Please tell the PR team and TLC that we know that they will edit it to make Queen Kate look better..if that is possible.
I for one am sick of seeing her on everything...and hanging out in places with her water balloons!
As for Jon..I pray her grew them back? Not sure he ever did.
So this is a retrospect of how to have a litter and an hour special on how to get divorced! Oh and how to take the joy out of children childhoods as you only see them as eight $$$$$$$$!

The commercials for this episode are disgusting.
The 'happy' music makes you think all this is going to have a fairtale ending.
Why is it called 'The first ten years?' Is TLC going to try and dragged this mess out for another 10 years?
Those poor little kiddies.

That preview clip they've been running on TLC is so sad. One of the first things they show is Jon putting his head on Kate's shoulder and she hugging him when they were moving in to their home in Elizabethtown. They both looked so happy. How they have changed and succumbed to fame and fortune since is tragic.

LisaLoo said...

Newly discovered footage? Right.

TLC is shameless. Would any normal family going through the destruction of a marriage reminisce with home videos? Of course not.

I really can't imagine that this show will be anything more than some of Kate and Jon's homemade movies ala before and during and right after their marriage. I don't know why it is titled as it is.

I don't care to see it and am only curious about the part where they say they will show what is coming up for the family. How in the HELL can they do that when the couple is divorcing and everybody knows it? It's just despicable to me that TLC will not cancel this show.

This show is very upsetting. How can they do a tribute to remember the first 10 years. That is something you do when life is good and you are CELEBRATING a milestone. What are we celebrating? The destruction of a family, the lies told, the staged life of 8 innocent children.

I am not understanding the point of this and how hurtful this will be to the children. "Oh look, kids, there is your mommy and daddy when they pretended to be happy and didn't care about you, but about fame and money."

TLC sunk to a new low.

I hate that they are calling this "The First Ten Years" as if they are planning on these idiot parents being in the limelight for another 10 years. Ugh!

The episode should be more appropriately named "How greed and reality television ruined a family".

I'm not revisiting them.

I hope I never see them again. I certainly will not be turning my television on to anything that has their 'story'.

Their 'story' is a lie; every word that comes out of their mouths is a lie, and they make false claims to trick people out of money, just as Bernie Madoff did.

They ought to be going to jail, not glorified on a television show.

Sue said...

Anyone want to guess what the ratings will be on this one?

JFaye said...

Wouldn't it be nice if TLC put the cameras on themselves as part of this trip down memory lane? They certainly have played a big role in the "First Ten Years". Now that might be reality tv I might actually tune in for.

Oh, The Momma said...

This 'show' makes me nauseous. I saw the ad for it in passing last night - and thought "They're making this sound like some sort of celebration' -- like PLEASE - this is morbid, disgraceful, lacking ANY sort of decency.

Another 'video record' the kids will have to look back on and feel bad about.

I divorced many years ago from a VERY bad marriage -- my 20 year old son commented yesterday about the Gosselins and said "Wow. They really have NO IDEA how bad all of this is going to screw up their kids. My life is FOREVER tainted because of stuff my father did - and it isn't a drop in the bucket to what THEY are doing. They need to be locked up somewhere and away from those kids until they can get it together".

Sarolite said...

I think that about sums it up... they're "entertaining." Not great, not inspirational, not even normal or happy. They're entertaining. I wouldn't want to be described that way!

aka How The Trainwreck began.

I can't believe TLC is airing this crap! Who cares about where it all began, we already know how it ended. It isn't pretty.

Besides, new viewers will be confused: who is the dark haired woman actually interacting with the baby tups? Is she not a nanny?

BarbMae said...

I definitely will not be watching because it will be the same old lies over and over again. I did break my rule on being TLC free. Friday I got home from work early and succumbed to watching the Roloffs. Friends, family, digs between husband and wife but not to the point of cruelty but a couple who have been married over 18 years. A house that is a "home" not a museum, kids actually swimming in the pool, no paps, even giving the family dog, Rocky, a bath. Interaction w/the family dog and cat. Are the Roloffs perfect, no, I saw the Cheerios box, and other plants, but IMO they are the most "real" of the reality families. Can't believe that paps are still taking pictures of those two. I'm also glad that her cookbook has been delayed... IMO the title is going to be changed to reflect just Kate.

imdamom said...

Do they really think they'll get 10 more years out of this carp??? Does TLC actually think that little of the viewing public? Thanks, TLC, but I hope and believe the viewing public is more intellegent than you think, and this show will sink to the bottom of the ratings heap.

All I can is this episode has been done before and Who Cares? We all know the background of this irritating couple and if you dont know by now then you must live under a rock. TLC is totally running out of ideas of what to do with family. Good bye Gosselins, I will no longer watch what has become the Kate Gosselin show. Good one TLC, on trying to make us have sympathy for her. But it wont work. IMO, if she wasnt such a b**ch to Jon, I highly doubt they would be getting a divorce.

