On this episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8: Kate’s hair manages to look even more skunk-like. She decides to prove she learned a new word this week—schlop—and endeavors to use it at least once in every sentence.

Today, Jon and Kate are getting their much-anticipated Whirlpool washers and dryers. Jon reminds us that they just recently moved into their new house and tells us yet again that they’re really excited, but have a lot of work to do. This is repeated theme and it seems like it is very important to KON that their viewers understand: they are very excited about this new house, but they have a lot of work to do with it. It seems to me like it’s the deliverymen doing all the work, but I guess supervising the installation could be really hard too.

Kate begins telling us about how her laundry is so piled up because she hasn’t had the time to have her new washers and dryers delivered yet. She tells us she does three loads of laundry a day and throws in a long endorsement for Whirlpool. Too busy to have them delivered, but plenty of time to chat up a sponsor. Then she yells at a contractor for wearing shoes in her house.

I notice that her hair looks particularly skunk-like from the back.

We see a few cute shots of the kids playing outside, while Kate gets a new dishwasher—also Whirlpool—that she describes as “nice and purty.” All of her new appliances are stainless steel. Including the new fridge. Yes, she has a new fridge. After she cleaned out the old one for four hours, she turned around and bought a new one anyway.

Jab at Jon number one: “You don’t cook, Jon, you heat.” Hmm, apparently Kate doesn’t remember his Korean dinner. Now we get to hear about how much Jon loves Whirlpool, too—he likes the popcorn feature on the microwave.

Kate tells us that her washers and dryers make laundry a joy. Did she not own one back when Collin got gum in his bear, and she gave us that speech about how very, very long and arduous laundry for the Gosselins is? What I want to know is who does all the folding now—surely not Kate?

To be honest, I’m not surprised when a Whirlpool commercial comes on after Collin’s cute “coming up next.” As if the not-so-subtle product placement and Kate’s mini-infomercial weren’t enough, now we get to hear how great Whirlpool is for another thirty seconds. It’s gotten to the point where when I see a commercial during Jon & Kate + 8, I wonder when we’re going to get to see one of the Gosselin children using the product.

Now Jon and Kate are going to pick out tiles. “We were able to go together, which is rare,” Jon tell us. Unfortunately, they can’t agree on a tile together because Kate is in love with gray, but Jon knows what they really need is brown. (Kate should really tell TLC to not show so many shots of her from behind. Her hair is simply hideous. Also, I sincerely hope that is fake fur she is flaunting).

We now get dangerously close to an infamous, full-fledged interview argument. Apparently Kate is angry because “most men” would just let their wife make decorating decisions. She does admit that she used to make horrible decisions but insists she has gotten better. She informs us that Jon “thinks he can decorate but he’s a man and it’s creepy.” Jon says he won’t comment on that because it will just start an argument. What I think is creepy is that Kate feels comfortable saying things like that as a mother of three boys. One might think that she especially would try to step outside of gender stereotypes, but I guess not.

In the end, after they lugged home all the samples, Jon was right. In true Kate fashion, however, she still refuses to admit she was wrong. When Jon announces that it was his choice that worked, Kate immediately turns sour.

“Are you really going to be that immature and sit here with your arms folded and act like a ding-dong?”

A ding-dong? I’ve got to say, for someone who makes fun of her husband’s vocabulary on such a frequent basis, Kate should really think more carefully about what words she uses.

Next, they’re going to let their kids paint the basement. They have their contractor, Bart, painting anyway, so it’s a great chance to let the kids paint on the walls. Kate manages to get in another snipe at the old owners, this time insulting the color of the basement walls. At least she admits she stole the idea of letting kids paint the walls from an old friend, and the kids do seem like they’re having fun. They’re all lined up in oversized T-shirts with their little rollers, dutifully covering the walls with blue.

Kate seems to have a new favorite word: schlop. She uses it, by my count, three times, and “schmash” once.

Since Kate hasn’t gotten to use the hand motion she reserves for describing the “yucky boys” yet, she lets us know that Aaden, “of course,” was all *insert hand motion here*. This time Jon joins in on the hand-waving as well. However, seconds later, we hear that it wasn’t messy or anything.

Kate herself gets some of the blue paint on the trim she’s been telling her kids to be careful of, and makes a very interesting screech and an extremely unflattering facial expression. Yet again she refuses to take responsibility, telling us that “it just did it all on its own!”

Based on all the kids telling Kate when they get a drop of paint on their hand, I assume TLC just cut out Kate’s all-too-familiar toxicity speech. If I remember correctly from their Outer Banks painting day, she probably told them something along the lines of if they ate the paint, they would die. Or they would get lost and not have a Mommy.

Once they’re all clean from the painting fun, the kids move on to another house-related project. This time they’re coloring in pictures of houses. There’s a cute moment with Alexis saying she can be pretty and paint too, and she informs us that she likes braids and clips. Collin tells Jon that his arms hurt when he draws. Jon scoffs and says unsympathetically that he’s never heard of anyone’s arms hurting from drawing. Maybe Collin’s arms were sore from all that painting? Hmm, just a thought. Jon doesn’t pay any more attention to him though.

Hannah tells Aaden that his house doesn’t look pretty and asks for Jon’s opinion. For a minute I’m scared Jon is going to seize the opportunity to make fun of his boys, but he surprises me and says that Aaden’s house is beautiful.

Kate says it’s nice that the kids get to feel like they’re part of the house. Apparently, the kids haven’t yet been told that it was the money they earned that bought it, so they need to paint the walls to feel like it’s theirs.

And, just in case you were worried we made it through an entire episode without Kate seriously berating Jon, we get to see a world-class Kate Fit at the very end. Jon does the unthinkable—he interrupts her!!—and here comes the storm.

“Thanks for interrupting me, I love when you do that,” Kate says, glaring at Jon. She restates what she has already told us about it being good for the kids to feel like they are part of the house, and then she turns back to Jon, who, at this point, is turned away from her and grimacing. “Now would you like to speak?” But she doesn’t give him a chance and just plows right on. “It’s so irritating that you talk over top of me. Still! How long have we done these interviews? It’s like you would learn by now. Ughh.”

But the episode doesn’t end on that ugly note—instead it ends on a really cute clip of Joel and Collin talking about being painters when they grow up.

But never fear. Next week on Jon and Kate + 8, even more defenseless creatures are added to the Gosselin brood in the form of two puppies. I sure hope they're girl puppies.

and the word of the day... "methodical".

If she loved the old washer and dryer so freaking much, why the hell did they leave them in the old house?

The handyman showed more affection towards the kids than their own parents.

Jon- nearly all microwaves have a popcorn button, you moron. Not just the expensive, fancy-pants, top of the line model that was given to you.

As the 6 of us cram ourselves into this puny 900 square foot house, I begin to feel immeasurable disdain for this family. Damn right I am jealous. It just sucks that 2 unemployed fartknockers can have so much, get donations from everyone yet people like me and my husband have hardly anything and we have to bust our butts for that. I am done with this bull. THe seething hate I have for Kon is eating me up. It's not worth it.

Wow! I couldn't/didn't want to watch...at this point she makes me nauseous.

With this recap, now I know I have been rewarded with not watching. Nice job on the recap.

When, OH WHEN is this show going off the air.

And two puppies? Our family saw that commercial during the Roloffs show and I swear we all gasped at the thought of it.

Are they kidding? I two wonderful families are set up to adopt a few pure bred, ill behaved, non house trained pups in the future.

Kate yelled at the delivery man for wearing shoes? What is this woman going to do when the PUPPIES piddle on the floor?

The horribly horribleness of this situation makes me want to cancel cable, not simply boycott TLC.

This episode just goes to show you what an awful, nasty woman Kate is. Nothing is good enough for her and she's never happy with anything. Shame on Whirpool for giving them more freebies! They don't deserve them!

Jon reminded me of a little ol lady bug with his red shirt on when he crouched in the cornor of the loveseat the same way that a child does when they have been naughty. I could not stand it if my husband acted like a girlie girl.

You are dead on, Jon is such a moron!

The kids are 4 1/2. Will they ever be allowed to sit in a normal chair at the kitchen table? High chairs at their age is fargin ridiculous.

Eh, she probably left the old washers because it's another incentive for potential buyers. If it were me, I'd prefer a place that had nicer appliances already vs. buying my own.

I get the feeling the appliances weren't comped, even though half the episode was an ad for Whirlpool -- they tend to make it a point to mention gifts, usually in a very euphemistic way, but it's mentioned nonetheless. This just seemed like an extended advertising opportunity, thus the Whirlpool ad during the commercial break. Or at least I'd hope with all their newfound money they can afford to purchase their own appliances!

Can someone tell me why Kate looks so annoyed recently during the interview portion of the show?
She really looks mean and treats Jon worse than ever.
Also, if it is supposed to be a reality show - will we ever get to
hear J or K tell the kids that they love them? Or help Cara and Mady with their homework? How about reading stories to the little kids? I guess none of those things are their reality.
The nasty K episodes are getting really boring. It would be nice to see some love and positive reinforcement for the kids at least once in awhile.

I am not a fan of Kate's, but I have to clear something up. Kate did NOT yell at the handyman/deliveryman for wearing shoes in the house. She was yelling at the kids, and the guy mistakenly thought she was yelling at him, so he took his shoes off, too. She made it clear to him that she was yelling at the kids and not him.

