CNN clip on Paul Petersen Discussing Jon & Kate Plus 8

As many of you know, CNN and Headline News have been running a clip about "Jon and Kate Plus 8", specifically on the exploitation of the children, since last night. Paul Petersen of A Minor Consideration is interviewed - the Gosselins declined to be interviewed, so TLC issued a statement. And, and, and, Gosselins Without Pity and Truth Breeds Hatred were also mentioned in the story.

Eden has uploaded a copy of the clip on YouTube - thank you so much!

And thank you to Paul Petersen and CNN, specifically Brooke Anderson!

The clip mentions that no complaints have been filed with the Pennsylvania Labor Department - some of our commenters disagree with this. Contact the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board if you wish to be heard.

To the moderators at Gosselins without Pity: Thank you for bringing this exploitation and wrondgoing to light. I think you've finally made a difference. Good job on your hard work!

It's about time the main stream media takes notice. I'm afraid about what we will read about these kids 20 years from now. Jon and Kate need to get them out of the spotlight immediately. No amount of money is worth selling out your children's childhood. As you say in your book, put it in God's hands and ask him to guide you. I have a feeling he's going to guide you right out of the public eye.

Anyone have the link to the CNN feedback page on this?

Hmm...I don't know, it is good that exploitation has been brought up finally in the media, but it didn't sound like the reporter let alone the subject was being taken very seriously. As for the people who think that they are poor and not being paid much by TLC, the statement made by TLC should clear that confusion up. Interesting though that the statement only mentioned Kate being able to stay home to take care of the kids. We all know that they are making more than enough and that Jon is at home too. It was better than nothing I suppose but not exactly hard-hitting journalism.

I am happy to see this coverage in the media, however I think the only way TLC gonna yank J&K from the air is if everyone stops watching.

Anonymous said...

Unless someone who is or was close to J&K comes forward and files a complaint, no one is going to take it seriously. They are not just going to take the word of someone who knows the family but hides behind a blog to get her "message" out. That's why 20/20, dateline, and Nancy Grace probably will never touch it. They are going to want interviews with people close to the Gosselins.

Rosey in Washington said...

I hope that this is only the BEGINNING of the negative and TRUE facts behind Jon and Kate and the show.
I hope that Dateline or 20/20 is next to really dig in deep into the real facts and expose these two "parents" for what they really are!! And dont they realize that by NOT commenting and refusing to talk to CNN that they are publicly backing down??
If Jon and Kate have nothing to hide and are doing nothing wrong, then why wouldnt they want to defend themselves??? Oh thats right, maybe CNN wasnt going to PAY them for an interview...and as we all know money is the MOST IMPORTANT thing in Jon and Kates life. They are "celebrities" now and don't do anything without someone paying them. How pathetic.

You know, they didn't listen when their family told them this was wrong, they didnt listen when their friends told them this is wrong, so MAYBE JUST MAYBE they will listen to AMERICA when we say that this is wrong!!!!

The only reason I think people still like the Gosselins and love the show is ONLY for the simple fact that they aren't educated on all the real facts about them. I know that before I knew about this site and how awful Jon and Kate really are, I loved the show. I think that if more people REALLY KNEW what we all know, their show would get cancelled and there would be a million times more bad publicity about them!

I suppose you are referencing Julie. In no way do I want to sound like I'm speaking for her, but we don't what she does unless she blogs on it. I thought she mentioned many times that she does do other things. Besides, she didn't exactly hide when she and Jodi put out a video.

(I didn't mean this as a dig anon, I just thought you came off a tad harsh.)

Ok we now know who do email. I hope everyone who has concern for the kids sends a good email with good points regarding the kids. (lets not be silly they say they have had no concerns brought to their attention which I am in shock of.) Someone is listening for this to be on CNN.

homelife said...

Anonymous 12:34 - That's the thing, they have no one close to them anymore. No more Jodi, no more Beth, only the producers and camera crew, who sure won't report it.
It's great that this is finally getting some mainstream coverage. If people start looking into what is happening by looking at this blog or Julie's, then maybe viewership will decrease. Way to go CNN, and way to go Gosselins without Pity.

oh please don't use ONTD as a legitimate source. Aside from maybe five people, that's a whole lot of braindead in one place.

Anyway, I'm glad to see this getting (minimal) national attention. Even my kids are starting to get curious about the way the Gs are treating their children.

“Because of the show, the kids and the family have economic seciruty and the luxury of a mom who can stay at home and raise them.”

Ok, let’s just forget for a moment the fact that they didn’t acknowledge Jon’s lazy ass doesn’t work either, but does this ‘economic security’ mean they will stop panhandling the churches bi-monthly? Oh, and “the luxury of a mom who can stay home and raise them”…? Yeah, she CAN, unless, you know, she needs to jet off to hold Jon’s hand while he gets hair plugs, or she needs to speak for Proctor and Gamble, or K-Mart, and of course, beg at churches twice a month.

Who’s home with the kids raising them then?

iluveeyore said...

It seemed to me like the subject was being taken very seriously by both CNN and the reporter.

The comments by Jon and Kate were absurd... She: we're doing this because we wanted people to see our life (!) and we don't have time to take our own videos..." He: "I'd go to the ends of the earth for my children." What the hell does that mean?

I find it fascinating that TLC FINALLY made a statement. And their statement was absurd. They admitted that the family is profiting hugely. However, why did they mention that the MOTHER was home? What about the father also being home? That totally proves that the family's income is this show and the activities related to this show... they have no other source of income.

They also did not say one word about the help the parents are getting so that actually they do NOT have to interact with the children at all -- except when they are on camera.

As for the PA Department of Labor, I call BS. They have to be aware of the controversy about child labor and reality shows. Kate has called the show "the family job" and stated "our life is the show and the show is our life." What more do they need?

