this, Natalie and Abigail. Of course Kate's screeching and rudeness will be the draw for the show, I am hoping there is a greater purpose: that Kate Gosselin will come to appreciate what real people do in their real jobs, and realize that they earn every dime they get. These are not her chumps, they are people who do the best they can, try to keep a good attitude even in trying circumstances, and they do it for their families because they would do anything for their families - even hard, hot, unglamorous work. Then, when they've put in their hours there, they go home and spend quality time with the people there and work around the house, too. All for the family. For real.

Oh, but don't you know how much Kate is loving this. She can be the total center of attention while all eyes are on her in a show like they're describing. Let the shrieking begin. For some other audience member, though. It sure as hell won't be me.

Can she make any more of a fool of herself? What some people won't do for money...

Oh, but, of course. I forgot. It's all for the kids. Everything she does is for her kids. Uh-huh.

Here's a thought: WHY should we, by our viewing, help K8 make big bucks from TLC by doing real jobs the rest of us do for far less $?

I'll be dipped if I'll help her stay in her 'mine all mine' castle, tending to her store bought tatas, manicured hands and feet, and now extensions or is it a wig this week, while the rest of us make ends meet by doing the very jobs K8 gets paid to pretend to do?

I say send her to McDonalds for REAL (not on camera, not on TLC's payroll) and let her earn all she's worth there: minimum wage at best.

fidosmommy, I always read all your comments because they're good and fair but don't be disappointed with dashed dreams here. I fear Kate will be far too immersed in herself to learn much of anything from such an experience except to make sure she earns much, much more money so that she never has to work like the real people ever again.

I want to see her work in a daycare or as a nanny for a week. Under strict supervision, of course. Heck, I'll volunteer to watch her.

Of course, she would not be allowed to carry her big wooden spoon, her fingernails would have to go, and no screaming, hissing, or reprimanding screeches would be allowed. She would be prohibited from touching the children unless she was giving them hugs, and she would have to bathe, dress, brush teeth and hair, feed actual MEALS to and PLAY with the children.

She'd last 2 hours, MAX.

then a panel of childcare workers and child development experts could sit down with her and shred her to bits.

I'd watch that.

I guess I see this a bit differently. Obviously they will put her in jobs that will make
her uncomfortable and make her react to make audiences laugh at her or create a reaction from the audience so that TLC gets ratings. If she was just doing ordinary things, that would be too boring so they have to create situations that are sensational because, once again, it is "reality" Can you imagine the mockery, youtube videos etc. Can you imagine how all of this will look and feel through the eyes of the children.

There has to be other things to do with your life to support your children --first they exploited the children and now they get to humuliate them by using their mother's quest for fame as a national freak show.

Interesting -- This supposed NEW show for Kate has already been done. It was called NEW YORK GOES TO WORK on
VH1. The public would vote on which job for Tiffany (aka New York) to do and if she performed to standards she would get money for completing the task.

The main draw to Jon & Kate plus 8 were THE KIDS. Without the kids, any show with Kate I believe will sink FAST.

I'm waiting for the day this woman will GO AWAY!!

If someone takes the time to make a comment, positive or negative, it means they are interested. Kate's show will have good ratings in the beginning. Then it's up to TLC to produce a quality show to keep them. Remember, the standards for a hit on cable are much lower than the networks. If Kate pulls 2 million or more viewers she will still be considered a huge star in the TLC universe.

School Crossing Warden:....drags kids by the arms across the road.

Party Clown:...she has the hair and make-up for this one. "Come and git yer popcorn kiddies!"

Sewer cleaner and road sweeper!!

Prison for a day and night to see how Jon felt for ten years!

Playschool Assistant!!..."Any use of crayons or paints will be under strictish severance and no breathing loudly!"

A helper in the Reptile House....ooooh the screams would be wonderful!!!

Actually, as long as the kids are happy and not on film, she can climb Mount Everest for all I care. I will not be watching and soon T.L.C. and it's puppet will be just a sad memory!!!

And those 17 pages are why Kate Gosselin has a new show. This site and others like it are why Kate Gosselin has a new show (and I love this site by the way). People magazine and the people who buy it are why Kate Gosselin has a new show. To quote the US article:

"Execs are convinced Gosselin -- who just debuted new extensions -- can headline her own gig. "She's proven herself to be a celebrity in her own right," an executive at Discovery, which owns TLC, told TheWrap. "With the interest she generates, she can fit into any role on her own."

They don't care if that interest is positive or negative. I'm sure her show will tank but she's convinced that she's a celeb and I don't see her fading away anytime in the next year or two.

As long as the kids aren't filmed, she can run around in her underwear for all I care about her. Not that that won't impact the kids, but honestly they're already damaged. I pray they do get some counseling, but I honestly don't know if it will help.

