Mission Accomplished?

The Gosselin Family Mission Statement

As featured in Games Gosselins Play
Season 3, Episode 24

-----------------------------------------

We the people of the Gosselin Family
do dedicate ourselves to
telling others about God's love.

We establish these two basic principles:
1. Love and honor God and others.
2. Be thankful for our blessings.

"The one that I knew had to be on there was we have always said,
although it hasn't been on a mission statement, we will never put
other things before our family. That is very important to us."

- Kate Gosselin, 04/21/2008

"To read that every so often as a family is what we plan
to do just to remind us of what we need to be doing."

Wow - good one, mods. It should be interesting. Much of what Kate does lately seems to be in response to criticism from GWoP - I wonder if we'll be seeing the return of the mission statement now?

what game did she invent this dreck for?

i know.....liar,liar by kate gosselin.

a fun exciting and exhausting game the whole family can play! after drawing cards, you have to determine if the item being read is true or not (hint: they are all BS). no one wins except the parents. for ages 5-9.

coming soon to a toys-r-us near you (watch out for the gosselins during the holidays!)

This episode was the nail in the coffin for me. In this episode Kate ALLEGES that they teach their children the importance of giving back (HA) and "paying it forward" (DOUBLE HA) because they were ONCE (I swears she says ONCE) the recipients of kindness.

The volunteers, the freebies, the contributions, etc., etc. are those HUNDREDS of instances of kindness?

Great post, how true. Kate is so obsessed with impressions which, ironically, is what is causing her the most grief right now. If only she could take a step back, read her own for gosh sakin' mission statement, and think for a minute all would be better.

But you have to remember, and Kate lives on Planet Narcissius, so she believes in her own sick mind that what she is doing IS for her family. So sad.

Wait... So have they not sold the house yet? I'm just curious.

Was it supposed to be "Love and honor God ABOVE ALL OTHERS"?

Because if it truly is "Love and honor God AND OTHERS," then maybe "others" include "money" and "fame." And then Kate would be perfectly in keeping with the family mission.

--------

It was sad when they wrote it, too. It was sooo obvious that J&K had no idea what they were supposed to accomplish, and having the twins read it out loud to the six rugrats was absolute idiocy. I've never watched the show regularly, but I caught that one and found it depressing and FAKE

What a Sham said...

I wonder what John had to say about the mission statement at that time -- is he quoted? Just curious to see a comparison.

You know, I briefly watched the episode last night that came on after their own bike episode. The one where they drive down south? I never saw it before and when they mentioned that they wanted to look or property on the way down, that peaked my interest.

On the interview couch, they said something about how they wanted to move down there for warmer weather, wanted a bigger house, etc. They also seemed on the same page with this topic -- Kate was not yelling and keeping her butting in to a minimum. And Jon seemed animated by the idea.

Obviously, they didn't move down south -- I wonder why? If they were both so excited about it before, why did the move into that $1 mill. home?

My theory: Buying the home down south would be the final step in ending the show. But "someone" changed and viola, now they're in the situation they're in now. Kate got sucked up in the dollar signs.

ScarySkierNewJersey said...

Ah...the down fall of pimping out your family....er um uh...sorry...perserving your childrens memories on FILM! You take those early episodes and just about everything she or Jon says is totally different these days. The tummy tuck where she gets home and tells her kids "she will never WANTS to leave them for a long period of time again". I guess the fact that she has a career now means she HAS to leave them. They statements of struggling to make ends meet but as long as God provides for their needs they are happy. God and TLC and the many "gifters" that have provided trips, clothes, toys, motorcycles, crooked houses etc etc. The fake vow renewal, when at the time of shooting they were having issues, just to get to Hawaii via San Diego. It's all on film and these two mensa candidates just keep on digging holes for themselves.

The sad part is the example they are setting for the kids. The way they grouse at each other and utter lack of respect one shows to the other, the "stretching of the truth", Jon not working and may now be living outside the home and zipping around town in a sports car or motorcycle using words like "crib, sick and whacked." The vacations apart and Jon being with babe and Kate with Mr Gray. The just asking for things and within a few weeks they appear in your yard or at your front door. The nanny, the chef the assorted gofers assigned to Kate. Yeah, these kids are living in the real world.

I am loving that things they have said int he past are coming back to bite them, but the fact is, the show is still on the air, so the message is not getting through to the right people. We have to keep hammering away.

NoUse4Kate said...

That is laughable almost because neither Jon nor Kate reflect anything at all written within it. Things and money are their god and the kids are nothing more than their avenue to that god.

They are like a poor family that won the lottery and had no common sense at all. They will end up poor and broke again and their family will end up having nothing to do with them. Unfortunately eight kids are having their lives destroyed in the process as well and they don't seem to care. They are truly sad people.

NoUse4Kate said...

To correct my previous post, their family already has nothing to do with them because the master has shut them out. It was her decision, not theirs. Sad, sad, sad

care4the8 said...