Well, we can make a drinking game out of it. Everytime we hear a lie out of Khate or Jane's mouth take a shot. Okay, nevar mind, after fifteen minutes we would be able to walk or talk. ;-) Speaking of lies, one that got me so mad when I was read an old People with Yawn on the cover at the nail salon is that they had a picture of each of the tups and Yawn's description under each kid. Under Hannie he stated "refuses to get her hair cut". Hellloooo. We saw the footage of Hannie begging Mommy dearest for a haircut and Mommy Dearest flat out said "No". You have to have long hair, one little girl has medium length and the other has shorter. THAT'S HOW SHE TELLS THEM APART. He also stated that Hannie was a year ahead of all the other tups. Then why is she being held back from starting Kinder if she is such a genius? Ok I am shutting up now. lol

It's like every week is a new ploy to get as many ratings as possible. This week - A SPECIAL EPISODE!!! Next week - A SPECIAL EPISODE!!! The week after - A SPECIAL EPISODE!!! TLC is rolling in the profits from this, but IMO it's ruining a lot of their credibility as a family centered station. They're destroying families and they don't care! I just wish all these millions of viewers would pull themselves away from the trainwreck. If there is no audience, there is no show. I refuse to watch TLC at all anymore for two reasons - 1) Their portrayal of birth as a dangerous medical emergency, and 2) Jon and Kate Plus 8.

Maybe this episode will get people to open their eyes a little. I remember watching the first 'season' (how horrible to refer to it as that) where Kate said things like 'this is so wonderful for the children!' 'Oh, I'm so glad the children get to see this! What a great experience!' That hasn't happened for a very long time. Too bad the editing wont portray the truth.

I admit, I haven't stopped watching yet, but after the divorce announcement, the re-runs are just filled with sadness for me.

When Jon was talking with Leah at the party, I started to cry.

I can't get over that they (kate) would let the show go on, but not work harder to save their marriage. How hard is it to be nice? (kate!)

PatK said...

My best guess is that the ratings for tonight's show will only be slightly less than last week's.

Laurie said...

I don't think the ratings will be that hight. Let's face it, with all the (real)celebrity deaths that we've had it has knocked J&K off the magazine covers. Out of sight, out of mind. Those who just turned in last week for the "big announcement" will have forgotten about them. It's sad that it's taken deaths to knock them out of the limelight.

Brian said...

I won't be watching. And, this time, it won't even take self-control.

This sort of retrospection, so close on the heels of Kate's divorce petition, makes it too depressing. Who wants to look through the family album when the ink on the divorce petition isn't even dry yet?

Poor taste. Poor timing. I am sure it will equal poor ratings in the long run.

AMEN! These Stansel people beat ALL. Who begs for money and freebies before the kids are even born? And what kind of people say they can't afford In Vitro and then expect the world to start hitting the paypal button to raise their 6 kids. Ignorance is all around us! Some people have NO SHAME. Not to mention this womans DIABETES and a terrible loss of a previous pregnancy b/c of an incompetent cervix. Why would you jeopardize your own health not to mention that of your children? IMO the Stansils are just middle class welfare recepients. Of course this type of "welfare" is the acceptable kind, but they are no different than those working the gov't welfare system who collect a check and drive Escalades and Hummers. Hopefully the Gosselin Fiasco will put a crimp in their "pass the plate" plans. SHAMELESS!

"when they say "the 1st 10 years", they're not talking about doing the show for another 10 years. they're referring to jon and kate's 10 year marriage and looking back at it."

I get that, but describing it as "the first ten years" implies there will be more years of the marriage/family to come, and we know that's not true. I saw the ad for this episode and it's ridiculous: sappy music, scenes from the past that only remind viewers what this show has done to the family. I hope an attorney will be assigned to represent the kids, and he/she will show this stupid ad to a judge as an example of TLC's unrelenting pursuit to exploit these kids any way they can for ratings.

Janet said...

Why would people watch "The First Ten Years"? It's depressing things don't last and it's no longer a complete family no more.

Jess said...

There won't be another 10 years for Gosselin family on TV. Why?

1. The scandals turned some people off. Kate turned many people off.

2. Jon and Kate can't sell scandals and dramas forever. It gets boring pretty quick.

It's true some viewers tune in because of the scandals and dramas. The Jon and Kate drama is getting tiresome. You can only stir some drama a few times. If you keep doing it, people get sick of your trashy way.

This is not MTV's "The Hills". Even the rating of "The Hills" is declining a lot because viewers are just bored with the silly dramas.

Not to mention people get sick and tired of two parents' drama quicker than youngers' dramas on "The Hills". Because people expect youngsters to live the life and just be silly. They expect parents to act like parents not trash.

3. The stars of the show, the Gosselin children, are less cute each day.

They are growing out of the toddler age, that's the most no pretentious and spontaneous age. Nothing wrong with kids growing older. That's just life. We all were cute kids once then we started to act like miniature adults and less adorable. That happens to everybody.

However, some Gosselin children start to be mouthy like their mother. It's a kind of annoying. Can you imagine in few months there will be 3 more Madys in the house. Forget about cuteness!