So Kate is going to follow the lead of 'reality show' personality New York New York, who made her debut as a contestant on the reality dating show Flava of Love. New York New York went on to have her own 'reality show' which took her 'out of her element' and featured NY participating in various viewer suggested occupations. IMO, it is totally insulting for these tv networks to overly compensate and accomodate these no talent reality tv 'celebrities' to partake in occupations that they would otherwise have absolutely have no interest in or EVER consider as a career for themselves! In the case of Kate Gosselin, perhaps if she (or Jon for that matter) would have SERIOUSLY considered an occupation of slinging hash, cleaning porta johns, working a fast food drive thru etc...then maybe they wouldnt have had to go begging to the taxpayers and local church and community to provide for their family!!!

I personally don't believe TLC believes Kate can carry her own show. I think they'll let her start her own crappy show, only to let her fail quickly. This way they can finally get rid of her without Kate suing them. Plus, if the show fails, if won't be TLC's "fault", they can all blame it on her...Haha, stupid Kate, doesn't realize she's being duped...JMHO

That might be, silimom, but I think it's also possible that if we protest and express our opinion just maybe it stirs up enough conversation that makes producers think twice. It did with the Paula Deen promo...they decided Kate was too controversial.

I also think TLC continues to destroy a family, divorced or not. Throwing Jon under the bus, with Kate's blessing, is throwing eight children under the bus. How wrong is that! I'm aghast at what they are being allowed to do and it seems no one with clout or money is willing or cares enough to put an end to the destruction. I hate TLC for what they are doing. If I lived closer I would be picketing in front of their building. It might no make a difference, but I would feel better.

I know what job I'd love to see Khate do - wife, mother and homemaker. Oh wait, she's already proven that she couldn't handle those jobs. This show does sound like a rehash of "The Simple Life". Only thing there is that Paris and Nichole did their jobs for the entire season. Khate will last about as long as it takes to film a 1/2 hour show, and then only if her "body guard" can turf "undesirables" like the press. The show might get good ratings initially, with the Sheeple and people who tune in to see Khate make an ass of herself. Myself, I think clipping my cats' claws will prove much more entertaining.

Her anger and disgust with men surely was evident when she was putting on a yard sale on the church parking lot.

Well, if she is able to be a waitress and does a good job, what is interesting about that?

We have all seen efficient waitresses, so that isn't anything newsworthy.

But if she botched it and was rude, dropped things, broke things, would she want that filmed?

Unless she does thing poorly and makes people crazy, what is there to watch?

This will be interesting.

Of course It will probably be a take off of Dirty Jobs because that's all TLC knows how to do. Either rip off other networks ideas Cake Boss/ Ace of Cakes or recycle the same idea over and over (LPBW, Little Couple, Little Chocolatiers) Most of their Wedding shows they ripped off of We TV.

I'm sure they probably thought Khate screeching when she was getting her hair-don't rinsed in that video, that people were laughing hysterically. They couldn't be more wrong about that or about Khate being a "Star." They are going to be in for one rude awakening.

The only thing I would have laughed at is if they had rinsed her head in the toilet bowl instead of the bath tub. That I would pay to see.

The only job Kate is good at is scamming people for stuff. I figure the new show will be just as scripted as the old show. I'm offended that TLC has the nerve to to suggest that anything Kate does is remotely similar to 'work'. They appear to be dragging their feet on this. First it was in the spring, then suddenly, they are like not so fast..maybe in the summer. What they have in the can must not be that great.

I gotta job for her.

The "organizer" can go out and orgaNize homes for real single working moms to make their lives a bit easier. She can buy them groceries and help them pay their bills and budget their money. She can help them buy school clothes, Christmas and birthdays and special events.

Maybe she could show them how to make the "annual" soup (all 6 bags of it), baby sit for them when they have to go to the doctor, or get their car serviced. Things that she has no idea about as a single working mom and who knows it might help her in the end.

Unfotunately, I don't think the viewers ever bought into that organizational BS, we all know how to pack for Disney. Remember how she wore Beth down when they went to buy bins..they shut down the store, the last to leave. I don't know what kept Beth from saying get a move on...this is not rocket science...it's bins. I think she just wanted to stay away from the kids as long as possible hoping some of Beth's class might rub off on her.

A real organizer would know exactly what she wanted and would not waste that much time on it. Organization of time is also part of being an "organizer."

That is about all I can come up with..gonna be hard to make a show out of Kate week after week.

I don't get it.
Kate is not Paris Hilton. It was funny to see her on the Simple Life, because she was so spoiled that doing simple tasks that everyone does was hard for her.

Kate is from a lower-middle class background. Why would it be hysterical to see her working as a waitress in a diner? A lot of preacher's daughters from trailer parks work at jobs like that at some point. And supposedly, she has changed poopy diapers. What other job would gross her out?

Kate has developed this ridiculous persona, of being shallow and incompetent. She reminds me of the character of Miss Piggy (whom I love--but she's a PUPPET!). TLC is exploiting her as she gets more and more ridiculous, and nobody realizes the damage to her family (as she relishes in being snippy and sarcastic to her kids, all in the name of being a funny b****). Interestingly, the man she had "nothing in common with" has also allowed himself to become a living joke, at the expense of the kids. But at least he seems to be kind to them.

This is one of the most pathetic things ever.