If you have not yet notified the PA Dept. of Labor, please do. This is the url for the PA Labor Relations Board:

http://www.dli.state.pa.us/landi/cwp/view.asp?a=136&Q=66181

Make sure you tell them that the children are, indeed, working.

Honestly, could you imagine seeing Jon and Kate up against a real journalist? Ha, that I would pay to see! The two of them can barely string a sentence together using both their brains.

Ok, while this report on CNN may not have been the most comprehensive thing in the world, what it will hopefully do is send more people to the internet and more people to GWOP so they can learn the truth.

I think the interview with Paul Peterson is a huge step.

I also think that this report probably resulted from all the email being sent to Nancy Grace. As it stands, the Gosselin story doesn't really fit her format which involves coverage of high-profile criminal cases.

There have been many episodes in which it is obvious that the children are "working"... not just "being themselves in front of the camera."

While I agree that ONTD isn't a great source of facts, it's interesting to see how casual viewers see the show. Even many of the defenders are admitting that the show needs to end soon.

Babies who just lie in a bassinet on a movie set, 'just being themselves', are protected. Are the Gosselin children not deserving of at least the same?

I guarantee you that TLC and Figure 8 do not love Kate and her kids, their only love is recognition and the almighty dollar. They are not doing this so Kate can stay home with her kids. Stupid TLC

Regardless whether or not the CNN piece and Petersen's involvement causes PA to take any formal action, the cat is out of the bag and things are going to start to unravel for J&K.

TLC's statement that the show has made Jon and Kate affluent enough that she can be a stay at home mom to eight children is not going to sit well with moms who needed to work to support far fewer children even before these tough economic times. Times that have so many families unable to make ends meet even with two incomes. Times when families are afraid of foreclosure on their small houses, just as Jon and Kate are having an 8,000 sq ft house built for them. I believe that this CNN piece, and hopefully there will be others like it, will have gotten the snowball rolling down the hill. It is only a matter of time before the sponsors no longer want to associate themselves with a show that their customers no longer can relate to, with stars that are not only not charismatic, but subliminally mock the economic plight of their own viewers. And certainly the TLC statement will make church and other civic groups think twice about paying them to speak.

So they wanted people to see their life and they would go to the ends of the earth for the children. Lets see they have gone to California for a hair transplant, New York for a tummy tuck,Florida to make memories but all those kids will remember is getting yelled at for spilling ice cream, Utah for making memories but all the kids will remember is Mom wanting to do laundry while the kids were making memories outside. I could go on, but yes Jon your right, you will go to the ends of the earth for your kids. As long as your getting paid for it and or your getting something FREE in the process.

Anonymous said...

Dear Readers,
Please think about this. TLC+The Learning Channel. What is anyone learning here? How NOT to raise and exploit your kids? I can't believe TLC would promote such exploitation. They are as greedy as the Gosselin's when it comes to money. No one talks about any other TLC shows, so TLC is happy to have the publicity and the ratings. It's obvious TLC doesn't care about these kids, neither do Jon and Kate for that matter. They both see nothing but dollar signs.

Anonymous said...

If I were the Gosselins, I would fire my PR firm immediately and find one that knows what they're doing. The fact that they were not coached for the GMA and Fox interviews allowed them to spout their usual lies - including pretending to be on a tight budget and stating that they allow the cameras in their home because we're all watching them at the store (Whaaat?). Now their own network, TLC, comes out and, in a HUGE error on their part, basically admits that J&K are liars by stating that they are being paid handsomely. There is obviously no proper communication between J&K and the PR firm, or the PR firm and TLC. It's all unravelling now and J&K's inability to manage themselves succesfully in an interview with a REAL journalist is going to be their biggest downfall because frankly, even properly coached by PR, they'll never be able to pull it off.

I hope this message gets through because I'd just like an intelligent debate on the issue.

I watch the program and am one to believe that if the children are being treated poorly, it should stop. Until now, evidence of this is sketchy at best, being mostly based on what is shown on edited television.

I do have to wonder though. If it did go down that protective services were brought in, or media coverage by other news programs was out there discussing the poor choices of the parents, how would that in turn affect the children? Would it not also be damaging?

I think now is the perfect time to e-mail or write to P&G, the Brown Bag Campaign, Gap—any company whose product has been touted on Kon's show and tell them about the CNN spot. Forward or give them the link to it. Also, Paul Peterson's credentials to speak on this matter aren't inconsequential. This should be mentioned in any correspondence. A Minor Consideration has been actively working for 20 years, and sponsors should be directed to Paul's website.

Probably not much will happen before the presidential election, but after that—and barring any hanging chads—the time will be ripe for an explosive news story. Let's make sure those who can make a difference are well supplied with information.

I gently suggest we forgot about Kate's dog butt hair, her greasy legs and all of the other irritating trivia. Now is the time to put our focus and our efforts toward getting some protection for the Gosselin children from the parents who are being supported by them and the film company that doesn't care.

OW, extreme eyeroll pain. So TLC admits it's not a documentary? Funny they claimed it was when I inquired as to the purpose of this show. Figure 8 didn't respond at all but TLC came off as all innocent gee, it's a documentary so hush.
So each of those dumb clips of Jon and Kate has a different excuse for why they are doing the show. Too tired, busy, lazy to film our children, people are nosy so we want to oblige them (WHAT!!!)and then they I'd do anything FOR my children (except protect them, give them as normal a childhood as possible and the stuff a decent dad would do!)
Off to get some aspirin for the eye rolling pain. I bet their PR spin doctors are all hitting the bottle of aspirin pretty hard too today.

