Jon Gosselin Trying to Kill "Kate Plus 8"?

He's Seeking to Keep TV Crews from Videotaping His Kids, According to "The Insider"

(CBS) Is the reality show based on the Gosselin family about to go the way of their marriage? It appears the newly-renamed "Kate Plus 8," featuring Kate Gosselin and the eight Gosselin kids, with minimal participation from Jon Gosselin, may be separated from the airwaves. TLC announced the name change for "Jon & Kate Plus 8" early this week. On "The Early Show" Thursday, Lara Spencer, host of "The Insider," said Jon is apparently attempting to, in effect, shut-down production on the show by denying permission to videotape his children. "'The Insider' can exclusively reveal that Jon Gosselin, though his attorney, Mark J. Heller, is demanding production of the show be halted," Spencer says. "In two letters to TLC lawyers, dated September 29, 2009, Gosselin demands the network cease and desist production and leave his property. To quote one of the letters, Jon's attorney writes, "Effective immediately, no production crews are to enter Jon's family home for any reason. In the event that anyone enters the marital property, Jon Gosselin will notify the local authorities to effectuate police action against any trespassers.' " Spencer adds that Gosselin and his lawyer tell "The Insider' exclusively that Jon and Kate both own the property where the show is being shot. Jon has joint custody of the kids and is able to make decisions about their welfare. He deemed it was not in the best interest of the children's welfare to continue with production of the show." The letter, according to "The Insider," is dated the same day TLC sent out a news release about Jon's participation in the show being minimized and the show being re-named. "Jon found out about the name change the same way we all did -- through The Associated Press," Spencer says. "He and his attorney assert to 'The Insider' they've been in discussions to pull plug on the program and take the kids off the show for weeks prior to (Tuesday's) announcement."

TLC issued this response....

We are aware of Jon Gosselin's recent statements, and remain deeply disappointed at his continued erratic behavior. He and the family were shooting as recently as last Friday, without incident, and his latest comments are grossly inaccurate, without merit and are clearly opportunistic. Despite Jon Gosselin's repeated self destructive and unprofessional actions, he remains under an exclusive contract with TLC. Direct filming of the children has been currently suspended, pending further conversations between both parents.

I could not be more thrilled than with the news that Jon and Mr. Heller have taken on TLC and Khate on the matter of the kids being filmed. FINALLY! I hope this will eventually translate into the kids not being filmed at all -- ever, anywhere, not just on the property.

Speaking of property. Khate, these kids are NOT your property. You can't buy and sell them, although TLC will probably tell you otherwise, and I so hope that the court will make that permanent.

TLC's response was predictable. Most of us grow weary with THEIR self-serving statements.

Good for Jon! Hopefully he has papers dated a few weeks ago that shows this is not just a revenge move. But who cares if it is...baby steps. Kate can thry to "reject" putting on the brakes all she wants...it won't work. PA has no fault divorce and a spouse can't be forced to agree to the divorce for two years. Jon could refuse to sign for two years then I don't know if a judge just grants it or if there is more wrangling involved, but TWO YEARS Kate..you're not in conrol of that!!

Good. I don't care why Jon did it, I am just glad that during this turmoil the cameras will be off for a the time being. It will be dragged into court and the children will be appointed a guardian ad litem to represent their interests. Unfortunately the little children will likely not express displeasure with the filming because it is all they know.

Oh, the kids were "fine" with all the filming as they were growing up, and all of a sudden it's bad for them? Sour grapes, Jon?

Both Jon and Skunk Hair are morons.

How ironic that TLC claims "He and the family were shooting as recently as last Friday, without incident..." YET, they were the ones that annouced yesterday that the show will now be called just "Kate plus 8"...you can't have it both ways TLC. Why would Jon be removed from the show if like you claim that they were shooting as of Friday without incident?!
I hope this charade is finally over and I'm really glad to see that Jon has obtained smart legal counsel.
Oh - and whomever put that sign on their front gate needs to be smacked upside the head - if they work for Jon, don't you think they could at least spell him name correctly?
Can't wait to see LKL tonight - let's see if Larry is as nice to Jon as he was to Kate!

This is great news (and frankly I could care less what finally made Jon step up)!!! TLC is in major trouble and they have to know they're kidding themselves when they say his stance is "without merit." If Jon continues to fight this, the family court would be forced to appoint an independent guardian to determine what is best for the kids. I have yet to hear any kind of expert say the children should still be taping. Yippee!!!!!!!! This truly makes my day. GO JON!!!!

It's about time.

I pray that whatever happens, the kids do not become involved in their selfish mudslinging and that they have teachers, babysitters, nannies and others to give them the support that they need.

I love how the sign posted at the house spells Jon's name wrong AND says "under penelty of trespass."
Number one, penalty is not spelled like that. Number two, what is "penalty of trespass"?

So this is what it takes to get Jon to halt production!!?? NOT the welfare of his 8 precious children, but the almighty dollar (assuming he will no longer be getting paid if he is no longer being filmed). Why am I surprised.

aldergator said...

My take on this... If Jon can't make money off his kids, then no one can. Hopefully this will be the final straw to get this show off the air. Go away Gosselins!

season 5? said...

I hope the judge will look objectively at the situation. Yes, Jon's been acting completely crazy all year, and he contradicted himself ON TAPE about how the kids love filming, its good for them, etc.

BUT

he has finally done what's right.

And I believe he is putting himself on the line.

Couldn't he be in trouble for not getting permits, etc, just as much as TLC? Couldn't he be opening himself up to a barrage of accusations and counterlawsuits? Child abuse accusations?

His lawyer must have made him fully aware of the personal risk involved, and he's still moving forward to protect the kids.

Say what you want, I don't care how suspect it looks. It's going to be tough days for him ahead, and I hope he realizes there are people behind him.

I'm dreaming, but wouldn't it be awesome if he completely turned his life around and became a reformed advocate for children, along with Jodi and Kevan?

Don't laugh. I like happy endings.

Linda said...

It's all about timing!!! Why didn't he do this months ago? He waits until his name is removed from the show and his paycheck is cut. I am glad that the show is being halted in the meantime and hope that the show stops production permanently. Let the children grow up without the cameras in their lives. They've been through enough already.

cjmiller53 said...

Glad to see that Jon has finally stood up to TLC. He said at the end of last season that he didn't want to continue the show and was overruled by Kate and TLC. I do not believe that he wants the show to end because he was reduced to a guest star position, thus losing his salary. I truly believe he realizes that this farce they call their lives is not good for his childrens welfare. Hope that he and his lawyers can finally do the honorable thing for his children and let them live private lives in a healthier environment.

Finally Peace for the Children said...

FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY!!!! Those kids are protected at least for now.

And it seems that Jon has finally gotten the idea that the whole sane world has, that the filming was bad for his kids. They had virtually no voice and no choice.

This most recent action by Jon and his lawyers may even result in actual legal representation for the children (mighty long in coming...)