Okay, the thing is, I started watch Jon and Kate plus 8, b/c as a SAHM I wanted to see how a mother of 8 handled it. I loved the kids and their antics. But about season 4 I realized that everything was staged and fake and stopped watching. I look for Kates new show to get high ratings for the first few episodes but after that she will get old and boring. We didn't watch their previous show b/c of her, we watched it for the kids. This is just my opinion.

Kate v. Tiffany said...

The whole point of NY goes to work was that Tiffany was a crass, short -tempered diva, who only half the time would complete the tasks to get the 10,00 dollar check that they had dangling in front of her nose, like a carrot for a horse. That is what made it funny. Even so, I am not sure if it was that big a hit for VH1.

In order for Kate to be successful in this type of show she would have to have tantrums and breakdowns, and diva behaviors and demands....Wouldn't that alienate her core audience and make her look like an even bigger hypocrite than the new sweet self she is trying to be? I just don't see this format working at all...

I'd like to see them send Kate to one of the chicken factories in NC, where most of the employees do not have English as their first language and who work their butts off at horrifying jobs for low pay. I was watching Today Show with Hoda & Kathy Lee and
Hoda brought up Ms. Khate getting a new reality show and Kathy just took a deep breath and sighed.(like who cares) She doesn't understand what kind of show with Kate would be interesting. Hoda brings up it's without her kids & Jon and again Kathy doesn't think she is interesting enough to have any kind of show. Thank you Kathy, finally someone in the media not lying to show their true feelings on how they really feel about this woman.(like the View ladies or feeling pressured from their executives to lie and say oh she will be great) Now we need to get the rest of the media folks to follow suit because you their are more than Kathy that feels the same way.
And find it so funny how when ROL posted something the rest of the media picks it up as the truth. ROL is NOT the Associated Press or NY TImes. It is so gross how none of these media outlets do any homework they just go to ROL and then post it on their site as fact. That is why this woman is winning. TLC or her PR team call ROL daily or when it comes to quiet on the Gosselin front and they throw out any garbage just to keep her in the news. Don't fall for it, remember where it comes from and don't click on their stories!!

I just read a quote from Dr. Drew Pinsky, talking about children in reality shows and I think this really hits the nail on the head:

“These shows can open the kids to a level of public scrutiny, of shame and of failure,” notes Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of VH-1’s “Celeb Rehab and co-author of "The Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism Is Seducing America." “You have to ask yourself if that is conducive to positive outcomes as they get older.”

Pinsky puts the responsibility on the parents and the producers. “Children can't give informed consent by definition, only the parents can do that -- and reality shows generally don't cast adults who have the highest level of mental health. They are severe narcissists who are obsessed with celebrity.”

"severe narcissists who are obsessed with celebrity" --> any names come to mind? That quote describes Katie Irene to a T.

This is EXACTLY the same thing VH1 tried with New York. The show was called something like, New York Goes To Work. I watched a couple minutes of an episode and it was awfully boring. TLC seems to have a format type of reality shows(and I use that word loosely).
What reality would be ratsnesthead?
As of now, the kids can't be on TV... so they can't use them.
She doesn't "work", so no reality on that.
Other than a show where she goes around begging for things for free, what elese does she do?
As for a show where she does "real jobs", yeah that is kind of lame to just copy cat something else already being done.
And ya know what, that Paris Hilton/Nicole Richie Show was only cute because those girls were 20-21 years old. It is not cute when it's a 35 year old mother of 8.
So good luck Loser Chanel trying to come up with something for your mad cow, other than instead of protituting her children, showing her prostituting herself to catch a man. You really should consider just putting that horse down and walking away.

Kate doesn't have a new show. If she did, it would be aired already. These different shows TLC and Kate are jabbering about is just a test to see how the public responds.

I mean, wouldn't TLC put Kate on the air right now while her 15mins are still there?

TLC and Kate are just doing a bunch of PR work at the moment. While, the lawyers and TLC are secretly working under the table to get Jon to release the kids.

That's what the lawsuit against Jon is all about as stated in FoxPhilly. "To get Jon to retract his objection over the kids being filmed".

This is why they're waiting til "spring" to announce or air Kate's new show. The same time Jon and TLC are going to fight in court.

Even if TLC does give Kate a show w/o the kids in it. It will be short lived.

There is NO show on TLC that involves 1 person. With the exception of BBQ pitmasters. But that show involves multiple pitmasters and some have their spouse with them.

Every other show involves family or friends or co-workers.

Kate by herself on TLC? Doing what? Looking in the mirror, talking and hugging herself for 30 minutes?

Maybe 5 mirrors to make it look like she has friends?

Knowing how fond TLC is of cross over programming, how about we hook up Cranky (at best) K8 with The King of Patriarchy (and keep 'em barefoot and pregnant), Jim Bob Duggar in some kind of Wife Swap format?

And, just for added chuckles, we also temporarily put Michelle D and Jon G together.

THEN, we send the Gosselins to live on the cult compound in Arkansas, while the Duggars go live in K8's (hers, all hers!) Pennsylvania mansion.

Whoever survives, gets a year of free in-facility psychotherapy, with an occasional wk-end pass.