Actually, I think they were. Did you see the way the camera made a point to focus in on the Whirlpool name and logo? And as other people have mentioned, she kept making a point to say the name Whirlpool.

Yeah I realize that =) I just theorized that they could also have purchased their own appliances and still have an advertising relationship with the company without getting everything for free. But that could just be my naive thinking? Eh, whatever.

That stupid popcorn button thing...news flash smarty pants Jon, most microwaves have it and have had it for at least 10 years.

I swear its the new version of "Beverly Hillbillies" every time I see this show. The Clampets have arrived, they have a POPCORN BUTTON!

CK said...

What's the purpose of having 2 washer/dryer sets? I know she goes on and ON about how much laundry she does, but really - how often are you going to have to do 2 loads of laundry at the same time, instead of waiting 30 minutes to start the second load?

Then she says "oooh, it's stainless!" like she wasn't the one who picked them out. And stainless shows fingerprints like crazy - is de-fingerprinting the fridge her new version of mopping the floor 3x a day?

The Popcorn Button discussion just confirmed that these two are not rocket scientists. My mother's ancient microwave (seriously, 1 generation up from having a dial) had a freaking Popcorn button.

The painting was such a set-up. Not taping off the trim is just too obvious. Her scream when she smudged the trim was too much, not to mention wiping a tiny drip of paint off the dropcloth. Sheesh.

The children were barefoot when Kate yelled about no shoes in her house. When the poor guy reacted the way he did, she then said she was talking to her kids. If you notice when he is doing something on the kitchen floor, he wasn't wearing his shoes.

If she is worried about her floors, I wonder how puppy nails are going to mark up her floors.

I just figured out where Kate is getting her idea for her hair. I was looking at short hairstyles, and lo and behold, Victoria Beckham's pictures kept coming up. Google it, and you'll see what I mean. It looks just like Kate's wonky hair!! She's trying to be Posh Spice!!

Actually, the kid closest to her in the hall, maybe it was Joel, did still have his crocs on. I'm increasingly disheartened by her bad attitude, but in this case she just overreacted to her own kids, as usual. She wasn't screaming at the handyman.

My prediction is once those puppies have peed once (preview) they wlll be in those kennels (shown) and that will be the end of them.

You will not see those dogs six months or a year from now, unless they pass them when they walk past the steel kennels.

The episodes lately just show the building of a volcano...soon there is going to be an eruption and watch out, it is going to be big.
Enough with the freebies that this family gets. I am tired of it all.
This is one reality show that has gone spinning out of control, and I honestly find it pathetic. I would really like to see the accomplishments of the kids rather than the accomplishments of the KONS and the freebies they have sucked out of another sponsor.
It looks like Kate is tired of the reality show, her body language and rudeness speaks a thousand words....

Barbara said...

I didn't make it past the interview portion of the show. Again, the body language on the couch was sickening and I just turned it off. Plus the new appliance commercial w/Kate was nauseating to watch. When I read about steel kennels, my worst fears regarding the puppies might be realized. These are not going to be family dogs but outside guard dogs. Why else would Kate agree to 2 large breed of dogs. They will certainly not be house dogs. I agree, TLC will show the kids interacting with them for a couple of shows and then they will never be seen again. I think Cara and Mady don't want to be filmed anymore. The show needs to get back to showing the kids more and not J&K. If you cannot hide being nasty to one another anymore then it is time to hang it up. Once the tups go to kindergarten... it is so long show.

Lisa said...

With all the product placement that we see on that show, did they really need to blur out the phone number for poor Mr. Trim, their longtime friend and contractor? I guess he still has the audacity to charge them for the work he does!

Ms.Peach said...

Thanks for the recap. I have quit watching the show. My husband hated Kate from Day 1. I should have listened to him, but the kids were so cute. It's not about the kids anymore. Hopefully Season 5 will be the end.

Duckman said...

Those Whirlpool appliances may be freebies, but they're a downgrade from what they used to have at the old house. If I remember correctly, the old house had Electrolux washers and dryers.

Outside of the product placement aspect, outfitting the house with Whirlpool appliances may be an attempt at relatability. I'm assuming they're hoping not enough people have noticed (as others already have) that the fridge is a Viking.

If you can spring for a Viking fridge (chances are KON's is probably a freebie), you're probably not going to complement it with appliances you can get at Costco. Usually, anybody who can spring for a Viking is probably also springing for higher-end names like Bosch and Thermador when it comes to the other appliances.

Come to think of it, if Kate really did pick out all this Whirlpool stuff, why isn't the fridge a Whirlpool, too? They claimed to be have been at the new house just a few days. It shouldn't be too hard to trade out the Viking for an equivalent Whirlpool. It's not like they have to do any of the heavy lifting.

---------------------

LOL! I actually think she might have stolen it from the group TLC. The one girl (T-Boz) wore her hair very similar to that. But being that Kate is now rail thin she may be aiming for the Posh angle!

And about the washer/dryers, just a quick question. Does anyone out there have anything from Electrolux? I hear they have a pair that washes and dries a load of clothes in 36 minutes, my dream come true if it it's for real lol.

And late last night as I was flipping thru the channels before bed, I saw "A Jon & Kate Classic" and it was like a montage commercial of the kids 'bodily fluids'. So completely disgusting, but it was an ad placement and now I can't rmemeber the brand it was for, for the life of me, to boycott them. I was so mad about it too, because it was like "there goes another one, eff you Kate!"

Can Kate please stop downing the former owners already?!? First the fridge being nasty, now she says the dishwasher was not cleaning the dishes well enough and the color they were painting over was a horrible brown color. I feel so sorry for the former owners. As for them picking out tile, why? Replacing the wood floors with tile? Colder (unless they are putting in heating under the tile) and much harder for little ones to fall on. Nothing is good enough for this woman or Jon as he is going along with it. She is trying to reason with the viewers as to why they are doing all this and it just makes them look more ridiculous.

Great recap!! they are always better than the real episodes.

Can i just say, when the kids are painting, where is the masking/painters tape on the trim? Most people i know, and i would think a professional Mr.TRim, would put tape so your trim doesnt get ruined. Also, who the hell does trim before painting the walls. They said the trim was painted a couple days before they painted. Also, they are doing this with NO SOCKS on again.

Kate still looked like this whole thing is a bother. Also, it sounded like someone else interviewing them, it didnt sound like Jens voice when asked "how many loads of laundry do you do, Kate?"

Here are a couple things I noticed.
Jon must have missed more than just November at the gym because when he was done "crossing his arms and acting like a ding-dong" he had a pretty big ponch hanging over his waistband.
When they went to the flooring store, they drove the Sprinter????? Just the two of them. Give me a break. Like they don't have another vehicle. Also loved how Jon had his baseball cap turned around backwards.--NOT. Guess thats how he rolls.
This is what, about the third episode that Mady & Cari are no where to be found. And no mention as to why.
As usual, Kate was a complete shrew at every turn.

Poor training will come out faster in a dog than in a child. Hopefully it won't come out and bite you in the butt, literally.

If you wany my humble opinion, I think that Kate's increased annoyance during recent shows has to do with the fact that she NEEDS to keep the machine going to keep that house. The show's popularity and her recent opportunities -- book deals, spokesperson gigs, etc. -- has her on the go, go, go! And she can't handle it! Why? Because although she likely savors fancy hotels and "me time," I think she is losing tight control of her family... In the interviews, she can't contribute as much if she's not around. She's hiding the "help" -- such as the nanny and likely cleaning lady -- and she's stretching for ways to keep the family looking as if like is normal when we all know that "celebrity" has made it NOT normal.

I truly do think that "losing control" of the family is at the heart her current annoyances -- did anyone read her book? In the book, she talks about how when she was released from the hospital after having the tups, she moved into her parents' house (close by) with Jon & the twins. Her parents had watched the twins; she struggled through the first dinner out of the hospital because she released she had "lost control of them." She writes "they were wondering who was now in charge." She says of those days with her parents: "Life was wrought with stress... I longed to regain ownership of my days, my girls and my life." I think their current state is similar: She is away a lot, then comes home and expects everyone to fall in line when they have spent a few days without her "in charge."

If I were the producers of this show, I would try and stop hiding the fact that they are celebrities and embrace it. I would follow their "appearances," business meetings, etc., and show HOW they JUGGLE that with the family. That is their "reality" now, so embrace it. It might make the show a little more interesting, and it might help J&K gain sympathy for their so-called crazy schedules.

Many on here have speculated that Kate and Beth had a falling out -- I don't think so. I think TLC was going to have to "pay" Beth (like Jodi) for being a "regular," so she likely decided not to appear on camera. I don't think she needs the money. And I think she truly likes Kate and the kids and would just step back.

It bothers me that TLC continues to portray this family as if there is no one else involved with them -- it's just the 10 of them on an island, so to speak. We know that is not true. We know they must have family friends and SOME family that see them, yet it's like they are holed up in that house alone, with never anyone but a contractor or delivery person (or camera person) around.

I too don't know why Kate didn't take her old washers and dryers, as they looked quite new...

