What a sad state of affairs. It's come down to the two of them not even speaking or really even being willing to be in the same room, yet they keep filming.

When is enough enough?

"It amazes Kate Gosselin that an industry exists to document her life—even as she participates avidly in the documentation of her own life—because she never imagined that there is anything out of the ordinary about inserting yourself as noisily as possible into the cultural conversation by whatever means are available"

Bill O'Reilly addressed the Gosselins tonight. He called the show "dopey" and castigated TLC for producing such a show. He actually watched it last night and said he hated it.

I am quite sure his email will crash tonight!

I wrote him and thanked him for his honest view.

If you want to write to him, keep it short and keep it pithy. Be sure to leave your name and town.

Interesting in the "I Hope They Get a Divorce" video, Kate's former patient states that Kate has always desired fame for herself and her children. Those statements would have had to have been made quite some time ago as Kate has not worked as a nurse in years. Just goes to show that Kate had a "plan" from LONG, LONG AGO.

Where to begin...I cringed as she kept saying she was doing everything alone. I watched her stuff a pinata, that's it. She delegated the decorations (table clothes, a sign, a few balloons, and four pinatas, oops don't let me forget the bug candles) to four grown adults. This was a party with about 25 people tops. Hopefully, the kids don't have multiple friends because they would have to chose just one and break it to the others. No cousins, aunts, grandmothers. They have all been cut off. Any loving parent would tell you that children thrive in a community of family love and support. They get one friend, that's it. One of the boys' buddies didn't even show. Wouldn't you think if you give your kid just one guest, you would make sure he could be there..Kate sickens me.

My favorite part:

"It may be tough to admit, but the best parents understand that a stable marriage is the only true way to protect the interests of their children. The marriage is the foundation on which this family rests - not the financial security of future seasons on TLC, or syndication fees or additional book deals and speaking gigs.

America doesn't need a reality show about a failed marriage and eight children shuffling back and forth between their parents' separate homes. The best thing we could do for the Gosselins is to boycott their show, cause their ratings to plummet and give them the gift of a failed series in favor of a successful marriage."

Also when the "chopper" people came to her house why would she sit on a scooter in a MINI skirt. I am 35 only a year older than Kate and I am not trying to brag but when I told my husband her age he was said "ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I thought she was 10 years older than you!" She does not look 34 at all.

I know it's not really "press" per se but I would encourage everyone to either read again, or read for the first time, the blog of Aunt Jodi's sister which you can click on right here from the GWoP home page; just look to the right column. To anybody new, Jodi's sister has some good background info, from the family's point of view, on how the mess turned into such a bigger mess as each filming season of J&KPlus8 led to another. Oh, and by the way, Jodi is the one with her husband in the radaronline videos; her husband is Kate Gosselin's brother. If you watched any of the earlier seasons of the show, Aunt Jodi was often in the episodes and, might I say, was quite loved by many viewers (and still is). I've read a couple of times through the many current comments on several threads of GWoP that they're apparently making an appearance on The Early Show tomorrow. My opinion is that they spoke up in the nick of time, after being very quiet and holding their tongues for a long while. Jodi and Kevin's focus is on their nephews and nieces...the Gosselin children.

(That's my synopsis, anyway!)

99 out of 100 of their fans would say this is too painful to watch.

I just finished watching Jodi and Kevin on The Early Show. It was an outstanding interview and they were genuine in their concern for their children and addressed several times the need for laws to protect minors on Reality TV shows.

My hope is this: That an eager lawmaker in Pennsylvania will jump on the bandwagon and get something going to protect the kids.

The more that is said in mainstream media about the lack of laws needed the better. Jon and Kate will not do what is right for their kids, perhaps it's time the State of Pennsylvania stepped up to the plate.

From Radar online-

While the premiere of the fifth season of Jon & Kate Plus 8 drew a record 9.8 million viewers, Jon and Kate Gosselin are inflicting child abuse on their brood through the constant filming for the reality show, an expert exclusively tells RadarOnline.com. While the family gets many perks -- from free trips to free clothes
-- the eight kids are being subjected to an environment that could inflict potentially long-term emotional damage.

“I don’t care if the father goes out and gets run over, or the mother shoots herself, that’s their choices. They’re adults. These poor children are being televised. It’s outrageous. Of course it has an effect.” Dr. Michael Brody, Media Chairman of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry said. He believes that the scrutiny, attention, and responsibilities placed on the children “is child abuse.”

“It creates a family situation where things are not genuine. This kind of behavior makes people into great actors and actresses, living this double life.” he added, commenting on the potential disparity between what is caught on camera versus the actual reality of Gosselins’ day-to-day lives.

“Here you have a situation where there is no privacy. The worst parts of their lives are probably picked up for the TV show because that makes good drama. [The kids will] learn how to deal with each of the parents in a certain way that is scripted and false and then they develop a false sense of themselves. They will not have real relationships with either parent.”

Brody -- who has never spoken with the Gosselins -- wrote Messages: Self Help Through Popular Culture and teaches a course on Children and Media at the University of Maryland. Even in normal situations he notes that “family life has become nothing more than career development
- in terms of what camps the kids go to so they can get into a better college.”

In the extreme case of the Gosselins, that concept is taken to a whole different level. “This is just too much enhancement and these kids are too young, they’re helpless. They’re not given any choice in this. Some of the kids might like the attention but this just doesn’t work. This show is just outrageous.”

So five seasons in, Brody only sees one possible solution to help better the children’s lives: “The only way to help these kids is to get them off television. Somebody should intercede, some organization. The show should stop, aren’t there child labor laws? Can’t these kids have some protection?”

Click here to see what the kids’ uncle has to say about the situation.

Watched the Early Show interview this morning.... BIG KUDOS to Kevin & Jodi for being brave enough to go on national tv to inform the public of this train wreck. I hope they dont' receive any backlash from J&K now and I hope they get the rest of America to wake up about these 2 nitwits!! More importantly though, maybe it will bring spotlight to the fact that there needs to be more protection for these kids as far as them working.

So my hat goes off to Kevin & Jodi!

K8TERH8TER said...

