All Smiles, January 12

The sextuplets visit the dentist for another cleaning and check up. Will they all remain calm in the chair or will there be a repeat of prior checkups? Also, Mady and Cara visit the orthodontist for the first time to find out if they both need braces.

Gee, we've never seen this before!

Come on guys, if you want to keep you're show going at least be creative. Dentist again? Yawn!

Mary in Ohio said...

Um, they are really grasping for ideas now, aren't they? Who cares about the kids going to the dentist? And my son is Mady and Cara's age and he will need braces, but our dentist was able to tell us that. Strange...

beachluvin said...

I'm guessing the twins do need braces since Jon and Kate were already begging their sheepies to pay for them at one (or more) of their speaking engagements.

I am so glad I quit watching over a month ago! Kids going to the dentist, boy that sure is exciting to watch on TV! I think they are desperately trying to keep this money machine going, but are failing miserably. I will be so happy when this show does end, and the poor kids slip back in to the "real world of every day life." Kate can go to therapy, and maybe get a discount rate since I feel sure the twins will need some therapy as well, and maybe by some miracle they will have some return to normalcy. Just my opinion...

Casey and Smudge said...

And the girls will cry about needing braces, so Kate will get a dig in about how her parents didn't care if she had to go through life without perfect teeth. No way will Kate allow her children to be mocked about their smiles - as if she hasn't provided a lifetime's worth of ridicule for all eight! All because Kate will do anything for her children including years of painful orthodontia because she permitted them to have pacies until they were three and they still drink from sippy-type cups and chew on comfort items. Perhaps Mady will out Kate on her invisaligns, haha. Braces and retainers require some follow-through on the parents' part, and I can totally see Jon and Kate dropping the ball on this one. On the next episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Mady and Cara go shopping at K-Mart for training bras! What other humiliating adolescent woes can we cover on cable tv?

JustTiredofKon said...

Poor Mady, another show set up to show her melting down. When will Mady's parents or the producers of the show quit exploiting this poor kid?

Tangerine Tanya said...

Casey and Smudge,

I agree about the pacie's,sippy cups and comfort item's (chewies) affecting correct allignment of the teeth. But I rather see the tups then watch Kate make soup any day.

Another episode I won't be watching. Could there be anythinig more boring than someone else's kids seeing a dentist? Watching someone else's paint dry...maybe. We all have kids, J&K, and we all take them to the dentist and the orthodontist and to play dates and sports games...tell me why these people are special again? YUCK!

Marie-France said...

These kids are treated like circus animals - hauling and schlepping them hither, thither, and yon to display them performing. I don't care about these kids' teeth and I doubt if KON does either - it's just a schtick for a show - lame as it is.

One week, it's making soup, now it's a visit to the dentist.
I'm going to call everyone I know to make sure they tune in.

Poor Mady!

Dang!

Kid is going to cry...Imagine the nerves going to the orthodontist with a camera crew in tow. Add cackling Kate into the mix and you got a show with alot of tears.

Just another humilation for Mady to live down when she's older.

Rebecca,

They probably do get it for free considering it's Jon's Dad's office.

Title change for this show

J&K Exploit Their Two Older Children with a Visit to the Orthodontist

With lots of tears, fighting and anguish [and thats just Kate] will the two twins need braces? And if they do how gets stuck with the bill? Stay tuned....

yeaisaidthat said...

Of course the twins will need braces. One more reason for their audience of supporters to keep feeling sorry for them. In these tough economic times, how will J & K ever be able to afford braces for their children. Dont forget to write 'twin's braces' in the memo portion of your check before placing in the love offering basket.

Three good reasons to watch this show...

1. Watching Kate makes me realize what a wonderful loving mom/wife I am.

2. Watching this show I realize what a wonderful, loving and supportive [employed] husband I have.

3. Watching this show I realize that my Farrah Fawcett cut from the 80's ain't so bad after all. But it is time to find a new hairstylist.

MoMom said...

Seriously? They are showing them going to the dentist again? Is that what happens when you have no family or friends to interact with, the producers have to film your yearly doctors appointments? What's next, Kate's annual pap? Maybe we will get to watch Jon go back to the hair dr. and see them count his follicles.

Tangerine Tanya said...

That cracked me up. This time Kate needs to take Alexis' pink chewie in because that was the ONLY thing that gave Lexie comfort during the last visit to the dentist.

This episode does sound like a previous episode, but I am going to watch mainly because Im curious about what lies will come spewing out of Kate's mouth.

Sarolite said...

I'd rather watch them go to the dentist again than go to some new resort destination. If we complain about their lavish vacations, we can't very well complain about the humdrum of real life too, can we?

Well, we can, but we probably shouldn't. I for one prefer the "real life" episodes.

My response is:
Yeah well I'd prefer they just cancel the show but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

I also don't prefer any of the 'real life' epi's. You know like the one where Collin has an impacted bowel in the back of the van. Or the one where the little boy is sick and mommie dearest lays him on the floor because he puked on the comforter? Those real life shows you prefer?!

WOW - Someone's been drinking the koolaid.....

I don't know which is more agonizing....Kate making soup or watching a bunch of kids go to the dentist. Shoot, I hate going to the dentist, why would I want to watch someone else go?

Sounds like another....filler episode!

ThreeFarmers said...

I predict a flurry of hints from Kate regarding the cost of their dental care.

My guess is that this epi will be nothing but a bunch of back-handed comments designed to get people to send them donations. Wouldn't be surprised if they put a mailing address for donations right up on the screen.

FYI I know for a fact that the Gosselins do not pay for any dental/ortho care in this town. Jon's father was a very well-liked pediatric dentist and as a professional courtesy and respect for him, J&K are given that courtesy. Probably one of the reasons they moved back to Berks County was to cash in on all the freebies. Think about it ...braces times 8. Not to mention, dental cleanings, xrays, flouride treatments, extractions for all those kids.

melissa said...

when I took my children to the orthodontsit.. the kids went into 1 room and the parents went into another to discuss how they were oging to pay for them

If Kate feels "uncomfortable" in front of the camera (which by the way I highly doubt) then she should stop filming and if she feels that way, how do you think her children feel being in front of the camera all the time.

Pull the plug already! Enough is enough!

ScarySkierNewJersey said...

They probably let the cameras in because they get free advertising. I read where dental practices take a huge hit when the economy tanks because people view it as a luxury and also when people lose their insurance benefits they will scrap together money for the doctor but not so for the dentist unless they are in bad pain. I am sure this being Jon's father's former practice that he feels he is "doing them a favor" by bringing the howler monkeys there to get their teeth done. I have passed on the last month worths of show and I guess maybe I'll tune in to Bromance instead of J&K!

the kon show said...

just curious, since we know that KON has an aversion to forking over cash for anything, most o all for the support of their children, who pays for their medical care? do they get it from the state or is it donated from local doctors?

Soon2bWife said...

I have not watched for an entire month and plan to keep it up. I just can't believe that they are still running new shows with the same old boring recycled themes. Don't they ever take a break from production?

lifeoriley said...

You know, if they do recieve help for dental or ortho care, I wish the G's would just state so on the show. As in: "we are so thankful for Dr. --- for providing (free or reduced cost) dental care for our children."
However, more often than not the G's leave things like that open to speculation. Why? So sheeple will assume that they pay for things themselves--"Oh my, how do they afford dental care/insurance for sooo many children?" Or, "Imagine if all 8 need braces! How on earth will the Gosselins pay for that?"

You get the idea-- either some fans will justify donations to the G's or justify the continuation of show because the G's need to pay for dental care, braces, etc...fill in the blank.

timetogokon said...

While I agree with you that the Gosselins get a lot of perks I don't see this as a strange one except that it's filmed. If my father was a dentist/ortho I'd hope he'd give my children free dental care and only charge for his materials for ortho work or something. I think this is more the family connection. Jon's father was very well liked and the people that knew him care for the Gosselins a lot and want to do this because it's what his dad would've done. I don't see it as strange that they get it for free. The ortho takes a small hit as they have to pay staff still, that's all.

-------------------------------

2 problems with this:

1) what medical professional with any integrity would allow filming of a patient's visit ?