What saddens me is that I know, as sure as I am typing here, that the Mother from Hell will be taking this all out on the kids, with no one to see her whip them, yell at them, deprive them of love and hugs. I am hopeful that the kids will offer support to each other and they will find compassion from teachers and others outside the family.

We have been hoping this would happen and it has. No more intrusion into their precious lives. I wish things had been handled differently from the beginning and this sad ending could have been avoided. But common sense has prevailed.

I wish happy days and peace for these precious 8 children from here on.

As for Kate, I really can't say what I wish for her. The censors wouldn't allow it.

How sad for the kids that their parents are making this already difficult situation so public - and then try and cover it up with a fake reality show. What a disaster! I'm glad that Jon has finally realized - what the rest of the world has seen - that this show is doing them more harm than good. Was it really worth it????

TLC's statement is pathetic at best. They are the ones who are not willing to let the gravy train stop. Do they really think they can exploit this family for another 10/15 years. Please. People lose interest in a hurry. It is already happening with the ratings of late.

Go away TLC and take Kate with you. You make a great couple!

Wendy A. said...

I don't give a rats ass what Jon's motives are. Just get those kids off the air. Go Team Kids!

Aimee said...

I have to say, Way to Go, Jon. One of the comments in another post alluded to Jon saying a few weeks ago that he had been working on stopping filming of the kids. I hope there's a paper trail to prove that, but even if there isn't, this is great. I think that a court could possibly look at footage of the last ep of last season where Jon is saying he doesn't want to continue the show and perhaps say that even then, he was speaking out for not just himself but the kids as well.

I wonder if he has had the kids evaluated by a family counselor who could testify that taping has affected them and that it's in their best interest to stop.

Even if it is about money, it's a step in the right direction to help these kids have a more normal, private life.

Huh said...

Thank goodness! Finally! To be honest, I don't care why Jon did it. Whether it was for revenge or a power play or whatever, it doesn't matter to me. At least it gets those kids are off the air. All I know is I love that new lawyer of Jon's!

Doris said...

Go Jon! Go Jon's Lawyer!

I highly suspect that Jon's erratic behavior in the past was due to a feeling of hopelessness concerning his and his kids rights.

He had an ineffective lawyer and it appeared as if the witch was holding all the cards...now that he has a good lawyer....the witch is gonna end up under the house!

Watch for witch melt down!

I hope those children have to never see another camera in their lifetime.

And unfortunately in the end, they'll (the kids) probably walk away with very little. The lawyers are going to suck the well dry.

Sources connected with the production of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" "Kate Plus 8" -- tell TMZ all the hoo-hah has to do with $$$.

Sources on both sides tell us Jon Gosselin has been asking for his exit papers from the show for several months. Production sources say they were willing to continue giving Jon a full paycheck and not put him on the show, but there was one string attached -- that he couldn't do any other show without the permission of TLC. BTW, that's a standard condition in TV-land.

Production sources say Jon's lawyer was demanding that TLC let Jon do any show he wanted but TLC wouldn't budge. Production sources say Jon's lawyer then threatened to shut down production by claiming the show wasn't good for the kids, and that's just what happened.

But sources connected with Jon tell us Jon had been complaining for months about his kids being on the show and that the kids themselves were complaining. These sources say Jon was blindsided when TLC released a statement that the show would be called "Kate Plus 8" and that the result would be that the kids would have to be on camera a lot more.

This would apparently also shoot down his proposed "single Dad" show as well. Get the kids off the air and do a once a year update special and let them play and grow up in peace.

The thing about these two that irritated me most is the first words out of their mouths were always "We are doing this for the kids", which they clearly weren't.

Fame is a seductive mistress and I don't begrudge them the opportunity to pursue their "careers" as "celebrities" as long as the kids aren't involved and they stop saying that they are doing all of this for their kids - they aren't. Everyone is entitled to a career of their choice so let Kate have her talk show and let Jon have his show, just leave the kids out of it.

They both need to disappear and how sad is it that a lot of this money that is being earned "for the kids" will now go to attorneys?

Thrilled. TLC is looking sloppy right now. How could they overlook the necessary child labor permits, filming permits and compensating the kids individually? They need to fire their lawyers for overlooking these things.

TLC shouldn't have slammed Jon in their statement. Jon is coming off as the concerned father protecting his kids. TLC looks like the bad guy insulting him. Bad move.

My question is whether or not TLC will have to fork over more money for the kids or if Jon and Kate have to use their own earnings from the show.

I wonder when Kate will start blaming TLC? It might be a good PR move for her.

It is better late than never. The kids win is this ends the show. That's all that's all that really matters. But why didn't he do this months ago when everyone was begging him to do the right thing? It makes me angry to know that this is not so much about his children's welfare but that precious money he and Kate worship. These children deserve better than what they got for parents.

Huh said...

I don't know why, but this made me laugh! If you go to the CBS site to look at the story (I know, I haven't been clicking on Gosselin stories for a long time, but this was such happy news, I couldn't resist), at the bottom there's this:

"Recommended Stories"
"Jon Gosselin to "Guest Star" on "Plus 8""
"Boy: Mom Kept Me in Closet for 4 1/2 Years"
"Gosselins on TV: `Kate Plus Eight`"

After Shoka and Nala's extensive prison, er, I mean, crate time, here's hoping Kate doesn't get any other ideas...

Anna said...

They should have stopped taping when the divorce was announced so that they could work on their family without cameras present. No way should TLC kept filming when they are going through something personal like this. I'm glad they are halting it.
BUT-do you think TLC likes this b/c it gets them off the hook for producing more shows and looking bad in front of the press. They bash Jon all the time to make him look bad. They put out press reports to People about him that talk negatively but kiss up to Kate...but this halt is probably waht TLC wanted as well. Unfortunately all that has happened has probably already been carefully scripted-even though this is supposed to be reality. There really are lines and scripts for what takes place.
I hope the kids enjoy some alone time away from cameras. To focus on school and being a kid.
BUt I can guarantee you, Kate will be out shopping a lot more at Target and going to the post office more so she can get her camera fix. She lives off the camera and won't know what to do with herself without a camera documenting her every day life.

I also was thinking about the little kids and how they only put them in Jr Kind this year, even though they are old enough for full time Kindergarten. They did that b/c they need them for filming. If they went 5 days a week, Katie wouldn't be able to have them film as much. She had to find some way to "keep them little" and out of school so they could film. If filming does indeed stop on the kids forever, I bet Kate will change them to full time kindergarten if possible.

SoozBC said...

So now Michael Lohan is saying Jon is doing all this to get out of his TLC contract so he can do the Divorced Dads reality show. And I suspect that everyone will howl that Jon is being selfish and only interested in himself.

