Heading South / Wild Horses

TLC is airing two new Jon & Kate Plus 8 episodes tomorrow night (Monday August 11th).

The first is a 30-minute feature starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern titled Heading South:
Jon and Kate want to combine a speaking engagement in the South with a family trip to the beach, so they pack up for the drive, but the long car ride may pose a challenge to the sextuplets.

The second is a 30-minute feature starting at 9:30 p.m. Eastern titled Wild Horses:
Jon and Kate take the kids on a ride in a Jeep as they track wild horses along the beach. Later, a climb up a lighthouse reveals one of them is afraid of heights.

Interesting comment from Corolla Outback Adventures (emphasis added):
Jon and Kate Gosselin of TLC's "Jon and Kate Plus 8", recently brought their twins and sextuplets on a working vacation.

The fruits of that work, featuring staff from Corolla Outback Adventures, will be shown Monday, Aug. 11 at 9:00 p.m. on The Learning Channel. The Gosselin kids will supply the adventures.

I can't wait to hear what Kate says about the heat in NC. during this episode. It has been a very hot summer with wicked humidity. She may want to stay up in PA after this little trip. I'm keeping my fingers crossed - I'm from Raleigh :)

It's one of the sextuplets that they find out is afraid of heights I think.

Working vacation? Now J & K actually 'work' outside the home and have found the time between raising a family, filming a reality tv show, and their speaking engagements to combine this so called 'work' with a vacation? Or, are J & K finally going to admit the truth in this episode that traveling all over the United States and reaping the benefits of 'love offerings' from vulnerable and ill informed speaking engagement audiences is to be considered as their 'work'. The credibility of TLC, its producers, J & K, and this reality show in general continues to plummet to new depths episode after episode!

The excitement is just too much for me. I hope there isn't a tour guide who tries to explain anything this time (such as the Thomas show), we really don't want those kids learning too much at once, they may grow up and then the real RIDE will be over.

The wild horses run in the town of Corolla and on the southern shores of the Outer Banks from Corolla. You need a 4-wheel drive to traverse the beach.

The last time I was there, the Corolla lighthouse charged $6 per person to climb it.

My family and I have been going to the Outer Banks for many years, staying in houses from Southern Shores to Duck to Corolla. We will be staying in Corolla this September. We found the Outer Banks to be quiet and beautiful. I hope it isn't too boring for the Gosselins. (I also hope, if I watch the show, that they will not ruin the Outer Banks for me.)

We were there when they were moving the Cape Hattaras lighthouse and we have been to the Lost Colony show at Okracoke several times (we took different friends of the kids). Shortly after we were married, my husband and I stayed at Kill Devil Hills with friends and my husband tried hang gliding (never getting off the ground), which is a very big deal there. Maybe Jon and Kate could try hang gliding.

It's too bad the Gosselins won't be going to see the site of the first "hair pain" ride at Kitty Hawk. Doesn't Jon like trips to be "educational"?

In the coming attractions they show them packing dishes and silverware. All the houses come with dishes and silverware -- but I guess that would be too "icky" for Kate. They also have dishwashers. I wonder if she's taking bedding, towels, and her very own toilet paper! (I'm sure she will be taking her potties.)

P.S. We already knew that Kate and Mady have agoraphobia -- cf. the trip to California.

I think one of the little kids was wearing a Kitty Hawk t shirt in another episode. Perhaps they did go?

I too go to the beaches of Outer Banks every year and have been doing so for a long time (about 20 years). It is a beautiful place, very peaceful, and very family oriented. We have always stayed in Duck or Corolla.

When I first figured out that this had to be where they were going these were my thoughts...

* They have to be staying in one of the houses in Corolla just like we do (there are tons of rental houses and many are just huge). Wonder who paid for that? And there is usually not maid service, so did TLC hire a maid? I know Kate was not going to clean.

* There are swimming pools attached to most of the houses. I know that the twins know how to swim, do the tups? It's got to be hard to watch 8 small kids in a pool. Bet TLC hired a babysitter! Or they took Jenny!

* Most houses have nice long driveways - great for the Gosselin kids to play on - but people are very friendly, so you may have an issue there.

* Then, after seeing them load up in the previews, it was OMG - are they going on vacation or moving in? We vacation with 4 families down there and lots of kids of all ages (about 10 total) and we never take that much stuff! We take bikes, food, clothes, linens, toys, etc and we have never had to pull a trailer. Mostof what I pack for my kids is shorts, shirts, pjs, bathing suits and sandals. Then I do laundry during the week with all the other Moms and the kids wear it all over again.

Can't wait to see this - I will never look at the trip in quite the same way! Just hope that I can look at the place the same way (one "Gosselins were here" sign and that may do it for me!

Do J & K and the Gosselin family ever stay home? I have lost all concept of what this reality show is actually supposed to represent. Is it the goal of TLC to intentionally insult the entire 'working class' population? While every other working class American family whether it consists of one , two or eight children struggle to keep up with the rising cost of the economy and are pinching pennies just to put gas in the car and food on the table. J & K are MORE OFTEN THEN NOT seen galvanting across the country from one vacation spot to the next without a worry or care in the world. I just dont get it???
I think TLC has lost all concept of what is REALITY!

The comments at the end of this blog, are they a quote from Corolla Outback Adventures? I think that is what you are saying, but just want to make sure. Is this company like a dude ranch, could they mean that type of working vacation?

Yes they are. The underlined word "comment" in this blog entry, if you click on it, you will be taken to the page where that comment was made by Corolla Outback Adventures.

Powell said...

I think what they mean by "working" vacation is that the show was being filmed, so even though it was a vacation they were working by being filmed.

Interesting that Corolla Outdoor Adventures sees this as work, but Jon and Kate see it as fun for their kids and as just another "field trip" or "vacation".

Demonstrating once again that there needs to be legislation around children being used in reality programming. It really is work for those kids and they deserve to be protected.

I have been reading this blog for a while, but have never posted. When I saw that they were going to OBX I just had to say something! I just hope they ca actually enjoy this trip and not complain about anything! We go out to Hatteras Island every year and we love it! Can you imagine Kate out on the island???? Good thing they aren't going that far out! I think there is only one spa and I don't tnink it would be up to her standards.

iluveeyore said...

I agree. I really don't want to hear Kate complaining about the Outer Banks.

I too do laundry while we are there and we do not take "the kitchen sink," even with my 1-1/2 year old granddaughter. You can get houses with cribs and high chairs. And you can usually get maid service, daily, for an extra charge. We have never needed it or wanted it. Everybody pitches in. It's fun.

i enjoy the show but i love i mean love the outer banks was just there in june with my kids for the first time. i hope it will now NOT be over-crowded with their new found publicity... anyways, have been on the cordova to see the wild horses i wonder if aaden will be able to keep back 50 or if Kate will freak out with everything going on... can't wait to watch and re-live my recent 2 week vacation.

I just got back from another weekend at the Outer Banks and am excited to watch the show tomorrow. Publicity is great for the merchants and business owners in the outer banks. I have noticed in my 6 visits so far this year that not as many people are there (maybe due to gas prices???). I for one am not going to complain about a show advertising OBX to the rest of the nation. Most all of these businesses are owned by locals and rely entirely upon an active vacation season to stay out of the red.

xsandlapper said...

I haven't been to the Outer Banks in years so it will be nice to see that area again. Whose idea was it to put the tups in jeeps and Kate anywhere near sand? Recipes for disaster 101? What souvenirs will they find to take home this time? ;-)

Anonymous said...

I was the poster hoping that this was some sort of company that did working vacations, like a dude ranch. I looked up their website. They give tours of the wild horses, people sit in a jeep and admire the beautiful horses, no work involved. They really did mean that the Gs were there on a working vacation. Good grief.

Is this TLC's new way of trying to explain why all the trips and no filming at home?

MommySusan1 said...

I think when the guy said "working vacation", it was his unbiased impression. He probably doesn't watch the show, so to his eyes, a group of people who come to town and have every moment filmed are "working" (honest opinion, if you ask me). There may be some vaction-y moments, but the most important aspect is work.

As a member of John Q. Public, he has no idea that these poor kids are always working. Hopefully in their dreams, there are no cameras, just a Mom and Dad who love them for who they are, not how many freebies they can rake in.

We go to the Outer Banks for ONE week in September so that it is emptier and quieter... and cheaper. I think the area is "famous" enough. Every other vehicle I see has OBX on its bumper (in Northern VA).

That jeep tour seems to be new. I've never seen it advertised anywhere before. I would love to partake, but I doubt that I (and my entourage of 6) will be able to afford it. I have been on those beaches with our own 4-wheel drive vehicles, but it is nerve-wracking since I worry that we're going to get stuck in the sand (shades of Katie). THERE's something for Kate to worry about -- getting stuck in the sand.

**Is it the goal of TLC to intentionally insult the entire 'working class' population? ~ I think TLC has lost all concept of what is REALITY!**

per anon 8/10 2:57 - i smell a comment of the week candidate!

long time lurker, first time poster - i'm going anon myself b/c i post frequently in some highly publicized boards who i *know* lurk this blog, in large part to my posting the link.

fwiw, after everything is said and done they are all in need of our prayers. those who we dislike the most are usually the ones who need prayer warriors. for the kids, the parents, their marriage, their relationships with the kids. the best end result is for an obvious change of heart within their own household and to allow charity, love and respect back into the home.

i am the same age as j&k and while dh and i do snip at each other from time to time, we have *never* done it to each other in public and certainly not in front of polite company (or would we in front of cameras). my oldest is 12, so i've got a few more years of parenting on them. i have a 12yo, 7yo, 3yo, and 8 month old. there isn't a day that goes by without a lot of verbal "i love you" and loads of hugs and kisses.

i think it's important to share our parental shortcomings with our children *when necessary*. if i was unnecessarily harsh with my children i have no problem telling them i shouldn't have gotten so upset and i never waste an opportunity to tell them i love them.

with j&k we have two scenarios. either the editing is done in such a way that we never see the admission of wrong doing on the part of either parent in the presence of the children (which i would suspect would be a good reason to demand change in the editing process) *OR* the footage is just a reflection of what actually happens. i suspect the latter is the case. the embarrassing moments was proof of the inability to right past wrongs and really hit a homerun with their remaining loyal fans.

i think a slice of humble pie is in order...and soon. humility and charity would benefit this family greatly.