2) many of the sheeple will not know this information and will watch this episode with pity for KON that they have to pay so much $ for all the kids' treatments.

JackfromNY said...

To me this is similar to when they took them to the doctor (the episode where Joel was upset because he was last to get checked because they went in birth order).

Things like that don't need to be broadcast on national tv for all to see.

Kon needs to learn to look at things through their children's eyes and consider how they might feel about stuff being filmed.

I will not be watching tonight's episode, but I look forward to the recaps here.

Hi everyone,

This is my first time on this website so bear with me while I try to come to terms with the premise of this ridiculous show. First, I understand that millions of people are curious to see how a couple raises twins and sextuplets. But a weekly series? Don't they think it would be better if TLC did an hour long show every couple of years to show the public how the family is doing? Do you guys remember the Dilly Sextuplets? Primetime Live would do a special every couple of years to show how the kids were doing and progressing. Jon & Kate Plus 8 is a ridiculous show. Do the parents not realize that they are exploiting their children by allowing cameras to document every stage of their young lives? How is this "normal" for the kids? It blows my mind that this show is still on the air. What I really don't understand is how Jon and Kate continue to wail their sob story about how difficult it is financially and otherwise to raise such a big family. Wait, let me get this straight, who paid for all of their extravagant trips? Jon? Kate? I don't think so. I feel so horribly bad for these children. It is so obvious that they are no longer comfortable with the cameras around. Anyone notice how Mady's attitude keeps getting worse each season? The poor child needs the attention that her parents so obviously ignore. Also notice how quiet Cara has become? Again, it shows that she's not too comfortable with the cameras there either. Is TLC really going to continue with this show? Aren't the tups going to school next year? What's going to be filmed? The bus ride to school and back? This show has so many things wrong with it that for everyone's best interests, it needs to be cancelled. Jon and Kate have collected enough freebies to last them through this lifetime and probably their next lifetime too. Enough is enough!!!

3rd Rock From The Sun said...

I will not watch this episode. If I did, I would feel like I am invading the children's privacy. I will wait for the recap.

How can Kate continue to let her children's privacy be invaded?

I think that TLC needs to find better ideas for episodes, if it wants to keep the show on the air.

Enough is enough!

As many issues as I have with this show, I don't see anything wrong with the kids getting free dental care from their grandfather's former practice. My dad's a pediatrician in my town, and when I'm seen by another doctor around, it's generally professional courtesy. Of course, I always thank the doctor, something which I doubt Kate will do on behalf of her children.

Irish-Gal said...

I don't have problem with free check-ups with there being a family connection, either. But, what I do have a problem with is why, for a second time keep in mind, this needs to be filmed. I must admit, I actually found their first visit to be somewhat enjoyable. Even so, there's just no reason why they need to film visits after that first one as there is no purpose of it. I hated seeing Cara and Mady getting their fillings, why was that crucial? I agree that this was totally set up to show tears.

While I wish they would show more everyday events (like pumpkin picking for example), I wish they wouldn't ones so personal.

----------------------

My husband is a doctor and as a professional courtesy, we are usually not charged a co-pay on our visits if they know this information. On the occasions that we have been charged, we fork over the $20 - no biggie that we have to pay. Professional courtesy because of Jon's dad is not the issue. That KON will use this episode to whine about how much dental care costs when they don't pay a dime is an issue. Filming your children's dental visits for all of america to see is an issue.
That KON do not consider anything in their children's lives private is an issue.

Note to self: record this episode and save it on the DVR for nights when I have insomnia. Watching someone else's kids go to the dentist (again) is coma-inducing for sure.

3rd Rock From The Sun said...

Why doesn't Jon step up to the plate, and tell Kate that maybe they shouldn't be filming private things like the dentsit? Doesn't Jon have any say in that family?
Just like Jon wanting to stop at two kids. But, no Kate wanted more.
What is it with Kate always wanting more, more, more and more? With everything in her life, she always wants more. There is something not right with Kate.

Yeah, sorry I've not watched this faux documentary "reality" show in a month of Sundays. I don't care how much you need some publicity their dentist and doctors should NOT allow cameras. I know that would turn me away from every taking my family there. Is that kosher with HIPPA even? Just as tacky as potty training. Normal stuff would be playing with friends or having parents teach you to ride your bike stuff like that not creepy voyeuristic trips along to the doctor or dentist office.

Ravello said...

I am not watching tonight. I have seen 1 episode in about 2 months and that was last week to see the announcement for the 1.3 million dollar home they purchased. Of course they gave no details and showed no photos.

This dental visit show is inappropriate, how about some privacy for these kids medical and dental issues? They will be very embarassed later in life when America hears they have crooked teeth.

I'm sure this show is an attempt to solicit some more donations from the sheeple for the dental care.
What the KONS do not tell you is they don't have jobs that would provide dental coverage. They both quit their jobs.
I'm sure some type of professional courtesy will apply since Jon's father was a local dentist.
Do you suppose they moved to be closer to their old stomping ground and these professional freebies?

And they are not telling you they are living in a 1.3 million dollar McMansion. But I'm sure they will discuss the costs of braces and dental care for 8 kids. Viewers would be astounded if they knew the details of the recent move.

I about swallowed my tongue when I saw Kate holding "Hannie" on the interview couch! I thought about yall and imagined all the talk there will be about that. Maybe Hannah really was having a hissy fit, but taking her to the interview just reinforced the behavior. Also, I'd buy Kate's "mothering" more if she'd do that for another kid once in a while.

Diane said...

Gee Kate, if Hannah is severely missing Mommy time, how bout you forget the interview couch and go spend some quality time with your kids, you know, where you play with the, talk to them, listen to them, read to them, etc. and so on. NOT where they just sit on your lap and listen to you talk and complain about your kids/life. This might be a sign that the show is negatively affecting them if even Hannah isn't getting enough time with you.

Yes! I heard that too. When leaving the dentist, Kate says something like "Well we know who brushes them..." and the dentist snarks back, "Those are the heard to reach spots, MOM!"

Toooooo funny. Kate seems more energetic in the chair and her hair seems to look better. I'm thrown off on the timing. Wouldn't they be in their new house? While leaving one of the kids says "I'm hot!" and Kate says "Well thats weird ITS WINTER." If they are in the new house...are they filming interviews in an identical setting?

And the kids look SO little in the clips of their first televised visit. Was that really 6 months ago?

Kristin said...

I think Kate needs to stop going on so many trips and start to focus on her kids. If Hannah is missing mommy, I bet the other kids are too.

On the bright side, having Hannah in the chair has made for less Jon bashing and I've yet to hear any screaming from the kids. It's nice to finally have a show devoted mainly to the kids.

Adrienne said...

AtoB, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Figure 8/TLC has designed a spot in their new house to COMPLETELY match the interview corner from their old house. That would help with continuity. It's just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Also, has anybody noticed that J isn't talking to K on the couch? There are several times she's said something and looked right at him...he either stares back, or looks away. Interesting...

Yes, what about that HIPPA law? I guess because the kids are minors, the parents can give consent for their personal medical info to be shared. KON puts everything else out there - why should the kids dentist and doctor visits be any different? It is very creepy and voyeuristic. Apparently Hannah is part of the interview couch these days. Otherwise known as, Hannah knows she gets whatever she wants and know else does.

The she was really quiet and well behaved the entire time.

I had no idea there was such a thing as a cross bite. Learn something knew everyday. Looks like Mady gets braces, but only for 10 months. (that sounds so short to me.) I also didn't know that between the ages of 8 and 10 your teeth grow the most. Maybe if my brother had had braces put on when he was 8 he wouldn't have had to have his top jaw broken. He had had braces but they didn't fix his underbite.

I wonder if after the braces Mady and Cara will look more alike.

It's interesting to see Kate and Jon switching places on the couch. They don't even look like they like each other anymore.

This show was so boring.

I just can't believe it's Jon's fault that the kids have tarter build up and that he doesn't brush the kids teeth good enough. Well, maybe if Kate was home more often, they could be done the proper way.

Kate lied this episode. She said the last visit was 6 months ago, and they kept showing their last dentist visit that was aired. Problem is, that aired on October 29th 2007, meaning it was shot in the summer of 2007. The last visit that the viewers saw was over a year and a half ago.

