Camping Out Recap

Title: Kate and Kids Plus Coleman Commercial aka "Camping Out"

On this charade of J&K plus 8….

Kate starts out by explaining that they still have eight kids, they are still “are” kids, they still enjoy things and so….they wanted to camp! More like they needed fodder for an episode to make the kids appear happy while Kate puts on a brave face in light of recent events.

The show starts with a familiar scene... the kids' daily routine of playing and riding bikes in the driveway so the "P" people can see how happy they are. Today is Kate’s first "turn with the kids", she says it feels no different, it feels like the future! Well, she is right about it being different-she has always taken a turn with the kids-every few months, when the cameras were around or when it suited her. continue

So the kids asked to camp, and "they" (the production crew?) pick out the hottest day.  Kate is going to be a martyr and camp with her kids, they want to camp gosh darn it.  It isn’t their fault that things are falling apart.  Kate has a new attitude, she is going to do things she has never done before.  She even put a screen in a window!  How did the "P" people miss that photo op?  This is a difficult time for the kids, Kate laments, her main goal is to make things easy and painless for them.  What better to do to get their minds off their failing family then to have the kids star in a 30 minute commercial for Coleman?  Kate is a good sport-if she has never grilled before, damn it, she is going to grill (look for section on grilling in upcoming cookbook)!

However, there IS one thing making life less painful for the kids.  THEY ARE EATING POPSICLES WITHOUT BIBS!  At age five no less!  Ok, I know those of you who watched the earlier episode saw the bibs being banished, I did not watch it but my mom actually called me at work to tell me about it.  Lord have mercy.

Kate announces that she is going to put a tent together now, DUN DUN DUN DA!  (She actually makes this fanfare noise)  Actually, what is really happening is the production crew has staged the yard to look like Kate is putting the tent together.  She tells the help where she wants to tents to go, as if this has not already been predetermined.  They splice together some shots of Kate and the kids holding tent poles and her opening bags.  While she opens a bag of parts Hannah reminds Kate that Daddy knows what is in the tent bags, Daddy knows what they are, Daddy knows everything about tents.  Kate says simply, "Daddy's not here."  There is a shot thrown in of Kate "letting Joel do it" so we know she isn't hating on him.

A newish feature of the show... couch time with the kids!  I know it has been done before but this is every few scenes.  Not surprisingly, there are only couch scenes with the girls-either the twins together or the girl tups-not a single one with the boys.  The boys are probably zipped into the tent so they won't get the new couch set dirty.  The girls all say how badly Mommy put the tent together and the twins are afraid it will collapse in the night, since she is putting the tent up that they will be sleeping in.  The girl tups say that she doesn't know how to do it and Leah and Alexis point out that Kate is a girl and only boys know how to do it.  Nice thing to be teaching your girls Kate, right on!  That ought to be Chapter Six in the parenting book, "How to teach your girls stereotypes and prepare them for marriage to a chauvinistic misogynist."

NEWS FLASH:  It looks like Hannah got her hair cut in the couch scenes.  I hope Jon or the not-a-nanny did it while it wasn't Kate's "turn" with the kids.

Kate finally gets the tent half ass assembled, and it is all crooked (unintentional product placement for Crooked Houses?) and the kids tell her it doesn't look done.  Kate then admits that she sort of put that tent up but then the big tent comes rolling in, perfectly assembled and she is forced to admit that the production crew set that one up for her, and by the way, remember to buy Coleman tents!  There is a cute, but very staged, shot of Kate on the floor of the tent with Leah on top of her and Alexis crawling in the tent's dog door.  Of course Alexis would crawl in through the dog door!

Hold on to your seats ladies and gentleman, the Gosselin's HAVE A POOL!  Yes, the oft talked about but never seen pool has finally been revealed and it does appear to have a wooden fence around it!  The kids, mostly in water wings and inner tubes, frolic about in the pool, the camera mainly focusing on the girls.  Poor Ashley, Carla's daughter, who again, must be on a mission from God, is working for them during the summer.  They show her briefly and then the rest of the show you only get to see her below the chest.  No face time for Ashley, they might have to pay her or something.   Ashley is there today because of the "campfirey thing" and Kate doesn't want to be the only adult (plus three PA's, the director, cameramen and the not-a-nanny) around.  Plus, if the twins can't handle sleeping alone in the tent Ashley can sleep with them.

