accumulated? or been given?
hmmmmm.

I wonder what percentage they actually bought, with their own pre-free crap every day money.

NOT watching KON 2 weeks in a row
DWTS final competition is great.
Folks, change the channel away from TLC, it is fun to read the comments and recaps.

Anonymous said...

Kate said she misses Jon's dad. It is sad that she doesn't miss her own parents.

ashley said...

Wow, 10 minutes in and Im already wondering why Im watching. I should just turn it off now......but I probably wont.

Anonymous said...

I saw tons of toys loaded onto that truck. And Jon was getting rid of a few sentimental items from his father. Did anyone see any of Kate's items loaded up to be sold???

ashley said...

What the heck! Carla is there! Obvious damage control.

Anonymous said...

Carla is in this show! I thought she did not have contact w/ her!!

Anonymous said...

Carla is back !!!

Anonymous said...

Well it's looking to me they should have just plain out donated the item. This seems to be too stressful for them!

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why Kon kept saying they wanted the kids to be there so they knew it was for the sick kids. No way they saw that. All they saw were strangers leaving with their toys.

Anonymous said...

Just in case you missed the 800 times she mentioned it, Kate is irritated.

ashley said...

Funny for KON that nobody showed up yet. (Sucky for the Pediatric Cancer research though)

Anonymous said...

My blood pressure is going through the roof...the church is nice enough to let them have this sale and she is complaining that no one is there at 8am on a weekend to buy some "memorabelia"...who does she think she is, Elvis?

Anonymous said...

OMG, all Kate has done is bitch and moan. Is there anything that will make her happy? As a cancer survivor, I know it is a great cause, but God, I can't stand watching Kate. Carla is running around working and Kate does nothing but complain!

Anonymous said...

They could have donated the toys to a childrens hospital.

Anonymous said...

I had heard that Carla had stuck around as their paid yard person but not on camera. I guess working the yard sale counts as yard work? (I haven't seen the episode yet so I'm truly guessing.)

Anonymous said...

How dare someone else have a yard sale the same day. (cough) sarcasm

Anonymous said...

Who buys used potties??

Anonymous said...

Refresh my memory...who is Carla? I remember the name being mentioned, but how is she connected to the family? Former helper? Thanks :)

Anonymous said...

Geez, Kate could not even get off the phone and look the customer in the eye and say thanks. so rude

Anonymous said...

She is irritated and irritated. What was she going to do with it all the stuff that didn't sell? Donate it maybe?

Anonymous said...

"This is going to make me very angry, what am I going to to with this stuff?"

Boy, that says it all does it not? It is always all about Kate. Not boy if no one shows up we won't raise any money for pediatric cancer. Oh no it is where am I going to put this stuff if no one buys it. She really needs a script to make her believable.

Anonymous said...

10 minutes in & the "shrew" is on
a roll. I guess Kate's not used to
being up early like us "normal folk". Here's a thought, how about
just donating all that stuff you were given for free to local charities that could use it & then just writing a check from your own
checkbook.They should remember "to whom much is given-much is expected.

I bought a used potty at a yard sale. I brought it home and cleaned it very well with bleach. What's wrong with that ?

Uh, can we say damage control? Mady was upset that the ornaments from "Poppy" were for sale, and Kate that Poppy gave them a lot of things. Oh, and they leave "dustelies" everywhere. Then she gives in and lets Mady take them off the table. Cut to the couch where Jon praises Saint Kate for giving the ornaments back. Puh-leeeze...does anybody buy this "nice Kate"?

Anonymous said...

wow can you say "DAMAGE CONTROL"??
kate says she has a yard sale every year...but they sure have accumulated a LOT of stuff in just a year...hmmmm.
well at least the procedes are going to a great cause, finally!!

Anonymous said...

were the ballet slipper ornaments from "Poppy", meaning jon's dad? I can't believe if they were, that K&J would get rid of them because they leave glitter on the floor. Seriously? The girls want a memory and that would be taken from them because of glitter. I am sick to my stomach. Or as Kate would say, I'm irritated!

Hober said...

If they have a yard sale every year, how come they are selling things from 4 years ago?

i heart my hubby said...

So sad about the ballerina ornaments...Kate is a heartless bitch.

Anonymous said...

Wow, I,m surprised TLC did'nt advertise this yard sale for two weeks like they did the 'renewal
ceremony"

Anonymous said...

Holy damage control batman! I wonder how much they had to pay Carla to show up?!?!

Kate is even more annoying than ever.
Could she complain any more?

How many times could they say that they're donating..."giving back"... how much clothing has she sold to consignment stores that was a freebie for them. What a crock. This whole episode is sickeningly full of damage control, it's very hard to watch.

Anonymous said...

HAHA kate just had the nerve to say "I hate touching money"...uh...not from what WE'VE seen, kate!!

clparsons212 said...

What got me most about this episode is that Mady wanted to keep the ballet shoes her "poppy" got her and Kate wasn't going to let her because they make a mess. For the love of GOD! that's what they make vacuums for. Let Jon clean them up since she clearly thinks he does nothing. The woman might has well of spit on poppy's grave. Until reading this blog site I never realized the extent to which Kate doesn't interact with her children. Jon is the lover. I feel so bad for him! I have to wonder off camera is Kate is affectionate what so ever. I give her credit for trying to teach her children lessons on charity and good works but after reading the blog about the girls day out---she cuts her children up. Maybe she should teach them self worth first.

Anonymous said...

Wow, was that seriously it? What an incredibly boring episode! I don't like the drama and snarkiness of some of the other episodes, but this one wasn't even worth airing. I've had more fun driving around to local yard sales on Saturday mornings (which isn't much fun to me, by the way). Time to pull the plug, IMO.

Oh, and the following episode is more of the kids sitting on the toilet. Nice.

I have been torn about how I feel about this show for awhile now. I loved it when it 1st started. But some things now are so wrong. But the ballerina ornaments were just heartbreaking. I cannot give anything away that i got from family that have passed away. That was pretty mean on Kate's part.

I realized this episode was so boring because...the kids were hardly in it. That's been the goal of this blog, so...great! Now we see how boring things are when it's just Jon and Kate...take this off the air! There's nothing left!

Well its over.... I guess, didnt really seem like a whole show though IMO. Its getting kinda lame, and next week we get to see the promotion for the book.........The book came out ages ago though.

Hey The family was actually in their homestate!! Wow what a concept. Did anyone see that Jon was actually trying to stand up to Kate? I kinda chuckled!!

What charitable people! Hmm, where did the money go to? I think they forgot to say. If you have to tell people you are, then you aren't.

The diva explosion about the tables not being there was priceless. Just goes to show that the Hollywood couple is no longer able to even try doing normal things. So beneath them!

Who was she speaking with on her cell phone? Does she have friends?

Anonymous said...

I bet theyre getting rid of so much stuff so their big move to the new house is easier...ya think??
UGH!

Anonymous said...

I thought last year they participated in a neighborhood wide yard sale. Maybe the neighbors didn't want the filming as it might interfere with the rest of the neighbors? Maybe the film crew didn't have room at the house? Too funny to say they've accumulated so much in four years as if they haven't been cleaning out when they moved and having yearly sales and regular consignment store trips.

I gotta tell ya, I watched tonight for the first time in a month because I'm doing the recap. I found that I kept reaching for the remote because of my natural impulse to change the channel from things I find idiotic.

This is my first post re: J&K+8. I used to love watching this show and all of the craziness and pandemonium that having eight kids can bring. However, the last several episodes (including the "wedding event") have been utterly uninteresting and truly painful to watch. The episode about the yard sale was the worst yet. I have tried to remain optimistic when it comes to Kate and all of her oddness, but she was truly ungrateful, mean-spirited, and rude to Carla, Jon, and the guests. For the kids sake (and ours), I hope this is the final season.