And Kate was being mean about the condition of Mady's teeth. She can't control that, poor girl.

IMO, it seems that Hannah may have found a way to "bond" with mommy and get that private time they all so desperately need... by learning to belittle others along with her... a little Kate in training perhaps? Maybe... Poor Mady indeed.

I remember back on the original dentist/barber episode Jon and/or Kate mentioned that the dentist they went to was Jon's father's partner, a nice lady named Kristen(?) and that was why they got free care. I think that was back when J&K were still fairly tolerable and acted grateful for free things instead of acting as if they were automatically entitled to everything they want.

I have ten kids and I've never given them a choice. When we get there, they ask me what order and they usually take two at a time back. I don't usually take more than four kids at a time though. Taking all ten at once would mean too much time in the waiting room for everyone else.

What absolutely infuriated me during this episode was how Kate continuously made everything about her - from there being 8 chairs at the ortho to not being sung to when she got HER braces off. I'm sure some people will view those kinds of comments as just being funny & joking around, but we've all seen her talk like this before. Her self-centeredness is completely intolerable!

The WORST example was after Collin had asked for "mango flavored toothpaste" (which they didn't have), and Kate said that she "bets" that the next time they go to the dentist, they WILL have the mango flavor. Yes Kate, I'm sure they will......because all the people & businesses in the world exist only to make you happy. God who does she think she is?!?!

RuthinVA said...

If Hannah was missing mommy so much how come she spent the majority of the time on Jon's lap?

Exhausted said...

I like how they continue to be vague about what their life is actually like now. I remember the "warts and all" approach used to describe the show way back when. But now Kate says that Hannah was missing her. Missing her from what? Where were ya, Kate? And where was Jon while you were taking the kids to two different appointments? Are these "lucky to be at home" parents ever with their kids all together as a family?

More questions: Do the twins still really need to be dressed the same? Does Mady really need to have her personal problem publicized? My heart broke as they told Cara how good her teeth looked and she had to wait there for the bad news about her own.

And we like our yellow jacket, don't we? She just saunters into those appointments as though she's Posh Spice, doesn't she? She is such a low-class, clueless scrapper.

Exhausted said...

I think Jon purposely threw himself into playing with Hannah on the couch so he didn't have to acknowledge Kate. He barely said a thing; nor did he make any jokes. Their marriage is dead. He hates her more than we do! I wish he'd start taking a stand and sticking up for these poor children.

Another thing...the nerve of Kate telling the dentist that she needs to update the books in the office because Pluto is no longer a planet...Kate actually said she NEEDS to update them. Who the heck is Kate to be telling the Dr. that she needs to do anything? Also by the cover of the book it seemed very advanced for the child she was reading it to. I wonder if those kids will ever know classic books by Eric Carle, Robert Munsch, Tommie Depaola and Dr. Suess... the books that are more appropriate for their age. She has no clue.

There was a time that the couch time was the time J&K got to reflect and talk about things and learn. Guess "little mommy" Hannah has them wrapped around her little digits. She is learning the final skill of belittling her older sister about the teeth that may need to extract care of Queen Kate herself.

On this episode of Boring Kate plus 8, the kids have their privacy invaded once again. This episode should of been private. Who really cares if these kids have any dental problems. Poor Mady, Kate made it sound like the poor girl had trench mouth. I think it is a the parents responsiblity to teach their children about dental hygiene. If Mady is not brushing properly than Kate it is your fault. Have we sunk so low, in this society that we find it entertaining to watch a group of pre-schoolers and grade schoolers go the the dentist? I think this episode really crosses the line here when we are allowe into these childrens private medically concerns. I would be floored if I was mady and they showed my image of my teeth for the world to see. They should have a show about just Kate and her precious little Hannie. Kate kept making everything all about her. She always has to bring up her pregnancy. This woman has some serious issues she needs to work through. I would like to see this show cancelled. They should start up a show where Kate goes to a psychiatrist and the public gets to view her private sessions. Also put them both in couples counseling and let the viewers tune in. We of course would get to follow them throughout the day to see if the counseling is working. They would have just the one child Hannah and the rest of the children would be off limits to filming. Now that would be a show.

GrammyPie said...

Well Hannie learned from this episode, bad behavior earns reward. The way they fawned over her gagged me. I also thought it was very inappropriate for them to discuss the other children, especially Mady in front of Hannah. I think having Hannah on the interview couch was a obviously to annoy those of us who are critical of her blatant favortism of her. I agree if she had one of the boys on her lap and was cuddling them, I would have been way less annoyed. Of course I would have figured it was staged :)

in regards to Kon's union- I wonder if the Curse of the Reality Show will hold true for them? It seems that the rigors of a reality show tends to make relationships spontaneously implode. There are many examples of this. I just wonder how much more they can tolerate of each other. Their body language speaks volumes.

snerk said...

Kate is crazier than I thought. Why would they sing to her as an adult getting braces off? No one sang to any of my kids when they got their braces off and they were children when they had them.

She's just a selfish ego-centric witch.

They are trying to prolong the showing of the house to the viewers, because they know after that house is filmed it is goodbye love offerings. This show was yet another boring epi of Kate pretending that she still does the mom thing all by herself. They have stopped filming Jenny (the nanny) for that reason.

1/12/2009 5:21 AM

Great! The Gosselin's get free dental and to compensate the Dentist all the other clients get a 10% increase on their bill.

Did everyone notice how many times Kate mentioned that the dentists were friends of Jon's family. Another plug for freebies.

Did Kate really shush Jon when they were talking about the dentist?
------------------------

Yes, she really did shush him, and waved her hand at him. He said VERY little after that stupid maneuver. Such a good example for Hannah to see.

Merrilee said...

Even when the show does finally end, the Gosselins will live on forever with their "corporation" and the other "secrets" we will someday learn about. I am afraid they are in for the long run.

RuthinVA said...

Kate just can't stand it when the conversation is not about her. The reason she say so many things like they didn't sing to me when I got my braces off is because she equates everything to herself. She is an extremly selfish persom. You can see she becomes joyous when someone says negatives things about Mady. She looks at the camera smiles and gives that all knowing nod. I didn't see the part where she talked to Hannah about Mady's teeth. You know some children that watch this will try to tease Mady at school, especially if she has acted at school the way she does at home. The real shame is she is a beautiful child but I think she will grow up questioning her appearance. They all need help issues are brewing.

Marie-France said...

Lisak, I think Jenny is off the show and has been off since the end of the summer. She graduated from Etown College in June and I think she is in graduate school in a neighboring state (according to her Facebook page). She is also of friend of Mark Gosselin, Jon's younger brother, BTW. KON must have other helpers who are totally off camera, I'm sure.

Chrissy said...

No Kate - they didn't sing to you when you had your braces off. However they did sing the minute you left the office - probably Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead or Hallelujah.

Can't you ever say anything nice about your beautiful daughter Mady?

RuthinVA said...

In order for Kate and Jon to have a corporation and be profitable she has to stay in the public eye.
If she is not in the public eye what services or products could she sell especially in this economy. Let's be honest we are know her writing skills are limited. Her popularity with the churches is because of Jon and Kate + eight. I don't think she could have a career as motivational speaker so what can she do. I just can't think of anything (even if I liked her) that Kate could do that would make me spend money. I guess they could have corporated their whole deal, shows, speaking engagements and whatever else it is they do.

Addison said...

I think Kate actually shushed Jon when he accidently interrupted Hannah when she was talking about what flavor of fluoride (or tooth polish or whatever) she got. That was so rude.

Anyway, poor Mady! I had braces when I was that age for an underbite and its bad enough dealing with them without being ridiculed by your own family.

vaikea said...

Yes, it is kosher with HIPPA. All HIPPA does is give the patient/guardian the right to control what information is shared and how. Since KON doesn't care who sees anything about their family, no matter how private, it's all good!

I don't care that the kids get free dental care, I do care that KON never says thank you to anyone except Jesus, and that second hand, ie. "We're so grateful for what Jesus has given us" as opposed to "Thank you, Jesus, for everything you've blessed us with"

Why say thank you when sticking your hand out works juuuussst fiiine.

Teen1 said...

Poor Mady. Oh, man. Those were some bad x-rays.

