Puppies, February 23

Now that the Gosselins live in a more spacious home, Jon and Kate have agreed that it's time to expand their already large family. To the delight of the Gosselin children, the whole family sets out to get two new puppies!

I don't understand why someone who dislikes mess and dirt and forces their kids to not wear shoes in the house would ever want 1 dog, let alone 2. The Kate I have been watching would never want an animal in her house. Now everyone can see how phony this show is.
Of all the things they could have dreamt(sp) up, this is the most ridiculous. How will she maintain her composure when the dog pees, poops, tracks in dirt, get fleas, etc. How fake.

Anna said...

Who wants to place bets that we only see the dogs for about 3 shows, and then never see them again? Just like everyone else that these kids fall in love with, Kate only lets them stick around for alittle while, and then they're gone.

MichelleS said...

Yep..and she will most likely walk around telling the kids "its a good thing we have daddy to clean up this beautiful mess".. such a shame.

Ideas anyone for the puppies' names?

My suggestions: Cash and Freeloader

I personally am excited about this show. I love German Shepherds. We have one and she is the sweetest dog. And they are the cutest puppies!

News to Kate:

I have a german shepherd/lab mix and he sheds like you would not believe...Miss OCD-when she wants to be-is not gonna be happy.

Love dogs (and cats), but loathe the idea of the Gosselins owning either.

I once thought that it would be good for the kids to have a big older lab or some other patient breed that was good with kids, but with Jon and Kate both being so selfish and inconsistent with running their household, I wouldn't wish that existence on any animal.

This makes me so mad. Please do not bring (and KEEP!) more innocent creatures into such a toxic household.

I honestly hope the rumors of the dogs being given away after a few weeks is true. The LAST thing this family needs is a pet (let alone TWO!) - well, maybe the last thing they need is another child, but two puppies is pretty close.

As Anna said, I give it three shows. Then on the couch, Kate and Jon will interrupt each other as usual while spitting out a story like "it just didn't suit our lifestyle" or "we knew a family who REALLY wanted dogs so we wanted to give back. By giving them our dogs. The kids understood that it's important to give back. So we did."

Who wants to take a stab at their excuse when the dogs inevitably leave (IhopeIhopeIhope)?

If she hated the piss/poop/puke aspect of children, why the HELL would you get DOGS?!

I am a frequent visitor to the shelters in my area. It breaks my heart to see so many poor helpless animals looking for a home. I have even had some "bad reputation" breeds come up to me and want to be petted. Maybe they should do a show on the overcrowded shelters and select a few dogs to adopt or just foster. I love all dogs but I don't need to see Kate Gosselin pretend she needs to add another 2 to her already overcrowded schedule (life?) just for ratings. She doesn't care about cute or sweet anything.

Snerk said...

All I can say is remember the short, unhappy lives of the crabs in North Carolina. Kate should only be permitted to allow her children pet rocks until she masters mothering.

As posted on another blog, I know how they can train the new puppies. Borrowing from the way they toilet trained the tups, they can reward the doggies with one kibble for peeing outside; two, for pooping outdoors.

This is a totally plot device. A manipulative way to get TLC the most bang for their buck. Cuteness x2 (kids, puppies, kids playing with puppies), check! Getting Keight's skunk-like hair all up in a dander, check! The "so what?; what do you want _me_ to do about it????" shrugging of Jon's shoulders in response to QFI's (Queen Freebies Irene) bitching, ohhh, check! It's a win-win situation for everybody.

Just say 'NO!' to this manipulating by TLC!

The PP's statement that they'll be seen for the next 2 or 3 eppys and then never again is sadly going to happen, to me. Sad for the kids. Give an inconvenient (for HER) gift to the kids, take it away. Just so long as the gravy train rides on.

Professional Mom said...

I believe that it has already been revealed what has happened to the dogs. The show is taped, of course, and a person who says that they helped with the adoption, helped in relocating the dogs to another home. The dogs will be shipped off for obedience training, and then one of the kids will have an allergy, and the dogs are gone. They are already in another home, with new owners.

So you all win the bets!

Professional Mom said...

I know what one of the dogs should be named: "HELLO!"

And how about, "coupon".

Shellybelly said...

That woman needs a catscan. She's stressed out with 8 kids (per her) and complains constantly about the mess, yetttt, they bring two innocent puppies into the Beverly Hillbillies spinoff. Jethro oops I mean Jon, needs to do some cipherin' and figure out how he's gonna get some free stuff from dog companies.. Anything for ratings I guess.

Midwest Mom said...

I remember an episode where Kate literally freaked out because one of the boys had broken a knob off the dresser. She stood there shreaking at the kids because of it.

Can you imagine what happens the first time the new puppies chew a hole thru one of her designer shoes?

shellybellysmom said...

If I see those dogs chained up. I swear I will march with PETA in PA> I know those poor dogs will be forgotten in about 2 weeks. ANNND if they were responsible, how about adoption of a shelter pet. They should have their heads examined.

I heard they already got rid of the puppies. They are going to "explain" the puppies' absence due to some of the kids having "allergies." Well, if my kid had an allergy, I would research which dogs are hypoallergenic. They just got these puppies for a "show." For ratings! Another KON sham!!!

FXfanatic said...

Now people will finally take notice and this show will be gone.

Exploit kids, no biggie but PUPPIES!!!!!
Call Peta, the National Guard and the Air Force! Puppies shall not be exploited for TV Ratings (Kids, so what, but doggies, NO WAY).

Pardon my sarcasm it just amazes me that NOW people think this family MIGHT not be so great. I love doggies and wouldn't wish any dog on Kate except maybe one of Michael Vick's dogs (oh, don't get me started on THAT now).

Dogs rule!

Don't get me wrong, I love pets. We have a dog, two cats, and an aquarium for our children. However... I have a problem with the fact that more people will become outraged over the treatment of the pets as opposed to the treatment of the children. I am not any type of activist, not an outspoken left or right winger, I have never been arrested for protesting any kind of event, I am simply a mother who has the best interest of not only my children, but all innocent children, at heart. I think it is a sad day when there is more attention given to puppies being neglected and not well-cared for while there is a house full of children who are ignored and pushed off on other people on a daily basis. Just my opinion...

Lisak said...