Kate drones on about how it was a hot day and the kids wanted to go in the pool, which is a daily occurrence around here.  In Katespeak this actually means "I needed to get some shots in of me in a bikini since the "P" people haven't published any lately." The tups seem surprised that Kate is in the pool with them and she seems uncomfortable with them in the water.  She complains about how cold the water is, she is a sun worshipper you know.  I guess in Kate's religion you can worship both sun and money.  One of the girl tups looks at the cameraman and says, “Are you watching?” before jumping in, more interested in him than her mother.  There is a cute shot of Collin(?) with a bucket on his head asking if we like his hat.  The twins tell us that Leah and Alexis can swim now, but Hannah only wants to jump off the diving board with lots of inner tubes so her face doesn't get wet (diva in training anyone?).  One of the boy tups gets out of the pool and is shivering, and sadly goes over to the cameraman and asks, "Can somebody get me a towel?"  The girls rely on Ashley to help them get wrapped up in towels.  Kate is nowhere to be seen until we hear her yelling at the kids to put all the pool stuff into the boxes.
Back to the camping commercial.  There is a long shot of the kids in their Crocs, just focusing on their feet, obvious product placement.

The kids talk about how the best part of camping is sleeping in a tent, roasting marshmallows and S’mores!  Hannah says they will be having S’mores for breakfast, even though it is dinnertime.  Kate however, refers to them as Schmores, probably so she can copyright the original recipe for her cookbook.  Genius that she is, Kate has come up with the idea to put slices of banana on the Schmores!  Watch for the recipe folks! Kate starts to freak out, it is 7:45 and getting late, the Schmores should've been started hours ago.  Kate brings out a tray, obviously arranged by a PA, with bananas, graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows and her ever present Fiji water.  Kate then lamely attempts to start a fire in the fire pit.  Even though someone has already set it up she has trouble and takes 45 minutes to get it lit.

JenTru said...

The kids get impatient and cold (on the hottest day?) but then encourage her, "Mommy, you can do it!"  The not-a-nanny must be teaching them some positive qualities.  Kate tells us not to call her if we need someone to start a fire by rubbing two rocks together.  Ok Kate.  I promise not to call you.   Kate says she doesn't understand the principles of fire because she is not a pyromaniac.  Well, then Jon must not understand the principles of sex because he isn't a nymphomaniac.  Great logic.   Cut to the twins on the couch saying that "Mommy isn't naturish."  Yes, another great quality being passed on-made up words.  "If Mommy lived with us in nature we would die."  Well said.  One of the twins also tells us proudly "Did you know that oxygen makes fire bigger?"  Kate (or someone) finally gets the fire started and Aaden says, "The whole world's gonna have smoke in it."  Thankfully, Ashley takes over the fire and most of the marshmallow making.

NEWS FLASH:  I did not hear the word "organic" mentioned once throughout the whole episode.  Amen.

In between shots of the Coleman lantern, Coleman glow sticks, Coleman tents, Coleman chairs and Coleman sleeping bags, the kids finally get their Schmores.  They do seem to have fun toasting the marshmallows although Kate is a nervous wreck because kids are running around with sharp pointy sticks near a fire.  The kids mostly burn the marshmallows (which Kate says over and over)  but seem to enjoy trying to toast them.  Alexis has a recipe for S'mores that I would buy in a cookbook:  "Mommy puts the chocolate in.  I put in the marshmallow, then I shut it, squish it down and eat it!"  Kate blabs on again about how dangerous the marshmallow toasting is, and how messy (BUT STILL NO BIBS!), and says the tups had too many of them.  We pause for a moment to focus on the Coleman lantern and glowsticks, Cara thinks it would be cool if the lantern could spin and be like disco lights, and they could have a party in the tent.