Kate said something like she wished she could still brush Mady's teeth.

Hey, Kate? Maybe you could HELP Mady brush, show her how to do it really well, get her a nice sonic toothbrush...or maybe just complain about Jon not doing a good job. Yeah, that's what she should do! That really helps a lot.

Oh, and nice touch holding Hannah (who else?) on the interview chair. Just when I thought I couldn't get any more disgusted with Jon and Kate's horrible parenting.

Aunty K.K. said...

WOW! WHat a dentist office! Could you imagine what you would pay for a 'general cleaning'! especially since they obviously have ALL the 'up-to-date" items! WOW!

As for the show:

1. Totally UnChristian like behaviour!

2. To talk about another child, or children, in front of Hannah, is SO wrong!

3. To say over and over and over, and over...(you get the idea), that Mady needs MAJOR work! That some 'fairies' are rearranging her teeth at night...and here's Mady, stating, a minimum of 3 times, how much she HATES her teeth..just to have the WORLD hear her Mom, her OWN MOM, state how terrible her teeth are...I would be totally humiliated, and not want to open my mouth again until all my dental work was completed! HOW UNFAIR for MADY!!!!

4. To keep Hannah in their laps the whole interview, as that's the 'easiest' way to handle her behaviour...Huh?? If it were any other "tup" I'm sure they would have been in "time-out", yelled at, or spanked, (as K/J have stated, at talks, that they do 'spank').

5. Do these children brush their own teeth at all right now? I know they, K/J , could help with the back parts, but comeon now...what kind of 'teasing' will the 'tups' have now that their school 'mates' have seen Mom and Dad brushing their teeth morning and night?

6. It's so Christian telling your husband to "shh"!

7. Another lie, as the last show of the 'dentist' appointment, was at least a year ago...and y ou can tell, by the 'flashbacks' that it was more than 6 months ago! Hello people, we're not dumb here!

8. Between favourism with Hannah, (as I"m sure any other child wouldn't have been allowed to sit in their laps during the interview), and the constant 'degrading' of Mady's teeth, and the "ME, Me, Me", with Kate, (my braces, didn't sing to me, you've got 8 chairs, just for 'us', these are 'our' dental friends, etc),this show was showing the 'real' Kate!

9. You can certainly tell Kate is not used to reading books---and then to tell the staff to buy new books, because 'Pluto" is not a planet anymore? What nerve!

10. Of course, Kate had to tell Collin only, to be quiet or he'd get time out, never mind the girls were talking too....these poor boys! They look so SAD all the time now! We hardly see any smiles from them, and they are so 'gorgeous'!

I could go on and on, as I'm so frustrated with Kate degrading her children, and playing favourites!!!
ANd, with them promoting such a 'positive Christian lifestyle', they still don't live the life! (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and lastly,,,self-control!!!)

Thanks, I needed to 'vent' after that show!

I noticed a "Happy Thanksging" sign in the waiting room. So the couch talk must have been from a room in their new house.

Also, Kate wasn't saying "um" every two seconds. They must have either edited it out, or Kate has someone teaching her not to say it.
It just goes to show you that Jon, Kate and their PR team reads this blog.

KA-BOOM!
Brains all over the wall.
I think those kids are well aware where they rank on Mommy dearests affections, and even the favored Hannie falls far down the list of favortie things with the top is Me, Myself, and I, Money, Attention, Me, Money, goodies, spas so forth and so on. Those kids are just accessories and she never plays with them or shows them the affection a "real" mother shows loved and wanted children. She finds almost anything more important then interacting with them (sorting shoes and clothes)and has been finding more and more reasons to be out of the house, away from them.

Maybe every new episode, we'll see a different child on the couch with Jon and Kate, during the talk time. This could be something new that their PR team has thought up for damage control.

I really felt bad for Mady this episode. Particularly after Cara was asked to smile and was told by the dentist that her smile was pretty good, and then Mady was asked to smile and she gave a big, beautiful smile only to get an 'oh dear' kind of reaction from the dentist. That really made me sad.

Hi I'm new hew post but not new reading. I came to see if all of you caught the bloopers I did and sure enough you all did.
When one of the boys said he was hot, and Kate said that was weeird because it was winter, it was Hannah who said "mommy, I'm cold". Also why is the grass so green in winter? Doesn't the grass turn yellow in Penn during the winter like all the other cold weather states? Because when they all walked out of the dentist office and all this was said, the grass was green as it would be in summer.

By the way, I used to adore this show, but I found this site. I talked to my DH about the show and what you all said. And he said, "Honey, thats why I call the show Jon and 8 hate Kate."

I want to see their new house but after that I'm pulling the plug on the Jon and 8 hate Kate show. It makes my stomach hurt.

Oh before I forget, why can't they just do fun shows like the time they took the kids to pick apples? I would much rather watch those poor kids pick apples every week than watch jon and Kate.

I just watched this episode and I am so angry at how Kate was blatantly making fun of her own daughter. Rather then tell her not to worry about her teeth and how she is still beautiful, she was laughing at the fact that she needs braces?!! She was laughing because the doctor was taking a long time to look at her X-rays? She was acting like a child, like a bully in the school yard. This isn't what a mom does. Mady clearly states she doesn't like her teeth, and this was the perfect opportunity to say to her "Don't worry, you will have nice teeth again." My younger sister went through a lot emotionally when she had her braces, but she now has a nice smile just like she did before her teeth began falling out. Kate was acting like her child was deformed. My 18 month old has a space in her teeth now, and even though I know sometimes it isn't nice looking I would never laugh at her and tell her she isn't pretty. Kate should have been supportive and I am so angry at her. She needs to stop being a mom if all these motherly things bother her so much. This is what happens when you have kids. As much as going to appointments is tedious they need to be done and you need to be there for the kids.

If there was a glimmer of hope that I would ever like anything about Kate it is soooo gone now.
Arrrgh.....I brought out my mental magnifying glass and this is what I noticed.

1. She yelled @ Collin and took
the stuffed animal away from
him and handed it directly to
Hannah.

2. When the tups were selecting
a toothbrush Kate said "Hey
Hannnah get a toothbrush"

3. Mady's hair (bangs) are
starting to look like Kate's.
They are hanging in her eyes
on the left hand side.

4. Horrible Kate had some nerve
telling the dentist to "up-date"
her books. The lady is a
dentist Kate not a librarian.
Did you hear the dentist say
that the books were there since
Dr.Gosselin?

5. When the dental hygienist were
very nicely offering the tups
a variety of flavors of tooth
paste etc....instead of Kate
thinking what a great and
creative idea it was...all she
could muster out of that nasty
mouth was...."Dont they know
the rules? You only offer three
year olds 3 flavors" That
reminded me of the gum gate
when she was psssst @ Aunt Jodi

6. Putting her mouth over Jon's
and shushing him up.

7. Making fun on Madeline.

8 Letting the beloved Hannie
sit on her lap...I agree with
another poster that it was
done to just irk us.

9. All about Kate again. Her braces
Not singing to her.

10. That damn ugly yellow jacket.

I need to go and take a chill
pill right about this point.

I felt really bad for the twins the way Kate would say their names aloud then whisper to Jon flaws about their teeth. Someone on here made a reference to the christmas story before and when Kate was talking about there teeth the scene went through my mind when Ralphie got his report back then he daydreamed his mom and teacher were dancing "You'll shoot your eye out! you'll shoot your eye out! I bet when the twins saw this episode there minds probably whirled with "You'll get your teeth pulled!, You'll get your teeth pulled!".
When she said they didn't take care of twins teeth as much as they do the tups it's a reflection on them . Then the going on about Mady's teeth was too much the plucking and pulling simulation how could you even joke about that happening knowing it would cause her a lot of pain if she had to get it done.I see favoritism in general for her sextuplets over her twins. They never take a trip to a place the twins want to go to (even though they are freebies lol) exam/ sesame place and the crayola factory, and the tups have toys all over the house and I never see the twins with any of there own and even Jon and kate have there "toys" all over.
She goes on and on about how her "babies" are growing up news flash your twins are still little girls my 9 year old is still a baby in my eyes and every chance I get I cuddle her I'd like to see that happen to the twins.