When kids start acting like miniature adults, they no longer make you smile. It's not like Gosselin children are responsible to make us smile. They shouldn't even be be working for a TV show anyway.

I hate to say this, because of all these setting the production people did on the show to get kids' response, like big house, expensive toys, and luxury kids. The kids seem to be jaded and no longer cute and innocent.

_____________________________

Looks to me as if the "what is coming up for the family" is just a preview of the episodes beginning August 3. For example- Kate's trip to the beach. The preview of what is come looks horrible. Kate has a day out with the boys to satisfy fans who say she likes the girls better. Kate is SO AWARE of the camera now, its not at all real. She is more fake than ever.

Meanwhile most of tonights episode will center around a ten year marriage that is currently ending before the world's eyes. Its a sham and disqusting to think people will want to see this. The marriage is over and its pretty clear why to anyone who has watched the show. This is TLC and Kate at their worse- attempting to rewrite history. Its scary to think it might work.

Her book release has been postponed. Now that Kate can not go on book tour with her silver hair bodyguard, have affairs in the 5 star hotel she demands (isn't he still married?), and leave her 8 children behind. Kate must be really upset she can't have her romantic travel with the silver hair dude.

She is going to make Jon go home more often, so she can have excuses like "I can't be in the same room with Jon" to leave her children.

One needs to understand how it is to live with someone that possesses Kate's severely demeaning and controlling personality. It's not about "growing a pair" as you state. Anyway, Jon said loud and clear why they are getting separated/divorced. To quote Jon on the show, he said, "I FINALLY STOOD UP TO KATE AND I AM PROUD OF MYSELF." He knew it would have a fracturing impact on their already troubled marriage, but he had no choice for the sake of his own sanity, as well as for his kids (meaning set a healthy example in behavior among many other involved things). He openly admitted he had let Kate do what she did to him for 10 years straight. But, he respectfully neglected to tell the viewers WHY he chose to fall into that pattern.

So now TLC thinks they can cut out all the melt downs by Kate and the fighting that they exploited for ratings in the first place...and we the viewers are supposed to be stupid and not see this? I really think TLC has completely lost their minds. Imagine an interview at TLC..."We're going to exploit all the weaknesses in your marriage to get good ratings and as your marriage falls apart we'll convince you it's the best thing for your kids...you're making money after all...and if you end up getting divorced all the better! We'll just film you separately and exploit that too!! Imagine how famous you'll become! It won't affect your kids at all...they know the truth...it's just TV." It is really scary to see that the president of TLC thinks she is the moral authority on what we want to see in family TV. No...I don't think so.

who else thinks that all along TLC was putting *just enough* of kate "being kate" on air to tick of 1 set of viewers and endear her to another and now that they are obviously trying to spin things in kate's favor there will be less "kate being kate" and more stuff that makes jon look bad...in the reruns even...i know that they've definately edited out some things before that were not received well (kate screaming "HEEEELLLLLOOOOOO" across the store at jon used to be a part of the intro to the show, didn't it?). were they editing the show to make jon look a little better and kate look a little worse?

Probably ALL the same reasons that WOMEN stay in a toxic marriage even though they know its not emotionally, mentally, and physically the 'right' thing to do . Embarrasment, fear, loyalty, the CHILDREN, sense of pride etc...
Although the manner in which the Gosselin marriage unfolded, ie media frenzy and tabloid headlines may seem unreasonal by comparison, the reason(s) why Jon stayed and ultimately made the choice to end the marriage can be sympathized by and are relatable for many, men and women alike. Hopefully as Jon begins the healing process he will also learn THEY why he allowed himself to fall in to such a pattern for 9 plus years.

This show is a waste. Before, during and most likely after the divorce.

Kate- go back to nursing. Your books suck.

Jon- go back to school and get a degree- you're going to need it.

I don't think that Kate can go back to being a nurse. Who would want her taking care of them? Not me, that's for sure.

Although the manner in which the Gosselin marriage unfolded, ie media frenzy and tabloid headlines may seem unreasonal by comparison, the reason(s) why Jon stayed and ultimately made the choice to end the marriage can be sympathized by and are relatable for many, men and women alike. Hopefully as Jon begins the healing process he will also learn THEY why he allowed himself to fall in to such a pattern for 9 plus years."

I completely agree. And now he has the money to get out. Imagine the shame he must have felt when the witch continually emasculated him to the world. It isn't easy to understand unless you afflicted with low self esteem and beaten down. I watched a sister battle this and it can take a lot to break out. He isn't perfect, but he's standing up and he's the better parent by far.

Bev S. said...

The "unseen footage" was from FUTURE episodes...you know...what they filmed the last month while they were headlining in the tabloids. I think it became quite obvious why they went on "hiatus". It has nothing to do with it being good for the family. It's because they want to create some space so it will be harder for us to point out how fake the show is. That's all it is. They're trying to make Kate into some demure, "poor, poor single mom" nevermind the fact that she badgered Jon to no end and got kicked to the curb because she was such a hag. It doesn't matter what they do...it all is for money at the expense of their children being exploited.