Kate then gives us some sage parenting advice about how she strategically planned to have the showers AFTER the Schmores.  I am sure that will be included in her parenting book along with having the kids sleep IN their beds and having them brush their teeth AFTER they eat.  The tups again ask the crew people for help, not sure how to activate the glowsticks.  There is some staged playing with the glowsticks.  Cara and Mady go off to their own tent, where they are happy not to have to sleep with the "munchkins".  Kate tells everyone it is "seriously late" and they have to go to bed, even though they aren't tired, too bad, she is.  Kate loves them, but she says, she loves her sleep more.

Kate and the tups settle into their Coleman gear and put up battery operated Coleman fans and glowsticks on the top of the tent for "decoration".  Kate, trying to be funny, calls out, "Goodnight Jim-Bob, goodnight Mary Ellen."  She forgot John Boy.  While we see them in their tent via night vision, Kate says, "Goodnight my little pigs."  Then she tells us that she was sure it was comforting for the tups to get to sleep with her and how she thrilled she was to be surrounded by all her babies, forgetting, momentarily that this excludes Mady and Cara.  She recovers by repeating it and changing it to "surrounded by my five year olds".

JenTru said...

She says that Cara and Mady slept alone and were annoyed that she thought they might need Ashley to sleep with them, so "lucky Ashley" got to sleep in the house. Kate says repeatedly that she heard the twins giggling and talking and could hear everything they said-reminding us how happy and well adjusted they are. Everyone goes to sleep and then starts waking up around 6:30 am. Kate actually doesn't complain about the early rising but then you really don't see her after this, so I assume she went back in the house to sleep in. The girls again say that they had fun; the marshmallows were their favorite part. The producer asks Kate if she would ever go camping in the wilderness. Kate giggles, "I can't answer that. Like where there are bears? Camp like a real person?" Real person. That about says it all. Thanks Kate! She ends by saying she will go camping again. She'll do it for her kids. She'll do anything for her kids. And she'll tell you about it over and over.

Add Coleman to the list of stuff I am never buying again.

NOTE: I did not watch the episode prior to this so, apologies if the pool and Hannah’s hair were not “news”. Also, I always get the kids mixed up…so sorry if I got a few names wrong!

Don't worry about the ratings. The show will dissolve eventually. The kids are only getting older and less cute.

Would you watch 8 kids at Maddy and Cara's age all day? Nope! Kids at that age have their minds and can be annoying.

Their divorce is fresh so people are still curious. It will die down.

The kids will be encouraged to sue their parents if they don't get their college tuition and living expensive for 4 years.

Karma is a #$#%.

What will happen to Kate? Depression and paranoia that her kids will sue her. Boy! Will she be depressed when her kids are old and she can no longer use them to get attention and money? It's going to be hard to cope. By herself, she can't get audience.

You do alot with very little, is about all I can say.

The show has to die. It's become excruciating.

I read that the veiwers love everything Gosselin and that viewership was twice the amount of the last eppisode. I read that it was 4 million veiwers. I can proudly say that I was NOT one of those 4 million people. Sick, just sick.

Ha! US mag reporting ratings down 61%. I guess Michael Jackson has knocked them off the front pages. Thank you MJ!!!I guess Kate will be scrambling now. I foresee more sightings of Steve, and Kate will be visiting the Maryland area a lot now to drum up interest. Also more naked, drug-addicted bimbos for Jon to be photographed coming out of restaurants with. I guess all his girlfriends mysteriously disappeared as quickly as they appeared, huh? The Kevin and Jodi PR blitz last week did not work either. I didn't buy that at all. I think mainstream media is bored with them and have moved on to bigger news. Thank you Paula Abdul and American Idol. I hope TLC, Jon and Kate enjoy the life they have created for themselves in the gutter. I feel bad for their kids.