I have a different view. Divorced Dads may be an unappealing idea for a TV show; however, if it is only Jon that will be filmed (and not the 8 kids), then really isn't Jon doing what all of us want him to do anyway:
1. get the kids off TV and back to a normal childhood
2. get himself a job that can support himself and his kids

This is just the same as Kate getting her own 'organic food' show. I may have no interest in watching either one, but if these two parents can get their own shows, featuring just them, and it provides an income to support their kids, then so be it. Just get the kids off TV, out of the limelight and back to having some semblance of a normal childhood.

I'm no lawyer but it seems to me that those "I's should be dotted" by the production company, not by the "stars" themselves. TLC should have a legal department and
a production department that take care of all that. Neither Jon nor Kate should be held responsible for paperwork not being filed for this show.

Now, for being lousy parents and for being self-absorbed, yes. If there were charges I could file for those, I might consider it.

**************

Very good point. TLC can't say everything's been fine with the family when they just announced Jon wouldn't be working with them anymore because he didn't want to do the show anymore. They can't claim this is an out of the blue thing, or that Jon has been acting erratically. He's been talking about wanting to leave the show for months, and they've been pushing him out the door. They can't suddenly say filming with him has been going great.

Now him talking about wanting the kids to stop working is new, as far as we know. We don't know what's been going on behind the scenes. There was a poster here a couple weeks ago who said they met Jon at an event, and he was talking about how he couldn't wait for the kids to be stopped filming. Maybe it's just something that's been brewing for a while, and finding out the kids would be filmed even more for "Kate Plus 8" was the last straw.

Whatever Jon's motives, TLC is looking pretty bad for publically criticizing the children's father and trying to justify filming them. This is why I refuse to watch anything on TLC anymore. They disgust me more than Jon or Kate ever have.

Ava Rose said...

Jon couldn't do this months ago:
- he was an emotional wreck fr. the media hype and divorce. Shock fr. what Kate, TLC, and her PR team have pulled on him
- had a crappy lawyer
- still bound and under contract to TLC; therefore he could not speak of ill of the network, complain of the laws, etc.. now that he is "fired", he has more rights than he did before.

now that I think about it...the timing couldn't be better:
- he's a stronger man now (crap from the world and media can build you to be very strong)
- he's got a kick a$$ layer who seems very very good
- he's not under contract anymore

JMO, but Kate might be between a rock and a hard place on that issue. Longer days of school = more free time for her. But, are her kids ready for full Kindergarten? I don't think so.
They can barely feed themselves with their fingers, much less use utensils. They need some speech therapy. There is probably more that they need before they are ready to jump into full day K.

For one, they may need to go through a TLC detox program. That's heavy stuff for 5 year olds.

And unfortunately in the end, they'll (the kids) probably walk away with very little. The lawyers are going to suck the well dry.

*************************

I'm actually seeing this as the chance for the kids to FINALLY get what they deserve. I posted a variation of this on another GWOP topic, but in a nutshell:

Jon's new lawyer is claiming TLC violated PA child labor laws by failing to get the kids work permits (this is a law in PA -- I live here and my kids model -- the permits are required for every job they do). This will surely open the Pandora's box of "were the children actually working???" TLC will claim permits were not needed since the kids weren't working, but just being filmed doing their normal lives (coughcoughbullshit). J&K have claimed on numerous episodes that the show is "their job." Let the debate begin.

Once it's determined that the kids have in fact been working for the past 3-4 years, this will beg the question: WHERE IS THE KIDS' MONEY???????

If TLC employed the kids for the show, they owe them money. Period. And this money can't be used to fund the parents' lawyers if it belongs to the kids.

This would apparently also shoot down his proposed "single Dad" show as well. Get the kids off the air and do a once a year update special and let them play and grow up in peace.

Why? I would be surprised if the kids were going to be on that show.

My head is spinning that, after all of these years, NOT ONE RED CENT was negotiated for the kids. All they will be left with are 2 parents that hate each other and don't want them, and therapy bills they won't be able to afford.

THEY ARE BOTH SUCH MORONS!

This is a mess. It is about to get messier. I am not sure this has anything to do with the safety of Jon's kids. Jon if you remember never wanted to do another show. Kate pushed him into it. I think Jon just wants the show to stop so he can do his own thing. TLC is a corporation....there is no human feelings in that monster...it just wants to generate revenue.

Jon is doing the right thing (even if it is probably for the wrong reasons). They need to STOP filming these children. Jon and Kate can do whatever they want, as long as people will watch them (which I don't personally understand) but these poor children never had a say in ANY of this!!

Reality Bites said...

Please do not think that TLC just this week decided to rename the show. I can pretty much bet my house that this has been in the works ever since the separation. Why is Jon the worse of the two? Kate's PR people were just better than his. The show is already tanking and it is just a matter of time before it goes away. Stopping production now just guarantees that the kids can try to deal with their parents not being together anymore. There is no longer an appeal. Sure it was cute when they were babies and toddlers but they are no different than any other 5 yo's out there. Kate is delusional and selfish. It stopped being about the kids a LONG time ago

chesterctymom said...

Like some of the other posters, it doesn't really matter what Jon's motivation is (although I do believe he is looking out for his kids). Change and growth are an important part of life...and it's refreshing to see that the kids have someone in their corner who can advocate. I hope that all of the money earned by the kids was put into proper trusts for the Gosselin 8!

By the way Jon, can you have Khate put a sweater on the kids when she drops them off in the morning. All the pics show them in short sleeves while Khate is in long pants and sweater. It was 45 degrees this morning...

Could it be that jon had to wait till TLC gave him the boot to do this? Possibly for legal reasons? I do question his motives but don't know much about legal issues that might have influenced things.

Sources on both sides tell us Jon Gosselin has been asking for his exit papers from the show for several months. Production sources say they were willing to continue giving Jon a full paycheck and not put him on the show, but there was one string attached -- that he couldn't do any other show without the permission of TLC.
============

don't care, never believed a word TLC has ever said & am not going to start now. They may want to start watching what they say about Jon, I believe that lawyer will take them to town for any of it. Yay Hellar!!!

He is coming forward now, after several years on the air, to put the network on blast, claiming that not only have they been working without the proper permits required by Pennsylvania Child Labor Law, but also, that for the last four years, the children have not been compensated!"
================

Is it me or does this sound like, not only have they ran over TLC several times with the bus, but that they're going to be going after them for more cash? The Children have not been compensated!!

Can't See Sheep said...

Couldn't he be in trouble for not getting permits, etc, just as much as TLC? Couldn't he be opening himself up to a barrage of accusations and counterlawsuits? Child abuse accusations?
================

I'm willing to be he understands all this, that he's going to be in for a very rough ride, but two things,

1. the lawyer probably made sure he's aware of this & they no doubt have a plan to deal with it, ala temporary insanity or some such.

2. He's probably looked around, noticed he's survived everything so far over the past 10 years & last several months & said what they hell, I'll survive this too.

