The Gosselins Go Green (Recap)

Thank you Dew for the recap!

Joel's on his free bike from Ellen with training wheels, and I think he says, "On this episode of GREEN Jon and 8 Plus Eight," but it totally sounds like "bean" Jon and Kate Plus 8. Poor Joel. So, green Jon and Kate? Green as in green with envy of other wealthy Americans such that you will stop at nothing to also have their VIP vacations, mansions and cars? Perhaps green as in all the greenbacks they've made off their unsuspecting children. Or green as in I'm going to be sick if I have to listen to Kate for five more minutes.

But no, apparently it's green as in helping the environment. Okay, I'm not buying this from the very start, since in the past Jon and Kate have shown themselves to be about as green as a fire truck. Also, here's a thought. If you don't want to be a drain on the environment, don't have eight kids who will go through approximately a million and a half disposable diapers in their little lives and God knows how many paper plates.

Credits roll, and they've changed the credits parachute to green with their fancy CGI graphics. So clever of them. Alexis speaks, but not sure what she says. I am not making fun of the kids, I just honestly cannot understand them.. I hope their parents find time away from their busy exciting celebrity lifestyles to address their children's concerning speech delays.

In a shameless crossover, Steve Thomas comes over to install solar panels. Apparently Steve is from some obscure show, I'm guessing no one watches except maybe my grandpa, three of his friends, and maybe a couple of guys from high school handy with a hammer who haven't gotten married yet.

Did I mention we're between seasons? TLC can't leave their cash cows just standing around grazing for six weeks. They really cannot help themselves. The thing is TLC had a great cliffhanger at the end of last season, with Jon implying he had had it with that shrew. It does them no good to shove this family back in our faces not a few weeks later so we can all see Jon is around and nothing has changed. The whole point of cliffhangers is to leave you hanging! Speculating whether Jon left her yet and how many dogs he took with him, speculating how many college girls he made out with this time, how much beer pong he has played, things like that. Like remember the cliffhanger at the end of one of the seasons of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, where they totally made us think Sully fell off a cliff and died, and poor Dr. Mike was left all alone to raise his baby? Then we had to wait four excruciating months only to find out he just busted a couple legs? Gaah! Now that is how you work a cliffhanger.

Steve does his obligatory thirty seconds hanging out with the kids. I think Steve might like going green a little too much, make your mind up here. That's right, he tells Joel that his bike has a faster color. A faster…color? Joel looks up at him like he's a total freak, which he kind of is shaping out to be, and goes, "What? What???" Giving up on this weirdo, Joel pedals away. Ha!

Jon actually refers to the house as his crib. How old are you, Jon? But I guess I'll give him that. Once you have a house big enough to be featured on MTV, you've earned the right to call it a crib. Jon, you've arrived in the eyes of a 16-year-old. Steve explains what he is going to do with the help of a graphic. Sounds simple enough. Install solar panels. Sun heats up panels. Heat is converted into energy. Gosselins save money. Or, TLC does. Whoever is footing the utility bill. Kate complains that it is super annoying to have a bunch of people at her house giving her free stuff. The only thing that comforts her is giving her an hour-by-hour breakdown of what will happen. She sounds like a dream to work for.

At least Jon is helping Steve out, climbing up on the roof with him and his team. This looks kind of fun. It's so steep they have to use rock climbing equipment. Oh, no, the solar panel delivery truck is delayed! This SUCKS! Whatever will they do? There is a long, boring conversation about what to do, which I will spare you. Bottom line is the Gosselins complain some more about how disrupted their schedule is, and Kate calls going green "whatever." Obama just crossed her off his short list for Environmental Czar.

Kate can't handle watching all this, so she claims she's inside baking, and even goes so far as to assert she went grocery shopping. Although we never actually see this. Who is watching the kids when Jon is on the roof and Kate is "baking" and "shopping"--read, laying in bed with her laptop and going to the spa? Not-a-nanny? Apparently these almost-five-year-olds can't be simply told not to go on the lifts, they have to put out orange cones and block them with picnic tables. Yet another instance of Jon and Kate deflecting a problem instead of addressing it head on. If the kids visit Niagara Falls someday, there will be no cones or picnic tables to block them from the edge.

Steve gives the kids a cute explanation of photons and electrons, having them bump into each other in demonstration. He shares in their snack, and Hannah says in an eerie imitation of Kate, "You don't have a snack. You didn't take a nap!" Yikes, scary! So Kate doesn't feed the children unless they take a nap? Good grief. Kate calls the free workers "ridiculous," then feeds them brownies from craft services. Er, that she baked. "I'm kidding," she monotones.

Coming up, Kate bitches some more about this awesome project. Commercials. Is there some catch to, "lose your job, you don't have to make car payments" thing? It sounds too good to be true. I find this commercial SO ironic as we watch the Gosselins install what must be quite honestly close to what, a 30, 40 thousand dollar project? I'm totally guessing. We're back! The solar panels are here, oh thank God. Kate would rather have a root canal than have projects done. Steve says, "You and I grew up very differently." Oh, burn! Nice subtle insult, Steve. The kids are already getting attached to solar panel workers who will leave them in two days, great.

Kate admits she doesn't give a damn about actually being green. At least she is honest about it. FOR freaking ONCE. Bottom line she cares about saving the money. Hey, the only reason I'm looking at hybrids is for the gas mileage. Quite honestly, I am not as into the environment as soooo many people seem to be these days, for a variety of my own boring reasons. So I had to laugh when Kate deadpans, "The earth is only gonna last so long ANYWAY." I'm gonna remember that one. Kate earns a tiny bit of respect for being honest about going green. Also in her second truly funny comment in 18 minutes, Kate calls the solar panels "roof jewelry." That's free roof jewelry, Kate. Steve tries to tell an embittered Kate how to conserve more energy like buying energy efficient appliances. Give it up, Steve.

They claim this all happened over Valentine's Day. Jon is nowhere to be found on the actual day. Hmm, and the blog had several reports Jon was at a bar that night, not spending time with his wife or kids. Poor Aaden stumbles all over his "coming up next" line.

The kids are playing in all the empty solar panel boxes. Oh, that is so refreshing. Kids don't need a trip to San Diego or Utah or whatever theme park. They need a box. A box, and love. That's it. The men are strapping Kate in. No, not into a straightjacket. You wish. Just into the rock climbing equipment. They take Kate up on the lift, and she's super scared. I am not going to make fun of her, since I'm afraid of heights too. The panels are FUGLY I have to say. Quite wealthy friends of mine have solar panels, but they're tucked away on the back of their house along the fence that no one will ever see, except from aerial shots of their nice home that they worked very hard for without pimping out their kids. Steve explains all the tax credits they get for this stuff. Cool. Kate's attempt to act interested is pathetic. After all, she doesn't do her own taxes anymore. I bet she might even think she doesn't have to pay them either. You know, karma in the form of the taxman could be very sweet. Then she tells Steven most of what he says will be edited out. Oh, wow. Bitch! She deserves all the snide comments Steve will make about her the rest of this episode.

Commercials, and we're back. Panels are done, and now it's time to install …. something, I'm not sure. Is this episode an hour? Ugh. They install the something-or-other that I'm sure is very environmentally friendly. Hehe, Shoka won't fetch for Kate. Shoka is participating in what I'll call Civil Disobedience, or non-violent resistance to Kon. Much like Gandhi did in his time. Against the British Empire. If he keeps going like he has, Shoka could be the first martyr in this movement.

Poor Steve is still hoping Kate will develop an interest in going green and in all the free stuff he's doing for her. Steve, don't hold your breath. The weather turns, and it begins to snow. No one has commented about the weather in Pennsylvania. It's like the elephant in the room. I lived there for four years, the winters are LONG. Maybe I'm wrong, but do solar panels really make sense in a cold and cloudy environment like PA?

Your mileage might vary.

Oatmeal raisin cookies are healthy? I mean they're better than chocolate chip I guess, but who is Kate kidding? Steve has totally had it by now with this shit. He's letting it all loose, totally making fun of Kate, saying that when she bakes her motherly side comes out. Ha! Weird or not, I'm really starting to love Steve.

Day three, and we're going to build a picnic table with reclaimed wood. That's cool. Mady and Cara get to help Jon and they have a ball. I know Kate is just trying to say she loved the first table, but saying she wanted two made just sounds ungrateful. Sometimes I feel just a tiny bit sorry for her, because I'm not convinced she's fully aware of how unappreciative and stuck up she always sounds. I made a picnic table once with my dad, helping him paint it red and staining my good church clothes. My mom was furious, but it was one of my favorite memories with him. Every once in awhile they have these little moments with their kids that are truly great that, like I have, their kids will remember forever. So much more of their lives are so sad and neglected. Steve brings up the snack issue again, and the kids again tell him he has to take a nap. He reclines on the new picnic table. Ha!

Oh, Colin said his line perfectly. I hope he gets a snack. Next, Steve who really is a stranger, teaches the children "righty tighty, lefty loosey." I STILL remember that from when Grandpa taught me that when I was eight and helping him out in his workshop. I still use that.

We're back, and the kids help Steve install solar lights for the driveway. Aw, Steve says he has a son, too. He seems like a cool dad. Righty tighty. Aw. He calls one of the kids sweetheart. Does Kate ever do that? Kate thanks the workers, and Kon says they're happy with how it turned out. Jon says Jude thinks the panels are sexy. Okay, who is Jude? Not the nanny? As his final insult, Steve gives some parenting tips these parents clearly often don't do, like getting the kids involved in projects. And I don't think he's talking about filming projects.

It's no secret this family will be back for another long torturous season on May 25th. They could have just used all this footage as a regular episode and not interrupted my break from this show. Kate says they're green now, or greenish. Since dinner will arrive on paper plates and in Styrofoam cups, I'm going to go with greenish.

OOoohh....first comment!? As usual this epi was for publicity and was completely pointless. This show is supposed to be about the kids and the family and now its about how many people will kiss their behind to get a spot on their show....kill me

I would love to leave a comment I hate this show but I everytime I do it takes HOURS to see it posted....well after the fact.

Let's so ! I hate this show....In PA could the solar panels really be that helpful?? No? but not using paper plates sure is....Or at least putting them in your recycle bin shoudl would be good! I can't even get into the whole environment thing b/c many people are "naive" Do my husband and I use LED sure do...but we paid maybe $10 for maybe 20 bulbs...they are the "squirrely" kind not as nice as K&J have but you can do something..

that recap was hilarious!
pure genius! what great wit!

i just feel sorry for the family - i really, really do.
I never realized before how much the mother is away from home - for weeks and weeks on end.
That is a fact.
And just so, so sad.
I think the biggest exploiter in all of this is TLC - even exploiting the human tendency of the parents to be greedy.
It's one of the "seven deadly sins" and it does exist - it is a very big human temptation.
Sadly, they have not recognized this - but I have no doubt TLC has.

While I enjoy their other shows, I've decided to no longer watch the ones I really like, such as the roloff family (little people/ big world) and the duggars.... and a few others.
I'm just boycotting TLC altogether.

I know I'm just one person, but I will take a stand. I do believe those children are being exploited and now - they no longer have a mommy.
It's just such a tragedy.

But thanks for the post - I completely agree - I did watch some of it - and that Steve sure had Kate's number!

Jude was the guy from Solardelphia who provided the panels.
UGH, I actually remembered the name of someone who provided more free stuff the Kon! YUCK!
My biggest gripe - the kids riding bikes without helmets! My 15 month old wear one to ride his no-pedal bike! Just to get him in the habit of it of course :)
And how excited the kids were that people were there and how friendly they were to them? Yes, because they are adults who paid attention to them!
I still cant believe I watched this!

In watching the rerun of the first documentary yesterday, and watching the green show on Sunday, it truly is amazing the transformation of Kate...She really has gone green, in the money dept. that is.
TLC has a good thing going, they show the reruns, let us see Jon saying things like "he hasn't been on a vacation in 8 years" and then the next episodes we see them going on the Utah trip, Hawaii trip, San Diego, the list goes on and on.
And must we not forget the mansion move, the appliances deliveries, the Harlem Globetrotters entertainment package, the go green panels....
This show is talked about all over the country, and the sad thing is that most everything I have read is negative. Why can't the KON's see what everybody else see. They are just too busy counting the $$$ that is going into the bank.
TLC...you have done enough for this family, time to move on. Let Kate get back to raising her family, and let JON go back to working a real job!

There were people on here that said there is Sun in Pennsylvania in the winters. Well I never see much of it and I have lived here for decades. I personally sew few solar panels in this neck of the woods, same County as KON. Waste of money to me. Not that they paid for anything. There are folks out there who are broke and hurting right now and these bufoons are sucking up every cent they can along with the freebies. The unemployment rate in KON's area is higher than the national average--- about 17% in Reading, PA. I just lost my job. Guess I am jealous huh?