Another trip...surprise, surprise. I used to adore this show because it was so cute, but Lord, anymore it's "Gosselins go here" and "Gosselins go there". It's getting old fast.

I have a question: Are the tups starting pre school this year? And didn't Kate say she was doing pre school at home? I can't remember the exact episode but it was the one where the Kate made the comment that she did not let them cut enough so she was drawing lines on paper and letting them cut them out and she had marker pens for them to trace their names with so they could learn to hold a pencil.

Anyone in Central VA who can think of where that first house with the horse barn could be? I've been doing an MLS search because I'm curious what "love offerings" can buy these days. You know, with the dollar so weak in the US, it would be interesting to see what a love offering dollar is worth right now.

I have climbed to the top of several lighthouses around the Great Lakes. The majority require that all climbers be over twelve and wear closed-toed shoes, not sandals and crocs. These guidelines are for safety, but such rules do not apply to the Gosselin children. Is this another special privilege to them? I do not know, but how many would want their four-year-olds to climb up 166 feet let alone 166 stairs in crocs?

Evileye said...

It was an absolutely beautiful area... That said I hope the children enjoyed the trip.

BUT

My boyfriend and I watched Kon looking at houses, I have no words. I really hope that people stop donating money to them. This is all kinds of wrong. How can they ask for more freebies, when its obvious they don't need them anymore? If they had any conscience they would not accept them or at least pass it on to more deserving.

With that said, these 2 episodes were pure damage control. I hope though that sheeple will realize that a family that can afford such an estate do not need charity. They should be donating to charity instead.

hellokitty said...

"I don't even want to hear you breath." Wow.

And what was the deal with Kate wearing sunglasses on top of her head, and another pair over eyes?! Crazy.

I feel absolutely sick. What I would give to be able to take a 2 week vacation like that with my family. Not only could NEITHER of us TAKE 2 weeks off from work all at one time, we could never afford that type of trip.

They just don't appreciate how fortunate they are to be able to experience things like this. But I guess if they don't appreciate the 'little' things in life (like having 8 beautiful and healthy children) they can't be expected to appreciate anything at all. It's becoming too difficult for me to watch.

TLC/Figure 8.....I'm done.

Gotta defend jon on the "shut your mouth," comment. Hate to say it, but when i've been trying to do something requiring concentration and focus, I have been known to tell my kids to "shut it down." Not nice, i know, but sometimes you just. can't. think.

though i realized all the noise was the result of the fact that the kids were in the car while he tried to back the trailer in. gah! honestly. pull the van in frontwards, get the howler monkeys out, then attempt the trailer backing, which yourself say you are bad at (and i can't do either so not knocking him.)

and can i point out for the record, one more time, please JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE 8 KIDS DOESN'T MEAN YOU NEED A HUGE, CUSTOM MADE HOUSE! ok, thank you. Because Kate especially kept saying "we need more space, we don't have enough space." or jon commented "renovating is a waste of time. why take a structure that's already there and change it." Nothing will meet our needs, we need a custom house.

Lots of families have made do just fine with houses that weren't custom made. Lots of families of 9 or 10 or more have survived quite well in houses that weren't 4,000 square feet.

And if my math is correct there is enough room in the gosselin house for everyone to have their own space. If each person took a room (counting the master bedroom closet) each person could be in a room all by themselves, with all 10 people home. I'm counting Kitchen, Twin's study room, Master Bedroom, Master closet, two rooms in basement, living room, boy's room, little girl's room and twin's rom. That's not even counting the bathrooms and as the second oldest of 7, i can say from experience some times you just have to hide in the bathroom. (pick an off peak time ;)

My hubby was laughing at me because he knew it was killing me that they were here and I didn't know. But then again, what would I have done? It doesn't seem that the like to interact with strangers.

I don't think that this was a good advertisement for the Outer Banks. The just kept saying they were in North Carolina. They could have been at any beach in NC. Did they ever say they were in OBX?

I've been a lurker for some time now, but I just got done watching the Heading South episode and I just can't take it anymore.

This whole episode I was thinking that the Gosselin's are living in lala land and that J&K are so ungrateful, it's almost bringing me to tears. I read here a few days ago that they bought their current house for $280k (I think it was here...). So I know every city is different, but give me a BREAK! My husband and I live in a $120k house in what I would say is a blue collar working class neighborhood. That amount of money can buy a whole lotta house here, in a very nice neighborhood. Most of the people in this area that live in that nice of a house are executives, doctors, lawyers, etc. not stay at home parents. If we had 8 kids we would NEVER in a million years be able to afford that (we can't now with just one). And I would never pimp my kids out so that we could afford it! Then complain that it was just too small and that we needed to move to something bigger and more expensive. Nothing will ever been good enough for her, IMO. If I was Kate, I'd be thanking my lucky stars every day (and making sure that it was in every episode for the world to hear). It makes me sad how many people they have disposed of that helped them get where they are today.

Has she never heard that love grows best in little houses?

p.s.
did anyone else catch that disneymom on imdb used the word untruths? the same word that was used on the Gosselin's website a few weeks ago?

If I had wanted to see an excursion to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I would have tuned in to the Travel Channel. [Kate bitches.] Drive for hours, [more bitching - and "peeing"]arrive, unload crap and kids, take a tour, drive more, see a few shots of "sights." Kate is exhausted and bitches some more. What's the draw here? Those kids are dragged around like a herd of cattle. Is there ANY chill time for them? Gee, I can hardly wait for Hawaii!!

I know the looking at property is all a ruse to make us think they are still undecided about where they are moving. They are going through the motions for the benefit of the camera and viewers at home. They went from looking at a house, to land, (and oh no, PLEASE not in Va, my backyard!) to saying how they need to build because it's so complicated. No one has ever had 8 kids before I guess. I am one of 7 so, believe me, you have it just fine.

My husband and I noticed, they are looking at property without regard to proximity to a job. Interesting. Of course, you may defend them saying he works for himself, blah blah, but the bottom line is, the family business is filming their business, in the bathroom, on vacations, "sort of" reality and the like.

____
Kate said that they are looking at some time next summer (2009) to make the move. This could mean that they will be building a house and it will take about that long (although I think they can through up a Mcmansion pretty damn quick). You never know what to believe with these two slugs - their whole world is a lie they've created and perpetuate. Do they think we're stupid?!

My husband and I noticed, they are looking at property without regard to proximity to a job. Interesting. Are they making enough money so that neither will ever have to work again? How will Kate function without her hair being done, the spa, an assistant, a house keeper, a chef and so on and so forth? Good luck with the way she likes to spend. I recognized her Ann Taylor shirt, where all impoverished mothers of 8 shop. It brought to mind her honeymoon video. "Let's go shopping." I'm sure she'll let Gymboree, Gap, Juicy Juice and all the rest know her new address.

Did people notice how Kate handled the Alexis early rising problem in NC? She had Alexis room with Jenny. I was an au-pair in high school and I had to sleep in the same room with the two little girls I took care of when the family went on vacation. It was horrible. I never had a second to myself and it was stressful. I assume Jenny is so highly compensated, she is managing it.

I also thought of looking into MLS in VA for that first home they looked at. Someone should mapquest from their PA home to a major area in VA along a major interstate. I thought it came across the bottom of the screen that they were 5 hours into the trip. Acreage plus a horse barn, plus a custom home?? The 'love offering' business must be pretty lucrative.
As a side note-I wonder if Jon is collecting unemployment benefits as well??

Yes, that's all this show is now. The kids are just props. It's all about Kate. I wonder if she's bucking to get into acting - her own series or something. She can leave the kids at home with Jenny, Jon can get a bigger closet in the new place and then, at least, the kids will get a break and just live their little lives.

Sera said...

The "I don't want to even hear you breathe" and the "shut your mouths" comments were just too much. Evil!!! get the kids out of the car if you need quiet to back up the van! And that was some poor editing on TLC's part - all we saw was Joel crying and his parents scolding him. What happened to make him cry in the first place?

I just kept saying throughout the whole episode, how could they afford to buy that house? How could they afford to rent that beach house? how could they afford a custom, personal tour by the owner of the adventure company? Do the sheeple just not see what is going on?! These people make me bang my head on my desk on a daily basis.

I have to say, though, Kate looked like she was enjoying herself on the beach, and she did look really nice in the white top and blue skirt. I don't know what was with the double sunglasses and I agree she has had Botox and/or laser skin resurfacing because in the boys day out ep that followed, her skin was looking blotchy and oily.

While watching this episode I kept thinking, "How transparent" that they are setting us "stupid, stupid, pathetic viewers" up so that we think we come to the conclusion on our own that:

"Poor Jon and Kate just have no space and cannot tolerate the cold, cold PA winters. They really should move to a warmer area as Kate has always wanted. But wait, Jon is right, it's SUCH A WASTE of money to remodel and we know how thrifty the poor, poor Gosselins are. So that they just don't have to move again in a couple years, they really should just build a new house with room for everyone, wide hallways and plenty of storage. Gee, they seemed to like NC, maybe they should move there??????"

It's just SO OBVIOUS that they WILL move to that area of NC in about a year. And I am betting the house is already underway.

Liz said...

All I can say is Kate is not a smart women. Why would you point out all the things wrong with the house on a show that so many people watch. If I were her real estate agent I would let her have it. You just say the house is too small for a family of 10. I was waiting for her to add to the list we have termites and mice in the winter. I can not believe that they looked at a horse farm. Princess Kate is going to smell horses all day. Although, I did not see her do it on this episode please Kate do not brush your children's hair in the kitchen.

I wondered if this hit anyone else like it did me; When Kate was explaining who Jenny is she mentioned how young and energetic Jenny is and how she is just like family now and other such gushing.

I couldn't help but feel like it was a backhanded slap directed at Jodi. As if to say, "you ARE replaceable."

I really miss seeing Jodi on the show. So often, she seemed like the voice of reason. Her children are very fortunate, indeed.