I was a little surprised when Jon was so willing to sell his golf bag that his dad gave him, he does have 3 sons and I am sure one will be a golfer. But the ballerina slippers ornaments being sold just broke my heart. I am glad that the girls saw them before they were sold. I wonder how many of Poppy's things were sold. Kate is just heartless and cold. She says she misses Jon's dad, then sells anything he gave them. cold, selfish, self-centered, B***H!

So the trickle of people at the yard sale is due to it's poor advertisement...uh no...perhaps it's because of the way Kon has alienated their community. Even a radio announcement didn't seem to help.

I just find it so amusing that they have the audacity to pat themselves on the back for this stunt. They sold free items. The only thing donated by them was their time - and even that was paid for courtesy of TLC. Oh - and possibly the beverages from craft services and their posed pictures.

I wonder if they chenged their will since they no longer have contact with any family or friends.........

Kate sure knows how to turn what could of been a great day filled with giving and kindness, into a diaster. She never fails she made that whole day about herself. I did not see her lift a finger to help unload the truck. She should of stayed home with the kids. Jon and Carla should of tended to the yard sale by themselves. She is so ungrateful and fake. She could of cared less where the proceeds from the sale went it was all for the viewers. Viewers I hope you are happy for helping make these childrens lives miserable. Jon and Kate are not the ones who keep their children on tv. The viewers are keeping these children working and we must break free of our obsession of watching these children lives be ruined before our very eyes. Think about it. Everytime you comment on how cute these kids are.

Anonymous said...

Did anyone see her taking pictures with people for money? It's just plain sad. At least she didn't have the kids in it, although she did say pictures with the family.

Anonymous said...

I don't see what the big deal is about Jon and Kate having the sale. Does it really matter whether or not the toys were donated or sold to Jon and Kate in the first place? In the end, a lot money was raised for cancer research.

Anonymous said...

Did you notice when Kate called the radio station to ask them to promote the sale, she said, "This is KATE, by the way." Then on the couch 2 seconds later, she says she absolutely wasn't promoting the show...she was just trying to get people to come out. Uh, what's the point in name-dropping if you aren't using your "celebrity" to your advantage? I wouldn't have been annoyed if she had admitted to using her name to promote it...but I can't stand the dishonesty!!!

Anonymous said...

I like the comment about donating a dollar when Kate gets irritated on the show. TLC needs to have a "Irritated" counter on each show from now on and then allow people to donate money for charity.

Wendy Bird said...

I am watching the boys' potty training episode.

The kids are at Aunt Jodi's and Mady is playing with Benny. Kon says how kind and loving she is toward him and how much she loves him.

I bet Mady misses that baby so much. That poor little girl. Those poor children. How very sad.

Kate left the kids at Aunt Jodi's every Friday morning so that they would be worn out and would take a three hour nap to give her a break! A break from what? The kids were gone all morning!

Kate has NO heart or soul. Selling ornaments that "Poppy" had given them because glitter came off of them. Mady was really upset about that and I can see why. Mady has a heart and soul. Why didn't Jon speak up and say something. After all is was his Dad. He could say something like "let Mady keep them and I'll clean up the glitter." Jon is a coward. The ornament was ballerina slippers from Jon's Dad who has passed on. I'm sure Jon's Dad is looking down at Kate and shakeing his head. Kate has no feelings at all. She is a cold fish.

$1106 raised for charity
$75,000 paid to KON by TLC (just for showing up).

It would have been nice if they not only handed over their yard sale money but also their TLC money! Come on KON... just from one episode! You could do it!

Carla was BACK, But Carla was speechless. I wonder if there is a deal that Carla was on the show but she could not have a speaking part? Carla is a good friend to get up that early and help KON set up for the yard sale or she was PAID well.

THE ORNAMENTS. Kate did say Poppy gave them a lot of ornaments she was only selling the ones that dropped glitter all over the place.
What mother has not gotten rid of something that makes a mess or is really noisy?

Anonymous said...

Did anyone notice that they were "selling" photos with the family for a donation? I'm sure that's why they had to have the kids there. Kate posed for a picture then yelled, "make a donation at the bucket at the end of the table it will make us happy". Maybe it will make them happy because they are not donating this at all or they're trying to clean up the mess they've made.

Also Mady and Cara said they got to keep the money they made from their drink stand in scene but on the interview couch they said they donated it and one of them whispered (it was over the next scene) that it made mommy and daddy happy but it was in the saddest little voice.

I’ve got an idea Kate, why not actually try and make your kids happy instead of demanding everyone to make you happy.

And didn't she say something rude on the couch after that? Something sarcastic like, "We don't need your help promoting our show." Yeah we got that Kate, your kids do that all by themselves...and for FREE.

The cause was a great one. I would have liked to have seen these things go to needy people rather than people getting a good deal on things. And then proceeds of what they made from the show to go the charity.

A lot of unfortunate families with young children could have used the clothing and such.

Actually, I agree with other posters. I mean I give away things all the time but no reason to have had this all on TV. Not sure who it helped besides the G's, besides the 1K, of course.

What keeps the show on the air is the money from the advertisers. That is driven by their Nielsen ratings. Blogs have nothing to do with TLC keeping this on the air. It's either making money for them or it isn't. When they don't make enough on it, they'll cancel it.

michelle said...

How long ago was this episode filmed? Is Carla still around now?
So...where was Beth and Jodi? if Kate now has Carla back into their lives.

The toys, and were their clothes?, should just have been donated to the peds hospital and to needy families.

Kate and Jon said that what was left they took to Goodwill. A right off for their taxes.

Anonymous said...

I heard Kate say to Mady that Poppy had given them lots of ornaments. The ballet slippers were not the only ornament they had from him. When Mady said she wanted them, Kate agreed. I don't see the heartbreak.

Anonymous said...

I don't know who Carla is. Can someone please bring me up to speed? Thanks.

BTW, I live fairly near KON, and I'm glad they moved. I wish they'd moved further. They give Pennsylvania a bad name.

Anonymous said...

It's pretty obvious that they were cleaning out almost the entire house in order to make the move easier! They may have moved already! Who knows! They tape these shows awhile in advance! Wouldn't surprise me if they are already in their new mansion!!! Did you notice that they didn't show the inside of the house hardly at all? Probably because everything is packed up in boxes!

Anonymous said...

I live in the same town as KON DID and this is the first, well except for the advertisements for this episode, I even heard of them having this yard sale. It was right off the main highway... I guess their advertisement for the yard sale was messed up like the signs stating sales went to charity. The signs were so plain they had to have them made up at a print shop?? They could have made them from their own computer! Kate did not even care what she made off of the items since I am guessing she was not pocketing any of the money. Cancer research could have made more money if she would have put a little more thought into pricing. She is so anal retentive on everything else!

Anonymous said...

How could they possibly have yard sales every year when they had more stuff than ever to sell this time? Getting cleaned out for the big move? HAha....

Anonymous said...

What I noticed most about Katie Irene was her extremely negative attitude and irritated-ness about everything to do with this CHARITY event...she complained about absolutely everything! The rented tables, the typo on her signs, the fact that the sale wasn't promoted to her expectations, etc, etc...think back a bit, Katie Irene, to when you and your family were the recipients of many a donated item...this was your choice and chance to give back and you totally ruined it with your horrendously horrendous attitude, way to be a role model for your kids...and you barely lifted a finger to help Jon and Carla unload the truck(so good to see Carla back on the show) As bad as the vacation/travel episodes have been, I find this one to be even worse...

HOW do you know that KON gets paid $75,000? is that per episode? Just curious, that sounds like a lot of money.

Anonymous said...