So Kate doesn't feed the kids a snack if they don't nap?? Aren't they almost 5? Do they really need a daily nap at that age? Plus, didn't I read they are not allowed to get up from bed until the sun shines through a particular window. Poor kids.

Great recap.

ugh... this episode was possibly both the best and worst yet..

the best, because I loved seeing Jon interact with his kids and have a fun project... I loved being able to see what all Steve Thomas had to say and share with everyone and bring to a new audience...

but mostly, the worst... Kate was just in top form of her horrible personality traits that make some of us want to thrash her.

I have no problem understanding the kids, for the record (they talk better than my 5yr old who is about their same exact age)... but I hate it that they so clearly need more attention and love, as they are seeking it from everyone.

Steve was innocently joking with Joel (because he said his bike was faster) when he said it was because the bike was orange... and he cheerfully told the girls that their bikes were prettier because they were purple.... but poor Joel clearly hasn't been around much joking, because his Mom and Dad are away too much.

I loved seeing the kids playing outside in all this space that they have been pimped out for... but where were their helmets?

And during the dangerous parts of construction, why were they not shooed into the back yard (along with the puppies) where there should be a huge playground (again... they have been pimped out a lot... they should be reaping the perks) for them to play on?

I loved how Steve made the whole concept of solar power relatable to the kids... but I'm just sick of seeing almost more obviously how the kids are forced to dress alike...

I've no problem with people who dress their multiples in coordinating clothes (even the same outfit in different colors)... but identical outfits... and this long... come ON.

I got it with the Superquads... Mom was doing it for laundry efficiency and because her girls all wanted to wear the same thing, anyway... but even she had some variety in there... with the girls sometimes wearing the same shirt, but in different colors.

I don't get it with the Gosselins... their kids are not clones of each other like identical twins/multiples are... surely they want to be their own people?

My two boys loved dressing alike when they were little, but not all the time and it was something that totally passed by the time the younger one was this age.

I get doing it for family photos/photo shoots... but every day just is sick to me.

And, while I believe Kate that she was baking, why not pull 2-3 kids off each day that she's doing this and have them help her?

And if you really want to show appreciation by making the guys food... I'd do more than 1-2 cookies apiece... come ON.... you should be used to cooking for tons of people by now... I was expecting to see gallons of hot soup... tons of grilled cheese sandwiches... and tons and tons of coffee, tea, and hot cocoa for the men and the kids.

THEN the cookies.

Really... she should have been making them a big lunch.

And if they want to go green... what about getting toilets that help conserve water? God knows the kids use the toilet enough to warrent them.

I know doing dishes isn't fun... but seriously... ditch the paper plates and foam cups and just do full loads of dishes regularly... have the "not nanny" do it for you and YOU play with the kids!

I thought I was having problems with my hearing because I couldn't understand the kids. I have a neighbor with 3 year old triplets and they are already in a speech class because they have some kind of "triplet language" and they need to get a handle on it. They understand each other, but others have a problem doing so.

I laughed at the beginning with Joel on the bike. Steve had to repeat himself three times and Joel keep up with his "what what" and then pedaled away............priceless. Also, I thought he was done with training wheels?

I have to admit, I turned it off before the snack comment. I was far to bored.

SueM said...

I didn't watch and probably won't ever...The recap was great.

Here's my question: Did Joel really use a bike with training wheels? Wasn't Joel the first to learn to ride his bike without them? And, wasn't that at the old house? Why is he being held back?

In PA could the solar panels really be that helpful?? No? but not using paper plates sure is....Or at least putting them in your recycle bin shoudl would be good! The solar panels are supposedly saving them $500 a year, but if they'd had to pay out of pocket for them, it would take a long, time to recoup the cost. Other places, it might be a better deal.

As far as the plates, recycling them depends on your location. My city won't take paper for recycling if it has food or leftovers on it. Of course, grapes and crackers don't leave a lot of "food residue" anyway. If Kate wanted to, she could use the dishwasher - she wouldn't even have to pre-rinse most of the time.

Using paper plates and styrofoam cups during the "Going Green" episode is just over the top on the irony/hypocrisy meter.

Kate said: oh well, the earth isn't going last long anyway or some such. OMG! Then there's no reason to save for the kids college! You can quit!

What a hoot. Good laughs all around with this recap and loved the description on Steve's audience. His comments to Kate and to Jon about Kate were right on and I am surprised they did make it past the edit. The kids are adorable, Kate is classless trailer park trash and Jon is a dope, doing his best to take care of stuff and the kids. And so we beat on............

Loved the Recap! It was hilarious.

Didn't watch it.....looked all too boring to me...but this definitely let me know what happened.

I lived in Pennsylvania for the first 19 years of my life...and I lived fairly close to Jon & Kate- Solar panels are probably not the best investment for Pennsylvania residents. The winters are long.

But I love all of the comments that Steve made. I bet he's seeing the light.

Daner said...

Horrible episode! One thing I noticed about Kate is that she could never look Steve in the yes, it was always some strange sideways look.

Heather said...

I know Kate is just trying to say she loved the first table, but saying she wanted two made just sounds ungrateful.AND she interrupted Jon when she said it! He started to say something about "All the barns in Pennsylvania..." but she cut him off before he could finish the though. Which is exactly the kind of behaviour that she has berated him on-camera for.

I would have liked to know more about the reclaimed wood. As a matter of fact, I think this episode would have been so much more interesting if we had seen what a family of ten does to reduce waste and be more ecological*. I think this sort of thing would have been much more informative to the viewers than watching people install $40K worth of solar panels. The LED lights were interesting and worth talking about as a way an average family could make a change, but as with the reclaimed wood, they got barely a mention in favour of the "roof jewelry" that few people can afford.

And we got to see the rather ironic use of paper plates and napkins, styrofoam cups, plastic water bottles and yogurt cups. Way to "Go Green", Gosselins.

I didn't see this episode, and skimmed the recap, its just making me gag.

WHY does Kate refer to every employee of anyplace she ever goes as "workers"???? it drives me batty!! These are people kate, just like you, they have families, opinions, hearts (well, no comment there). Has anyone else noticed this? "the workers were really helpful" Her grammar is atrocious too, "over top of me", and "has been wanting" Nothing against PA, but did she go to public school? Honestly, she really, really irks me to the core.

Phew, i feel better now. Guess I should return to my work, as I'm a regular old worker. ;)

Or green as in I'm going to be sick if I have to listen to Kate for five more minutes.

********************

My favorite line. Dew, awesome job with this recap.

It is rather sickening. I live in the desert, in Arizona, and the spouse and I would give anything to convert our house to solar. In this state, we could easily meet our power needs just by what we generate in the summer months alone. But you know what? Solar conversions like that are EXPENSIVE. Too much for our family budget, that's for sure.

So yes, KON, you have finally found something you now have of which I am pretty jealous. Too bad your egocentric worldview prevents you from appreciates that gift you have been given. And when I say KON, I am looking right at YOU, Kate.

Deb said...

Decent recap but I disagree with a few points, I don't applaud Kate for her so-called "honesty" for not caring about the environment. I don't congratulate ignorance. The Earth is our precious and ONLY resource, and ignorant comments like Kate's is only going to perpetuate more apathy for our world.

I was livid this idiot not only didn't know what solar panels are for, but said she "didnt care"! Their carbon footprint is going to be the size of King Kong's when they get through with this Earth.

I didn't find Steve "weird" in the least, but a normal talk-show person who was trying to pull a personality out of these dole-drums. The kids can't recognize humor, Kate can't be personable and Jon spends the whole time latching on to any male figure that comes along.

The whole family is pathetic.

Casey and Smudge said...

Kate is such an adolescent! She's at the stage where it's not cool to like anything or show a passion for anything - only nerds do that, duh! The rebellious hairstyle, the fashion faux pas (plural), shirking responsibility, issues with body image, awkward body language, under-developed social skills, lack of foresight, need for control, me-centred universe are very much what I see when I teach grades 5, 6, 7, and even 8, not to insult the children, it's a normal part of growing up that most of us leave behind. She's a study in contradictions for sure!

Solar panels on any house where you experience all four seasons will never recover your investment! They couldn't hide the enormity of that house this time around either. The "wing" where they installed the thermo-water thingy is probably the size of a normal two-story house with basement (60' up??). Not to mention the loft/garage with three bays.

Installing low flow toilets are a good idea, as one poster mentioned, but then you'd get to see how many bathrooms that mansion actually has! Along with Kate master ensuite, of course. Plus all that super-thick Charmin the kids use (honestly, it's like paper towel) they'd have the place flooded in no time.

In reality, no normal family would be able to "go green" in such a fashion. Normal people drive fuel efficient cars (versus delivery vans, Hummers, and sports cars...), install high efficiency furnaces when the old one breaks, replaces as needed with energy star appliances and electronics, uses reusable shopping bags, recycles, plants trees and gardens without needing assistance from the Weed Man, swaps out traditional light bulbs for CFLs, avoids excess packaging and consumables that wind up in landfills (i.e. paper plates), adds home insulation, paints with environmentally safe paints, uses sunscreen, spends a little more for safer household cleaners or goes natural, uses a clothesline instead of running two dryers 24/7. Did they do any of that?

Happy Earth Day!

PA said...

I think solar panels in PA are fine considering where they live. I live in Harrisburg and though the winters can be cold, the sun is out frequently during the winter. I used to live in Erie and during the winters there you never see the sun.

I think its time for this family to ride off into the sunset. week after week of Kate bashing everyone including her poor husband is getting tedious. Her 15 minutes of fame have lasted far too long.

Let's look at her legacy- The Octomom- a mentally imbalanced person who thought having a bunch of kids would bring fame and fortune. I wonder where she got that idea?

laura weiss said...

Casey and Smudge: Right on!

There are so many ways that every single one of us can do good for our Mother Earth without having to break the bank or do anything drastic like adorn our roofs with "jewelry" (but I still want to do that, darn it!).

"Living With Ed," a charming program starring Ed Begley, Jr., and his lovely wife (whose name escapes me at the moment, sorry) gives tons of tips to do little things throughout the day that add up and DO help reduce our shared environmental impact. Ed is pedantic about everything, and is very hilarious, and can tend to be a little preachy, but I have never once walked away from that show without some good ideas as to how to help our planet.

He'd have a field day with KON.

Here's a great way to help the planet: grow a garden! Indoors or outdoors, growing plants helps our air get cleaner. They also beautify our landscape, and can be a great project for kids and adults alike. Even if you don't have the space or ability to grow an outdoor garden, you can have a lovely potted garden. I do, every summer, and we grow flowers and leafy plants and herbs and vegetables.

Sadly, something tells me La Gosselin could not be bothered with the minimal amount of effort it takes to grow houseplants or a garden, and she certainly would not take it upon herself to have anything like that as a project with her kids. She's just TOO BUSY, don't you know. (Funny, Michelle Obama and her girls have TWO organic vegetable gardens on the WH grounds that they personally oversee as a family project.)

Sherp said...

Michell "Overseeing" the WH garden ain't the same as "gardening". Many of us have no green thumb and could not grow a weed.
Joel may or maynot have been on "his" bike but just happened to choose to ride a bike with "training wheels". So What??
I will be sad to see the Bib and Highchair controversity come to an end cause it sure gives me lots of laughs.
The more mean Kate is away from these kids the better. But for all the "get a job" complaints, now that she has one and is actually out of the home, there are complaints about her not being a full time Mom. Thankfully, Jon is still "on the job" and not traveling two hours a day for his thirty thousand pay.

The Pennsylvania Dutch dialect has some interesting grammar and sentence structure. I don't really know Kate's background but the examples you gave sound similar to a Pennsylvania Dutch dialect.

As to why Joel is back to riding his bike w/training wheels. I'm betting that ONE time at the old house was the first and last time that anyone ever helped him. It takes a few times of dad (or mom) running behind for a kid to feel comfortable enough to ride by themselves...Again, another example of how seldom, if ever those kids have either parents' undivided attention!

cossysmom said...

I agree with Heather that it would have been more interesting to see what a "real" family of 10 can do to "go green." What was given to the Gosselins is way out of reach for the average family. And I think at least one other poster somewhere mentioned that in central PA a windmill would have been more practical than solar pannels. Watching people install solar panels was BORING...and I didn't learn a thing from this show.

Aside from that, I found this episode very disturbing and sad. Kate was so nasty. It's hard to believe this was the best that they could come up with.

I may have missed it, but I haven't seen anything anywhere about Dr. Phil weighing in on the whole J&K plus 8 thing. I know he recently had her on to comment on the OCtomom thing, but I would love to hear what he thinks about their toxic relationship. They need someone to sit down and "talk real" to them. I'm not a fan of Dr. Phil, but I think it would make great entertainment. That or the Super Nanny to visit. Not because I would like to see the children dealt with by Jo, but I would love to see her address the parenting/relationship issues.