Ok let me get this straight...Kate was upset that Jon "needed a weekend away", yet next week's episode Kate travels to the spa in LA with Mady(won't that be loads of fun) cuz' SHE needs a weekend away??? First of all...hasn't she been AWAY for enough weekends already? Secondly, whoever said that this is nothing but damage control on TLC's part is sooo on the money! I know it's terrible to say, but a weekend with Mady may bring on more stress, not take it away. (I do think that poor child has problems...which were most likely brought on by both her mother and the show itself.) A weekend away alone with Kate is definitely the last thing that poor child needs! You can tell already that the show is struggling for ideas and it is getting rather dumb. There is no longer a family unit so TLC is forced to come up with ploys where one parent does things separately from the other, but tries to make it look like it's something that was planned and enjoyable. Then the family left behind will be delighted to have "quality time" with the other parent. The episode will end with squeals of delight when Kate and Mady return home and everyone says that they were missed. Kisses all around! (well except for John. He will get the evil eye and be sent back outside to the doghouse) I do believe ratings went thru the roof just because people were curious to see what would be said regarding all the past rumors. Perhaps the next few weeks people may still tune in. But...if the episodes are as slow and boring as this last one was...I see the numbers dropping like hot potatoes! Better start looking for a real job KON. I do believe your 15 minutes are just about up!! I'm sure there is another train wreck out there somewhere just waiting to pull up to the station. You can bet your bottom dollar that the network is already on the hunt for new, damaged goods to develop a sick, twisted tv show around. It's just a matter of time before the KONpound goes on the market!! Oh, and another thing...the basement carpet in that house must REEK of dog pee! Kate says the girls (I'm assuming she means M and C)are pretty good at cleaning up the dog mess. Um...dabbing a paper towel over urine on the carpet IS NOT cleaning up the mess. UGH! The smell on a hot summer day is going to be lovely! The people at TLC are not idiots. They see the same crazy parents and 'goings-on' that we do, only with dollar signs. Kate, honey, right now you are putting (organic) food on their family tables. You must realize that you are a joke to everyone, don't you??? Your TLC family is stroking your ego now, but eventually you will get tossed out with the garbage when the $$ stop pouring in to the network. One day you will wake up from your dream (and your childrens' nightmare) and feel so alone. I hope you remember this: Your family (and the rest of the world) tried to save you from yourself. I guess some people just can't be saved. So sad.

I just watched the interview on The Early Show. Kevin made an extremely interesting point that I had never considered before. He said something about realizing later in life that all of the vacations, outings, and birthday parties you had experienced as a child were all coordinated to get higher ratings. I do NOT like that these children are growing up in the spotlight, but I do not doubt that Jon & Kate really do love their children. However, if any of these children grow up to be insecure, I'm sure that they will definitely question their parents' true intentions when remembering all of the "fun things" they did as children. Very sad.

Jon Gosselin's ex-boss says Kate kept husband on very short leash

TLC
Jon and Kate Gosselin star in 'Jon & Kate Plus 8,' on TLC. Jon Gosselin didn't leave his job to be a stay-at-home dad, as he claimed on the season premiere of "Jon & Kate Plus Eight." Us Weekly tracked down Gosselin's old boss, David Rothermel, who says Jon Gosselin was fired for misuing company resources. Us magazine says Jon and Kate Gosselin concocted a story that Jon left the company because it wouldn't insure the sextuplets.

Rothermel also claims that Kate Gosselin kept her husband on a $5 a day allowance, and that once during her pregnancy, she stormed into the office -- bed rest be damned -- and yelled at Jon because his father failed to deliver her lunch.

momof3kidsand3dogs said...

Just a question regarding the E! show about J&K+8 on this Friday: Do Jon and Kate have any say as to the content of this program? Do they have to give final approval or can this really be a "tell all" expose? I wasn't sure how these things worked.

CBS news:

CBS) The eight children of Jon and Kate Gosselin are being exploited and viewed as commodities, all in the name of ratings, Kate's brother and sister-in-law charged on The Early Show Wednesday.

Kevin Kreider, Kate's younger brother, and Kreider's wife, Jodi Kreider, told co-anchor Harry Smith they're speaking out now because they think it's high-time for laws protecting children who appear in reality shows such as TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8." They say they want to be the "voice" of the Gosselin youngsters.

They say they're already seeing signs of adverse effects on the Gosselins' sextuplets and twins of having TV cameras constantly capturing the lives of all the Gosselin family members.

Tabloid reports claim the show is also impacting the Gosselin marriage. Both are said to be having or have had affairs. Both deny it.

All the controversy surrounding the show helped it draw record ratings Monday night for the premiere of its fifth season. Almost 10 million viewers tuned in, "good numbers for network TV, pure gold on cable," observes CBS News correspondent Michelle Gielan. "To put that in perspective, the show set a ratings record just two years ago with just under 3 millions viewers."

Go to the link at the top of the home page to watch Jodi and Kevin on CBS early show. Really listen and take notes. Perfect examples of what YOU could say in emails to congress about getting some laws in place to protect children from the consequences of reality tv.

It's not hard to find the emails of the PA legislature, or even US congress. Google it. (Contact info)

Also, Google "Coogan's Bill" in CA.
That is the Child Actor Protection Law there that also protects minors in reality shows.

Good job everyone who is emailing the sponsors, TLC, Zondervan, Figure 8, lawmakers, etc.

Let's see some good come of this for the children!

Thank you to Jodi and Kevin for taking the time to express their views regarding children being involved in reality shows including their nieces and nephews. They have validated many of the thoughts that people have regarding the children and the cameras.

“To longtime viewers of the show, one of the ongoing discussion points is Kate’s treatment of Jon,” she said. “There was always this underlying suspicion that something is wrong here As several of us have pointed out numerous times, if Jon treated Kate in the same manner that Kate treats Jon, you would hear howls of spousal abuse being raised. Why not in this case? Why the silence?

Anaylsis and advice from a pro. She examines their original wedding vows and their Hawaii vow renewals (9 months ago!)

"This is a sad reality, but what I think most impacts their marriage are Jon's unfulfilled dreams. He himself shares that he really never had the chance to find a career path, thus he hasn't fulfilled his "provider" role that was so important to him. He has become Kate's reluctant sidekick, while she has found her passion and her career as a celebrity, author, and mentor for other mothers. By allowing Kate's career to take over the family, Jon has lost the space to develop a separate sense of himself as a man, father, or husband. He is only defined by those around him."

Thank you, Whoopi!