The sneak peak at what lies ahead is the trip to North Carolina. She is talking about being alone and doings things on her own. So they knew about this along time ago. TLC just manipulated it to their advantage. Shameful. I only watched the last 2 minutes, cos I was watching Make it or Break it. I love gymnastics. It's a good show.

Smoochie1964 said...

Caught the last few minutes to see if they previewed or explained the "hiatus"

They "previewed" all-new upcoming episodes. Kate and the kids in North Carolina, Kate explaining that its her first vacation without Jon and then back home putting up a tent and her whole new attitude of can-do! Ugh, where was this demure positive attitude when she was married.

Showed Jon with the twins rock climbing and having fun in the yard. Then greeting the tups when they came home, I presume from Carolina. Jon explaining they'll film different stuff with the kids separately.

My take from this is that they decided to separate well before they filmed their announcement. I can see them taping some comments "just in case" they were needed, edit accordingly and hope to pull the wool over the viewers eyes as long as they could.

I think Jon finally said its over, no going back (Kate's own words) and did something to push Kate over the edge. Kate filed when she did as a big f/u to Jon, but ended up cutting her nose off to spite her face.

This morning I watched another show on a man named, "Patrick Welsh". Mr. Welsh left his wife and two sons, faked his own death; moved to Galveston, TX and changed his name to "Tim Kingsbury". He moved into a mansion on the shore with a girlfriend. Got a new job at a radio station, and became a philanthopist.

When he was found and caught, he said, "I did it for my kids". It was all for the kids and his wife that he "Loved more than anything"!

Yep, they lived a poor miserable life, scraping by; while he lived the life of minor fame and wealth---'for the kids'. He never saw the kids...but, gee he THOUGHT about them 'everyday'!

At least this man served 4 years in jail for his deception.

Jon and Kate are being celebrated by TLC, for decieving and lying to everyone, and stealing money from good hearted folks. Disgusting.

Not a fan of either said...

I am ashamed. I watched. With each finely edited glimpse of their sweet and loving family life shown from former episodes all I could remember were the parts they didn't show. That would be Kate's ugly, hateful behavior from each story line. Of course, all of her nastiness was edited out as they are setting the stage for a predominately Kate show. Once again, TLC has mistakenly taken us for fools. Surely they can't possibly think that we have forgotten the "rest" of each episode where Kate berated Jon, belittled her children, and acted like a total bitch. They didn't show it (this time), but it was still there. They were even stupid enough to show the "beautiful trip to Hawaii" minus the fake wedding vows, of course. TLC must have idiots making decisions.

Get real TLC. I won't be watching the upcoming season. It's over.

I can tell you that a lot of the new episodes were already filmed and Jon and Kate were coached on what the couch talks were going to be like.

They've started asking the kids what they want to do and Jon and Kate decide who is going to do what activity with them.

Then they ask Jon and Kate to start talking and only take the bits they believe will cause the most drama.

I completely agree! What's with the music and this entire episode for that matter? How inappropriate! The kids' family is falling apart due to greed, fame, and who knows what else and TLC is making light of that? They are disgusting along with Jon and Kate. I hope these shameful people fade away out of the limelight and give these kids a chance for a normal childhood, if that is still possible.

I only remembered when I decided to tune in for "Cake Boss", and caught the last few minutes of Jon and Kate's circus. I only watched the last few minutes, and it was very sad. Kate's trip the NC with the tups was totally staged, while Jon's time with the twins seemed very natural, as if he was doing things he knew they would actually enjoy.

So, in other words, it was business as usual, from the two minutes that I saw.

I hope I never see them again. I certainly will not be turning my television on to anything that has their 'story'. I'm watching CNN coverage of Michael Jackson instead.

Their 'story' is a lie; every word that comes out of their mouths is a lie, and they make false claims to trick people out of money, just as Bernie Madoff did. Kate is about as evil as Bernie is and then some.

They ought to be going to jail, not glorified on a television show. I can't tell you how much hatred I have for them. I wish they would die every day.

I am proud to say that I did not watch. Doesn't sound like I missed much. I did see the preview of I believe an upcoming episode, where Kate takes that boys on a ship and takes the girls to play with beads. I had 2 reactions...
1)It was very bizarre to watch Kate playing the part of someone that appears to enjoy spending time with her children. The phonyness of it disgusted me.
2)Even though it's completely fake to anyone with eyes, maybe the kids don't know that. Maybe they will get to experience a mother that is nice and patient and appears to enjoy spending time with them, even if we know that it's only for the cameras.

I can't believe that TLC is doing such a laughable job of trying to twist things and make us think that if they edit the old clips, maybe everybody will forget that they exist. If I didn't know better, I would guess that a pre-school class was in charge of production for TLC and Jon and Kate plus 8.

From the posts so far, I'm so glad I didn't watch. It sounds like it was actually painful to see the scam that TLC threw together. Only the new viewers will be taken in by this last ditch effort of damage control.