I install solar panels in NJ and PA for a living, and yes, you can recoup your investment, in probably less than 10 years. There are several grant and rebate programs, renewable energy credit buybacks, and the fact that the system is tied into the utility grid, so your electricty bills are lower each month once your solar system is installed.

A solar system works perfectly fine in NJ and PA, despite "four seasons." It doesn't matter how cold it is, just if the sun is present. And, anyone who's ever laid on the beach on a hazy day and woken up with a burn can attest to sun being present even though it's not shining.

So, the systems cost a bunch, but grants and rebates, SREC buybacks, and a huge federal tax credit thanks to the stimulas package will shave off a lot of that cost. Add in the fact that you are saving on your electricity bill and you'll see that solar systems are not only environmentally effecient, but cost effective, as well.

Most average people can't afford to do any of the things on this show. One LED light like the one they showed costs a minimum of $15.... Who can afford $15 for a light bulb? And solar panels? Forget it. They are very expensive. You may qualify for some type of tax credit, but still they are probably $5K to install. And reclaimed wood is nice, but it most likely costs more than new lumber. It is nice to have a green lifestyle, but in reality, we are all just trying to make it from day to day. We can't afford all this green junk and K&J, who could afford it, get it for free. And bitch about it along the way. It blows my mind.

If solar panels are so cost efficient, why isn't everyone installing them? I've only known one family in my life who has ever done it, and they are very welathy. Either they really aren't as cost efficient as claimed, or Americans are stupid.

Even if you could recoup your investment in 10 years, most Americans can't foot the cost upfront, and most aren't stupid enough to gamble on being able to make it 10 years before your system starts paying for itself. Few people are sure where they will be financially in ten years.

You might end up saving just as much money if you eat from your garden, walk instead of drive, reuse clothes, buy things on Craig's list. One small thing I do is just use odd pieces of paper for shopping lists and other notes, like the back of a junk mail flyer. I haven't bought paper in years. Sure paper is inexpensive but say you spend 20 bucks on paper a year, in five years I've saved 100 bucks. All these little things you can do to be more environmentally friendly could potentially add up to the 100s and thousands in much less time than it takes to recoup a solar panel investment.

I think it's great if you can get solar panels, but I'm not convinced the middle class can afford such a thing just yet.

Kate does have the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect, hence the grammar you are referring to. I am from the same 'area' she is, so the grammar is what I hear all of the time. I also say things like "it's all", "sweeping the carpet", and "reading up". The first time I said it's all to my husband he looked at me like I had two heads! LOL! I am sure everyone has their own special dialect that everyone can find different. We are just very PA Dutch in our area. I also say are for our like Kate does, that's just the way it's said here. There is no right or wrong way to speak with dialects, just different. First time I heard someone call soda, 'pop' I said what is pop?! Different strokes for different folks I guess. :)

The Gosselins Go Green episode just made me fume. This family has received so many many freebies and they are the most thankless and arrogant in return. Kate's attitude with Steve was deplorable. What a fine example of a "mother" to these kids!

Why were the kids running around the equipment and construction site when they could have been playing a safe distance away on the Konpound? Oh, I forgot about the grass stains........rather have a child crushed under a piece of equipment.

I live in London Ontario, and our television stations have two hours of this fiasco showing tonight!! How lucky am I. I will go to my laundry room with my blankie and basin in case I throw up.

Not so very much, I don't think. I'm closer to QFI, my grandmother IS Amish, rest of the family decided it was more fun NOT to be. NONE of the family speaks any where as oddly as MissKatie. Even when they mix in German.

It comes right down to lazy speech and poor vocabulary skills. I'm sure it is quite difficult to control what's coming out of your mouth, while trying to juggle all the lies in your head.

These people are ridiculous!! I am all about being "green" I have been taking my own bags to the store for over 5 years now. Every little thing people can do is great...with that said!!!

If you really want to be "green" and save this Earth (which Kate obviously doensn't want to as she made that clear) Don't but a MANSION! I get so sick of celebrities telling us to save the Earth and horrible all of us are but then they live in HUGE homes, have numerous cars, houses and in some cases planes. Just like any random celebrity does NOT need 20,000 sq feet - 15 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms etc...Either do Kate and Jon. It makes no sense to me and NO I am not jealous. I can afford a large home I choose not to! The cost to heat and cool a house that size is crazy!!! But it's just not that it's the amount of wood used to build it, the carpet, counter tops etc. Would of been nice to see the Greedy 10 put in sustainable hard wood floors like bamboo etc.

Sorry I just don't understand how people can be so selfish. I am BY NO MEANS a "tree hugger" lol but I try to little things to make a difference. It's the fact that I at least care as I think everyone except for Kate does.

If anyone has solar garden lights (even those of you who live in PA) they work in the dead of winter.

Yes solar technology is very expensive. I agree the show could of shown things like gardening, composting, recycle etc....There are other shows that highlight those things in a much better light.

We can all agree that the show was a joke, and that KON is far from green and earth friendly.

They are new money and by the way the trainwreck is progressing they will be no money soon enough.

I must politely disagree. They really are cost effective. My inlaws installed them and they have not had a power bill since. (we live in California). I agree the upfront cost is crazy! Yes you get a deduction on your taxes but it's not like you can tell the Solar company that you will pay later or "bill my taxes" lol

Using the sun to heat your house is very logical but I do agree in this day and age when people move alot (whether for job, better school district, bigger house)putting an investment in your house that may take 5 years to "make your money back" seems like a hard investment to make. At the same time people re-do kitchens, bathrooms etc, Do you actually get "paid" back for that?

We have the florescent "swirly" kind of bulbs in every outlet in our modest sized townhome and we paid $1 a piece for them at the dollar store (Dollar Tree) Basement, garage, closets, lamps, I truely mean everywhere. We save about 50% on our electric bills, along with not wasting when we are not using. The bulbs they showed on the Green episode someone said were 7 watts and over $100 a bulb! Our bulbs are 13 watts and plenty bright enough.Their bulbs use 1/2 the power and cost 100 times as much! Why couldnt they just suggest the cheaper ones like we have and not the LEDs since the target viewers are not movie stars or mansion dwellers?

There are plenty more ways to save money AND help out the environment, such as having your electric co install a "nature first" device on your central air unit like we have. They give you $10 off per month on your bill if you agree to let them shut off your air compressor during peak demand hours in the summer. We have had that on 3 homes so far and they have NEVER even shut us off 1 minute!

I vote more on Ed Bagly styles and the water saver toilets (and showers and sinks) We save 100s of $$$ every year by doing easy, cheap conservation techniques. If its yellow let it mellow, when its brown.....well you get the picture!!!

I was thinking about this the other day when I read a post from another thread, someone said they saw her in a supermarket when Kate very rudely cut her off in the cereal aisle, turned around and coldly looked her up and down and walked away. Wow. Just what IS Kate's problem? Why the hostility?

Really now, is this the action of a Christian mother? I really think there is something seriously wrong with Kate (yes, I know, we all know this) but SERIOUSLY. The anger, the pure hostility just seem way out of proportion.

I feel horrible for the kids. They are the true victims of this woman's inability to seek help when she so desperately needs it. Jon is no help - nutless wonder he is!

I'm all about conservation and doing what you can to help the earth. But, I don't think those CFL lights are all they are cracked up to be. They have mercury in them--how many people know that? How many people actually take them to the proper places to dispose of them instead of just throwing them away? And who knows all the 10 or 12 steps you are supposed to take if you break one?? I think in 10 years, people are going to be complaining about all the mercury in landfills.

Instead, I think people need to focus on light pollution--ever hear of it? It's about directing light where it should go so you can use dimmer bulbs. 95% of the light used to light up a flag pole is misdirected and therefore, wasted. Ever been bothered by a neighbor's security light? Light pollution. Have you seen those cool pictures of the earth from space at night? All those lights? Light pollution. Millions, if not billions, of dollars every year wasted because the light isn't going where it should. Keep the old fashioned light bulbs, but then power plants generate less waste because they are generating less power. Use downward facing, full cut-off light fixtures. Too bad people aren't starting a movement about THAT. You can't see the stars at night in cities because of light pollution.

Did they do any of that?Wonderful comment. As you say, most families aren't able to afford big ticket greening, like solar panels for the entire house, etc. We go green in little ways, doing what we can.

Each time one of my regular bulbs burns out, I have been replacing it with a swirly fluorescent one. They are so much better these days than in years gone by. I do my dishes by hand in the sink. I have a water efficient washer, low flow shower heads, and water saving toilets.

We recycle cans, bottles, paper, cereal boxes, cardboard, etc.

I like the idea of getting a clothes line - I could probably string one up easily in my carport during the spring and summer months, and dry at least one or two loads per week.

I would have appreciated seeing a more realistic show demonstrating all the little things the average person can do around their home to be green. But that wouldn't suit Kate at all -- where's the freebies in that?

"But for all the "get a job" complaints, now that she has one and is actually out of the home, there are complaints about her not being a full time Mom."

The only reason Kate has a "job" is because she sold her children's dignity and privacy for a TV show. TLC claims that doing the show allows Kate to be a stay at home mom, but her schedule clearly shows that she's not spending much time at home with the kids. And as shown in the Going Green special, even when she is at home, she used the time while "the workers" were doing the installation to avoid time with the kids by baking. She even seemed very pleased with herself about her motives to use that time for baking, without the kids under foot.

The "get a job" comments are about getting a real job that supports the family without putting the kids to work for a TV show, rather than making the show your life, and your life the show (per Kate).

Dew said...

"Instead, I think people need to focus on light pollution--ever hear of it?"

Yes, including the studio lights in these small children's faces. Think about the enviornmental impact of the show itself. Microphones, camera equipment, sound equipment, lighting. Gas and pollution for all the crew to and from work. Pollution from craft services. All the flights Kate takes around the country and all the pollution that makes. All the bedsheets that are changed over and over at all the hotels she stays at. Nannies, cooks, all other "workers" who are always over and all the gas they burn to get there. The show alone probably just took off five year's of the Earth's life that Kate doesn't care about, since the Earth will only last so long anyway!

I completely agree with you about how stuck up and rude and obnoxious Kate was this entire episode, I don't think anyone can deny that.

I do want to comment, however, on what you said about the cliffhanger being a jip. I truly do think Jon had reservations about going through with season 5 and there is no doubt in my mind that Kate talked him (aka forced him) into it. However, if this project was indeed filmed around Valentines Day, then the last two episodes of the season took place after that. I know for a fact that they were on Oprah via satellite on March 9th (i remember b/c it was my birthday), so really the cliffhanger wasn't so much of a jip. Just wanted to clarify the timing of everything. :)

I haven't seen the show for about a season because it seemed to be getting repetative..the kids and parents were always off on grand trips somewhere.

So when I tuned in tonight first of all it was the first time I saw the new house and I couldn't believe Kate.

That house is outrageous and smacks of "look what we got for self promotion".

From the first I always thought Kate was "difficult" to say the least. I am in the medical profession and have met many nurses like her..a little education in medicine..a God like complex and holy-er than thou is the result!

But tonight! WOW! She was at an all time high for anger and sarcasm. She could not have made it more plain that she did not want these people in HER house (not ours). Usually this means the person is angry about something else..something deeper. It then comes out inappropriately directed at others..did I read that the marriage is questionable?

Wonder if Jon still brings her coffee in the mornings..doubt it.

Terra, I'm not sure I agree. Overpopulation is a problem and having this many kids is a drain on society and the environment. Christopher Reeve actually used to speak about overpopulation and how he believed it was better to keep the kids at a minimum, but since that's not PC it wasn't picked up much by the media. He specifically said that he believes problem with the environment are directly related to overpopulation. I realize he's talking about more on a global level, but between immigration and fertility treatments the U.S. is participating in this.

I don't begrudge the Duggers their brood because they take responsibility for them. They are no drain on society. The Gosselins however just let their eight little energy-sappers wreck havoc on their environment, society, and our tax dollars. Much like many, though not all, big families. It is, as they say, too much of a good thing.

I finally saw the episode tonight. A harmless fluff piece to tie into Earth Day. What's next, Jon wearing a sombrero getting shitfaced in his crib for Cinco de Mayo? Steve is the right type of personality for a television job. Very quick-witted and engaging. Personable without being rude. Kate should have taken notes. Two things stood out for me. The first was that someone is sending them an endless supply of crocs. I guess no one is supplying them with sneakers or any other type of shoe that would be appropriate for winter in Pa. I was born and raised there and you don't wear sling back, open toe shoes in February. I guess it is the mom in me to want my (small) kids' feet covered and warm in the winter months. But Kate probably can't be bothered taking all of them out and spending HER money on their shoes. Better to spend it on HER shoes. Also, no boys in my area wear crocs, mainly girls do. They obviously do not get to socialize with other boys or they would realize how out of place they look. By the way, our local elem. school does not allow crocs and has banned them for safety reasons. I also wondered why there was no one who could keep the kids in the house while Jon was on the roof. I thought it was a disgrace that Kate couldn't be counted on to keep her kids safe and they seemed to be unsupervised and under foot in the work area.