Maybe Aunt Jodi & Uncle Kevin will forgive John for what he said, or at least over look it for the meantime, come forward now & do what's right in being their for the kids now & argue later if they still feel like it.

Thrilled. TLC is looking sloppy right now. How could they overlook the necessary child labor permits, filming permits and compensating the kids individually? They need to fire their lawyers for overlooking these things.

*************************

Like Jon and Kate, TLC will claim that the permits weren't needed because the kids *weren't* actually working. We all know the show is a documentary afterall! (coughcoughbullshit)

I'm sure this was all strategic on their part. If you have the permits and compensate the kids directly, you have to abide by child labor laws. This would have put a major crimp in their production schedule, as they'd have to limit the hours/days the kids could be filmed, etc.

Oh, I can't wait til this little lie blows up in all their faces.

TLC will probably grudgingly agree to release Jon from his contract, and find some way to keep filming the kids with Kate's permission. But Jon's manager said that TLC doesn't have work permits for the kids or pay them salaries.

It's out there.

If Jon doesn't pursue this legally, it could get swept under the rug again, a la the PA Child Labor Dept Investigation. I really hope he and Heller are sincere. As I stated before, I believe they've counted the cost, and are going for it.

Only time will tell if its "for the children."

This COULD be the beginning of the end of children in reality tv shows.

Jon might be a slim hope, but he's the best we've got right now.

Of course they filmed without incident! Did TLC expect Jon to throw a rant for them to film? It looks like the new lawyer used the opportunity of the show's change as an escape clause for the kids. Who's fault announcing a new show without the approval of both parents, TLC?

MEgirl said...

I am among the ranks of people who don't care WHY this is happening, but just glad that it's actually, finally happening.

If Kate/TLC fights Jon on this (they have to) they could end up looking really bad. Trying to force the kids to do anything without both parents permission is a bad move. (Even if it will turn out be technically legal to continue filming without Jon's support.) There's no way around that-- they can spin this however they want, paint Jon as greedy, selfish and manipulative, but the bottom line is: without support from both parents, doing the show will seem really, really skeezy.

Also, Jon is validating what so many of the media and public have been saying for years--the show is bad for the children. They'll agree with him no matter how much they hate him.

I think Jon will this war. Either by winning outright with TLC conceding, or he'll win public support, which will end with the same result.

Good for the kids, bad for the parents. Which is okay by my book.

The optimist in me says that Jon is finally realizing what's best for his kids and standing up for them, but the cynic in me says that this is really about money. Is Jon perhaps hoping that TLC will pay him to allow filming to continue?

Earlier this year, as the marriage was crumbling, I had high hopes that Jon would try to end the filming of his children. Instead, he continued it and showed just how important money and living the high life meant to him. Why the change of heart now? Regardless of Jon's motives, I am glad that the filming of the children has been halted.

I do think there is something morally repugnant about either Jon or Kate Gosselin now establishing television careers without their 8 children - if it were not for the exploitation of these children, no one would be offering them a high-profile TV slot.

Kate (and Jon) Gosselin manipulated medical science to create a litter of children that they then exploited for fame and money. Handing them television gigs rewards them for that behavior. In effect, they become role models for others. The Gosselins and society are both to blame.

PizzaPie said...

Y'all the day that TLC announced that J&K+8 will be K+8 is the SAME DAY that Jon sent papers to TLC to stop the show.

I don't think TLC cutting him from the show is the reason why Jon wants it stopped. TLC just has smarter lawyers that are spinning things.

We need to remember to look at the facts and not the sensational headlines to the articles.

readerlady said...

If Jon "remains under exclusive contract to TLC" then he is still being paid, so I highly doubt this is a decision based on money. I think he either has decided enough is enough for the kids, he's been working behind the scenes to get the kids off for some time, or it's a tactic to force Khate to negotiate in good faith instead of dismissing his wishes out of hand as she has always done until now. If he hits her where it hurts, in her wallet, she'll have to agree to it. Jon is not as stupid as some people like to make him out to be, and I don't think he is a masochist, so I highly doubt that he wants a reconciliation with Khate. I do think that one of his objectives is to see that he gets his fair share of the marital property, and that is only right. We all know who has done most of the work of raising the children up until now.

I read a few of the comments on TMZ and perezhilton. I can't believe how many people on are Team Kate. She's really pulled the wool over their eyes. Yes, Jon is an immature idiot and his timing sucks. He should have laid low during the divorce and not acted like a freshman at college, finally out of mommy and daddy's control. But he does care about the children. It's obvious from watching the show. I don't blame him for acting the way he has been. Kate has treated him so horribly.

Kate is also an immature idiot, but she doesn't care about the kids at all. This whole mess started because of her. It seems so obvious that she's only acting for the cameras. How can people believe her I'm-the-victim crap?

I think Jon just lost his way a little bit. The same thing happened to me in my late 20s when I got out of an oppressive relationship. Then someone came along, in Jon's case Attorney Heller, who is truly an advocate for Jon and can put a plan in place so that Jon and the kids have a safe, secure future. Jon was incapable of doing so for himself. Heller needed to take the helm, nothing wrong with that. I like Heller and am thrilled to see someone with power rallying for the kids' protection. Clearly he has laid out all the possible scenarios for Jon and Jon has seen the light. Jon is the type of guy that needs someone to take charge and help push him in the right direction. Heller is really on the ball. I commend him for taking on TLC and their immoral shenanigans.

I believe Jon has hooked up with a great lawyer who has hopefully made him see sense. Maybe the penny has finally dropped that getting those poor kids off the air could be the smartest thing he will ever do in his life. I betting that his lawyer gave him a good talking to, something I'm sure his father would have done had he been alive.

I know he went off the rails somewhat after they split but who wouldn't. I recently divorced my narcissistic husband and relief is amazing. You literally have to start from scratch though finding your old self again and it's quite overwhelming sometimes. I went a little crazy after I escaped the control but now I have finally got the real ME back and have settled down. I believe thats where Jon is now.

I really hope this spells the end of the show. Whether it's out of spite, clarity of mind or some other reason if it gets these kids off the air then I'm all for it. As long as those children get a "normal" life back then I don't care by what means it's done.

Maybe Jodi and Kevin were never upset about what Jon said because they knew the pressure he was under from TLC. Maybe that's why they went public when they did. I'm sure there's so much more that has been going on behind the scenes. They were willing to risk being criticized to do what they knew was right and to speak when they knew Jon couldn't.

golden bear said...

I remember him saying during the taping of the last show of last season that he wanted the show to end. There was conflict because Kate wanted to continue

Then Kate files for divorce.

Then, TLC took him off the show and limits his ability to pursue other contracts or make his own money.

Now this annoucement today. My personal opinion...while he was part of the show he felt he had some say over production and assets. Now with him being cut out, he has no say over production or assets (Kate can film more than he would like and who knows how the money will be spent.)and he has no ability to pursue his own show without the children.