Great Post! That definitely went down the drain. But I think that was in the Household Chores episode not the Games episode just to make sure you get it right.

KiSSy said...

Her sense of "family first" is so warped.

What Kate is doing is like saying the only way you can make a living and raise a large family and give them all they could ever dream of is through organized crime...so you're gonna set up a gun running operation...for your kids.

Is it also possible that they're guilty (to a certain degree) of money laundering. Receiving gifts of products or services in exchange for advertising and running the transaction through TLC's books lends itself to a scheme of some sort...at least that's what I think. When the show is done, and Kate keeps all the "goodies" they've had access to because they were used a "props" in the show (think Jon's bike and stuff like that) are taxes going to be paid on those gifts or will it all be given back? (Given back...yeah, right!)

Wonderful comment! I was wondering what their backup plan would be if the network cancelled the program due to lack of viewership?

Does either parent have a plan should this occur, regardless on the status of their relationship?

Or are they expecting everyone else to provide for them?

Not sure if this is the right thread for this post, but I am so disgusted!!

In the next episode, the kids are getting "Crooked Houses". The website for these houses-

http://www.kidscrookedhouse.com/default.aspx-

start at over $1,200!! The deluxe and custom mades START at $5,000!!! Is each child getting their OWN house? I know from the preview, Cara is getting the haunted house, and it looked as if there was at least one other style being installed. Surely they aren't paying for these houses. I would bet they are gifts from the company for free advertising. Except for the first episode this season (the tups birthday), every episode has had some freebie or cross promotion (even Mady and K8's trip to San Diego I bet was paid for by the resort they stayed at).

I started watching the show for the "normal" day to day activites. NOTHING about their lives anymore are ordinary!

also, I noticed the obvious editing in the "lunch" scene last night. On the American Chopper version, they showed K8 being such a witch to the dogs, but on HER show, that part was extremely cut.

BAH!! I feel so sorry for those kids. Pretty soon, they will feel just as entitled as their parents-if they don't already.

Honestly, the only thing I DON"T SEE them doing is Honoring God. Although, they might not be honoring him the way most do, or what is considered the RIGHT way in most people's minds......well no....they've scerwed that up royally.

They DID spend a couple of years spewing their memories of "how it was" and God's love.

Otherwise, they've hit all their other goals.

OC it's all about the family, HER FAMILY. HER.

In her brain, IMHO, everything IS for the kids, albeit not directly, for if there are no kids, there is no show. No show, no money. In a round-about way, everything is about being happy for the crap they have, doing it all for the kids, etc.

It's a warped mindset/view of her world and a vicious cycle.

My great-grandmother would have said this woman saw the devil at the front door and invited him right on in for tea.

Stick that verse on your bathroom mirror.

Remember folks, we are ONLY seeing what the editors want us to see. My wife & I watched some of the marathon episodes and noticed that there was a lot of "new" audio with old footage. TLC was in spin mode a long time ago. Don't you think its funny that we're not seeing the early episodes of this season?

The Producers, TLC, the sound guy, wardrobe, the Camera guys, etc know that the viewing public would be insulted if they tried showing early faux episodes of "love" and family and then tried convincing us it was "REAL". Must suck to be TLC & have lots of footage that can't be used.

KellieK said...

Excellent post...thanks for reminding us about the old "Mission Statement"! When I read this, it made me think of what Uncle Kevin said on Good Morning America (or whatever morning show it was). He said something to the extent of it's going to be awful for the kids when they one day realize that all of the fun trips and family moments were organized solely for the show. It's the same thing with this mission statement...the kids are one day going to realize that many, MANY memories from their childhoods were arranged simply to get ratings. I hope they're strong enough to handle that. I know I would be devastated.

No wonder all the new shows about multiples are popping up...who wouldn't want all the freebies the Gimme Gimme Gosselins are blatantly showing off....there is a lesson in this. If you exploit your kids and throw all your values out the window...you will be rewarded.

We are canceling TLC and Discovery today...I do enjoy the Duggars but TLC is putting all their eggs in one basket (Kate's) and all their other shows are going to suffer for it...that's too bad. I remember when we got the pkg deal from our satellite company it had to have TLC/Discovery in it. Now it's just not what it once was...nothing more than another E! channel IMHO.

They are counting the playroom that was off from the dining room area. I'm kind of confused about the building of the twin's bedroom myself. I have a feeling that they knew they weren't going to be in that house much longer when they started the show, so build on to it?

This mission statement is a joke... as is Kate.

She so desperately wants to sound real, grounded, educated, and caring.

Keep trying Kate.

Christine said...

I didn't believe it then, I don't believe it now. There are new pictures of her everyday. OK KATE WE GET IT ... you're trying to prove you're a mommy showing your crotch, boobies, and galore yet at the same time, you're scowling like you can't wait to get out of your nightmare. Honestly, I don't understand her trying to be in the public eye to prove something when she just looks more stupid.