It'd be right up TLC's alley: plenty of dysfunction for everyone and fun for the whole family.

You are incorrect. Jon is the one who withdrew his approval to continue filming of the children. Under the terms of the contract, both parents have to give their approval. Kate did not rescind hers; Jon did rescind his. I don't pretend to know his motivations, but of this there is no doubt -- he said he would no longer allow TLC to film the children.

The children are in school, but that is not the reason filming was stopped. (This is clearly demonstrated by the fact that Cara & Maddy began school several years ago and yet filming continued. This is also demonstrated by the fact that further episodes were planned, around the younger childrens' school schedule, until Jon put the kybosh on it.)

Not to be argumentative, but I think it's very important to be accurate. Filming of the children stopped because Jon invoked his parental & contractural right to put a halt to it. He may change his mind at some point, but I want to give him credit where credit is due.

The series showed NY going to various jobs that the viewers picked. Like she would go work in fast food, as a pig farmer, or doggie day care. She did the jobs poorly and was kind of entertaining. LOL!

You guys must be on Team Jon. It's obvious that birds of a feather flock together. And your blind support of Jon, he doormat of a husband, proves my point.

My show, produced by the lovely producers at TLC will be about my journey as a single mother of EI8HT. That's right, SINGLE MOTHER OF EIGHT.

Don't you get it? I have eight kids. You regulars don't have eight like myself. You can't even accomplish what I did all by myself. I am Kate Gosselin. Don't you get it?

You regulars need me. You will watch me just because I am controversial . I am interesting and I have this wonderful gift of the Gab.

My new cook book will be out soon. And even though I plagiarized the recipes from Jon's parent and a few websites, it's a wonderful cook book. It talks about making memories out of food.

Don't you get it? I have eight kids. What do you have? One? haha. I am laughing at that. Only one? I have eight kids.

So, continue to spit your hate on my accomplishments. No matter what you do, it's free publicity for me and my show.

God bless you all. :)

Yes, I am a Christian. Don't you get it? I am a single mother of eight and a very religious person. Yes, I am better than most of you, but don't let that stop you from supporting me.

I see some of you are laughing at my hair. And honestly, I am too. This mop on my head is just plain disgusting.

But since I am a contract "honorer", this mop will stay on my head. Unlike some other people, who shall remain nameless, that loves to "break" contracts instead of honoring them.

I could give a rats azz if the show was affecting my kids emotionally, and educationally, we signed a contract. And we must honor it. No matter whom it hurts.

Don't you get it? I am Kate Gosselin.

@theRealKate,

Thank you so much for checking in with us.

You are right, you are far, far superior to me. I only have two children.

Furthermore, I have committed a horrendously horrendous maternal sin. In December, I cancelled my haircut appointment. I also decided not to give myself the treat of a mani/pedicure. All so I would have more cash to buy my kids and husband presents and have a nice Christmas roast beef.

I realize that my priorities are all screwed up. If I come to your next book-signing, will you give me a few pointers? Oh, and I can't figure out how to use my camera--I'll bring that, too.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Now I don't feel so baaaaaaaaaaaaad.

Fed up and disgusted said...

Let me get this straight now. If Kate is to be believed, her children are still devastated at no longer having a camera crew following them around. While I doubt the loss of the crew is anywhere near as upsetting for them as their parents' divorce, I'm willing to accept that it's probably quite an adjustment. Obviously, both parents' became addicted to all the attention (hence Jon's antics and Kate's desperation to have another show), so it would make sense that the kids, being more vulnerable to begin with, would become addicted too.

But then how can Miss "I always put my children first" possibly think that the best thing she can do for her kids is to have her own show, with her own camera crew - so she's getting the attention she claims her children so desperately crave, while they watch, 'devastated', from the sidelines? It's called 'rubbing it in their faces'. She got them hooked; the least she could do is go cold turkey with them, and move on to a new, reality-tv-free phase of their lives.

This is absolutely not to say I think the kids should be back on tv. The other day, I googled Mady out of curiosity, and was horrified at all the sites that popped up that called her maladjusted, a bitch, etc. I cannot imagine exposing one's child to such public scrutiny and such hatred. My daughter's the same age as the twins, and she and her friends all know how to use google. I can just imagine how devastated she would be to find sites saying that about her.

I am ashamed to say that I once watched this show. I too have now blocked TLC because of the way they have handled this whole mess. So no, I will not be watching any reality show with Kate.

In it, she will probably talk about having the extensions glued onto her hair, how horrendously horrendous the procedure was and how Madelyn and Cara did not even appreciate all her sacrifice.

I don't believe that anything is too far for her to go. She would adore being the bachlorette (can you imagine?) and will forever try to somehow allow the kids to work even if that means moving them out of the state.

Does anyone think that she and Jon will reconcile as part of the scam, doing a reconciliation tour of churches and talk shows?

Besides Kate spending $7,000 on her hair extensions, in this economy, after crying less than 60 days ago about not being able to pay her bills, just pissed off that many more people!