Their comments about Pennsylvania really bother me. PA doesn't have a beach but there re other things, Knobles, Camel Beach (water park), Great Wolf Lodge(hotel with indoor water park, Dorney and Hershey Park just to name a few. And while PA doesn't have a beach there are plenty of lakes. their dismissal af a state that has given so much to thm drives me crazy.

Did anyone else think that this episode was like a gigantic "eff you" to the world? Like, "yea, so we said we were poor, and bagels are a rare treat, and our poor kids have nothing to play with so send toys and gift cards, but now, we're livin' large and everyone who has helped can just take a flying leap....we have PROPERTIES to look at now".

And, I'm sorry, but using the word PROPERTIES over and over again is just so pretentious. We get it Jon, you want land...we call it land by the way.

Ughh...those poor kids. If anyone ever wondered if the parents were exploiting the kids to live off their backs, this episode confirmed it.

________________________________

I had the same feeling when I heard Kate say that. She also said something like "Oh, the kids just loooove Jenny", which I took to mean "they aren't tired of her like they were of Aunt Jodi".

Those kids take to anyone, and that is not necessarily a good thing. One of the girls even had the lighthouse lady carrying her down the long stairs.

My kids would never impose on or trust a stranger that way, and they are close in age to the 'tups.

A certain amount of caution is normal and important for a child to have. The Gosselins have taught their children that everyone loves them and everyone cares about them and everyone is 'safe'. Not a good idea in this day and age.

I have said worse and am not embarassed to admit it. No one is perfect and j & K don't claim to be. I thought it was funny when they said it at teh same time. Joel quickly stopped so they are doing it right. We went to OBX in June. It was great this ep just made me want to go back. As far as the house - people, give it up they get paid. Athletes and stars and yes people from reality shows are now stars in our culture get sponsorship endorsements all the time why not Jon & Kate. I mean shucks - it's hard enough raising 2 kids on one income in this economy let alone 8. If someone offered me something hell yeah I would take it. And to the comment on the 2 week vacation. We were there for 2 weeks we saved for over a year and went on the shoulder season - early June to keep costs down. It's doable and just rent and make your own meals it's soo worth it! I can't wait to go back in a few years as we save more money.

"Their comments about Pennsylvania really bother me. PA doesn't have a beach but there re other things, Knobles, Camel Beach (water park), Great Wolf Lodge(hotel with indoor water park, Dorney and Hershey Park just to name a few."

And last but not least, a passel of good people who supported their ungrateful, tactless behinds for at least a couple of years - til they moved on to greener pastures of love offerings after the locals had been stomped on and used up sufficiently.

I think the indignation some fans have expressed over being referred to as "sheeple" should be NOTHING in comparison to the indignation at being so thoroughly insulted by the Heading South episode tonight -- originally titled Looking for Property, by the way.

Looking for property indeed. What unmitigated gall to sit there and spout bald-faced lies. Or maybe they are just monumentally stupid?

Are we really to believe that they showed up at some horse farm with a layout that was utterly inappropriate for them, seriously considering it as a prospect? Without even knowing the layout ahead of time or the fact that it included an [unneeded] barn? And what's with the crack about using the barn for the crew's room? It's bad enough that the crew are basically squatters in the Gosselin home as it is, do you really need to provide them with servants' quarters?

And then they wandered onto some property down a dirt road without even knowing how isolated and far off the beaten path it was? And Kate couldn't even be bothered to drag her butt out of the van to look at, and Jon said it didn't take long, there was nothing to look at anyway? It was "just a bunch of trees"?

Are these people complete idiots? Do they think that viewers will believe they were seriously considering these two places that they apparently just pulled out of their asses for the sake of getting some footage, so much so that they didn't even know the blueprint of or the surroundings of? Just so we will think, "Bless their hearts, they tried to find something but there just isn't anything suitable for this most unique family of all times, can't blame them a bit if they have to build one themselves."?

The Gosselins are not a unique family. They have a lot of kids. They need space. There are thousands of family their size or larger who manage to find perfectly suitable homes without having to design and build their own with earnings made off exploiting their children. Without needing a mega-house. Who don't think that renovating an existing house is "a waste of time". Who don't think that unless they design and build their own home, they are just going to have to move again every few years.

I have never seen such spoiled, entitled pigs in my life.

First time commenting. I'm one of eight kids and somehow, someway, when I was 9 years old, we had 12 people living in an 1850 sf 5 bedroom Cape Cod with a galley kitchen.

It was so transparent with these two episodes, that Jon and Kate don't have ties to jobs, that the show IS the job.

I just feel more and more sympathy for those kids, Mommy and Daddy probably give them pep talks about how to keep the mone rolling in by performing for the camera.

Since the other two little girls wake up in the middle of the night, just as Alexis does, are they going to be banished to the basement too? Will Alexis be returned to her old room?

Now to answer my question: No, the two good girl tups will continue to share their room and grow closer to each other, whilst Alexis, the outcast, will forever live under the house. I mean, in the basement! LOL

Two ways to address Joels' "fountain of whine".

a. teach him to speak properly, pay attention to him, talk to him regularly, respond to his needs, engage him in loving and meaningful activities, build up his self worth, read to him on your lap. b. make fun of his speech, ignore him, make sure he spends lots of time in the basement, don't ever hold him, teach his siblings to call him degrading names, write him off at 4. imo only. thanks for listening . some of us anon people have reasons for guarding our privacy, much as we all wish the gosselins lives were private..

oh come on PA winters cannot be that bad...I've been watching the show for awhile and they hardly ever showed the ground covered with more than inch of snow..i live in Iowa and we get some pretty bad winters...GET over it, Kate...and i doubt she'll like the South..its horrible in the summer. Poor Joel and "I don't want to hear you breathe." My mom would never say that.

Apples to oranges. How about Jon and Kate get all that stuff without exploiting their children to get it? Oh yeah, because without the children, Jon and Kate are nothing. Jon's the sperm donor, Kate's the incubator, the children are the breadwinners.

Remember according to Kon, Joel is "a constant fountain of whine."
It could never be anything they did.

Aaaah of course, I forgot...I swear they are like split personalities when it comes to Joel. They always make fun of him but then look how cute Jon was waking Joel up at the beach house? Sometimes I think they hate that kid, and other times, Jon seems to love him so much.

Those kids take to anyone, and that is not necessarily a good thing. One of the girls even had the lighthouse lady carrying her down the long stairs. My kids would never impose on or trust a stranger that way, and they are close in age to the 'tups.

I noticed that too, Alexis and Leah were asking the lighthouse lady all kinds of questions (which was cute) then letting her carry them. My friend's daughter sees me about once every few months, and has for all 4 years of her life, yet it always takes her, understandably, a good while to warm up to me when I visit. But once she remembers our past fun times, we have a blast hanging out.

Most kids are all about "stranger danger" but I think the Gosselin children are raised by relative strangers and don't know the difference.

serena - You are right - It may not have been fair to compare them to real athletes or stars but they are all in entertainment. I think they were approached to do a show and do it. They like it and the benefits so they continue b/c we watch it. they are entertaining us and should be paid. I have no idea how long the cameras on the kids. The kids seem well like kids to me. I think Kate would have her kids in matching clothes camera or not. Yes Kate is overboard at times especially with her reactions. I am more concerned wtih her dismissing Jon than anything. He really needs to strap one on and demand respect but I also understand everyone's concerns for the kids. Only time will tell and hopefully along with their college tuitions they are saving for family therapy.

Wasn't this episode as subtle as having a brick thrown at your head as to what lies ahead.

Our house was too small (waa waa waa)...

We NEEDED a new one (waa waa waa)...

Is it just me or is Jenny all about the "business" even when she clips one of the little girl's hair and says "beautiful" it's with deadpan.

Serena said...

I have no idea how long the cameras on the kids.

The Gosselin children do not receive the same protection by law that their peers in non-reality shows receive. Figure 8 films has been filming them non-stop (no break between seasons) for the past several years. Children who just turned 4 and 8. They cameras are there 3-4 days a week, every week, every month, year after year.

They often arrive from before the children are out of bed for the day and don't leave until after the children go to bed in the evening. There is industrial lighting professionally installed throughout their home.

Instead of being content with the house they currently have, this greedy couple has their hands out wanting more . . . on their terms which apparently means brand new and custom built. With all this money being spent for a house and land, is any of the money being put away for these children?

"I better not even hear you breath."
Wow. This show is becoming too painful to watch. They have worn out their welcome in Pennsylvania and it looks like they are moving to North Carolina.

A few more observations:

Kate does look like she's been working out too. Maybe she has forbidden anyone to film her working out...or film her getting botox!

Besides looking thinner and "tighter", Kate looks younger. But doesn't she still look too old for Jon?...until you look at that ridiculous head of hair he has. Shave that crap off already and be done with it.

Is Jenny a mute or a yes girl or something? Why is it that we saw interaction with Beth, Jodi, Nana Janet and they got airtime, but Jenny is just a prop?

Did anyone else see Mady run from the camera YET AGAIN (in the scene by the garage)? She really is annoyed by the cameras. TLC has to be reading these blogs and has taken note of what the viewers are saying about these things. I am certain that they could delete these things out, but they are keeping them in for all of the snarking. Keeps the blogs full and viewers watching, I guess.

2 sets of sunglasses--One was to hold her hair out of her eyes, and the other pair was to see with. The new house: You people are so right, that was just a ruse. When they divulged their "plan" on the seat tonight, anyone notice how she was fidgeting and twirling her rings as Jon talked about it? They had no intention of buying a larger house. Always knew they would build since they visited Utah and she LOVED that house they stayed in. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a replica of that one. But, she was antsy as Jon was laying the groundword about how they would look at properties on their trip to their speaking engagement. Yes, also, she mentioned the farm type house as having room for the film crew. I had the same reaction: She actually plans on continuing this charade! The house will be built and ready for them so that the kids can start kindergarten in NC in September of '09. That should be the end of the show; but how can they stop now? They will plan on half day kindergarten and try to continue the filming. When they talk about meeting at first, she said she wasn't looking for anyone right then because she was very self-sufficient. However, she has become more and more helpless. She bumped into the fly tape hanging in the garage and it touched her hair. She had to jump and tell Jon to do something about it. I mean, it's HER house. There's fly paper hanging up there. She doesn't know what to do. She acts like an old time actress who can't do anything herself and needs to be surrounded by assistants. Whatever happened? And why is Leah the odd man out? The 3 boys can all sleep in one room, but the two other tups can sleep in a room, and Leah will have to go sleep in the room with Jenny. Speaking of Jenny--she's new. She's young. she's probably not related. After they move in one year, and her stint is over, I just have the feeling that she's the one who will spill all to the tabloids because the money they offer will be hard to turn down. Disneymom better be nice to her or we might hear all.
I wonder if they will film a family gathering/cookout next year for them to say goodbye to relatives and helpers from Pennsylvania who have assisted them so much?

