Interesting that this is published outside of the US first. What do we all think that is about?

I am SO glad they are selling the book in Europe. Peanut butter is not very common (or wasn't when I lived there), so they really need that sandwich recipe!

Seriously, it's interesting that haven't bothered to release it here.

"close-knit". Wow. Must have been written before the the divorce. How embarrasing for the kids.

What? Are they kidding me? "LOVE is in the Mix"???? You mean they didn't have the sense to permanently shelve this pathetic lie?

After the sbsolute freak show we have all been subjected to with J&K in the headlines everywhere we look (there's no escape), does this publisher SERIOUSLY think any of us actually believe the whole Kate as Cook/Kate As Wise and Loving Mom schtick????!! If so, the publishers are as delusional as their author.

What's #8? Can't view it.

OMG!! What a title!

What mix...an organic one I presume? What meals that are memories?

--Oh yes, we remember them...9 chips, 5 slices of apple,a tablespoon of some macaroni thing & Juicy Juice (not milk, it's too expensive) OR maybe the blueberry pancakes on paperplates.Or the tiny lunches served al fresco, out on the driveway(so Khate wouldn't have to sweep the diningroom floor)?--Hey, then there's the meals at the McMansion...cooked by Emeril or maybethe catering company or not-the-nannies.

Sure am looking forward to making meals that are memories, Khate. Is she kidding??

Interesting. It's not available on Amazon.co.uk. It also lists the authors as both Jon and Kate Gosselin.

I know from Emeril's cookbook that you can make a yummy version of Muddy Buddies (I mean MOnkey Chow) from Nutella...so maybe that's what Kate will use.

I believe this is the print equivalent of "straight to DVD." Zondervan undoubtedly had paid Kate a generous advance for the book. She wrote it, so they can't really say, "Kate, honey, we don't want to publish your book since you're getting divorced," without her threatening to sue them for breach of contract. (She is a "contract honorer" you know.) In order to honor the contract, and possibly recoup the money they already paid her, Zondervan apparently decided to make the book available in a few choice countries - where people are unlikely to have been following the family disfunction too avidly.

Brummygirl said...

What a joke!!!

That's pretty insulting to international fans/non-fans. To think that they wouldn't know this family is as messed up as it is. I hope no one buys this book, as it only feeds the greedy publisher that hopes to make a few bucks off a broken family.

On the shop CBN site the author is listed as jon&kate Gosselin and Kate Gosselin. What does that mean? This is who we are but it is my book? Also, it notes that this book is sold out. The other books are available in spanish, and audio as well. I believe Kate wanted to wait for the release of this book about "Their family" so Jon wouldn't be included in the proceeds.
If anyone writes a book and includes the name of anyone other than themselves, they must be compensated. This book includes pictures of Jon's kids, Jon's family and Jon's name. There wouldn't be any books, shows, media, nothing without jon. Yet, I bet Kate finds a way to not give him a dime off the stories about the family. What a shame. Maybe she will at least be able to buy groceries for the week, with the sale of "Her" family recipes. Truthfully, they are probably Jon's grandmothers and Nana Janets recipes.

Keoki said...

From what I've read from people who know more about this kind of thing - I think it means that they dumped the book and are just trying to get what little they can from it. I think it's similar to what they did with Kate's clothing line - they essentially dumped it overseas.

Lauren said...

They are dumping it off in Europe where nobody knows Kate Gosselin. She has become a PR nightmare here and I doubt that her book would generate a profit for Zondervan.

Looks like the Gosselin train is coming to an end.

Kate and her crumbling empire of lies can go sit on her white plastic thrown and cry.

Gimme Gimme said...

You would think since they incorporated and have a business title together that one could not profit off the kids without the other. But if mommie dearest can find a way to cheat she will. Jon needs a better attorney. I hope no one falls for this goop. Eggplant parmayuckeson anyone or Chicken yuckatori?

I can't wait for Jon's book to come out and to see the movie. It will be great and he and the kids can hit the high seas in his new yacht with his new educated girlfriend. I think he finally found someone with a brain and a heart I am hoping any way.