Here is a premise of the show: Kate could be one of those traveling nannies who intervene in families with uber-brat kids. She would provide advice on parenting, discipline and raising children in general. After all, she has eight kids so that must make her an expert.

On top of that, Kate would also offer marital advice to the parents. She was married so that must make her an expert on that too.

Right.

Oh my goodness, this was great! They had Janice Dickinson on Access Hollywood tonight they asked her what Kate's new show should be about and Janice said it should be about "Her penile implants"! Too funny. Then Billy Bush pressed her for a real answer and she said it shouldn't be about her cooking because we have not seen her really cook. She said she is a hack and finds her uninteresting and boring etc etc , just went off on Kate and Billy Bush was just stunned. Hopefully you will be able to see it on you tube or something because it was great!

OK, TLC, you insist on giving the repulsive Kate Gosselin her own reality show. How about showing us what we really want to know?

-Interview her parents and ask about Kate's homely childhood, her reasons for needing fertility treatments, and why they no longer speak to her
-Interview Elizabethtown neighbors
-Interview Jon's friends
-Interview Kate's former coworkers
-Interview people from the fertility clinic
-Interview former employees of the Gosselins'
-Show us who really takes care of those kids

Then you'd have a show people who actually watch

This show gives her another excuse to run off and abandon her children to others to be raised. She had children so that she could capitalize off of their existence and now she is riding on their coattails to stay in the limelight.

It just stinks that she has no true empathy for anyone (except herself of course). We can all imagine these awful jobs and how she will be demeaned and learn a lesson, but really all she'll walk away from it with is "dang!!! I broke a nail!!!"

She's a monster.

Kate is under contract with TLC to develop the new show and she's being paid under that contract. She never really stopped earning income from TLC. They have her under contract which prohibits her from going anywhere else trying to get an entertainment job. Why anyone else would want her is the big question though!

ROFL! I can just picture TLC execs scrambling around trying to find a show, any sort of show, that Kate could carry by herself. We know Kate is unable to make pleasant small talk, appear interested in others, or connect on any level with others. She doesn't really like other people. Do you suppose it was a complete disaster from start to finish, and so now they realize they have to scrap the idea of having Kate doing different jobs, especially any that involve dealing with other people?

More and more, I agree that TLC could well be trying to keep Kate mollified and complacent until they can settle their lawsuit with Jon. So they tell her they are working on a new concept, maybe even send her off with a camera crew to film a segment here and there, but they never intend to create a new show for her.

C'mon Kate, once your TLC contract is up, please try out for Celebrity Fear Factor, or get in the ring and go a few rounds with Tonya Harding. She'll help you get the remaining extensions out!

Jon is also still under contract. Is he still getting paid?

It sounds to me like Kate is on what is called a talent holding contract. That means she would be paid for a certain time period until it expires. They could have given her a sum up front or be paying her monthly. It would not be a huge sum, but it could support her and the kids a few months. From what the network is putting out, I'd guess it expires around June or July.

I think the show will be insulting to single moms that actually work these jobs! Either she will say these are EASY. Or she will complain all day long, which won't endear the audience to her one bit! The audience won't sympathize with her when she leaves the tough job and goes home with a big paycheck to her mcmansion with helpers. Sorry TLC, bad idea - it just won't work.

I thought about this, but I really don't think she'd comprehend any of it even being right there. She'd use it as a photo op, more stuff to get her on the tabloids, but it would never really touch her in any real way & in the end I just don't wish her on anyone but the Taliban.

The people of Haiti are having it hard enough, they don't need to deal with kate too on top of everything else. She doesn't have a family, they're her attempt at a show biz career & I don't believe they mean anything more to her than that.

We'll never know unless someone from TLC or People blabs. However, it seems logical that TLC paid for them because they used a TLC stylist and Kate seemed to have very little control over how it was done. They most likely want Kate to be sporting a new look for her new show - a softer, gentler Kate. If Kate were doing this herself at her own cost, would she not have had it done at a real salon, been in a comfortable salon chair while having it done, refused to have bangs cut, and got it done for a WHOLE lot less than $7,000?

And probably had a pedicure at the same time? ;-)

No, somebody else was calling the shots on this day with the stylist. I bet it was TLC, and they paid for it, calling it an essential business expense to ready their star for her new ventures.

Ugh.

Wouldn't the hair extensions be considered a bonus and would need to be declared on taxes? I can understand getting hair done, makeup, manicure, etc. for a photo shoot, but aren't the extensions more like a gift from TLC or are they on loan?

Also, if Kate is still being paid by TLC, wouldn't Jon also be receiving compensation? If he's paying the high child support that has been reported, he must have a source of income.

*******

I am no expert on taxes and taxable
income/gifts, but I think that the hair was done for the People article shoot, therefore would be
considered not for KATE but for PEOPLE MAGAZINE. But, and this is the big thing, they were something Kate could wear after the photo shoot. They were not like a uniform given to an employee for work that has the company logo on the shirt that the employee would not wear outside the job.

In my own case, I cannot deduct the cost of my regular clothes from my taxes, because I can wear those to meetings, to shop, to go to lunch with friends. They are considered street clothes. But if I buy a pulpit robe, I can deduct that from my taxes because I won't be wearing that out in my regular daily activities.

