All You Wanted to Know Recap

Last week we were treated to a sequel.... Gosselins Go to the Dentist II. This week it’s only fitting that we get another redux.... Questions and Answers, Part 3. Or is it Part 4? Part 17? I’ve lost track at this point, and honestly, I’m fairly certain it doesn’t really matter. In the grand traditions of sequels and remakes, this one failed to live up to the original and adding a brand new cast of characters does nothing to help it’s cause. And cue film!

Let me set the stage for you...

As we enter the shot, we see Jon and Kate parked on the couch o’ interview. Laptop? Check! Slouchy appearance and surly attitude? Check! Clips that just happen to offer visual proof to every answer? Check! Anything new to offer? No! Maybe surprises are in store? I don’t know about you, but I’m just dying to find out.

Cue credits.....

Act one.... Literally 12 seconds in and we have Jon mocking the entire idea of this episode, proving that he’s sick of it too. Try not getting paid for it buddy. Then you’ll know our pain. Informs us that he and Kate will be speaking for the kids, they can’t speak for themselves. Kate says they can, so he corrects himself and says they’re under 18 so that’s a no go. You know, cuz that might actually make this interesting.

Question 1 - Will filming keep the kids from having a “normal” childhood and do they think the kids will be mad later in life? Okay, we’re using the Cliff’s Note version of the script here, but you’ll get the gist.

Answer 1 - Duh, of course not. Their lives are “amazingly” enriched. Cue vacation shots. Well adjusted and well rounded. Cue skipping child footage... I’m not even kidding on that one! Cue cute kid clip. Sarcastic “scarred for life” comment from Kate, that she says won’t happen since they are learning so much. Upset with them? Nope, cuz they’ll have funding for college “by the time” they are done with this. My logic is sometimes fuzzy, but $1,000,000+ houses should come after the college funds. Positive effects. Then, in what might be the truest line of the night, Kate says “We don’t worry about them.” Yeah, we know. That’s the PROBLEM!

Since this has been mentioned a lot since Monday night, I want to address it now. We got our first shot of the Caddy in this answer. I really think this was Bob’s Caddy. We see the kids playing in a huge garage, but it’s like 2 years ago. Alexis is just about 3 years old. Mady runs across the garage and hugs a woman, but we don’t see her face. She greets Mady and it really sounded like Beth.

Q 3 - Glowing praise. How often does the crew come? What time?

A 3 - It’s our first new character, random sound guy. Get there early, have to wait to be let in. Clips of crew unloading. Jon and Kate say they make them wait outside or in the garage, I hope they are joking about the outside part. Kate says the time depends, it averages out to about 3 days a week. Doesn’t say how many hours per day for those 3 days.

Q 4 - This one is for the crew, our new supporting cast. How strict is Kate?

A 4 - More random crew, Kate has a bunch of rules. Cue bootie footage. Kids playing with their friends the production staff. Don’t go in her kitchen. Shot of her kicking them out past the island.

Q 5 - Are the kids in sports?

A 5 - Says Cara is in soccer and Mady did clay class. That’s not a sport, but whatever. Skiing and roller blading for Cara and spa day and beaching for Mady, otherwise all the stuff we have seen before.

Q 6 - When the kids are 18, will they have cars?

A 6 - Yeah, that’s a big no. They can get jobs to pay for it. Hello! They already have jobs. “Maybe” Kate will match what they earn, they can share a car. Jon channels a Jetsons episode. Joel drives around in the Cozy Coupe.

And scene!

Act two.... Same interior shot. Kate says they had an “influx” of questions so they answered in two different segments so it didn’t “kill” them. It’s hard work sitting on that couch. Mocks idea of question show. I guess this is to cover for the fact that half of this was taped ages ago in the old house and they scraped it off the cutting room floor.

Q 8 - Other half of new supporting cast arrives in the form of video email. What do you like to do as a family?

A 8 - Movie night, dinner, travel... these two are extremely bored. Apparently they don’t do anything together that doesn’t have an accompanying stock of film available. Rattles off all the big trips.

Q 9 - Do you want to have more kids? Want to adopt? Planning more kids?