I was surprised by the obvious editing in this episode. When Kate was putting up the tent, they showed two of the tups waiting for their cue, then running toward her peppering her with comments about how "Daddy does it better." One of them even started over after perhaps not saying her line correctly? It was very odd, and this episode seemed far more staged than anything so far.

Very good recap JenTru. I found the episode rather boring actually. Very silly, edited and just plain boringly strange. The combo between the camping and the swimming - then the switching to the various chair interviews. If I went back tor re-watch, I believe the chair interviews took up as much air time as the actually show did (?)

There was a real disconnect between anything shown I felt - no flow. Guess that's what happens when you have to heavily edit anything to air.

Great re-cap. I do have to say that this show was just wierd! The new K is just wierd! I don't know if it is that we have all seen the Wizzard behind the green curtain (wizzard of oz) or it has just gotten more wierd. K isn't naturally a nice person and when she is trying to be nice and loving to her children, it is just wierd. It has to be one huge mind game for them... nice mommy, mean mommy, nice mommy? oh, mean mommy!

Amy G.: yes, thank you!!!! It was *so* obvious that the two tups were waiting for their cue to run down the little hill and start shouting "Daddy does it better" comments at Khate.

Excellent recap! This line made me LOL. I haven't watched in two years..relying on the recaps for any info on the show. It spares me having to listen to Kate's constant 'untruths' and whining and having to watch these children being parented by total nimrods.

It is totally beyond me how this show has remained on the air. And, if this woman winds up with a show of her own I cannot imagine anyone being able to sit through it without wanting to put a rock through their t.v.

It also amazes me how companies still want to have their products associated with this family after all the negative press that's been happening of late. Of course, I guess any press is good press so these companies realize that no matter what, there is still going to be a big viewing audience.

I guess it's up to those of us who care about the welfare of these children to write these companies and tell them that it might not be a wise thing to associate with a tv show that espouses the exploitation of children for the almighty dollar. Shame on all of them!!

I totally agree about the staging - in all the scenes. Way too much hamming for the cameras - by all the kids.

And if I watched it over again - I swear there is as much if not MORE voice-overs and interviews than actual footage. There were several scenes I can remember where you didn't actually hear what was going on in the scene - cuz she was "explaining" to us (dumb) audience people what we were watching /...............duh

It is sooooo obvious that Kate or someone from her crew reads this sight. For example, there are constantly comments about never seeing the kids in the pool and low and behold..."dum dum dum da" the pool is in this episode with Kate stating "it's a daily occurance". If it's a daily occurance why would she be so surprised at how cold the water was? I guess a massive cold front went through the night before.

Thanks for the feedback form for Coleman. I've never done this before, but since I'm a camper, I felt I better.
Here is what I wrote.

Sponsoring the Gosselins with your products has made me feel less of your company. Do the families of the "Coleman Crowd" know that they are contributing to the exploitation of children? Next time I camp, with my Eureka tent, I'll let the "Coleman Crowd" know of your sponsorship.

Sponsors take warning said...

Coleman lost every ounce of intergrity for being a family values corporation with good products when they signed on with Jon and Kate. Viewers have come to find out that Jon and Kate are big fat liars and if they say they use a product and that product is great, viewers know they are reading lines from a script where the product has been inserted and the entire show is about selling that product. The exploitation of these children has to stop. But no, now we have at least 3 episodes coming of the Gosselin children going camping with their Coleman gear. Sponsors, take note, you are really pissing us off and we'll be boycotting your products so long as they are attached to Jon and Kate.

Amy G.-you are so right about the eidting and obvious staging. It was more like a scripted show than ever before! The couch scenes really seemed forced and like someone was feeding them what to say.

I just sent this message to Coleman:

I WILL NOT WATCH the Jon&Kate+8 charade of family life! However, I understand your products are now supporting the sad experiences of 8children during their parents divorce.

You can kiss our money goodbye.

Our family is a camping family. We camp to enjoy the closeness, the fun and the group effort camping provides. While camping, every member of our family feels their own value in how they contribute to the experience.