And sorry for writing a book lmao
but I don't see Hannah belittling Mady about her teeth the way she was right by Lexi's side with her blankie and dusty saying "I'm right here" and another bright side I'm glad Mady's taking the braces thing so well she still will have a beautiful smile

I haven't watch this show in over a month probably. Well, I started to watch a few episodes but I just can't do it anymore. It's annoying and so boring. I take care of my own child everyday and we have a great time usually. However, it's just not entertaining anymore watching somebody else's family. Maybe it's just this one. Just not doin it for me anymore.

Not to mention the horrible exploitation of these children.

Tangerine Tanya said...

I need to correct my comment. The long hair that hangs in Madeline's eye's are on her right side(our left) and Kate didn't say that the tups were three but did say that there should only be three flavors offered. When does Kate smile and say oh thank you that was so nice and kind of you? She has a halo with horns sticking out.

Why did TLC feel it was necessary to show Mady with that appliance in her mouth that spread her mouth in such an ugly way? She would be mortified if she saw how it made her look. The same with the films of her teeth. I'm sure the twins get enough teasing at school, without TLC giving them more to pick on them about. Even though it was at Mady's expense, Cara did at least look happier than she has lately. Someone actually said something nice to her. Too bad that doctor is sorely lacking in people skills. One other thing, it would be so nice if Joel was just once chosen to do something first.

The G kids should not be drinking fruit juice. Period. Any dentist will tell you it is as bad as pop. Orange juice is OK, but fruit juice is horrible for kids. When Kate said she gives the girls two fruit juices a day for school, I was shocked. And the tups have it at every meal. Kids should drink milk, water, and (sometimes) 100% pure orange juice.

Fruit juice will rot their teeth.

While I don't doubt this could be true, I really think Hannah was upset before the interview. Her face was red and tear-stained. Actually, my first reaction was, "Where on earth are you two all day?!", directed at KON. Do the kids only see them when they're in the basement doing couch interviews? How often are both of them at home with their kids? Their crappy parenting infuriates me. I do agree that had it been one of the other tups crying, they would have been shooed away to time out.

Kate, if those "outdated" (I've seen MUCH worse) books bother you so much, why not donate a new collection in your father-in-law's name? It would be a wonderful way to show your appreciation for the free care the whole family receives.

All I could stand was 5 minutes. What the heck!

I thought I would have the strength to see the show, after all the kids are so precious.

Kate's hair is a mess. The spikes in the back are disproportionate (sp) to the "swoop" in front.

She is strolling around in her bougie wardrobe and patent leather purse. I guess those are the benefits of pimping your children.

As soon as they show the new house the viewing audience is going to know about the Gosselins' greedy ways. I'm seeing some serious backlash. Their PR people are going to have a heck of a time explaining this away.

Poor Mady. Five minutes into the show and Kate is bagging on her. Kate must have been a bully when she was younger.

"Kate is white trash and we don't like her" - that is from DH as I begin to type this!

Kate has some serious role conflict issues; I have seen it time and time again where she acts as if she is the snotty impatient older sister, NOT the mother in this family.
She also seems to enjoy playing the schoolyard "bully" with her children; I would love to know why she has this indubitable need to compete with her children. Who or what is she competing for? The camera person? The imagined viewers at home? Before she got rid of all family and friends the level of jealousy she felt must have been overwhelming.
Kate's compulsive need to tell the camera "how much the dentist loves them" and "how close the orthodontists are to the Gosselins blah blah blah..." is a classic example of the extreme problem she has with interpersonal relationships. There are SO MANY people who "love the family", yet I wonder who was invited for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve celebrations. No one, I'll bet.
As for cherished little (?) Hannie - already Kate is setting the kids up for an us vs. them mentality for later on. It's actually funny to think of Kate and Hannie, the IN Crowd Cool Kidz, and the Unpopular Weirdos or Out Crowd, everyone else. How does a mother think like this? It's NUTS!
Yeah, she sat Hannah there for the couch interview as a big fat "neener neener neener" to those of us who have noticed it. Shine the light on you, Kate!
Why don't you grow up? You're SO last century.

Are we supposed to be impressed that Kate actually took 6 kids out all by herself? I highly doubt it. Jon was probably hiding in the van somewhere or out of camera range.

Having Hannah on her lap... Gee I wonder why. Perhaps it is to put her in a better mood which it did. Her and Jon slobering all over Hannah was nauseating. It was actually a little gross when she was sitting on Jon's lap. That was the happiest Kate looked in a long time having Hannie to herself and no other kids around.
Kate was such a movie star all dressed up in her bright yellow jacket walking into dentist's office.

No way was it only 6 months ago that the other episode of the tups going to the dentist. They were so little and could barely talk. It was at least a year ago. Liar Kate. So they were too busy or she was too exhausted to get them there every 6 months.

Of course all the kids looked immaculate for their dentist visit and matched. What a psycho Kate is. WHO CARES HOW THEY LOOK.

I'm surprised only one poster commented about Kate saying this dentist visit was the 6-month follow up to the last one that was filmed. The "Sextuplets' First Dentist Visit" was shown ages ago- they were only 3, and was filmed very early on in the series. Even if you looked at when it aired, that was like, 15 months ago, making it about a year and a half ago when it was actually filmed. Why would she say that so many times, when obviously anyone who has watched the show from the beginning KNOWS how old the kids are now, and KNOW how old they were when they went to the dentist for the first time?

To think about it- what have the sextuplets ever done that we DON'T know about? Pooping on the potty? Puking in their beds? Getting their eyes checked? Going on vacations every other month? Going to church? Sitting in time-out a million billion times? Check, check and CHECK.

I can't help but wonder what these kids do when the cameras aren't rolling, besides eat, sleep and breathe.

I haven't read Beth's book, but remember someone saying that Kate fesses up to her feelings for Hannah. The cat's out of the bag so why not just go for it no for it.

Did you all catch the part when Mady asked Kate what would happen when she got her braces on? Kate says she does not remember, it was so long ago..WT? How can you not remember Kate? How can you not be a guiding force in your daughters life? That would have been the time to think of her instead of yourself. You have been through it and you could have told her what to expect. Of course she would blame Jon. He's the one saddled with the sole responsibility of brushing all the kids' teeth. Julie (Jodi's sister) posted previously that *Kate didn't even know which toothbrush belonged to which kid*.

Jon is soley responsible for: brushing their teeth, bathing them, getting them ready for school in the morning (he did this even when he had a job to go to and *Kate* was the stay-at-home parent), playing with them . . . So *what* exactly does Kate do that could be described as parenting???

Thank you fellow posters for your comments and descriptions of this current episode. There was a 2 hour showing of 24 on, so I wasn't going to miss that for J&K+8.

I've often observed that the people who annoy me the most are just like me. I see in them the things in myself that I don't like. Mady takes after her mother quite a bit. Kate also had braces, so you'd think she'd have a bit more compassion.

I haven't read Beth's book, but remember someone saying that Kate fesses up to her feelings for Hannah. The cat's out of the bag so why not just go for it no for it.

"Kate, you deluded, self absorbed fool. You have no clue, do you?"

WHEN THE HECK ARE WE GOING TO SEE THEM IN THE KON COMPOUND?

-----------

Correct me if Im wrong but I think I remember seeing on TLCs website that next week is the All You Wanted to Know episode, and then the week after that they are taking the kids to see the property before they move in, I don't remember what it was called. Its not the actual move in but its better than nothing!

Speaking of Juicy Juice, I couldn't believe it in the book when Kate says that Musselman gave them a life supply of juice and applesauce when the tups were born. What better way to thank Musselman than to let Juicy Juice sponsor your show? I hope Juicy Juice did pull the plug, and I hope Musselman had a contigency that said "a lifetime supply or until you relentlessly advertise for Juicy Juice."

They wouldn't know loyalty or gratitude if it bit them on the yellow coat.

I think Kate feels the same way about her "hate the show" bloggers that they feel about her. The bloggers want to see her fail, and she wants to see them fail as well. It's giving her more fuel. She's going to make sure she's as successful as possible as a result. I hate to say it, but I can't blame her. It's human nature to want to "one up" your enemies. And when Jon said he's got secrets he isn't sharing, it had to be on purpose. He wants to get people talking and speculating about the secrets. Kate and Jon have an agenda now. They're not going down anytime soon. They've got a little empire now.