I'm not condemning her, because she doesn't act "Christian" enough, but my mother is a great example of how a Christian lifestyle is, and it's nothing like Kate's. She teaches her kids nothing. I bet she doesn't even go to church every Sunday like she claims unless it's to pick up her "offering".

Her mission statement is BS just like her life. Kudos Kate!

leaky said...

Seeing that the kids now all have those crooked play houses just makes me upset. Not of the little Gosselin kids but my older kids (*they are putting themselves through college so they are poor/ but I'm very proud of them) keep putting that tar on my roof trying to baby it through. I'm disabled and there is no money but there are millions of people like me across the world watching the Gosselins thinking the same thing. Or more that don't have a roof over their heads and Kate scored her kids' play houses. I have anxiety attacks, the spring storms aren't helping with on that roof. Must be nice to not worry about it. I bet people thought it must be neat to advertise a home in 'People' magazine too if wasn't selling. Another perk for the Gosselins.
Geesh, I wonder if Kate Gosselin knows where people can get a hand up or does she not help the simple folks anymore? The price of one or maybe two of the little play house would have put a new roof on my house most likely. Its a simple life, but its my life, and a place to land on breaks from college and if there are no jobs to found....worrying about the future is me.

It is so sad. In the beginning the show was so surreal. Now it's as if Jon & Kate are only doing it for the money and the gratuitys. The children are just there as if in the way of Jon & Kate's spotlight.

3boysmommy said...

At least one of the crooked houses were shown in the Chopper Episode, at one point you could see the boys house and what looked like another house to the side of that one in the backyard. Must be another plug for a product. My almost 10 year old son asked me if this family knows that most 'normal' kids don't get to take countless vacations or get 10% of the stuff this family gets. These children are either going to have major entitlement issues, or life is going to smack them down hard when as adults everything under the sun is not handed to them. My heart goes out to them.

Good heavens, their realtor should be hung out to dry!

Who takes listing photos with c**p taped to the bathroom mirror and the toilet lid up? Or the laundry room with the door hanging open and trash laying around? And junk on the counters in the kitchen?

How about a new spring/summer photo of the back to get ride of the snow?

They have been counting on . . . I don't know what . . . the word-of-mouth celebrity panache of this being the Jon and Kate to sell it (being that it doesn't mention them in the description, which my office did when we had the listing for the Cottage Living home of the year a couple of years ago)?

Stage it a bit, light it decently and take some new photos, for pete's sake!

Love the blog - I tried watching it once about 2 years ago and found it annoying and don't understand the appeal at all. Reading all the stuff about Kate's and Jon's behavior is just validating my previous thoughts.

Maybe if they actually put some effort into selling the house, they can put that in the bank for the kids' future?

I'm taking a seminar on spirituality and counseling this weekend and a bunch of handout type stuff was emailed to all of the participants yesterday. I immediately thought of Kate and The Family Mission when I read this quote by M. Scott Peck, M.D. about the four stages of spiritual growth.

Stage 1 - Chaotic, Antisocial. Frequently pretenders; they pretend they are loving and pious, covering up their lack of principles. Although they may pretend to be loving (and think of themselves that way), their relationships with their fellow human beings are all essentially manipulative and self-serving. They really don't give a hoot about anyone else. I call the stage chaotic because these people are basically unprincipled. Being unprincipled, there is nothing that governs them except their own will. And since the will from moment to moment can go this way or that, there is a lack of integrity to their being. They often end up, therefore in jails or find themselves in another form of social difficulty. Some, however, may be quite disciplined in the services of expediency and their own ambition and so may rise in positions of considerable prestige and power, even to become presidents or influential preachers.

That episode was the absolute kiss of death for me and I have rarely watched since. What pathetic juxtaposing of values: "Hey kids, you come first... We do everything for you... Oops, lghting not right? Oh, ok , take two... Hey kids, you come first... Ok, now smile, just one more time... Hey kids..." And all that posturing and pretend gratitude and deer in the headlights no clue how foolish she looks gaping and ear-tugging trying to remember what mission means anyway. She's really quite sad. But I don't want to look at it any more.

As a kid my mother used to discuss negatively the neighbors and our relatives with me. I joined in with the put-downs but it was wrong. Kids shouldn't be watching this show if they then criticize it. I feel parents shouldn't let kids talk negatively about other human beings.

Snark with your friends not your kids.

This week, however, when Kate started going to the spa, being pampered, and laughing like a hostess at a 50's cocktail party (i'm guessing - she had that "welcome to my domain" air) I just got bored (I was already nauseated) and shut it off.
I'm not interested in The Kate Show. (I mean, usually, it's the Kate Reaming Someone Out Show, but this time she was kissing up instead.

Seriously, who wants to watch a mother of 8 go to the spa with a guy who can build motorcycles?

This is someone's idea of entertainment? (or learning?? I've learned so much from J&K+8. I've learned about greed and narcissism, about how to berate your husband, calmly, with aforethought (not in the heat of the moment, even).