When they get rid of the dogs, I have heard they blame it on one of the kids having allergies to dogs. I remember Beth had a couple of dogs and we never heard of any allergy then. Once again the kids will bond with something and Kate will once again rip it away from them, just like all family members and friends.

jonandkatewho? said...

I'm glad if it's true that the dogs now have a new home.

I too think it would be a nightmare existence for any animal to live in that household.

Those kids hit each other all the time, and they are sort of wild and undisciplined. They would not probably mean to hurt a pup, but probably would nonetheless. Those kids didn't like Beth's dogs, right? Why on earth would these two idiots even dream of a getting a dog, much less two, unless they were just following another script for the show by TLC to boost ratings?

Let's see how people feel about the show after the pups are gone.

I feel especially sorry for Mady on this one. She will likely just love having pups there, and Kate will make them disappear just like she does to everybody Mady loves. I really feel for Mady. I like the kid. She seems independent and troubled to me, and just crying out for somebody to understand and care for her. She's resentful and doesn't get what she needs from her parents, and it's really cruel to tease that child and let her love an animal only to have it/them disappear because of the idiocy and laziness of her parents.

Kate is far too lazy to invest time in caring for animals.

And as for Jon....well what can I say? As usual Kate calls the shots. Nothing new there.

I can't even believe that people will buy whatever load of crap they use for an excuse, but no doubt some will.

Addison said...

So, I guess we'll be seeing Mady and Cara this week. It's been what like three episodes since we last saw them?

I personally think that they should have gotten cats or an adult dog of a large submissive breed. Puppies are too small and helpless to be in a home where that many kids will undoubtedly be poking and prodding them. Not to mention older dogs may already be house trained.

My family had a German Shepherd when I was a kid and he always nipped and bit at my shoes like he was trying to "herd" me. I was quite a bit older than the 'tups at the time (more like the twins age), but I thought it was really scary when he did this. I was actually pretty intimidated by him in general and didn't really like to be around him. I think they are probably better dogs for families without young children.

The dogs' names are Nala (female) and Shoka (male). This is according to Jane when he was at Penn State. Shoka was named after a security guard they 'met' in Hawaii who was a very large man --they thought it would be a good name for a dog who would grow up to be very big. hmmmmm

BTW, Penn State has the biggest college student philanthropy in the country called THON. It is a dance marathon held for the Four Diamonds Fund which provides monies to help children and their families who are being treated at Hershey Medical for childhood cancer. Too bad the Kon's couldn't do something for this charity which is right in their own back yard. THON 2009 was held this weekend and just ended a couple of hours ago -- these college kids raised over $7 MILLION dollars!

No way should that household ever have puppies, especially a working breed. These can be really nice pets, but need to have obiedence training and given a job to be happy well adjusted pups.

These 'parents' have already shown can't train the howler monkeys ... there is absolutely no way they can take care of dogs.

Fay said...

I sure hope these puppies are not just for rateings that will be terrible,I can not believe how low these so called parents will go, how very sad. The kids will get attached, then the puppies are gone just like everyone else who has been in these childrens lives.I know what they could call the pups, Aunt Jodi and Uncle Kevin.

Lala said...

This is a mistake on so many levels. I cringe at the inevitability of these dogs getting their own outside residence! There is no way Kate(especially) and Jon(after seeing the walk in the woods) will be able to tolerate 2 puppies in their house. She has issues w/her own chlidren following her poop protocal. Kate, puppies will NEVER follow your protocal, no matter how loud or close to their faces you scream it. Those adults have no patience for children, have they no idea the patience and training required for pups?? She'll have to get a nanny and a trainer for the dogs. And if/when Kate decides she's had enough of the dogs, she's going to break the kids hearts by either giving them away or sending them to live in the barn. I hope I'm totally wrong and somehow they dogs and kids thrive.

hannah said...

They got rid of the puppies? My god, those two are evil, who shows a puppy to a child then takes it away? These two are seriously two of the most hateful parents I've ever seen.

CK said...

Maybe they should do a show on the overcrowded shelters and select a few dogs to adopt or just foster.

Katie wouldn't adopt a shelter dog - it's not "new" and how would she ever find two that matched? (Sarcasm off.) Besides, most shelters charge an adoption fee, and most of the ones around here do screen the applicants. I'm not sure a home with 8 small kids and two parents who are gone a lot would qualify.

I don't think that household is stable enough right now to have two pups, and I think fostering shelter dogs would probably be even harder (both as far as the dogs having "issues" of sorts, and with the kids getting attached to the dogs only to see them move on to another home). There's very little consistency, as far as the show protrays, and that's what young dogs (and kids) need.

For a self-proclaimed neat freak with 8 small kids, a shedding herding breed wouldn't be my first choice.

As far as people seeming to be more concerned about the dogs than the kids? I don't think that's totally true. Lots of people, here and elsewhere, are concerned about the kids. There's just not a lot, so far, that we can do about it. Also, the kids can talk, go to school, and will eventually grow up and leave home. The dogs can't speak for themselves and are stuck in that household all day, until and unless J&K get rid of them.

Who Let The Dogs Out? said...

"IF" the puppies are actually gone now, Kon will pull the same ole, "Oh, they never even cared" bit they did during cupcakegate when they said the boys never even missed not getting their cupcake. They'll make it appear the kids didn't want the dogs after all and never even missed them when gone.

Gee...do ya think the kids have become so indifferent because they are used to things just going away? Here today , gone tomorrow?

Fay said...

Remember the episode when Kate would not take the time to clean Joels bottom and asked Cara to,what the heck is she going to do once these puppies start pooping all over the place, next we will see an episode where the kids learn the art of Pooper Scooping, and Kate saying from her throne, this is for them, they dererve it.

I as a mother personaly think pets and children go together. But not this family, not everyone is meant to be a parent to human children or furry children. Because thats what a pet should be.. part of the family.

We had 2 of our 5 sons when we decided to start adding furry family members. We went to the pound and started with cats. then I spent 10 years looking for a dog that would fit in with our family. We found a lab/golden mix at the pound and she is our beauty queen.

I also wanted pugs for me. I spent 15 years looking at the pound for pugs but never saw one. So I researched breeders until I found one that was on the up and up. To adopt a pug or any pure breed from a rep. breeder is a lot like adopting a child. They will conduct backgroud checks and home visits and make you sign a ton of contracts. If I ever wanted to get rid of my pugs I have to give them back to the breeder and not anyone else. Not that I would... ever.