Sorry--just reading other comments. Meant to say that Alexis had to sleep with Jenny.

We haven't had cable for the past few weeks so I haven't been able to watch J&K. I watched tonight and couldn't believe that houses they were looking at... or like anything!
What gets me is the size of the houses... I completley agree about space, but seriously...
we just got evicted from our house, and are currently living in my parents house. There is me, my hubby, my three girls... ages 2,1, and 11 weeks. And my parents and my 13 year old sister. There are three bedrooms and a basement. Maybe somewhere between 1200 and 1700 ish square feet... and we are doing just fine...
The "I don't want to hear you breathe" comment pissed me off!

So they are looking at properties worth $1.9 million? And IT'S NOT ENOUGH? REALLY?

I'd say a prop. I seriously doubt Kate is going to let 'her public' get to know anyone else on that show for fear of them liking them too much and having another "We Love Aunt Jodi (more than Kate) Fiasco."

mlt said...

Kate said about the wild horses something along the lines of "Mady was particularly interested in how the horses are self sufficient and live all by themselves". Tee hee makes one think Mady wants to grab the other kids and go live in a boxcar away from her crazy mama. I cannot believe she said she likes to add something educational into everything they do and yet, she rudely dismissed the poor conductor on the train. Also, did she really say that she couldn't believe that the parents room was in the basement and how awful that would be in the house they looked at and yet, Alexis is made to sleep in the basement. Oh Lordy be!

Kate is looking better than ever, but wouldn't you if you had maids, laundry service, multiple paid vacations a year, a personal chef, free clothes, a huge paycheck for doing nothing and knowing you never had to work a day in your life again? That sure will perk your looks!

yepperpepper said:
"Is Jenny a mute or a yes girl or something? Why is it that we saw interaction with Beth, Jodi, Nana Janet and they got airtime, but Jenny is just a prop?"

Kate has probably given orders that Jenny is not to speak on camera so the viewers do not become attached to her. She won't be around too long and they don't need any more bad press. She probably had to sign a confidentiality agreement as well.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I noticed that Kate looked "different" tonight. I don't know..when she was doing that head back wailing "I gotta pee." she didn't look good, though. Like her skin has been pulled tight or something. She didn't look right.
Anyhow, here they were leaving for an out-of-state trip, and one of them had to go to the bathroom, and Jon told her to go to the bathroom in the garage or something. At first I thought "How disgusting" because that meant use a potty in the garage--then leave for two weeks. But I realized that Jenny is meeting them down in NC, so her last job would be to empty that garage potty before leaving. Yeah, she is really kind of dead pan and doesn't play to the cameras. Well, her gig is only for one year.

Why did Kate make such a big deal out of pointing out Mady's "new room" to her, describing how she and Cara would each have their own room but share the bathroom in the middle, when she knew damn well they were not really considering that house?

Well, I guess lying to your children is easy when you're already lying to your public.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but did anyone else notice one of the little girls, maybe Alexis, take a swat at Jenny when they were loading up to leave for the trip???

I question another thing...like the flypaper thing. Why is it, she can't solve anything on her own. She has to yell to Jon that the windows are open in the van as it was beginning to rain, and they were loading things up. She can't get the keys and put the windows up? Why is she so helpless?
About bulding the house: Well, they can build a beautiful house in NC for say 1.5 million because that's probably only one 5th or so of their yearly income now. They seem to think that the money will just continually pour in until they are 50. I hope they are planning on how to support themselves after the children go have their own lives and families.

Anonymous said...

I hope I am not too off topic here, but there have been 2 references in the comments tonight. What is this disneymom thing? Is there a link? Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Well...I now see that the house they looked at in VA was 1.9 million. Still, it didn't have the WOW factor that they felt when seeing the Utah house.
So, I guess they will spend maybe between 2.5 and 3.5 million bulding their new home (maybe more). But surely, if they show this on TV, it will be the kiss of death for all donations. Hmmmm...what is their plan?

I actually really liked the Wild Horses episode. When they were driving on the beach Kate seemed really into making sure the kids all got to see the horses. Her surpise and excitement about the jellyfish was pretty cool too. Totally surprising that they let the big girls get hermit crabs! I think that was a neat treat for them. And Jon waking up Joel from his nap was awesome! Sometimes I lay in bed with my son like that just before he goes to sleep and it's a super bonding moment between us.

I'm guess it's because Maddy and Cara are going to have their own rooms with a shared bathroom in their new house that is being built, so it wasn't a complete lie.

My guess is that Kate doesn't want ANY attention focused on Jenny. Hence the haircolor change, the lack of airtime/lack of Jenny talking, etc.

I just hope Jenny is getting paid an enormous amount of money to put up with the circus she works in now.

Of course, it's also nice that she seems to at least interact occasionally with the kids, and doesn't mock them like their parents tend to do.

sabrinasmom said...

Just another observation... There is a part of "the Nanny Diaries" (book) where the Nanny is having a normal conversation with the hosts of a dinner party she and her boss' family are attending. Later she is chastised for "monopolizing the conversation."

Maybe part of Jenny's "job description" is to be as silent as possible and no show any emotion what so ever.

Just think - Aunt Jodi was herself and the audience was endeared. (Can't have a repeat of that)

God forbid, or in Kate Speak "Lordy Be", Jenny receive some recognition - especially since she is making money off the kids. (Paid salary)

The star of the show is Kate and only Kate.

Jenny should start wearing a paper bag over her head just in case.

Kate has the "money glow". You know, the pampered look celebrities develop when they come into a good cash flow? She looks like she must spend a lot of time at the spa/salon getting massages and treatments.

When Kate said Jenny is "like a family member already" I thought "Uh Oh! her days are numbered!"

I like how Kate justifies her choices to exploit her kids by saying that the crew/Jenny etc love the kids and the kids love them....I'm sure they loved Jodi more!

Uh, lived here all my life and in their part of PA, there literally is nothing to do. It literally is silos. Just drive along the PA turnpike.

Depending on the part of PA, the winters can get bad. With global warming being what it is, though, it is hard to predict. I live near Philly and for the past few years we haven't had much snow (Thank God!!! I hate winter too).

P.S. For the record, I'm going to the church appearance that they are doing in Abington. I want to see if they truly are crying poor mouth.

Are we sure the house they looked at is listed at $1.8 or $1.9 million? If this is true, our estimates of what they have made, even at $50,000 per show for season 4, are way to low. I thought the house might be around a million, but that's almost double.

My parents have a 10,000 square foot home with two barns. Just the electric alone is over a $1,000 per month.

Something like this is going to cost the G's a lot on a monthly basis. They must be raking it in.

They both commented that they wanted to live on the beach toward the end of the horse show. I wondered if they really had the money for a location like that. Well, now we know.

Tonight J&K provided their sheeples with reasons why building a new home in a warmer climate is the logical thing to do. IMO, what they really want to do is put as many miles as possible between themselves and all the family and friends that they've kicked to the curb. It's much easier to lie to your children and tell them that grandma lives too far away to ever see her, than to try to justify her absence when she lives in the same area.

Kate seemed to avoid insulting Jon while they were on the couch, although her body language was still anti-Jon.

Other observations:
a) Kate's hateful facial expression as she screamed at Joel that she didn't even want to hear him breathe.
b) How their outburst towards Joel terrified him into instant silence. I've never seen a 4-year-old respond in such a manner.
c) Mady's complete avoidance of the cameras.
d) How sad that 4-year-olds have had such little experience dressing themselves that they can't get their shoes on the right feet.
e) How hateful Kate was towards everyone as they were packing up to go on this farce of a trip.
f) At least no one insulted the lighthouse guide like they did the man on the train. (My blood still boils over that uncalled for behavior.)

By now I have pretty much given up hope on ever seeing Kate conduct herself as a genuinely loving wife and mother. The changes to her appearance are probably in preparation for the trip to Hawaii. For that show, I wonder how many times no-balls Jon will be insulted before they renew their vows. Hmmmm....given what we've seen of their relationship, I'm starting to wonder just what will be stated in these vows. I'll have to try to remember to tune into that show. It would be funny if it wasn't so pitiful.

I have watched the family since the first special aired. I have read this blog for months. It will take me numerous posts to discuss this week's show and my new level of total disgust with the KONS.
First of all, neither work outside the home. Despite their jobless status, they are/ will be leading a lifestyle that befits a celebrity or profesional athlete.
And they still have love offering events on their calendars.
Sheeple, please rise up, don't attend, don't give them a red cent of your hard earned money.

It was interesting to see them squirm in the chairs, explaining this new found lifestyle.
It appears they have a full time nanny yet they use every euphism in the book to explain her role. And Kate's involvement with the kids daily needs has been reduced even further. Yet some people consider her to be a role model?

I was disgusted listening to them diss their current home and state. We are former residents of PA and have paid lots of tax to this state. Little people's tax money paid for a year's worth of private nursing care so Kate could get her beauty sleep at night. The governor opened college funds for these kids, now how many of us have state sponsored college funds in place. I can only speculate what other services this family gets for free from PA.

It is obvious they will be purchasing an estate style home, probably building it from scratch. Do you wonder why they are building a home? They want to get FREEBIES donated in return for advertising.

I wondered if they were looking at Virginia Horse Country estates, an expensive area favored by the rich and famous. I guess the KONS feel they have arrived and this would be a suitable location for them to hang their hats.

I picture the KONS in the closet while Jenny runs the house and tends to the kids. The KONS are reading this blog and others, then they probably are contacting potential donors for this dream estate home. Appliance manufacturers, furniture companies, etc etc. We are the Gosselins, what can you give us?