And I do say that I have a twinge of jealousy when I see them at their new house. I think it's really, really nice, and the property and tree-lined driveway is so lovely. It definitely puts them in a bigger league -- which is slightly off-putting and not was warm-and-cozy as seeing them in a typical suburban neighborhood. We know they have "graduated" to a higher class, for sure.

As for those puppies? I think it's pure stupidity. Ugh. I can only imagine how this is going to turn out.

Perhaps Jon & Kate are doing more than one interview for more than one show per night - perhaps the reason why they look unhappy is because they are doing like 5 interviews for 5 shows in a row - I do think they had the same clothes on as last weeks interview - so maybe they are tired or plain having a bad day - we all have those days. We all snap at our spouses but I agree they do it far to often (mostly Kate to Jon)...I hope they take some time to work on their marriage or a vacation away together minus the cameras! :)

Kate shows that she has spent a lot of time recently in NYC, thus taking up some quasi-Yiddish slang -- like her version "schlop". She probably heard the word "schlep" and, in her own Kate way, bastardized it to suit her need. She is an embarassment to PA.

I suspect the reason they want tile is because it's at the doors leading out to the pool and also in the bathroom. Those areas are likely to get wet with traffic from the pool and wood doesn't hold up well to that. I'm actually surprised that the previous owners put wood in that area to begin with. Stone is a much better landing pad then wood when it comes to that type of foot traffic, even in the winter when the kids go out to play in the snow.

As for the comments on the Whirlpool refrig, they probably don't make a built in that size.

Those pups were probably only allowed in the house that day for filming. They will never live instead the G's house!

I'm also wondering where her freak out about the dent shown in the previews went?

My favorite part of the episode was when Kate was talking about where she got her great idea to let the kids paint. She said a women let her children paint murals on the walls before they moved and a kid grew up to be a painter.

Great Recap! I had to laugh when someone suggested Kate is trying to look like Posh Spice. I guess Kate can be Nasty Spice!

Here's a thought on the twins. I remember a comment being made about Mady maybe needing some sort of counseling. Maybe the therapist suggested to J&K that the twins be left out and only included when they wanted to be, such as family trips etc etc. Cara and Mady are in school developing friendships and sadly due to the cruel nature of some kids or their "green with envy' parents, C&M could be the source of ridicule. Girls can be catty and it seems they are getting somewhat nastier at younger ages. I had two boys and only one girl, and my boys rarely if ever fought with their friends whereas my daughter had a group of 5 girls and geez it was drama drama drama. Girls can be so cruel and catty in so many ways, so maybe for C&M this is a very good thing. Just my opinion here.

Also, loved the end of the interview segment when Jon just about turned his whole body away from Kate!

Were Cara and Mady absent from this episode also?
She is going to replace the hardwood floors with tile?? Why?? I can see maybe doing it in the entryway, kitchen and bathrooms but is she going to do it in the whole house?

I feel sorry for the new dogs. I wonder if Keight allowed the kids to name them. Probably not. In my house, we put all the names in a bowl and whichever name gets picked is the name of the new animal. But that would be the fair thing to do.

Now, she could've made all Kate's decisions and made her choices with ease. I just feel sorry for the kids. Something has to change with Kate or just the show in general.

I have been visiting this site for several months and I respect everyone's opinions and even agree with some of them. However, recently some of the comments about the new house have really started to bug me and I have finally reached the point that I feel that I have to say some things. I would like to start by saying that I know that the economy is in really bad shape and many people have lost their jobs in the past few months. With that said, I think that it is important to remember that the current episodes were shot in October/November at a time when a lot of economic events that have contributed to the current state of the economy were occurring. And I am pretty certain that the episodes were probably planned several weeks in advance so I think it is quite unfair to complain about them buying a house, new appliances, etc. during a time when the economy is suffering because that was not necessarily the case when the purchases were made and the episodes were filmed. I can say that I personally was buying items in October, November, and even December that I probably would not buy today because of the economy.

Now on to the new house; I do not know if the public will ever really know who bought the house. I can say that if all the rumors about how much Jon and Kate make per episode and per speaking engagement are true then they can definitely afford the house while still having money leftover to save for the future including college funds for all eight kids. (I am not even taking into account what Kate may be earning for being the spokesperson for P&G and Walmart). Many people have also complained about the new appliances, new floors, new furniture, paint, etc. that have been added to the house. I know a lot of people who when they move into a new house, they change a lot of things that they do not like about the house and buy new appliances if they so desire (there is a TLC show, Moving Up, that actually portrays this quite well). So Jon and Kate buying new appliances does not upset me (especially if the dishwasher is not cleaning properly which ends up making more work for whoever is doing the dishes) because if I was in their situation I would probably do the same thing. I also do not blame them for buying a new fridge because they may be using the old fridge as a second frig in the basement. My parents have and have always had two fridges and one additional freezer for a family of four. I can not imagine having only one fridge (even such a big one) for a family of ten. A big deal has also been made about the washing machines and why they did not take the ones from the old house. I think there are two reasons for this. One is a lot of times, people sell their appliances with the house that they are selling. And two, when you get a new house, you sometimes want new things to go in the new house. I am also not sure if the washers and dryers were donated; I can not remember if they showed the name of the store delivering the appliances and I am not sure if Whirlpool was thanked in the credits. If they were not thanked, I would have to believe that the appliances were bought by Jon and Kate.

I also think that changing the flooring in the basement is fine; it is their house and if they do not want to have the hardwood floor in the basement then they should change it to something they want. I also think that they are paying for these changes because because I am pretty sure that when they went to the flooring store (in the big van because the tups were at school and would have to be picked up) the name of the store was not shown. I would think that if the items were being donated by the stores, the names of the stores would be shown for "free" advertising. And although it was not addressed in this episode, I believe that they will be getting additional furniture at some point. They did bring the furniture from their old house but since this new house is bigger, they will obviously need additional furniture. I am curious to see if it will just magically appear or they will show it being delivered. I think that depending on how this occurs, it will be able to be determined if the furniture was bought or donated by the furniture company.

One final comment about the episode last night -- I thought that there were some really good parts, in fact it was one of the best episodes in awhile. I was very happy to see Kate pick up one of the boys over her shoulder and interact with him in a positive manner. I also do not blame her for not wanting the kids to wear their shoes in the house; my boyfriend does the same thing and I have been reminded several times that I need to take my shoes off before walking into his apartment and his parents' house. The kids painting the basement was very enjoyable and Kate was much calmer than I expected and she really seemed to be enjoying watching her kids. I also enjoyed the scene when the kids were coloring and I think it will be great for them if they end up getting a playhouse from that company.

jen said... My favorite part of the episode was when Kate was talking about where she got her great idea to let the kids paint. She said a women let her children paint murals on the walls before they moved and a kid grew up to be a painter.

So she let her kids roll paint onto the wall?

Totally the same.

I caught that too and thought how typical of Queen Freebie. She probably thinks that, because murals are big, they're painted with little rollers.

I wonder how much twitting the doc former owner is taking from people because of QFI's televised complaints about the state of the fridge, the age of the appliances and paint choices. He's probably about ready to play Whack-a-Kate.

First off, I want to know if there is some sort of TLC Christian T-Shirt Store where J & K and the Duggars all buy matching T-shirts. I have seen both wearing the "Ourapostle" and "Isaiah" T-shirts in their shows. Or, since the Duggars buy used, maybe they bought them at J & K's memorabilia garage sale.

Kate throws a fit about shoes in the house, but clearly feels differently about "bathroom" germs, as she left potty chairs full of waste all day long without being emptied, and who wiped the kids and washed their hands? (as we've seen from the show - no one). I assume she won't care too much that puppies are peeing on her carpet in next week's episode. But those puppies better not have shoes on.

I'm glad Jon loves his expensive new microwave that was a freebie, due to the popcorn button. He'd probably be horrified to learn that us regular folk are enjoying the same button on our 12-year-old, $70 microwaves. Popcorn is not just for celebrities anymore!!

They had to replace the perfectly-good wood floor with tile, because they were getting the tile for free and needed to put it SOMEWHERE.

Kate complains about the horrendously horrendous "mud puddle brown" color on the walls, then goes on to select a depressing shade of "storm cloud blue". I guess it fits her moods.

And no painting tape on the trim? No wonder they blurred out Mr. Trim's phone number!

GatorGirl your post sounds peachy IF Jon and Kate weren't exploiting their children.

And the economy was TANKING back when they moved into their house, it has just gotten extremely worse over the course of months.

Nothing they get will ever be good enough, so like it or not, the Gosselins are GREEDY and will never be satisfied. Therein, lies the problem.

Just wondering... did you catch the name of the tile company? I didn't, and I'd think if they got it for free they'd have to show the name of the company, or mention them, or something.

Also, can we be sure it was perfectly good wood floor? I'd be worried that wood gets a lot of traffic with it being next to the pool.. Could grow some mold or mildew between the wood, or under it even.

Is it me or did Kate look really thin in this episode? Like, no tummy and narrow waist. She's always had kind of slouchy bad posture but she always looked a little stocky around the middle. Now she looks tiny. Either lots of gym time, lots of lipo, lots of diet pills, or all three?

How about reading stories to the little kids?

Kate did this last year in an episode, but of course it was to plug that movie that I don't remember the name of.

Think the producers told Kate to show some more affection towards the boys? When they were trying to figure out the tile situation, Kate picked up Aeden and was being affectionate towards him, but I get the feeling it wasn't genuine.