Here's the website for the Whole Grains Council, sponsor of the brown bag lunch campaign.
http://www.wholegrainscouncil.org/

I wrote to them a while ago and expressed my displeasure about using Kate Gosselin as a spokesperson. Especially since she doesn't make sandwiches for her kids. She feeds them like they're attending a wine tasting....cheese, apples, crackers. Seriously, she's starving them, IMO.

They said they would forward my email to the appropriate department and thanked me for my concerns.

Will filing a complaint even help at this point? I'm not trying to discourage anyone from doing so, I was just thinking.... From what we have heard they are moving... probably to North Carolina? So will filing a complaint in Pennsylvania do anything?

Just curious.

And congrats to the owners of this blog and also to Julie for getting your points accross in CNN.

Whoops. TLC's statement that the Gosselins "now have economic security" that allows Kate to stay home and raise their kids goes against the entire Gosselin struggling facade. And it comes right on the heels of Kate's stumping for K-Mart's layaway plan and the brown-bag campaign. What a great way to contradict every single endorsement their "star" has gotten behind.

Also found it interesting that their statement referred specifically to Kate staying home but ignored the fact Jon is also there. Shouldn't they have worded it that it allowed the "parents" to stay at home?

I don't think it's TLC's or Figure 8's job to decide what's best for the Gosselin family. That's Jon & Kate's job which they delegated to the kids (Kate's gotta have someone to blame when it all blows up in her face).

It's nice to see that media other than the Enquirer is now starting to take notice. And they were fair in their presentation. It should be based on "if" the kids are being exploited, not assumed. And there should be an investigation and regulations put in place to protect any child on a reality show. In the Gosselins case I think 60+ episodes in a year is a huge red flag.

I was very happy to see this piece on CNN Headline News; the letter writing and emails appear to be working.

BUT I think that TLC's response was VERY carefully worded. Remember, that we are judging TLC's response based on what WE know to be true. I think that the average viewer believe that Jon is still gainfully employed, probably do not know about the "love offerings", speaking engagement fees and all the product placement/freebies. The TLC statement sends the message, to the average viewer, that this "little" show helps to subsidize the Gosselin's "regular income," allowing Kate to stay home with the kids and not have to work a full/part time job. How caring of TLC and how reassuring that all is well in the Gosselin household, thanks to the show and the extra income it provides.

Cynical? Maybe. But that's what I got out of it.

However, the CNN story is a start and hopefully other main stream news outlets will pick it up.

I sure hope this is true, and that is why I emphasize the importance of keeping this issue in the spotlight while it is still a fresh topic with CNN. So everyone please start posting feedback and let them know how many people saw their segment today and most off all how many are concerned and want this show cancelled before the Gosselin kids suffer thru one more day of this humiliating circus.

I wonder if Kon went to church this morning. I think CNN has presented their church with an interesting conundrum. The church has allowed the Gs to be filmed there, and some of their employees spoke on camera. Now mainstream media (MSM) is questioning if the Gosselin children are being exploited. Was the church complicit in the exploitation? I'm sure Figure8 contributed to the church's coffers in exchange for the filming. Were I the pastor, I'd be calling a board meeting about now.

Even if the exploitation charges cannot definitively be proved, they've now been noted on MSM. I can't see this as a good thing for Kon. Will K-Mart want someone accused of exploiting her children as a spokesperson? Will Gymboree or Gap want their clothes on the backs of little moneymakers who are supporting their parents? P&G? Brown Bag Campaign? Will Zonderbucks push the book any more? Hey, will Beth now speak out?

I agree Manda and I was thrilled to see Gosselins Without Pity featured as well as Julie's Blog.

I merely wanted to point out that TLC's statement may not be turning point that some might hope it to be.

If questioned about it, they have nothing to retract.

I hate to give TLC credit, but it was very well worded for the situation. Us "nay sayers" are happy because they "admit" that the show is supporting the Gosselins. But I'm pretty sure that most just view the show as extra income for the family.

But as you said: slow and steady, slow and steady. There will be some that, out of curiosity, will seek out answers on the internet. And if they google "gosselins" - will end up here :-)

Here's the thing about the "no complaints have been filed" in regards to the kids working. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain that PA doesn't have child labor laws regarding children working in television or film. If the kids were working at the local Burger King there are laws to protect them, but they can tape as much as they want, as many hours a day as they want, and there's no laws in PA to prevent that. How can people lodge complaints about broken laws if there's no laws on the books? I'm sure people have complained and they have been told that there's not any laws being broken....because none exist pertaining to kids on TV in PA.

Anonymous said...

This is very exciting news! How long have we talked about and wished for the mainstream media to get involved? Well, it's happened at last. I just want to thank all the mods at GWoP who are so committed and dedicated to helping the Gosselin kids. They have provided us a forum to be involved and get important information out there about the exploitation of the kids. I really think that we all need to keep doing what we've been doing - writing sponsors, media, publications, etc. and get the word out. Our efforts have made a difference. I think KON is going to reap the karma they have sown all these years and it will not be pretty. But - I am sure Aunt Jodi and other family will pitch in and help the kids to have a normal life. KON is just evil and the kids are suffering for it.

Abenteuer said...

Fantastic news for the kids- people are noticing. A couple of points... the reason they haven't received complaints regarding the law in PA is because it is very broad, however, I know of several people who have filed complaints about the broad law and filed complaints citing this show as an example.

Second-- I agree with other posters, TLC FINALLY admitted the show is for profit (not any kind of real research/documentary) and the family is reaping HUGE money.

Third, Jon and Kate have waffled so much on why they do the show, it's pathetic--- they just wanted to show people their lives? Bull. They call this show their job-- the family job. They're riding the gravy train- which is losing steam!