I thought these were boring. I want to see more of the children. Again, I would like them to interview the children on camera and have them tell about their day. They're old enough to communicate. I know they do this sometimes (boys' golfing day out w/dad) “we pushed the ball”. But instead of the replay by Jon and Kate, I want to hear the kiddies tell me what they thought.

I wasn't bothered by Jon yelling when he was trying to park the car. He had to give a loud command to be safe and think. Also, if you let the children out, then you have to corral or take them in so there's no possibility of an accident.

I also didn't have a problem with Kate telling Joel she didn't even want to hear him breathing. Let's not forget how those days are when your kids are out to get you. Now, I am not a big Kate supporter, I can't stand many many of the things that she does. I was glad she stopped there and didn't scold him any further or say anything else that would be derogatory.

Jenny may not have been used to being filmed so much and feel awkward that the world is now watching her. All the talk about Jenny really made me miss Aunt Jodi. I don't know how Kate continues to look America in the eye after she cut her out of the show. It really seemed like Jenny took over all of Kate's jobs with the kids, fixing their hair, etc.

I don't understand why Kate didn't help move the car seats into the jeep, it seemed Jenny was watching the children at that time. She was just standing there. Also, with all of her preplanning, I also wondered why the kids didn't have on better walking shoes to attend the tour of the lighthouse. It would have been nice if all the kids had gotten to see the jellyfish. I know you have to strap, unstrap. But they're older and it's easier now.

Kate actually seemed more relaxed. Do you think she got some meds?

Just as a side note, it never bothers me when they use the strollers (not an issue on these shows) just because it's easier to go places faster, the kids all have an instant seat to rest or nap. At our nearby amusement park, I've seen eight year olds pile on the pully wagons with their younger brothers and sisters because they were so worn out with a day of fun. I also thought sippy cups were a wonderful invention for inside the house. No spills or any other type of accidents, they're just practical. My little girl uses a glass at meal times, but if she wants to take it with her to play, it goes in a sippy cup. A big one with a lid. They're more sanitary also, so she can set it down and come back to it without worrying if anything has gotten into it. I'm an older mom – 20 years between my oldest and youngest. The stuff they have for baby's and preschoolers has continuously surprised me as far convenience. Also, on the love offerings. It would be considered very rude by the church if they didnot do that for quest speakers. I grew up in an Assemblies of God (almost 7 days a week as I went to school there) and it's pretty standard for that to happen after a guest speaker. It's a shame since I'm sure that some of the people giving to the G's need that money. But if they give, it's up to them and their personal decisions with their beliefs. We were always told to listen to our hearts.. Pretty much like the tv evangelists who just ask and ask for help with their ministry but really have several big houses, etc.

It seemed like I was yelling at the TV more tonight (esp the 1st episode)then I ever have before. The 1st thing that made me yell at the TV (screaming at KATE actually!) was when J&K were saying that Joel always puts his shoes on the wrong foot & Kate said "they don't know left or right" & I just yelled at her "that's probably because you haven't TAUGHT them!!" I also agree and thought it was just horrible the way both J&K said to Joel at the same time (when Joel was crying on the garage step) "not another sound!" & Kate's disturbing comment after that about not wanting to even hear him breathing (who SAYS that to your own child?!) while she looked at him with a very mean scowl as she said it, IMO. You've heard that phrase "If looks could kill..."? That's what I thought of when I saw the way she spoke to him. Poor sweet Joel. And then Kate is making fun of the way Joel cries when they were on the confessional couch. What IS it with J&K making fun of their kids all the time?! I just don't get it. But I did enjoy one cute moment when they arrived at their beach house & Joel said to the camera "Yeah! We made it!!". I thought that was sooo cute.

A few other observations I made...did anyone see just how LONG Hannah's hair has gotten?! I know she told Kate she didn't want it cut and I think it looks pretty but it sure is long now!

And when Kate was rattling off all the food they were taking and TLC showed the list & it said "42 Prepared Meals" (at the bottom) and Kate was going off saying "I planned out meals, marinated the meat & froze them so there would be something for Jon to grill everyday." You know and I know SHE probably didn't do any of that herself!

I didn't like Kate's snide and bitchy comment when it had started raining and the windows on the van were down and she was telling Jon to go close them (I also agree with others on here, why couldn't she do that HERSELF?!) and she said "now it's gonna be all nice & mildewy to travel, won't THAT be PERFECT?!?!?

I also agree with other posters on here who commented how when Kate was trying to get the girls out the door into the garage so they could leave and she claps her hands together as if she is rounding up a herd of cattle or something, that is so rude! I too also noticed Alexis hitting Jenny in the van when Jenny was trying to buckle her in; what's up with that?! And I also noticed Mady running away from the camera when she was in the garage, I really feel for her.

I too don't understand why they always have to be rushing off to places. Jon making that comment their 1st morning at the beach house when the kids were eating breakfast "hopefully they'll eat fast & we'll be out the door". Geesh, maybe they ARE a herd of cattle to J&K!

I REALLY felt bad for Aunt Jodi (if she ever watches the show) the way Kate was talking and gushed about Jenny. Kate makes it sound like they've NEVER had help before! Her comments, such as "Our family helper Jenny helps us survive. We finally gave in as life gets crazier and we have somewhat of a helper. The kids love her, I mean she's like already another family member, they scream when she arrives". How stupid does Kate think we all are? That no one would notice that Aunt Jodi and Beth and Carla and her daughter are now missing and never seen on the show?

I too couldn't believe Jon's comment about how "it seems like renovating a home is a big waste of time". For starters, I thought that was an incredibly RUDE statement to say to all the thousands or millions of people around the world who have renovated THEIR homes. J&K act like that's just beneath them. Sick. If the sheeple out there don't see their true colors by now, then I think I've lost all hope for them. How can someone watching this show tonight attend one of their upcoming speaking engagements and think they still need financial assistance?!

Did anyone else notice that Joel rode in the same jeep as Kate and the girls? Maybe Kate was trying to make up for her mistreatment of Joel, at least to the audience, by letting him ride with her?

I still don't get what Joel did in life to get such a raw deal.

His XY chromosomes and his preference for Jon over Kate.

How sad that 4-year-olds have had such little experience dressing themselves that they can't get their shoes on the right feet.

Another example of how if the kids had been in a regular preschool program, Kate and Jon would have learned the simple trick of putting small smiley faces on the inner side of each shoe - when the smiley faces can "see" each other - the shoes are on the correct feet.

Rather than complain or make fun of Joel -- they could have made life easier for him. It would even have been a "teaching" moment -- but J/K would rather humiliate the child.

And clearly breathing is an issue for Kate - she's complained about Jon and his breathing; now Joel. Guess she wasn't a respiratory therapist :-)

Looking at the beach house they rented and it being rented during the prime season, the rent must have been at least $3500 a week.

Jen said...

Wow...1.9 million for that first house...yea, all the churchgoers should slam their purses and wallets shut now. Clearly, this is not (and never really has been) a family in need. Give to a food shelf, donate to an animal shelter...I hate to say it and I feel bad for them, but the people who have donated their HARD-EARNED money are going to feel like crap when they see where this money has been going. Acres of land, stables, a pool, almost 6,000 square feet....yea, destitute not so much huh?

When is the rest of the world going to realize that these poor kids are paying for a $2 million dollar estate with their childhoods? What's the going rate on a childhood these days?

I'm just sick about this.

Serena said...

Kate also said that (Leah? Alexis?) didn't know how to pick out an outfit.

Well yeah, when the children have grown up being dressed in costumes provided by the wardrobe department to ensure they match and make for good TV, of course they won't have any idea how to actually pick out their own clothing on the rare occasion when the opportunity presents itself.

I just read the comment on how long the cameras are on the kids. WOW that's crazy. Let's see they wake up at like 830 they are in the rooms from 1-4 (i read that here) and they go to bed around 730 so they have cameras on them 8 hours a day 3-4 days a week. The thing is they have never known another life so prolly don't see anything wrong with it.

Did anyone else notice the woman serving breakfast to the kids the morning they went on the jeep ride? It wasn't Kate, and it wasn't Jenny - she was wearing a green shirt and white shorts, and neither one was wearing that. A chef? Another helper?

Also, I totally don't believe Kate would just need Jenny on the first few days of their holiday until they're into a "routine", as she said. Bet you $1000 Jenny was there the whole time.

LFWH said...

"While watching this episode I kept thinking, "How transparent" that they are setting us "stupid, stupid, pathetic viewers" up so that we think we come to the conclusion on our own that..."

I too had the same thought when they kept saying "Properties, properties, properties!" And when they looked at that first house I thought it was pretentious of them. Really, why would they need a horse farm????

When Kate said they wanted to move somewhere "warmer" I thought it was interesting that we had already read on this blog about how they were moving to NC to be closer to the production company. Wonder if the production company will pay for their new McMansion?

And why is their PA home too small now? Isn't that why they moved out of their old home because it was too small? So now they claim they don't have enough space so they must move into an even bigger house in a warmer climate? Not adding up.

When I saw the vacation rental they were staying in, I had the same phrase running through my head "Freebie". Wonder if the place they were speaking at ponied up for the beach house?

One last comment on last night's show, did anyone else notice Kate's Diva behavior at the beach with the jellyfish? She saw it but had one of the production crew check it out before she would get off her butt and out of the Jeep to look at it. Made me cringe.

Anonymous said...

So...does anyone think those hermit crabs will actually make it back to PA? LOL

Care to speculate on which employee of the production company will "adopt" it (the living one) as an office pet?

Anonymous said...

So, if TLC is going to build them a McMansion in NC for filming, I wonder if J&K will own the home or just reside there until the show is cancelled?

I'm guessing the company will own the home and sell it and evict (or offer to sell it to) the residents when the series is cancelled.

Again, that's "If." I suppose the Goz's could very well by buying it with their children's...er...I mean their own money.

LFWH said...

Sorry to post again but did anyone notice when J&K were looking at the Horse Farm Estate Kate made the comment that one portion of the attached barn could be a room for the crew?? That is another reason why I suspect the production company is paying for the house. I notice when they are having something paid for by someone else, they either want more or the high end version (like the tummy tuck Kate had, it wasn't enought for a free tummy tuck but she wanted her breasts done too.).