The Gosselin family is not close, their fun is a manufactured farce, and the parents only see the value of their children through the selling of their childrnn's future as functioning and well adjusted adults. How can the Gosselin children grow up and enjoy "normal" lives, while all of America views their family self-destruct?

The Coleman Company should be the last company to contribute to such a mean spirited drama. Shame on you!

We, and many other American families, want the Coleman Company to stop their support of the Jon&Kate+8 exploitation of 8 children! Find another show. Withdraw your support. Issue a statement that Coleman will NO LONGER SPONSOR this terrible abuse of 8 young lives.

Our family will do without purchasing your products unless you listen to the voice of real parents, crying out to protect the Gosselin children.

(thanks to JenTru for the recap, and the word charade instead of episode, both great)

I bet she isn't worried about bears, she's worried about not having P.A.s to set up tents, start the fire, and arrange the "schmore" tray. Then of course there would be the lack of assistants, camera people, and the not-a-nanny.

Even Kate admits how unreal this all is!

To Whom it May Concern:

The recent episode of J&K plus 8 featured your products. Unfortunately, TLC and M/M Gosselin are in the "market" of selling their children for money. These children have no voice of how they are *used*.

My family and I are going camping next week...and not in the backyard. Coleman products are a major brand but not the only brand for camping. I will think twice about purchasing your products due to your support of this sham of a show.

The message here is child exploitation. No one should support it.

Did anyone notice the scene where the large dogs were squeezed into one of those cages in the house? Dogs are pack animals and would love to be part of the kids' pack. Sad.

Interesting how the kids are only filmed a couple of hours on any given day (according to Jon) - sure doesn't seem that way in this episode.

Also, if I recall correctly, weren't there pap photos of the TLC crew setting up the big tent? If so, I'm sure that's the reason why Khate fessed up to having the PAs involved in setting up (rather than a sudden need to actually tell the truth for once).

Why are the p-people around to catch Jon but never Kate? IMO it's because Jon is being used to deflect attention from Kate and they tip off the p-people. If the p-people really cared they'd be all over Kate too.

JenTru: Thanks for a great recap!

So, Hannah got her "gorgeoso" hair cut?? That's quite something since last epi I saw, Cara wanted to grow her hair long and Hannah wanted to get hers cut, but Kate The Controller of All Things, did just the OPPOSITE (naturally) by insisting Cara get her hair cut, while refusing to allow Hannah to shorten hers. During that episode, Kate The Controller announced to us (and asked Jon to concur) that Kate deserved alot of credit for putting up with Cara's hair covering her face for months (wow, Kate, how very saintly of you). Apparently on Planet Kate, it's ok for Kate's hair to cover half her face though, based on that beyond-bizarre 'do she's currently sporting. "It's my attitude! Everybody wants it," says Kate. Clearly Delusions of Grandeur at work here!

What??? Kate actually got IN the water?? This, too, is quite a change from previous seasons, where we were always treated to a shoreline-only Kate BELLOWING constantly (completed, of course, with those oh-so-attractive looks of disdain daggered in Jon's direction) and an eye rolling extravaganza) for Jon's failure to hold the kids' hands in the shallow surf. Wow, it took divorce to get that woman out of her beach chair throne to actually interact in the water with her children? Clearly, divorce isn't all bad.

And now it's 'comforting' to have all her 'babies' sleep with her in a tent??!! What about that stern (and ridiculous) warning at the first visit to the mansion, when the kids were told NEVER to enter the parental bedroom "UNDER PENALTY OF SEVERENESS"???! Who knew a tent could warm up Kate to the extent she actually wanted to share quarters with her kids? Must be a really expensive tent model from Coleman to inspire such maternal warmth!

And, finally, what bet from hell did Ashley lose to have to do time being Kate's slave, uh, I mean 'helper'????

You are so right: this was no mere episode, it was a charade!!!

Kate & The Bodyguard: Inside Their New Lovenest
August 4, 2009

While all eyes are focused on her skirt-chasing estranged husband, Kate Gosselin has set her sights on a romantic hideaway in Rockville, Md. — less than 40 feet from her bodyguard boyfriend, Steve Neild!