I agree with Big Wooden Spoon - when we lived in Germany PB was not a common item. Our landlady used to ask us to pick it up at the commissary for her on occasion. I'm guessing that they'd already printed X number of copies and realized they couldn't release it here. It's kind of like when we were on one tour in Germany - New Coke came out and the US said "Oh, hell no" so what did they do? They shipped it all over to commissaries, etc. It's the "we've got it and now what do we do with it" principal. I'd be interested to see how the sale of it is going.

What a joke, Khate can't cook, anyone who has ever seen the show would know that.

Just a side not- since I figure none of us can believe this is real- I checked out #9, " hot to raise a child through guilt and manipulation" I just could not believe it was real, but it is, BUT the title is a joke, The book looks like a sarcastic jokey type of book, like an "how not to parent" for laughs thing. BUT it is pretty damn funny that this is the title that comes after Khate's book. If ANYONE every parented through guilt and manipulation, it is Khate, IF you can call what she does to those poor children "parenting" I don't, I call it "neglecting" and "abusing"

Charles said...

The cbn site says this book is "out of stock."

Zondervan probably has a warehouse full and they are trying to get rid of them through foreign companies.

We didn't see Kate actually cook much beyond the "old grandma soup," the grilled chicken she served that was not really done, the Saturday morning pancakes, and a few things like this.

TLC had her in their pocket and gave her credit for a lot of ideas, such as feeding her family organic. She couldn't have come up with that on her own.

TLC had lots of ideas to make the Gosselins more interesting beyond the size and unusual circumstances of their litter.

IMO, the book 'Love Is In The Mix' doesnt even exist let alone sitting on any cook book shelves over seas.

TUNDRA said...

There is no image available of the book on the CBN website and the book which is listed at $29.99 is out of stock.

Could it be the publisher didn't print many copies back in Nov 09 or is taking orders first before printing?

In any case, it's odd Clean Slate Kate didn't do a book tour during December which seems like an obvious time to publicize the book for Christmas gifts.

My sense is the publisher may be skittish about Kate and Jon's marketability in light of their ugly, extremely messy, bitter divorce.

dustilies said...

Will the book include an insert for the Uk market explaining how to modify Kate's stunningly original US Flag cake into a Union Jack?

Estonians will need blackberries and blueberries. The people of India are SOL, as their cake would have to include peas and carrots along with a medallion of blueberries in the center.

What an embarrassment for American home cooks . . . guess I'll go eat some of that Grandma Soup that all Americans have on hand at all times.

Whether Kate can cook or not is a moot question, since it's highly unlikely she had much to do with actually authoring the book. She probably provided a few family pictures and a few recipes. A ghost writer provided the rest ... the text and enough additional recipes to fill out the book ... and put the entire book together.

Gimme Gimme said...

I guess it is safe to assume this one won't make it to the New York Times Best Seller list and the money to mommie dearest's swiss bank account all the while accepting/soliciting charitable donations.

The 4th of July cake is right off the cover of Woman's Day. The rest must be from Nana Janet, Beth and Jodi and Jon's family.

Where would Khate get recipes? I remember an episode where she said "I don't follow recipes".
So, Khate, did you just use recipes that Emeril,Beth and Jon's mother gave you...plus a few from magazines(like the flag cake) and called them your own?
Hope Kate wasn't counting on the proceeds of the book to pay for anything necessary, like hair extensions, tanning sessions or designer clothes.

If this were just about anyone else, I might feel sorry for them for putting their heart and soul into a book and then having people avoid it like the plague. But then, I think it's been pretty well established that K8 Gosselin has neither a heart nor a soul.

And since this is one of the most mean spirited women I've ever witnessed, IMO, those book prices are hilarious!

Imagine the Rumplestilskin Dance Katie Irene must be doing these days - outside a few demented/dimwitted females, the world simply refuses to take Miss Thing seriously.

Good luck with that new show, Katie Darlin'. I'm sure it'll be every bit as successful as "Love is in the Mix".

stopthemadness said...