I was so worried that KON would find out that labs goldens and mostly pugs are perfect for young children. Pugs will do anything for their children, even to the point of letting the child hurt them. So you can all guess why that would be a problem in the KON household.

By the way when we got our kittens they would climb our bodies for the fun of it. It really hurt when you were wearing shorts at the time lol. Our swet lab mix as a puppy would chew shoes... even while folks wer wearing them. I paid a small fortune for shoes of our guests. I had gotten our boy pug as a baby and he just loved to nip me. Out of no where I would get bit in the tummy or leg by a puppy smaller than a kitten. He also would chomp down on the sofas to help him jump onto them... so our sofas really look like swiss cheese now lol. Not all of them just the ones in the family room. Thankfully our girl pug was an older puppy and didn't do that but she from some odd reason hates teens. So she barks at strange teens she doesn't know. And we have 3 teen sons so that brings a lot of teens she doesn't know into our home. QFI couldn't handle all the wooo-woooing a pug does when it is mad at teens for entering her home and not giving out belly rubs.

We have had fancy rats, hamsters, lizards, mice, still have cats and dogs. And Miss Keight? I have 5icky boys who I am thrilled to have and clean up after our pets to make sure our 5 sons have the chance to love a pet and get the best love back in return. That means not only feeding, fresh clean water, walking and playing with the pet, but poop scooping, puke cleaning, pee cleaning, cage cleaning, middle of the night er vet bills along with reg vet, pet hotel fees while we were gone also but treating each animal as it is.. a valuable member of our family.

Keight and Jane? What happened to the kitties that we saw before you had children? They looked young enough then to still be a part of your family now. You shouldn't of gotten rid of them then, you wouldn't have started to get used to getting rid of loved ones. Also having furry pets helps the chance of allergies of not happening when you have infants. Not always but does help. You both are just disgusting. You don't have enough love for your entire family (icky boys) and now you will have less instead of more when you get your throw away pets.

boyscoutmomx5 said...

Oh! before I forget Keight. What are your plans for sheltering these dogs? Do you have a safe outdoor shelter with fresh water? You also know that that is only used by the dogs choice for when you are not home, other wise the dogs should have access to a doggy door to get inside when its to hot or cold for them.

We have a dog house, but its just for show it seems. Our dogs prefer to have me act as doorman and have never slept outside in their lives. If they want in our home they are always allowed. Being winter they have spent very little time outside, just to use the yard for piddle breaks, but come spring they will be romping in a safe fenced backyard with kids and parents watching out for everyone.

What will you be doing with your children this spring? Telling them of all the different reasons of why you got rid of their pets? No fence, no watching over to keep things safe and no training... you are such a great mom... NOT!!

I agree with the posters who are saddened that people are outraged more by the treatment of the dogs than human beings.

Think of what getting rid of the dogs will do to the kids. The kids will now believe that if they are not perfect Mommy and Daddy will get rid of us too.

I hope that the rumors are wrong, I am glad that they chose a hearty breed, but I have a feeling that the rumors are true and maybe that will shut the sheeple up once and for all. but no, they will believe the allergy story, as much as they believe that Yawn has a job. shaking my head in disbelief

oh, and I predict another "This house is so much better for the children because now we can get a dog". . .

I'm horrified at the idea that they would break the kids hearts, especially Mady. I'm looking for reasons not to believe the rumor. Honestly I don't see it being true. It would be too much and TLC isn't that stupid. They would have scrapped the puppy episodes and pretended like they never existed if they ended up getting rid of them. There's plenty of time between taping and airing to do that.

I'm allergic to both dogs and cats but the allergy didn't present itself until I was 5 or 6. My mom is also allergic, so it's a genetic thing as 2 out of her 4 kids inherited it. With KON having 8 kids, it's very possible one of them could have inherited it through a grandparent, if KON themselves are not allergic. I think I'm getting carried away, but the allergy excuse is pretty valid.

I have a huge Berner who sheds a great deal and the first year of her life was filled with obedience training, peeing, pooping in the house, breaking out of her crate, anxiety issues she exhibited, vet bills, and time...lots and lots of time. I do not look at puppies the same way after I got my dog. They are a TON of work and they do not take scheduled naps...let's get a grip Kate...why add more to your already "stressful life"? A puppy will not allow you to clean a fridge out for 4 hours and wipe her paws before coming in the house. The shedding is never ending and the "dustilies" on poppy's ornaments pail in comparison to not only 1 but two dogs...good times, smart move on your part Kate. Good luck with that.

Two things:
#1: I'm pretty sure I remember one of the Q & A episodes where Kate talks about the 2 cats she and Jon used to have before the kids. (They even showed home video of them in the living room). Didn't she say in that episode that they had to get rid of the cats when they had Cara & Mady because they didn't have the time for them anymore (or something like that)? Now, how on earth could they think that they'll be able to have the time for 2 puppies with 8 kids? If they couldn't handle pretty much the most self-sufficient pets you can have (cats) with only 2 kids, how will they ever do it now!?! Sooo obviously made-for-tv.

#2: I really hope, though, that they don't get rid of the dogs and that they work out. I mean, the kids need someone in the family to teach them loyalty and show them some true affection and appreciation. The dogs probably will have a better chance of raising 8 well-adjusted kids than KON. At least they'll be patient enough to deal with the pack!

Jon announcement to the Penn State audience about the two dogs seems to be appropriately timed to the airing of the 'Puppies' episode. However, PRIOR to the airing of the 'Puppies' episode, word is out that the puppies no longer reside in the Gosselin home and were placed with a new owner.

IMO, the J & K Gosselin family had already made the quest of picking out and purchasing the puppies. The breeder knows they did and if the puppies did have obedience training, the trainer (and who knows how many others) are equally aware of the fact. It is in the best interest for the sake of 'reality purposes' for J & K to air the 'Puppies' episode and some time later justify the absence of the puppies by claiming a 'relatable' reason such as 'child allergies' as opposed to scrapping the episode as if the puppies never existed.