I love how cute Colin was when he was painting. I think that boy is going to be smart when he grows up.

I've been a lurker for a while, but last night's show has prompted me to comment. Kate, while never the Post Girl for "nice" has changed radically since the start of the series. She is acting more and more like an entitled rich person and less and less like your neighbor down the street. Between the product placements, touting of sponsors and scripted "family activities" the show has lost all its charm and has become an over-the-top exercise in the Gosselins' self-interest and self-indulgence. Time for their 15 minutes of fame to end.

I haven't read the recap and I haven't read any of the posts. I just have to vent first. I don't know if I can read the recap. I am angry!!

Last night when I was up past midnight with a sick child, I watched with horror while my neighbor's car was repossessed. Thinking all the while that it's only a matter of time before we suffer the same fate. These are kind and caring and Hard Working people. They just cannot catch a break! Then, this morning my daughter and I sat down to watch this episode on TiVo. The previews rolled and I immediately felt sick. 5 Minutes into the show and the Gosselins are receiving about $20,000 worth of top-of-the-line appliances for nothing!! Call me jealous, or envious or whatever you want to, this is a disgrace!! The Gosselins have bought a $1.3mil home and are now furnishing it for FREE!!

My husband is a commission-only sales person in an industry which is falling right now. He leaves every morning at 4-5am and returns exhausted at 6-7pm. Some days he has nothing to show for those long hours because if he sells nothing, he makes nothing. I work part time and my hours are dwindling. Fortunately his was a booming industry in the past so we are ok for now but not much longer. There are people who have worked hard and have nothing.

I turned off this episode after about 10 minutes. Today we will be putting a block on the TLC channel so that my kids won't be tempted by the cute little kids. This is not entertainment, it's torture! It's torture to watch Kate be crazy and mean to Jon. It's torture to watch them be rewarded for this behavior.

I know this is over the top but this is really just making me sick. I can't watch it or hash it out on this site anymore. Nothing's changing and I have to move on.

**PS: Hey, Whirlpool, my dishwasher broke right around Thanksgiving and there's no money in the budget to replace it right now. If you are giving away free appliances you can send some my way!!

GatorGirl:

I do agree with you up to a point. Since I am not jealous of the Gosselins or their money and things (I am old enough to know that money in and of itself does not equate to happiness), it doesn't really bother me if they purchase things. It's not so much what they have, as it is how they got it. They got everything they now have by selling out their own children. Now that bothers me.

I too believe they have the right to change things in a house they purchased. I also believe they buy some of their stuff and it isn't all donated. Do I think there are much worthier causes than these people to give to? Yes I do, but that is not my decision.

The problem with me is not that they have money and posessions. It's how they came by them that I find disturbing. Money needs to be put away for those kids, without whom they would not have what they do.

Even money being put aside for the kids doesn't undo the damage of being filmed in private moments, though.

I sat watching this episode and I was just getting angrier and angrier. Don't get me wrong, I've never been a Kate-fan, but last night the bile was just rising up in me.

And it dawned on me that I am angry because she is being SHOWERED with a life of free stuff - houses, appliances, trips, clothes, money - all because she did infertility treatments. BIG WHOOPIE DEAL. Any fool can get implanted with 6 embryos and have sextuplets, anybody can take Clomid and have IUI with multiples - it's not that she's magic. She underwent a voluntary, medical procedure that included the risk (and in her case, reward) of multiples.

And I think our society is becoming less enchanted with people who do infertility treatments that result in higher order multiples and expect to live off the dole - Octuplet Mommy is seeing to that. Kate and Jon may not be on welfare, per se, but they are certainly receiving entitlements from TLC and all their sponsors. Corporate welfare, if you will - it's exactly the same fundamental thing.

Show me a woman who had UNPLANNED higher order multipes - no fertility treatments, no Clomid, no IUI, no invitro - none of it. And I'll happily contribute myself to buy that lady a washing machine or 4.

It's 'Full House' Olsen twins all over again. Time is NOT on their side when it comes to this show. I am 100% sure with every fibre of my being that they do this to give the ILLUSION of babyhood.

If this were a sitcom, they'd bring in a "Cousin Oliver" (The Brady Bunch). There's even an entire Wikipedia entry regarding shows that bring in a new baby or orphan when the show hits middle-aged and starts to slip. It "refreshens" it... NOT!

Of course I'd NEVER expect KON to have a new baby or adopt. So this just makes the kids suffer and look foolish and makes KON look like jackasses, which they are!

First time I didn't watch AND I didn't peek! After LPBW I turned it immediately. I haven't seen any previews with the puppies but the kennels someone mentioned concern me. My pet peeve is someone getting a dog then putting them away somewhere where you don't have to interact with them. Why even have one? They're pack animals that need to be with their pack. At least two together provides companionship for one another. Kenneling them will likely result in excessive barking. They'll bark at every noise and want so badly to get out whenever they see "their people". Lack of exercise and mental activities will produce a frustrated, anxious dog. I just don't get it - Kate thinks caring for 8 kids leaves her running ragged. Throwing two puppies into the mix is ludicrous. I just don't see KON stepping up to the plate on this one. I can't bear to watch that episode either.

I am not sure what has happened to this family. I loved to watch this show, couldn't wait for a new one to air and would sit and watch reruns all day. For starters I am not sure why Kate is allowed to sit in that interview chair and act the way she does now. She has always been a b*tch to Jon but now she is just downright mean. I agree, he is a complete idiot these days who needs some parenting classes and has anger management issues but come on they are supposed to be a happily married couple. I think the filming recently has been when the older girls have been at school which makes me intersted to see what happens when the little ones go off to school also. This show used to blur out the product labels and now zooms in on them. I can understand the clothing, etc. They are being filmed and they want the children to look cute, etc...Why have they never shown the outside of the new house..they have shown all of the other ones why not this one? Also the past three episodes have not shown a typical day in the life of..which is supposed to be what the show is about, not what color tile they are choosing but what the children are doing. Also why are the parents so adamant that the children never ever go in their bedroom again..to be honest this actually creeped me out a little. I have three little ones and I love to have a place to myself too but come on, wasn't this a little extreme?? These parents need to get a clue and start focusing on what is important and how lucky they are. They have sextuplets that are perfectly healthy and they need to take some time and let that soak in I think!

I agree with the comment about the stainless appliances, Kate's going to be wiping fingerprints every 5 minutes! As for the puppies, are they NUTS?? Not one but TWO German Shepherds??? Eight kids isn't enough? I also agree with the comment about how the dogs will be banished very soon, Kate can't put up with peeing/pooping in the house, dog hair, dirt tracked in, etc... They'll either keep them in the old horse stable or get rid of them, I highly doubt they'll be inside dogs. Hey, maybe Cesar Millan (the Dog Whisperer) can come and help train everyone and make a brand new reality show out of it! (Or maybe Cesar can talk some sense into them and give the dogs to people who actually have the time to train/bond with them - not just for the t.v. cameras).

Great recap.

I wonder how long it is going to take the churches who support the Gosselins and hire them to do all these speaking engagements, to figure out that they are being used.

The Gosselins are nothing but a couple of charlatans trying to use "blessings" to disguise their greed and life of excess.

They purposefully misrepresent themselves so that they continue to appeal to the faithful, God-fearing masses.

Their behavior is abhorrent.

No, I don't believe that every time they get something for free that they have to mention the name or brand. They get free clothes from Gymboree, but unless you see a kid wearing a shirt with GYMBOREE in big letters (which I haven't seen--unlike GAP), it's sometimes hard to tell what's from Gymboree and what's not. They don't come out and say, "Our kids are wearing Gymboree today, just so you know".

And I'm sure they get plenty of free crap from places that aren't doing advertising on their show, because I'm sure TLC pays for it if the company doesn't agree to donate it for free advertising on the show. TLC pays = free for J & K. Just my opinion, of course.

I didn't see any damage to those wood floors, and believe me, you can see water damage on a wood floor, even if it's very little damage. They looked perfectly good to me, but you're right, I can't be sure because I don't live there. I'm just going off of what I see on TV, just like everyone else.

Big animal lover here. I hope that the two puppies either do go to new homes or are treated decently by the G's, and are not mistreated or neglected. Animals cannot advocate for themselves. Most of the children would probably treat them lovingly, but not so sure about Kate. If this is just a look at all the room we have, now we can have animals moment, then someone should step in and rescue the dogs.

Has anyone thought that in order to prolong this show, KON might adopt more children? Look at us, as exhausted as we are, we not only took in a couple of homeless puppies, but also stray twin or triplet Asian baby girls. We have the room, and if need be we can add on 2 or 3 thousand square feet.

I had to chuckle at the absurdity of this episode as compared to the other TLC lineup. Little People last night was a very touching episode, showing how these doctors as well as Matt Roloff donated their time and skills to help 2 deformed children in Iraq. Then, there is 17 and counting. The family is doing a missionary trip to Mexico, and the children are touched by the poverty. Then, we have a very special episode of Jon and Kate. A day jam packed with receiving donated washers and dryers, picking out donated tiles, and painting their new $1.3 million house. Take about giving back, I mean taking back. They really stuck out as the greedy ones last night.