With this new development, I hope it means that the show will end and if not, the money will go to the children and that labor laws are enforced. But I really do hope the show will end.

This was copied from OMG.

Jon has joint custody of the kids and is able to make decisions about their welfare, his lawyer says.
"Jon realized his family was like a trainwreck, so he decided to put the brakes on the divorce and on the show ... because if he didn't, the family would be in a mortal accident ... the victims of a trainwreck," his lawyer tells Entertainment Tonight.
His attorney also tells ET the original agreement between TLC and the Gosselin family "may very well be 'null and void' and unenforceable." But he claims that TLC never secured the special permits required by Pennsylvania Child Labor Law as a "prerequisite" for the Gosselin children's involvement in Jon and Kate Plus 8.

Heller also claims that TLC "failed to designate the appropriate compensation to be allocated to the children" and "it may ultimately be determined that TLC has not provided for compensation for the eight children over the past four years."

wolfpuppy1998 said...

I am willing to give Jon the benefit of the doubt. Instead of thinking this is revenge for fazing him out of the show maybe he just found a loophole where with the change in title and structure of the show he found a way to get out of the contract and jumped on it?

Exactly! I hope those kids can get a lawyer or guardian who will investigate TLC and get them off tv and all the back-pay they deserve. They've been like child slave labor their whole lives. It's sickening.

Hopefully this will create stricter laws on using children in reality shows. The whole debate about filming the kids while they do what they normally do is absurd. It's like saying a child who appears in a cereal commercial shouldn't be paid because he likes to eat cereal anyway, and they're just filming him doing what he does every day.

Is it normal for children to randomly say, "On this episode of Jon and Kate plus 8..." Is it normal to go to the zoo twice in one week because you need to do a re-shoot? Is it normal for children to be dragged along on long interviews under hot set lights without water and quietly sit still while their mother talks to cameras and ignores them? Or take two days to be photographed in winter clothes on a hot summer day for a magazine shoot?

Those kids have been working, and working hard! I hope TLC gets what's coming to them for what they've done to those children.

I am just curious. I have read post on here off and on. Has the issue of what will happen to the kids future if the show stops ever been addressed. At least now they are always with one parent. If the show stops both Jon and Kate will have to get jobs in order to support the kids and the kids will end up being watched by a stranger. How is that good? Also, I am curious has the discussion been had on how Jon and Kate can make enough money to support these kids? Jon certainly is not capable of making money to support them. They don't need a fancy house of even romotely the lifestyle they currently have but even a more modest lifestyle is costly with eight children. The show will all it's vices is taking care of a need for these children.

SOrry, it just doesn't seem like anyone is addressing these issues.

In their newly released statement, TLC continues their campaign to discredit Jon. I suspect he has expressed displeasure for some time about the continuation of the show. It explains why he got such a bad edit while Kate was pretty much deified by the network. Sadly,
I'm bracing myself for an even nastier smear campaign against Jon when TLC lawyers get a hold of this.

I truly hope this is the end of the show. I also hope that Jon stays firm and doesn't change his mind for any reason or any amount of money. I really want to believe his heart is in the right place when it comes to his kids.

Kate Gosselin called out her soon-to-be ex-husband and his actions, releasing a statement on Thursday disputing everything Jon has said as his justification for trying to shut down their reality show.

Kate put out this statement:

"I'm saddened and confused by Jon's public media statements. Jon has never expressed any concerns to me about our children being involved in the show and, in fact, is on the record as saying he believes the show benefits our children and was taping on Friday with the kids. I check in regularly with each of the kids to be sure they want to participate in and continue with the show and will continue to do so. I do the show for my family because I believe it provides us opportunities we wouldn't otherwise have. Jon used to share that belief until as recently as the day the network announced the name change of the show and indicated that Jon would have a lesser role in the show. It appears that Jon's priority is Jon and his interests. My priority remains our children and their well being."

I think Jon wanted this show to stop at the end of last season. Shortly after they signed again for a new season, likely because Kate pushed Jon to agree, then she tells him she's done with the marriage. She needed his cooperation back then to get an extra year. As the kids father, if he'd said no, she'd have no recourse. The role TLC has taken in this marriage and family shows me that they have been interfering a LOT.

I think this is why Jon halted production. They're interfering in his divorce now and encouraging Kate to practice parental alienation with her verbal (and TLC's verbal) slams against Jon. Kate and TLC have been working this way for years. We all saw her talk to the camera people in arguments between her and Jon. He was a third wheel and bullied that way.

Jon is stepping up not because of money but because of what that statement his lawyer made really says - to get Kate to talk with Jon about what is best for their family and kids - and keep TLC out of it. This was the only way.

TLC is angry. Kate is really angry because TLC has been helping her get her way. Jon and his lawyer effectively cut off TLC and Kate at the knees.

She needs to start being a parent instead of a fake celebrity. Jon is pushing for this for his kids. It all makes sense to me. Even Kate's statement today mimics TLC and sounds as if they wrote it for her.

It's bad enough to exploit children. But to interfere in the parents of those 8 children is very very bad form. Jon may have a lot more legal recourse against TLC than ever now. Good for him. I always said he was sabotaging this show on purpose since the split. I think he's not as dumb as many want us to believe. He's actually the only parent looking out for these kids and their upbringing.

Motion? said...

Is this a donedeal? Meaning, the judge rule on it? Motions need to be ruled on.
OR: is TLC just making the decision , based on all this, to halt? So doesn't matter what judge rules...
I am confused.
KHate needed/needs to go her own way anyhow. Sink or swim on her OWN merits (not many), and NO KIDS. So any way you slice it, good news.
I don't really care if the timing looks or is faulty; it is the right thing! If they had CARED about their own kids , this would've been done long ago, and CERTAINLY when the divorce was announced. The fact they did not, an waited for outer events to push them to this-or-that, speaks volumes about BOTH of them as parents of all 8 of those kids.

TLC must be reeling in fear right now because this may put the exploitation of children on all of their shows in the spotlight. If a court upholds Jon's right to keep his children from being filmed, then the public will start questioning other shows, like the Duggars and the Roloffs. It is about time that we engaged in a national conversation over filming the daily lives of children without their informed consent because they are too young to give it. We need to call into question the issues so frequently discussed on GWOP, like proper compensation and college funds for the children. The Duggars and Roloffs are less detestable and distasteful then the Gosselins, but they are also filming the private lives of their children and are they putting aside money for each one of them? The #*^$ is going to hit the fan if this becomes a legal issue. TLC would better serve themselves to try and get Jon back onto the show, and that would show what Jon is really all about. If he went back, we would know that this was all about the money. If he chose to continue legally to halt the filming of the kids, we would know his motives were to protect the children. I'm with everyone else though, I don't care what his motives are if it means that the kids get their privacy back. I am also absolutely disgusted by Kate's claims that she has to support her children, so that is why she continues the show and I despised how the ladies on the View seemed to accept that. What she is trying to do is support a lifestyle of greed and excess, not her kids.