Let us not forget to include TLC/Discovery on our digust with this farce - after all, without them, there wouldn't be this particular train wreck of a show. I hope when those kids grow up there will be a way they can sue the pants of this network for enabling this abuse.

Concerned wife and mommy said: Hmmmmm.... so all the people who discredited Kevin and Jodi because they appeared in Star, what will they say now that it is the Early Show?
On a shallow note, I like Aunt Jodi's hair.
_____________________________________

I'm so glad they went on there this morning and they both did an excellent job! I had written to GMA (who didn't seem to have a Kate infatuation like Today does) with the idea to interview Kevin & Jodi and the very next day they did a feature story on Kon! (sigh)

On another shallow note: How does the Early Show survive against GMA and Today? This was the 1st time I've ever watched and was completely unimpressed with the dull and unprofessional banter between Julie Chen, Woman #2, and the guy. (Or Larry, Daryl, & Daryl, as I've chosen to refer to them.) I was so relieved they did the Kreider interview early so I could put myself out of the misery of watching.

ErinNYC said...

I can't believe Jodi came right out and said that the kids' birthday parties, outings, etc. were just for ratings. Even if that's true, she went too far in saying that. I have no doubt Mady/Cara will see these interviews, and the kids will in the future. They don't need to hear that on top of everything else. I wish they could be supportive in a less public way.

Ice Angel said...

Ugh....this whole situation has gotten really crazy. Kevin finally made me realize the ramifications of this mess. When he talked about them looking back on their vacation memories and parties and just life in general, that the kids will see everything as staged, that got to me. Very Truman Show.

I know I have defending them for a while, not being a sheeple, but really liked the show and never really thought Kate was all that bad. She picked on him a LOT, but also had a sassiness and dry sense of humor about her that I liked.

I think Jody and Kevin have really made me see the light. I feel so bad for these little kids. As much as I selfishly want to watch them grow up, I can't sit by and watch them go through this crap on national television. They all deserve so much better.

Jon and Kate-you shared your children with us and we have appreciated it. Now it is time to take them back and raise them in privacy. While we will miss them terribly, they do not belong to us. They do not owe us anything. They simply need to be happy and grow. Please end the show as soon as possible, work on your marriage/divorce whatever it is in private and live in peace. Kate-trust me-the paparazzi will go away if you do.

Can TruthBreedsHatred (Aunt Jodi's sister) confirm whether or not Kevin and Jodi received money for radaronline videos and this mornings CBS show appearance? I'm just wondering because people are now ragging on them for coming forward and profiting from this exploitation too. I don't believe that, but comments are popping up about it on CBS and all. If they did get paid for their appearances, what do they plan on doing with that money? I think what they're doing is right but others think that they shouldn't bring more attention to a private matter between brothers and sisters.

OK, as a nurse myself I am angry about the former patient speaking out... many of my patients probably wouldn't have nice things to say about me since I try to insist that they follow their diet plan and do what they should to halt progression of their diseases... many of them refuse to do that and expect the nurse to clean up the mess they've made... Sorry that just hit a nerve with me... way to go, you have as little class as Kate!

I said weeks ago when all the hoopla about Kevin and Jodi on Radar Online began that Kevin and Jodi would, at this point, take any opportunity they could to get their foot through the door on the sheer chance it could possibly lead to more mainstream media exposure over the REAL issues they wanted to bring to the forefront. Did they enjoy having to do that? I seriously doubt it - but when you have been screaming at the top of your lungs for a year and finally (!) someone, anyone takes notice - you will breathe a sigh of relief take that chance.

They did, they succeeded, and they are doing exactly what they set out to do the moment Radar Online came knocking. For that, I applaud them.

I can't believe that people are criticizing Jodi and Kevin. Do you really think the kids don't already know everything they are saying? Do you think the kids haven't figured out that they only get to do "family stuff" when the cameras are rolling? The kids live this every day, and it will continue until someone puts a stop to it.

Jodi and Kevin are quite right to personalize the issues involved here in order to increase support for legislation protecting child tv stars--especially child tv stars who did not choose to be performers and have absolutely no say in the matter.

Figure 8 Films, TLC and Discovery should own their part in exploiting children, adults, the disadvantaged. At times, it seems very obvious there is something not quite right with Kate. TLC uses and manipulates this whole family for profit, it has become disgusting. They took Kate's flaws and egged her on. You can almost hear the producers egging Kate on to tear Jon down or provide more biting sarcasm--even to the expense of her children's egos.
I'm thankful Jodi and Kevin stepped up to do the right thing, I wish Kate's whole family would say enough is enough.
Kate's Mr. Gray must make over a thousand dollars A DAY. He seems like he is nothing more than a paid companion or is there more? It seems the Gosselin's problems really got worse when we seen the APPEARANCE of Steve Neild around the time of the Utah trips.
At this time, we see Beth and Jodi no longer on the show and Steve taking a larger role. Hmmm.

Ava2 said...

After watching Kevin & Jodi's interview on the morning show, I'm more convinced than ever that the Gosselin kids have been hurt by the show. The kids are suffering and the show should be stopped. One way to end all these shows like Toddlers & Tiaras is to STOP WATCHING. We should also STOP TALKING about it here. Just coming here and posting is perpetuating the whole thing.

Let's put an end to what has become just plain morbid curiosity. I mean, who really cares if they divorce or not? Let's just stop watching and posting and hope it somehow sends a message to TLC that these shows are not what we want.

What have we become?

I don't know which station is lower class, TLC or Bravo. How many "Housewives" shows are we sick enough to watch? So far I've noticed:

Housewives of New York
Housewives of New Jersey
Housewives of Atlanta

Shows like Bachelorette/Bachelor, Tory & Dean, 17 & Counting, Little People, etc., aren't we saturated enough with "reality" shows? Are our lives so empty that we have to tune in to watch these mindless and selfish people?

My husband would die for a $5 a day allowance!

That is $150 a month. With the economy and two kids and now on one income and my husbands salary was lowered for the same job. He is ecstatic to get $5 evah!

It sounds like this allowance was way before the tups anyway. I'm sure she is a controlling biotch but I think people will assume this is recently.

Also, just saw the California preview again and Jon clearly states that him and the rest of the kids stayed at home and they show the kids in the driveway.

So either they did not tape this when they were all in ca in March or the footage is a complete fabrication. Maybe something in the episode will let us know when it was taped.