I have a friend who, on impulse, decided to get a St. Bernard puppy because he'd always wanted one. His children are twins and were 3 years old at the time. The puppy ruined the backyard, ate up the toys, pooped everywhere, knocked everyone down, etc., etc. I recommended an outstanding Puppy First Grade class that I did with my dog and my friend was irritated, once he got to the class, to find out that after class, you had to practice with the dog on your own time. In the winter, the dog slept outside on the ground because he didn't like the dog house and no one wanted him in the house. Long, sad story short----puppy gets shipped off to the animal shelter at the tender age of 6 months. Happy ending----the animal shelter folks called the St. Bernard rescue folks who zipped him off to foster care and on to an appropriate, St. Bernard-saavy home.

Kate, puppies are work! My kids were teenagers when we got our latest dog and I felt like we had brought home an infant!

I recently adopted two abandoned pups (Blue Heeler/Boarder Collie) and they are a ton of work! But even so...they are wonderful pets who need lots of attention and tons of patience on my part. I can't imagine Kate cleaning up after two puppies. I can just see the kids dragging them around by their tails...or worse yet, being locked up in kennels 24/7 so they can contain the mess for Jon and the kids to clean up. The only good thing I can see about them getting a puppy is that Maddy will have someone that will love her unconditionally.

I recall when Kate found a baby in her crib who according to Mady : "she pooped her bed, she pooped her shirt....and oh ya she pooped her back!"

The mother of 8 babies said that this has never ever happened to her before. She acted like she didnt even know how to bathe her own child! I understand bathtime was always Jons job, but excuse me, I have never even had a baby and would be less uncomfortable giving some strangers baby a bath than Kate was giving her own one!

I bring this tid bit up to prepare for the puppy accidents. I have had many animals and I have cleaned up poop that was all over my dogs FUR! It is a nightmare, yes, but cleaning a baby up after a typical accident like that is a hell of a lot easier than throwing a dog in the tub and fighting a sick and scared animal just to clean them up.

I remember Alexis' lil face as the camera zoomed in on it and she had the most adorable smile on it in that tub watching mommy clean up her poopie. I died!

Good luck Kate on those 2 puppies and we will be ready for "Oh Lordy Be!" That dog will not be smiling at you Kate, I hope he bites you!!!

I wonder, assuming that the pups stick around at all, what method she will use to housebreak them. If she uses the paper training method, will she have papers out for them for the next four years like she did with the potties?

I don't think they should get any dog, adult or puppy. They aren't home enough for one thing. They also seem pretty overwhelmed with the kids. A dog takes work, especially at first, and I don't think they are home long enough to even partly housebreak or otherwise train a dog.

I wonder if they will have an episode where they show Kate on her hands and knees scrubbing muddy pawprints off the floor?

So they will always be pen with the excuse of 'needing to know what it feels like to have just one'.

And so they can dress them in identical doggy sweaters that one of Kate's neighbors might sew for them, with the letters "D-O-G" in bold on the front : )

I wonder if the new puppies came from the same litter. Are they two of a batch of sextuplets? Maybe Kate found out that they weren't and it decreased their marketability.

I recall when Kate found a baby in her crib who according to Mady : "she pooped her bed, she pooped her shirt....and oh ya she pooped her back!"
***********
I was going to mention this. She will freak out. One of my husband's coworkers offered him a dachshund puppy and we borrowed it for a couple days to see if we could manage. It was bad timing because we had just brought our preemie home. We did not keep the puppy and I don't want a dog now at all. They are too much work. Our 2 cats are enough. Why does Kate have to take 2 anyway? When you are taking puppies rather than full grown, housebroken dogs, why take 2 at a time when you have no idea what it will be like? Oh yeah, who is Kate to say no when offered anything free. Those people are sick. She can no more manage puppies than she can manage being a decent mom and human being. I can't wait to hear her lame excuse that the kids did not want the dogs anymore when she sends them packing...or they will have someone else care for them (maybe upstairs in the garage with their nanny and staff?) and bring them out on camera and pretend to still take care of them!

If this is a rating ploy then it is disgusting! If it truly is for their children then Way to go...Unfortunately, I think it is the ratings.(hence frige).
These "freebies" cannot be thrown in the basement! They cannot be "yard sale".
I have a load of kids and animals (6). I can tell you the kids are the easiest of the two.
Jon & Kate have to take responsibility for not only what they brought into this world but what they bring into their home!
Dogs are not ornaments that can be thrown away. They are NOT like a Hawaii wedding dress (tie into another TLC show).
Responsibility is NOT in this families vocabulary! Be responsible for the children you created! (YOU are financially and emotionally responsible!)
Unfortunately when you don't pay for it, sweat over it, or have to earn it... you do not care about it!
What is the difference between two puppies and eight kids? Nothing they are both going to be treated by hired help. Both are caged and unless it is a film day....are not let out. They all lucky just to get patted and a bone/food.
Atleast the puppies get love!!!

I believe that this is just "done for the show"

Did J and K really think that they could handle two puppies on top of everything else they have going on.

Kate said in the Soups episdoe no dog.

Jon said he doesnt want a dog he wasnts a pig

Kate is forever exhausted and Jon is always frustrated

Puppies are like babies!! They do require lots of care.

The kids of course would respond to the puppies. Which kids wouldn't

I wondere if they caught on film, mady being told the dogs have to leave.
IF its really becuase a kid is allergic, it would make her resent the tups even more.

This is one show I will definitely not watch and I probably won't watch them again. I don't want to see the excitement of the twins knowing that these dogs were only used to show a kinder, gentler Kate... NOT! There was no way J & K would keep 2 puppies in her nice new home with her OCD. Come on who does TLC think they are fooling? Of course the puppies found a new home. I noticed in the previews that it is only the twins that are excited and the tups just sit there, can someone say staged???? If I remember right w/Beth's dog that some of the tups were afraid of the dog and it was real little. TLC and J & K know that this show is on its last leg and they will exploit the heck out of the kids to keep it on air at least another season. I can't wait for the day this show goes off the air.

I agree most likely the dogs were there for a plot to make a show. It would have been nice if Jon and Kate had explained that to Mady and Cara ahead of time, so they wouldn't get too attached. Probably Kate and TLC decided the twins wouldn't act naturally enough if they were informed. Maybe there'll even be an episode where we see them crying with grief when their beloved pets are taken away. Great one for the May ratings sweeps, huh?