Even though this episode was another exhaustingly boring one, at least it wasn't another all expense paid trip. It was good that they donated the money they raised. They would have looked like jerks if they didn't though, considering a lot of the stuff they were selling was donated to them. You would think that Kate would look at herself on tv and really try to change her horrible attitude. She wouldn't want her children to behave like she does.

This show was DAMAGE CONTROL big-time. Is it me or is Kate getting worse? Maybe it was because she HAD to get up early, and let's all remember, she's not a morning person!

Selling a Christmas ornament from Jon's deceased dad because it got glitter all over. How sad. I'm glad to see that Mady stuck up for herself. I'm sure that Mady will keep that ornament in a special place, and she will keep it forever. My main point about the glitter Christmas ornament, is that Kate only has to put up with at Christmas time. It's not like she has to deal with it every day. What is wrong with that woman?

Anonymous said...

I hate going to a yard sale and the people are too LAZY to price their stuff. i usually leave.

Guess Kon did not have time to price their stuff or make those plain boring signs that they hired a sign company to print. Guess they were too busy to even check the proofs before printing.
CAn you believe that someone would hire a sign company to print those plain signs?

Anonymous said...

I actually liked this episode better than a vacation or trip episode that I have gotten so tired of.

C said...

The buying of the used potties is really really weird. I haven't been to many garage sales in my life but the ones I have, I've never ever seen one. And the ones I've had at my house, I'd never think of selling a used one of my kids'. That's kinda gross. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

I think Kate is cranky and irritated whenever TLC makes her do something she doesn't particularly want to - like having a yard sale for charity. Didn't Kate say tonight that she "never prices stuff" at her sales yet there have been reports of the high prices they've asked for things at the previous neighborhood yard sales. And did I mishear or when Jon was talking about selling the golf bag didn't he say something about "not moving it" as he was putting it in the truck?

SkippyMom said...

I haven't watched the show in two years. I just enjoy the recaps - but I watched tonight.

A few observations:

When Jon mentions his Dad, while on the couch, and Kate says "Aww, Bippy, Bippy, Boo" - I thought I heard her say Bit*** instead of Bippy, but I don't have TIVO. Still...I found it incredibly insentive what she DID say, in that insipid "getover it" voice.

John talks about some of the clothes they are selling could be sentimental - I get that, I have felt that way about my kids' clothes too. Then he talks about the slide and his father was there when the girls received it. They mentioned he had passed 3 years ago. This is the most [from what I understand] they have ever talked about his father. Kate did say that he should keep his father's stuff, but he is such a packrat he needs to get rid of the rest of his junk. Doesn't she have anything? Doesn't she think a t-shirt worn by K.G. would be, like, a collector's item? See the kind of ideas websites can give them? ooops on my part.

Kate saying she missed his father? Laughable. Has she mentioned this person in two seasons? Did I miss something?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jon saying Kate is not a morning person. Let me recount the ways she PROVED that in this episode:

-She demands everything. I never, ever heard a please. Sorry, but this grated on me. You want you husband to lock the car door then you ask, nicely...don't demand.

-She whines about being cold. Dress warmer. Then she goes on to repeat how irritated that there is noone there and no tables. Does she usually repeat everything like this? Oh, that's right she does. Editing has nothing to do with this - they simply couldn't find a piece of tape that didn't include the word irritate and it ran twice.

-The tables are dented, scratched, "chewed on by a dog", dirty? NOT ACCEPTABLE! It is a freaking yard sale. You are selling stuff that was in your garage and used by toddlers and little kids!!! YOU ARE SELLING USED POTTIES - get over it. The clothes [which can be washed] are all in rubbermaid - no fear there, but get that roll of paper OFF THE TRUCK.

-The "Proceeds" sign was the kicker....Kate is complaining and darn near hysterical when she discovers THEY spelled the signs wrong - how dare THEY? Jon makes some crack about THEM "not having spellcheck" - can you two read? Apparently not.

-Kate says that the advertising is not good enough - She says "This is going to make me really angry."

Isn't this KON's yardsale? Aren't THEY raising the money? Who are the people that screwed up getting there on time, tables, signs and advertising. I know when I run my own yardsale I at least lift a finger. Or in Kate's case - get out of my chair. Hey - did you notice she didn't sit down the entire episode? There is an improvement. But, oh yeah...her hand was out for money. Charity money, but I think the impulse is still there.

The best, best, bestest part was when Kate mentioned that all her yard sales are run without prices? HELLO? Bueller? Anyone? She says she "doesn't take the time to price it." Who runs a yard sale WITHOUT prices? This is especially important with the amount of things they are selling. The did mention that people were generous with their own prices, which I thought was very nice. Still, prices people.

She mentions at the end they will do this every year. Take an online tutorial and you can avoid the near meltdowns you almost experienced today.

I have to agree with previous posters about the ballerina shoes, but only to say what word did she use to describe WHY she was getting rid of them? I thought it was "dustily" - then she mentioned glitter. Um, Christmas + glitter = hand in hand, right? At least it does in my house.

They are still charging for pics - but for a good cause. Here they get a kudos. I thought they were good sports in this arena. I wonder how many they sold? Also, is it just me, but is it presumptive to think people want your pic' when you are Z list? Oh, right...C-H-A-R-I-T-Y.

When they go to count the money? I laughed when Kate mentioned that she "Doesn't like to touch money." Really? No, no...this can't be the Kate we know. But boy-o did she grab that cash box with relish and count away.

Kate guesses $1,000 and Jon guesses $1,200. The total is $1,106.56. That makes Jon closer to $1,200 last time I checked - but Kate insists SHE is right. [Does she ever give up?] I would not want this nurse giving me my meds in the hospital - "Oh, well 25 mg is sort of like 75 mg, right? I mean they both end in 5." No, no...She may not have the degree everyone seems to be vague on, but if she is indeed a nurse she has to understand that Jon was closer and to let it go.

Oh, and learn simple math.

I was glad the kidlets were able to sleep in - but they came on screen 20 minutes after the episode started and then disappear to the playground [yay them!] except to reappear to go to the bathroom 17,000 times. Wasn't this show supposed to be about all the family? Too much Kon [as GWOP have been saying for a long time] and not enough of the kids. The twins were sweet with their "drink stand" - but the great "repeaterer" kept saying how they donated all of their [the twins'] money. I say again C-H-A-R-I-T-Y. It was never their money to begin with [nor did I see that the twins thought that, they were so cute]but Kate really pounded that home.

That is all I got out of it. Was that enough? LOL.

Since I enjoyed the comments and updates here so much I thought I would give it a try, but the show is just too much. I will come back for recaps and such - but if I can type this long on a 22 minute show and find these type of descrepancies and/or things that are bothersome why do I watch? Oh, I am not going to anymore. Once in two years is quite enough.

With any luck in 2010 it will be off the air and syndication won't be an option.

One more thing - I didn't get up to change the channel fast enough and it showed the boys on the potty episode up next. You would think with all the uproar and disproval about that episode they would pull it out of rotation, wouldn't you?

Anonymous said...

I wasn't really paying attention, but I thought Jon mumbled something about getting rid of so many toys "so we don't have to move them" when he was chucking stuff onto the truck; did anyone notice that? I might be mistaken.

Anonymous said...

Wow. Could Kate have possibly complained any more? Jon did all the work, as usual. Kate bitched and whined about everything, as usual. Very little footage of the kids (a break from the cameras? how awesome for them!) I'm glad they decided to donate the "prodceeds" to a worthy cause...but wonder, was it out of the goodness of their hearts, or purely damage control?

This yard sale took place in October. A friend of mine was there. She said Kate acted very rude to people. So maybe TLC was trying to do damage control by making her do something back but then again she didn't care what price she sold anything for. My friend bought alot of old navy and gymboree clothes CHEAP!!!

Anonymous said...

I have had yard sales many times, and the key to its success is Advertising and pricing your items. If you dont advertise you will not get the crowd.