Good job! Jon.

For people who say Jon did it after he got fired, I have to remind you that he couldn't do this before he got fired because he was under a tight contract. He signed a slave contract. He could have gotten sued if he had not obeyed the contract.

Now just like the lawyer said, the contract is no longer void because TLC no longer follows the contract to have Jon in the show. Jon can stop the production.

I had a feeling Jon was trying to get himself fired by acting out. That's the easiest way to get out of a slave contract instead of having lawyers to argue about a tight contract. It could take forever to get out of a contract if it's just lawyers fighting over it.

The kids better not breath loudly tonight. Kate is going to be on rampage. Hopefully the asain nanny is home to care for them right now. She's been there a while, and probably feels like a real mother.

Jon's lawyer needs to actively go after Kate's statement that "our kids are my first priority". She does not want to be home with them, she does not want to raise them, she does not want to spend time with them unless there is help to do the work and her actions to date prove so. Hope I can stay awake for Larry King - unlike Kate I actually have to bathe my kids and brush their teeth and read bedtime stories before I tidy the kitchen, plan for the next day and then call it a night.

I can not find it now, but didn't Hailey's twitter of a few weeks ago mention something about Jon and people would soon feel differently about him or something to that effect? About it coming out? Right around the same time as the change of lawyer?

I wonder if she knew? Has this been in the works for weeks? Personally I think it has you don't take on a giant corporation just bam, out of the blue.

You go, Jon. Why should Kate all of a sudden take control of the show and boot Jon? This is another example of her manipulation.

Frankly, I'd love to see the show end for good, with Jon and Kate having to get regular jobs like the rest of us instead of living off the backs of their kids.
How could Jon afford a penthouse in New York on an IT analyst's salary, or Kate try to manage working the night shift as a nurse while taking care of the eight kids, with no help from what she calls "babysitters"? (To the rest of us they're nannies, Kate. A babysitter is a 16-year-old trying to earn money to buy her prom ticket).

Kate the martyr! Also, she "checks in" regularly with each of the kids. "Check in" tells me she's not the primary caretaker as she would like everyone to believe.

Are there any lawyers out there? How does this work? Jon and Kate each have lawyers and will try to work out custody arrangements and decide what is best for the kids. If Jon is adamant about not wanting the kids to film and Kate is just as adamant about wanting to continue---what happens? Can the courts just side with Kate and let TLC continue on with this nightmare of a show so Kate can rake in more money?
--------------------------------
I'm a lawyer, though I specialize in tax and estate planning and I'm not licensed in Pennsylvania. That little disclaimer aside, here's a little legal insight into what I think is happening!

When it was discussed that the divorce was going to be final at the end of October, that meant that Jon and Kate had a tentative settlement agreement (addressing such issues as child support, alimony, custoday, property, etc...) that would be presented to the judge at a hearing on that date. If approved, the parties would sign the agreement and the divorce would be final.

BUT, either party has the right before that hearing date to change their mind on the settlement agreement, which Jon obviously has. In that case, the sides can try to renegotiate, but if that is not successful either or both parties can file a petition asking for a trial. This is where divorces usually get ugly! In this case, each spouse has their own lawyer (as they do now) and a "guardian ad litem" is appointed for the children. A "guardian ad litem" is a court sanctioned representative who has some kind of background in child matters (where I practice they are lawyers but I'm not sure about different jurisdictions). The divorce then proceeds like a regular trial, with each side calling witnesses, presenting evidence, etc... After each side has had their turn and the guardian ad litem has presented his or her findings and suggestions, the judge will then render a decision as to how the property will be divided, custody, payments between the parties, etc... and in this case whether or not the children can continue taping.

So yes, the judge could side with Kate and TLC, but I think that is unlikely for the following reasons. First, divorce trials are almost always a matter of public record and given public opinion on the matter, it could put the judge's professional future in jeopardy. Second, the guardian ad litem and Jon's team would certainly put on a whole string of experts testifying how bad the show has been for the kids and the family and judges would not be so easily swayed by Kate claiming to know better. Also, judges do not ask children of 5 and 8 what they think should be done, so Kate's claim that the children want to continue taping wouldn't be a worthwhile argument. Finally, divorce decrees and family court orders can be modified at a future date and, knowing this, judges tend to error on the side of caution when making determinations. In other words, even if the judge thought it might not be overly harmful for the children to tape, he or she might be inclined to halt taping for a "cooling off period" and then reassess at a later date.

Just my thoughts!!!

I for one am happy with the news that production and filming of the kids is on hold. However, if I'm not mistaken, today is a "Kate" day, and that means she is at home with the kids, and whatever "meltdown" she is having, without cameras around to document it, is being placed squarely on the shoulders of her innocent kids who had absolutely nothing to do with the contractual agreement their parents made.

I wish I could be home to watch LKL tonight, but I will be doing the "normal everyday mom thing" and attending back-to-school night for 2 of my kids. I look forward to a great recap, and perhaps catching it rerun on the late time. I wont be able to DVR it, as Thursdays are our DVR overdrive night (Bones, Survivor, Fast Forward, Project Runway, etc).

I know Kate cannot be trusted and everything she says is a lie, but I have on occasions believed Jon and what he said about Kate, TLC, and the divorce. Radaronline has Kate's response to Jon:

Kate put out this statement:

"I'm saddened and confused by Jon's public media statements. I have to chime in here about Kate's claim that she 'checks in regularly' with the kids to see if they want to continue the show. If she words her inquiry in the way that I personally heard her explain it last Fall, it qualifies as what survey designers would call a double-barrelled question, and moralists would label a Catch-22. Normal moms like myself call it simply "cruel and insane."

I attended one of Jon and Kate's speaking engagements near my home in PA. It was church-sponsored, but held in a large auditorium. While explaining how the kids felt about doing the show, Kate said, "We consider it our 'Family Job.' We asked the kids if they wanted to do the show and we'd get to be together and see each other every day. Or, mommy and daddy could both go back to work and you'll never see us."

Put that way, what young child would choose the option of never seeing their parents???? I'm sure her inquiries, if she even really makes them, now include threats of no more vacations, nice clothes, etc.

My jaw just dropped to the floor. That was the beginning of the end for me and the Greedlings. When the interviewer announced that they'd be collecting for a love offering, I got up and walked out.

How the Sheeple continue to see her as mother-of-the-year is truly baffling.

Makes perfect sense to me. Jon probably knew he was ticking off the TLC people with his "I don't really want to sit on this couch and recount my day with Kate" look.
He's probably been threatened with
losing his place on the show. So,
now they've dropped him, and it's time to find those legal loopholes
that automatically come when the product changes. J&K+8 --> K+8 -->
loophole city. I bet he's been planning this for some time, and his lawyer told him NOW.