I live near Kate. PA is a nice place to raise a family. Of course, like any other states, we have our bad aspects too. Unfortunately our most embarrasing is a woman in Wernersville lol.

All in all though, don't be afraid of PA. We aren't all like her. In fact, where I'm from, neighbors are like family. We're also pretty well educated (contrary to what QFI and Prince Ka Ching reflect). Even those who didn't go to college but opted to go straight into the work force are no fools and recognize a phony like her when we see one.

The speaking thing here is kind of funny. I've always heard it as PA Dutch, but I think each area has it's own terms or what not. Kate's problem is she's just so wonky about it. Her lack of education and lack of ability to admit she can stand to learn a thing or two rather than be a know it all is what dumbs her down.

If you're ever in PA and need a hot meal or a place to stay or a ride somewhere, call me up. I'll be more than happy to help you out : )

The biggest problem here seems to be Kate's social skills. It doesn't matter if she thinks she is just joking, being sarcastic, or flirting. She has to think about what she's saying and take social cues from those around her.

I too have a dry sense of humor at times and I'm quick to think of a joke at someone else's expense. But social cues stop me from saying it outloud most of the time. Depending on the audience, if it's a good friend or coworker I know can take a joke, sometimes it's okay. Once in awhile stuff like this crosses the line and you end up needing to apologize.

The problem with Kate is she doesn't seem to understand some of the things she says are very hurtful, even if it's funny to her. Some things may be rude, inappropriate, uncalled for, mean to others.

The problem with dry humor is you have to realize a lot of people either don't understand or don't appreciate that kind of thing. Truly not everyone gets sarcasm, why it's funny, or when to not take you literally. You really must know your audience and be able to read social cues to avoid what you see as just a dry joke or sarcasm becoming what others see as you being a real cutting bitch. Kate clearly has no understanding for the complexities of making the kind of "jokes" that she does, nor what it does to other people.

I see a lot of people who get upset with TLC and choose to boycot and not watch the network so that Jon and Kate can't cash in on the ratings. Rating are determined by a small percentage of people, about 5,000. These selected people either have devices on their TVs or actually record it in writing (the old fashioned way) and report to Nielsen the shows that they watch. Nielsen then put those numbers into formulas to come up with overall statistics. My point is that unless you are one of these 5,000 people, TLC will not know if you are watching or not watching. Therefore we make more of an impact on this show by contacting the advertisers then simply shutting off the TV.

If J&K planned out their finances well enough, they should be able to quit filming and concentrate on the kids. When ever I see the twins, they are obnoxious. They are getting older and really need guidance from mom and dad. It's sad to see how Maddy and Cara belittle the tups constantly, sounding EXACTLY like their mother.

I have six kids, all ranging from the age of 2-12. I home school and I recently had to get a part time job working in the afternoons with autistic children. I feel so guilty leaving them for just 3 hours or so while I am at work. Even though their daddy is here having fun with them. And as soon as the neighborhood kidss get home from school they are always hanging out here. Why are there never any children coming over to the house to play? Why doesn’t Maddy or Cara have friends spend the night. I think that friendships are such a blessing, and the kids really are missing out on something so important, especially in childhood. Kate obviously has no maternal instincts, because if she did she couldn't stand to be away from them for more then an afternoon. It makes me sad. I can see that Jon is more laid back and better with the kids, but he does lose his temper at times and I think it is because Kon conditioned him to be like that. She has pecked off what is left of his nards. Maybe that is why she has the chicken head hair cut.

If the "get a job " comments are b/c J&K are making a profit from their show why is that bad? The show is called JON and KATE plus 8. So without the kids their would be no show and without Jon and Kate their would be no kids. Also, the profits are coming in from her new books. The children are not with her on her book tours and they were not involved in the "writing" of the book. Just part of the story line. And with that being said...If she (Kate) is wrong then everyother autobiographer is wrong also? Is every other mothers "self help" or "my experience" novels wrong also? Jenny McCarthy has written 5 books about her and her son is that wrong? Is she now exploiting her son b/c she has told his whole life story and is making a profit off of that?

Just Asking. Just need to clarify.

If ones idea of 'fun' is EXPLOITING minor children as the means to acquire; tv ratings, cross promotion and advertising, free solar panels and other goods and services etc...then I suppose it was a 'fun time for all of the people involved.'

I don't understand how people like Steve Thomas can decide to put their names on shows like this. Anybody that has contributed to the greed of this family is responsible for the trainwreck they've become. I'm surprised nobody has had enough self respect to simply refuse to work with the Gosselins even if it did promote their own show or business.

Flirting? Is that the sheeple's new line? I don't think so. I watched the very end of the repeat of this epcial. Steve Thomas was bemused by Kate, even making fun of her - there was no flirting on his part.

Even if it were flirting, it's okay for a married woman to flirt with another man? Wow, the sheeple are just grasping at any little thing now to support the disturbed woman that is Kate Gosselins.

A previous poster provided a link to a 14' interview Jon did while in Utah. He talks about how they have a corporation, but when asked about being a stay-at-home Dad his answers were pretty revealing I thought.

He said he didn't want to nor did he like it "at first. But then Kate 'explained it to him.'" Then he understood that he needed to do it. He didn't sound bitter at all, but comments underscore the couple dynamics.

If anyone else wants to see it, just google "jon gosselin Utah interview" (it's actually at a sheeple site, which suggests there are different interpretations).

My in-laws had solar panels installed in their PA house (they live maybe 1 1/2 hours from the Kon's area) and they were okay, but when they broke they didn't get the fixed. It was a lot of money to install them and I don't know if they ever saw a full return in energy saving.

Boy, did you hit the nail on the head with this description. Kate does act like my 11 year old granddaughter in a lot. Kate definitely shows the signs of arrested development.

Not hate, I made a comment and I live here in PA too- right in KON's Berks County but the Winters are getting longer and most of the Winter is not real sunny so I disagree on that one. This winter has been miserable and it is now Spring with the weather being back and forth Winter to Spring, Spring to Winter it is 44 degrees right now at 10:30 AM and then the weekend in a unseasonable predicted high in the eighties. My heat had been on and off lately... Each year it seems I have the furnace on longer. I am thinking about moving South in my old age. PA is getting like New England. I rarely see solar panels around my area but that may be because we are not a wealthier County like Chester or Bucks.

When the fans say, "Steve was flirting with Kate." It is so telling as to what sort of environments they come from. When insults can be misconstrued as romantic nuance, you know you've crossed to the, "wrong side of the tracks"

So many times I see fans saying that Kate is merely sarcastic or that the fan has a marriage much like the Gosselin's TLC has glamorized dysfunction. These poor people cannot discern that watching two develpmentally arrested folks appear on reality tv, is not a validation or justification for abusive behavior in their own lives.

Watching a junkie shoot up with heroin on a documentary speacial does not mean it's okay....

Kate Gosselin has sever personality issues. Jon Gosselin must have been looking for a Mother figure when he married Kate because his maturity level is somwhere near a 15 year olds.

I am in the pre-planning stage of building a home PLUS my profession is construction. Since I have never installed any solar panels on any of my projects, I thought it best to have the "solar panel" discussion with many of my colleagues and trades people. All of these construction professionals agreed that solar panels donot generate enough power to pay for themselves in PA. That includes the thermal tubes. You still need the power company hook up and a hot water tank.

Of course, you can still install the solar panels/tubes as I would like too. I am a tree hugger but, for me it will be a budgetary thing in my construction.

Now we all know the GREEDLINS did not pay for them so, right off the top the savings benefit them no matter how much energy is generated from them.

I loved that she mention it was great having the kids outside so she could practice her baking. Well we really didnt see her bake just bring out snacks. So was she really baking?

Love the new quick camera tricks on the new house. Very fast jerky moments not showing all of the house..

Ah complain complain is Kate's middle name.

Bart????? what are you doing there? Are you getting paid or just like being handy dandy bart man?

Weird no one else is wearing sunglasses except you named it J.G whatz up... ( Hangover)

Ah who is on the other line of Kate's call could it be a book signing rep? A car, A Vacation Gosselin Endorsements etc.. Make sure you use a coupon kate okay.. Never pay sticker price FREE 1/2 off etc.

Ah at the end no more baking WHat?? was that just a ploy showing how domesticated she is? mmm makes me wonder

Kids usually don't wear bibs after
the age of 2-3.
I think I know why these kids still wear bibs- for some reason
they have to wear matching outfits-
Doesn't it make them more marketable?
And with 3 kids in matching outfits
one is surely going to get a stain
so 3 outfits have to be changed-
Normal parents would say- lets have them pick out their own clothes- if they get a stain- have
them run up and change their shirts-
Kons don't let their kids pick out clothes- so the bibs stay for
now...poor kids.

I understand people wanting to boycott the stores that sponsor the show. You have to understand the executives that decide that probably have never seen the show, so letting them know about it is great. I personally have been shopping at Loft for a LONG time...long before the Queen (and I can't bring myself to stop shopping there - I love it). Just so you know they also have a great program that gives discounts to teachers, just to name one.

Now to my point, In this economy that many posters have referred to as being horrible etc. Which it is. Why would you boycott certain companies or stores? You are not hurting the executive that made the decision but you are hurting the person who works in Kmart, Gymboree, Loft and the ones who work at P&G who work in shipping, manufacturing etc. If you boycott and sales drop considerable you risk these people loosing their jobs. With that I ask, IS it worth it?? Why hurt the little guy because of some person in a corporation that "approves" their sponsorship.

I don't think it's right that they do get all this stuff for free etc. Shoot I would love some of it sent my way, I have been in the unemployment line for over a year. (so no I haven't been able to shop at Loft in a LONG time, except on their clearance rack). They helps reiterate my point some more. These stores are already suffering due to the economy why would we make it worse on them?

I know they are greedy mean people but they will get their own one day. I know I would of loved some Solar Panels on my house especially since it's April and I am already having to run my AC (been in the 90's all week)!! But I guess TLC isn't going to give me any because I don't have any kids. Been trying for 3 years, yes Katie Irene 3 years and I am over 35!!!

Thanks for listening to my 2 cents.

Jons eyes did look hazel on that close up Utah interview. I commented on that weeks ago, saying the kids (all 8) look more Korean than Jon himself. Jon says he is 1/2 French. Kate has lighter eyes than the kids too. I know shes not a natural blond, but her eyes are not dark brown like the kids are.

I dont even think the twins look Korean at all. I think they look asain, just not really 1/4 Korean. Its weird how the dominant and recessive traits carry over to the offspring!

I for one thought Kate was flirting with Steve.. and what was up with that awkward hug and kiss between them at the end?? They were both behaving as Jr. High School kids with their picking at one another, and her inability to look directly at him spoke volumes IMO. I am surprised though that no mention was made of how bittersweet it was when he was saying his good-byes to the kids and all the hugs. It was sad to see these children, who are so obviously in need of affection, clinging to a stranger, and while it was charming on Steve's behalf to be so affectionate towards these kids, I couldn't help but feel sorry for them. When children are emotionally neglected they tend to cling to anyone who will pay them the least bit of attention, which unfortunately opens them up to what could potentially be an unhealthy desire to seek affection/attention from strangers or someone with ill intentions. Also, no mention was made of when mommie dearest was exiting the JLG and one of the twins came up to hug her, she made absolutely no attempt to return the gesture..UGH!!! My heart ached to see such rejection towards the twin..She makes me sick with her blantant and obvious displays of contempt for her little money makers!!

Kate you are the poster child of what a MOTHER SHOULD NOT BE!!

"Jenny McCarthy has written 5 books about her and her son is that wrong?"

No, and here's the difference. Jenny is not doing it to make money off her son or exploit him. She's doing it to bring exposure to autism and find better treatment and a cure. She's doing it because she's not embarrassed or ashamed to have an autistic child. She's moved heaven and earth to help her son. Jon Travolta shamelessly hid his son when he had a golden opportunity to bring attention and awareness to autism. I think that was a sad missed opportunity to help other families.

Kate's book doesn't offer tips on raising big families, saving money, caring for premies, or coping with autism. It does not contribute anything worthwhile. It's nothing but a straight up gross exploitation of her unremarkable story to make a buck. She doesn't donate the money back to premies or pay back PA for footing all her medical bills. It goes into a house, solar panels, golf carts, sports cars and other toys the ADULTS want.

A book about your child bringing awareness to an issue is different than selling your child's story instead of working a real job.