I have made a whole lot more money and had a whole lot less to sell than KON!
because I advertised and priced my goods.

It seems Mrs. Organization wasn't very organized at all with this garage sale. I don't remember if she said she advertised in the local newspapers or not? But that would have brought in alot more people. And how about calling all the local radio stations BEFORE being put into a position of not having a positive turnout and then having to call? How about putting flyers out at that church and other local churches/supermarkets in the area? They could have done alot more planning ahead then they did. And who doesn't look at the flyers/posters ahead of time/once they get them back from the printers? PRODCEEDS. That was too funny.

Man if she gets that upset over a dang flyer, imagine if it's somethimg actually important that ticks her off. At times she's scary.

Like someone else said, if it was their money they'd be making and they didn't have their kids bringing in the paycheck every episode, then you'd bet they would have advertised alot more than they did.

Also it would have been nice if Kon matched the money they earned with a check out of their own pockets to the charity as well, since Jon mentioned that alot of the stuff they were selling was free/donated items anyways. Yeah that would have been nice Kon!

I wasn't really paying attention, but I thought Jon mumbled something about getting rid of so many toys "so we don't have to move them" when he was chucking stuff onto the truck; did anyone notice that? I might be mistaken.

J&K talked about moving in the most recent FAQ episode, so it's really no big deal that they mention not wanting to move stuff in this episode.

Carla was just there for the exact reason Julie has stated before. When you can do something for Kate, in this case Carla was there to help with the sale, then she will be nice to you. I'm sure once the sale was over, poor Carla was banished back to the yard and back to nowhereland.

Oh Kate, what are we to do with you and your bad attitude. Perhaps you should read the devotionals on your website. "Do unto others" and instead of just writing it for show, try putting it into practice for a change.

(Did ya'll think Jon looked skinny in that stripped shirt on the couch?)

THE ORNAMENTS. Kate did say Poppy gave them a lot of ornaments she was only selling the ones that dropped glitter all over the place.
What mother has not gotten rid of something that makes a mess or is really noisy?

11/24/2008 7:09 PM

IMO, the SENTIMENTAL VALUE of attached to an item is MUCH MORE important in the grand scheme of things than a little glitter all over the place!!! What is annoying to Kate may find a place of great significance in the eyes of her child (the ornament).

Anonymous said...

I don't see what the big deal is about Jon and Kate having the sale. Does it really matter whether or not the toys were donated or sold to Jon and Kate in the first place? In the end, a lot money was raised for cancer research It's a big deal because it is a @#$$% con. If I sell gifts and donated items I'm not really parting with any thing of value to me, that cost me anything. Actually the cost came from their children whom they persistently exploit to have the free items to sell. On top of selling items that came to them free of charge other then the children's right to privacy, dignity and a normal childhood they made a hell of a lot more filming this that they donated.
$1106 raised for charity
And I'd hardly call this a lot of money. If they wanted to give a lot of money donate the monies they got for the filming of this joke.

I heard Kate say to Mady that Poppy had given them lots of ornaments. The ballet slippers were not the only ornament they had from him. When Mady said she wanted them, Kate agreed. I don't see the heartbreak. It was cruel to sell a child's item without the consent of the child. it was a gift from her now deceased grandfather. Lucky break that Mady caught it before it got sold instead of her finding out after the fact. That really seals the deal for me that Katie dear hasn't ever taken a moment to think of anyone else period. Nasty wench.

I did not even see this episode yet. I taped it and watched between a few commercials on DWTS. Still, wow..I can see how pathetic it was!

*That was the smallest, most useless yard sale I have seen from such a BIG family! I've seen childless couples with more stuff out than that.

*Hardly anyone was there?! Most people would flock to a sale when they found out someone with 8 kids was having it. You can TELL the whole town hates them and deliberately stayed away! Probably figured they'd be pocketing all the money and didn't want to line their pockets more.

*I have seen at least 5 comments here that look as if they were obviously written by KON going on defensively about the ornaments, how it is no big deal, Poppy gave them more, blah, blah, blah. But WHO does that?! Who gives away keepsakes such as this? Heartless people, that's who. Guess what? I have tons of old art projects from my kids full of glitter and other stuff. I'll bet she never even lets her kids keep ONE art project or drawing because it is "junk".

*She was soooo enthusiastic about the charity on the couch. Riiiight. When she insisted Cara and Mady gave away their drink money it didn't even sound believable.

*Funny how she goes on about 'making memories' (translation: taking every freebie and trip offered) but throws real memories away without a care..if they don't benefit her.

*Won't even get started on the episode following it with the potties, Poor Aunt Jodie, napping in pajamas, etc! And just so Jon won't keep complaining on the Redbook site that people post anonymously, I'll type in my name since it matters to him so much and all@@

Carla was actually a BFF to Kate (supposedly the 2 grew up together) who was nearly as close as Beth Carson. There is a story behind the whole Carla disappearance/reappearances. Someone said that Carla does Kate's yard. I don't think that's true because I understand they have their yard professionally manicured. After all it is the Queen's Palace.

Yes, I heard him say that too. They have definitely moved back to Berks County to a very large home and property. I'm sure this yard sale was in preparation for that move as it seems to have been taped a short time before. It made me sick to see all of the new or barely used items they had to sell. They are obviously getting too much free stuff that they can't even use it all. Kate again turned a very nice idea into a disaster. She was a complete bitch the entire time.

What's up with Kate? Last episode, she was trying not to control everything. Cut to this week and she's irritated about anything and everything. It was obvious that she hadn't been involved in the planning of the garage sale. I'm sure the producers pitched the idea of the show and then did the leg work. I wonder what they think and how they feel when Kate is pitching a fit about things that they have worked hard on. I'm sure the producers and the film crew have lots of good stories!

It is now obvious what it takes to push Kate to the point of teetering on the edge of total physical, emotional, and mental breakdown; her having to 'give back'.

I am a mom of four children, which includes a set of twins. When I first started watching JK8, it was a real help to me in learning how to cope/survive with four children. Now with 3 years of watching I am disappointed every week for the last year on each show. Shows about teeth whitening, vacations, hair transplants, spa treatments etc. I feel the show has lost touch with what it originally set out to do which was to help people like myself. Now, the show is so Hollywood inspired, it makes me sad. Sad for the fans but mostly sad for the children who I now feel are being over-exposed. Hopefully, JK will make enough and bank enough of their earnings to take a break from TV until the kids are adults and can make decisions for themselves.

It wasnt a lot of money...They had the amount on their website. I think it was around 1500 bucks give or take. Not that every little bit doesnt help, but they just bought a 1.3 million dollar home...I think she could have given a bit more!

Anonymous said...

OK who doesn't think that KON lightened the till a little? After all, they're a charity too...unto themselves.

I bet poor Poppy is turning in his grave right now because of the greed and selfishness of KON (:

How sad to see that Kate would get rid of the glittery ornaments that Poppy gave to the girls. I would never get rid of a piece of my childrens memories of their grandparents so easily. Mady has a heart...she must have inherited from her Poppy...sure didn't come from her Mommy.

Anonymous said...

I noticed the amount they raised was small compared to all the stuff they had.
Did you see the guy buy that plastic gym set for $10! Kate would have never ever selled it that price if she was keeping the money! People were giving her extra money because they know they basically got the item for free. The she griped about the lunches she made the day before! Yeah, right! Didn't she say on filming days they had "craft services". The woman constantly contradicts herself. All those brand new bottles of shampoo and the like, really could have been donated to a shelter. Oh and my husband said that Jon's explanation for selling the golf bag translated to him as "kate wants me to sell it".

MelB said...