I have finally quit watching this show. I did not watch tonight and will not watch any new episodes. The fact that TLC would think it is ok to show this "looking back" episode in light of everything going on is just sick. I suspect this was already planned to be aired for their 10th anniversary when they thought they would still get away with deceiving us but you would think some smart person would decide that it would be inappropriate to air it now.

I'm totally over this show and I will stop watching and hope that these kids can eventually reclaim their childhoods.

So over it said...

If their kids ever go back and watch the things their parents said about them, they will be even more devastated and scarred then they are by the mere experience of this show. Here are some random thoughts to share:
1) Kate & Jon in the past described the day they discovered they had 7 (then 7) embryos growing as the most horrible day of their lives. Really? Horrible? Can you imagine one of the six thinking "thanks 'mom and dad. I'm glad I was a horrible part of your life."

2) J&K talk about the countless hours spent working off camera with TLC for planning. Really? You are supposed to be taping your life but instead you have to "plan" what you tape? Oh yeah--that's because it's all staged and fake. TLC decided to make up experiences for you that you (and the rest of us) could not afford because otherwise your lives were boring!

3) If you've seen other reality shows, you will notice that "Ed Hardy" promotes his clothes there too, by giving freebies, or having the shows' casts go in to his stores for custom shirts. My guess is they sent good ol' Jonnie boy box of free clothes to wear and so he does (these t-shirts run a few hundred bucks a piece! ridiculous for shirts that are not so attractive if you ask me.)

4) I cannot wait until a few years from now when those kids really start to talk back and make their parents' lives hell!! They only need to be about 10 or 12 to start making her miserable. And Mady is off to a good start.

5) I did not watch tonight's "first 10 years" recap. But I had seen commercials for it. And all I could think of is that this seemed like TLC's pathetic attempt to make "mommy and daddy" fall in love again, sort of like the children of divorcing parents who try to get them to reconcile. It's TLC's last ditch effort to make them wake up and smell the coffee.

6) TLC--it should be called "the leeches' channel" or maybe "the losers' & cheats"

Wasn't really tempted last night. I thought it would be NO new footage, and went to sleep at 8:30, had a busy weekend.

My DD said she saw a moment of it last night while flipping and that they had blurred out the dates on the home video footage. As the keeper of the 'timeline' I found that interesting.

What were they trying to hide with the dates? Was it the same footage we have always seen? If so, I don't remember the dates being blurred out then?

Anyway, if anyone knows let me know. I am losing interest in these two pretty fast so can't say I will take the time to find out.

Oh, The Momma said...

Hrm. Sad. Reading about last night's show - it seems that 'future episodes' of 'single outings by Jon and single outings with Kate' have already been filmed. IF that's the case - then did they lie about when they told the kids? If they didn't - WHAT were those poor kids BEING told about why mommy or daddy wasn't with them?

Gosh. Kate said in her interview they didn't use the 'D' word - but how crazy and confusing these 'future episode' outings must have been for the kids if they were clueless? It does, however, give Mady credit for her statement that she kind of already knew.

I also read in one article that they 'recapped' descriptions of the kids - and well, why not make SURE this stuff that would hurt the kids gets more deeply planted for them to deal with it when they are older.

Did they REALLY show Kate's OBSESSION with the POOP PICTURES AGAIN? PLEASE tell me they didn't!!!!!!!

I totally forgot there was a show last night!! For those of you who had to just had to take a peak, please stop. TLC is attempting to bring in new viewers, so it is imperative that the old viewers go away to keep the ratings down.

The hiatus is a blessing and an ideal time to kick the habit. You need to because TLC will be blasting the TV with promos and the Greedlins will be on the covers of all the magazines when the hiatus is over. It's their MO, so just expect it.

It is disingenuous to watch because, ironically, you are keeping the show on the air with your viewership. Ratings are not broken out in GWoP versus sheeple viewers.

huskerhokiema said...

Well, I watched. They showed all the "good, sweet" stories, and none of the bickering, nasty stuff. I guess they were trying to show the good sides of all involved to try and improve their image.

I also watched a bit of the re-run of last week's show, and Jon pretty much stated that the past 4 months have been very tough, which makes me wonder what happened in February to start the ball rolling in their official separation/divorce. Kate just kind of sits there blinkingly saying it's all Jon's fault. It must be tough for him to not respond to her accusations and lack of responsiblity on her part.

I think once the show resumes and focuses mostly on Kate and the kids, it will be very boring and hopefully die a swift death.

cossysmom said...

TLC is really working hard at damage control. These were all clips of the "nice" Kate and the fun family. A ploy to hook new viewers, maybe?

Someone suggested Kate go back to nursing and Jon complete his degree. I don't think Kate would ever be hired as a nurse after she has put her true personality out there. Her choices are somewhat limited as I think her name is poison. Jon on the other hand has the door open to perhaps start a business of some kind. Jon, pick something that interests you, get expert advice while you still can and get a future for yourself and your children before the window of opportunity closes. It's already over for Kate, but you can save yourself if straighten up, grow up, and do the right thing. Stop chasing "things" and cherish what you have.