For another amazing book about a mother and her remarkable autistic son who is a musical genius, I highly recommend "Rex: A Mother, Her Autistic Child, and the Music that Transformed Their Lives" by Cathleen Lewis.

I didn't watch. I think I saw about five minutes of it before my brain threatened to go on strike unless I turned the channel to something less intensely irritating.

My thoughts:

My TWO YEAR OLD doesn't even wear bibs anymore. And he eats much messier things than, say, grapes and crackers for a meal. If you were to tell him to wear a bib, he'd say, "I not a baby!"

If they really wanted to show "green" changes that everyday Americans can make, why didn't they show Kate hanging up clothes to dry on a clothesline? Oh, yeah, that would involve more work than rolling her eyes and throwing cookies at the help.

WTH were the kids wandering around a worksite? Whenever we have work being done on the house--especially roof work--the kids are far away from the house, OR indoors. Oh, that's right, Kate hates her kids to be indoors. I'm surprised she doesn't make them live in the barn. Kate, if you're reading, please don't make the kids sleep in the barn.

Yes, all Kate cares about is the cost and has absolutely no interest in the environment. Typical Kate.
I also noticed that Joel is back to training wheels. What's up with that? No helmets and hardly any supervision while 8 kids and two puppies are running around an area where construction is taking place. Again - Typical Kate.
Kate inside a nice warm house supposedly baking all by herself.

Did anyone else notice when Kate asked the kids what they like most about that particular Valentines Day Mady said something that sounded to me like
"we almost lost daddy". Was I hearing things?????

Steve Thomas certainly knows who wears the pants in the Gosselin household. "Will Kate mind?", "I want Kate to make the final decision" BLAH, BLAH, BLAH

First off, I'm not a fan. If I were I wouldn't be here. Secondly, her "insults" were not misconstrued. It was very obvious that she wasn't trying to insult him. That's how many adults flirt with one another, anywhere in the world. Not just "on the wrong side of the tracks." Which, btw, makes absolutely no sense to me. Are you saying that I'm on the wrong side of the tracks for (most likely correctly) taking her behavior for flirting (I assure you I'm not, nor have I ever been "on the wrong side of the tracks")? Or Kate is on the wrong side of the tracks for doing it? Either way, doesn't make sense to me at all.

I saw the rerun of the green show, but after seeing the Gosselin’s going green (what a joke) I have joined the “I ban J&K+8 from this day forward” club. I felt sorry for the workers and especially Steve T who was treated unfairly by Kate. She definitely showed her true colors in that episode. Anyone who watched this episode and was trying to stay open minded no longer doubts her little game.
Well all the comments here covered a lot of information about what a dysfunctional person Kate is and what a coward Jon is, but what I can't wait for (of course we will never know until their book comes out) is what the 8 children will be saying about them both in the years to come. You see those of us with grown children know that most of this growing up period is not retained in memory, but thank goodness for reruns because they will always have the opportunity to see what their parents were really like. I can see it now the return of the Gosselin's in “Plus 8 without Jon and Kate”. Sweet!

Kate can't bake. She probably bought those cookies that you break apart, then put on a cookie sheet and put in the oven. That is quick and easy, and that is what Kate likes. I see that those type of cookies come in the organic form. Then Kate can tell everyone that she made organic cookies.

The cookies were just so lame. She was inside the house all day, and she presumably went out to the store for supplies...couldn't she have made a nice meal for those guys, you know, out of gratitude for all their hard work?

There were so many delicious things she could have made that would have been a wonderful gesture and some warmth on such a cold day:

Chili? (Rachael Ray has a recipe for Veggie Chili that can be made in 30 minutes and knocks your socks off, it is so good, and so good for you!)

Spaghetti and meat sauce?

Meatloaf and mashed potatoes, with bread available for open-faced sandwiches?

Chicken/Beef/Lamb Stew?

Cassoulet and hot French bread?

Gyros, her homemade hummus and the tomato onion salad?

Old Grandma Soup and grilled cheese sandwiches?

Anyone want to chime in here?

Okay, not to get too picky, but… Grammar and Regional Dialect are different things. You can use regional slang (Pop for soda or vice versa, etc.) and still, in general, use correct grammar.

Kate does seem to use some regional dialect, but beyond that, her grammar is poor.

She seems to have no understanding of prepositions (of, at, on, about, for, into, etc.) and uses them all interchangeably. Nor does she have a clue about the difference between was; is and had been. Jon is just as bad.

With their elementary grade school level of communication, these people will only ever be able to convey the simplest thoughts and ideas — and poorly at that.

One of the reasons I think Jon is so frustrated is because he does not have the verbal skills to express clearly how he feels. Kate can’t string the shortest sentence together without using five umms.

These people are just horrible role models any way you look at it.

Kelly said...

If the "get a job " comments are b/c J&K are making a profit from their show why is that bad?

Because child exploitation is a bad thing.

So without the kids their would be no show and without Jon and Kate their would be no kids.

And without the show there would be no child exploitation and Jon and Kate would support their family the way most other parents do.

Is every other mothers "self help" or "my experience" novels wrong also?

Kate hasn't written any books. Beth Carson did write a partial biography of Kate but it was in no way a "self help" book, nor did it convey Kate's experiences in a way that was helpful.

There was also a ridiculous scrapbook published under Kate's name but it takes about 10-15 minutes to read and it has no substance or meaningful content whatsoever. The fact that there might be any profits from it is more a testament to the stupidity of sheeple than to any talent on Kate's part.

Just had a thought - When Jon said "his crib" or something like that, could he have meant the garage apartment, as some of you have mentioned they put solar panels on the garage as well? That would make more sense if he was calling his little apartment "my crib" than for him to refer to the whole house as "his crib". I think it COULD be another famous slip of the tongue from Jon.

Is this the thread about his hazel eyes in the Utah interview? I noticed them also and I remember being surprised and I wonder if they could be contacts? Just a thought.

During the comment section of this show, Kate said she didn't mind if the guys "greening" their house made fun of her. In fact, she encouraged it. I think this comment from her is an insight into how she handles the taunts and barbs thrown in her direction. I don't think they really bother her and she sees the benefit they bring: more attention to the show. I don't think she suffers because of the attacks or the snarky comments. All the attention (even negative) gives the Gosselins more time in the media, bigger headlines, more ratings... Kate sees this. Her family now has a wonderful house, their kids' college paid for, and tons of $$ in the bank. Comments made about Kate only fuel her fame and success.

Secondly, regarding the "flirting" or "insulting" debate, I agree that pre-teens insult as a way of flirting, but that's face to face. Kate spewed just as much venom about Steve Thomas on the interview couch as she did in person. I think it's crazy how people criticize everything Kate does. For instance, the quote above is just ridiculous! “couldn’t she have made a nice meal for those guys…” Uh, HELLO! How many people offer a MEAL to workers? We have had numerous workers at our house doing various projects and I always bake cookies and make coffee for them. I don't HAVE to do it but it's something I like to do because it's a nice gesture. I would never dream of serving an entire meal to them but a snack has always been a welcome treat for the workers. Give the woman a break! At least she offered cookies.
(Most people I know don’t even offer a drink to workers much less warm cookies.)

I completely understand that J & K PROBABLY did not pay for the projects (does anyone have PROOF they didn’t pay for it?) and it may have been a nice gesture for her to offer a meal but she surely shouldn’t be criticized for not doing so ... even if they didn’t personally pay for the work.

laura weiss said...

Mommy in SC, I respectfully disagree. I see what you are saying, but the way that I was brought up would not allow me to have offered those guys a meal.

Then again, I enjoy cooking and I like it best when I am cooking hearty food for a crowd. I don't we can say that about Kate, despite her strident comments to the contrary and general snottiness about recipes and such. You don't need a recipe to put what basically amounts to snacks from craft services on paper plates and call it lunch, I guess. You don't need a recipe to open up a package of organic cookies.

I can see why she is getting her own cookbook.

DeeB said...

Actually, I would bet the farm that Kate did not bake those cookies. Not a doubt in my mind. So yes, I'd say that little offering of cookies from Craft Services was pretty disingenuous of her.

Also, I cannot tell you how many times I've served sandwiches to workers. I certainly don't have or didn't have the money or resources that she has so I would also agree that she could have done better.

Sorry, but she is so hateful to her husband, her children, and even her fans that it is hard for me to find anything nice that she has done or to see any good intentions from her. With her, there is always an ulterior motive or a lie involved.

These children have such a sad and tough future ahead. Income level doesn't matter much. Kids are kids, and what they bring to the table to share socially with your child is what they've learned from their home environment. We've run across parents with very little income, and also parents that made a ton more money than us... it didn't make a difference-- it had to do with what the parents had invested emotionally in the children.

So many things wrong with this woman.....

I think Kate thinks it is everyone else's responsibility to watch her children but herself. If heaven forbid something had happen to one of those kids during this project you know she would be calling her lawyer before 911. I remember the episode that Aaden got "lost" in the corn field maze, neither of them were too worried I think they thought well we have several adults with us filming someone knows where he is. Again she is so lucky no one picked him up and took him away. This woman makes my blood boil.

My father was raised in the middle of PA Dutch and yes he still after 40 years of living in CA still slips and says things in a way that we all look at him like what??? But I do agree with orchids88 her grammar is just very poor. And I am just amazed on how she is able to even book speaking engagements with her poor language skills.

Steve Thomas really did his homework on Kate and knew what he was walking into. His comments were priceless.

The croc's I think they are beyond ugly and so not what I would put my child in when it was cold enough to snow. Besides that they are dangerous for a child any medical professional would know this they belong in a hospital setting not on children playing.

In regards to her paper plate addiction I could kind of see it not be too bad if she was composting them. I live in San Francisco and per my lease I am required to compost my food waste, and take out containers, pizza boxes, etc that are paper are to be put into the compost bin not with my recyclable container. But I forgot Kate thinks the earth is not going to be around for that long so why bother is her opinion. She could never make it living in this state anyways move here show mean show over.

"This will sound like I'm trying to defend Kate, but I don't think the lunches she serves are inadequate. The kids clearly aren't starving at all."

The kids aren't starving, but on more than one occasion we've seen them ask for food and be denied. That is disturbing. There was one episode where the twins got a bagel and the Tups wanted one too and were told no. They were not offered anything else. Also the kids just said in this episode if they don't take a nap, they don't get a snack. Disturbing. In the several meals I've seen Kate serve, I've seen many that I don't find very balanced, usually lacking a good lean protein, and I've seen many where the portion sizes were way too small. They also don't drink much milk and drink way too much sugary juices, I suppose to fulfill their juicy-juicy contract. I have yet to see Kate serve anything as healthy for lunch as a turkey sandwich on wheat, an apple and a tall glass of milk.

I know some parents use food as a disipline technique, but I firmly believe that food should not be tied to either punishments or rewards. When kids get meals taken away for bad behavior, or are given treats for good behavior like they're a puppy, they can form emotional ties to food that are not healthy. The only thing they need to be learning is about healthy foods and how to recognize when you're hungry and when you're comfortably full, to foster a good relationship with food.

This kind of nonsense Kate does to them with food is setting the girls up to be anorexic, the boys to overeat, all the children to have negative emotions about food and all of them to have difficulty recognizing and interpreting hunger in a productive way. Make no mistake.

********
My just turned 4 year old has completely given up her nap. She does not require it now. In the car she will sometimes fall asleep for 10 min. or so if we've been out all day. I really do feel sorry for these 5 year olds if they are forced into naps they don't require. They go to preschool so does anyone really have to spend that much time with them anyway that they make them nap? Or maybe Kate is just doing it in the very few days of the month that she is home or maybe weekends so she doesn't have to deal with them.

RissaPA219, was Jenny McCarthy not an actual, honest to God real celebrity BEFORE she gave birth to her son? Did she not pen a book (herself mind you) BEFORE she became a mom? Is her sole and main source of income generated by utilizing her son in any way shape or form? Didn't think so.

Also, in what way are the books Kate attatched her name to categorized as self help? I mean, other than 'how to alienate friends and family and lie to your doctor to get more clomid', really, what can be learned from them?

PS- Yeah, umm, no. Beth Carson did not write a self help book. She wrote a book in which Kate Gosselin defined as being a self pity book.

There's an interesting psychology theory out there that says that when a person is deeply emotionally hurt, like in the instance of a child exposed to their parents divorcing, they tend to emotionally stay at the age in which the incident occurred. For example, a fourteen year old who was hurt by her parents divorcing will tend to stay on the emotional level of a fourteen year old even when she's 40. They can't get past it on their own and they do require help from a trained professional.

Personally, I think Jon and Kate both exhibit traits of this theory. Him with his forever 21, I-don't-wanna-grow-up-I'm-a-Toys-R-Us-Kid attitude (dude! awesome!) and her with her tantrums and eluding to odd events in her childhood such as 'well my dad never finished any projects'. In other words, she learned early on to use excuses rather than take responsibilty for her own actions.