Whatever, I'm happy for those dogs they won't have to live in that zoo. Good names for them would've been Sheeple and Stample.

Im not watching this episode (3 weeks now!) But I honestly would not be surprised if the dogs have been "evicted". Jon and Kate will do anything for the show........"Our show is out life and our life is our show". ......... Those poor dogs will spend more time at a kennel than home, the Gosselin's are constantly away "making memories" and German Shepherds are pretty large to travel with.

I tell him everyday that that is his saving grace ;)

I feel very sorry for those kids that they will have yet another thing dear to them yanked away when it no longer "serves its purpose".

With the Obama girls in the news about their dog allergies, and the news coverage of what are breeds that are non-shedding, wouldn't this have been around the time of the move and the puppy selection? I have a feeling this episode is going to be a nightmare of "Walk in the Woods" proportions...I feel like there's an 'every other episode' trend...Moving In wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. A Walk in the Woods was far worse than I could have imagined. Home Sweet Home had its low points, most definitely, but still went remarkably well compared to the week before and compared to what I was expecting to happen. They're marketing this episode as cute and exciting and fun and oh look, Mady and Cara are back...but I have a feeling it's going to be anything but cute.

It's stupid to get 2 puppies. Puppies are probably more work than babies because babies don't have wild animal insticts and you can at least contain their piddle and poop in a diaper. Jon & Kate can't handle the kids they have...I agree with the poster who said they should get something older and more patient, like a lab. But that would require KON to be smart and practical...

We already know that the two puppies have been returned to the person who donated them to Kon because of "allergies" that a child or children had to them. Yeah, right, more like they weren't made of plastic so Kate couldn't take the fur, the mess.

So the kids have yet another loved one or two ripped from them because of the Kon. Real nice going.

there. Cara actually has her face in her hands.

I feel sorry for these dogs. I have 3 GSD and they require a bit more to their care than just housebreaking. Being highly intelligent, they need mental as well as physical stimulation, or else they find their own amusement, and I can assure you, it won't go over well.

Such a noble and loyal breed deserves better. I myself, am involved in rescue and would never, repeat never place a dog with this dynamic duo. In fact, they should be placed on a "do not adopt" list, IMO.

The breeder cannot be on the up and up either. Most reputable breeders are like rescues--they want to know your circumstances and experience with the dog breed. I'm willing to bet these dogs came from either a backyard breeder or a puppy mill. Frankly, their area of PA is notorious for puppy mills.

I went to TLC and watched the webisode. This is so fake. You just know the dogs aren't staying. Hint, hint,Kate saying Alexis loved the puppies... Alexis stating on camera the dogs are too big for her..... Any 4-1/2 yr. old would be romping with the puppies, I didn't see that in the webisode. Tups, don't touch cuz they ain't staying.
Since I haven't really been watching this season, but Kate is really painfully thin. She looked so natural just 3 short years ago and now she is fake tan, thinner than a rail, and just not happy. Hopefully the pups have found loving homes.

I also don't think they got rid of the dogs (at least not yet) since it was mentioned at the Penn visit by Jon that they had them and that was just a few weeks ago. Unless it happened since then but I doubt it. That would have been nearly two months or longer that they had them, and you would think if there was an allergy issue it would have been noticed far sooner than that.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but the fact that TLC would suggest that the Gosselins get puppies as a ratings ploy is sickening. Anyone who truly believes that Kate -- who hates dirt, mess, and cried when remembering how "simple" her life was without the tups -- would willingly get two puppies has lost their marbles.

What a joke.

I love German Shepherds, so I hate to say this, but sometimes they tend to be "One person dogs." That means, they choose one person in the family who they are extremely close that they protect completely and everyone else they act aloof around. If this is the case and the dogs end up liking one Gosselin over all the others, I could see it becoming just something else for the family to fight about.

When I first saw the commercial for the two shep pups I was actually happy. I thought: what a good idea! The dogs can frolick and protect the children on that large property. There are two, so they'll have each other and it would be a great thing to let the twins be responsible for them. But alas there are rumors of the dogs already being gone. I feel bad for Mady, who I think will be most affected by that.

You know, I never once worried for the welfare of the dogs. Here's the thing about Kate - she's full of crap. She complains because she likes to complain and she's become very spoiled from the influx of money but I do think Kate knows how to take care of her children and her household. She just doesn't want anybody believing she can because then they won't help her do it.

My standard response to people who say the kids aren't "working" is this:

If a kid has to be in a certain place, on a certain day, at a certain time doing a certain thing and their presence (or the presence of most or all of the kids) results in their family earning money that the family lives on....then, yeah they are working.

My son, on the other hand, can play legos in his room all day and our lives are not any more financially fortunate/unfortunate as a result.

In other words, our livelihoods aren't dictated by our son's actions or inactions.

Parents work, so that kids don't have to. At least, that's what the philosophy most good parents live by.

Hey. I was in rescue too and I don't think I'd agree with the "do not adopt." for this family. On a property that large and a family that large, there would be no shortage of mental stimulation for the dogs. Both adults are stay at home. If they successfully feed 8 kids, it's a good gamble that the dogs will be fed as well. Adopting out (and we had a VERY strict group) the only concern we'd have with the G's is the age of the tups. They would have to learn to be gentle and respectful of the dogs. I for one do not object to dogs and small kids, per se. What I look at is the parents. If the parents show that they are in control of all situations involving the beings they have in their charge (two AND four legged) then they could be accepted. Again, I believe that much of what we see is Kate playing to an audience - that audience being the camera people and producers who are ever present in her household. I think when they are alone that she is a VERY capable (though admittedly b*tchy) person.

Guys, give me a break about the "they must be soooooo horrible to these dogs!" because a dog ended up at the Vet's office.

Dogs do stupid things, whether we are watching them or not. Case in point: My much loved, but entirely stupid dog ate the kids playdoh off the kitchen table. Bag and all. And ended up at the vet's with a bad tummy ache. It doesn't make me a bad owner.

Before anyone comes at me with a pitchfork, I'm no fan of this show. The sooner it goes off the air, the better IMO. But I think the mob mentality about some of these situations is a bit much--when none of us have seen the episode in question, and none of us know what the fate of these dogs are. (And for the record, I agree wholeheartedly that this family should absolutely NOT be allowed to have pets. I felt a punch in the gut when I heard about this whole puppy thing.)