I think if the kids were on the confessional couch, the producers might have to do a lot of editing, because little truths might slip out. We might hear, we are building a new house, or things about Mommy's chef or Nanny (notice Kate used every word but the word Nanny?) or some comments about past helpers that are now taboo.

Hermit crabs are icky at the table and won't be allowed at home. But bloody staples while people are eating? Perfectly acceptable.

Jenny is "eager to learn". Nice terminology. I think that means she better learn the ropes and toe the line. She must have an ironclad contract and confidentiality agreement. I feel bad for Jenny.

This show has lost any and all concept of 'reality'. The show has become predictable, insulting , over the top pretentious, unrelatable, obnoxious, extremely patronizing, misleading, and contradictory. The children have become nothing more than stratigically placed background accessories to that of J & K.
IMO, J & K + 8 has evolved in to nothing more than a secondary 'speaking' platform for J & K in their attempt to appeal to the masses to further accomodate their never ending sense of entitlement and greed!!!!

It bothered me that now even Mady and Cara had on matching outfits. That has to be embarrassing for 7 year olds, IMO.

In response to:

For J & K, teaching moments, or as they refer to as 'eductional' moments, consist only of elaborate outtings at amusement parks, luxery vacations, vanity procedures, and the like. Within the J & K school of parenting, there is no 'goal' in teaching a child to wear his shoes on the right feet.

LOL Serena - a RESPONSIBLE adult would not accept all the freebie and take care of their family finanically and otherwise.

Completely off topic but has anyone ever wondered 2 things.
1. why are we obsessed with this reality mom? i know for me it's b/c she reminds me of my sil which would make me aunt Jodi
2. why is there no friends of kate blogs? i know if my friends were being talked about in blogs i'd do it defense.

I know it's been said before, but I'll say it again - the show needs to be more about the kids. They always say that the purpose of the show is to expose the challenges of raising two sets of multiples...but honestly, what challenges are involved in running around on a free vacation looking at (and rejecting) $1.9 million "properties"? If anyone could make that a challenge, it would be Kate. This show has lost focus.

I suspect this upcoming season would be more appropriately titled "Jon & Kate + The New Estate."

Hmmmmmm... I know that Kon thinks their "loyal fans" are complete idiots, but even the sheeple should be able to put 2 + 2 together on this latest scam. Right around the same time Kon starts loooking at "properties" their new publicist begins cancelling the love offering speaking engagements and booking new ones for a flat $25,000 fee (plus first class travel accomodations, of course) Not only does Kon need the money to build their 1 to 3 million dollar mansion, they obviously can no longer cry poverty. This is a huge and IMHO, stupid gamble on TLC's part. The die-hard sheeples who worship Kate do so because they feel they have something in common with her. Right now, Kon still lives in a reasonably sized house and Kate still pretends she does stuff, hence the constant claims of "exhaustion." As they build this mansion and eventually live in it, I believe the die-hards will finally see the light. Even they won't want to see a show about two lazy pigs who's only job is to exploit their kids and shill for handouts, while they live in a mansion and don't lift a finger to do anything.

I wondered if they were looking at Virginia Horse Country estates, an expensive area favored by the rich and famous. I guess the KONS feel they have arrived and this would be a suitable location for them to hang their hats.

If that's their approach here, then I hate to tell them but this little shack would be considered 'slumming it' by Va. "society" standards.

Barbara in VA said...

Wasn't that estate in VA? As a VA resident I can say that our taxpayers here don't want to foot any expenses for this ex IT specialist, non-college grad and his unemployed wife. I hope it in fact is NC they're heading to from PA. That place in the outer banks was wonderful and hugely expensive. Those two could not have set a toe in that place without the kids to in effect pick up the tab. I wonder if anyone has contacted Paul Peterson and his group to have them look into these parents living in a huge way off their kids? I hope that this being a reality show in which the kids are not "supposed" to be acting doesn't negate that law that protects child actors from bad parents. Yeah, Kate is certainly enjoying the good life and so is Jon; they have a sense of entitlement emblazoned across their foreheads no matter how much they try not to show it.

I did see either Leah or Alexis slap Jenni in the van. Now you know that child would not have hit Kate and live to tell the tale.

Here's a question. I did see the Joel shushing on the step last night because of his whining (and that would drive you crazy), but I haven't seen that J&K are harder on him than they are on the other boys. What have I missed?

Serena's comment and link at 8-12 7:02AM confirmed what I was thinking after watching the show and just got a chance to post now. I would bet the family knives and forks that TLC is footing the bill for the entire homestead/compound and the G's will reside there until the show finally tanks. Then TLC can either offer it to them at market price, or sell it (on ebay?) as the "J&K+8" estate. IMO, the white house on the horse farm suggested the house the Duggars built (also with the help of TLC, if I'm not mistaken) in its appearance but not its deluxe size, so this is probably a build-up of what to expect in the future.

Just watching the body language of the pair on the couch last evening gave me the sense that they're giving the big "nyah, nyah, nyah" to all of the great unwashed (uh, that's us) who aren't experiencing the deluxe life on Mt. Olympus with them.

Hearing that it's a possibility that this show may go on longer than another season (new house in NC and all) makes me think that the tups will be homeschooled. A child going through a day of Kindergarten needs A LOT of downtime once school is over and a decent bedtime.

I can't see Kate/Jon homeschooling the tups nor do I see them being able to handle 8 kids in school with continueing to film a reality show. I'm sure there will have to be a teacher on "set".

I enjoyed this show in the beginning, but don't think I will be watching it much longer. No such thing as reality here. The kids are cute (although no cuter than a lot of other kids), but I can't stand what is being done to them.

Alexis is a sweetie. I love her personality except for the hitting part... I hate how because she is different (as in not like Kate) from the other girls, the poor girl is always stuck the odd one out. Kate definitely plays up her favorites, ie. Hannah.

Did you notice how Hannah and Mady stayed with Kate due to their fear of heights? These are her indoor girls.

Did anyone else notice that the Gosselins must have a new sponsor in Polliwalks (the tups shoes)? http://www.polliwalks.com/
With the multiple, close-up shots of the the shoes, it seems likely that is the case. I highly suspect that J&K are not shelling out $24.95 per pair, since in the past (in the early days, before the sponsorships came rolling in)it was pretty obvious that the tups mostly wore Circo from Target shoes- not that there's anything wrong with that- my child does, too! Thank god Target is not a sponser of theirs, yet!

K.C. said...

Sorry this is so long.

Was this J&K+8 or an advertisement for Crocs? If KON had more sense they would know that it reflects poorly on them that 4 year olds don't know their left from their right and wear their shoes on the wrong feet so often, (without anyone noticing), that they get blisters. I started teaching my daughter left and right and how to dress herself when she was 2 years old. Hellooooo, please pay more attention to your kids!

Of course Jon & Kate both got the token eye roll in at Joel and made the mandatory gender comments--just incase we forgot that she doesn't want the boys disgracing the girls rooms with their filthy presence. We know, Aaden is not allowed in Cara's room, (even if Cara invited him in).

When Kate told Joel, "I don't even want to hear you breathe", I swear, he became so still and quiet that it actually looked like he did hold his breath. I've been known to say, "Don't move a muscle" but never have I heard anyone tell a child not to breathe. Kate says the most ridiculous things, I heard her refer to the weather as 'MUGGLY UGGLY' when they were packing up for the trip.

Some posters have claimed not to be bothered by Jon's SHUT YOUR MOUTH remark. It wasn't Jon raising his voice that bothered me but his poor choice of words. I disliked his words a lot. I agree, it's hard to concentrate when kids are being noisy. We have all found ourselves in similar situations. I was in one last Tuesday. We were driving to Gulf Shores and had the GPS programmed in addition to Map Quest's directions. A few hours into the trip we realized the directions were not the same. We were trying to figure out which way was better, however; we couldn't hear one another over the roar in the back of the vehicle. After asking politely a few times, (and being ignored), I got frustrated and raise my voice. I said [loudly] "PLEASE!?" [then in a normal voice] "Give us a minute, we are trying to read these directions, it's so loud in here we can't think." Once we were finished I turned around and said "Thank you for giving us a minute to think, we weren't mad at you, we just needed to concentrate". (IMO) You should not say things like SHUT YOUR MOUTH to your children. It sets a terrible example. I try my best never to say things in front of my child that I wouldn't want to hear them repeat.

We can add rolling up car windows and fastening her children into their car seats to the list of things Kate won't do, (along with making the bed, pumping gas, taking out the trash...).

Alexis still sleeps in basement but while they were looking at the house in VA the idea that Kate's room would be in the basement was not appealing to her. But they would do anything for their kids? If that's the truth then please let Alexis move back into the house!

Yes, I also saw Alexis hit Jenny while Jenny was loading her in the car.

I noticed the TV was on in Hannah and Leah's room when Jenny went in to wake them. I thought they didn't watch TV?

When Kate said she [paraphrase] "finally broke down and got a little help" in reference to Jenny. I also took it as an insult to Jodi. Not to mention that it was a lie. She doesn't just get a LITTLE help. She is still trying to act like she does so much.

How long was the trip? Kon said the vacation was 2 weeks, Jenny said she would be there for the "whole week".

pink Sony digital camera. I guess it's safe to assume Sony is a sponsor now?
I didn't hear the clapping that another poster mentioned but when they were on the Jeep tour I heard, "Jon [clap, clap] I need you, I can't climb around, I have a skirt on."

They rush through everything and are very unappreciative. I caught the [paraphrase] "if they hurry up and eat breakfast" comment too. What really stuck out to me was when Jon wanted to wait for the sunset and Kate said "It does that every day, no, we're not staying for that." I wish Jon had replied, "Well you complain and say how exhausted you are everyday but I stay for that."

It looked to me as if the lighthouse employee was instructed not to give the informative speech. I heard her say something like, "ok, well let me know if you want me to tell you about the lighthouse, do you have any questions?" Jenny replied with "How old is it?"