If ANY product (soap powder, cereal, car oil) changes its formula, the legal department has some work to do to cover its flanks. A TV show with 2 acrimonious adults at the helm would certainly require this.

______________

Yes. There are lawyers here. What will happen is that counsel will be appointed for the children. You can probably forget about the nice joint custody consent order they were working on- someone will probably get sole after this. They have shown they can NOT work together to make major decisions concerning the kids.

The court will order an evaluation of the kids and parents. This will focus not just on who is the best custodian but what effect the filming and lack of privacy is having on the kids. The court evaluator will present his or her findings to the court and counsel for both sides, as well as the kids, will ask questions.

The judge will decide.

Options for the K+8 future could include which kids are allowed to be filmed and which are suffering negatively from the whole ordeal and can't be part of the filming. The court could set limits on the scope of the invasion of privacy and the hours of filming allowed.

Options for custody of the kids are pretty obvious. I think the parents-cycling-in-and-out-of-the-house situation is going to end very soon. Are we sure the house is in their names and not the TLC entity (I forget the name)? Do they own the house outright or owe a fortune on it?

It would be possible for one parent to have sole custody and for the other to have very liberal, set access. I just don't think joint is going to work any more.

I am confused. Why would Jon need to be out of TLC's contract to do his own show (if that is even true, which it probably isn't)? Kate wasn't out of her contract and she has already filmed a pilot and has been on every talk show imagineable. How could hers not be a breach of contract, but his is?
"It appears that Jon's priority is Jon and his interests. My priority remains our children and their well being." THE LIES CONTINUE. The woman is deluded - her kids are not with her when she does all these 'interest' things, they are back at home with their father or their caretaking crew! Lord forgive me, but I cannot stand that woman. May she go down in flames.

It souds like Jon's lawyer has the pair of balls necessary to keep Jon in line as well as help Jon stand up to Kate.

I read the article on People, where it stated that The letter suspending the show was issued the same day the announcement was made regarding the change.

I could be wrong here, but my feeling or maybe it is just my hope that someone is showing a bit of responsibility as a parent, is that Jon was maybe hoping with sinking ratings the show would be dropped and therefore no need to take a legal route. He likely knew about the route the show was possibly taking with "Kate+8" and maybe hoped she'd get something else that didn't involve the kids or maybe he tried to address issues about the kids in the renamed show and how often they'd be filmed or whatever.

The fact that the letter came out the same day suggests he and his lawyer prepared for this if Kate continued to pursue that course of action. Kate claims Jon was happily filming several days before, and he may have been filming, but his lawyer likely told him play nice and don't the cards we're holding.

Whatever the reasons I'm so happy and sure everyone else here is as well, certainly a victory and a step in the right direction for those children.

Jon said his children have been complaining about filming and maybe he finally sees what everyone else does, how miserable those children always look on film or in pictures. Even if he doesn't, his lawyer does and is smart enough to know what's best here.

Woo Hoo!

Hopefully, the attorney will go further and make all 8 children equal participants in the financial windfall of the divorce.

Without the children, J and K would have no millions and the children should be equal recipients, if not more, of the marital assets.

These should be kept for them until they are of age for their educations or whatever else they want the money for.

They are even entitled to a lifetime of mani/pedicures like they have provided for their mother.

These children should not exist for the pleasure of voyeuristic tv viewers and they should be allowed to live, NORMAL, KIDS' LIVES.

The mansion and all the trappings, vehicles, etc. should be liquidated and the assets split ten ways. The parents should each get a modest house that will accommodate all the children and then they should get jobs.

Go Away Gosselins! said...

*********************************

It aggravates me to no end that people think that raising 8 children cannot be done by normal, everyday parents who have "regular" jobs. Jon and Kate are not the only ones who have 8 kids in this country. I do not understand how other families with 8 or more kids make it, but Jon and Kate can't without tons of money.

Is it difficult to raise 8 kids with normal, everyday jobs - yes!

Would Jon and Kate need to give up their extravagant lifestyle and the kids extravagant lifestyle - yes!

Would the kids not be able to go on vacations regularly and get the latest name brand clothes, toys, etc. - yes!

SO WHAT?!? Jon and Kate should've thought about how hard it is to raise 8 children before they decided to have them.

The children will not be any more damaged if they stop the show and their family doesn't have the income of several thousand dollars a week coming in. In fact, the children will be better off. As of right now, they are being raised by nannies with a camera in their faces all the time. At least without all the money, they will grow up to be citizens who understand the value of a dollar and hard work.

My point is - the kids can survive without all the money. There may be disappointments but they can't always get what they want and in the long run it will benefit them to not be in the public eye.

I am so sick of the excuse that the show needs to continue to "support the kids"!!

Jon and Kate have enough money to support those kids right now and I know a family with 9 kids who only has one working parent on a middle class income and they make it. Why is it that Jon and Kate can't....greed and selfishness maybe?!?

Meems said...

Bittersweet for me. At least when they were being filmed we could see what kind of shape they were in. Kate will probably lay a guilt trip on the kids--that they are going to starve without the paycheck, etc., that if only they hadn't complained to their father, as I am sure they did as they are more comfortable with him. From the last few episodes I have seen it is obvious that they need counseling. Hopefully he will see to that as well as Kate apparently does not believe in counseling. I am glad to see that he has a good attorney, as Kate was really sticking it to him controlling everything with TLC and the divorce. I think finally someone is looking out for the kids. Just because the KIDS want to participate and continue with the show, doesnt mean that it is in their emotional, physical, and mental best interests to do so! We are talking about children who require sub titles to be understood and have temper tantrums over what shoes they do or dont want to wear. But yet, are of the intellectual capacity to comprehend the terms and conditions that come with participating in a reality tv show?
Additionally, even in light of the kids supposed approval, per Kate, in continuing the show, as a parent, Jon has every right to over ride his MINOR CHILD'S judgement!

His attorney also tells ET the original agreement between TLC and the Gosselin family "may very well be 'null and void' and unenforceable." Heller also claims that TLC "failed to designate the appropriate compensation to be allocated to the children" and "it may ultimately be determined that TLC has not provided for compensation for the eight children over the past four years.

Whatever the motivation, this is good news for the kids, in every way. This is one smart lawyer; he's pulling out all the legal stops that everyone has been sidestepping. These issues should have been addressed long ago.

I agree with other posters. I think this has been in the works since Jon got the new lawyer (love that lawyer!) weeks ago, and Kate and TLC are trying to spin in like he's just mad he's off the show.

Because what are the chances this happens the same day he's on Larry King? How long ago would that have to be scheduled? It sounds more like Jon planned to do this on the same day as his interview, and that was announced long before today. This isn't something that Jon just suddenly decided today or yesterday.