Kate's hair weave is hers to keep and does not have TLC or People emblazed on it. She can't take them out and hand them back. Therefore, if they were paid for by them, they are probably taxable. I hope she is prepared for that possibility.

As an aside, when Oprah Winfrey's guests are given a taxable gift, such as a car, Oprah's company also pays for the taxes incurred on that gift. It is possible that TLC has that same arrangement with the Gosselins.

jibberjabbers said...

If TLC did paid for it, then Kate can consider this as a "gift". So Kate isn't liable for any taxes. Any "gift' under $13k is tax free on both sides. (TLC & Kate).

Ted still has to pay taxes.

Still looks like a wig said...

It's only a gift if it's given freely with no expectation of anything in return. In this case it was for the People shoot and as an ad for the hair guy from What Not to Wear.

Kate and Jon are in different situations with TLC. Neither should be paid for J&K+8 since Jon pulled the plug. However, Kate is in the process of developing a new show with TLC and could be receiving compensation for that under a separate contract from Jon.

If Jon is getting an income, I highly doubt it is from TLC.

PA Woman said...

Don't forget, not only were the extensions used in the photo shot, but TLC taped the process of putting them in and put it up on the website so having them done could also be considered "working" for Kate.

The laws are pretty complicated. I know where I work we get quarterly awards. If they give us a gift card, the card is taxible. But if the find out what we want, purchase it, and give it to us in is not considered taxable.

The IRS is pretty cold-blooded. Given the right agent, they might comb through her books with a fine tooth comb. I'd say the only individual more heartless than Kate would be an IRS agent who smells tax evasion !

I don't know if the $7,000 weave would be considered a taxable gift or not. I look at it this way: Say a friend of mine wanted to pay for my beauty salon visit. I get my hair done, my stylist receives payment, and everyone is happy. Just because my cut and color costs under $150, doesn't make it any less a gift that a friend paid for.

In that view, I'd say Kate's $7,000 weave could be considered a gift to her from TLC.

But from another standpoint - she got the weave so she could do a photo shoot (and with that publicity, TLC and Kate both hoped to gain some benefit -- more viewers, prove to advertisers she is viable and that they should pay to advertise on some new show starring Kate, etc.) In that respect, it was a business expense incurred by TLC, similar to a marketing expense. I would think TLC can claim that on their taxes as a deduction.

The thing with hair styling is that it's a service, not a product. It's not a new car that she can drive, or furniture, appliances, clothing. It's not taxable (meaning, my stylist says your charge today is $110, not $110 plus tax). He pays taxes on it as income, but I don't pay taxes on it as a product, like I would the other things I mentioned.

LOL - I must be in a strange mood this morning, writing all about tax consequences of a weave.

Companies don't give "gifts" per se. They can give charitable donations to charitable organizations. Otherwise everything is specifically identified as a type of expense (compensation, repairs, supplies, miscellaneous, etc), but whether it is an allowable business expense is another issue. It sounds like there is definitely a tax issue on these reality shows. If TLC pays for all these personal expenses (hair, maintenance of home, etc), they most likely should be considered a taxable event. Also, if a company gives an employee cash, a gift card, a trip, or a new watch...it is taxable. However, there are certain exceptions such as safety awards, length of service awards, etc. These are spelled out in the Internal Revenue Code and have dollar criteria assigned as well.
The IRS should audit the Gosselins but do an audit on TLC also to see if they are properly issuing 1099's/W-2's for all of the payments going out for the reality show "costs."

Anonymous said...

I would think jon and kate have a company or LLC set up to take in the compensation from their "work"...then if they do get taxed from TLC on their "benefits" then Jon and kate will try to "write-off" these same amounts as "business expenses related to the reality show"...
I'm sure Kate will not want to pay more in taxes. I'm thinking though that TLC probably doesn't even file the 1099's/w-2's appropriately and include the benefits. They probably "hide" these costs under marketing and development costs for the shows. The IRS probably needs to review the corporate policy and procedures on all of these benefits & expenses paid on behalf of the individuals involved.

I wouldn't watch this even if it wasn't Kate, because I see no entertainment value. Dirty Jobs is presented with an educational bent. Yes, it's entertaining, but Mike Rowe humbly but with humor allows people with jobs most of us would never think of, educate the public about them. Deadliest Catch, Ice Wars, and the like similarly entertain while educating. The key for both is that they feature the REAL workers doing their jobs, with the except of Mike Rowe who makes a valient effort to keep up with them. :-)

I've waitressed. I don't see any entertainment value in watching Kate, Paris Hilton, or any other psuedo-celebrity doing what they consider menial jobs, that are considered "food on table" jobs for the rest of America. This sort of presentation is a slap in the face to those who work their hardest to support their families.

If TLC is suing Jon and their business, now that the divorce is final, are they still suing Kate? The business could be dissolved or even bankrupt.

Regarding 2009 income taxes, since their divorce was finalized by the end of the year, would Jon and Kate be able to file separate taxes? Maybe that is why Kate wanted the divorce finalized by the end of December. Neither would have to show income or be responsible for the other's taxes.