Kate is so famous now she even has other people walk for her. A crew member had to get out and check the jellyfish for her before she would get out. I agree with the commenter above, that is diva behavior. After taking a picture of the jellyfish we got a clear view of Kate's pink Sony digital camera. I guess that was a freebie too? God knows she complained about the old camera enough. Someone probably got sick of hearing it and sent her a new one.

Serena, I would like to nominate your statement as comment of the week:
"Jon's the sperm donor, Kate's the incubator, the children are the breadwinners."

Whenever Kate whines about space it is tempting to yell at the TV screen: "Hey, why don't you go outside and look at your lawn? That's space, green space." I remember back in the day that children played outside which can seem like one giant room, but I suppose it is not welcoming to some because of its potential to ruin clothes. Even if she had eleven children, like my grandfather's family who survived in 1400 square feet, she would not believe that 4000 square feet was enough. Well, as some weird recent studies say, people with more material objects are likely to be unhappier...

Im thinking that the house is being built right now and that they may go look at it and "decide" to buy it just to make their sheeple think that they're buying a home instead of having one built.

I was bothered by the fact that the tups probably are NOT going to start school next sept so as to keep the gravy train going, afterall, TLC wont pay their bills forever.

Everyones saying "how can they afford a 1.9mill house" well TLC can and Kon can when the show is over because they'll have a ton of money banked because they dont spend a dime of it right now.

They've milked PA dry so they have to move to another state for the freebies.

mswestern said...

The greed and entitlement of these two is beyond the pale. It's as if they truly believe that no family ever has had eight children, and therefore no one can understand their needs. And what is with the insistence that everyone have their own bedroom?

There have been large families since time began, and children have even been known to *gasp* share bedrooms. My two boys (eight year age gap) share a room, as do my two girls (11 year age gap), and they don't seem to have been stunted by the experience ... if anything, they've learned more about sharing space with another human being, and about getting along.

It seems as though Jon and Kate (who clearly do not know the difference between "need" and "want") are building a house big enough for them to hide from their children. How much do you want to bet that the kids will end up with their own wing of this monstrosity, where they will be raised almost exclusively by paid help?

Anonymous said...

It's very obvious to me that the search for a new home and property was a diversion. Any of us who have bought a home or land would get out of the car to look at it. The fact that Kate stayed in the car is the big clue. Why not just say that they are having a house built with help from TLC? I think that would be the most honest way to handle this issue. Yes, their new house may be bigger than most people will ever have, but they also have 8 kids.

There is nothing on this show that seems "real" anymore. I don't believe that J&k even broke a sweat getting ready for this trip. The most they probably did was prepare lists of what they wanted for others to complete. I don't think it was even them packing the car - just a few trips to the car for camera shots then the lackeys could take over. I think the reason Kate looks better now is because she probably has help with her wardrobe and makeup. I want to watch the credits closely to see if this is mentionned. Also when a family with children prepares to relocate, a major topic of conversation is always the quality and proximity of the schools, yet I heard no mention of that. Could they possibly be thinking of home schooling all 8 kids, isolating them even further. I think the bloom is off this rose of a show - the only way I can see it lasting is if it moves to the Travel Channel.

My jaw dropped when Katie Irene complained that the van was going to be 'mildewy' for their trip. This from the woman whose husband scrubbed urine from the van before they left for WDW? The same woman who travels with potties?

When Kon said that renovating a house was a big waste of time, I thought of all of the volunteers who helped fix up their first house. Of course, by now, I'm sure the volunteers agree that it was a big waste of their—not Kon's—time.

The use of 'properties' by Kon falls into the same pinky crooking pretensions as Jon's 'designer jeans.' When you look at the big picture with regard to Kon, you realize they have the social grace of goats. Nothing can make these rubes into class acts.

My impression of this, now that I've seen the PROPERTIES they were looking at is that Jon was used to having material things since his family had some money and Kate never had anything really nice. You put that combination together and you have a pretty bad situation. I also think that when Kate met Beth after she volunteered with the tups, she saw a life she had never seen before and started scheming any way she could so that she could "keep up with the Carsons". She got a taste of that life and that's what led to these obnoxious displays of selfishness and greed. The difference of course is that Bob and Beth actually DID something to earn that lifestyle where Jon has never met a job that didn't like him, so Jon and Kate had to pimp out the only thing of "value" that they had to make money from...the kids.

Pretty sick, I think.

RE:it's hard enough raising 2 kids on one income in this economy let alone 8.

I have 2 children and I am well aware of the expenses of children. That is why I only had 2 children. If you CANNOT take care of them, then why have them?

I have been lurking awhile here, having come across this blog after I was so annoyed by the cupcake episode that I went googling for more Gosselin info. I cannot believe what this show has turned into. We are no longer learning anything from the Gosselins regarding how to rear 8 children alone --- what a sham.

With this episode one thing that I thought sounded odd was when their new "nanny" said she would be driving down there to meet them and would be with them for the week. She was in the car at the property stops! Huh??

One other thing that bugs me about this mess is that one day these children are going to watch these shows and see (with adult eyes) how hurtful some of their parent's comments were. I can see their little spirits being broken now, and I can only imagine how beaten down they will become.

I keep meaning to post my opinions but haven't yet (I've never blogged before)....

The only reason I found this blog was because I went searching on the internet to find out what other people thought about the "cupcake gate". I was horrified that the boys didn't get theirs - I've always felt that Kate doesn't like the boys or Alexis and favors Leah and Hannah.

Anyways, I wanted to add that my kids just turned 5 and 7 and both have speech problems and my son, the seven year old, has been in speech therapy for 3 1/2 years now, curtousy of our school district. The tup's should be able to get speech and other services through the school district just like I did. BTW I live in WA. My son was only 3 when he started the process.

Also Kate might wait until the kids are 6 before going to kindergarten if they are behind in social and speech issues. My kids have summer birthdays so I waited until my son was 6 to start kindergarten. So the best thing for them would be to be in a preschool program to learn all those skills!

Also, I think Jon can be just as rude and mean as Kate. He's said some pretty mean things plus he gets really moody. I don't think I could get along with either one.

My last point, in their current neighborhood - wouldn't the neighbors be sick and tired of having a commercial type business being run out of their development? Wouldn't you need special permits to do that? Plus I wouldn't want my kids plastered all over the TV/Internet.

Just a couple things I've wanted to post about for a while. Thanks for this blog - it's opened my eyes and I had never thought about the impact this non stop filming was having on those little kids.

Kate sees nothing wrong in dumping her son's piss in an area of public access.

Regarding Jon and kates trip to the outer banks- my family -my huge family was there when they were vacationing- we ssaw them filming right next to us on the beach-the producer would not let us talk to them.

We may have been too much i guess. I have 13 siblings and my parents now have 41 grandchildren. Jon and Kate plus 8 give me a breaK!!

Anyway the kids were so cute and kate was what you see on TV!!

This episode was the last straw as far as I'm concerned.

Kate, and Jon too for that matter, infuriate me to no end. They are egocentric narcisists that let nothing (even their kids)stand between them and their ultimate goal-money and fame.

I'm sorry Kate, but the job of Paris Hilton has already been taken.

Also, I am SO SICK of reading comments about how good Kate looks!
People who work hard and give a lot of themselves don't usually look BETTER with age, but they are better people.

Kate is a great example of why one should not judge a book by its cover.

Sorry this is rambling, I'm feeling extremely resentful of KON today
:-(

PS Sabrinasmom....The Nanny Diaries came to mind as well during this episode!

How sad that 4-year-olds have had such little experience dressing themselves that they can't get their shoes on the right feet.

_____

What's sad, is that he has worn them on the wrong feet long enough to get blisters and nobody noticed. That is sad!

The sunset thing really bothered me a lot on this episode. When I was growing up one of my favorite things to do at the end of a day on the beach was to sit out on the sand and watch the sun go down. It was just a perfect way to end what was usually a great day - sun and sand and lots of playtime. That feeling of being just a little sunburned and sleepy and tired but still wantng to watch that gorgeous color show that was the sunset. My parents used to make sure that we appreciated this 'gift from God" as one of the wonders of the world around us. We were not particularly religious, but faith was made very important to us.

To this day I still sit out on the beach and watch the sunsets when we are down there - it is spectacular at Cordova in the OBX because the beach is so pristine. And how many times will you get to experience that?

It just points out one of the things that bothers me the most about Kon - for a family that talks about their Christian faith I rarely see it in evidence. Faith is so much more than going to church - it is teaching your children to appreciate what they have and all of the incredible things that they see around them. To enjoy just being and not racing from one thing to another. To "see" the world and not just the places.

I think this is what I appreciated most about Jodi - when I watched the show she was always showing the children things that they could appreciate and was teaching them to look at the world in different ways. Even down to a cooking experience for the twins.

So, next week, when I sit on the beach in the Outer Banks and watch the sunset with my child, I'll make sure that he appreciates it the way that I was taught to - as being the perfect end to what was given to us as a perfect day of just enjoying being together and playing in nature. A celebration of faith and spirit.

My daughter was one of those kids who just could not seem to put her shoes on the correct feet. I ended up putting tiny pieces of red tape on the insides of her shoes (so the kids at school wouldn't notice them) to help her, because I cared.

BTW, today she is in the honors program at school and gets straight A's.

Some kids just take a little longer to get there, but having a parent who cares might help Joel get there more quickly.

Lovely post "Powell"

I'd forgotten about the sunset ranting. Such a huge difference between the Roloffs and Kate. I recall an episode when the Roloffs were on a trip and they made it a point to take a moment and drink in the beauty of the scenery and then, with that footage we heard Matt talk about that very thing. With Kate we hear someone, I forgot who, remark about the beautiful sunset and Kate barks, "Yeah, I see the sunset. It's pretty but it will be there tomorrow. We are leaving" or something like that.

I thought at the time, how sad that was because everything must be HER way. That person was denied the few minutes of watching the sunset. What if, God forbid, something horrible happened, and that person didn't have a tomorrow to watch a sunset?

TV show or not, Kate seriously needs to slow down and allow her family to slow down and live REAL LIFE sometimes.