Obviously you are missing the issue at hand.
The issue at hand has aboslutely nothing to do with J & K being 'lovey dovey'.
J & K collectively and with the assistance of others have, and continue, to blatantly and with full intention exploit the Gosselin children for the purpose of monetary gain and self serving agendas. Period.

Brooke Anderson, the CNN reporter who did the piece, is a co-anchor of CNN's "Showbiz Tonight".
I think it would be wise to add that show to our e-mail writing campaign -

www.cnn/showbiztonight

They have a very easy form to follow and fill out and they often do segmented investigative pieces.

Kate is a "mother who can stay home"?
She's NEVER home! And when KON is home, they're mostly too exhhhaaasted or too crabby to be loving parents.

KON says, "We did (the show) so people could see our family."

O.K. We SAW them. Enough is enough; you can go away now.

The reporter reiterated the Gosselin credo: When the children don't want to do the show anymore, we are done.

Baloney! We've seen many an example of the children not wanting to do the show anymore: Mady's behavior, Cara's disappearance from the show, the sign on the twins' bedroom door, the sextuplet's total lack of discipline, constant crying, whining, fighting, falling apart.

Wouldn't anyone with half a brain see it's laughable and irresponsible to leave this life-altering decision up to four and eight year olds?

THANK YOU so much moderators and Julie for all of your hard work. You're SO appreciated.

Regarding TLC's comment that the show affords them a mom that can stay at home -
she DOESN'T stay at home. She is constantly looking for the next endorsement, the next speaking engagement, the next tummy tuck, the next spa appointment, etc.
The "economic security" part is also a joke at this point.
If they ended the show now and did yearly updates, neither of them would have to work if they could scale back their lifestyle - yeah, right.
I am sure that estate in NC came with many strings.
Sadly, I think if sponsors start to pull out because of the negativity of being associated with child exploitation, TLC will be forced to cancel the show long before KON will do the right thing.

I do not believe the show will be canceled but I do believe we will all have a part in getting laws passed to protect all children in reality shows. At the very least they should have a person present while filming who will be there to protect their rights and laws moderating actual filming hours.
Thank you GWOP, Julie, and Paul Peterson.
Money is never an excuse for exploitation.

Pam,

I apologize. It was not TLC that said they didn't receive complaints. You are quite correct.

"TLC FINALLY admitted the show is for profit (not any kind of real research/documentary) and the family is reaping HUGE money."
_____________
This, in theory, should be a huge red alert to the sheeple in the churches that KON is running a scam and do NOT have the best interests of their kids uppermost in mind. It will be interesting to see what the "Gosselin Speaking Engagement" calendar will look like within the next few days. On another note, I would be very curious to be a fly on the wall chez Gosselin this evening. CNN said they "declined an interview." I wonder if they are worried their gravy train may be grinding to a halt. On the other hand, their sense of entitlement and their enormous egos may enable them to simply fluff it off and give their usual "They're just jealous" retort. They are such losers. I also wonder if this CNN piece will push TLC to rethink the show. Maybe TLC is on the phone with their lawyers just to cover their as*es.

Pam,

I respectfully disagree. TLC said that they had received no negative comments about the show. I'm sure if we all printed off our automated responses which shows the date on them, TLC would have to face the lie.

I'm not sure where you are going here? Care to explain?

Pam,

I apologized to you a few comments up, as I was mistaken as to who it was that said they hadn't received complaints. I thought it was TLC, but it was the PA Labor Board.

BUT, if TLC had said they hadn't received any, I was suggesting that all of us who wrote to them and received automated responses in our inboxes, should print them off and send them in, or forward them back to TLC and CC them to CNN.

Maybe those of you who wrote to the PA Board still have a copy in your sent folder and could resend it, with the date recorded on it, and CC it to CNN. Then they would have to retract.

Sorry again, Pam, for the confusion.

I agree with the above poster that TLC worded their comment very cleverly. They know that the word is out that KON is making money off the show, so they wisely worded their comment to imply that this shows allows Kate to stay home with kids(letting viewers assume Jon is still working away in his closet). They did not say they were making "HUGE" amounts of money. Just implied that Kate may have to be working as a nurse away from her babies if this show was not on the air. Very clever of them!

Keep up the great work, Gals. It has been a long time coming, but progress is being made.

I thought it was very telling, in light of the recent Jon and Kate media bliz regarding the book release, that Jon and Kate would decline a CNN interview, lol.

As for the Labor Department stating that they have received no inquiry letters re: the PA child labor laws for children in the entertainment industry, I call BS. I have wrtten them, as well as the PA Attorney General's office and the Governor's office weekly asking for clarification of the Statutes as they relate to the Gosselin children. I did relate this fact in my comments to CNN regarding the Petersen interview and asked that they continue to look into this.

All I received was one automated reply form letter from the Governor's office.

Something tells me, however, that they will be answering those inquires now.

Again, congrats!

Why is it that they have to show the children being mistreated in order to take this show off the air. Doesn't having your life broadcasted for everyone to see when you are not old enough to give consent, count as mistreatment. These children are not guinea pigs or lab rats. People should not wait and see if the presence of cameras really have a lasting impact on these children. You only get one childhood that will shape the adult you become. In my opinion the presence of cameras intruding the home on a 3 or 4 times a week basis, showing their most private moments is enough to have some sort of effect. Whether a good or bad effect, it isn't fair to use these children's childhoods to find out.

I agree. TLC's comment was reminiscent to the likings of J & K with respect to their ploy of pulling at the heart strings of the sheeple in order to proove themselves worthy. The show offers J & K economic stability and the luxery of being a stay at home mom. In other words, there is no other way this family of 10 could possibly afford to financial provide for themselves if it werent for the show. If J or K, or both worked outside the home, those poor 8 little children would be forced in to the hands of day care. TLC's comment made themselves look like the 'good guy' by providing the means by which J & K have 'economic stability and the luxery of a stay at home mom'.