For those who dont know and think Jon is doing this cause he is pissed about being cut from the show/money train..you probably didnt read what I read which stated that dispite the shows name change and the minimizing role he would play he is still under contract. He would still get a paycheck.(which is pretty much like TLC buying his kids from him)

If TLC let him go completely than he would lose a paycheck and he wouldnt be allowed to be on any other TV show. He wouldnt be able to maintain is current life style. Which who knows maybe he would be alright with that. So Jon can go get a real job right? Well why should Kate and TLC get everything and be allowed to continue the exploitation?

I may be wrong but I choose to believe that Jon really does want the show over for the sake of his children and himself. I think its become clear to him that TLC doesnt give a rats ass about the Gosselin family and has destroyed them all for the sake of money.

Now its time for revenge and it just so happens that revenge is also the right thing: Man up and save your kids from these money hungry, child exploiting, jerks.

Sure he was sold for years that at the expense of exploiting his children they had vacations, name brand clothing, tummy tucks, hair plugs and were able to do things for the children they couldnt without the show. But look where it got them?

This could even be the reason for wanting to halt the divorce, to work on things without the 3rd party(TLC) involved. I hope that these are Jon motivations.

I love how TLC lives and functions in the same delusional world as Khate and the way they continue to feed off of one another. The contradictions they have made and continue to make are astounding, so much so that I've lost track. Although it doesn't really matter, I just wait for the day when I no longer have to hear Khate's irritating voice and TLC's likewise bs.

Kate is a liar said...

"I check in regularly with each of the kids to be sure they want to participate in and continue with the show ..."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Because they are afraid you would roll your eyes and say something mean to them if they say "NO". Even worse, they might be afraid you would yell at them if they don't work.

Kate, you have horrible tantrum when you don't get your way and you yell at people. It's on the record. Kids are doing things to please their parents or protect themselves from being yelled at.

Jon used to share that belief until as recently as the day the network announced the name change of the show and indicated that Jon would have a lesser role in the show.
********
I read yesterday (wish I'd kept the link) that Jon's request for a 90 halt in divorce proceedings was sent to Kate in a letter before the announcement was made. I'm sure that's typical. However, she DENIED receiving the letter.

Could Kate be lying AGAIN?

Khate said she checks in regularly with each of her kids to make sure they want to film. Wow - Mother of the Year! This woman could not even handle 2 dogs. Yeah Jon! Whatever the reason is, filming has stopped! The train is now officially wrecked!

From the original post:

Gosselin and his lawyer tell "The Insider' exclusively that Jon and Kate both own the property where the show is being shot. Jon has joint custody of the kids and is able to make decisions about their welfare. He deemed it was not in the best interest of the children's welfare to continue with production of the show."

***

Good, work, Mr. Attorney. The issue of the welfare of the children has now been legally raised, and will be addressed in court. This is a very, very good thing, and now that it's been made part of the record, it's going to be far more difficult for TLC or anyone else to defend the filming.

Everyone's just managed to skate along so far by avoiding this particular elephant. No more.

These sources say Jon was blindsided when TLC released a statement that the show would be called "Kate Plus 8" and that the result would be that the kids would have to be on camera a lot more...

Is this giving Jon too much credit or is it possible that while he was under contract he couldn't do anything at all. Or say anything against the show or TLC. So he essentially did everything he could think of to turn off TLC and get them to fire him.

So that he could do exactly this.

Oh the dilemna Kate must be in. She knows that Jon KNOWS everything and she knows that it is about ready to hit the fan!

My thoughts on the whole drama is that Kate has an issue telling where her butt hole and lips begin because both of them shoot out crap!

I think it is great what Jon has done. But, why is he hanging with "Girls Gone Wild" Joe Francis while this is unfolding? Inside Edition has a video of them leaving a club with 2 blondes in LA last night. Is this guy an idiot? I think the show should stop for the kids too, but, it does seem like he is just thinking of himself still.

I'm not on either side for Jon or Kate -- I pray for those poor children being trapped. Stop the show and cancel it, is what I say!!

Email TLC and complain:

http://extweb.discovery.com/viewerrelations

The rights of the children are being violated. Strangely enough, I think Jon is right to demand no more filming. Sell the 1.1 million home, split assets, whoever gets custody, and go into hiding for the sake of the kids. Oh yeah, Kate gets social skills training and meds on how to be nice to a spouse. Jon needs to embrace his inner teenager and grow up. This is ridiculous.

who could have imagined a family oriented show has turned into a modern day circus....By the time this is resolved...the kids and parents will not be talking to one another.

I could personally care less if Jon is doing this out of spite, or not. He is putting an end to those children being exploited. Of course Kate is "saddened" - she doesn't want to think about having to get a REAL job! HAHAHA!

Jon, takes your kids and walk now. Ignore TLC and media outlets trying to smear your name.

It might be hard to be a punching bag now. But you must do it. 5 years from now when twins are teens and 10 years from now when tups are teens, they will become fair games. The media will ridicule them, every mistake they make, just like how they are doing to all the teen stars.

Your kids will not be able to have a normal life and concentrate on school. They might not have a future in showbiz either. The competition is fierce in showbiz and the tide turns, they might become "HAS BEEN" at 13 years old. They will be stuck, no future in showbiz and no privacy in real life. Do you really want to see that?

Interesting, on The View this morning the ladies were discussing this.

They felt it was sour grapes: Jon got fired, Jon got mad, therefore halted the filming.

NOW the ladies of The View are indeed talking about the exploitation of the kids!

Too bad they had not been more forthright when Kate was right there with them.

Anyway, YAHOO!!

Jon seems to be receiving more attention with his new legal counsel.

Hopefully, Jon will come across as an intelligent adult now.

It will be very interesting to see this on Larry King tonight. I would hope his lawyer is with him, so his words might actually make sense tonight.

I think we need to face the truth that Jon is not smart enough to figure any of this out by himself. I would venture a guess Jon never even read his contracts. This whole scene is the brainchild of Jon's new legal team and I say AMEN. Jon is clearly out of control, but the thing is it may not look good for him in court to show that he has been so lost and suddenly he came to his senses. Court would focus on him being lost, since he is the father of 8 young ones.

Erin, where did you see that? I checked their website and others like that and can't find the event you are speaking of.

I'd feel better about this if Jon was really doing this for the sake of the kids, but he's obviously not. If he cared about the children, it wouldn't have taken him being thrown off the show to take a stand.

Regardless, I am THRILLED that this has happened. For whatever reason, at least the good of the children is being followed....for now. I'm sure that Jon, Kate, and the TLC crew will patch things up, pay Jon off, and the show will continue just as they all planned. Kids in the show and all.

I love that this is finally some negative publicity for dear Katie and TLC because regardless of how they attempt to spin this, the fact still remains that they are exploiting these children when Jon is trying to get the show stopped.

If only Jon was doing it for the right reasons, but at least it's happening.

Of course she checks in with the kids and asks them if they want to continue. I'm sure she asks them this while sitting in her plastic white chair, holding a wooden spoon, while texting on her pink phone for her assistant to bring her some Starbucks!