Regardless of the purpose of the blogs (eliminating child exploitation, concern for family members, etc), these blogs garner interest in the family. Don't get me wrong, I read the blogs and I think J&K are about as interesting as dog poo and about as intelligent as organic cabbage; but I do feel in a way that they support her and feed the fire. I wish I could stop reading them, but I can't.

Tangerine Tanya,
Good observation about the scene when Kate got mad at Collin and literally snatched the stuffed animal and quickly handed it to Muffy (Hannah) What favoritism!

Leah awakens early and climbs in bed with her parents. Hannah pitches a fit so must be held in order for Kon to complete their couch session. Alexis awakens in the night and disturbs the other children. Which child slept in the basement of Kon's 'old' house and will have her own room in the 'new' house because she is, according to her parents, 'The Disturber'?

The WORST example was after Collin had asked for "mango flavored toothpaste" (which they didn't have), and Kate said that she "bets" that the next time they go to the dentist, they WILL have the mango flavor. Yes Kate, I'm sure they will......because all the people & businesses in the world exist only to make you happy. God who does she think she is?!

-------

Actually I don't think she meant they would have it next time simply because he asked for it, I think she meant that they would have it next time because they have such an assortment of flavors, something like twelve.

I think this episode was good, I would rather watch all the kids at the dentist and ortho rather than watch Kate get a free vacation.

I agree that this should have been a private moment for the children, one that doesn't need to be shared even with siblings. Drinking piles of juice will cause cavities, as will as poor brushing habits. Having an overbite/underbite/crossbite, or poorly spaced teeth is not a child's fault! Even perfect dental hygiene will not necessarily result in straight teeth. Stop blaming Mady, J&K! The sextuplets are going to need braces because they had pacifiers for so long, don't drink from ordinary cups, and still have "chewies" (which I thought was something for a puppy only, but whatever). Cara may escape braces immediately, but for a really polished smile she'll probably have them later. Tarter buildup would not be a problem if they were getting their teeth scaled every 6 months and perhaps switched to a toothpaste that geared towards cavity and tarter prevention (as long as they're spitting it out, if not, they better stick with the edible kiddy kind.)

Anyways, Mady shouldn't worry, she's going to have a beautiful smile! I would have reassured and hugged my child and held her hand through the tough spots. Kate must have selective amnesia. I remember my braces and that was 10 years ago! Boo to Kate, stop being a bully!

Hi
I quit watching this show a long time ago simply for my health. So many times I would of liked to go into the TV and pull Kate out. And give her a time out.
I feel so sorry for those little kids. I dont know how Jen (the woman that interviews them) can even stand to be around Kate. Or to even not say anything to her. I could not handle that job.

Ava said...

It was kind of creepy to me to watch how Kate fawned all over Hannah in the interview chair. That is really the first time I've seen her kiss any of the kids. Then Job had her in his lap and was loving all over her. What was up with that? And why only her? I hop the other kids get special cuddling time with mom and dad.
It really seemed unprofessional for them to allow her to sit there during the interview an no on ther kids were allowed. Almost like they were hiding behind her from protection.

Maybe I am just wierd about teeth brushing but I think that a good rinsing is necessary to complete the tooth brushing thing.I dont think that J/K make the tups rinse. It grosses me out because it reminds me of washing dishes and NOT rinsing them and just putting them in the draining basket. Kinda gross dont you think?

vatechhokie said...

Kate is such a classic bully. Insecure and probably bullied herself at some time. She bullies her husband, boys and Mady. I don't get it; if your home isn't your safe place, where is?
Even with Kate's dazzling smile, I couldn't believe she had braces, her center line is drastically off.
My kids had palate expanders (appliances in the roof of their mouths) to correct cross bites at 7and 8 instead of full braces twice; which Mady will certainly have. I guess she'll have them at 8 and again at 12 or 13. Kate was so unsupportive and the whole dentist visit was hideous. She turns everything into being about her.

zoey said...

i actually think its gross that Jon and Kate brush the kids teeth for them still.
they are 4. they should have been taught. I would understand if J&K went in after to brush missed spots etc. but they should be flossing and brushing on their own.

Colgate Smiles said...

I found it odd how Jon was picking through Hannah's hair near the end of the show. It was like he was a monkey looking for bugs.

I also think it's gross to brush your teeth without rinsing. There is kids toothpaste without fluoride that you don't need to brush out. Perhaps this is what they are using. But it's really for toddlers/babies who can't understand rinsing and spitting. These kids are old enough for real toothpaste and rinsing and spitting.

Poor Mady! How utterly embarrassing for her. I cannot believe how KON was saying such awful things about her teeth. It was just so sad to listen to them say those things.

The first visit to the dentist show was on earlier yesterday, and, when Mady was getting her filling, the dentist asked her about school. She said that she just finished kindergarten. Um...they are now in second grade, so how are we supposed to believe that this next visit was only six months later?

Tonights episode shouldve been called "Kate! It's all about me me me and me"..
Jon was so quiet on the couch,Hannah was the only one out of 8 kids that was allowed in there? Was Kate holding her to conceal a growing belly? As when Hannah wasnt on her lap, Kate had her arms across as if to hide something. Who is Kate to be telling the employees as the dentist they need to upgrade their books. Well Kate with all the freebies you have given why dont you spare some new books then Queenie?????? I like how the lady repsonded to Kate about the 8 dental chairs that 'yes we did that JUST for you'.
Oh poor Kate, im so sad, you never got sang to when your braces came off. You didnt get the same fun dental treatment as an adult that your beautiful kids are getting! Oh lordy be, how are you going to survive? You just cant have that now can you? Your kids being treated better than you? What are you, a child or an adult?????? Get over yourself please!

Firefly said...

I couldn't finish watching this episode. I think what really did it for me was when Kate, Mady, and Cara were sitting down as the woman was going over their dental x-rays. Kate kept looking at the camera, laughing, and giving this smug, arrogant look.

And I truly hated when Kate took the tups to the dentist and told her she needed to update her books because Pluto is no longer a planet. The way she said it was so rude! Who does that? She sat there acting so dignified, like "I'm Kate Gosselin, you must all do exactly what I want, because I'm a celebrity, and without me you'd be nothing." She is the textbook narcissist. (Believe me, I grew up with a narcissist parent, so I can see the signs right off the bat.)

The only reason I am going to continue watching is to see how TLC handles showing the move into the new house.

I also felt it was extremely obvious that Hannah is the favorite, due to the fact that Jon and Kate were cuddling with her and making little kisses on her face. I wish they would give some of that attention to the other tups.

When will TLC and others wake up and see that Jon and Kate are taking advantage of people and all the free stuff they are getting? They have gone way too far. And the most irritating thing is that Kate is sitting in her million dollar home, laughing her little head off. She knows she's gotten away with all this. But the problem with Kate, and her ultimate downfall, is her greed and selfishness. She always wants more. I know she's unhappy and thinks getting things means she'll be happy, but she's in for a huge disappointment. You need to be happy on the inside first. I think Kate has some bigger issues to deal with before she can be truly be at peace.

Kris said...

I've been reading the other posters' comments about not rinsing the kid's mouths after brushing their teeth. I'm not a "Pro-Gosselin" or an "Anti-Gosselin" person, but I have a question for everyone. Why do you think that just because something isn't shown being done that it isn't being done? (As in rinsing after brushing isn't shown so it isn't being done?) You can't believe all that is presented on TV as pure fact, and what is shown to us is so edited---- please remember that when making comments about the kids!

I'm an asst in an ortho office. Palatal expanders are to correct posterior x-bite (where the lower back teeth are farther toward the cheek than the upper back teeth, which is backwards of how it should be). Mady has an anterior x-bite (her one upper central incisor is behind her lower front teeth). For that she'll need an appliance that moves that tooth forward and/or the lower one(s) back. There will be some kind of a platform that keeps her uppers and lowers apart just enough because the appliance has to jump the upper tooth past the lowers.causes the crossover.