Doubt they can dissolve their joint business since it is named in a law suit. They were not suing Kate directly, they are suing her via the business. Even if the the business declared bankruptcy, TLC would put a claim against it in bankruptcy court, so it couldn't dissolve until that, and all other claims were addressed.

I'm sure Kate has started her own company without Jon, but their other one is still sitting out there until all legal issues, including the TLC suit are addressed. It should still have income from book sales, etc even if it is small.

Lightbulb moment! I have it!!! Kate's new show:

19 Psycho Dramas & Traumas and Counting...Tonight at 8pm.

lol!! 9 months later, Michelle has a baby that looks like Jon. The little Duggars totally trash the McMansion. I can't even imagine Jim Bob's reaction to Kate, he'd probably still be on his knees a year later, praying for her soul after spending half an hour with her in one of her tantrums. Can you imagine her going after little Jackson or Johanna with a wooden spoon, for breaking something? They'd have her hog tied and locked up in the attic. Or "girls dormitory" as they call it. Seeing her cook organic meals for 20 people three times a day and then clean up after them all might be entertaining. "Hellooooooooooooo?"

If Kate is paid under contract by TLC for whatever reason - to keep her happy and her mmouth shut while they wait for the dust to settle around their lawsuit against Jon for instance, to keep her from fleeing elsewhere now that she is the fifth most clicked on story on the internet (or was a month or two ago, now is a very different story) she is still being paid by them only NOW, instead of being a STAR, she is whatever they call the people who develop shows or "help" develop them (would love to be a fly on the wall in that session, Kate wearing a popcorn box or lampshade on her head and squealing for attention like a 7 year old doing cartwheels, thinking she's such the witty attraction)- is that a producer?
You can best bet after having to fax the accountant or Tax Man all their financial info (that she sent from Mailboxes Etc or Kinko's because they can't afford a home print/fax/scanner for $125 at BestBuy, either that or so everyone could see her photos and understand what scum Jon is for leaving her with all those bills and how Can Do Kate has to Do It All By Herself) Kate is now well aware of relevant laws as to how all these freebies are taxed, and if she allowed such ugly hair extensions to be grafted to her skull, (because the children all sobbed and begged her to have lonbg hair) it would be handled as a gift from TLC to her, or part of a production cost, and any tax paid for by THEM. Or at least negotiated into the fees she would get for a cover shoot on People - happy to pay $2000 in taxes if I am getting $150,000 for the shoot, or however much.
Whatever it is, there is a hell of a lot of $$$ floating around that makes me wonder why Miss Liar can't pay her bills or give her young kids milk and they have to have juice instead. I hope the dentist visits are also free or the kids will be living with cavities while mom the TLC Producer gets another pair of shoes, manicure, chin implants, etc.

But I don't understand why anyone would want to watch someone "Make Kate" do anything. She is not some rich, self entitled, highly well known gorgeous teenager like Paris Hilton was, along with her sidekick Nicole Ritchie, I have to admit that show was amusing. I had a diva of my own at home - well, not that we are rich but same basic attitude to doing work, same level of commitment and accountability - and it was kind of funny to watch them half ass their way through everything and try to sweet talk out of it. Then, of course, they grew up.
However Kate's meant to BE grown up, 34? was a nurse, was a SAHM and hearing her carry on and squeal and screech and wear popcorn boxes and make stupid faces isn't exactly going to bring an audience out in hordes, except for BM and her ilk, who evidently think that sort of thing is highly amusing and brave and shows extreme talent etc etc. Given TLC does not appear to know what the show will actually BE yet I think they've probably asked themselves the same question. I mean look at the People footage of her making a one woman ass-spectacle of herself during her hair don't footage and ask yourself, how many half hour episodes of her screaming and mugging her way through assembling a Happy Meal at McDonald's or whatever she's Made to do, can anyone handle watching? She can't cook or at least not well enough to have her own show alone, and any reputable cook would watch her footage with Emeril and say NO THANKS, she can't be even on a talk show PANEL never mind a lone host, her "reality" is as a mom with her 8 kids off limits - it's really intriguing to me to guess why TLC is keeping her around considering everyone but the Possum Pack seems to dislike her, feel her 15 is up, and wants to be shet of her. Part of it has to be to keep her close, you don't need her as an enemy while suing Jon, and part of it because they Can't Bear to Part with their cash cow, even tho they can't imagine what to do with her they don't want some other cable channel to get her. Maybe they can get her to pretend to be a dwarf, after all Little Couple is doing well, and LPBW did really well. Little Kate Big Nuisance...? Little Kate Big Issues? I'm sure she'd give it a shot, all for her kids.

Works for another network said...

The deal Kate has would not be as a producer. It's probably what is called a talent holding contract. She can't take a job with another network or even have discussions with them. All her appearances still have to be approved by TLC and she would have to toe their party line. They may or may not produce a show with her, but are paying to keep her from being available elsewhere and to keep a muzzle on her. That's how I see it anyway.