As someone who HAS cancer and is involved in fundraisers..can I just say this? It doesn't matter how much they made or didn't make at the yard sale. One never knows which donated penny will help find a cure. The bottom line is that there was $1,106 dollars more money now donated to a very worthy cause. On a side note: Used potties seem really gross. I know it's important to recycle, especially plastic items, but still Yuck. I wonder if they thought "celebrity potties" would sell? I've seen some really odd, nasty stuff at yard sales: used sheets, half used bottles of shampoo or denture cream, a disgusting hair-covered fuzzy bath mat..but potties have to take the germ-filled cake!

They showed all those pop-up tents the tups just got for Christmas last year. I remember Kate saying they could have an entire "tent" city as a hospital and so forth was included in the set. I don't ever recall seeing them set up tho. I was wondering if maybe they were presents sent by fans since I read their Christmas episode wasn't actually filmed on Christmas maybe the gifts the kids opened that day were from fans? I feel terrible for the person who bought them those gifts to see them laying in a yard sale pile a few months later, although it would creep me out if strangers were sending my kids presents. I think it would have been better for KON to just donate all the items and skip the publicity show. If you want to do something good, then you do it, you don't wait for a camera to roll. Selling donated clothing and toys? Totally wrong regardless of the cause. They have the means to donate those items and write a check to that foundation. I refuse to belive that Kate & TLC are not working together to throw in these "heartless ratings" moments. No way would a parent throw out an ornament from a deceased grandpa. I'm almost fully convinced TLC is scripting the show for ratings. Kate just sounds so fake with her "irritated" this and that. I think they are all screwing with us. Remember that episode of the Osbournes when they admitted to doing things to egg people on?

I say, let the Gosselin's live in their new compound and stay off of reality tv for awhile! Maybe do a yearly update or something, even a 5 year update!! There are more families that are on TLC now with way more kids and they are much more interesting! Jon and Kate are getting boring to watch, so I'm more excited to be watching these new shows!

Kate has no warmth at all. She is as cold as they come. It looks like she has veneers too. How could Kate sell something that Jon's dad "Poppy" gave to Mady because the glitter comes off? So what! It's only glitter. It won't kill anyone. Kate sure does have some really strange issues. I'm sure that they had the yard sale, to get rid of stuff that they don't want to take on their new move. But out of all the episode's, Kate was truly a bitch in this one!

I just heard about a tragic fire today in York (about 1 1/2 hrs from KON). There is a family with 8 small children left homeless. Wouldn't it be great if KON could look past their greediness to genuinely help out another family with 8 kids. This family doesn't get to go on trips around the world, and now they have no place to live, no clothing to wear, and the children have no toys. Just in time for Christmas. Hey TLC, why don't you give them some help instead of the greedy new residents of Berks country? I'm sure if you contacted the Red Cross of York County PA, they would be glad to direct you to the right people. I can promise you that the residents of PA would have more respect for YOU if you helped someone who is really in need.

Did anyone see that Jon was actually trying to stand up to Kate?

***Where did he do that because I must have missed it???***

Did you notice all the Mary Kay bottles and what appeared to be shampoo and other BRAND NEw Bottles of stuff for sale?
Guess it was all donated.

***I noticed that as well and thought WhyTF is she selling all that stuff when it was probably given to her for free in the first place?***