Tut tut! It's for sale but "out of stock" -- NOT sold out - for $29 no freakin wonder. I didn't pay that for the Julia Child cookbook, why would i pay it to find out that you don't CUT the PB&J you make it open faced on one slice, and let the child fold it in half. If you cut it, all the flavor leaks out!!
Oh wait - that was a Charlie Brown cartoon. Kate I think would find it important to mention that you cut it ON THE DIAGONAL. Such a personal touch, like every person in America doesn't cut the sandwich, if they cut it at all, on the diagonal.

Love is in the MIX,is right - I'm sure Kate has never made anything from scratch in her life apart from her Old Garbage soup where she throws in all the contents of the veggie bin with some water. We used to call that Nail Soup when the kids were in pre school.
How embarrassing for Americans, that wherever they are dumping the first prints (that still say Jon and Kate rather than, as I'm sure they will in the US, JUST KATE) those Europeans will think that this represents the typical American mom and how we cook?

Ugh! I don't want her representing me!

Maybe they are test marketing the book - if it flops hugely then maybe they won't try and sell it here because it'd be too embarassing for the publisher? Nah. I think they are getting rid of the ones they printed up that had both names on. Kate was quite certain in filing for the divorce to backdate it to a time prior to her "authoring" her second and third books.

stopthemadness said...

OMG, Multiple Blessings is selling for fifty cents? lol. The shipping will be more (by 14 cents) than the book.

This is so sad. I"m sure Kate expected it to be going strong thirty years from now, maybe on the High School or Univiersity currriculum, like Catcher in the Rye or The Diary of Anne Frank.

A cult classic.

Zonderhaven is an imprint of the Harper-Collins group. It could be that the US marketing group, in "agreeance" with Zonderhaven, thinks that publishing it in the US would bring more negative attention than it is worth in the long run. US Harper-Collins might be retaining the right to publish at some future date (or sell those rights to another US publisher).

Meanwhile, the UK division of Harper-Collins (which often makes decisions independent of its US counterpart) may have decided to go ahead with the publication and distribution to other markets it has special arrangements with (like India). Where Estonia fits in, I have no idea.

My husband has been a bookseller for twenty years--when I laid out what we know about the situation, he said it makes absolutely no sense. But does indicate that the Gosselin brand has turned rancid. Or the cookbook so totally sucks that nobody will stick up for it. Perhaps the sales reps staged a sit-in.

Forgot to mention earlier - I was looking on abebooks the other day for another book and stumbled across "Multiple Blessings". Many stores/dealers had it listed for $1(for those of you not familiar with abebooks - it's, for want of a better word - a clearing house - where many booksellers from around the world list their available books. It's a great place to find hard-to-find titles and OOP books). To the moderators - if the info re abebooks isn't allowed, please snip from post.

No, that is NOT correct.
It means that it is not selling....there are 4,182,106 books selling better than it! For instance, the Amazon UK #2 bestseller, "Breaking Dawn-Twilight Saga"- has a Sales Rank of 2. The Sales Rank of "Love Is In the Mix" is 4,182,107.....beyond bad!

It matters little to me which publisher's name is on the book. I'm just thrilled that somebody came to their senses, decided this book was garbage and got it off the American market ASAP. Nobody needs this cookbook. Nobody.

It was just hoped that Kate could make a lot of cash for very little work. Very little work. Like none. She was a hot commodity and her name alone would sell it, right? When that didn't fly, the book was viewed as a hot potato nobody wanted to handle for long.

If Gladys Smith or Frank Jones had tried to publish this book, no publisher would have talked to them. It was the name recognition, not the product itself that was going to "sell". So sad, but Kate Gosselin is not
the face to associate with any product you want to sell.