Like an addict, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

How can you have your almost 5 year old taking not just a nap but a 2+ hour nap!!! That is insane. How are these kids going to manage in kindergarten....

But at the same time when they went to pre-school after lunch they obvioulsy didn't take a nap...Did they??? I dont' watch anymore...IF they did how can you send your kid from noon until what 2 maybe 3 to preschool and then bring them home and make them take a nap??? What get them up at 4/5 eat dinner and then put them to bed again at 7??? That is crazy!!! Like I said I don't watch anymore so I don't know. But then again since the show is ALL about Kate do they even show this kind of stuff anymore!!!

RE: Lina

I'd like to clarify what was mean't when I used the somewhat dated cliche', "wrong side of the tracks"

Physically or figuratively if one is on the, "right," side of the tracks and the train stops, one may board and move productively forward in their journey to a new and possibly improved local or mindset.

Comparitively, if one is on the, "wrong," side of the tracks and the train stops they may not board and move forward in a productive fashion be it physically or otherwise.

By positioning themselves on the, "wrong," side of the train and it's access door, they have denied themselves the ability to move forward to a new and/or better place.

By using insults, boredom and disdain to communicate positive feelings, Kate polarizes herself and denies herself the benefits of positive forward movement. She is, "stalled," in a very negative place.

Given that she does this while being filmed for footage that will be aired across the USA and parts of Canada. It is very inappropriate for her to be flirting in a healthy or dysfunctional manner, given she is a married woman and mother of eight children who will, at some point, be viewing this behavior.

In regards to my thoughts on you being on the, "wrong," side of the tracks, I can only say I was referring to a personality on a reality TV program, I had no thoughts concerning any individual other than Kate.

You are the author of your own journey. Only you know if you can move forward in a positive and healthy fashion.

It was so obvious that neither Kate nor Jon have any interest in making our planet (and their house) Green and if they hadn't been GIVEN the products and labor for FREE they would have never, ever considered doing those projects themselves -- and then they managed to appear put out by having the work done.

What was with Kate needing to have an hour by hour schedule so she could handle the stress of the work being done OUTSIDE of the house? Just to try to focus more attention on herself? Those workers didn't interfere with anything she was doing -- except for the fact she had to be present to shoot her scenes.

Her scenes were interesting if you watched her wardrobe. Day 1 she wore tan slacks w/dark top and dark slacks with a white top. Her earrings changed back and forth from single large hoops to triple dangling hoops. Day 2 she wore dark slacks with the same white top. Day 3 she was back in the tan slacks with her dark top. With earring changes to match the outfits of course. Whoever was in
charge of continuity wasn't paying attention!

I was repulsed seeing the bottoms of Kate's dirty bare feet during the interview sessions. She has such little respect for her viewers that she can't put on shoes? I get it that she wants to look comfy and relaxed in her home - just as she does when the cameras aren't there, but come on --- have some respect for yourself and the viewers to put on some shoes - or at least wash your feet!

Her snarky fake, put-out attitude about the work being done on the house was hard for me to watch. It appeared she was trying to direct the viewers interest onto herself instead of the fact they were trying to make the house more green - something she appeared to care nothing about. No matter how hard Steve tried to swing the subject around to conserving energy, she wanted NO part of it and he finally gave up and started snapping and snarking right back at her - and he was quite good! She couldn't keep up with him because he knows what he's talking about and all she can do is make up stupid, nonsensical words. His frustration with her was palpable and I'm sure he was glad when their scenes together were over.

It was pretty chilly some of the time they were working on the roof, yet Kate served them cookies and coffee outside in the garage. Would it have killed her to be hospitable and invite them inside to warm up and take a break there instead of stand in the cold? I've never known anyone like her and will be so thankful if I never do. I simply don't understand how others can stand to be around her - especially Jon.

I've got to give credit to the people who so skillfully managed to hide the truly enormous size of the roof they were working on, who kept the pool and surrounding areas hidden from view along with all of the out-buildings and still managed to keep the overall appearance of the Konpound looking rather modest. Why are they trying SOOO hard to hide all these things? Will they EVER tell the truth? I don't need to see all of the cars or know the makes and models, but if you've got a stable full, stop being deceitful about it. Stop the deceit about the size of the property, the 'accessories' the house came with. Will they EVER show their viewers the truth about their lifestyle?

OH, and lastly...this time Mr. Trim, Bart Wagoner, got a mention in the credits along with all of the other product and labor freebie givers.

Late to the party, but Casey and Smudge summed it all up right here:

Did they do any of that?<<

Everything you mentioned is something my family does (except the fuel-efficient car - we do have a relatively fuel efficient car, but we live in a city where we can bicycle almost anywhere we need to go from April to November; and the spending a little more for natural cleaners - I use vinegar & baking soda in some form to clean just about everything).

*That* is the sort of thing that resonates with normal families - maybe people who are a little overwhelmed by all the things they "should" be doing - and a program that showed how a family can start doing "little things" that add up to just being more environmentally conscious as a matter of course would have been so much more valuable.

But I imagine getting J&K to actually *do* anything would be next to impossible. I mean, besides use little cloth snack bags on a car trip to an organic farm to buy an organic half cow and organic macaroons. That sort of thing is glamouros; separating recyclables or hanging laundry on the line? notsomuch...

Two things:

1) I got a haircut last night and my stylist cut my hair shorter than she usually does (by request) so she asked how I liked it. I said something like "As long as I don't look like Kate Gosselin, I'm cool with it" and she laughed and laughed. She said that, from a hair stylist perspective, she does not understand the "do" at all. She actually used the words "two different hairdos on one head" because of the difference between the front of Kate's hair and the back with that spikey peacock look. She also said that whoever gives Kate her highlights is incompetent because no one with proper training should be giving highlights with such noticeable stripes.

2) I know someone who works for one of the companies that supplied the solar panels to the Gosselins. There were 2 different companies featured in the episode if you look at the cartons, he works for the one that was least prominently displayed. Anyway, they said that their company does NOT give away solar panels for free, even for something like a special on TLC. Just food for thought, the Gosselins might have had to pay for some of those panels themselves.

Momof2inMA said...

I've been thinking about this, why, i don't know.

Anyway, maybe Kate bitches about the "cost" because these are considered 'gifts' and they have to pay taxes on them- just a thought-

And ok, the 'tups are going to be 5!!! my oldest just turned 5, he has a 3 yo brother, i know the 'tups were preemies, but i thought they caught up by their 1st birthday- these kids still talk/act very, very young- more like my 3 yo- i'm not criticizing, they are children and everyone is different- but i'm wondering if their mother is keeping them young because they are considered "cuter" and more, gag, marketable. God, I hate even associating that word with these precious kids.

Wow. Kate definitely upped the bitch factor in this episode! Could she be less grateful??! She's getting all of this stuff for free, and yet she still just wants to know how much money it will save her afterwards. Are they still eligible for all of those rebates even though they didn't pay for the solar panels to begin with?

I agree that she could 'save' money and the environment by not using paper plates all the time. I have to smile at the posters who suggest that she could dry her clothes outside and that they could do the same. Here in Australia, that's what we do. It's not a novelty, but then we do have more sunshine.

I noticed that Mady and Cara didn't really make an appearance in the first half of the episode and then when Leah is singing away to herself (which is so cute), along comes Mady to cut her down to size. Oh dear.

Kate couldn't even resist a dig at her own kids (right before she reaches down for a bottle of water- not very 'green' there, producers) putting together the solar lights either. "Is that why they're all falling apart since?" Sigh. Yep, she was in full bitch mode throughout the entire episode.

These two want any attention they can get and I think they don't mind if it's even negative. I'm starting to think we all need to just turn off our computers and tv's and completely forget about them. This episode was actually the one that put me over the edge. I don't care about them anymore.

LPBW (Little People Big World) They both work other jobs (Pumpkin Farm and his LP business for step stools) I heard she went back to teaching this past year). They seem to use the show as a platform for how they overcome adversites. It's so inspiring. I cried when Matt risked his life in Iraq just so some children could have surgery. He started that non-profit group to help people adopt. OMGosh, God Bless them.
Amy and her kids working so hard in New Orleans and stayed in barracks not a 5 star hotel. They are a tremendous family...I think Matt and Amy both had books, but I hear no press about it. They want to help people, not book talk show circuits.

Now on to the Gosselins. Our life is our show and our show is our life. One job between them, beside her vain attempt at book writing. Shame on her. Jon watches the kids, so I guess his job is head weinee. Come on someones got to be the head weinee and he's as good as any and the qualifications fit. Mr. "I got my hand caught in the beerbong and can't afford child support so my wife has me by my kahunas". I think she told him either play my way or pay.

The saddest comment was the one she made about her... The saddest comment was the one she made about her dad. How her hatred of “projects” comes from her father never finishing anything. She did not say this lovingly. She acted as if her father was a total loser. Maybe the guy didn’t finish projects, but was there anything that he did right? Could she maybe stop focusing on what he did wrong and find peace that maybe he wasn’t a perfect father, but he was doing the best he could? Now he is just one more person that has failed to measure up to Kate’s expectations. She has huge expectations of everyone that comes in contact with her. On the flip side, no one should have any expectations of her. People were put on this earth to please her. She doesn’t ever have to reciprocate because she is special.

I also disagree with Steve that she is baking to cover up her vulnerability. She was baking to promote her cookbook. No other reason. I wonder why after spending so much time on the road she didn’t let the cook do the baking and actually go and play with her kids. She stayed in the kitchen as it was the furthest place from the kids. She is now using the house as a barrier to put distance between her and the kids. The bigger the distance, the better. I also find it amazing she bought this big house “for the kids” but now she doesn’t want them in it. She could have just bought a large pasture. Season 6 will open with Kate moving all the kids beds into the garage. The house was allegedly for them, now she doesn’t want them in it. And she doesn’t see how sad that is. She has a huge house and it is empty. No friends, no family. Only Kate and the crew.

And I hate the way everyone plays into her. Everyone tries to appease her. When she came outside with her nasty attitude, I wish those guys would have packed up their stuff and left. I wish someone would stand up to this beast. They made her look like Mother Teresa with the whole cookie thing. She didn’t have to grind the wheat or go to the barn for eggs! Cookies are pretty easy to make. And they don’t take all day to make. They didn’t have to elevate her to the status of queen for a day for it. And the way she talked to those guys, I’m surprised they ate the cookies. Not sure if I would eat cookies baked by such an angry woman.

The way she mocked Steve in the interview portion was incredibly disrespectful. He just spent 3 days working out in the bone chilling cold and she mocks him? She needs to treat people with dignity and respect. Mocking his enthusiasm for his work was insulting to Steve and the entire green movement. She appreciates nothing. She may offer a very low key “thank you” and say she appreciates them, but it is not sincere..

The kids are so cute, but they are in for the ride of their life with their mother. They will never be able to please that woman. They will never live up to her expectations. They will always be chasing her love and never quite get there. She is far from loving with her kids. She did push Maddie away. That is what she does on camera. Any quess to what she does off camera? Has anyone ever seen these 2 parents read to these kids? You would think that a big time author like kate would have a very literate household. It would be full of books and the kids would be read to every day. They are way behind developmentally. They were premie’s, but they should have caught up by now. Their verbal skills are 2 years behind.

Kate is vile with every person she comes in contact with. She may think she is being funny, but she isn’t. She is rude and disrespectful. Her needs are the only ones that matter. She does not act loving with her kids or with anyone else in her life. Her only regret in life seems to be that she has but one lifetime to fume over the indignities done to her. Indignities being people coming to her house and disrupting her precious time with their “projects”. After all, she is special. They are not.

I can’t watch the show without getting angry. Angry that she has nothing but disdain for other people, yet expects them to treat her the same way they would treat the queen. I’m angry that she can’t act lovingly towards her kids. I’m angry that she has an overwhelming sense of entitlement in a time where people are struggling to put food on their kids plates. No matter how much she has, it is not enough. She has a big house but she has no soul. Each episode she becomes more and more disenchanted with her kids. It is sad to watch that. From a clinical perspective, I know how this plays out. You can’t just tell your kids you love them. You have to show them love. It’s been a long time since she has shown them anything but contempt for the existence. I think she now sees them a just another “project” cluttering up her life

I just watched Go Green on Youtube. My God. This family is not gonna last long. Count me in with another poster that as unreal it would seem to us, kate has definitely left the marriage, as least emotionally. Other then her fake smile at the end with Lex, she didn't even touch her kids ONCE. WTH???