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wasn't really paying attention, but I thought Jon mumbled something about getting rid of so many toys "so we don't have to move them" when he was chucking stuff onto the truck; did anyone notice that? I might be mistaken.
***I caught that as well and had to rewind my DVR to make sure that that was what I had heard.***
To me though, it looked like they were having this garage sale to get rid of things in order for their big move, wether its to NC or to stay in PA, they are still selling these items. I mean why are you selling bottles of lotions and shampoo if you don't want to have to move them? I can see selling the kids outgrown toys, clothes and shoes, but shampoo, lotions, etc?
Last thing, could Kate have been anymore of a Drama Queen? Nough said on that because she truly proved what a spoiled bratty B*T*H she has become. I bet her mother is so proud of that.
75,000 an episode. Give me a break, these people need to get jobs and raise their kids with out the cameras. Pushing your family away is the worst thing one can do. Family is all you have in the end. I hope she has one, because they will need it when all the money and glory is gone.
Just to clarify - Kate sees her life in "seasons" and I mispoke.
I should have said "seasons" not "years" - I am from a generation where seasons were one each year.
From wikipedia:
Seasons 1 & 2 were released on DVD 7/6/2008 - to mass market 9/9/2008.
Season 3 was released 11/2008 and to the mass market 2/3/2009.
I saw the commercial during tonights filming that showed their DVD of seasons 1 & 2.
Again, apologies for using the wrong word.
I felt so bad for Mady when she wanted to keep the ornament that Poppy gave her. I also found it interesting that Jon told Mady to tell her mom she wanted to keep it. Obviously, he was tooooo afraid to tell Kate himself. My daughter is 30 years old and in her bedroom here at home (she's married and doesn't live here any longer) is a tie of my father-in-law that she loved to see him wear when she was growing up. Her grandma gave it to her after his death. It is on a shelf in her old room, and yes, it accumulates dust and serves no purpose, but under no circumstances would I ever dispose of it. Silly as it may be, it is important to my daughter, and will always be a rememberance of their special relationship. I have things of my grandmother's around my home, that I would never think of getting rid of, let alone selling at a garage sale. I hope Kate reads these posts and takes some serious parenting lessons from those of us who may not have 8 children, but certainly do a better job of teaching values then she and Jon do.
I thought the same thing. She was complaining way too much if she was the one who set everything up.
I'm just sitting here wondering with that whole 'PROCDEEDS' (LMAO BTW) sign who picked them up. Was it TLC staff that picked it up or did J&K. I've been to places like that many times and they always have you check the work to see if it's OK. If J or K picked it up that is too freaking hilarious that they didn't notice the mistake until just then. (And judging by the way K acted she surely didn't pick them up). But if a TLC staff memeber did it seems they did that just to see what K's reaction would be.
To anonymous who thinks we are to blame for making these kids life miserable: If you know this much about the show apparently you watched as well. That is kind of interesting for you to make that statement. Also, I would never pawn off any issues my children might have on anyone else - that would fall squarely on my shoulders. I am the Mom and all decisions for their welfare are mine. To blame other people is what is wrong in this country - these kids are not on TV because I tuned in tonight, they are on TV because their parents willingly, and shall I say insistently, have decided to make a living off their existence. That is a mighty big stone you are throwing.
What is up with selling bikes, slides and stuff that kids this age still use? Are they really that careless with money that they'll just toss stuff away so as not to move it and then get all new? Forget answering, I already know. How can pathetic sheeple think these are not greedy people? They have WAY too much thrown their way by misguided people. In this economy they just flaunt what they have have and sell things their kids still probably want and use. They could have given the 25K they make from ONE church appearance and would have donated much more to charity than putting on this fiasco! Don't show up to see them, give them love offerings, buy their pictures! Quit being so foolish all you obsessive fans out there! Sheesh!
Here are my thoughts:
For this "yard sale", which wasn't in their yard, they:
1. rented tables
2. went to a "printing company" for those misspelled signs which could have been done on any home computer
3. rented a moving van to transport the items to the church
It seems like they went to a LOT of trouble for this little sale, and the cost of those services make the whole thing seem a bit contrived.
Man, what a bitch Kate was tonight! I only watched bits and pieces while on commercial break from DWTS (who else thought Lance got gypped?)
"We weren't advertising the show, we don't have to", what a bitch! Way to go TLC - I guess what we're learning from your network is how to be a self centered entitled cold hearted bitch.
Oh, I liked how she called the radio station "this is Kate", I wish it was some rocker station and they responded with "who the hell is Kate" or "so what".
I thought Oprah bought TLC? We should start writing her!
The whole issue of the ornament issue isn't one to make seem like a witch about. I'm not an avid fan of their "politics of life" but maybe she didn't realize how important that ornament was to Maddy. It's not like she didn't give it back or anything.
It was sweet to hear Jon talk about his dad and how Kate misses him. And to the person who posted @ 6:55 and said it is b/c he gave them money- that is horrible to say. From the beginning they have always talked about him.
This issue is being made bigger than it needs to be. Some things are perceived as something else even if we didn't mean to.
As much as I don't like Kate I honestly think she didn't do it to be spiteful. It probably just got mixed in with the other stuff.
My MIL recently passed away and I have some of her belongings, but you never know as time goes on I might give it away. Everyone has to move on after the death of a loved one. IMO. :-)
This is my first time commenting on anything Jon and Kate related. I started watching this show 6 months ago. I Tivo'd all the reruns all summer and watched several a day with my kids during the long hot summer. I watch now only to wittness the downfall of Kate. It is downright sad to see the change in her. Money and fame have gotten the best of her and seem to be controlling her actions. The kids are only a side note. At first she was interesting and kinda mean and sort of selfish now she is just mean and selfish. Yet, it appears that she must read her hate mail because she does her best to cover up and change but it is so forced and she looks so bored by it. Also, my husband and I fight from time to time but we have passion, Kate and Jon act more like brother and sister than a husband and wife...maybe thats why she is constantly reassures the kids that she and Jon will be together forever. But dont be fooled into thinking Jon will leave her, he is a nice guy but seems a little weak. In the end Kate will probably take her money and maybe the kids and leave him.
In truth Kate got my vote because she was a quick wit and clever now I dont see that as much...I am not sure why other than she has really changed and money is her key motivation now. I think I have to close all this with a big IMO or it wont get posted.
Anonymous said...
I don't think Jon wanted to get rid of his Dad's golf bag. He held it, zipped it, and touched it quite a while. He said he doesn't use it anymore, as he has a new one, but it obviously stirred up some emotions in him. Of course, we know Kate would not allow that.
I thought they had a HUGE amount of things for the sale. Our whole church together never had that much stuff, and it looked like good stuff. I suppose a lot of it was new, besides the shampoos and lotions. I sincerely hope the folks who did donate all that stuff to the KONS saw it being gotten rid of and now they know not to try to help them any more. Who, who who gets rid of shampoo and lotion? That stuff costs plenty.
Oh, and by the way, the potty chair my children used came from a yard sale, as well as the high chair, and the crib, the tricycles, and much of their clothing. Potty chairs are not such terrible things and are extremely easy to clean. Nothing about a clean potty chair is gross, and it sure was mighty fine for us to use. I surely wish all of our things had been new, but we were college students and didn't have two nickels to rub together. We didn't even own a car. Thankfully, 40 years later, our grandchildren now have a new potty chair to use when they come to see us.
Judging from what I see during of their house on the shows, I don't know where that stuff came from! There has is void of any comfort items much less toys and just plain stuff to sell at a yard sale. Seriously, where was that stuff stored before? I think they could have filled that truck up with all the furnishings in their house and still had room.
Also, how much is a truck rental these days? How much were the signs? How much were the tables?
What a waste! And I am not talking about the yard sale.
I was watching this show while my hubby was on the computer table near our TV. I noticed how thin both Jon and Kate looked. Wow, they have time to use the threadmill, but no time to teach the kids not to hit each other, nor throw food, etc.
Kate complained a lot. It's obvious she didn't want to do the yardsale because the money wasn't going to her bank account anyway.
My hubby who do not watch the show got irritated with Kate's constant whining that he called her a B***h!
I said that she is always like that.
With all those stuffs they could easily get $1500-2000 but Kate didn't bother.
Did anyone notice when Kate wanted the sign posted on the street she just handed it to one of the camera people. Isn't it supposed to be that Kate pretends the camera people are not there? Is she bossing them around, too?
Joan Kroc is the late wife of the man who started McDonald's as it is today. They made a fortune in the 500 millions. She is "famous" for quietly making donations to a variety of charities. She anonomously donated millions after a bad flood in Minnesota in 1997, but a newspaper outed her. There was a huge outcry when the newspaper printed her name. She wanted to do it without all the fuss and most people wanted to respect that. There was a reason for doing it namelessly, and the public got that.
She even tried to donate the Padres baseball team which she owned, but because of bylaws and other similar rules, she couldn't do it.
I can't imagine Kon ever getting to the point where they realize being an annoymous angel and just giving back to your roots or those who helped you the most is an amazing power you have when you happen to fall into a great deal of money.
Can you imagine this episode if Kon had just quietly wrapped up all these gently used toys and gave them to Hershey's children's ward Christmas party? I think they would find that the good feelings they got from that would be like no other, and I think it would make a long lasting impression on their kids. What's more, they wouldn't have to get up at 6am and wait for a late truck.