Well, if TLC isn't happy with themselves for destroying these kids, they are now planning to destroy more:

From US Magazine:

Looks like the new 40-episode season of Jon & Kate Plus 8 isn't enough for TLC.

The cable network wants to film more families who are expecting multiple babies.

An ad posted on Craigslist (that has since been removed) asks: "Are you expecting multiples and want to share this extraordinary event with TLC???

"TLC is now looking for NY, NJ, and CT families who are expecting twins, triplets, or more! We would capture the birth of the babies and witness their amazing first breath, first cry, and all the emotions that go along with such an incredible occasion. Then, TLC will be there as you leave the hospital and adjust to your first few days at home as a family."

Last week's uncomfortable Jon & Kate premiere -- in which the couple taped testimonials separately and admitted they might split -- was the highest-rated show in TLC's history with 9.8 million viewers.

On Friday, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine if the show is violating child labor laws after receiving a complaint against the show.

The couple of nearly 10 years has been spending time apart. Kate showed off her bikini bod in the resort town of Bald Head Island, N.C. Sunday with all her kids, while Jon was spotted with two women at an upscale mall in New Jersey.

Truly Shameful!!! These people are... well... I can't post it on here....

Faking your own death and assuming a new identity is criminal.

Jon and Kate--thus far, have not done anything criminal. Dishonest and immoral, maybe--but not criminal.

There is a BIG difference between the two stories.

Had the Texas guy just upped and left, at the most he would be held accountable to back child support. But the twist is the laws that he broke when he decided to leave.

Very important thing to consider--even as much as the Gosselins are disliked at the moment.

A faux-reality/mock-umentary is not a criminal act.

I have to agree with the previous comments, as I watched last night's show I was disturbed by how TLC cut out the very scenes they had emphasized. Not just emphasized, built entire shows around! It felt like a lie, a big fairy tale that anyone who had seen even a few episodes would have see through.

Their whole life seems so sad to me now. I know that Jon and Kate both chose to follow the path that they are on, but I just wonder if they really, truly saw where it lead, would they have made different choices? And now that their decisions have basically ruined their marriage (I don't buy Kate's line that it would have turned out that way anyway), WHY in the world would they not stop before it does the same thing to the children???

I have to admit to being a sheeple for a very long time. I loved the show, loved the banter between the two of them. But last season I started getting uneasy because I could feel the anger behind the little comments. I could see Jon’s face and reactions becoming more and more distant. I knew deep down that one day soon we would be hearing it was over if something didn’t change. At the end of last season when Jon was saying he wanted out and Kate was saying basically, Jon be damned, we’ll be back I was so upset. I wanted to scream at Kate through the TV, make her hear me! This is it; this is your chance to save your marriage! I guess we all know how that turned out…

Kate has kicked EVERYONE out of her life (friends, extended family, parents), I guess it was only a matter of time before even her immediate family (husband, kids) would be booted to the curb. How sad the Gosselin children play "Kate and her 'boy or brother' (body guard, maybe?), wonder if that might be Steve they are referring to? Those kids have seen too much and are acting it out, I bet they seen things in NC.

You don't hear them call Jon by his name or play "Jon" or refer to the girl or sister. Must be because they are secure with his role as their father.

Geez now what said...

OK, I watched some of this. The wife had recorded it and I stayed in the living room to watch some of it. I couldn't watch the entire thing as mainly, it was just a bunch of fluff, nonsense and endless chattering about nothing.

I hadn't seen a J/K infomercial for a few years so if nothing else, it was interesting to see the changes.

Setting aside her sideways mullet, the biggest change is Kate's enless blathering. Jon mainly sits there like a lump on log while Kate pontificates endlessly on various topics, including her recommendations for other parents. (!) I'll leave that one alone....

Jon did get a few words in, including a complaint that a movie night would cost one hundred dollars? Did I hear that right? If so, Jon, please, spare me the pleading of poverty. Sell your sports car if you're that worried you can't afford a movie night.

In any case, it's plainly obvious that Kate sincerely believes that everyone watching her is hanging on her every word and sits on the edge of their seats waiting to hear from Glorious Leader Kate as to how to conduct their lives through her example.

That's when it occured to me: This deadly serious/overly earnest/trying so hard to sound smart blabbing is Kate attempting to cobble together a resume for this talk show she thinks some sucker network is going to buy into.

Watch her with that idea in mind and you will see what I mean.

Like many, I find myself wondering just when and how this show jumped the shark so completely. I have stopped watching, but I think part of it is Kate's obsession with ALL types of image.

She was a loving and tender mother at the start of the show because the tups were babies. They were adorable babies that didn't talk back or sully their cuteness with anything other than mess (which she could clean) and logistical issues (which she could organize). In numerous episodes she lamented the kids growing up and how sad that made her, while Jon talked about how exciting and fun it is to have the kids grow up and become more interesting and engaging.