I also want to add that one of the few memories I have of my mother is the two of us sitting together in our living room watching a sunrise when I was about the age of the sextuplets. It was so nice to just be with her and sit quietly and watch. In my opinion, Kate should have taken the time to sit and watch and reflect and just be a family. But it wasn't important to her.

I did notice, however, she had time to pose for a phony family photo. So, I feel she wants photos to "document" thier lives instead of ACTUAL lives.

"Also when a family with children prepares to relocate, a major topic of conversation is always the quality and proximity of the schools, yet I heard no mention of that. Could they possibly be thinking of home schooling all 8 kids, isolating them even further."

Even if Kate homeschools North Carolina is a heavily moderated homeschool state. School officials come into your home and survey the materials you're using and want records kept on all the children, updates to the local school district and also have outside professional evaluations done on the kids progress. That means that Kate is actually going to have to DO something, like sit with her kids, yes the boys too, and teach them school. Unless of course Jon does all the homeschooling.

That's scary, considering he can't even spell aluminum. But then again, he does everything else, according to Jodi's sister, so why not the schooling too? Kate can shop on the internet while he's the teaching them and buy personalized pencils and notepads.

"Did anyone else notice the woman serving breakfast to the kids the morning they went on the jeep ride? It wasn't Kate, and it wasn't Jenny - she was wearing a green shirt and white shorts, and neither one was wearing that. A chef? Another helper?

I noticed "that person" also. At first I thought it was someone who was cleaning. Upon closer inspection, it was Jenny -- her blue shirt looked green in that scene.

"Would have been nice to see the kids playing on the beach, not just more of them in car seats and a whole lot of J&K.
Is this the Jon & Kat only show now?

In their defense, they were on a jeep tour to see the horses and other natural sights. Each vehicle cost about $165 for the trip. They were not really supposed to "play on the beach." I'm sure they will be playing on the beach a lot next week.

If you talk to people who work in the television industry, they will tell you that TLC is facing somewhat of a crisis with this show. While its a big hit, Kate is demanding material things i.e. a huge house, personal services, etc. that will turn the show into a window into the life of a high net worth family with 8 kids. The appeal of the show is that its a typical family with 8 kids. But, if TLC tries to hide the lifestyle improvements, that is a slippery slope. Many celebrities receive all kinds of perks, except that nobody every sees them. On this reality show, either they will be seen by viewers or they will be hidden and will leak out from people who know about them. I think Kate made a huge mistake not allowing Beth and Jodi to be paid for their part in the show. I really don't think any of us are interested in watching this show if its all about paid help taking care of the kids. The captivating part about it was watching the mom and dad try to deal with their unique family. Once it moves to weekday and weekend nannys, personal shoppers, tutors, round-the-clock drivers, gated mansions, vacation homes, private schools, private jets, etc. it will lose its appeal. Anybody would be able to manage 8 kids with that kind of help. Most people will never have those resources and will not be able to relate to this family any more.

There was no Olive Garden at the Outer Banks last year. Perhaps they brought those cups from home -- or there IS now a restaurant there. Anyone know?

Here were a few quotes from the Heading South show that I picked up on:

Kate - this trip South will be our "official summer getaway." What is the Hawaii trip - the other official summer getaway?

Kate - "We've never done a beach trip before." There will be beaches in Hawaii too, I bet.

Jon - talking about the possible move - "If or when we decide we want to move." Kate immediately jumps in with "Well, we know we want to move to warmer weather." Isn't Jon aware that they are moving, not thinking about moving?

Kate - talking about moving "prior to the little kids possibly starting kindergarten." I interpreted this as they might hold the tups back 1 year because they might not be ready for kindergarten next year, as opposed to homeschooling them. Anyone else interpret it that way?

I have a few thoughts on the new house that I haven’t seen mentioned.

First let me state where I stand on a few of the issues. No, I don’t agree with the children having to work to pay for the home, but apparently Jon and Kate are going to continue with the show regardless of where they live. No, I don’t agree with the whole “love offering” issue and the lies to the viewers, but it will be pretty hard for them to keep that charade going once the viewers see the size of the new home. And finally, no, I don’t agree with moving the kids away from all their family and friends, but it seems that those ties have already been severed.

So after taking all of that into consideration, I actually think the big house will probably be a good thing for all the kids. Having too many people in a small space can become very stressful and noisy, even for kids, so having more room to spread out and find a little privacy (hopefully away from the cameras) is a positive. Maybe they will even be able to have a few rooms that are totally camera free. Also, Kate seems to have an issue with the current lack of space (especially in the kitchen), so maybe more room will help her relax a little which would be good for the kids. If they do opt for a more secluded property it may be isolating for the kids, however it may also be a relief for them to not see other kids in the neighborhood playing all the time, but know that they can’t leave the driveway.

I have to add some more observations before I forget:

I too noticed one of the little girls chewing GUM, while Jon tried to back into the driveway. Maybe she's already 5 years old! When Jon was backing in at the beach, did anyone hear him SCREAM at the kids to shut up?

Also, I too noticed Leah/Alexis HIT Jenny. I wonder what would happen to her if she did that to one of her parents. Now that I know that J/K hit their kids (and the kids have seen Kate hit Jon), I understand where the kids learned to do that.

Upon consideration, I've thought of something else about the Outer Banks that should appeal to Kate. It's really rather CLEAN. You don't see any litter or rubbish on the streets or on the beach. There's no boardwalk/honkey-tonk area.

That house they rented, at the height of the season, with the pool, is probably more than $3,500/week. We do not know yet, but I wonder whether it is ON the beach or how far it is to beach access. That would also affect the price.

And all those houses come equipped with pots, pans, etc. for a large number of people. The house they were in probably slept at least 15 people. They definitely have LARGE pots and pans. And there are quite a number of nice supermarkets there. I fail to understand why Kate had to bring all her food -- and clothes -- for the entire 2 weeks. (Yeah -- the houses all have washers/dryers too.)

I could not believe Kate saying: "I never knew there were places like this!" I guess when the high point of your life is going to Disney World, a natural habitat would be rather impressive. They were enjoying themselves and there were NO princesses.

I, too, would not want the Gosselins anywhere in Virginia. What a farce it was to see them look at TWO properties and decide they have to build from scratch.

As for holding the tups back in school, where I live the tups would not be eligible for kindergarten until Sept. 2009.

----

That was indeed how I interpreted that. I have gone back on forth with the homeschooling idea. Kate doesn't like her kids much, why keep them home, unless the new house has a seperate school room where she wouldn't lay eyes on them for 8 hours....I think she will send them off.

"Again, I would like them to interview the children on camera and have them tell about their day. They're old enough to communicate. I know they do this sometimes (boys' golfing day out w/dad) “we pushed the ball”. But instead of the replay by Jon and Kate, I want to hear the kiddies tell me what they thought."
_________________________________________

Are you kidding? The kids will tell the real truth and Jon and Kate's ultimate plan to exploit them will be ruined. No nice million dollar house, no more free clothes/surgical procedure/help/money/vacations. They would ruin everything for them... since, you know, they are the godsend and all and deserve nothing less than designer clothes and big houses and that top spot on the pedestal. And we just simply can't have that now can we?

It is interesting that with the acccomedations they have and TLC picking up the check for these trips Kate finds it necessary to takes everything but the kitchen sink along.

I checked the Olive Garden site and there are 2 in NC. One in Fayetteville and one is Cary. Not sure if those are near the Outer Banks.

Anna, They could have camera free zones in their current house and much more room if they stopped production on this show. It is so far from being about a normal family trying to raise their children. Also with their self-proclaimed hectic filming schedule, how do they have time to get the kids ready for pre-school or kindergarten. All of their energy seems to be producing their show and building their empire.

Kristyn said...

Further proof that they had no intentions on buying that house and have already started building:

A poster on IMDB reminded me of something I was thinking of yesterday. Weren't the twins told they could have their own rooms (and they were at that white house)? Yet the house only had 4 bedrooms?

Sooo did I hear wrong, did they edit weird, or what? I think that J&K were talking to the twins about the house they're building and TLC used that footage for some reason to describe the white house.

Up until recently I admit that I was a Kon fan. I thought that Kate was really inspirational (I know, I know). I'm a stay at home mom and I thought "oh if she can do it with eight kids then one kid is a piece of cake". I liked the show when it was about a "normal" family living their day to day lives. Well then I found this site and now it's one of my daily websites that I have to check! When I was watching the show last night I was thinking "oh I can't wait to see what will be on the blog about this". ha ha I am disturbed by the fact that Kon has gotten rich off of their kids. It's like a carnival act or something. How can you put a price on your children having normal lives? I have one child and EVERYTHING I do is about keeping her happy, healthy, and safe. I mean I really think they love and care about their kids for sure. But I REALLY think that they have gotten so caught up in the money, fame, etc. Well mostly just the money. Because they don't want to be bothered with those pesky fans that have made them all this money. These kids will not be able to have a normal childhood for years, if ever. There have been other multiples born who are living normal lives. Sure they are on Primetime every five years or more but that's it. People are curious but you don't have to make life like the Truman show. And there are so many freaks out there in today's world! I mean I'm nervous about starting a family blog because I don't want strangers staring at pictures of my child. It's just so creepy. I don't know how they can justify all of this and sleep at night. It's just not right. And I don't think I'll be watching it anymore. Although it is like a trainwreck so who knows? I don't even criticize Kon for their discipline styles, germophobia, bickering, etc. It's just the fact that they are EXPLOITING those kids more than anyone I can think of. Other thoughts...

the tups need to be screened for speech therapy

mady should be screened by a mental health professional, poor kid

Who on earth would let three year olds walk up to the top of a lighthouse?! I could barely watch that part! How incredibly scary. Yes I am afraid of heights but come on!

I live away from my family due to a poor job market where I grew up. My child gets to see most of her relatives a couple of times a year. That makes me sad but it's financially how it has to be. Anyway, I can't believe people would move away from FAMILY if they didn't have to. They can financially make it in PA (obviously) and those kids have family there. Oh it's just sad sad sad...

I doubt Kate will have a problem with not laying eyes on the kids in an 8000 square foot house. I doubt if she will be able to find them and will probably spend most of her time in the jacuzzi tub. Wasn't the Duggers house 8000 square feet and there is like 20 of them?