Also, when are they going to tell their fans to please donate toys they send for xmas to a charity of their choice? They're just going to end up on the garage sale table in six months' time.
Kate, try to be humble for once. Donate when nobody's watching, don't announce it 1 MILLION TIMES. Tacky...
But if they don't say it/show it then no one would believe they did it.
The beauty of service and charity is that it is done in private without needing to be believed or announced to the world...The people who got the money would believe it.
But that's the point, why are they so worried about us and what we think? They are always on the defensive. If they truly believe what they are doing is right, they wouldn't have to defend it so much. When people complain they don't give back, they could easily say screw them we donate thousands to charity a year it's none of their business. Instead they desperately try to look charitable by selling stuff donated to them in the first place. If they were truly charitable people, there would be no reason to do this episode in the first place. It is damage control any way you shake, rattle or roll it. Besides, I thought charity was about making sacrifices for someone else. Not regifting.
It has been said on this board a dozen times, but it seems it bears repeating. The Gosselins got their reputation of being greedy and selfish by behaving that way consistently over time. Word got out because people who witnessed it spoke out.
The way to convince people that they have morphed into genuinely charitable, benevolent people is to behave in a charitable and benevolent way consistently and over time. If they behave in a giving way, then people who witness it will talk and the image will change.
They need consistency, not cameras. The fact that they film every quasi-good thing they do and talk about ad nauseam makes everything very contrived.
It also seems that if they are as kind and caring as they want everyone to believe, they would get their children off of television and allow them the privacy they deserve.
Hardly. Only Nielsen families and certain DVR viewers count. The network hasn't any idea whether the rest of us are watching or not.
I missed the show - darn! But I wanted to say that I have every Christmas ornament I was ever given and every ornament I ever made growing up. My mom kept them neatly stored and we got them down at Christmas and decorated the tree with them, then put them back up after Christmas. She gave them all to me when I moved out. I still have them all and I have separate bins for each of my three kiddos. They each have their own ornaments, most given to them as gifts. Yes, some have glitter, or sequins, or other messy stuff. But all you do is take them from the box to the tree. And after you put up a tree, don't you usually have to vacuum up pine needles or fake needles anyway? So what's a little extra glitter? Well, I'll just have to catch the episode when it repeats.
Used potties are not gross. If you have ever used a toilet at the mall, the zoo, Six Flags, Walmart, etc. you are using a USED potty, that was NOT cleaned prior to you using it. I have one child potty training right now and his little potty is spotless because I thoroughly wipe it down after each use. It looks brand new. When we are done, I will donate it to a church daycare or something similar. I will of course bleach it down thoroughly before I donate it, and I'm sure they will clean it again anyway before they use it. I think some of you are TOO particular.
Anonymous said...
I think Kate should have donated the shampoo and other unused toiletries to a shelter or community pantry.
Anonymous said...
Perhaps if Kate were known for being as particular with her potties as you have been, the idea wouldn't be so gross. We saw, however, how Kate left them sit all day without being emptied. I surely wouldn't want one that had been steeped in human waste.
Rosey in washington said...
Not that this matters at all, but I actually thought Kate looked a little chunky compared to the past couple episodes, but still she's not fat by any means.
Also, about the babysitter, did anyone else notice that they cut off Jons sentance when they were talking about the babysitter, I think he said her name but it was cut off...atleast thats what I thought, it really sounded like it was cut off.
I cant believe Carla is back. Especially after the whole Jodi situation and all the negative publicity about the show. And, did anyone else think that Kate treated her REALLY poorly?? It was like Carla was her servant, but like always Kate is only interested in someone when they can do something for her. And that was VERY evident tonight. Kate did not load one thing on or off the truck, how lazy can she really be?? I mean it was HER garage sale and she did NOTHING but take the money, which she insisted she hates touching.LOL. If that wasnt the funniest thing ever spoken I dont know what is.
I am wondering if they are going to do another Q & A show in the near future, and if they do, I wonder if they will answer any questions that really matter, you know the questions we all want answers to.
Also, someone was talking about how great it would be if Dateline or 20/20 did an investigative piece about Jon and Kate. I was thinking whether Jodi or Beth, or any other of the "inside people" who have gotten banished would agree to get interviewed. I think that would be FABULOUS!!
In the last episode of the Hawaiin re-newal vow,Kate seemed rather kind to Jon because she didn't slap him anymore and replaced it with a gentle stroke (like you do a dog) but ALAS during the episode of the yard sale while in the confession couch she did her famous slapping Jon hard on the knee...Let's put Kate in "Time Out" but not till after she looks at Jon in the eye and hugs him and says that she is sorry.
Anonymous said...
Before the "Yard Sale" show began, the thought crossed my mind that Kate would probably be whining and complaining through the whole show because she had to get up early in the morning and actually do something for a change. She didn't prove me wrong. She bitched and moaned through the entire show only in the end as the show ended that "this was fun." It was fun now that it all was over and she didn't have to do anything. How fake can she be!
Are you cold, Kate? Instead of whining........bring a sweater.
Want your husband to do something for you? Try saying please or thank-you once in a while and mean it!!
Are you irritated Kate? Try saying it MORE than five times in a one minute span of taping the show. That shouldn't be too hard for you to do.
Are you irritated at your hubby for forgetting the lunches? Why not get off your *ss and have made/brought the lunches yourself.
-------------
Now that you have your million dollar mansion you barely lifted a finger for as you're so lazy and expect everybody else to do everything for you......maybe you can take a moment and reflect on your negative, complaining attitude time and time again as the public has repeatedly seen.
Step out into the real world and get a job. No, wait a minute, you don't have to work...you have everything handed to you on a silver platter and all the helpers you need to go along with it.
I can't remember when I last say Kate do anything on the show worth anything without complaining the whole way through.
CHOO CHOO!! The GRAVY TRAIN will be departing soon.
I just found out I am pregnant & started watching the show. Wow what a difference the hour long specials were compared to the show now. It's really interesting to watch the "transformation" from the standpoint of someone who hasn't been watching every week. Now I see what all of the negativity is about. This yardsale was forced on them. Who has a yardsale without price stickers, rents tables and has a printing company make up simple signs? Just do it yourself. Damage control? I've spent hours tonight reading comments and boy are you guys right. Why do you think they are still on the air? I much preferred the "real" family aka Hayes or the Roloff family. They both seem genuine.
Anonymous said...
What happened to the damage control? TLC chose to air the fact that Kate wanted to sell the Christmas ornaments the twins deceased Poppy gave them, simply because they make a mess. Plus, they featured Kate at her bitchy finest in this epi. It does not seem to me that TLC is trying to show "America's Favorite Family" (gag) in their best light. In fact, in seems like they are trying to throw them under the bus.
Oh I loved this........we didn't do it to advertise the show (calling the radio station)........We DON'T have to.
I do believe that some of the stuff that did not sell was donated to at least good will.
DD and I were ROFL when Kate said something about not liking being around money, or counting money :)
MidnightSun said...
Even though TLC is making tons off of the show, the employees have got to be so sick of Kate.
That's what I am thinking. I can only imagine how she must treat TLC, the camera crew, etc. She "appears" to be nice, but I really think she is just a bitch to everyone.
If TLC was the ones who organized the yard sale, they didn't do a very good job advertising or setting up. It's like they purposely try to piss her off in little ways.
I did not watch last night's episode, but after reading the comments here, I am sad about the ornament thing. It just goes to show how Kate has no respect or compassion for anyone around her.
Anonymous said...
If no one knew the title of the show or what the concept was around and strictly watched it last night, they would think it was a reality show about a woman who does NOTHING but boss other people around and complain. You would think it was a show about the wicked witch and her servants. To TLC's credit, I get why the offsite shows are taking place---they have to keep Kate happy. If she is "stuck" in normalcy she is miserable. She doesn't know how to act. I was actually teary-eyed when I saw Jon talk about his dad in the beginning. That is the only genuine show of emotion I have seen in at least the last six episodes. And Kate, really, the hair....!!
highondegrassi said...
I hope someone from Johnson & Johnson was watching this show and saw the caseloads of their shampoo being sold at this yard sale.
Yes, Jon mentioned getting rid of things so they didn't have to move them. This was taped in October? According to public records, they closed on the new house in Wernersville on 10/23/08.
Kate's hair. Yes, it looked like crap. I think she's finally trying to grow the rooster butt out.
They really seemed so unorganized with this yard sale. I can't believe Carla showed up to do all the work. I wonder how much they paid her.
Ravello said...
Comments so negative that I channel flipped into the show. QFI is such a narcissist, from what I saw and the comments posted, it seems this sale inconvenienced her and interfered with sleeping late.
She is the new queen of mean, there is not an ounce of kindness or joy in that cruel heart of hers.
Very tacky to sell gifts from a grandparent, Poppy had to be turning over in the grave.
Another episode in which Kate has no interaction whatsoever with her kids.
TLC may have commissioned this episode as damage control but we saw the real Kate, the haughty, arrogant ego driven shrew.
Looking forward to 3 Farmers recap. It will be better than the show.
Ravello said...
DWTS was over and I saw the first 5 minutes of the 9:30 episode, a rerun I had seen before.