She doesn't know what to do with her kids now that they can talk back and have opinions, and her distaste for dealing with testosterone is palpable. They are still cute, but I hate to see what happens when the twins reach that awkward stage that every human being goes through at some point.

We can see Jon had a certain 'image' when they were dating until a young, cute, John became a pudgy, balding, John. The hair transplant held off Kate's revulsion for a while, but she is banking on trading up now.

The dogs were once cute puppies. Remember how Kate completely usurped picking the puppies? She had to fawn over them only to have Nala and Shoka grow and become complete burdens.

As the kids became older, Kate lost interest. The family didn't look as cute and picture-perfect, she knew the times of matching outfits would end someday, and we saw less of a diligent, organized, mother and more of a woman at a loss as to how to interact with and engage her children.

Kate's like one of those girls in high school that you want to smack because they say 'I want a baby because they're so cute.'

----------------------------------

I have not watched the show for quite some time so I did not see this particular show.

You mentioned them showing some home video. Was this a video of them as babies? There was the story of how the Gosselins were sending a video they made around to people I guess to try and get a TV show. It backs up the idea that they were trying to make money off them from the start. I guess the date would have proved how soon after they were born that they started marketing them. Just a guess on my part why they blurred it out if this is the video you saw.

I didn't watch. But, I did turn on the TV at 8:50 and caught what I wanted - the last few minutes. I wanted to see how they ended this.

Sure enough, with previews, as if nothing is going on. I can see the writing on the wall..ALL ABOUT KATE. They were downplaying Jon but building up Kate to be that single supermom.

I wanted to throw my glass at the TV. Really? Poor Kate has to do it all alone and is now Ms Positive, I CAN DO IT person - the one who is going to keep the kids strong.

They were making it like Jon was a misfit and she was a superhero.

We all know that it is Jon who gives those children time, attention, and love...regardless of his flaws.

But, since he doesn't want to do the show, it is going to become MORE of THE KATE SHOW than ever before. How is that possible? TLC found a way.

Disgusting. How dare they twist this angle and make this difficult time even more confusing for these children.

i went to my son's baseball game and came home at in time to turn it on. But I did not. Sorry, TLC, you lost me long ago due to your lack of morality and I will never be back. You were once my favorite channel before you became a tv version of National Enquirer magazine (or whatever one is the worst of the worst). Talk about junk food for the brain. The last time I watched I felt like I needed a shower afterward. I continue to read and post on here because of concern for the kids, but other than that, I am done. I signed an online boycott TLC "free the gosselin 8" petition months ago and stuck with it. It's easy enough to find online. Whether or not those petitions work, it still felt good to add my name. With all that being said, I don't judge those who do watch. I can only say that if it makes you feel bad, just stop. I hung out happily with Jodi Picoult and then slept peacefully.

----------------

Not to defend TLC, because I really am finding them despicable at this point, but it sounds to me like that ad is looking for people to be on an episode of either "A Baby Story" or "Bringing Home Baby" to me...Not to do a series on another family. Thank goodness for small favors, I guess.

TLC, and its president, Eileen O'Niell are and will continue to be ENABLERS to the dysfunction that is now the Gosselin family!
IMO, a striking comparison can be made to the enabling contributions of TLC with respect to the Gosselin family and the likes of the 'celebrity' doctors that with full knowledge support and enable the addictions of celebrites, ie Elvis Presly, Anna Nicole Smith,
and Michael Jackson ! As Dr. Drew pointed out in a recent interview there exists a 'justifiable' advantage to those that enable, for TLC $$$ and ratings, for the 'celebrity' doctors, 'status' by association whether it be in the form of $$$ and endless VIP priviledges for family/friends etc. IMO TLC was/is fully aware of their contributions to the dysfunction and destruction of the Gosselin marriage but yet intentionally and methodically made every effort to disquise their role by misleading, misinforming, and justifying their participation ie, 'the show allows Kate the luxery of being a stay at home mother to her children'. Even though, the truth to that 'reality' has proven to be quite the opposite. I wont even get on my soap box about how TLC has and continues to blatantly EXPLOIT and play an enabling role in POTENTIALLY stifling the emotional and psychological growth of the Gosselin children. IMO, TLC's president, Eileen O'Neill statement of ' it is hard to walk away from high numbers' speaks volumes to the self serving and advantageous role of the ENABLER. I find it EXTREMELY disturbing that Ms. O'Neill can so easily prioritize NUMBERS over that of the present and future physical, emotional, and mental well being of eight minor children. I cant believe for one moment that Ms. O'Neill, the woman, believes that enabling J & K Gosselin and exploiting the Gosselin children is the RIGHT thing to do by this family. However, I DO believe that Ms. O'Neill, the ENABLER, has a self serving agenda and knows exactly what is in it for HER!!!

Low ratings and advertisers dropping out will also cause them to end the show. To keep a show on the air, it has to make the network money. As the payment to the Gosselins and Kate's demands for things goes up, the network will have to pull in more and more money to cover the cost of producing the show and still make money.