I'm hoping that a lot of what people view as damage control really isn't. And that Jon and Kate really aren't doing things to stir up controversy or annoy the bloggers. I think if they are, they had better be careful. It's kind of a sad and reckless way to live your life. Doing things just to get under people's skin or as some type of retaliation. They should be more concerned with raising and caring for their family, then with prolonging their 15 minutes of fame.

On another note, I was thinking about their schedule. If they are filming 4 days a week, doing book signings and then doing speaking engagements on the weekends, it doesn't leave a lot of quality family down time. Kate seems very wrapped up in all the self-promotion and has lost sight of why she said they started the show in the first place. Does it really help the children to be gone more than you have to be? It's not about working and being absent in trying to provide the necessities. It's more about being gone to provide means for an excessive lifestyle. Kate's priorities seem to be quite messed up.

Poor Joel!!
---Poor Mady, again, it's all been said. I would like to agree with and emphasize that Mady will be teased alot at school about this episode..That poor sweet little girl!
---I can't wait for Mady to have her teeth fixed and have her beautiful smile. By then she will be taller and more beautiful than the others. With that and her sassy attitude, it will be quite a book tour as she peddles her book about their "secrets".
---Kate's hair looks like my Uncle Larry's comb over.

The most interesting part of last night's show was the show that followed. The first 5 minutes was a diatribe about how much Kate hates "icky boys" and how much better the girls are than the boys!! Watch it! It;s the one where Jon takes the boys golfing.

I totally agree! There's NO way she took them to the dentist herself! The woman can't even gas up her own vehicle. Do you really think she's going to drag 6 kids to an appointment ALL ALONE?

Nice of Kate to throw her daughter Mady under the bus last night too. Could she possibly have degraded or humiliated her more? Nice of Jon to put a stop to it too. He just sat there like the spineless tool that he is cuddling with The Chose One.

I have been a long time reader of this blog and wasn't to happy with Kate, ever, but this episode just pushed me over the edge.I was sooo mad at the way that Kate claimed that Mady was going to need "major" work. It was detremined at the age of 4 that I was going to need MAJOR work done. with out it I wouldn't be able to speak or eat right. I have an extreme overcrowdeding problem because I have a small jaw. I have had 10 extractions, part of my gum removed, a tooth that was dead, my wisdom teeth taken out of my gums before they where even teeth and an implant all before the age of 18. I also had braces for 3 1/2 years. All the surgries started at around Mady's age and today, I still see my oral suregeon at least once a year. The thing that kept me going is my wonderful mother, always there to comfort and make me feel better. I hated my smile but never once did my mother say anything mean. She always told me, you are the most beautiful girl in the world and thats all that matters. Its sad that Mady will never have that, because she is a beautiful little girl and needs that love when she is going through a rought patch

Enough with the Hannah favoritism already. How sad that Hannah threw a fit and got to go downstairs with Mommy and Daddy and get smothered with love and attention but if one of the boys did the same thing they would be sent to time out. I noticed while Hannah was being fawned over how chunky she is. Her legs and belly are really big compared to the rest of the kids. I wonder if Kate doesn't give her extra treats while she is "helping" in the kitchen. Something is going on there for her to be that much bigger than the other kids while eating identical meals. I think Alexis and Leah will be fine even without being the favorite, they both have a natural self confidence that Hannah doesn't have. And Alexis and Leah are the prettiest of the kids which sadly in our society will get them more attention once they are out in the world. The boys are who I worry about most. I rarely see them get any love and positive attention. All I hear is Kate talk about how yucky they are. :( I hope their preschool teachers realize how special they are and give them lots of positive praise while they are with them.

The one thing that burns me about this show is how Kate has no problem discussing her children's dental or medical problems.

JenTru, your recap was outstanding - you have a future in this business! :)

So many, many issues (in no particular order):

Hannah's inclusion in the interview: can you picture the other seven upstairs - odds are pretty good at least one other child was crying to come down after they caved in to Hannah. Alternately, if none of the seven reacted b/c they knew they had no chance of being included that's really sad too.

Birth order: I 'only' have 3 singletons, so moms of multiples, please let me know if I'm missing something - what in the heck is the big deal about Cara being 'older' than Maddie!?! I understand when multiples themselves throw that fact around as a way to bug their sibling(s), but why on earth would a mother make such a big deal out of it? It just seems so childish - as if Cara being born 2 minutes before Maddie means she's acquired more life experience and can handle being the first in the orthodontist chair. It reminds me of the business of Kate having a 'special bond' with Hannah b/c she held her first. Is that really something to base a lifetime of child preference on? Which brings me to...

Walking into the dentist: All of the kids are talking, but poor Collin bears the brunt of Kate's anger and gets his stuffed animal ripped out of his hands and given to a smug Hannah. Nice.

The tups in the chairs: Throughout the entire time the tups were being worked on, Kate is hanging out far behind them leaning against the doorway. WTH!?! I realize she cannot provide one-on-one support to four kids at once, but why on earth would she at least not be standing where they could all see her!?! It was like she was observing someone else's kids!

Brushing the tups: Kate is shown brushing the tups with an intensity most people save for cleaning their bathtub. I had a dentist tell me a long time ago that vigorous brushing is very bad for the gums (i.e., don't hold your toothbrush with a death grip while brushing) - shouldn't at least Jon know that given that his father was a dentist?

Joel: Ah, Joel. What a sweetie - I could eat him up. KON, on the other hand, took yet another opportunity to mock/belittle him re: his asking for mango toothpaste (how cute!) by calling him a 'nut ball'. Not only is it so obviously cruel to call him names on national TV, but that particluar one - I'm sure that one will come back to haunt him at school someday.

Kate's braces: For those of you who have wondered why she's using Invisalign (sp?) when she already had braces, there's your answer - they took her braces off before they were ready.

Kate & her disgusting gum chewing: Really Kate, at the orthodontist? Where your daughters are supposed to be learning good dental habits? Nevermind the fact that it's repulsive to watch. On the plus side, it distracts me from the train wreck on the top of her head.

OK, I'm done. Not really, but I've run out of steam - plus the rest of you have already covered a lot of other things that ticked me off!

Well, I currently have invisaline and if she really has them there is no way she is chewing gum. You have to wear them on average 22 hours a day and since they are a plastic retainer you can't chew gum, in fact all you can have with them in is water.

I just wanted to put that out there because she can't have both. Its one or the other, just like with regular braces.

Kate doesn't seem to have fans among the editors based on what they show, i.e. her terrible, inappropriate comment to the dentist about "needing" to update the planet book. Here is a dentist who is going to take care of 6 kids, probably for free, and Kate's first comment of the day to her is a criticism. If Kate wonders why people loathe her, she should refer back to this single example.

Kate and Jon have yet to understand that people who help them don't necessarily love them and their children. Contrary to J&K's constant, "They love us, they love us!" the two of them have not done the world a favor by producing 8 often crying, upset children.

Talking about Mady on the couch in front of Hannah is some of the worst parenting I have ever seen. Hannah's delight and smiles at her parents' criticism and making fun of Mady was nauseating. Kate and Jon honestly believe that they are qualified to give parenting advice?

I had to truly laugh out loud at a dentist office that hypes sugar at ever turn - candy or bubblegum flavored rinse, flouride, novacaine, and GLOVES - everything sweet and candy smelling so that the kids will like coming to the dentist! And afterward send the kids out and tell them to limit sugar in order to take care of their teeth. That office was way over the top in trying to be kid friendly. I expected a clown car to roll in and scary clowns to jump out. Reminded me of an arrogant pediatrician I took my kids to for a short period of time who would give them a blown up balloon at the end of each visit with the somber warning to me, "Now don't let them alone with this balloon because if it pops they could strangle on a piece of it." And you're giving them the balloon because ...?

I flipped back during the commercial of another program to see Hannie gyrating on her mother's lap, was thoroughly disgusted again, and went back to watching another show.

FWIW, I am a major phobic about the dentist. I hate going and will think of whatever means necessary to keep from going. I know it's not right that I do this, but I really can't stand it. The last time I went, I was dressed in yoga pants and some crappy top because the dentist pretty much drugged me up before working on me, and they advised that I dress comfortably in case of panic attack, vomiting, etc.

I had braces as a teenager; let's just say that it was that whole experience that caused me to hate the dental profession. Ever had a "dry socket"? I had four at once.