OMG. An understatement. Out of Stock just means we ain't got any, I ain't got any here either and it's not because I had a bunch of them and people came and pounced on them to read. Out of stock is not very good. I assume this is the new book, I know her first one, 8 Little Meal Tickets or whatever it was called was on the NY Best sellers list for 20 minutes, it did sell some copies. But the idea of her selling a cookbook is pathetic especially in Italy. The italians invented Western civilization what can Kate possibly teach them about cooking? Her recipe for cacciatore or parmesan anything would be like teaching your grandmother to suck eggs, as they say.
TLC had nothing to do with the book, I'm assuming - although they may have provided photos? I wonder why they say its publishing is delayed since it's obviously on sale for 49 centavos so it HAS been published. Maybe in the in fight between her and Jon she decided if he was going to get half the money for it she wasn't going to promote it, sort of cutting off the nose to spite the face. Although in this case I think she's done us all a favor.
I'm still getting my head around this sad sack and her fashion disasters - the hat? the Hair? the shoes? - trying on roles and personalities, am I an author? A celebrity? A Star? An Interviewer and panelist? No, you are last year's reality show, cancelled because without your kids you aren't all that interesting. Without your kids and Jon.
I don't think TLC will dump her though and for her kids' sake I hope they don't, there is hopefully some limit below which they will not sink with her - and I would hate to see her humiliating her kids by going on Rock of Love or something. At least the way they've got her pigeon holed she has to sort of uphold some sort of caring mom persona. I just don't think Caring Mom and Celebrity go together without some third thing for which you are justifiably famous.

I wrote to Zondervan and received a vague answer:

What is the truth on the Gosselin cookbook?
Was it delayed or printed and shipped overseas?

Their answer:
Thank you for contacting Zondervan.

The book has been delayed. At this time Zondervan does not have a projected release date.

Thank you

You mean BM was wrong about it being released and sold out??

You know what? If anyone was stupid enough to buy this book, they are getting just what they paid for...a big nothing.

Can't even imagine why, unless they didn't look inside, a person would spend money learning how to make peanut & jelly sandwiches. Seems to me that my 2-year-old used to figure that one out --- also without using a recipe, Kate.

I posted the comment yesterday regarding "Multiple Blessings" being available on the internet for $.49 and $.75. I have no idea whether the new cookbook was ever released and what it sold for. Regarding TLC owned photos appearing in the J&K books, I wonder if TLC received a percentage from each book sold.

I do not want to be defined as hating anyone, dislike someone's actions..yes...shake my head at stupidity...yes and I am shaking my head at her because she is lost; lost in someone's else's personality and life and hoping for the breadcrumbs which that person scatters.
It really is sad!! There is one person on there who is the voice of reason in that pitiful bunch of Kate wannabes. They lament their Mondays missing the Gosselins. Surely there must be something else in their lives to fill that time slot!!

Um, Kate, at your house, love is most definitely NOT in the mix. However, wooden spoons and salmonella are. Is this cookbook in the humor section of these online bookstores?

-Buy chicken
-Buy top of the line outdoor gas grill
-Pour bottled marinade on chicken, let it soak up those juices for five minutes, or until film crew is set up to film you outside. Recycle empty bottle and make sure camera films this
-Bemoan being a single mother
-Place chicken on grill once you figure out how to turn it on
-Pray that you don't get food poisoning (mispronounced salmonella) and scream at your kids to keep their distance while grilling
-Cook chicken until it's pink and bloody
-Serve chicken to disgusted family

Before kate/tlc/jon could ever receive any royalties from the sale of the book it (the book) would have to make enough to pay back the publisher for the advance that she got. I'm thinking that she's never going to see a penny in royalties as she was at her "peak" when she inked the deal for the book and probably got a very handsome advance.

Wow, I really wonder what would go through Kate's mind if she read this blog. (I'm sure she does) I mean, I don't know if there's a lightbulb going off somewhere in her head. Although there are some snarky remarks, these posts speak the truth. I myself would be beyond depressed. No matter how much she's in denial, something has to ring true to her. How could there be soooo many intelligent, articualte people in the world seeing the SAME thing? You can only hide behind your pompous self for so long, the question is how much longer can she take the heat?
Every move she makes is lambasted (rightfully so), from the makeovers, boobs, diva attitude, $$, bus stop antics, the cookbook etc. As much as a she is a bitch, she still is human. I think she's going to crack soon.

I think that's exactly what Zondervan meant. They're not going to admit they dumped the book in foreign markets so they could recoup whatever they could get for this gigantic flop of a book.

Yep, Zondervan will never be able to recoup the advance they paid Kate when they thought anything she wrote would sell to the Christian market. Paying her a big advance was an investment in future sales, but their ROI collapsed like the stock market crash of 2008 with the divorce and subsequent negative publicity.