You know though us ignorant folk can just look at the Dilley's and put lie to the fact that the Gosselin's couldn't afford to have a stay at home parent without exploiting their innocent minor children so let me blow a raspberry at TLC's response. Oh, golly the kids may not all be matchy matchy in pricy duds from Gymbooree nor their parents get to have a farce of a renewal of vows in HI but they'd be a SAHM parent without the show it's just that the greedy grubbing Gosselins don't want to have to do without new platinum diamond bands, Ann Taylor loft outfits, spa days and all the other luxury benefits they gain by selling out the childhood of the kids. And all those churches that supported them while aware they were exploiting their children should also be ashamed. I was taught Jesus wanted adults to protect the children not use them for your benefit. So many people have disappointed me in their blind eye behavior towards these children being made to support their parents wants. I wish I could give Paul Petersen a gold medal. Yes, all children matter and celebrity is not what they need when they are minors.

Anonymous said...

I can't help but compare the Gosselins to the Dilleys, who seem much more grounded, hard working, and deserving of praise.

http://www.quintland.com/dilley/

In my opinion, the worst part of J&K+8 is that it's not about them as a family. The parents are always tearing the children down, instead of bringing them together. They dismiss hitting, yelling, and hurting each other as "sibling rivalry" or the hurt kid being a whiner.

Not every parent is the same, but it's not surprising that the children are so wild. Kate and Jon rarely seem to demonstrate empathy towards their children or anyone else.

What kind of values are they learning? Do they need the kids to act up, so there is something more to film than eight happy kids getting along?

The kids are doing the same job as child models. They do the same manufactured activities and photoshoots. There should be someone to protect their interests. It's sad that it's not their parents.

"Honestly, could you imagine seeing Jon and Kate up against a real journalist? Ha, that I would pay to see! The two of them can barely string a sentence together using both their brains."

They did back when they were fighting to keep the state paid nurse for their healthy kids. Then after the interviews realized they didn't come off well and called back and wanted to retract everything.

After their statements were printed Jon came to the Triplet Connection (username: Daddyof8)complaining how he would NEVER talk to the media again. All they do is MISQUOTE them. He warned all multiples parents there to NEVER go on TV or talk to the MEDIA EVER.

Then came back and asked for all his posts to be removed because old volunteers and media were stalking them.

We need some help on what to do. One of our Ex- trusted volunteers is writing
malicious blogs about us. How should we confront her? She is apparently
driving by our house and keeping tabs on our family. Freaky! We don't know what
to do. She wrote in public newspaper blogs (www.readingeagle.com) that we
should be reported to Children Services. I ask for what? She also suggested to
people that we give our babies up for foster care. What should we do? Can
someone email me on suggestions. We are very scared to make any moves. Right
now we are facing negative publicity form another coulumnist from the
Philadelphia Inquirer by the name of John Grogan. He has written 3
articles about us to draw negative support of our decision and he went on the
radio today to drum up even more. Why do these people want to hurt us I have no
idea. Please can someone offer some advise. Are there any attorneys out there.

My wife and I didn't know what to do so we opened our Bibles tonight and read to
each other. God sure has a way of working things out. We both prayed and it
eased our minds and hearts. Here are the 2 passages we thought were very
interesting. (Psalms 140 and 141)

1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men;
protect me from men of violence,

2 who devise evil plans in their hearts
and stir up war every day.

3 They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's;
the poison of vipers is on their lips.

4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked;
protect me from men of violence
who plan to trip my feet.

5 Proud men have hidden a snare for me;
they have spread out the cords of their net
and have set traps for me along my path.

6 O LORD, I say to you, "You are my God."
Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.

7 O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer,
who shields my head in the day of battle-

8 do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD;
do not let their plans succeed,
or they will become proud.

9 Let the heads of those who surround me
be covered with the trouble their lips have caused.

10 Let burning coals fall upon them;
may they be thrown into the fire,
into miry pits, never to rise.

11 Let slanderers not be established in the land;
may disaster hunt down men of violence.

12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor
and upholds the cause of the needy.

13 Surely the righteous will praise your name
and the upright will live before you.

1 O LORD, I call to you; come quickly to me.
Hear my voice when I call to you.

2 May my prayer be set before you like incense;
may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

3 Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD;
keep watch over the door of my lips.

4 Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil,
to take part in wicked deeds
with men who are evildoers;
let me not eat of their delicacies.

5 Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness;
let him rebuke me—it is oil on my head.
My head will not refuse it.
Yet my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers;

6 their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs,
and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.

7 They will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth,
so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave. "

8 But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD;
in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.

9 Keep me from the snares they have laid for me,
from the traps set by evildoers.

10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets,
while I pass by in safety.

He is truly amazing. I love the Lord our GOD!!! I sometimes forget who is in
control and the evil side of me pops into my brain. I guess as humans our
tendecy is to get revenge or lash back at others if they hurt us or our
families. But when you read the Good Book we must learn to forgive and pray for
the ones doing the wrong doings. This is very hard for me to do. All I can do
is try. :)

This is great - finally one shred of negative press on Jon and Kate Plus 8! I don't think most people understand how much money the Gosselins are making per episode...somehow without knowing the money factor, most assume that the kids aren't being exploited. If they knew about the money - I think a lot of people would think more about what is really going on here. This is the first step in getting the public to truly denounce the show!

Thank you to Gosselins Without Pity for your hard work and continued attention to this matter!

Seriously, I could write a book about how negatively I look at Jon and Kate and what they are doing to their children. But is it just me, or do other people look more at Kate as the "ring leader" of all of this???