Good God I am so sick of the damm screaming on this show. Granted the kids have learned by example in their wonderful mother kate who screams given any heightened situation. Really what is the deal there? Last night I caught two min. and one was when she the Queen Bee got paint on the trim (funny it's not her fault when she does it) and she screams like a banshee. I never screamed when I was little because whoever was watching me naturally assumed I was hurt. Come to think of it being a 30 year-old "back in my day" not many children screamed because it was obnoxious and annoying and we had people teaching us MANNERS. I used to think kate screams like that for the cameras but seeing their old home footage of the love duds, kate is getting xmas gifts from jon and is literally shreiking (at times in his ear) over every one.

Now I have never found this endearing or "cute" especially on a grown woman. I know kate has her "issues" but seriously that is one that just has sent me over the edge.

Okay I've just got to comment. Kate has gotten everything her hearts desired and more...big ole' fancy house, free this and that, traveling first class, meeting celebrities, being a celeb (pseduo-celeb), an expert on raising a large family, just everything is hers now. And the key word is "now". It will crash someday. IMO flying so far and so fast in such a short time means she hasn't spent time building her infrastructure (business metaphor). And her infrastructure is her family. The tups are getting older and are getting their voice. They are now exposed to other children and see how other parents interact w/their children. Children start to wonder why they don't see that kind of love in their own home. The showing off the cute kids interviews won't last much longer because its hard to control 8 Mady's as children tell the truth at absolutely the wrong times--in front of the camera. Sorry for the rambling, but my point is Kate will crash but it will come from inside her own family as the children start to question things.

And I have loved the show unitl they moved into their new house and then I I just started hating it! I still love the kids, but Kate just pretty much ruins the whole show.
Hmm, pretty obvious why Kate parents dont speak to her. But, Jons parents were revisited when they went to Hawaii.
And, when they lived in their old house, Kate was saying in one of the interviews that she would go crazy if they ever got any pets. Then, she turns around now that they have their new house, they can do whatever they want and get TWO pets.
And when Jon was painting Cara and Mady's new room in the old house, Kate was flipping out and didn't want the girls to come in their room until the paint dried because she didnt want them to smell the fumes. Now that they are in their new house, she lets the little kids paint themselves. Yea its all better because Bart is there, unlike when just old Jon was painting the girls' room.
I peronsally think they are doing possibly anything to come up with ideas for the show to keep it running so they can have more money. The show can't go on forver because people are really getting fed up with Kate.

I could care less if they change anything in the house. The way they are going about it is what makes me so crazy. They came from basically having nothing but donated things, buy a million dollar house and it's not good enough the way it is, you have to start changing it. If I had money to splurge and didn't worry about money for eight kids college educations or god forbid a health emergency, health insurance, etc. I might be changing things that "bug me" in a million dollar house. I don't have any idea if they save money or not, just think material things could wait. The income they are getting now is not going to continue....financial planning for the future, I would think, would be a priority...it doesn't seem to be a priority at this time. Just more, more, more...gimme, gimmee, gimmee!!!

About the "popcorn button" Jon was gushing about:

Sensor Cook Technology

Senses humidity inside the oven and automatically adjusts
cook time and power appropriately. Once your food is
thoroughly cooked, the microwave shuts itself off, reducing
the risk of under or over-cooking."

I have sensor cook buttons on my Whirlpool Microwave too. They are not like the buttons on the 80's models. The "popcorn" sensor button can tell the difference between a mini bag and a regular bag. No burning. Not yet anyway - knock on wood.

I think they drove the black Sprinter to pick out tile because they dont want viewers to know they have a couple new vehicles.
The show sounds like an appliance commercial, glad I didnt bother to watch. She sounded very toxic as usual.

I don't think the "heads are gonna roll" speech was edited to make Kate look better. I'm willing to bet a bunch of money that Whirlpool got wind that this was being previewed and THEY made sure some heads rolled over it.

If I give you a brand new appliance and pay extra for some advertising, you damn well better not complain about a dent and make my company look bad.

They laid the hammer down big time.

I have to agree with some of the other posters.

Does Jon think that everyone who watches this show is some sort of hermit who doesn't ever see the light of day, turn on a computer or live a life?

Yes, we know that there are microwaves that have a popcorn button on it. WOW!!

Yes, we know that PR stands for Public Relations.

Yes, we know that you can pack a box for moving and label it with the name of the room it belongs in.

Yes, there are those of us who understand the language of skiers and snowboarders and there are others who actually ski and snowboard.

I know the list goes on and on. It's just that the popcorn button really got to me! They have been on microwaves for years!

Exploiting kids is wrong! said...

Ok Whirlpool, you're off my shopping list. Going on and on about a washer and dryer, too bad she doesn't go on and on about her husband or kids like she does the products they endorse.

Jon saying they need to do this work and that work...it's like they bought a fixer-upper or something! Please! I'm wondering who puts tile in a basement, but then again I've never seen such a huge and beautiful basement.

Kate's hair cracks me up. Is she going for the bedhead look or what? It used to look good with bangs and a normal back part to it. Did her hairdresser go insane?

I hated how she barked "no shoes in my house" or something like that to the kids and the handyman took his off. She mentioned that she was talking to her kids but didn't apologize for being so rude. Yuck!

I still haven't watched the entire episode but this is the longest I've watched any in months. Just curious about the house I guess. But this episode so far is dull, annoying, and pointless. Just one long commercial for something and further exploitation of the children. Shame on you Kon and TLC!

I'm sure a new $4000 playhouse will be next, judging from the pictures the tups were coloring. And, in an earlier episode, Kate told Maddie they could get a playhouse.

Oh, and Gymboree shoppers recognize Gymboree clothes no problem...all the outfits worn in the Utah episode my kids have. It's one "sponsor" I just can't give up. Oh, and I think their clothes are donated, they are not advertisers.

I think the Tups are banned from the bedroom because John is sleeping in the apartment in the upstairs of one of the out buildings.

Gator Girl,
I agree with everything that you said. I too have changed numerous things in my house since moving. The previous owners wouldn't recognize the place. I too was shocked by Kate's calmness during the painting and was glad to see she picked up
Joel (?) upside down. I think that the ratings will go up, unfortunately, because of the economy. People always like to see how the other half lives and no one I know could afford that kind of house now. I would really like it if the show would stop for the kids sake, but I don't see it happening.

I have to correct you on your recap about the contractor. He came in at the same time as one of the boys, and Kate was telling the boys to take off their shoes, not the contractor. And when Kate saw the contractor stop to take off her shoes, she did say something to the effect of "not you"

I love their new house and think it'd be a kick to live there with half a dozen kids or so, were they being raised to embrace outdoors/nature and outdoorsy fun. Every time I see the show now, I think that Kate set her sights a few years ago on having an "estate" like Beth and her husband did. Beth's house always seemed so warm and welcoming, and it was beautiful. I think Kate wanted that. Now she's got the house, but it's still not like that. I don't think she's ever going to have that home, because she doesn't have Beth's warm personality.

I really don't like how she puts Jon down and pitches little hissy fits whenever it doesn't look like she's going to get her way. She bags on him for something (like his vocabulary) and then turns around and does the same thing. Except it's ok when she does it. Cool, even, and no one better dare suggest otherwise. Also, I really wish she's stop with the gender-based insults. Jon picked good tile. Apparently the man has a good eye for decor. What's the big?

The GSD puppies are going to be a nightmare. That is not the breed to get if you've got an inconsistent, excitable, screeching and flailing approach to anything.

As for the kids, they are hella cute. If they did an hour of them being encouraged to explore (and collect, and bring home cool leaves and make leaf prints!), or playing games, or coloring, I'd be thrilled. One thing I find odd is that when they were younger, I found Collin to be one of my least favorites. Now he's one of my most favorites. He seems like a bright and focused boy. I love his curiosity and engagement with the world.

I'm waiting for somebody, who is extremely bored, to make a youtube video. First, it will start with this most recent rant in which Kate bemoans the fact that Jon "always" interrupts her. And then, I want to see a montage of every time Kate interrupts Jon, which is at least three times an episode. Geez, shouldn't she have "learned already?" I mean, "how many of these interviews has [she] done?"

Bloody hypocrite.

Regarding the twins not being in any shots in this episode; not so, Geranimo. If you look closely—and quickly—you can just see Mady’s pony-tailed head (she’s wearing a pink top) just move out of shot when Keight is doing the laundry. Seems that they are making a concerted effort to film the twins only when they want to be filmed. Great! However, it’s just too little too late, I’m afraid.

Yay! The Tups get to graduate from their highchairs! I don’t know, though. I just keep picturing the kids falling off of their big-kid, real chairs left and right--"Whoa…whoa!" Now Jane and Keight can box up the highchairs (they’ll have to buy two more, though) and send them to Nadya as a goodwill jester…I mean gesture.

Oh, and regarding Keight’s “you interrupted me AGAIN” blast, I was so ready for her to say, “Jane you ignorant slut!” ::rolls eyes::

Keight’s weird. REALLY, really weird. And über-creepy, too. ::shudders:: Vat a schmuck!

For some reason, Kate has never seemed opposed to piddle!

Or as they always have to say "pee." Poop and pee seemed to have never been objectionable and something they love to say over and over. That disgusts me. She is scared to death of plain old dirt, but pee and poop seem to be totally okay.