After reading all of these dog stories and hearing how much work they are, I think I will just stick with cats! We have three right now, and I always toyed with the idea of getting a dog when all three cats were gone. But it sounds like too much work to me, plus I can't just leave the house for the day like I can with cats. Anyway, I'm finding this thread very useful.

And if you listen to the promo playing for the next episode, right around the time when the little girls says "she (the dog) just peed!", you can also hear Kate saying "what were we thinking?" So I have no problem believing that the dogs are already gone, although I hope that isn't true. Can you imagine being Mady, being SO attached to your new pets, and then having mom take those pets away? That would be terrible.

Ah yes, the pleasures of dog ownership. My scruffy shelter rescue (cost a $35 adoption fee) dug in my purse and consumed an entire pack of sugar free gum. Turns out sugar free gum is deadly so they had me put him in the emergency vet for 2 nights on a water drip and liver testing. The good news is that the emitic they gave him saved his life because he hadn't yet digested the gum. The better news is that he is just fine. The sad sad news is that this little excursion ran me to the tune of $1200. I love him. I don't have any choice at this point.

I have had dogs since I was 12. We just lost one of our Golden Retrievers last summer (from cancer), but we still have one GR and a cat. Animals can bring much joy and love into a house--but, you have to have the time to devote to them . If J&K are gone half of the time--whether together or separately--how much time and energy will they be able to give two little puppies? Puppies are like babies--without diapers and with needle-like puppy teeth. They need consistency to be trained. House training is time-consuming--you have to be home to take the pups outside--sometimes every hour! There WILL be accidents, period. Chewing will occur--it needs to be directed towards something "safe." Also, dogs sometimes vomit, get fleas and ticks (Lyme disease is present in our area of PA). Our one Golden had such a sensitive stomach in the beginning that we went through various diets until we found one that was good. In short, it's work having a puppy. The Gosselins may or may not still have the pups, but, IMO, getting any kind of puppy for this particular family was a bad idea.
PS: Snowey winter--please read Paul Peterson's article on J&K (link on the sidebar for A Minor Consideration). It explains why many of us feel that the Gosselin children are, in fact, working.

I have spent more on vet bills this past year than on dr's bills. And I have yet to find a coupon for a vet visit. But, remember if you have a pet you have an obligation to provide proper care and nutrition for your pet. Including balanced meals, all necessary shots, check-ups, dental cleanings, flea and tick treatments, exercise, grooming and most important all the love you can provide. But, it is so worth it. Its sad the little G's won't get to experience what so many of us have and would not give up for a million bucks.

I have a friend who is similar to Kate in that her house always has to be spotless. The kids aren't allowed to get messy. Her husband and kids always wanted a dog and she always said NO NO NO. But she finally gave in a got a tiny puppy for them because it was "just so cute". I remember warning her it would be a lot of work. Well, they didn't devote the time to it, or do the work needed. The puppy got hurt twice in their care (each time, a family member accidentally stepped on it and broke a bone), and after the second time, they gave it away. The kids were heartbroken but their mom decided it was just too much hassle, not realizing how attached the kids had already become.

We have three cats and I have some friend who are amazed that we treat them so well. How am I supposed to treat them? They are members of the family to us, so OF COURSE we treat them well. We take care of them and give them love and respect. We taught the babies from day one how to be gentle, and to this day, I have three of the most gentle cat-loving kids you could ever hope to meet.

I don't know what my point was of rambling. Probably my point is that Kate never should have agreed to get dogs in the first place.

I would not put it past TLC to make an episode about the some of the children crying when the dogs are taken away. In my opinion, TLC loves this type of thing and it sometimes seems like Kate takes pleasure in seeing her kids cry. (Let's think about Colin and the gum episode. It didn't appear that she was effected at all by his sad cry) I can see it now, Mady disappointed, crying and desperately trying to convince Kate to let the dogs stay. It seems like K+J enjoy adding something into the family and then it seems like they enjoy taking it away. Imagine it that big house was taken away from Kate, how would she feel? Someone needs to take those kids feeling into consideration.

Product placement is the wave of the future? Well, I'll be darned....and here I thought that when soap operas were begun in the 50's on television and in the 30's on radio that THEY invented product placement?

We are pretty aware of what is going on and why. Just because some of us don't agree with it that doesn't mean we don't understand it. Sponsors are targeting this demographic of Moms and females 18-45. Pretty basic. But sponsorship is akin to looking into a crystal ball sometimes. Aligning one's business with a show that takes a controversial turn can put a sponsor in hot water even if all research and planning led them to believe otherwise.

I also work in an industry that is heavily involved in and around advertising too, but I think most people understand the core principle of sponsorship and product placement regardless of their affiliation with the industry.

Jen K said...

Tracy T, I thought that too. :)

There is a certain "cadence" to the way he writes and he tends to use strange phrases like, "utopian bubble".

"Wave of the future" would certainly fit because it's so, "I guess I have to teach you idiots this, but in the process I will sound like I just invented the concept" like when he revolutionized the packing and moving industry by writing on the box which room in the NEW HOUSE it goes into as though no one in history has ever done that. :)

Or the famous, "Just a reminder that nothing that you read on the Internet is true unless it is approved by us" :) Classic!

Oddly enough my dad can't stand Kate and gets angry when he sees her on the TV.

Thank you for explaining how many of us feel, Jen K. I also wanted to explain to Snowey Winter that while I don't work in advertising, I totally "get" product placement. I think most of us do. It is not rocket science. Product placement helps pay the salary for the Gosselin kids. Yes, the kids are working and are denied a normal childhood with patient, nurturing, loving parents. I realize that we don't see all of their home life but from the little taste we are given, you can see that these children's parents are not doing a good job of parenting. I feel for those kids...you can see it in their behavior that Jon and Kate are failing them.

timetogokon said...

How in the world do you know whether or not they are still friends? You do realize that the Gosselins' life consists of more than the 30 minutes per week that is spliced together for TV, right?

Hmmmmmmmmmm, Kate is promoting a book that she didn't write and has NEVER given credit to the real author, Beth ? Sounds like a great friendship to me.

And please don't get me started on the lame "it's all editing" excuse.