The only book that either Kate or Jon might be able to sell now is a tell-all about the demise of their relationship. Not by Zondervan, of course, but there are plenty of sleazy publishers who would want to sign them up to reveal the "untold story" and the behind-the-scenes dirt.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It'll be interesting to see which road (neither one the high one) K8 takes - telling her tawdry tale in some sleazy (ghost-written) format OR the 'my divorce pain drove me to my knees and helped me find my way back to gawd' for some Christian publisher.

One thing is certain: K8 will continue to try to milk as much attention as possible for as long as possible.

Hey, it doesn't have to be a sleazy publisher to want to sign them for the untold story and/or behind the scenes dirt....most any publisher will sign them for that book deal if it will make the publisher money and it will. I'd buy that one (when it went on sale) if anyone other than Kate wrote it.

Unlikely. Book contracts contain a clause typically that the publisher isn't obligated to put out the book. Pub probably just sold int'l rights to recoup some of advance in territories where her rep isn't so bad. Also, I doubt advance was that hefty. I'm guessing 50k based on my experience lawyering book ks.

Medusa Kate, interesting thought! Zondervan (and walmart) stopped it's association with Kate right after the separation announcement. I could be wrong, but I think they bailed before Jon went girl crazy. While I don't think they're as petty as tlc, they certainly have a beef with Kate pulling the plug on her marriage without even trying to work things out. Also the ginormous boobs, child beating, fakereligious fervor, lying, and bitchiness are not in sync with a Christian publishing house. Or the rest of the decent world, for that matter. Can't blame jon for this failure, Kate, try as you may

Considering the bashing the 8 Little Faces book received in Amazon.com reviews, I'm not surprised Zondervan rethought this cook book. The comments were brutal. Deservedly so, but still
very critical. One truly bad book makes the next book troublesome for a publisher.

p.s. My daughter buys organic and it's darned expensive -- but she has a rich husband. I could have never afforded it (as a single parent). Khate needs to earn more than a million/yr (according to Jon) to buy "organic" for 8 kids.

Due to Kate's narcissism, I doubt that comments about her behavior even phase her. She thinks she can do no wrong. On the other hand, I think comments about her looks really do get to her. The lengths that she has gone to try to improve her looks show that she is insecure about her looks.

I tend to not like to comment negatively about a person's looks, and I get annoyed when a public figure is disparaged for their looks when that is not what they are famous for. However, in Kate's case, I can see why there are so many comments. Her inner ugliness seems to pour out onto the outside, and her attempts at bettering her looks have backfired on her. And this seems to be the only kind of criticism that gets to her.

Oh my gosh, y'all. I was on amazon looking for something else, so searched for Kate Gosselin's other books. You are right - 8 Little Faces was universally slammed. So I looked at Multiple Ble$$ing$'s reviews. I went straight to 1-star. The same weirdos who comment on ROL and everywhere else are there, attacking everyone who comments negatively on the book or on the parents, especially Kate. People are not allowed to have an opinion. Two stand out: Reliable Reviews and pacific_mommy. It is astounding! I agree with previous posters that say these 'defenders' are probably the reason the queen needs security - not the 'jellus haters' who would just be happy if they faded into obscurity. Wow! If you are bored, check it out. It's quite entertaining......and disturbing.

katan the stupid said...

And on that note, Cheetah, Kate's looks have gotten worse with time and plastic surgery. She started off as a fresh-faced, naturally pretty girl (outward appearances only). The plastic surgery has aged her and given her a jowly face with the tell-tale surprised look associated with Botox, brow lifts, and the like. The overdone makeup may be necessary to hide evidence of lid surgery, and again, ages her tremendously. The boobs are just ridiculous and must gross out the kids. They also serve to make her look heavy. She used to be petite from the waist up, even when her lower half was much larger. Her God-given breasts were fine, and were in proportion with her smallish ribcage. The choice of clothing and extensions...sigh...all I can say is God has a sense of humor. Sad that she spent all this time, effort, and the kids' money only to wind up looking like a desperate 45 year old fool. And she hasn't spent one minute trying to improve what really counts, her behavior and treatment of others.