I first heard discussion of the acrimony between the Gosselins on a podcast I listen to. A friend of the podcasters works on the Gosselin's show as an editor. During one of their podcast recordings, their friend joined them and was lightly questioned about Jon and Kate's relationship.

Well I watched some of last night's episode and am appalled at the way Kate speaks to her husband.

One could argue that the producers edit the show to play up the more negative aspects of the family's behavior and interactions but my opinion is that Kate and Jon are in direct control of the comments that they make during the interviews and the nastiness she exhibits is just uncomfortable to watch.

I suppose the money they garner from the show makes up for the loss of dignity that Jon and Kate must surely experience with every filming and airing of their show.

I try not to watch anymore, but I happened to turn on the tv during the last few minutes and I was HORRIFIED to see the way Kate spoke to Jon about interupting and speaking over her. It was embarassing to witness.

She truly must have NO ONE left in her life, because anyone who cared even the littlest bit for her would sit her down and have her watch a tape of that exchange and ask her, "Do you even REALIZE how TERRIBLE you look and sound?!"

I can't believe that anyone who cared for someone could allow them to make such a total fool out of themsleves.

Unlurking to perform a service: As I've just survived months of remodeling, I looked very carefully at the too-familiar displays at the tile store, thinking I'd had spent some quality time at that store myself. Sure enough, it's Daltile. (http://www.daltile.com/) That's top of the line tile, folks, nothing is too good for our Katester! Believe me (or believe my poor pocketbook), I spent a BUNDLE on tiling the rather small floors of my kitchen and two bathrooms in... yep, a beautiful warm gray. (I have to admit, I gagged a little bit at the thought of sharing the taste of Mistress Nastypants.)

Trust me, unless they tiled only a tiny area, they spent many, many thousands of..... OH! What am I thinking? SPENT? Bwah!

machinegunsmom said...

Okay...Kate almost redeemed herself and then she just couldn't resist slipping in a bitchfest at Jon when the credits started rolling at the end...Jon was just emphasizing your stupid point, Kate. Lay off.

And...for someone who thinks "people germs" are filthy and disgusting, why was she putting her grimy bare feet all over the frickin' tile samples!? I hope I never shop tile samples that have had Kate's gas station feet on them. I'm grossed out by Kate germs.

It was REALLY nice to see interaction with her kids, whether or not it was "damage control," but I will say that when she spontaneously scooped Collin up outside of the bathroom. I didn't even realize there was a kid standing there and it seemed like a totally natural, unplanned move and it was wonderful to see. Jon's tone was much nicer this time, too. It was also fun to see that much of just the kids talking to each other--4-year-olds say the darnedest things.

I'm glad Collin is good at painting...maybe he can go out and earn a living when he gets fed up with his stupid parents.

Jon is right about Kate having horrible, horribly tacky taste. I'm glad he won the tile battle...and she used to not demean him for having style and caring about decor and sh*t. She was more than happy to let him pick out her clothes, before her personal stylist came on the payroll...

It's idiotic to take out perfectly good wood floors and put in tile...how warm. I thought the Gosselins were uber-practical?

I am unhappy at all of the swipes she keeps taking at the old owners, but I have to agree...beige is horrendous. I'd go into a coma with that much beige in my home. Oh wait...she's putting that color in the boys' room.

Alexis and Hannah's hair looked really cute in this episode.

All new stainless steel appliance package...need I say more? Kate really is a hoot. Stainless steel, despite what it's name suggests, is notoriously difficult to care for and I'm guessing 60 preschooler fingers are no friend to stainless steel appliances. I mean I know she'll constantly be hollering at them to stay out of "her" area and not go past the island so as not to smother her...

I don't like hearing a new producer's voice asking questions. I wasn't particulary attached to Jen Stocks, but it's just a sign of how much things have changed. One of many...

This is a really weird thing to fixate on, but I was oddly happy that the vest she was sporting was one I remember her wearing a long time ago, I believe when they took Cara and Mady to get head shots. I can tell the whole designer lineup isn't her thing and it's getting a little old, it's nice to see her original clothing make an appearance...you know, probably the stuff Jon "creepily" picked out for her.

I wonder if Collin has come up with any better names for his mother than telling her she's "a boy."

Jealousy over a "house"?

It isn't, and will NEVER be, a real HOME. What I see, looking at their tree-lined driveway and dark empty house,is a mausoleum(def. a building for entombment of the dead above ground.) that KON used their children's money to purchase as a great big f@&% %@*! to everyone who knew them when.

Puts them in a bigger league:

Whose? Anybody we know? Anyone worth knowing?

A higher class:

IMO, "class" has nothing to do with how big your house is or whose label is sewn in to your jeans. Class is something you can't measure, and certainly something you can't BUY. But GWoP doesn't have the room for me to explain here what class IS.

I didn't really realize just how much Kate has changed during the interview sessions until I read this comment. It was one of those moments that I just remembered clearly for some reason. She used to crack jokes with Jon and smile and laugh (blurting, loud laughter but laughing nevertheless) instead of just sitting there like a slug. kelly s has left a new comment on the post "Home Sweet Home Recap":

Great recap!! they are always better than the real episodes.

Can i just say, when the kids are painting, where is the masking/painters tape on the trim? Most people i know, and i would think a professional Mr.TRim, would put tape so your trim doesnt get ruined. Also, who the hell does trim before painting the walls. They said the trim was painted a couple days before they painted. Also, they are doing this with NO SOCKS on again.

-----------------------

Professional painters don't use tape. They can do a perfectly straight line/neat job with no tape at all. They usually paint the trim first because it is usually an oil based paint and you can easily wipe the drips off of it. As for no socks when painting - that is how you are SUPPOSED to paint - barefoot! If you paint while wearing socks or shoes, you could step in paint and not know it, and then track it all over onto floors. If you paint barefoot, then if you ever step in paint, YOU KNOW!

***********************************

I think I figured out why Kate keeps trashing the condition of the new house and the former owner's decorating choices. She is soooo not used to paying for anything - -maybe they actually had to pay for this house and that totally pisses her off. Apparently, TLC and the former owner should have just given it to her as a "love offering"! This Doctor (the former owner) probably has a pretty decent lawsuit for slander and defamation of character - all with clear malicious intent! Go for it Doc - we would all be behind you 100% - after all - you have all the evidence on film.

Jon's father, a Caucasian, is dead, and he died in the state in which he lived and worked: Pennsylvania. Jon's mother, who is Korean, left Hawaii many years ago. Jon's father and she were divorced, and she re-married. She lives in Pennsylvania. The only 'relatives' at the vow renewal were what my family calls 'shirttail relatives.'

And when Jon was painting Cara and Mady's new room in the old house, Kate was flipping out and didn't want the girls to come in their room until the paint dried because she didnt want them to smell the fumes. Now that they are in their new house, she lets the little kids paint themselves.

I too wondered about this because at least two of the tups have had breathing problems that necessitated using a nebulizer or something similar. I guess as long as one of the tups wasn't Hannie . . .

I personally see a big difference in the situation. The tups are older now, which I think makes a difference. Also, the old room was pretty small. From my experience painting, the fumes are no where near as bad in a larger room (that room is enormous) so I don't know... I can see it being time to let the tups get involved in activities like that...

I definitely agree with whoever mentioned the line up of the three family shows. The Roloffs: Matt risks his LIFE to help kids in a WAR ZONE get much needed surgery. The Duggars: travel to South America to work with the truly needy and you can see the kids crying because they are so touched and humbled by the experience.

And then Jon and Kate screaming and whining about how they are just too busy to even have time to sit home waiting for their FREE appliances.

Do they watch these previews? Do they see at all how horrible they look next to these other "reality star" families on TLC? The Duggars and Roloffs... while I don't agree 100% with subjecting the family to the filming they do, still, they are using their fame to do good in this world. What have Jon and Kate ever done for anyone but themselves? Nothing.

At this point I really think TLC is just riding the hype of people tuning in to see how horrible Kate will be this week. They know that nobody really likes them anymore.

This is the same [SIL] who argued with me on what a saint Kate was to raise all those kids!!! So she wasn't mad about child exploitation but was upset Kate got a better house than her, lol! I think it is quite unfair to complain about them buying a house, new appliances, etc. during a time when the economy is suffering because that was not necessarily the case when the purchases were made and the episodes were filmed.

So, the economy going to the crapper is a new phenomenon. Really?!?!

I also do not blame them for buying a new fridge because they may be using the old fridge as a second frig in the basement.
--------------------------------------
I don't blame them either. but Kate spent "4 hours" cleaing the original fridge. She could've spent that time exploring with the kids in a new house. Especially if she was going to get a new one anyway. Besides, wouldn't it have been more cost-efficient to buy a crappy fridge for the basement instead of using the custom fridge.

TandLMommy28, I completely agree. Last night when I was watching the Duggar's two new episode El Salvador special, all I could think about is how different they are from the Gosselins. I have never heard Michelle or Jim Bob berate each other or talk badly about their children on the show, or even allude to mean things. I imagine TLC must encourage the stars of their shows to go on trips to make the episodes more interesting, and I can just see the Gosselins milking OBX and Hawaii out of that, while Matt Roloff wants to go help kids in Iraq and the Duggars want to go to El Salvador. The Duggars seemed genuinely excited to go, too. And Jim Bob said he thought it was the best trip he'd ever taken with his kids.
I kept trying to picture Kate in El Salvador having a "servant's heart" and I really couldn't. Even her community service episode where they visisted kids in the hospital she still kept it all about her by telling them about her time in the hospital, which was nice that she was trying to relate to them but in IMO it should have been more kid-focussed and less Kate-focussed... all-in-all, I'm just disgusted with how selfish Kate has come off in recent episodes.