And God help me I felt for Jon. He's no better then kate as far as selling out his kids's lives, but he's a coward that's never been able to really stand up to his wife and it would make more sense that kate has attracted the attention of someone else, he would now go to his mom's, be seen in bars on VD. He probably doesn't know how else to react seeing as he can't leave or feels he can't. Speaking from exp. when the person I did EVERYTHING for and thought would be there no matter what checked out on me, your mind goes blank and you feel like you're gonna drown. Here's jon who's been whipped by her for how long and now she's the one moving on, he's displaying all the classic signs and so is she.

Here they were talking about love and Valentine's Day, remember last year's? They at least looked at each-other and smiled, this year, cold hard stares and NO mention of love between them. Really it was chilling.

As far as the "flirting" I definitely feel in kate's warped view (especially if there is someone else she's into) that she can get any guy's attention. I think the first day steve played along but by the second he was done and bowled over at how she was. Him with the cookie, OMG, classic. What made it even better was the other guy standing down from him smirking at the camera as steve went on about the "love" that went into the cookie, priceless.

I would have been more impressed with KON going green if they really meant it but with Kate's attitude, she doesn't care about being green or the environment. She certainly has no interest in helping others who are less fortunate. Kate's biggest charity is Kate. Kate's biggest cause is Kate.

I can't wait until the show ends and Kate is left with nothing (by nothing I mean, no family, no friends etc... the things in life that make us truly rich).

I agree with everything you said about Kate, especially how the future might look.

I knew someone for a while who acted much like Kate, but was older (age 64) and went to the trouble of hiding her nature at first. But the true colors came out eventually and it was a shock.

In this woman's case, her adult kids live far away and have clearly put up boundaries. She can visit the grandkids, but can't stay with the family when she visits their town. She is no longer welcome to call her lawyer son to complain about her numerous perceived indignities (i.e., people not treating her like the queen she thinks she is). And yes, this woman has pretty much made her way in the world by demanding material things out of people, particularly men. She is always on the lookout for any illusory oversight another person might make so that she can magnify it and demand compensation. Her favorite cdemand is that the "slighter" pay for her to go on a cruise or other trip, where guess what, she trolls for more suckers! But at 64, that's becoming tougher despite facelifts and hours of makeup application. She has also experienced poor health.

My reading about narcissism relating to my former acquaintance(not diagnosing here!)suggests they rarely/never seek help and get worse with age, are deeply insecure and empty inside so they keep trying to fill the void with more and more material things. People and things are the same to them--only there to provide for their supply. Their children often need counseling for the reasons you stated. And they do end up alone eventually, having driven everyone away.

If you put, say, tee-shirts in the dryer for 10—15 minutes and then hang them on the line (inside out to prevent fading), they are soft, don’t have wrinkles and smell great! I always put my sheets on the clothesline, and the wonderful smell makes me swoon. :)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I've never believed Kate when she said she has PCOS.
Here are some of the symptoms:

infrequent menstrual periods, no menstrual periods, and/or irregular bleeding
infertility (not able to get pregnant) because of not ovulating
increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes—a condition called hirsutism (HER-suh-tiz-um)
ovarian cysts
acne, oily skin, or dandruff
weight gain or obesity, usually carrying extra weight around the waist
insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes
high cholesterol
high blood pressure
male-pattern baldness or thinning hair
patches of thickened and dark brown or black skin on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighs
skin tags, or tiny excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area
pelvic pain
anxiety or depression due to appearance and/or infertility
sleep apnea—excessive snoring and times when breathing stops while asleep

Anyway, my Niece does have PCOS and she is as sweet as honey.

Kate is simply a nasty person.
Testosterone or no testosterone, she would be nasty!

This episode was a joke. I did enjoy Steve telling Kate she was "talking angry" several times. I wish more people would talk like that to her royal highness!

What got me good was that she kept saying how all she cared about was the costs of it and then as Steve was telling her how he did some research and started giving her the numbers, she tuned out rudely and said that wouldn't make the show. So, what costs were so important to her?

Towards the end she said something to the effect that warmer weather was coming soon and that the kids would be outside and that she wouldn't be, now that is sweet.

Even if one were to take PCOS as a contributing factor in Kate's being 'angry 24/7', there are therapies/remedies ie, traditional/medical and or alternative/ homepathic to assist in aleviating/supressing her symptoms. Having PCOS may very well be a contributing factor as to Kate being 'angry 24/7' but just as Kate made the CHOICE to pursue medical intervention to assist in her becoming pregnant, she could do that same with respect to her PCOS related symptom of being 'angry 24/7'. IMO, Kate using her 'PCOS' made for for a great 'amazing story', just as her being 'angry 24/7' makes for great reality tv ratings.

Kate was so ungrateful this episode and acted worse than she usually does. She was very sarcastic and acted like she really didn't want to be there and she even made some comments about being by herself inside and she loved that.
I would of thought Kate would of loved to "Go Green" since she is all about organic and not eating nothing but organic & absolutely no fast food..yeah, right! We have seen Happy Meals in Utah, so we don't fall for that one anymore. She also said she gave the kids "Fruit Rollups" and they aren't organic, now are they? Yeah, I'm nitpicking, but if you are going to preach it, then stay with it and don't be 2 faced.
I felt really sad for the kids when she kept mentioning springtime was coming fast and she could push the kids out the door ALL DAY LONG & even have lunch outside & that made her so happy...you would think with as much traveling as she does, and in her interviews she always says how she hates to be away from them, that she would want to be spending more time with the kids. She is never going to change!
Kate didn't care about the "Free Going Green" solar panels/lights/picnic table she was receiving because IMO I don't believe KON doesn't pay for anything....YET! TLC is footing the bill and thats why she wasn't very interested when Steve was telling her about the huge tax breaks and big refunds she would be receiving cause she knew TLC gets all of that.
I usually don't feel sorry for Mady, cause she is out of control, but this episode, I did. When Kate came down from the lift, Mady tried to hug her & she pushed her away...how pathetic. Kate gave more attention to the dog than she did her own children.
Kate needs to be brought down a few notches cause she is getting "too big for her britches".

Another thing that absolutely blew my mind is that she STILL FORCES the kids to take naps....OR NO SNACKS!!! Good Lord Kate, they are almost 5, they aren't babies!!! IMO, she doesn't want to be around them now, she just wants the reep the rewards that the kids can bring her and the money she makes off of them!
Give the kids a break-you should be happy with what you have and be grateful God gave you those 8 beautiful kids!
Maybe I shouldn't say this, but I'm going to....it seems like Kate loved it when the kids were babies, but now that they aren't the little squishy babies they used to be, she doesn't have the patience or time for them...and that's why I think she wants to adopt another GIRL baby!
KATE...KIDS GROW UP AND U SHOULD, TOO! They need you to love them for who they are, not for what they can do for you! Quit using your kids and let them be normal kids without cameras in their faces 24-7! Greed is a very bad thing and you will reap what you sow!

About PCOS...I have PCOS and I don't have nearly half of the symptoms that one blogger listed. A lot of times you don't know a person has it...some people are just fat or hairy or any number of those symptoms. It is possible to maintain a healthy weight and to have few symptoms (most of the symptoms for diagnosis deal with the reproductive organs and the testsoterone.) I am on those medications another blogger mentioned and still have awful mood swings.
After saying all that I don't think it is her PCOS that contributes to her being a bitch---I really think it is the fact that she is just a bitch and can't stop.

Sue, I wasn't making excuses for either of them. Sorry if you took it that way. It's just something I thought was worth thinking about/considering. I'm sorry for what you had to endure. But you know something? You are absolutely right about what you said. Not knocking therapy either, but there are those who can deal, and those who can't. My point was meant to be this: There's these two a** hats complaining about things such as 'my dad never did finish my mom's honey do list' when there are people out there in this world who have truly suffered. In their own minds, they might think they did, but they did not.

Also, I don't watch the show. Haven't for quite some time now. But I do like visiting these boards. The conversations are good and the posters are intelligent and informative.

I have PCOS, and no, it is not known for causing mood swings. Kate is just being herself on TV, as far as I can tell. And what she is, is a nasty, negative, uncaring person. That is very sad.

WHY did KON let their kids play around the construction zone when they should have been in a safer area? C'mon - if you really think about it you can figure it out. It's the same reason why they continue to use the tups to announce "Next on Jon & Kate + 8..." when their speech is unintelligible. To paraphrase Kate: "The kids are the show and the show is their life."
********
Speaking of their speech being unintelligible--which is undeniably is..they have to use subtitles so we can understand them! Ok, I can understand them once in a while. I will give them that. But today I took my 4 year old to a preschool screening to see if she is eligible for pre-k next year since it is not a part of the public schools here and you have to qualify. Anyway, in the handout it had the expectations of children and speech by age. A 4 year old like mine should be understood at least 80% of the time and they had info on how big their vocabulary should be, which letters they might still mispronounce, etc. For 5 year old like the tups (5 in a very short time), the criteria tells me they are very far behind. Their language is just not appropriate for their age. I already knew this, but the handouts really hit home how far behind they are. To everyone who says they are preemies so it is ok, no, that is not true. I have not seen anything that says at age 5 they should be lagging like this. In fact, my child was also a preemie. The only thing she was slow to catch up on was some motor skills. She walked late and a few other things. It stated the obvious, how talking to your kids, discussing things, teaching them, READING to them, spending time with them, and so many other thing, are what gets kids talking. They are not going to learn it being in their own little herd and ignored most of the time as they are.

I have PCOS, and with the exception of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, male pattern baldness, and sleep apnea, I have all of those symptoms. When Kate said she had PCOS I have to admit, I was a little jealous that she doesn't seem to have any of the symptoms. Not all people with PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) have cysts on their ovaries, and not all people with cysts have PCOS. Also, some women, like another poster noted, don't have a lot of the outward signs, but many do.

My husband and I haven't actively started trying for a family yet, but I know it won't be as easy for us to get pregnant as it was for Jon and Kate. Many women with PCOS try for years and cannot conceive, and often miscarry when they do. Miscarriages are another terrible part of PCOS, which is something I fear greatly.

I guess, in the end, I would have to admit that I am jealous of Jon and Kate. They have 8 beautiful children that they conceived rather effortlessly (compared to many with her health condition) and yet they don't seem to appreciate them or want to love on them 24/7.

As for the mood swings, I have read that PCOS can cause mood swings in some women. And I have experienced them myself, but really, what person - male or female - hasn't experienced them at some point or another? The problem is, with Kate her attitude can't be contributed to mood swings, because that implies that at some point she isn't grouchy. To be a mood swing the mood actually has to change. She's constantly a grump.

"I have PCOS..."

Your post was so sad I couldn't go to bed 'til I said something to you.
You know, Sam, there are MANY people who believe Take's story of having PCOS is just that - a story. Like most everything she says and does, it is an EXCUSE to explain how they ended up with six kids when they only wanted "one."
Some of us believe Hate never had PCOS, nor did she have any other infertility problem. Starting with, "When I was a little girl, I used to tell my mother that I thought I might not be able to have babies...", continuing with "needing help" to conceive the twins and sextuplets, right on through to her final goal of successfully selling her carefully constructed family to Figure 8 Productions/TLC, Take apparently had a plan all along. Obviously, she married Yawn knowing he would never be good husband or employee material, but he did have a wealthy father. Sadly, Yawn's father died. Not to worry, Take had a plan, a plan that was hers', all hers'. And she had Yawn just where she wanted him - eating out of the palm of her hand, dumb and blind to reality. Here is the "other" story, Sam. This is the story that adds up, makes sense, and reaches all the logical conclusions, unlike the story Take erroneously thought viewers would fall for:
Just a few months after she married the town dork who was too dumb and blinded by Take's bleached blonde hair and little baby voice to know what hit him, Hate implemented part two of her plan. Reminding everyone that she used to complain to her mother about not being able to have babies (this never happened), Take saw an infertility specialist and, drawing on facts she had memorized from one of her numerous medical books, she spouted off "symptoms" and whined about the many long months, possibly years, that hadn't resulted in pregnancy for Take. "Aha!" said Dr. Specialist, "You've got all the symptoms of PCOS. I'll just give you these fertility drugs and you'll be preggers in no time!" And sure enough, right on schedule, she was. With twins! When the beautiful baby twin girls were barely a year old, Hate decided they weren't "babies" anymore; without a BABY, her life just wasn't worthwhile. She decided to see Dr. Specialist again. However, as often happens with Hate, their relationship ended because he just didn't (or WOULDN'T)know how to help her this time. Enter Dr. Specialist II. Once again Take spouted symptoms and whined and even cried. After all, Yawn was proving to be a worse provider than she originally planned on. Good thing she refreshed her memory with those medical books and ALL those fictitious "symptoms" of PCOS she suffered from. Two weeks later, the fertility medicine caused Take's ovaries to get overstimulated, meaning too many eggs were being released for possible conception. Dr. Specialist II vehemently warned Take and Yawn NOT to attempt pregnancy yet as this was a dangerous state of affairs that could result in HOM. But then, one month and five weeks after seeing the specialist, voila'! Hate was pregnant with sextuplets. It was a "miracle" and they were "blessed." Time to notify all the media outlets. WOWEEE! Yawn "would never have to work another day in his life!"
You know how the story ends.
Sam, every woman is different - our bodies are unique. One woman's experience is never a carbon copy of someone else's experience with infertility, pregnancy, possible miscarriage, birth. Statistics are ON YOUR SIDE. Go to the library and get as many books on infertility that you can carry;read them all! You will see that your situation is far from hopeless and your chances for a healthy conception, pregnancy and birth are greater and more hopeful far beyond what you allude to in your post. Please do this - Monday morning. No woman should suffer as you are suffering because you read or heard a little bit of information based on someone else's personal experience. You owe this quest for knowlege about infertility to yourself, your husband, your marriage, and your future children.
Good luck, Sam, and God bless.