A 9 - Kate rudely says “Yep, I lost all my weight just to turn around and regain it.” It sounds like no on all accounts, but then there’s a we don’t know that kinda sounds like adoption isn’t entirely out of the question. Eight’s a good number. Footage of kids howling.

Q 11 - Are you writing more books?

A 11 - Did she even write the first one? Oh, yes, she loves it and is writing more. Pimp shot of new book. This one doesn’t have Beth’s name on it. Or Jon’s for that matter.

Q 13 - How are Mady and Cara’s music lessons? Are the ‘tups interested?

A 13 - Cara took enough lessons (4) to film an episode, now donated piano sits there. Mady still plays violin, but more to be social. Jon tries to talk about Mady’s singing, and Kate rudely tells him they aren’t talking about that, but Mady can sing. Wouldn’t want the girl to get a little praise, would you Kate. Cue footage of Kate scratching out a song on the violin, the kids cover their ears. Tups? Nope, maybe when older.

And scene!

Act three...

Q 16 - Video question. Obligatory organic food question. Are they hard to find for babies?

A 16 - No, it’s everywhere. Footage of shopping trip 2 years ago. Calculator, coupons, sales flyer, bulk. No mention of private chef or craft services table. Claims that she never wants to buy anything that’s not on sale. And that’s right. The asking price of the house was $1.3 million, but they only paid $1.1 million. What a bargain queen, our Kate.

Q 17 - Kate perks up. Kate, how are you so skinny these days? How’s Jon doing with the personal trainer?

A 17 - Minor fight about how much Jon has exercised lately. Shouldn’t Kate have noticed that Jon was gone from the house every day? He skipped November *coughmovinginnewhouse*, went October, December. Kate claims he didn’t and is really snide about it. Jon shoots her a death glare. Plug for private gym sessions and trainer. Kate lives on salad, does the treadmill. Jon calls it “bird food”. Sounds like she’s on the starvation diet plan. That’s a great example for 5 little girls.

And scene!

Act four...

Q 21 - Name one thing about each kid that makes them easy and hard to parent.

A 21 - Run through of all the kids. Plenty of shots of kids in their worst moments and of them being adorable. We’ve seen and heard it before. Supporting cast, aka the camera and sound guys, talks about their favorites.

And scene!

Act five..... Reminder, this was done in two interviews. Ignore the different colored paint behind our heads!

Q 22 - Are the kids right handed or left handed?

A 22 - No brainer, right? Wrong. Jon and Kate not sure who’s left handed. Think one tup is, but they don’t know which. See kids coloring, offer no clues to the answer. The editing crew must not know either. Sad.

Q 23 - Video question. This one is actually kinda different for a change. Who do you find inspiring?

A 23 - Kate’s inspired by parents of kids with cancer, cuz, um, they keep going, cuz uh, um, they don’t know how long their kids might have. And they keep going. And they are exhausted and sometimes have a lack of income, and they keep going. Cue St. Jude’s on camera one. I really would like to believe she’s sincere in this, so I’ll only say this. Kate, work on that answer, cuz it was all kinds of rough.

Q 24 - Crew question. How do the kids feel about the cameras?

A 24 - Like this one stood a chance. Of course, like the cameras. Like they would say anything else. Kids obviously talk to the crew more than we see, tons of footage. Kate says that the kids are just living, don’t want to be part of a shoot they don’t have to. No mention of bribing them with candy to cooperate. Want to go to a friends house, they can. Funny, all 6 of the tups choose to participate every single shoot. And I know all the little kids in my life have to re-go to places like the zoo when the first shoot turns out to be a disaster. That’s just living for ya! “It’s not an issue for the kids.” Would it stop if it was?

Q 27 - Crew question. Do you have any favorite moments?

A 27 - Individual days. Pull up all 8 days. Yeah, I bet the kids liked those too. Maybe we’ll get to see it happen again. I wouldn’t mind those sequels at all. Knobgate dance. Cut the screaming shrewiness out of that flashback.

And scene!

Act six.... Isn’t this episode over yet?

Q 30 - Video question. What are the misconceptions about the show?