Not that Jon is a saint by any means, but it has looked like to me over the last few episodes that he has kind of "said outloud" what alot of us were thinking?? For instance I can think of two examples right off the top of my head. 1) The Cupcate Gate episode where Kate was complaining about how she was scared that the kids were going to get messy in their church clothes and blah, blah, blah...and Jon said something along the lines of, "You should have changed their clothes then." then Kate said something like, "Well then you would have complained that you had to change 100 kids outfits." and Jon said, "Yeah but I would have rather changed their clothes and let them have fun rather them not being to have fun because you were too concerned with them getting dirty." Example 2: Last week when Kate was on a business trip and Jon watches the kids for 3 days. At the end of the episode Kate is trying to get Jon to tell the world how important she is and how much he realized that she does everything around the house, and Kate kept making him re-do it because his answer wasnt "good enough" for her and he just blurts out, "Take 20, Take 21." In my mind when he said that, I felt like he was pretty much exposing Kate for trying to get people to think the best of her.

I think that she is just horrible. I wish that she would just dissappear. I wish that GWoP had a weekly high ratings show so that we could have the same amount of coverage as Jon and Kate do when thet are fooling the nation into believing that they are "struggling." I think that if GWoP had the same platform as Jon and Kate, they would definately be exposed for who they really are:money-hungry, greedy, selfish, cocky losers who live off their children.

I am glad that CNN talked about them today, I just wonder what is going on in their heads now!

I could have written that post because I feel the same way.

Kate is a mentally unstable, greedy, deceitful b*tch. That is not up for debate.

The question mark is Jon. He enjoys his children, has a pretty good sense of humor, and has shown on numerous occasions that he knows right from wrong and that Kate is a freak. On the flip side, he lies just as much as Kate, he doesn't take any action to stop the insanity and he lets Kate walk all over him. It's so frustrating because Jon has it in him to be a good father - he needs to get away from Kate.

I have personally written to Fox, CNN, Gap, Johnson and Johnson and the Grains company doing the Brown bag campaign. I am not just sick to death of the loss of Childhood these poor kids are going thru because of their parents greed. I'm sick of Kate and Jon's lies!! I can understand having kids because you knew something was wrong. Great you got twins. Then again and you got 6 fine. But the second you began to lie, lie about the college funds, lie about the free clothing, lie about the personal chef, lie about all the freebies you get, lie about the money you are sitting on from his dad let alone from the show..it's just one lie after the other!! That down right PISSES Me off!! There are real people out there who have sent money, sent gifts, gathered things together...when we had our baby girl who I LOVE to heaven and back.my husband had lost his job. We were thankful for hand me downs, to this day we are. She was born with a heart condition and stays sick alot. We struggle to make sure she gets the food she needs, hand me downs, sales..coupons..that is second nature and my daughter looks DARN GOOD when she goes out! No one is going..oh my gosh that's not from Gap??!! No one every said ..oh that's a hand me down crib??! IT's stupid, it's selfish and it's vain..it's greed is what it is!! They can pray all they want and I wont dare sit here and say they aren't Christians..BUT I will say..one of the 10 commandments is thou shall Not LIE! And not only are they lying..they are using people and GOD HELP THEM!! Is this the legacy they want their kids to remember? Mommy and daddy lied and used us to get money and free things and then their lies were found out and this is what people think of us or remember of us??! If jon and kate were being honest about their blessings I would not have as much of an issue as I do, but they are not. They intentionally mislead and lie to people, church's anyone who wil llisten and paint a picture of a hard ship life that does not exist. Who know's maybe it does to kate because someone expects her to get out of bed in the morning and lift her finger. Maybe to her that is her hardship. If you don't want the work of kids, you shouldn't have them! Children' are blessings from God, not to be used as a money marking, get rich quick scheme!

I agree ... the TLC comment was carefully worded to be undeniably *true* ... and yet still misleading.

Yes, it's true they're more financially secure ... yes, it's true their mother stays home. But it completely avoided talking about Jon's employment status.

Have you ever went surfing on the other random J&K blogs out there? You'd be shocked how many people ASSUME Jon still works ... because they haven't said anything different on the show. Dozens upon dozens of people say, "Well, the last I heard was that he got a job with more flexible hours ..."

So ... yes, TLC's statement is factually true. It's also a lie of omission by not touching on issues of the children's wellbeing and the fact that their father ALSO stays home.

It does look like the facade is starting to crack ...

"So ... yes, TLC's statement is factually true. It's also a lie of omission by not touching on issues of the children's wellbeing and the fact that their father ALSO stays home."
While TLC's statement may very well be factually true, I fail to understand why TLC in their own round about way justified the decision for J & K agreeing to do the show and not that of the actual premise of the show. The issue at hand is whether the Gosselin children are being exploited by reality tv. IMO, it would seem rather damaging to the integrity of TLC and its reputation as a whole to make a statement that willingly places itself in a position of support by association. IMO It would be in the best interest for TLC to remain neutral and comment staying within the premise of the show and not that of the 'justifier'. Isnt that that the job of J & K's PR team?

Anonymous said...

While I am obviously worried for these kids and think the parents don't always do the right thing, I am hesitant to bring this to the government. I say stop the show and/or do updates, as I think most of us would like to see how the kids turn out, but I worry that if the government gets involved with the labor issues, Social Services will come along. What will happen if the kids get taken away from their family and split up, which could be a possibility if the parents and show are seen in violation of labor laws, and J+K are seen as negligant or exploiting their children. Wouldn't that cause more damage? I think it's a fine line and, in the intrests of the children, the issue should be looked into HEAVILY to see the best way to procede. Sudden, drastic changes can seriously hurt children, even those who aren't in the public eye.