I noticed the comments on CBS too, saying that they are just talking because they are getting paid or because they didn't get paid for being on the show yada, yada, yada...I guess that is the only way the sheeple and Kate's PR people can make themselves feel better.

Hopefully, the legislative types will hear their message and not care whether or not they were paid. I'm just glad they are getting the message out there and I hope they don't listen to all the sheeple bashing them. Sheeple don't count - law makers do.

If the show must go on, hopefully there will be legislation soon to protect the Gosselin 8 and all children in reality tv everywhere.

Everyone, I really and truely believe TLC is going to push the Gosselin show to the limits this summer. They are going to do whatever they can to get/keep the high ratings. I honestly think we will see the END of this fiasco by summer's end. The 6 'littles' start school full-times this fall, so it will be too hard to tape a show anymore. I think a divorce will be announced around that time as well...let's face it...we all know inside that one is imminent. The show will go out with a bang...and TLC will laugh all the way to the bank and the 8 kids will cry all the way to therapy. (and with any luck Jon and Kate will slither back under the rocks they came out from!) THE END

Jodie and Kevin did a wonderful and graceful job this morning. They made their point without being nasty, or even putting Kate down in the least. The reporter was awesome too. Those two are really great people and it's more then obvious they are only worried for the kids. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't paid a dime for the interviews they've done.

Kate gave Jon only $5.00 a day as an allowance. This while he had a job and she didn't!
In addition, in anger, she locked him out of their house while the TV crew was there.
In addition, his father's friend gave them a van and never got a thank you.
In addition, while she was on bed rest with the tups, she got up and went to Jon's place of work to berate him that Jon's father never brought her a lunch!
This poor excuse for a human needs serious psychiatric evaluation--she has ice water running through her veins!

And to Lisbeth, ITA with you. Those who are criticizing Kevin and Jodi are aiming at the wrong targets.

As easy as it was for Kate to write off her parents and siblings,
it would take a miracle for her to forgive Jon. I also believe they will divorce unless through counseling she can come to terms with herself. If Jon can't contribute to her "bottom line" she won't need him and he seems to be done with her anyway.

The poor kids are caught up in this miserable drama.

Couple of thoughts I've been pondering....

~ How the bleep is being filmed for a reality show, receiving free things out the wazoo, and riding 4-wheelers and motorcycles mosts days, now considered a "career"?
( Jon Gosselin, "My life is also my career" )

~ Jon: "If I paid you $20,000, who knows what you would say."
Well... isn't that the same thing YOU are doing? Getting paid $75,000a week to say things that aren't true and do things you know are wrong?

~ These two goobers could have jumped ship after season 4 and gone away and none of this would be happening now. But they chose to stay greedy and wanted more more more...and now look. It's like a house of cards. They should've stopped, but wanted to pile on more, and now it's falling apart.

I am not new to the show and I am not a sheeple, but i believe kevin and jodie are angry at not getting paid, because if they were okay about no money then why are they not on the show anymore, especially if they are so concerned about the children, why wouldn't you be there all the time ensuring their safety??? Again, thank you Kevin and Jodi for enduring unpleasant public scrutiny in an effort to call attention to the exploitation of your nieces and nephews.

I wrote to ABC regarding the Kreider's interview and expressed my great relief that the story was, at long last, focusing on the exploitation of the children. I have included the link below for anyone interested in sharing their views with Good Morning America.

The Gosselin children clearly need adults to intervene on their behalf. Laws need to be passed and the exploitation needs to stop.

Again, I applaud you both for the difficult task you have untaken and the unwanted media exposure you now must suffer. Be strong and know that many of us in the background are cheering you on.

I think the kids will one day figure out how manufactured things are (if they don't already). There is no way to know what eight individuals will think in the future. However, if it were me, it would mean a lot to hear Kevin and Jody exposing the show and standing up for the kids.

I wonder if it's occurred to Kate that the reason her kids have meltdowns is that they don't really want to perform.

Wow! That etsy forum is closed to comments now, but... wow! Kate's sister (bddesigns)
accused posters of slander and wrote "If you attack my sister, you attack me."

Question: if you were trying to sell jewelry online, would you accuse people of slander or alienate potential customers on a forum? Future sales be damned, I suppose.

Those sisters aren't very bright, are they?

Also, the smirks on Kate's former coworkers' faces tell the whole story, don't they?

Finally, the fake smiles in that J & K pic just look creepy. You can tell if a smile is fake or not: the entire face smiles, not just the mouth and eyes. I learned that on that social science series about "The Face" a few years ago.

So what if the Kreiders got paid. Don't you think they will need money for their cause? To save the children? If you think they are exploiting the children, what better way to exploit them by using the children's money to get them off tv.

TLC does NOT care if you write/email them. You are wasting your time. IT IS NOW TIME FOR ALL PA RESIDENTS TO FLOOD THEIR ELECTED OFFICIALS WITH CALLS/EMAILS TO BEGIN LEGISLATION TO END CHILD EXPLOITATION. CALL IT THE GOSSELIN LAW. If kate wants a tv show to further show her stupidity, let her try; perhaps there would be viewers. She is so stupid, she hasn't a clue that she is one of the most reviled women in America.

But on a more serious note. The more information that comes out the more I think Jon is an abused husband. It's sad... Cut off from family and friends, slapped, ordered around, ALWAYS being criticized, and now Us Weekly is saying he had a $5 daily allowence.

I hope Jon can get some help for the abuse Kate put him through.

time to end it said...

jon is entitled to half of all assets accrued during the marriage. he is also the primary caregiver, and has ample footage to support that claim. kate sees her children as a marketing tool to further her own agenda. as with her other family members, when they have fulfilled their usefulness, they are discarded (parents, siblings, husband, children, and so on). it is so obvious that she does not want to be at home with her kids! please remember that the bday party they had the other day, wasn't held on their actual bday (which was mother's day). She tried to imply that jon chose not to be with the kids on their bday (which he was, and is documented that she spent their bday in NYC). kate is going to be in some serious financial trouble, once the divorce is paid for (atty's fees, anyone??), the assets of the marriage are split (can anyone say 'new house'?), and custody issues are resolved...hey kate, can you say ALIMONY??? how about child support for EIGHT kids? karma is coming after you kate, and it won't be pretty. we will all be watching, and the crocodile tears won't work with us.jon, the majority are on your side. take charge of your kids, for their future's sake.