Back to back with the bitchy Kate at the sale, we see uber bitchy Kate bullying the boy tups on their potties, getting dresssed , sitting at the breakfast table. Those sweet boys are just brutalized by their own mother day after day. It is sickening to watch.
I turned it off after 5 minutes, my husband said why are we watching this cruelty. He hates this show.
Dear Katie Irene--
My ex-wife's church held a bake sale last Saturday and literally no one came. It doesn't help that the church is in the boonies, east of nowhere, but instead of bitching and moaning about what to do with all these pies, she packed them into the back of her van and a couple of friends and I relieved her of about half of them..paying, of course.
Once again, your attitude is your downfall. Where you should be grateful that anyone bought anything...which you eventually showed...instead you crab about everything from dirty tables and forgotten lunches to not enough people showing up.
And by the way, as many have stated previously, you could have simply donated a lot of the stuff to a pediatric cancer unit. The toys would bring a lot of comfort and fun to the kids at a very difficult time.
Anonymous said...
Glitter? That's a sorry excuse and easy to remedy. Since she's such the expert on practical ideas and organization..I'm shocked she didn't think of this one: Christmas ornaments? Take a box (get one from an opened present), take some tissue paper (also from an opened present), line the box with tissue paper, place each priceless ornament in the box. You could even wrap each ornament individually with the tissue paper. Put the lid over the box and store with other Christmas items. Problem solved! That would've been the easiest and most affordable way, but why couldn't she just store them with the other ornaments. She could've just stored them until Mady and Cara were adults and given it to them then.
Also..she missed Jon's dad? I find that hard to believe since she's alienated her own family.
Jon I noticed was his typical self. He did EVERYTHING! He loaded, unloaded, picked up the kids, took the kids home. I would have sympathy for him, BUT I notice when he is doing these things he gives this little boy poor me look. Like.."look at me working so hard. Don't you feel sorry for me? Look how she treats me :(". He's a MAN! Contrary to popular belief he is a man not a little boy. If he wants to see change in Kate and how she treats him..he has to change his attitude and behavior 1st! He has only himself to blame when it comes to Kate walking all over him.
Two things about Kate:
1. Someone PLEASE tell her that the haircut is no longer flattering. Oh my word, I want to run up and cut the one end off so bad! Seriously, does she not see herself on camera and realize that the hair is out of control? It used to look cute, but has grown into something scary (the color does look good in this episode)
2.How is she not incredibly MORTIFIED to see herself acting so mean and nasty on camera? She just looked plain awful in this episode.
3.I understand not wanting to price the ton of stuff they sold...but she could have been a bit more competitive in her pricing. She was going to sell the Step 2 Climber for $10! We all know it was only used inside or in the garage. She could have made more money for Pediatric Cancer had she charged $40 (which would still have been a good bargin for the buyer).
Also, I wonder how Playskool felt seeing their beloved (and given for free) Rose Petal Cottage for sale. I would think the little girls would still have wanted to play with that!
A UHaul truck full?? - Looks like they were ridding out prior to moving. With Carla helping out - wasn't this months ago??
Kate was bitching the whole show -
first the tables, then the signs,
then no people - it helps to advertise a week ahead of time.
They miss Jon's Dad probably for the $$ involved. The kids actually got to play without an adult hovering over them!!
How cynical we have become.
My goodness, used potties ARE gross. For what it's worth I try to avoid the public restrooms at all costs but still, potties in the mall at least have seat protectors. Having your child use a used potty chair is similar to me as having your kid wear hand-me-down underwears. It's not sanitary and things like this should be bought new, not used. How much does a plain potty chair cost at Target or Babies or Us? A few bucks?
Plus we've seen on TV how Kate lets pee and poop sit in those things all day and night (remember Mady telling Kevin they empty them only when they're filled up?) Gross, gross, gross. Sorry. It's a few dollars - splurge and buy your kid a new one. Blech.
Didn't watch the show - rerun of my favorite show NCIS was on ION at the time. My guess the reason Kate was so cranky is that she really did not want to do this episode, but Figure 8 made her as part of its continuing effort at damage control.
Figure 8 really goes out of its way to portray Kate in a negative light - which she totally deserves, btw. But either Kate is too clueless to see that or she does not care about her image as long as she is making money.
I had to laugh about Cara and Mady giving their money to the charity from their drink stand. In July I was driving through a neighborhood and two little girls were selling lemonade for Alex's Lemonade Foundation. I stopped and got a glass and the older girl who was about 7 served me the drink and than the younger one who was about 5 asked me to buy another. I did and she served me and I asked where the money was going. The older girl said to "Alex because she had cancer and died" and the younger one said "or maybe we will keep it because I want to get a Barbie laptop!" I had to laugh because "out of the mouths of babes." Her mother who was right there was turned bright red and told her ALL of the money was going to Alex. I was wondering if giving the money up was discussed before Cara and Mady started the stand? Even if it was, making their own money and envisioning what they could buy with it is part of being a kid and I am sure there would be hestitation by 90% of the kids to turn over money they just earned. Nice job Cara and Mady.
I felt that there was absolutely no personal interaction between Kate and Carla. She was treated just like hired help - I saw no smiles or chatting between the two of them.
Also, IMO, if you are getting paid to do it, it's not charity work. It's a job.
She barks orders and complains, rather than stepping in and helping the process run smoothly. I really feel badly for her. Oh, but you know Kate always puts her tree in a corner surrounded by a baby gate. She probably keeps it up for one day. I'll bet they don't have any old ornaments that mean anything to them, or anything of meaning for that matter. They just grab all they can get free and then sell it all on consignment when they don't want it. No sentimentality, no traditions. I remember watching their Christmas show and how void of any meaning it seemed. No family visiting, just Kate pretending to make cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate, the kids getting gifts they don't need from fans..they showed them at Toys 'r Us picking out one gift for each other while Kate screamed at people. Really sad.
I guess why I think it doesn't look like much stuff at the yard sale for such a big family is that you would THINK people with all these kids would have tons of those clothes in all sizes to sell (I don't believe for a minute she does this yard sale yearly) You know why she doesn't, of course, is because she sells them all for a profit throughout the year : ( Also, you would expect other church members, friends and family, etc, would donate for the good cause. No, of course not. Because they are alone and no one wants to be in their life. Plus, they wanted it to be all about THEM and damage control. So to have others there would not do at all.
Dear Anonymous,
It makes me upset because TLC and KON are perpetrating one of the biggest ruses since the quiz show scandals of the 1950's.
THAT'S WHY.
Anonymous said...
To the person who keeps trying to defend Kate over the ornaments because "maybe she didn't know" and "it's not a big deal. I might give away stuff from dead loved ones too", etc. Thing is, Kate DID know they wanted the ornaments. SHE wanted them gone because they were messy. Oh yeah, she made up some stupid name about what sort of mess they made. She is incapable of thinking hard enough to realize glitter can be cleaned up. I think people could defend her all day long and it is just not going to work!
Anonymous said...
While I think it's wonderful that they were donating the money to charity, a lot of things bothered me in this episode. Kate's behavior being the worst of it. Why wouldn't she take the time to price things? People are more likely to buy when they don't have to ask how much something is.
And could she have been more b*tchy? When you are raising money for charity, you are representing the cause. I've worked fundraisers before and worked in the merch booth. When people see how excited you are and how much you care about the cause, they will care, too. She came across as rude and demanding. It's a turn off.
I'm happy they raised the money that they did because every penny counts. I just wish she would have worn her big girl pants and made a better effort to smile and be polite. Instead, she complained all day about how irritated she was(no surprise there!) and how there weren't enough people stopping by or buying enough. It was disappointing, even for Kate.
Anonymous said...
What is the opposite of damage control? This episode was definately NOT damage control. Could they have show Kate in a worse way? It makes me wonder if the production company has had enough of this family themselves (no doubt their demands are probably out of this world because they are so self absorbed and selfish) so they are not being as discriminating with the editing. Maybe the production company is trying to get out of their contract with TLC by getting the show cancelled?
There was absolutely nothing redeeming in the way Kate acted on this episode. She was just so horrible and not once did they show her in a good light. All I can say is what a horrible, horrible woman.
And what's the deal with Carla? We haven't seen her in well over a year...sorry, season (in Kon speak since they don't have "years" anymore, only "seasons"). I felt bad for her because even she seemed a bit shell shocked by Kate's behavior.
Anonymous said...
How rude was it that she was on the phone or texting/emailing almost the entire time (from what we saw in the episode)??! How can anyone be so rude?! It drives me crazy!
There was a running joke among my girlfriends a few years ago. It seemed like whenever someone declared "I'm done with babies" and had a yard sale (most included the potties, maybe it is a Pennsylvania thing!) they ended up pregnant a month or two later. It happened so often that we started joking about the Yard Sale Effect. Perhaps selling the strollers and potties is Kate's last bid to get that "single baby" experience she yearns for, LOL!
Anonymous said...
Well, I believe this was the most objectionable one yet - probably because the kids were in short supply and it was mostly all Kate, all the time - complaining, moaning, having one hissy fit another another. I was appalled. The Marine Corps missed a great D.I. when she didn't join up. How does anyone without hearing distance stand her?
I have counted cash at work left in donation boxes. Yes, money is dirty, but Kate didn't have to sort through bits of trash, wads of used gum, French fries, and so much dust it made me cough.
I do remember reading on their web site a long time ago that some company had made some strollers just for them.