A 30 - Kate shows more life in this question than the whole show combined. They are working. We don’t see all the many things that they do to prepare for the show, press, scheduling, photoshoots, interviews, blah, blah, blah. Takes Jon and Kate “horrendously” more than 40 hours a week. Not even counting all the time spent writing books, traveling and speaking, and book signings. Saying they don’t work is funny to them. Maybe Beth could have helped out on those book signings. Oh... wait... nevermind. Hardest thing they’ve ever done. The most rewarding. No mention of it being the hardest job for the kids what so ever. People think that since they are on TV they don’t want privacy. That’s wrong. They’ve given away a bunch, what they have left is precious. Again, the kids have given away much more of their privacy than Jon and Kate ever will, but we don’t acknowledge that either. Kate says my favorite line of the night. “We’re aware that we gave away our privacy. We understand that. But there’s also lines that need to be drawn so that we can still live normally and have normalcy for our kids which is also important.” If what we’ve seen is inside that line of privacy, what could possibly be off limits? I shudder to think. The crew likes that it’s not fake. What we see is what is really happening. Surprising lack of footage giving away privacy.

Q 32 - Complete the sentence. When the kids are grown, we want to.....

A 32 - Kate, sleep. Jon, move away with them. Cue kids running down driveway. In college, will travel. Jon wants to visit at college. They dream of a Winnebago, spending 6 weeks a year with each kid. Shots of kids hiding under covers. Artistic long shot of family walking off in distance. Ruined moment by showing one of the little girls in her underwear and no shirt. That about sums up this show perfectly.

And fade to black.....

Its A Good Thing said...

What Kate and Jon gave as answers were the truth, a VERY small part of the truth. Their lives will be enriched but they will also (and more importantly) be severely damaged.

I liked the crews question and answer parts. They were interesting, it was nice not to see Jon and Kate.

I also thought the way the answered the baby question that they are not ruling out adoption. I bet Kate would love to have just one Asian baby!

Great recap! This episode was definitely a filler and could have been filmed at any time really, also I happened to notice that when they went from their first portion to the second that the wall color was a little different, it could be the lighting, or my eyes but maybe part of the interview was filmed at the new house?

Definitely fake. Next she will come out looking like Paris Hilton or somebody. But yet I can just see all the sheeple saying Kate is rocking that anorexic look!

BORING! (not the recap but the show).

ScarySkierNewJersey said...

Excellent recap. I was in and out on this show as it was boring and we have heard most of it before. Jon and Kate looked like they were mailing it in for the most part and my BS meter kept going off and making my dogs howl! You sure did sum it up perfectly!

PKD-in-Illinois said...

Now wait ... let's give Kate the benefit of the doubt. She may be telling the truth. She said the time they spend filming depends, it averages out to about 3 days a week.

The word average is very interesting here. Average (assuming they understand basic vocabulary) is approximating the statistical norm. Which means ...

They might film 3 days per week every week. They might film 2 days this week and four days next week. BUT ...

Let's say at SOME POINT the production company needs a week or two off ... or Jon & Kate decide to take a week or two off ... they could work five days a week for the next two months and it would STILL equal out to three days per week.

It's all semantics ... you can lie ... without ever lying.

I agree with BORING - this epi is Borrr- yawn - ing. But not the recap that made it more interesting.

Was anybody else slightly disturbed by the older, seemingly single man (was alone w/o kids or wife on tape) who asked a video question (I can't remember which, it might have been the "misconceptions" question), I was trying to decide if he was maybe a crew maybe planted to ask that question or if he was in fact a single man who watches a show about small children. So the part when they talked about Jon and Kate not working, because this "is the hardest job we have ever had". So they say they work more than 40 hours a week on phone conferences, interviews, photo shoots etc. So in that case since they are Not working but working...they are actaully working the kids too. Do you see what I am saying, their not working equals work and they kids do the same thing they do!!

I also HATED the attitude on Kate this episode with the fake Tan and when she said..our kids won't hate us when they can go to college because of this show!

Did you also catch the new AD which was all shot in the new place and Kate says "ITS ALL MINE" ahhhhh

It truly boggles my mind that these two goons have fans and people who idolize them. But I remind myself people loved The Osbornes when it was on. People just have a hankering for dysfunction and oddballs I guess.