I am done with this bull. THe seething hate I have for Kon is eating me up. It's not worth it.

I think it is quite unfair to complain about them buying a house, new appliances, etc. during a time when the economy is suffering because that was not necessarily the case when the purchases were made and the episodes were filmed.
----------------------------------

These 'purchases' were made in October-Novemeber of 2008. In October of 2007, I was preparing to give birth to my last baby. I had taken out a loan to cover the cost of what I calculated to be roughly $2500.00 worth of items I needed (see, I gave away all of my other baby items for free to other mothers I knew who needed them so I was starting all over again). By the time I went shopping in the beginning of November of 07, I spent 4k in one trip that did not include a crib, dresser, rocker, etc. Just the basics like a car seat, a stroller, layette, things like that. The economy tanked, fast and hard, and it started in the end of 2007.

In the span of thirteen months since I gave birth to my daughter, my normal everyday household utilities doubled. It wasn't from the new addition (well some was but not most). I've seen my electric bill go from $110.00 a month in Dec. 07 to $160.00 a month in Dec. 08.

There is no way I am ever going to excuse away their actions by assuming it was bad timing. The only bad timing was on behalf of TLC and KON for lacking the common sense and compassion toward millions who will be homeless by the end of this year.

And speakig of home sweet homes, and not to sound like I am defending Octomom, but today on the news it was reported that her home is in the process of forclosure. I don't exactly have sympathy on her being as she was photographed getting a manicure and buying 15.00 lip gloss at Nordstrom within the past two days, however, where's KON and their 'all about giving back' bullshit now?

I may not like Nadya Suleman too much right now either, but her children didn't do anything to anyone. Where are the great Pennsylvania Do-Good'rs and how come they aren't coming to her rescue with anything? Supposedly Suleman turned down a reality show deal but now TLC claims they were actually the ones to decline the proposition. You'd think KON would want to score some brownie points and offer to at least let her live temporarily in their old house or something? It may not be a McMansion but with 5 bedrooms and a finsihed basement she can fit there with her kids.

Grrrr. Now I'm ranting. Enough about KON lol. Sorry for the tirade folks : /

To imply that the previous homeowner could sue Kate for defamation of character and slander because she called his house dirty ranks right up there with that one dude who sued the dry cleaner for $5M because they lost his pants. My hope and assumption is that the doctor simply doesn't care. What right-minded lawyer would take on that case anyhow? The doc is probably just happy that someone bought his house. This issue isn't rocket science; it's just common sense.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I realize that I am not a lawyer - and don't know the intricasies of PA law - but my best friend is a lawyer in a differnt state. When you impugn someone's charater with slander (meaning lies) you have every right to due recourse. When someone knowingly lies about a situation or event - and it has a detrimental effect on your reputation or livelihood, then by all means the Doctor has recourse. Obviously, I do not know for sure that all of what she has said about the "filthy, disgusting, horrible, gross, unsanitary, and oh, yeah - filthy again - is false - but if that refrigerator was so "completely disgusting" whith mold and she couldn't understand how people could live that way - one would think you might have been able to see something through the TV.

Doctors rely on their reputation, and everywhere is a small town when it comes to where people work, shop, and go to Doctors. I would venture to say that most of us choose our Doctors by word of mouth and impeccable reputations. Anything that suggests that a Doctor in a community is so filthy (I think all would want to think how clean and sterile any situation involving a Doctor would be) and disregarding of cleanliness, could have serious repurcussions to that professionals reputation.

This is no "women gets burned from a cup of coffee) allegation. This is knowingly (to millions on national TV) casting a shadow of concern over someone's livelihood and reputation. Think about it Mrs. Bally - how would you feel if such blatant insults were thrown your way - especially if you were in a profession where your reputation was tantamount to your businesses survival! I bet you wouldn't be so quick to suggest that it should just roll off your back.

(caps mine)

LDeke? PLEASE don't take offense; however, do you honestly HEAR Kate's words to Jon?
They are truly UGLY. And cruel.

I am not a Jon Gosselin fan by any stretch of the imagination -

But when Hate speaks in such an angry manner to Yawn, I presume she is trying to convey her impatience and disgust with him. However, because Hate has no self-awareness, she doesn't realize that instead of making Yawn look ignorant and ugly, SHE looks IGNORANT and UGLY when she speaks this way.

In college I took an early morning public speaking course. As I'm not a morning person, I was rarely "there." However, I did learn one invaluable lesson about the words we use when speaking to others:

Tread lightly when you speak in anger, especially to those you care about:

Once the words have left your lips, YOU CAN'T TAKE THEM BACK. EVER.

IMO, Hate has done PERMANENT damage to her marriage by using such UGLY words to Yawn.
And she will never be able to "fix" it.

this episode was really sad to watch. i believe that, right before our eyes, we are seeing a marriage disintegrate. we are seeing what happens when fame and fortune creep into the lives of people and corrupt the love they once shared.

Kate couldn't have been more mean if she tried. it was so sad to see her berate her husband; even as he was talking about the children they share. even if she didn't want to hear about Jon, she could have shown she was interested in hearing about the day of her own children. how will they feel when they are older and they see their mama totally uninterested in hearing about them?

she was picking for a fight with Jon. i get the feeling that it now doesn't matter what he say's or when he say's it..she will berate him either way. we no longer see them together in episodes and when we do, they are constantly and consistently fighting. In earlier episodes, we do see them fight BUT we *also* see them being goofy and in love with each other. we see none of that now. only fighting.

it has ceased to be a reality show about raising twins and tups anymore and, instead, it has become a reality show about a family on the edges of falling apart.

the *only* thing good about this show was one small part. there is a scene where the kids are lining up to wash their hands (i think it was then) and the main focus is on one of the girls talking to the guy that was painting with then. well, in the background you see kate's legs along with a smiling collin's head..she was holding him upside down while he laughed. then you see the line again and as the kids go in, she grabs collin, holds him back, and kisses him. again, not the main focus of the camera...but there if you look closely.

it was the only thing that brought a smile to my face in the episode.

All this talk about the economy, when it started to tank, and people being laid off is terrible but as far as I'm concerned it holds no water when talking about Jon and Kate. Please understand I'm as worried about the economy and unemployment rates as most but there has always been others more deserving than Jon and Kate. From the beginning as soon as these two got on their feet financially they should have stopped the begging and accepting. I feel they are not just exploiting their children, they are exploiting their fans as well. For someone to believe that there is magic Jon and Kate possess and that seeing them in person will help you to become more like them or you will learn their secret and prosper is ludicrous. It is like one of those cure all infomercials that is a con.
Giving Jon and Kate two sets of washers and dryers doesn't sit well with me because there are people in parts of Appalachia that don't have running water to even hook them up, giving the kids crocs and shoes for every occasion when there are kids in inner city Baltimore that don't have one pair shoes, giving the kids bikes when there is a father in Michigan working his behind off to support his family and his car breaks down. Giving Kate free plastic surgery when there is a person in Louisiana that has worked their whole life and now wonder how they are going to buy their medicine. Giving free computers and educational computer attachments when there are families in cities and towns all over the United States without the electricity to power those freebies. Then, what makes me so mad is Jon and Kate sitting back and saying they are blessed as if that justifies the greed and they are the chosen ones. They have no idea of the world around them. They relied on Jon's father and Kate's father's church from the get go. The one that just gets me to no end: being in need of paper towels and having them show up on their doorstep, really when you think about it could you not live without paper
towels. I think wishing for paper towels is the least of worries for a lot of people but it sure was important to Kate. It is that type of audacity that hurts me, amazes me, sickens me and makes me truly dislike anything Jon and Kate.

I really think that in Monday night's episode, Kate was having pent-up anger about much deeper issues. She has gotten beyond nasty to Jon, more than just her typical berating. I felt truly saddened that this marraige is crumbling to pieces in front of us. Doesn't she realize what she is doing to him???? And does he have a backbone at ALL????

Also, Isn't it sad that I was happy and excited when she hugged her kids, or praised Collin? It's like, that should be a normal, almost irrelevant part of the show, because that is what you always do as a mom, but it really felt like it was a rare moment that us viewers have NOT seen in awhile.....What do you think?

2/17/2009 11:50 AM

----------------------------

They always stick out as greedy.

That darn couple thinks they are so entitled simply because they have 8 kids. Big friggen deal already!!!!!

Just this past week I have seen extreme poverty on 20/20 "Children of the Mountains" about how poor the people are right here in America in the Appalatians, poverty in Irag ( LPBW ), poverty in El Salvador ( Duggars ), the berating and vilifying of Octmom and now she may lose her home...

and then there's good ole Jon and Kate Gosselin who believe they have had it worse of all and keep their hands extended out because of all the FREE FREE FREE luxury items that continue to pour in....all because they made a choice to exploit their kids childhoods. They simply have no shame and are a disgrace to this country.