It was insulting both to my intelligence and integrity.

BTW. I too noticed that they blurred Kevin and Jodi's daughter (which was not done in the original episode) and they also blurred Mr. Grey's face on the trip to Utah (which again was not done in the original episode). Just more evidence of TLC treating viewers as fools. Hey, maybe they know it would be foolish for anyone to watch. That was an accident waiting to happen if she served that hot tea to those girls. In our house we have had many tea parties but we never used hot tea. I think that they would be MORE than able to fill up the rest of this season IF they would give EACH INDIVIDUAL child in the family a chance to star in his/her very own HOUR episode. We could see them from the beginning of their life through the current time and even have them on the couch in their very own interviews.

Another great show would be all the little interactions between the children. I personally LOVED hearing them "cook" in the dirt after the Emeril show and also loved the interaction they had in the Crooked Houses.

I'd love to see them with Shooka and Nala as well.

The show has been Kate-Heavy and Jon-Heavy for long enough! Since the kids can all talk just fine now and aren't timid in front of cameras, there would be some great shows there!

Just Saying said...

I just read some of the posts here to see what the last episode was like--doesn't sound like I missed much.

What prompted me to leave a comment was the note about TLC looking for parents expecting multiples. Speaking from personal experience, I can't imagine how poeple could possibly agree to have a TV show follow them through such a time.

I had twins after what turned into a very difficult, complicated pregnancy---including months spent confined to bed in the hospital. Although my twins were born further into the pregnancy than Kate's tups, they were smaller than any of the tups. Both had multiple complications, and one died at ten days old. The surviving child is multiply handicapped, but he has been a blessing to our family. Nevertheless, I can't imagine having a camera follow me during one of the most difficult, stressful, and heartbreaking times of my life. I don't even know how to describe how traumatic it is to deal with sick babies in the NICU.

Frankly, I wouldn't want TV cameras following me through ANY pregnancy. That's a very special, private family time to me. But with the increased danger of complications that goes along with multiple births, it's unthinkable, IMO.

I don't only blame TLC. What does it say about our society that it has become so voyeuristic that so many want to follow others' lives and most personal moments on TV? I am no fan of "reality TV," and only got sucked into J&K+8 for a short time, due to the undeniable appeal of their adorable children. And now here I am, checking in regularly to see what's going on in this family. I rationalize it somewhat by telling myself it's out of concern for the welfare of the Gosselin children that I keep checking back, but it's still embarrassing that I've been sucked into what I've always said I deplore.

PS---I haven't posted too often, but I did post as "JustMe" until I noticed another person was posting as "justme," so changed my name to prevent confusion.

Has anyone ever heard of the series of films Michael Apted did, following a group of children and filming a documentary to be broadcast on TV every seven years? I caught up with it when it was called "28 up". While those children weren't related and obviously a lot of the other circumstances were different than Jon&Kate Plus 8, what's really heartbreaking is the resentment that some felt towards being filmed when they were so "young and cute", and having no say--of course, really utterly no clue--about it. And mind you, the kids at their youngest were adorable. The thing is, as adults many of them couldn't remember/relate to their younger selves at all--as they appeared on film. The nature of time, selfhood and growing up was radically different from their perspective vs. what the audience saw. Also, many were really bothered by the "labels" that were put on them as a result of how they appeared at ages 7, 14, etc: the snobby one, the maternal one, the angry one etc. They felt they were handicapped and had to live down something that wasn't them at all.

This is the case with the Gosselins. Kate is doing some outrageous rationalizing saying that the show is "for the kids' memories" etc Even if she truly believed it, the fact is they should have stopped at two specials or at most one followup a year. That's where the producers/TLC have a LOT to answer for. It's their greed, as they make many many times what Jon & Kate have from this series.

The radical exposure of the kids over all these months and years has provided us with our well-meant interest (I love watching the kids-the adults are a total bore), but it's just not normal. And at some point "normal" life is going to have to be dealt with by these little ones, and they won't have the same equipment all of us non-famous kids had to do it. Money is no substitute for that.

Geez now what said...

Explain something for me, please: While watching what I could manage to endure on the DVR last night, there was a segment on how the children argue about who is "more Asian."

I find this very curious.

These toddlers are already evidently being inculcated with identity politics beliefs from one or both parents. As a child, I didn't identify myself as belonging to either ethnic group from which I am descended, one of which is rather uncommon in this country. What's more, I had no sense of it either. I was just a kid. I didn't classify others ethnically as do the Gosselin kids. Again, that these children already do this and are apparently quite concerned about it is curious.

Kate then went on to say how one daughter has declared herself "the most 'Asian-est'" and how it was also deemed that Kate and one of the other daughters are not Asian.

Kate then prattled on with something about how "of course, this is not true" or some words to that effect. So clearly, Kate feels very strongly not only to declare their minority status and instill the value, such as it is, in these children at such a young age, but also ... she says she's Asian herself?

Did I hear that right? When did Kate become "Asian?"