Can't leave without commenting on two things.

#1 That ugly orange fake tan

#2 How much of a smartass Jon has become.

******************************

Kate said that? WOW! Those two are pathetic.
I've been thinking about this...and you know, even if one or more of the children grow up and write a tell-all book or voice their dismay over what was done, Jon and Kate will take no responsibility. We've seen how easily family is discarded by them. They will just cut that child(ren) off. Even now Kate pawns off a child who is not conforming to her plans. They will tell the world that they "Did what they had to do" and the children just "Don't understand us"...then the monster will wish upon her detractor 8 children...they are sick and twisted, both of them. They won't care if one or more of the children hate them...they will have their piles of money and that's all they care about.

nc resident said...

News flash to all churches and venues:

The college fund collection is complete when they are "done with this." So we should expect to see no more $20. pictures being sold. So conversely done with the show is not based on the kids decision but when they have enough money.

Ravello said...

Great recap, cute format. Tough one to summarize.

I wanted to mention the crew was asked which kid was their favorite and Joel was mentioned. The crew guy said " Joel is out there", translation, ignored by his parents, especially his mother. They seem to really love the little guy as I do from a distance. What a sweetie!

NDmom said...

When I taught a weekly Sunday School class for 3-year-old one hour per week, I beg I could have told you after two weeks which of the roughly eight kids in my class were left handed. These two are pathetic parents, doing very little "parenting". I see Jon connecting with the kids from time-to-time, but none from Kate. From the bits and pieces that I saw of this episode, whenever they showed clips of the kids, only Jon was ever shown holding a child, kissing them, playing with them, even just having contact with them.

I will join in and say that I couldn't stand Kate tan either. Shouldn't her "handlers" or PR people (PR stands for public relations, Jon) have made sure something ridiculous like that didn't happen?

I, too, am hearing verses of "Cats in the Cradle".

I think that's going too far.

You don't know anything about this guy and you're making generalizing about him.

Just because his wife/kids weren't in the video with him, doesn't mean he doesn't have a wife or kids.

And let's say he doesn't, who cares? Is there something wrong with a single man watching this show?

I happen to be a single 30 year old man and I happen to enjoy this show, or used to anyway, enjoying it less and less each day. Does that make me creepy too?

Kate said in the "All You Wanted to Know" episode that if her kids didnt want to be filmed they didnt have to. She added that they can go to a friends house or whatever. That may hold true for the twins but not for the tups. When it showed Mady at the dentist (the first time around) a crying Mady put her hand up in protest to the camera but she got filmed anyway after she was given the laughing gas.Right Kate they dont have to be filmed if they dont want to.Let's just pump laughing gas into them so they wont know the difference.

I am getting the idea that they set themselves up to be found so they could make money off these kids(remember"marketability"). The thought of them preplanning this lifestyle for their kids is disgusting, they are truly KONS. Maybe GWOP could have a post about this scam these KONS have created in the name of trying "to educate the public about raising multiples". They knew what they were doing from day 1. I am so mad that I ever played into this scam. Thanks, GWOP for exposing these scammers for what they really are.

Yes, maybe it's wrong to say he's creepy but there are so many people obsessed with this family. They drive by the house and take videos, they send personalized gifts to the children and they know every little detail about each child (details their own parents don't notice). If I were a mother of 8 "famous" kids I would be cautious of overzealous fans. Jon and Kate don't really care.

I think they have said that they were supposedly approached under the premise that TLC made shows to help people understand unique families or some such nonsense. And wouldn't it be just like Kon to feel they were so misunderstood. Poor them. How TLC actually found out about them in order to contact them is another story I suppose. I know they got a lot of publicity when the tups were born, but I still wouldn't put it past Kon to e-mail TLC.