Doesn’t look like TLC wants to address the issue of the ‘destruction of family values’ or ‘child exploitation’. The Greedy Gosselins are going along with it for the money so it’s really up to The Discovery Channel/TLC and their sponsors to pull the plug.

In the meantime; I understand that the execs at Discovery/TLC read these blogs and I for one would like to give them something other than evidence of a possible ratings increase, because we all know that’s what they are concerned about.

Note to Kate Gosselin: Once Discovery/TLC drops you; your circle of ‘friends’ will not only be smaller it will be empty.

To the point:
I would like to list a possible alternate TV viewing schedule for your entertainment.
Please feel free to add to this list and post it in any and all sites that Discovery/TLC may see. Maybe us, the viewers can focus our attention towards shows I feel are worthy of watching while the Greedy Gosselins fade away and the children get some much need peace and quiet.

Here are a few of my favorite shows that also have a new season that I recommend watching:

STYLE NETWORK (They don’t exploit children)Clean House – Watch the clean up crew help homeowners with their clutter. They are funny and Niecy Nash is truly a class act.

Peter Perfect - Peter Ishkhan helps struggling business owners by suggesting a few business tips along with a fabulous business and personal makeover.

Split Ends – Watch hairstylist as they switch places. Similar to Wife Swap but it is job swap instead. Entertaing.

OXYGEN (no evidence of child exploitation here either) Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood – Tori Spelling& Dean McDermott are hilarious; They hold down several jobs each and they appear to be terrific parents to their 2 small children and don’t exploit them. This show also shows Tori actually writing her new book ‘MommyWood’.

For Beverly Hills 90210 fans, reruns are on constantly throughout the day & night on The SOAP channel along with:
• The O.C. and
• One Tree Hill.

BRAVO (no child exploitation here either)Dr. 90210 (Dr. Rey)
Project Runway
Make Me A Supermodel
The Real Housewives of … New Jersey, New York, Atlanta, etc…

Please add to the list of suggested viewing and re-post.

What about the breach of working lenghty hours just to get that good "take" on film. This excerpt is from the law, do they not consider children being prompted to act work. THEY ARE WORKING B/C THEY ARE RENDERING A SERVICE (ACTING)AND ARE GETTING PAID FOR THEIR SERVICES!

"No minor under sixteen years of age shall be employed or permitted to work in, about, or in connection with, any establishment or in ANY occupation before seven o'clock in the morning or after seven o'clock in the evening of any day except during school vacation period from June to Labor Day when such minor may work between the hours of seven o'clock in the morning and ten o'clock in the evening nor shall such minor who is enrolled in school and working outside school hours be employed or permitted to work in, about, or in connection with, any establishment or in any occupation more than four hours on a school day, or more than eight hours on any other day, or more than eighteen hours during a school week: "

HAS ANYONE contacted the PA State Politicians on this issue? You know they may very well enact a law if it will benefit a vote.

Can we send a separate packet of mail to them Serena?

Thank you. I wish we could all picket them in front of TLC Headquarters.

Sorry folks, but we're guilty of exploiting this family. That is by reading about them, watching them on t.v., and yes, even writing about them here. If all this just stopped...the show, the articles, the blogs, I guarantee they they would float out to space and never been heard from again. As long as we keep them alive by beating a bunch of dead horses, they'll be around. This all is publicity for them...the good, the bad, the ugly.

Did anyone check the credits for the most recent episode and see if Jon and/or Kate were listed as producers? It was my understanding they'd be producers as of this season.

If they're both listed as producers, then maybe we're being scammed for the sake of publicity. If only one is listed, then maybe not. If neither is listed...hmmmm.

Can someone who has TIVOed the show quickly check and see who the producers are?

I watched the Jodi and Kevin interview and you can see the pain in their eyes. I'm sure there was much more they could've said if they wanted to be mean or create even more publicity. It seems that they've tried to communicate to Kate and Jon their feelings about the show and the effect on the children, but they were told MYOB.
I think that going to the media is a last resort for them--to try to help their nieces and nephews--and even Kate and Jon.
As for the original dispute over money--I think the thing that bothered Kevin and Jodi wasn't so much the money, but that Kate lied to them about it--by witholding information. Also, Jodi's sister did say that Jodi still offered to watch the children for free--just off-camera. But, oh no--Kate was not going to have that--she would rather pay strangers who will sign confidentiality agreements and let the children be even more available for filming.
Overall, I'm actually saddened that it's come to this--as much as I wanted to see the show stopped and enactment of laws to protect children working in "reality" entertainment, I never wanted to witness the destruction of a marriage and the fracturing of a family.

From usmagazine.com just now...
"Despite the current season's depressing undertone and concerns that the children are being exploited, TLC says it has no plans to end Jon & Kate Plus 8. (Monday's fifth season premiere attracted 9.8 million viewers - more than double the audience for its fourth-season finale several weeks ago.)

"The show's ratings have grown consistently, as there has been interest in these real-life issues of this real-life family," TLC said in a statement to E! News on Wednesday. "We will continue to air as the interest continues, and the family wants to do it."

See Jon and Gosselin through the years

The network also confirmed that there would be a whopping 40 episodes, double the previous season order.

The post about the PA child labor laws was useful; however there are exceptions for work on a farm, I think. Perhaps their huge acreage qualifies as a "farm" and thus they can get around the child labor laws.

I watched the CBS interview with Jodi and Kevin and I teared up when Kevin and Jodi both got emotional in calling their nieces and nephews commodities. IMO it has nothing to do with them wanting to get paid. When they were involved in the filming the kids weren't filmed as much as they were in Season 4 and now Season 5. Season 4 had two separate filming schedules I'm not sure if the # is correct but 50/30 filming days (around 80 days). That is alot of time in front of the camera for those kids. My worst nightmare is that Kate will film alone w/the 8 kids. I would rather see her get the talk show she has so wanted and just keep her kids at home and away from cameras. What I have noticed regarding the Roloffs and filming their kids is they film end of May, throughout the summer,beginning of school and pumpkin season w/Christmas and Thanksgiving episodes thrown in. This family mingles w/the "masses" and are very comfortable w/meeting new people. How would J&K react with thousands of people trampling on their acreage and actually exposing their kids to "actual normal human beings?" They've created this isolation their kids now have to deal with. This is why I think Jodi and Kevin are speaking out because they see that these children are only going to become more isolated and will never be able to live life normal again. This is why Jodi and Kevin are asking for some sort of legislation to protect exploitation of minor children in reality t.v. shows. Jodi and Kevin are not the villans here TLC, Jon and Kate are. I, also, am proud to say that I wasn't one of the 9M viewers that tuned in on Monday.