The comments by Jon and Kate were absurd... She: we're doing this because we wanted people to see our life (!) and we don't have time to take our own videos..." He: "I'd go to the ends of the earth for my children." What the hell does that mean?
--------------------------------
I think she's also said it was a way to "raise awareness of our family and our show." Why do they need to raise awareness?? I'm sorry, but do people need to be aware of their family and show? Is there some life changing information we can take away from all this?

As for Jon's comment....we can all totally see now how willing they are to go to the ends of the earth for their children: hawaii, utah, florida.....

10/19/2008 4:08 PM

When I spoke to an investigator at the PA Child Labor Dept. today, he told me that he had never had such a case before, but that the case was still being looked into and that the Gosselins needed a permit in order for the children to be working.

I completely agree with you. I think that them wanting to adopt a baby from Korea is just a publicity move for the show, and to make sure that their ratings will not fall at all. Like they have said before, "The show is their life, and their life is their show."
Obviously its all a PR move. I mean, I think that if it wasn't a PR move and just something to keep the people watching, Kon would NOT have ANNOUNCED IT ahead of time on more than one media source.
Oh yeah, and lets not all forget that of course Jon CANT work because he has to be available at all hours of the day to DRIVE Kate around. LOL.

-------------------

Jon and Kate do quote scripture EVERY SINGLE WEEK on their website under the "Devotionals" section. Kate said that it is her "goal" to blog about one of her favorite verses once a week for the next whole year.
What she does is quote a Bible verse, and then tells the world how that verse relates to her life and what she has "learned" from the verse. A couple of weeks ago here was her entry:

"Romans 12:21 NIV Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

This verse is very fitting right now. I heard it on the way to church this morning while listening to a kids' Steve Green CD 'Hide 'em in Your Heart' with my family. We always listen to music on the hour long drive on Sunday mornings. This verse jumped out at us so much so that we listened again!
Right now, there are so many opportunities for us to repay evil with evil but we refuse. And it hasn't been easy to keep our mouths shut, but it's what God is asking us to do. Continue to overcome evil with good. Things like love, prayers, and kindness instead of retaliation and exposure.
We pray that we make wise decisions and pray they we are able to submerse ourselves in God's word so that we make wise word choices. And above all, never lose sight of the love we need to have for those around us...neighbors, strangers and family alike no matter what!
We are works in progress and that's what we are working on now....repaying good for evil....."

First of all, did anyone just throw up a little bit in their mouth like I did the first time I read this?

I find what Kate wrote to be VERY passive-aggressive. I mean, with this verse and her interpretation of it, she is pretty much calling out Aunt Jodi, Julie, and the others who have come clean with the truth about Jon and Kate and at the same time she is IMO pretty much saying, "But Im better than them and Im not to talk about it." But HELLO Kate, by writing what you wrote you ARE talking about it, not to mention the statement you and Jon had on your page when all the news first came out.

You and Jon stated that you guys were "not going to be retaliate and are going to love these family members reguardless..." but isn't making these kind of statements retaliation in itself? Also, you and Jon stated that you were going to "love these family members reguardless...", so I take it you show love in the form of ignoring, belittling, and shutting out all your family members??
Wow Kate, Im SO glad that you are on TV every single week so that all of us women in America can have someone so sweet, honest, and LOVING as you to look up to.(eye rolling)

I think it is great that CNN finally picked this story up. We here have to continue full force with advocating for the children. I disagree with one of the posters that said goverment does not need to be involved. Goverment very much needs to be involved so this situation can be looked into and laws can be passed. These children are part of a modern day reality tv expirement. How many of you would like to awaken from a sleep and have a camera right in your face first thing in the morning? How many would of you ladies would like to be filmed in your nightgown or nude? Then have to wake up and go to work the next morning to be the talk around the water cooler. My point these children have feelings and they need addressed. Adults have a tendency to skim over that fact when it comes to these children because they see them as a source of entertainment and not real subjects. I know that a lot of women with children take a trip down memory lane and remember their own children, when the see the G's kids. I would like to ask these same mothers do your children have emotions? Or are you the type to just skim over their emotions like the 2.4 mil viewers do the Gosselins kids every Monday.

Just my opinion... BUT i feel companies like the GAP, P&G, Kmart, Juicy Juice, ect are being hurt more by the Gosselins than helped. Here is my reasoning. WHO had never heard of the GAP until they watched Jon & Kate? WHO saw the GAP fleece on one of the kids and had to run to the local mall and walk into the GAP for the first time ever and buy a shirt cause Joel Gosselin was wearing it? WHAT mom bought Juicy Juice for the first time because it had Kate Gosselins stamp of approval on it? WHAT website wrote hundreds of letters to Proctor and Gamble saying that they had never used any of their brands before but now will use everything because of the show???? NOW..... HOW MANY people have stopped going to the GAP because they are so discusted with the company's affiliation with the show?? HOW MANY moms have scoffed at JUICY JUICE's stupidity and bought MOTTS instead?? HOW MANY letters of discust have Proctor and Gamble receied just from readers of this blog alone?? Lets think people... this is not a smart move on theese company's parts. The only publicity that i think a compant would benifit from is the small town/organic/resort syle ones. And in my opinion.. i much rather go somewhere that I saw on a poster donating money to cancer reserch, ronald McDonald house, a trip for a terminally ill/disabled person that was fetured on the news.. or a news article i read about a young family of multiples that had honest motives and a solid foundation, that just needed a little headstart but were planning on giving back to the community... thats just my opinion.. here is one for you TCL.. lets see the stars of this show run a food drive, work at a soup kitchen, do an "organic" bake sale for the humane society, cash in cans for a youth group,or DONATE their (dontated) belongings to another set of parents with multiples...and lets see it in the paper.. NOT on the show.. Just my opinion...