Just a note about the yellow coat---I saw it in the window at Talbots. I wanted to stop in and check the after Christmas sales anyway so I went in and casually mentioned the coat and how it was similar. I was quickly corrected in that the coat is THE ONE but, as non sponsers of the show, Talbots could not be credited. They are often contacted, much like Gymboree, to dress Kate and it is considered "clothing allowance" that TLC pays for. I do know that Gymboree is the choice of Kate for the kids and that all clothing from them is paid for by TLC as part of the children's clothing allowance. That info was given to me right from our Gymbo manager (whom I'm actually a friend of so please don't think I go store to store asking about Gosselin clothing-except for the yellow coat-clearly I snooped on that one!). We live just a few miles from the old KON compound in Elizabeth town so there have been sightings from my friends and friends of friends. My favorite is the story of Kate in the Park City mall with her assistant--she barked out the list of Gymboree items that were stored in her Blackberry while the asst. and the store manager ran around like chickens with their heads cut off.
Sorry-I know we're commenting on the dentist show last night but, I just had to add in the jacket sighting because I could not believe this woman with 6 kids walks into the dentist wearing the coat, movie star sunglasses, patent leather bag a la Jessica Simpson, high heeled open toe shoes (which later got switched to weird closed toe ones) and head to toe ensemble. Kate used to whole heartedly admit she has no style so to suddenly ditch the dangly seashell earrings, tshirts and flipflops is truly not subtle.
Sorry-just had to have a fashion rant for a minute. That annoyed me as much as Muffy on the lap!

Kate is a classic bully - picking on those weaker than she is, the kids and Jon-boy. I hope she gets the same treatment that most bullies eventually get.

I happen to be a lawyer who works just outside of DC and I have worn Talbots clothing for more years than I care to think about. They have great suits that don't cost too much and all the accessories right there in the store. Good for a non-shopper like me. Now I will be looking elsewhere because that identification of the damn yellow coat has ruined it for me. Katie Irene likes Talbots? Do not want to be at all like her and I certainly hope -- and will try to find out -- that Talbots who has a lot of my money is not giving this witch free clothing. If they are and they admit that they are, I will find somewhere else to shop.

So I hope that anyone who visits this website that works for a sponsor of this obnoxious and expoloitative show will get this word to the wise. We find out who you are, we no longer use your products.

Melissa, very true. I guess the point I was also trying to make which I got off track of was...this is just another proof that J&K is no longer a reality show. In reality, she would still have on the tshirt (probably stained) and happily in the flip flops. I realize many of us moms do fix ourselves up a little when we have to go to a scheduled appt. But REALITY typically is not a mother of 8 with perfectly coiffed (although awful) hair, high heels, and a total of about $500 in one outfit alone-just for the dentist.

I long for the first episode--she was still hateful back then but at least she was real-that's why I used to be a fan. Now she is a hateful plastic version of herself with a TLC credit card.

About the invisaline. In an earlier couch interview Kate was holding and fiddling around with what looked like a invisaline.

About Kate's favoritism towards Hannah. Hannah was the only tup that was allowed in Kate's bed on the mothers day eppi and when Aaiden was crying for Jon he got sent to his bed but when Hannah was crying for Jon Kate made a phone call to Jon's job ( when he had one) so Hannah could talk to him.The list goes awn and awn.

pjk thanks for the tutorial of Mythbusters but my statement still stands about Kate. No matter how you "glam" her up, she is and always will be crap! :)

Actually, I think her coat is fabulous...but I wouldn't ever get it in yellow. Black, a lovely warm brown, a heathered green? Oh, yeah.

I will 'fess up to loving the cut of that coat.

I guess the only saving grace is that, according to my friend at Gymboree, the clothes ARE paid for, but by TLC. So Gymbo does get their $$- but the clothes are given to the kids to wear and keep, just like Talbots (and rumors of Ann Taylor, as well)for Kate and Abercrombie for Jon. KON still doesn't pay a penny, though.

If they were outright free you would see the product and brand names on the episodes (like we used to see Gap on their little sweatshirts and like the Juicy Juice.) And remember way back when they went to Sam's Club and spent over a thousand dollars? Did you see how they splashed the Sam's Club sign on the screen? That's because that $1000 bill was considered null and void as advertising for Sam's. Now I shop at BJ's just because of that! Everything and anything is supplied by the TLC trust fund, it seems!

"I think it is obvious that Kate was kidding about the book. Sure, what she was saying was true (about Pluto), but seriously, you could tell that she was just being silly/sarcastic."

This is the exact point people are trying to make about Kate. Sarcasm, a low form of humor that she and Jon depend on in order to communicate their aggression and unhappiness, is usually very hurtful to those on the receiving end. The little kids really don't know the difference between sarcastic and serious comments but they are learning to mimic that kind of bullying behavior. Mady has gotten very adept at using sarcasm right back at her parents.

For an interesting commentary on how sarcasm is considered bullying check out NPR's recent This American Life segment on how one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. It was an interesting study with the end shot being how the researcher learned that is own teasing and sarcasm was actually interpreted as bullying.

If I had gone out of my way to "accommodate" Kate Gosselin's 6 kids and her first comment to me was I needed to change a book in my waiting room (having books for kids in a waiting room is actually generous since it really is the parents' responsibility to bring entertainment for their kids in any kid of waiting situation) I'd be annoyed. On the other hand, it seemed like the dentist was just as eager to be on television as Jon and Kate. Free advertising for an over the top pediatric dental clinic.

Kate can shop wherever she pleases but in my opinion, you can't polish a terd. :)

Actually Melissa you can polish a terd. It's been done in MYTHBUSTERS. But I do agree with you that Kate is a terd.

I concede.... you CAN polish a terd BUT you can't polish Kate... :)

I bow out gracefully! :)

(obviously I don't watch MythBusters). :)

Did she really say Hannah's nickname was Muffy? Muffy?

Why is TLC giving Jon, Kate and the kids a clothing allowance now? Reality tv, huh? Your average coupon clipping, brown bagging, have to budget family, huh? Yeah right. The fact that Jon and Kate both stay at home and live such an excessive lifestyle and yet are tapped to be spokespeople pandering to the average American family is a joke.

At the rate of their spending and other TLC allowances, I imagine that the show is getting more and more expensive to produce. I'm sure it still doesn't compare to what TLC is making from advertisers though. I guess we all know what the cost of the Gosselin children's privacy is.

I would love to see what would have happened if little Joel would have pitched a fit. Would Kate have held him and allowed him to sit on HER lap during the interview? Would she have spoken about how special he was?

Yep--Muffy-Kate said it in the beginning but I was folding laundry while trying to get a 3 year old back to bed (like NORMAL mothers-now that's reality!) so I had it on for the first few minutes as background noise (until I sat down and saw the fashion issues-see previous comments). I'm not sure why they call her that-I didn't catch it.

KJ0525 made a interesting obseravtion. She/he said that during the last dentist segment Mady said that she had just finished kindergarden and yet during the next dentist visit Cara/ Mady are in the 2nd grade.
The math just doesnt work Kate.

Kate's new recipe will be called:

MONEY MUNCH!

Eh, maybe you can polish a turd--but it just looks like a polished turd.

Virginia--Re not buying Talbot's anymore. Good for you!

After struggling to stay awake to watch the entire episode (and channel surfing every time a commercial came on), I can hereby state, with absolute conviction, that Jon and Kate are two of the most boring people on Earth...which, by the way, IS still a planet...

I absolutely do not know fashion, but I can say when I watched this episode (and I haven't watched in quite awhile) I was a bit taken aback at how 'fashionable' this supposedly 'real' mom of 8 looked. Perhaps there are some moms out there who look fantastic, I have seen some, don't know how they do it and I'm sure $$$ has a lot to do with it, but okay.

But Kate used to look like a real mom. She was always a hag, but she looked real, like everyone else. Whatever it is she's got going on now, it is NOT real and I have no idea why companies want her to try and speak to 'regular' people. High heels, designer jeans, and that very high maintenance hair to schlep 6 little kids to the dentist. No. Some women have always been that way maybe, but not Kate. It's all cha-ching and it is ridiculous.