CBS/The Early Show DO NOT pay for interviews. They may pay for expenses, travel, meals, hotel accomodations, but they do not pay for interviews.

Same as Jon and Kate get/got on their rounds of all talk shows.

If you think Kevin and Jodi got paid, then you have to concede Jon and Kate did too.

Oh wait - I forgot - TLC DOES pay them for 10K every interview they give to any source because it is part of their agreement as compensation for promotion of the show.

Well, that's OK...We know Kevin and Jodi aren't promoting a show, and clearly not getting paid by TLC, so that settles that.

Well, I quit. Thanks for everything, but I have had enough of this icky voyeristic feeling.

And don't give me the excuse that Kate banned them, family is family no matter what.

**********************

You're kidding right? I have a drug addict relative who isn't getting near my kids. That's a far cry from what's going on here, but when it is your kids and you dont want someone around them or influencing them, they don't.

Also, what you and everyone else seems to ignore has been repeated countless times...so here it goes again and please, listen closely this time...

Kevin and Jodi voiced concerns about the exposure and kids' grueling schedule LONG before any money or contract issues were brought to their attention. MONTHS BEFORE. This is when that initial tode began to change evident to viewers "Jodi, bless her heart....were the suckers organic??? oh myyyyy..." Their concern did not sit well with Kate. She wanted them out - as she wants anyone who dares threaten her gravy train with something (in her mind) as trivial as what is best for the kids.

She wanted them out then - she began pushing them out then.

The whole money issue was just her way of sealing the deal. Kevin and Jodi, once they saw the deal Kate made of it backed away and said "you know what? forget it...we will keep doing things as we have been for the past three years" JUST so they could keep an eye on the kids and be a safe haven for them but no, that wasn't good enough for Kate - she had a reason she could finally point to besides her own selfishness (which was truly at the core and she and everyone around them knew it) so she USED that excuse, pushed Kevin and Jodi away, and allowed Jenny to come in as a PAID BY TLC assistant to watch the kids all the times Jodi would normally have been the one to do it -- obviously because surrounding herself with PAID TLC "Yes Men" like the PA's, crew and producers was much easier than dealing with pesky relatives who actually loved the kids for something more than the DOLLARS they could put in their pockets.

Yes, I saw that too. Very disturbing. I bet he was trying to remember his lines for the day. Sad. I have much less of a problem with Bravo, at the very least the Housewives focus completely on the "adults" and show the kids very little. Also Bravo has mostly the competition reality shows which I admit that I love, probably because people have to have some sort of skill.

Consenting adults can have their lives taped all they want (and even they only film for a couple months out of the year) and they can do with the money they make whatever they want. Children are a completely different story.

For the record I am so sick of people talking about how the kids would have suffered without the show because they wouldn't have had so much money. Last I checked, kids who live in loving homes that are worth much less than 1 million dollars surrounded by family are vastly better off and happier. Even if they have to *gasp* share a bathroom.

Even though the children still would have been stuck with the short straw parentwise, at least they would have had privacy and room to grow without the world watching.

Mommy Dearest Kate, Your son is stressed out and you are to blame! Deadbeat dad Jon, stop thinking with your nether regions and put your kids first."

I just love little Collin and when I saw that, it shook me up. With how he lines things up and they say he'll be an engineer, but then with that rocking motion, I wondered to myself if it could possibly be that he's in the (autistic) spectrum but I didn't want to speculate. Something's up with that and, dear God, if it's stress for the poor sweetie, why Why WHY can't his own parents see what WE'RE seeing out here in the viewing audience? I'm actually holding back tears while I write this; perhaps we're seeing what Jodi and Kevin have been noticing all along.

Children...they are such precious gifts. Many, many people want children and, for a variety of reasons medically or otherwise, simply can't. It's heartbreaking...just rip-out-your-guts wrong...when children aren't cherished and protected by their own parents.

The killer is that BOTH Jon and Kate say that all they care about is their kids. Well, then...WALK THE TALK. I'm sick of those empty statements from them!

'This is a sad reality, but what I think most impacts their marriage are Jon's unfulfilled dreams. He is only defined by those around him.'
*********************************

Maybe there's still hope for Jon. Whereas I think Kate is a lost cause, and as much as I want so much of the time to pound him against a wall to knock some sense into him (I'm really not a violent person), Jon gets to me. There's a lot I like about him. He wanted the kids to get dirty, play and have fun. Yes, he allowed himself to be manipulated but I think he's getting wiser and I have faith that he will be a good dad to those kids even yet...once they are not his entire identity. I just have to have hope, somewhere in this.

"Jon and Kate-you shared your children with us and we have appreciated it. Now it is time to take them back and raise them in privacy. While we will miss them terribly, they do not belong to us. They do not owe us anything. They simply need to be happy and grow. Please end the show as soon as possible, work on your marriage/divorce whatever it is in private and live in peace. Kate-trust me-the paparazzi will go away if you do."

minnow said...

let me write my comment the way Kate would put things... (by asking my own questions and answering them).

Is kate really that dense? maybe, maybe not. even through indirect answers, viewers can see that Jon desperately wants out of the show and everything that comes with it. everyone can also see that it is the show that is breaking their family apart. kate might be too dense to realize it or too stubborn to admit that the show is the root of the problem. but if there's no show, there's no money, there's no "WORK" and no books, and no fans and no continual ego feeding

Is there love for the kids? despite jon's supposed affair, it is clear that his dedication and love for his kids are sincere. referring to the most recent episode when Collin (i think) says, "Thank you, mommy" for their bday party, Kate is staring off into space ignoring the poor kid until another mom chimes in and says, "Oh that's so sweet!" at which then, Kate coddles the kid w/ smooches. it may be just one incident, but it translates into so much more.