"It's A Good Thing"... I totally agree with you! What are these children learning? I have a background in Child Development and the one thing we were taught is that "children are a product of their environment!" It's totally true. My husband and I have a wonderful, respectful relationship and our two boys are respectful and polite as well! Parents are the biggest teachers for their children! Children learn what they see....and I feel so badly for these poor (obviously not in a monetary sense)Gosselin children! And by watching the episodes you can see how the children treat each other....it's definitely a "learned" thing!

"Working breeds" are just dog breeds that were originally bred for tasks like guarding, herding etc. They're called that because due to the breeding and the breed's nature they continue to exhibit traits indicative of that breed even if not required to do so.

We have a Collie/German Shep/Rott and he definitely has the "herding" instincts. When he's around groups of people, including kids (like at the park) he tends to encircle them a little at a time like he's trying to get them all in one space. He does the same thing with toys in the house.

Snowey winter,

Perhaps this is not the right site for you. Or Maybe you should read up on some of their interviews the way most people on this site have. In his Utah interview Jon said they have two people who come to help with the children four to six hours a day. During another interview he stated they have an Asian nanny. The two of them frequently get their "stories" confused, but we are smart enough to read between the lines.

Also, of course all marriages have their moments; however, to treat ones spouse with such blatant disrespect in front of the children (and the world)on a regular basis is not healthy and a recipe for disaster. There is clearly no love in that marriage and I am concerned about people who agree with the way they treat each other. I have never nor will I ever go out of my way to make my husband look like a fool the way Kate does, and we've been married 28 years.

Also, I do not believe Beth is in the picture anymore just as Aunt Jodie is no longer in the picture (or Kate's parents, etc., etc.) Again, I read an interview in which Beth stated that she was the one who actually wrote the book and that Jon and Kate lived it. When I see Beth back on the show or hear Kate explain her absence, I'll change my opinion.

Yes, I understand advertising. What I strongly object to are these two freeloaders going to churches charging exorbitant fees during these economic times while they are being given freebies left and right regardless if it's advertising or not. I also object to the exploitation of their children.

Lastly, getting the dogs will be a disaster.

These are my opinions and while I respect your opinions, I find your attitude just a tad condescending. Now, back to discussions about the dogs which I am enjoying!

Jen K said...

Agreed. I've never seen Kate in an interview for the book or when she's plugging it even mention Beth. Once when it was mentioned on GMA or something I think someone said, "and written with Beth Carson" and all Kate said was, "yep" and looked down a bit. That was a perfect opportunity to say, "Oh and she did a fabulous job helping me with the book and helping tell our story" or something to that effect.

There doesn't seem to be an overwhelming amount of gratitude from either Kate or Jon for much. They may say something along those lines from time to time, but if they do it sounds like they are doing it through gritted teeth or something like it kills them. Especially Kate.

After seeing the video, I hope for Mady's sake that J&K didn't just get rid of the dogs (if they no longer have them.) You can tell she absolutely *loved* those dogs from the get-go, and lord knows if they were taken away, she'd lose a lot of that happiness that we don't see very often in her.

And seriously, the way the names were decided/announced was a guaranteed meltdown. Could have been handled much better.

"Durable" dogs? Are you kidding me? And why did they have to get PUPPIES? To increase the cute factor on the show now that the tups are older and brattier? How about a nice, young adult mutt from the shelter?

Oh yeah, I wouldn't wish a home like that on the shelter dogs.

Kate, you are such a bitch.

Can't you let your kids to enjoy anything. How bad did I feel that:

1) You picked the breed
2) You picked the actual dogs
3) You couldn't even let them
name the damn dogs.

Wow, watching you I can really say what a wonderful life I gave my children. My kids had every pet they wanted, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and (yuck) a snake.

Did I enjoy cleaning up after each pet? No.

Am I sorry about any of them?
Well, OK, the snake, especially
around feeding time. BUT, being a parent is about THEM, not YOU.
A lesson Kate has yet to learn.

I think they already have a trainer lined up, ready and waiting to flash the name of his company for 15 mins of fame. That or Jon is going to be responsible for all the dog training, since Kate is an indoor girl. I can just see the scene now...one of the puppies escapes to the woods and Kate is yelling at Jon for not noticing and sends him out in the bitter cold to find him while she watches from the window, more angry that Jon didn't notice than the welfare of the poor creature...or the puppy.

My dog wasn't completely trustworthy until about 6 months and that was with close supervision. Firefly said...

I'm watching the episode right now. Kate certainly has an attitude and thinks she's a fashionista--showing up at the puppies' breeder in heels, all black, and those designer sunglasses. And the way she was sitting on the interview couch talking about how jeff the breeder was "blah blah-ing" about the puppies a few months before they got them and how she "wanted him to stop talking because she never would call him."

I can totally see the set-up coming to get rid of the puppies. Kate is saying how they are nipping and biting and "need training"--she'll probably end up saying they were untrainable, thus they have to get rid of them.

And her comment about how her paying for the puppies goes towards cancer research? We all know TLC provided the money for the puppies--after all, they are a business expense.

I'm just thoroughly tired of seeing the kids being steamrolled, especially poor Mady. What harm is there in having the kids name the puppies? Come on, let them have one shred of joy! But no, Kate must control everything.

Grace said...

I find this episode appalling. Jon and Kate were completely unprepared for these puppies. Dogs are a huge commitment, you can't just grab a puppy and "wing it." They keep saying the know nothing about dogs, but oh Kate read a little about the breed. That makes everything better, doesn't it? They didn't even have kennels to bring them home it, they used a box! Talk about unsafe.

Ok am I the only one feeling for poor Aaden? He said he's afraid of them and now the poor kid is gonna realize that these will be in his house? Granted more outside then inside but speaking as a kid who grew up TERRIFIED of dogs thanks to not having any pets and having two friends get attacked by dogs, my heart just went out to him. I'm an adult and I still get anxiety when around dogs, especially large ones. I would not have been happy out at that ranch or whatever with all those grown German Sheperds. For pete's sake the one that was playing around Aaden was twice his size.

And count me in on what the hell is kate's problem in not even letting the kids name the dogs. She acted like such a beyotch (of course) once she got the dogs home yet it's all about what she wants to name the dogs. Like WTH?? Oh and by the way, Kate and Jon can fake "laugh" it up with each other but their body language is still speaking volumes. Jon's leg crossed away and kate huggin the other side of the couch. No way do those two still share a bed.