Tami said this: "They are not going to learn it being in their own little herd and ignored most of the time as they are." You are so right. that is how I felt watching the new episodes earlier this year. Seeing the kids treated as a herd. may have bothered me more than Kate's attitude. Jon and Kate could each read them two books at night, with a child sitting to either side of them for one story and switching off to the other 4 for the next story. The kids would love cuddling in next to Mom or Dad. While the cameras are rolling, I think there will be the opposite visual with octomom. She will be nauseating with her hugging and kissing the kids on camera. I saw her in a few clips and it was too much. I won't be watching that reality show either.

Now that they have money, Jon and Kate should bring someone in to work with the kids on their speech and other skills. I wasn't thinking about their being behind when I posted about home schooling recently. If they were evaluated and are behind, that could be another reason if they home school.

Did you all notice if you watched the show that when they did the thing at the beginning about how the solar panels work that they used a catoon picture of the house instead of actually showing an ariel pic of the house. You know why? Well if they showed an actual ariel pic then the sheeple would know that they have a beautiful pool, and it would show the actuall size of the house and not just the silly little animated drawing that they used to make the episode so neat!

About K8's strange words~~~~ well first I believe she is basically uneducated, lazy, and doesnt care what anyone thinks. Also I do have some friends that come from that area and they dont talk like her, but they do have some choice phrases that my husband and I still pick on them for(in good fun) like dish machine(meaning dishwasher), phone machine or message machine(even if its voice mail!LOL!) for answering machine, and my favorite *I was goona do whatever*. Ha.......... I still think its just lazynessish or something you know, and she thinks she is the mightyestish of the mighty!

there are millions of families who are struggling who could have really used the help these people gave to the gosselins. They could have made a feel good show about helping families in need go green. It could have been a tear jerker and gotten great ratings. But no, they wasted good potential on greedy people.

Alana,

I wasn't trying to say Kate did or didn't have PCOS, I was noting that everyone's experiences are different and she apparently doesn't suffer with many symptoms, like some women don't. I couldn't tell whether you were being sarcastic about Kate or not. At first I thought you were being serious, but as I kept reading I wasn't sure anymore - it seemed so silly, why would any sane person do that?

I hope I didn't give the impression that I'm not well-read on my health condition. I have read many things from many sources, including scientific studies and clinic trials. I see a doctor that is knowledgeable about PCOS as well. She told me that given the severity of my symptoms she believes that conceiving will be difficult, as it has been with most of the women with the severity of my symptoms. She did advise us, however, to wait until we are fully ready to have a family to try any medical help, because there is always the chance that it could happen immediately.

I'm just saying Kate is blessed to be a woman with PCOS that doesn't suffer too severely with the symptoms and infertility that many do. I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes by saying that.

Alana, I hope I didn't offend you or make you think I'm uneducated about PCOS. I do think I worry a bit too much, but I believe my fears and worries are based on what is the common experience for women with PCOS.

I would direct anyone to the following website if they would like a good source of information on the subject.

Thank you for responding with your advice. I appreciate your concern.

God bless.

I was watching some other shows on my tape and the KON go green episode came on that I taped for my son at his request. I decided to watch a little of it because after reading recaps I realize I miss so much with all the noise going on in my house. Anyway, I noticed it was very poorly spliced together. They show Hate coming toward the house like she is arriving and of course complaining about something. A second later they show her coming OUT of the house and the kids playing with the dogs on the porch ask her if she had a good nap! So she was napping while her kids played around construction areas, I guess. Then as she ignores her kids and walks by the voiceover said she had been to the grocery to get baking ingredients. What poor continuity. :::sigh:::

Oh, my! I'm afraid you've completely misinterpreted my comments. Believe it or not, I was trying to express some compassion and empathy towards you. I've also experienced infertility and the three years prior to having four babies in a row were the most difficult and unhappy years of my life. I'm bewildered as to how, in what I believed was a genuinely thoughtful post to you, was somehow construed as a highly critical and personal attack; NOT TRUE! My comment about the library had NOTHING to do with your "level of education." That never crossed my mind; it was a suggestion for comfort - whew!
I can't explain it any better than this:
It sounds as though you do believe that Take has a medical condition that made it next to impossible to conceive without infertility intervention; and that condition is PCOS. However, Sam, many of us call "BALONEY" on this LIE. We believe it's simply another example of Hate's extraordinary capacity to manipulate and deceive in order to get what she wants, WHEN SHE WANTS IT. PCOS was a means to an end - HOM. And if these HOM were exploited effectively, she'd live happily and be wealthy ever after; much like she is today.(Unfortunately, her children AND her husband, have become one more solution, another quick fix, in a lifetime of Kate's "tricks", that failed to bring her happiness and peace.)
I was trying to present to you reasons and facts that have illuminated for many of us here at GWoP what we regard as the ACTUAL TRUTH - Take DOES NOT have PCOS. She told a specialist that she had the symptoms as a way to get the treatment in hopes it would lead to a pregnancy producing HOM.
I don't know how much of this blog you've read. However, if you will just skim posts, articles, links, and their comments, chances are pretty good you'll come to the same conclusion we have. And since you're "highly educated" and "well-read" on the subject of women's health and infertility, it won't take long for you to see how Hate added two and two and came up with six. Four long seasons later, she's still trying to convince viewers that just because SHE says it, makes it SO!
Sadly, some of them believe her. But that's another blog!

Best regards to you, Sam. Sorry for the "misunderstanding."

There are millions of women out there with POCS who are not greedy shrews who exploit their kids and do not appreciate what they have in life.

Alana,

I'm confused by your second post. I didn't think your post was a personal attack. Because you told me to run out and read as much as I could, I assumed that I had somehow implied that I hadn't done any research on the subject. I didn't want you to think I'm some idiot that self-diagnoses themselves based on other people's situations. That's why I was letting you know that I have in fact researched the matter after being diagnosed by a doctor. My particular case is quite severe, unlike some with the same condition. I offered a sincere note of gratitude at the bottom, in case you didn't notice.

About the statement I made in regards to Kate's PCOS, that was a genuine inquiry. I wasn't sure if you were just joking about Kate and making a back story up, or if you really thought that was the way things happened, I didn't know. I don't want to say Kate doesn't have PCOS, but I admit that when she first said she had it I was a bit skeptical. But, I have seen other women with it that look like Kate - skinny, no areas of bad skin or other embarrassing physical symptoms. Because I don't like it when people assume I'm some fat, lazy slob that doesn't take care of her skin, I have to figure that I also wouldn't like for people to think I'm lying if I said I had it and didn't show any signs. Like I said, I'm not saying she does or doesn't have it, I'm just saying if she does she is one of the fortunate ones without any signs. I, however, have to work really hard to fight what seems like a losing battle with weight loss.

Like I said before, nothing I said was meant to offend anyone. I was just offering my thoughts.

That was my thought exactly! TLC pays for everything for these two just so they can get shows made. Once in a while the businesses themselves shell out freebies for advertisement, but I'll bet TLC usually has to compensate them anyway.

Just thought I would point out to Jon and Kate in reguards to "wanting" another picnic table.

Perhaps, you could order another one from the manufacturer or individual who really did make the one you got for free.
I'm sure they would be happy to sell you and ship to you to assemble it (just like the one you got for free). Only thing is you may have to actually have to pay for another. It's just a thought.

It is pretty clear, Cara and Mady had NO interest in helping put together the picnic table, or better yet no interest in camera time which is what really was the intention of having them help.
Kate better rethink turning them into "show biz kids". It's clear they don't have the personalites required for a career in front of a camera. And, that's a good thing!

I dont know why alot of people are baggin' on Steve. I've seen his show and Iam a 23 y/o female. Not exactly the target "grandpa-and-friends" audience. I thought Steve did the best he could in this freak show. I was impressed at how much he could hold his tongue. He knew Kate was a shrew. I LOVED how he was asking if Kate wanted to see the exact placement of the panles. Kate said she didnt care and Steve asked Jon, "Can you make the decision? *Then thinks* No we better get Kate." You should have seen Jon, HALARIOUS! He was like "No I can make the call." and Steve goes, "Are you sure?" HAHAHAHA! I bet Jon feels sooooo manly when other people know hes "the whipping boy."

I agree with this re-cap in that the kids speech is bad. I honestly cannot understand them sometimes! And poor Hannah is turning into Kate. I'll bet when Kate is out "working" that Hannah steps right in and tells Jon what should be done.

This epi was boring. The bottom line......Stopping styrofoam/paper plates, install low flow "potties", and not have stage lighting in your house, you'll save MORE than having solar panals in the cloudy depths of PA.

Three Amazing Kids-
I posted a min. ago and just now read your post. I agree with you! I happen to live in a 500 sq home with my husband and 2 children. There is one bedroom and one bathroom. The house was build 40 years ago and does NOT have insolation. It looks like a cabin. No foam in the walls and no protection from the roof. ALL WOOD! When I wake up in the morning and walk into the living room I CAN SEE MY BREATH! I begin to move our space heater from the bedroom to the living room to prepare for my children (2 y/o and 9 months) to wake up. Every morning I hope that by the time the living room heats up the bedroom hasnt completely FROZEN. Our electric bill for one month is $335 bucks. (And I can PROVE that!) 335 for 500sq? Insane. The hubby and I are saving like MAD to get enough for a down on a house. Iam SICKENED to see Kate Bitching and ungreatful of her solar panles. I just wanna say, "KATE. STOP COMPLAINGING! WHILE YOU ARE COZY IN YOUR McMANSION, IAM BUNDELING MY KIDS UP AND DRESSING THEM IN 2 LAYERS OF CLOTHES.....INSIDE THE HOUSE!"

Thank you for posting, about how TLC could have helped some low income housing. We arnt doing bad either. We have a savings account (mind you small) and MANY Americans dont have that...or jobs!

Kate is just soooooooo ignorant to the condition of this country/ecocomy.

Just my two cents worth on the PCOS debate...for those of you who have been commenting on how Kate doesnt visibly show some of the symptoms characteristic of PCOS such as being hirsute, having acne or thinning hair, keep in mind that Kate's appearance has changed dramatically since the show started. In the very early episodes, and in the videos showing her before she had kids, she doesnt look as skinny as she does right now. Thanks to TLC's generosity, she's been getting free makeovers of all sorts. Didnt she have something done to her stomach in one of the earlier episodes? Perhaps she had surgery done to make her look as skinny as she does now. And TLC's very generous makeup crew would help reduce the appearance of any hirsuteness or acne that she might have. I'm not saying that she does or does not really have PCOS...but I'm just saying we cant draw any conclusions based on her appearance alone. As for me, from what I have seen of this sick show (sorry I dont watch it regularly, I cant stand the sight of Kate...she brings out pure unadulterated hatred in me, and I could do without all that negativity so I try not to watch the show) I wouldnt put it past Kate to lie simply for her own interests.

What gets me about the going green episode is that the Gosselins probably got everything for FREE for their 1.5 million dollar house in return for promoting the new show on TLC and the products being used. And there was Kate...nag, nag, nag. I sure do hope that they are teaching their children to be appreciative of what they have, but then again there's Maddie who seems to be following in Mommy's footprints.

I used to be a fan of the show, but have stopped watching when TLC reruned the show too much. I am just watching again now, and it strikes me as how fake Kate is. She looks more and more like a celebrity & less and less like a mom. However, I am sure the sheeple will misconstrue it to how a "successful" mother should look.

Both of the parents are so cold towards the children & it seems even the hired help is more affectionate towards them.

Notice also, the kids are delegated (or should I say banished) to the outside of the house most of the time (but must stay on the lane, as on the ep "Home sweet home", one of the kids say fearfully along the lines of "but the grass is wet")

I hope they get pulled from TV, but if they were, who would support the livestyle K&J need? I also hope the poor kids get tons of counselling & grow up to be relatively normal adults. All the best, Gosselins troop.