Did kate push jon to do what he did (if he did)? kate's answer was this, "yes, no, yes, no.. maybe, but probably no". Yes, we are all responsible for our own actions. Jon was responsible for making bad decisions, but Kate is responsible for treating her husband like CRAP! He's even spewing out her own words, "i can't even write, some would say i cant even talk, or breathe". that sentence alone was so pathetic. his face screams 10 years of badgering.

if there's anything i've "LEARNED" from this show, it's "HOW TO TURN YOUR FAMILY INTO A FREAK SHOW AND THEN SELF DESTRUCT PUBLICALLY FOR LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY".

p.s. did anyone else notice kate saying, "Hurry so we can avoid the PAPARAZZI" to the kids. she then scolded Joel(i think) for saying the "what's paparazzi"?? First of all, you fed that word into their heads. where else would they learn that word? Secondly, Is it really 'NORMAL' for your 5 yr old kid to know what paparazzi is?! What's so "REALITY" about this supposed "REAL FAMILY" now that they have this media circus surrounding them?? REALLY?? i'd rather watch snails crawl.

JodiAndKevinAreUnselfish said...

The flurry of press and media about the Gosselin mess is disturbing but, the way I'm looking at it is not so much a witch hunt for Jon and Kate but a real eye opener about child exploitation on television. I don't like it that the kids are forced into doing things for a camera when they really don't even have an ability yet, due to their ages, to have a voice about it. They're not property...you don't "own" them like dogs. Actually, I don't even like the whole idea that a dog CAN be owned like a piece of property...not when they have little souls and have emotions not unlike humans. We just have to change the way we treat children and domestic animals in this country. We'd all eat better, too, if livestock could be treated more humanely. But now I'm getting off subject...

...because mostly I want to say BRAVO, BRAVO, Kevin and Jodi for conducting yourself with dignity, courtesy and compassion on The Early Show on behalf of your nieces and nephews! I don't give a rat's tushy if you got paid; more power to you. You can't make this stuff up...we know that. Your emotion and concern was real. Some day, when the Gosselin children are grown, crying out with real pain to any of their relatives, "Why didn't you step in to help us when you saw what was going on and how miserable we were! Didn't you care about us?" you will be able to tell them how hard you tried to put a light on their plight, and they'll be able to watch these video clips to see that you spoke...amid inevitable criticism and further alienation...and raised concern on their behalf.

I feel bad for you and all of your family that the Gosselin problems have had to be YOUR problems these past few years when you have your own families and lives to deal with in hard-enough times. Nobody needs extra burdens.

Please tell the Gosselin kids when they're grown how much we enjoyed, for a little while, seeing them grow up until we realized it wasn't good for them and they needed to live privately. And how much, and by so many, we wish and hope for a happy life for them.

Kevin and Jodi deserve kudos and more for speaking out for these kids. Somebody posted earlier and I can't find the post right now (it accused them of being in it for the money) but it had several replies already; I need to add my 2 cents worth.

If they were in this for the money we would have known a long time ago. They would have been selling dirt to any mag they could on the fake aspect of the show. I don't believe for one minute that these two wonderful people are in this for anything other than those kids.

What these two are doing is not easy. You can see it is hard for them. They are bringing a subject to the forefront that needs to be addressed, badly. Look at the new shows springing up already and remember Octomom, too. This is much needed attention that they are bringing to the exploitation in the only way they know how.

You will notice they did not rag on Kate unnecessarily as they could have done. Their message is not one of hate, it's one of hope that somebody will take note and pass the laws needed to protect these kids, who are also their family.

I am very proud of them. I think they are good people and that they deserve alot of credit for their willingness to speak out.

Any fears that J & K speaking out could harm these kids is just ridiculous in the face of what their two idiot parents are doing to them.

I hope that one day laws will be passed so that this can't happen to any more kids.

So roll on, Jodi and Kevin. You are doing the right thing, and I hope you persevere until the right people take notice. Maybe we can all help out by writing to the PA legislature. I am personally not sure how to begin or who to address but will be looking into that.

TLC, we're told, wanted to show the kiddies.

Fast forward to Monday night -- Jon & Kate scored an astonishing 9.8 million viewers. TLC sources tell us it's pretty clear the J.Lo ain't gonna sell tickets anymore, so they have shelved the show. As one TLC source put it, "It was on life support for awhile, and now we've just lost interest."

We all are tv witnesses to the fact the woman hasn't really cooked...even her own family members say she can't cook. My guess is that most of the recipes we will see in her cookbook will be ones we have already come across on the panels of food boxes (and have already made) from time to time. Break out the paper plates people. It's time for a Gosselin snack!! This should bring about some good laughs!!! Poor thing. I'm really embarrassed for her.

Weekend away with Mady, is because Mady called her mom, "Kate" in Monday night's episode.

I think it is obvious that Mady has no respect for her mother. She witnesses her lying all the time. She says one thing, then does another. She expects the children to act in a certain way--to be truthful, and punishes them; when she is never truthful. Their whole lives are a lie.

Mady knows these people are lying about their values and morals. So, she doesn't feel the need to respect her parents.

They are either on their payroll; or are hangers on, who just want to be with celebrities. Jon's girlfriend is one of the later.

These folks do not love your children like you do; and they never, ever will. They will use your kids for their own purposes.

Jon and Kate, those kids did not ask to be born. You do not like being forced to do what you don't want to do. Neither do the kids. They did not ask to be celebrities. The tabloids are after you now, but they will come after your kids. The internet is full of vile comments on your kids.

Kate was ever so quick to utilize the media to respond to tabloid allegations surrounding her marriage, but suddenly the topic of media focus has shifted from KATE the 'victim' to concerns/criticisms involving the REAL 'victims' in all this, the overly exploited eight Gosselin children! Thank goodness the Gosselin children have Jodi and Kevin on their side. According to Star Magazine, Kate's brother and sister-in-law Kevin and 'Aunt' Jodi Kreider reveal:"It got so bad that Kate actually locked Jon out of the house and wouldn't let him back in for a couple of hours."

Aunt Jodi says: "She's locked him out several times. And she admitted to me that her two oldest children, Mady and Cara, knew what was going on! ... They had horrible fights Another family source reveals: "One time, Kate was so angry over some little thing that she pulled a huge drawer out of a dresser, dumped the contents on the floor, threw the drawer on top of it and stormed out of the room!"