Every high school had one of "those" girls who was a complete b!tch but always had the boyfriend, the clothes, the car, whatever. The girls all said they hated her, but they all actually wanted to be like her -- and they'd do anything to be in her circle. The b!tchier the girl acted, the more people were drawn to her. I can't help but wonder if Kate is popular because of this "high school" mentality. She has the unique hair, the handsome husband (please don't take this as an opportunity to bash Jon's looks -- that's not the point I'm trying to make here), and now the money and fame. She comes across as (what some may consider) a b!tch who is mean to people and who pushes people away. But that seems to increase her popularity. Even though she's hurts people's feelings, people want to know her, be like her, meet her, emulate her. She's the "it" girl from high school...who happens to be in her 30s.

I just read this really sad article about Madilyn Gosselin and how she's one of the most hated tv characters. I think the parents are to blame for this. You need to stop this show. Showcasing this disfunctional family every week is not healthy. The parents are obvioulsy too dense to see this and stop the show so maybe one or more execs at TLC will see it and say enough is enough. Cancel this show and then get that family into counseling. They so desperately need it.

1st Time Poster I completey agree with you as most of us do. If I had made the choice to put my children on TV and then started receiving the negative publicity especially towards MY children, I would stop the show immediately. No questions asked, I would walk away.

They have legal recourses and remedies to get out of their contract. They just CHOOSE not to.

They are the most selfish parents ever to be broadcast on national television and they should be ashamed.

Very good recap.
"Claims that she never wants to buy anything that’s not on sale."

I think the truth is: Kate never wants to buy anything. Period.

Man, I was just ordering a book at Amazon and saw Kate's new book for sale there. The fans are out in full force on the comments section, defending her every move. They are on the attack there and call people who are critical "Non-Christians".

"Even though she's hurts people's feelings, people want to know her, be like her, meet her, emulate her. She's the "it" girl from high school...who happens to be in her 30s."

I disagree. Maybe her sheeple want to be like her, but anyone with a discerning view recognizes them for what they are: grifters in the ruthless pursuit of enriching themselves with no scruples about using their children to get what they want. While I thought "The Grifters" was a great movie, I've never wanted to be like, know, or emulate Anjelica Huston's character.

And just for the record I agree with you. Kate is NOT someone I would ever want to be like....not in high school or in my 30's. I would never want to treat people the way she does----especially my own family.

So the criteria for being a 'true christian' is that you MUST believe in and support the word of Jon and Kate Gosselin? And or, in order to be a 'true christian' you MUST adhere to the same opinion as all other christians? Additionally, to be be a 'true christian' I must forfeit my first ammendment right to free speech.

Yeah, those evangelicals are going to get the sheeple reborn and patting themselves on the back for being Christians and "not judging." Hmm, so saying the Gosselins are inspirations and should be hoisted on a pedestal isn't judging. Not in my book. Just using poor judgment actually from what I'm seeing.

So when KON was asked about if they were going to have any more kids, and Kate replied, "wrong show!" was anybody else thinking this was a stab at the Duggars?
Yes, they have a lot of kids, but they're not selling their kids' soul like you are, Kate.

2badsosad: What is up with the web page's description above the photo of the hair style? 'Kate Gosselin a devoted mother of eight children and a loving husband'? Actually that is quite accurate, she does treat him (Jon) like she is his mother. Also, the web page titles the show, 'The Gosselin Ten'.

...
Haha..I totally caught that too! Also, if this hairstyle is "perfect" for "busy" moms, then why in heck are the directions a million steps and require soooo much product? All this to achieve the look of fresh, stripey roadkill on top of your head.

I used to love this show. I watched this and Little people big world faithfully. The longer this show goes on the sadder this family becomes. They have no family and friends in their lives and it's pathetic. Unlike the Roloffs, who also have a big beautiful home now too, presumeably from having their own show as well, but they have tons of family and friends in their day to day lives. Did anyone else here see their Christmas show and how happy they were that they could finally put up their whole family now that they have the room for them. Or the show where their very close family friend Mike died. It was such a touching show to see how much they cared for their friend. I can only imagine J&K+8's version of mourning a loss of a friend...oh wait. That would never happen because they have no friends.

mollybloom said...

Matt and Amy Roloff project personalities and feelings, allowing them to have touching moments. Kate seems oddly devoid of conscience or true warmth--and Jon looks stoned all the time. "Tender" moments from these two have to be scripted, usually as damage control.