Hair extensions aren't "grafted to the skull." LOL! They are bonded to the hair already on the head, thus making the hair longer! That's why they are called "extensions."

PA mom, I know how a weave works (and agree Jon's plugs were hideous and just as vain) I was just fooling, I just think it is so foolish especially for someone who claims they cannot have long hair due to migraines, then to sit 20 hrs and have some glue hair to other hair, tugging on it and uncomfortable, bright hot lights etc - what a MESS, and a huge expense, and for what? That People cover she looked like she was on crack. Or just had an ice water enema, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I think she is manic and just so full of herself; it bugs me that she is such a liar, such a balf faced liar, and always bringing those poor kids into it. (The kids BEGGED me to have a $7000 weave and DEMANDED that I use their organic milk money! I suppose) The idea that she thinks we are all, or even 2 million of us are, so stupid as to believe that her kids cried for the camera crews to return and do the show, and begged for her to have long hair - OMG. What are they going to beg her to do next? Cheat with Steve? Go drunk driving in her SUV, barreling around at night in the dark doing 90 mph bouncing off people's cars? Every stupid thing she does for publicity or for her own ends is supposed to be because the kids wanted her to? Not just that she did it for them; they BEGGED. Oh yes. Colin probably was begging to have his airway cut off the other day when she smothered his mouth.
I don't think she gives a darn what the kids want, and they would know that by now and not even bother crying and begging, I'm sure when they started in on that hearing about the DIVORCE she told them to STHU, and the level of gullibility she expects from her "fans" is ludicrous. And yet, they never fail her. Morons.

stopthemadness said...

She could well be on a talent holding (find a thimble to hold it in) contract I suppose and TLC just SAYING she's being paid to help them work on a new gig because it sounds better than admitting they have no clue what else she is good for and don't want her as a loose canon out there til this is all settled in April with Jon or whenever it IS settled with him.
Wading through the lies between her and TLC is like walking in a BOG, it's tiring, it feels endless, it's dirty, and you feel you want OUT.
However I have no doubt that the 2 million Extreme Fans will watch whatever she does next and welcome to it. I relish the thought of coming here and reading the witty snark of our talented recappers, I quit watching Kate or clicking on her stories months ago and haven't missed it. The less we watch and click the less she is worth to TLC or any network although, if there is truth to the rumor that Jon will box Michael Lohan, there seems to be no END to the stupid ideas they will come up with to promote their sorry selves.
Got to go pick up kids from school and make supper.Need to hurry and get into my highest heels and that Members Only jacket from 1983 and my Owl sunglasses. I'll try to keep from suffocating the boys when they dare to talk to me about their day. Look for me in the tabloids!

One thing I do know about taxes on "gifts" from an employer is this: Gift cards, etc. are taxable income. Many employers, however, pay the tax on such gifts for their employees. So it's possible that TLC is paying the tax for Kate on things like the weave. Tangible gifts that are moderately priced, like a ham for the holidays, isn't considered taxable income. As for the "gifts" from the product placement donors - I have no clue if it's taxable or not.

If it's on the books anywhere, by anyone, as a marketing expense or any kind of write off which I'm sure it is, then it's taxable. I am just mean enough to hope Kate got bit in the butt last year or at some point when the tax man figured it out. I bet tho Juicy Juice et all paid the tax on it being as how they are so poor. I would think the freebies would have to come with some kind of disclaimer about somebody paying the taxes - they can't just unload a bunch of crap on you then surprise! you get this tax bill for stuff you never agreed to pay for. But Kate will be smart enough by now to make sure Someone Else is Paying which is the first half of her credo; the other half being No one Else Gets A Dime. That I think is why she can't be on a talk show or cooking show with Paula Deen or even a show with her own freakin family. She can't stand sharing the stage. I am somehwat looking forward to hearing about what she'll do to keep the limelight on herself in this next show, given the total lack of any talent.
Come and get yer POP corn!!

"Wading through the lies between her and TLC is like walking in a BOG, it's tiring, it feels endless, it's dirty, and you feel you want OUT"

"Every stupid thing she does for publicity or for her own ends is supposed to be because the kids wanted her to? Not just that she did it for them; they BEGGED."

But don't forget, she said that the kids "deserve" the trips, the new house, the perks, everything. What three-year-old deserves a trip to ski school or a luxury suite in Hawaii?
Did they also "deserve" the divorce?

Sure "they" can. The IRS doesn't really accept the "I didn't know" excuse. It's your responsibility (and your tax attorney's) to know exactly what is taxable and what isn't, who pays for what, and to keep a record.

I just wish TLC would let this exploitation of the kids die out.
I don't think very many will watch, even the hardcore sheeple will probably become bored of this one woman circus.

BTW, Whatever happened to Aunt Jodi and Uncle Kevin after they blew the whistle back in the late Spring?

I think K8's time on TV is over...
TLC is still blocked on my TV since last summer, I will never watch that channel again.

If it is a show about her doing different jobs, I posted an idea similar to that a few months ago here, saying that it should please both fans and nonfans to see her trying different jobs. So if this is true, I would laugh. I guess they really do read here!