Kudos kate to your retort of "you're not welcome" after mady very sweetly led all the kids to thank you for the puppies. God talk about a jerk. I also felt for mady when she said when picking them out she wanted to get one that would love her..God. Talk about red flags.

Exhausted said...

It's ridiculous to blame Mady for her attitude. She is the loudest protestor against the unjust treatment these kids receive, and good for her. They set these kids up to be upset all the time by being unreasonable and spiteful. Why in the heck wouldn't you let your lovely children name the dogs? A good parent or teacher knows how to do things efficiently, even assert his/her own opinion, and let the kids think it was their idea. Why wouldn't you let them have a say in picking out the dogs? Again, even if you as a parent get the one that you think is best but get the kids to "pick" that same one. Kate is a dictator, and she is such a child that she needs to win every game and always be first. Get a life, Kate. You are supposed to let your kids have the spotlight. Did anyone else notice that Jon had this blank look on his face when Kate was talking about how the cost of the dogs would go to a charity.

What a shame that Kate didn't say, "Oh, the puppies already have names and they know their names. Would you like it if someone came along and changed your name that you already have?"

In a 1.3 million dollar house, why is Kate worried about the added expense of 2 dogs?

And are they ever looking out for these poor kids? Poor Aaden must have had a heart attack when that huge German Shepherd came running toward him? I grew up with German Shepherds and think they are wonderful, intelligent, and gentle dogs, but four-year-olds are afraid of so many things. My four-year-old would probably not let me put her down at that dog breeder because it's intimidating when an animal is at eye level with you. You would think parents would keep all their kids close by--again, not that the dogs are dangerous but because kids might feel uneasy when they haven't been around them before.

Did you see the camera guy helping Alexis (I think?) on the jungle gym/slide? What do you bet that Jon and Kate would be the first ones to blame the camera crew if the kids got hurt in any way while, meanwhile, Mommy and Daddy are neglecting them to be celebrities.

Yeah, Kate flipped about the "nasty" poop but that was probably just overwhelming frustration, it was late, they'd been out all day. It happens.

Anyway, all in all, I was happy to see a nice episode devoid of tension for the most part.

Priceless! :) She is such an attention hog. Naming our family dog as a kid is a memory that my sisters and I still talk about today. We talk about the funny names that were suggested, how she got her name.

For someone who seems to care about memories so much, she sure is good at manufacturing them for everyone else.

As someone mentioned earlier...these are supposedly the same kids who get a vote on whether to continue with a tv show for crying out loud, yet they have no input on the name of a dog? Sure Kate...

BTW, didn't watch, won't watch...so thanks everyone for the recaps.

I am running this past for comments:
We are a young married couple with 8 children. We just bought a 1.5 million dollar house (in today's really bad economy) without having sold our previous home. We have no real jobs to speak of, we have 8 children to clothe, feed, educate, etc., for at least the next 18-20 years and we just added to our financial burden by buying not one but 2 full breed ($$) dogs that we also have to feed, vaccinate, etc. Does any of this make sense to anybody? Are these people living in a parallel universe, a bizarro world? WHO can identify with them? Week after week it is nothing but spend, spend, spend. Why not have an episode where both parents and kids sit home and NOT spend excessively or not have expensive appliances show up on their doorsteps. I am livid at the irresponsible attitude of TLC to continue to throw money at these people so they can continue to live excessively.

Agreed. Kate was just like one of the kids, except her voice overruled everyone else's. She not only had to rub it in that the names were picked, and they didn't care about the kids being upset, but she kept doing things throughout the episode. I agree that they, as parents, should probably have the final say on which pups they took, since they have to kind of look into the future and what might be, the kids' interactions, etc. But it just felt like she kept imposing her wants/needs against the children and not really caring.

Hence, I applaud the kids for calling our mommy's jerk attitude at the end:

"Mommy's mean!!"
haha, and I loved that they all chanted it out on Mady's signal.

(repeated for emphasis)
"Mommy's mean!!"

I for one can fault them for being so selfish and stupid and I bet Michelle Duggar would also. You let the kids either vote (if you really care give the kids four names) or they nominate some names and a parent picks from the kids' choices. Very simple and easy.

Kate can take the joy out of anything.

You know those public service type news stories that come out around Easter, Valentine's Day and Christmas saying that giving a pet as a gift is a bad idea, and how you have to plan, research, and prepare for a pet, not just buy one on a whim? Well J&K just undid all that by bringing 2 dogs into a house when both profess not to know anything about pets. (I do wonder if Jon is fibbing a bit. He’s talked in the past about wanting a big dog. You’d think they would have had enough time to do some research. Maybe this is just bravado or drama to create the situation where they bring 2 dogs home and are clueless. Great for TLC but bad for the dogs.)

On a different note, do you notice how nice/friendly Kate is to other men? She's all sweet and laughing w/ the former state trouper. During the moving (into the big house) episode, at one point, she encounters someone in a stairwell or hall (and you don't see who she's talking to). She's all nice and civil, and then you see it's one of the movers. When I watched this clip, I was struck with, "Wow, she's actually being kind and cordial to Jon." Then, the camera pans and you see it's a moving guy. It happens twice where she's all kind (meaning she's kind in the way that most of us treat others, i.e., speaking to others without contempt). It's 180 degrees from how she treats Jon. Jon has his faults but he is far, far less mean to her than she is to him.

My thoughts on this episode:
- I felt bad for the kids since
they didn't even get to name
the puppies!
- I thought Mady was annoying in
this episode with her tantrums
- I noticed how kate wouldn't even
let the kids touch the dogs, she
kept on hogging one of the
puppies- it was funny when the
dog tried to lick her face and
Kate said "I am not ready for
that yet"!
- Aaden was so cute... I liked
how he was asking the camara
guy if the dog cage was locked!
- kate pulling out her cheque book
in order to "purchase" the dogs
-so fake!
- I am not sure but in the end, I
believe the kids made a comment
on how they liked daddy better
than mommy!
Also did anyone notice the furniture they had in the kitchen area- couches, tables etc. I don't think the dogs will last very long, they will probably give them away!

It would have made sense to bend to their level (heels and all)