I would be completely mortified to have either of these two as a member of my family. It's no wonder they don't speak out. I would keep in hiding, too.

And J&K, all those people who scream and cheer for you at events, they are doing this NOT because they think you are great people, they are simply celebrity struck wannabe's who have nothing more worthwhile in their life to focus on. It's either go see the latest celebrity trainwreck called KON at the book store, or go to Wal Mart for the 6,000th time.

Did you all notice that the tile they're buying is to replace the hardwood floors in the basement? And that the reason Kate made such a big deal about the tile having a textured surface is to the kids have less of a chance of slipping when they come in from the pool with wet feet.
HA, little do they know, that tile is going to feel like they're ice-skating.

Steph said...

I'm not a painter, but have hired them in the past and I must say that they've never used painters tape. They're so good with the brushes and rollers that they skip that step. I don't think the kids got too much paint on the trim and it took less time for the painter to touch up any drips than it would have taken to tape off the walls.

The whole segment with the tups painting was for the cameras and I'll bet wouldn't have happened if they didn't have to tape that day. They're taping when it's cold outside, Mady and Cara are in school, they can't go on their usual 'vacations' and they had to film something. IMO it was better than the dumb walk in the woods last week (how TLC made a 23 minute show out of that outing amazes me!).

With J&K away speaking on weekends and Mady and Cara in school during the week that leaves production to try to make episodes out of nothing - as we've seen recently.

Kate's attitude during the interviews reminds me of someone who's bored, feels they are being put upon to do a task they don't want to do, and entirely uninterested in doing the show. She acts like the interviews and even taping the show is a chore. I'm sure moving was stressful for them, but come on. I wonder what her PR people have to say to her after seeing her on the couch with her leg up, pouting and growling. I've got a feeling we'll see a different attitude and appearance from her after they've used up this batch of shows - at least I hope so.

Now that it is confirmed that they received everything from Whirlpool as a "Donation" it explains why Kate was acting like such an ass when the appliances were being brought in to the house. What a PIG needing TWO Washers & TWO Dryers. I am sure she said she does so many loads a day. Then in the episode the interviewer asked her how many loads a day does she do and she said 3 loads a day BIG DEAL!! She could not have 1 Washer and 1 Dryer for 3 loads a day!!! She is a Glutenous Pig Oink Oink!! What is she going to try to get free now? I would hope that when others see the new estate that the gravy train of donations will end. I sure hope so. Employees of competing appliance makers deserve business, too. I absolutely will not give up one of the only ways I have to take a stand against this soul-less program and the companies who support it. To try to control people by evoking pity is pathetic.

I will boycott Whirlpool and any other company as I see fit and will not allow myself to be made to feel guilty about it.

To point a finger at a company's struggling customers rather than their own poor business practices is truly shameful.

I think it is important to remember that everyone has their own opinion and it seems unfair to call someone pathetic for this.

There is a good and a bad to nearly everything, and while I can understand someone boycotting a product they don't believe in, I also can recognize that it may not be the best solution as it can lead to more layoffs in our failing economy, and it will also hurt people who did not make this choice.

I think moving into the big new expensive house and getting all the new stuff, free or otherwise, is extremely bad timing on the part of J&K. Like so many have mentioned and are experiancing now, times are tough and jobs are being lost and there you have Jon and Kate, not working (oh I forgot...they work harder than an actual 40 hour week on the family business) and yet being able to move into a expansive house and have it furnished with brand new appliances and the like. The also have extra $$$$ to paint and redo floors. It is kinda like a "in your face" from J&K. Not a very smart PR move on their part, but than again if they are producing their own shows, they are doing a horrible job. The last five or so weeks have been b o r i n g and truthfully, I only watch for the trainwreck factor. The kids are cute, but as the age they will be less so, and hopefully that is when the tents will come down on this circus.

This week is the puppies and leave it to GWOP to have an insider to already give us info! Can't wait to see how this is going to spun!

I have been watching this show ever since they did the 1st special which I guess was nearly 4 yrs. ago now. I had just had twins after having already had 3 singletons and I was able to relate with what the family was going through. However, even then I was kind of put off by the fact that Kate would always insinuate they weren't "normal" bc of the large size of their family. I was thinking "Geesh--you have 8 healthy children--do you not realize how fortunate you are? Get over it!" But I continued to watch since I felt their situation was somewhat similiar to my own and I could sympathize that caring for 6 infants has to be a challenge to say the least. Anyway, fast forward to when they get a series and she's snapping at her dh all the time. The "Toys R Us" episode it downright awful! But I still watched bc I felt sorry for him and the kids were cute. But this last episode just made me sick. I am fascinated as to how they will handle two dogs--but I really don't want to watch and give them the ratings. Esp. after reading about what happened w/ Jodi. After watching this past week it made me want to find out more I guess. I think I wouldn't mind
them getting free trips and what not so much if they were just nicer people. But at the same time what makes them so special? There are MANY large families in the US--and several other sets of sextuplets--they don't have their own series. I feel guilty for having caused their celebrity from watching from day 1. She is just a b*tch plain and simple!

I believe there are companies other than Whirlpool from which to buy appliances. So, the employees of those companies might be thankful to keep their jobs too.

Practically the only voice that the average citizen has any more is how they spend their money. I, for one, choose to spend my money on products that meet my needs but also on companies that exhibit responsible practices.

The current mess in this country is in large part due to those people in high positions in corporations, the government, and just high up in the public eye having acted so irresponsibly. Obama is on TV right now speaking as to how everyone needs to be more reponsible (as he has been saying for awhile). Everyone can do their part but the greedy, irresponsible people of the world need a lesson from the average people.

Unfortunatly the lesson learned from a boycott is typically layoffs to the struggling american to pay for the fact that those at the head of a company will not take a paycut.
I understand wanting to use your voice in the only way you feel you can.
I just feel it's a lose-lose situation.
Personally, I do have to disagree though-I think there is something else that can be done. It may not seem like much, but I do understand that you can't fix what you don't know. Rather than boycott a product, I would rather send letters stating my disaproval, and let them know that if they made decisions like this in the future, I would feel the need to boycott.

I suppose I also don't understand boycotting a product, and possibly causing the layoffs of working families, for a company who failed to investigate a show they advertised in. I think companies who treat their employees are far worse and more deserving a boycott.
If whirlpool had come out and said "We support the exploitation of children and we also support women who talk badly to their husbands" then I could understand boycotting them, as that is certainly what they stand for. Most likely, they simply don't watch the show.

I really hope J/K don't receive any Chrysler products. Our retirement pension is in enough peril without them causing a boycott. The auto industry as a whole is in a world of hurt along with many of our industries. I agree J/K get way to many freebies, and understand the desire to boycott the companies that provide the freebies, but if you think about it, who are we really hurting with these boycotts? Not J/K, they could care less. We are hurting each other. All of us are touched by lay-offs in one way or another. A letter or e-mail of disapproval is certainly warranted, and even a threat to boycott, but think twice before actually doing it. This is not meant to "guilt" anyone. Of course you have a right to spend your money as you choose. I am just looking at the bigger picture.

On an unrelated note, I just have the need to clarify something. The chairs the tups sit in are not "high chairs" They are chairs that are referred to as youth chairs. Rarely does a child go from a high chair to a regular chair. They either use a booster seat, or phone books, or sit on their knees to enable them to reach the table. The tups are very short, and these chairs are a good solution. Booster seats can be very unstable, as are magazines and phone books.

I am probably much older than most of you posting here. We used to take the tray off the high chair and push it up to the table, and it worked just fine. I think the youth chairs are nicer, and I think also help the tups eat with more comfort. They would need to sit on something, as I said, they are very short.

I totally agree about the sippy cups and bibs. Bibs are okay for very messy foods, but not for every meal. Regular glasses should be used at the table. If they are allowed to run around with the glasses, then I understand the need to cover them.

Yes I dont think those are high chairs. They are more stool with 3 sides.

I think they use cups with lids and straws.

Bibs on almost 5 yr old - thats just plain silly.
I wonder whats going to happen when they go to all day school.

I skipped the show last week.

Didn't Whirlpool close a factory & lay off a bunch of people in the last few years? I wouldn't have a front loading w/d even if they were free because I heard they have mold issues.

Whirlpool purchased the Maytag plant in Newton Iowa back in 2006--the plant is no longer in operation as a appliance manufacturer. Over 1800 people lost their jobs when this plant was closed by Whirlpool in the fall of 2007.

I understand there are people who are still working for/at Whirlpool, but after the decision to close this plant and almost ruin the town of Newton, IA, I officially started my boycott of their products.

I have a front load LG washer and have never had any problems with mold. Like others, I just leave the washer open between batches.

Several people have commented about leaving the door ajar on their front loader washers. I have not even looked at one of the machines, but isn't this a safety hazard? Couldn't a child climb in the machine if the door is not kept latched? [I remember my sister climbing in our dryer and shutting the door when she was about 7 or 8.]

Just wondering.....

Nice recap. Very boring episode.
I agree. Kate is looking more and more like a skunk everyday. Maybe she needs some more donations for a new hair stylist?
And how many times are they going to tell us about the new house? For god sake, we surely know by now. Once per episode is more than enough at this point.

Can't wait till the puppy episode... that should be interesting.