So after all of this has occurred, Jon and Kate still make the choice to put their children on display?

Seriously, all you have to do is go to the website of whichever sponsor you wish to contact and there will either be a "contact" link or a "customer service" link. The link is usually in a banner at the top or way down near the small print at the bottom. It is very easy.

Finally the media is seeing the light or rather the darkness that KON is bringing on their household. And thanks to GWOP - many others are finding out for themselves that they are being deceived by these people. AND fans of the show (like myself) are getting a wake up call - seeing that this show is going/has already had negative effects on these innocent children.

This all reminds me a bit about watching Animal Cops: Detroit, on the Animal Planet channel. At the beginning its so very hard to watch, but you just keep watching hoping for the positive outcome. (and there usually is), but what gets me thinking is how did it get this bad to begin with.... didn't anyone in the neighborhood notice that "your neighbor" had 12 pets, didn't have enough time to properly give most the love and attention they needed, and when they decided to add one more, noone spoke up? Keep up the good work, it's easier for me to watch Animal Planet than TLC at this point with my kids...

Thank you soo much to Paul Peterson for putting this out there on this news outlet.

People are taking notice. Thank the Lord. We care about these Kids, Paul Peterson cares about these kids.

Did Jon and Kate actually say that they will do this show as long as the kids want to??
I don't believe for one minute! that they take the kids' feelings or opinions into consideration on whether they do this show!!
I am hot steaming mad about this!

And the release that TLC gave!! Give me a "blanking" break!!
I am so p*****!
And ofcourse Jon and Kate had nothing to say in response. What would they say?!

Watch the Roloffs' show Jon and Kate and take some notes.

I'm sorry for my "angry" language but, I am mad for those children who have No voice in this matter. Just wait til they grow up, there will be a lot of resentments. And they very well may not want to have anything to do with their parents. Just as Kate has nothing to do with her family. These two may be very lonely when these kids grow up and leave the nest.

I agree with the poster who said that the only way this show is going to be taken off of TLC is when the ratings go down. That's not likely to happen. Those who love the Gosselins and those who hate them are obsessed with Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Their ratings aren't going anywhere but up.

Honestly, probably not many. Not to sound mean, but it's fact that (most) people when in a hurry to buy things at the grocery store really just want what they've always picked out.

I know that some people disagree with me on my affection for the Duggars. Last night i made my husband watch both shows, we discussed how amazing it was to watch a mother of 17 remain calm, collected, and respectful, all the while loving, interacting, respecting, and laying down the law for her children, not at all talking about how bad she has it, and how people need to help her, and she DESERVES help becuase society allows her to have 17 children. IMO kate could learn alot from michelle. My DH pointed out that the older children help ALOT in that family, which they do, HOWEVER, dont the gosselins have help? and they take their kids grocery shopping with them. THere is one thing the duggars have that IMO the gosselins are missing.. LOVE. Bottom line. I really liked the part where they showed all their sources of income outside the show. Wake up Jon & Kate.

THANK GOD for Paul, GWOP & Julie!! I truly commend you guys for standing up for these kids! Paul is right when he said in his interview about the cameras changing people. Jon is not the same person my husband knew grewing up w/. Its too bad that greed has gotten the best of him. I just hope that more news channels pick up on this, like Fox News.

I was reading the article in NE I believe with Paul Petersen and it read that "Jon and Kate are also supported by a wealthy relative." Who is this wealthy relative that still supports them?

---------------------------------

I believe it's Jon's dad, who was a successful dentist (and apparently, a very nice man!) but he passed away a few years ago. He must have left a trust fund for Jon.

" because of the show the kids have the luxuary of a mom who can stay at home and raise them"

except when she's at the spa, speaking engagement, getting hair plugs or tummy tucks...ect. ect. ect.

Why is it so hard for people to see that this show is the exact same as the Dionne quintuples, except with technolgy.

I also sent a very respectful email to the Phillies. I did note in my email that because of the World Series, I understand they have other important things going on, but wanted to express my disappointment.

And, I sent an email to The View asking them to investigate Jon and Kate for possible discussion in the Hot Topics segment of the show.

Sabrinamom wrote earlier that after all of the drama Jon described regarding an ex volunteer they decided to do the show. That is bad I agree but what about TLC's decision to pick up this show after all the negative publicity J & K received. The Reading Eagle told the story regarding free nursing they requested, past the one year. This case was going to court. They refused volunteer help in lieu of requesting state paid nursing they were not intitled to, even as Jon had received an inheritance from his fathers estate. Reader comments to the paper were very harsh against J & K. This included Kates refusal of unmatching cribs, Walmart clothes, negative comments about a house renovation done for them. Personally I think J & K had some outside friends help advising them to do the show, as a way to help financially, maybe not to the extent this has become today. I also wonder now that this has become such a fiasco where are the family and friends, why cant they add something to at least put and end to this for the kids sake.We hear nothing from anyone. Honestly as much as this blog has done to bring to light its message, in support5 of the children; two things come to mind for me.
1.) TLC has a cash cow in advertisements from a top rated show as we have heard.
2.) Jon has always said he would do whatever he had to for the kids. While I do not think this is what he should do he is convinced that this is the best for his family.
Trying to convince either party that the kids are suffering is going to be very difficult as any negative comments result in deletion, or exile, or avoidance.

GOOD GOOD GOOD!!! Thank GOD that something is being done about this, that the Gosselin's are being shone for who and what they really are - monsters and parents who are failing miserably!! Thank you GWOP and thank you Aunt Jodi for coming forward! Hopefully this show will be ending very very soon!