Regarding earlier comments about Kate as a 30 year old who wants to be like the queen bees in high school...

Does anyone know what she was like prior to meeting Jon? I'd love to hear about her younger years and what she was like in high school. You'd think by now people would be coming forward with that kind of information. I'd like to see if her personality was as bitchy then as it is now. Someone needs to write a tell-all. Wouldn't that be the best!!!!

The organic baby food answer was idiotic. REAL organic food eating people MAKE their own baby food from REAL food in a food mill. They don't just wait for Gerber to come out with it in jars. Unreal. She says they couldn't get it much before but now she is jealous because it's all over. Oh I forgot...it's too hard to prepare you own stuff! What a fake.

Tami said...

I said the same thing about the creepy guy in the suit.."HE is a fan?? Why??" My teenager commented that she was wearing tons of makeup and I pointed out the ridiculous "tan".

Snerk said...

My kids are all grown now and there was no such thing as organic baby food when at least the older ones were babies. Perhaps there was for the last one. The only way to know for sure the food is organic is to grow it and process it yourself which is what we did for as much of it as possible. Why pay the outrageous prices for tiny amounts of food in jars when it's so easy to feed babies without it? Buy a real banana or some yuck in a jar? Mash a couple tablespoons of real peas or buy a jar of half water with salt in it?

I still get upset that Kate was so dumb and shiftless to feed the babies packets of instant oatmeal instead of cooking a pot of real oatmeal herself. It barely takes any more effort - but then she'd have to know how to cook. Then there's our Katie telling us to buy instant oatmeal in bulk at Sam's instead of saying cook it from scratch and really save some money over instant packets.

I don't necessarily agree when people say that a house should come after college funds.

Isn't it important for the children to have living space in the present?

Also, when it is time for the children to go to college, there will most assuredly be need-based scholarships based on family income and number of children. Especially for the sextuplets, since there will be 6 children from the same family needing to go to college at the same time.

I know I am in the minority (maybe the only one), but I think it makes sense to get everyone settled in a home NOW -- where the children can live and grow for 10-14 years -- and use the interim time (aforementioned 10-14 years) to save money for college.

CK said...

"Isn't it important for the children to have living space in the present?"

Yes, but a) their previous house didn't seem to be abnormally small or otherwise unliveable and b) the new house seems to be a bit over-the-top, especially in the current economic climate and given that Jon & Kate don't have what I'd consider a lot of job stability. The previous house may have been a bit cramped (although they could have done things to mitigate that), but they could have bought a bigger house that wasn't so extreme.

momto5 said...

As far as the new house is concerned, J&K can buy whatever house they please. But the reality is, is that a house is one of those things that goes perfectly in the "keeping up with the Jones's categorie". Most folks always buy more house than they need or can afford just to show "look what I live in". Many families are managing fine raising good size families in average houses, they just make adjustments. Many realize it is not the size of the house that matters, its the warmth and love inside the home that is important. J&K had a nice sized house already, and only really needed to make adjustments for size, but they were not happy and obviously it did not match up to their celebrity status. They want to keep up with A-listers and make sure everyone knows they "arrived". But imagine having donated love offerings to them in the past, just so they could buy this over the top house. It kind of reminds me of the TV pastors, lol. They put on a real "poor pitiful us". They are shameless. The more they get, the unhappier their lives will be and the more distant their will be between all of them. I have always wanted a big house myself, but the older I get, I am just glad to have a healthy family, my bills paid, and be able to enjoy our time together as a family. J&K are all about statues, money, and look at "me" and my sideshow. Sad.

Kate makes me want to gag.
Honestly, what kind of example is this woman setting?

She doesn't seem like a real person whatsoever...her looks are fake and her personality is a dud.

I thank God for giving me a reasonable and loving mother.

Kate wants to be thin, young, rich and famous.

Why can't see just be a mom...I just don't understand!

Hiya,

I founf it rather interesting when KON were discussing what their kids would be when they grew up. When speaking of Joel. Jon said Joel would be a model. Kate said a girl would marry him for his looks and later find out who clueless he is indicating towards Jon. Jon then said the girl would control him indicating toward kate. Weird! LOL