And during filming for the reality show, "they would fight so much that sometimes the crew would have a hard time getting 15 minutes of usable footage out of an eight-hour shoot," reveals Kevin.

Jodi adds that the children are the ones who will suffer in the end: "This is a trainwreck for all to see. It's just a matter of time before the effects of all this take a huge toll on them."

Jen K - When I was watching JVM tonight - I was screaming at the TV for the same reasons you were!! Actual facts take too much time to look into, evidently!! That was a joke!! ( I think Jane gets it personally, though, thank goodness).

Kevin and Jodi did do a good job this morning on The Early Show and if this had been how they handled this issue from the beginning I would support them. I feel, however that their Radar online video interviews and the Star magazine article they did were out of line, and does not support their statement of giving the children the privacy and respect they desreve. They should have never broken the story of the "secret contract" and should not be discussing the alleged affairs or anything personel with the media. I'm disturbed that they got paid to release this, how was throwing out into public view more disturbing details helping anyone, especially the children. This has tainted them in my eyes, and it is upsetting because I really liked what I saw of Jodi on the show. I now unfortunately question their motives for speaking out. It also disturbs me that Jodis sister posted on her blog (reguarding the Star article) "I guess you weren't told who the source was when you were informed about the newest stories being released". She then in the next entry blasts Kate for not "handling it privately" and "discussing very private matters to the media". What? Please tell me, who was thinking of the children when they sold their smut to Star?
A very important thing to remember here is that their are 8 innocent children that at any point in time could be exposed to comments, videos, and articles, and while everyone has a right to their opinion and to speak their mind, we also should remember that we have a responsibility to protect and respect these children while we are doing it. I mean isn't that why you are here?, to help the children? I know anyone commenting on these or other blogs would hate to think that something nasty they wrote was viewed by anyone of those precious kids, they don't desrve it.

The cookbook is coming out in the fall so now we know why Kate had to throw in the comments about not liking the fans before but now she does. She needs to go back on the road and sell her new Crapbook to those idiots. You betcha she likes those fans now!

I stopped watching this show a while ago and I encourage everyone here, for the kids, to also stop watching this show! Let's all stand behind what Kevin and Jodi are trying to do for their nieces and nephrews!

These kids have always been exploited...Shame on Jon and Kate!

Who else is with me?

I see they are going ahead with the cookbook.

Let's help them out! Let's make some videos clips of meals in the Gosselin household! Let's relive some of those golden memories that Kate makes for her family!

Like when the kids sing her praises and thank her for the dogs, and she says, "WELL YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!"

And when the boys sat watching their sisters eat the birthday cupcakes they were denied.

Put all the clips of them eating together, and see that Kate never eats with her family....such memories!

And she is such a great cook too....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Cheese, crackers, apple slices on paper plates, with your mom yelling from the kitchen....ah the memories!

I agree here....we could add....

1) "Jodi is the baker" comment, not me

2) 4th of July when she YELLS at the kids to stop eating the fruit

3) Taking cereal away and yelling at the tup because she wants it without milk

Jen K-

I actually was disgusted by the supposed psychologist/expert on the panel of JVM.

He made some sheeple comment about the kids "not being abused. They are well fed, clothed and clearly loved by their parents...... my patients have suffered horrible physical abuse and would love to be in a situation like the Gosselin kids" . Paraphrasing, but you saw it and know what he said.

I was shocked and disgusted. I bet this supposed doctor has only watched one or two episodes at most.

~~~~~~~~
What? Seriously? Jodi and Kevin did what they should do and speak out for the childrens welfare. If anyone should be slamed for the things they are saying in the media, or ways they are presenting themselves, it should be Jon and Kate. These two idiots should be protecting their kids, and instead they are selling them to the highest bidder. Kevin and Jodi are simply trying to get this snowball to end, before the kids go crashing in to the blizzard and cannot get back out. Think about these kids....
Kevin and Jodi's concern is focused on their nieces and nephews. The critics that claim no one should ever speak out against family seem to forget that the children ARE family, and those poor kids are in dire need of adult intervention.
The children do deserve privacy and respect, but unfortunately their parents sold those commodities away when they turned their children's childhood into the family business.
Unfortunately, the only way to reclaim their privacy is to talk about it in any and every available media avenue. The subject needs to be aired out, laws need to change and the exploitation, along with the TV show, needs to end. KON made their children's lives and their failing marriage public -- no one else.
I suspect Jodi and Kevin aren't too worried about the KON supporters who claim their motives are murky. Seriously, why be concerned with selfish, jealous, ignorant fans who don't want their fun TV show taken away even if it costs eight children their emotional health?
It is quite obvious whose motives are pure and whose are self-serving.
I do think the press is making a difference. Talk about exploitation is now showing up in many different venues... morning shows, evening cable news, internet websites, blogs etc. Just a few weeks ago, the talk was almost completely focused on marriage infidelity. I am thrilled to see the words child exploitation repeatedly used in conjunction with the show. FINALLY, the attention is where it should be...stepping up to protect the kids.
From JustJared.com:
Jon & Kate: $10 Million Divorce?
Scandal-plagued pair Jon and Kate Gosselin’s may be headed for a nasty $10 million divorce, reports National Enqurier.
“Jon said their goal is to be legally separated by July 15 because Kate wants to move on quickly,” an insider reveals. “Jon is going to push for half of their money, but Kate is determined to hang on to as much as she can — and they’re worth more than you think… Needless to say, there’s a small fortune at stake here — easily $10 million. And Jon and Kate will be fighting over it like cats and dogs!”
TLC says it has plans to renew Jon & Kate Plus 8, which kicked off its fifth season on Monday to a record 9.8 million viewers - more than double the show’s previous series high.
“The show’s ratings have grown consistently, as there has been interest in these real-life issues of this real-life family,” TLC said in a statement to E! News. “We will continue to air as the interest continues, and the family wants to do it.”
I find it of interest in the Philly.com article where they say they are staying together because of the show and How True That is!... often you hear about couples who stay together because of the kids!? well this clearly goes beyond thinking about the best interest of the children, to the best interest of Kate's Bank Account.
I say hers because my gut feeling is that Jon wants to end the show..... I think it's all 'her'. She prattles on about her JOB..... kids would be better served if she went back to making Their Care her 'Job'.
I'm sure they/she could afford to do so now quite comfortably.