As we report in this week's issue of Star, multiple sources confirm that Kate —in spite of her denials — has bought a luxurious apartment in the Palladian Condominium, where she can spend time up with Steve while her soon-to-be-ex-husband Jon Gosselin has his turn watching their eight children
.

"Kate is definitely going to be living here," says one building insider. Kate tried her best to keep the condo purchase under wraps, but her secret got out anyway. "She negotiated and bought the place in her lawyer's name," explains the insider, adding that Kate paid about $700,000 for the one bedroom lovenest.

"Kate feels like she has her cake and gets to eat it too," snipes a friend of Jon. "She has the big house with her children in Pennsylvania and a hideaway with her new love in Maryland. What more could she ask for?"

Long time lurker...
I haven't watched in a long time, but based on the recaps, I am beginning to think that the kids actually do need the crew around, because that is the only time they can count on their mother's behavior. They know that when the cameras are rolling they can expect Mom to act a certain way. The rest of the time, her behavior is so erratic, that they probably have to walk around on eggshells. Can you imagine what it must be like with no cameras rolling? IMO I think that it would cause damage to have the crew leave to a certain extent, because then they would have no baseline with which to measure their mother's behavior. I advocate the demise of the show, but I hope that there will be a new "crew" of shrinks and docs around to help with the transition.

Jen Tru ~ Brilliantly recapped! Thanks for getting to the truth of what really was going on with that episode.

And Hannah was coached on her lines to Kate, while she was saying, "Daddy knows how to put up a tent. Daddy knows where that is. Daddy knows what is in there." Hannah glanced over to the production person and then back to Kate before she cited her lines. This is getting ridiculous, and yet I was so glad they made it obvious, so the world can see these kids are acting out roles. Nothing is real...it's not reality at all.

Guess what everyone!? I can set up a tent all by myself without instructions! I even did it when it was pitch black out with only the light of a small latern on our last camping trip. There were tons of Coleman boxes in the garage. What happened to all the camping stuff they bought for their camping trip last year? I guess it wasnt good enough bc it was used once.

KATE WAS IN WYOMING WITH THE BOYS FROM JULY 29th AND STEVE NEILD WAS ALONG??? AND SHE IN FACT DID PURCHASE THE MARYLAND CONDO..40feet from STEVE? THE BEST PART IS THAT SHE PAID $700,000 FOR THE CONDO WHICH IS IN HER LAWYER'S NAME!!! THE CONDO ASSO. SAID SHE WANTED IT KEPT QUIET, BUT IT GOT OUT. So here we go folks, again deep and dirty on Kate's part. She is pure EVIL. I do not want to ever hear a soul TRY to defend her.

I think what is most insulting is TLC thinks we actually BUY THIS CRAP?!? Everyone knows that Kate Gosselin is the Wicket Witch of the North-East... why is she still acting like no one knows?

Bit of advice Kate - if you're going to be "pretending" to be a nicey/nice mom who actually cares about spending time with your children then DUN DUN DA - that makes you an ACTRESS!!
Now why don't you go audition for some roles (haha) and start working instead of putting your kids to work?!

Might be kind of a bad idea though since you ARE a horrible actress... sounds like you need some coaching or acting lessons. Maybe your PR people or TLC will pay for that? Hey, why not? They pay for everything else?

I saw a repeat of this show last night. Kate had logs put in the grass around the open grill. I am not a safety expert, but this seemed dangerous. I always thought grills should be set up without anything under them that could catch on fire. Also, the kids could have accidentally tripped on one of the logs, falling into the grill or hurting themselves with the sharp prongs. What a thing to show viewers who may remember seeing this and do something similar. Even though she had a helper, Kate should have been at the grill with her kids instead of sitting in a chair.

Paige said...

I noticed another staged moment. When Kate was setting up the tents, there was a shot of Aaden and one of the girls standing there for a second, and then for seemingly no reason (an off-camera cue?) they run forward saying, "Mommy, what are you doing?"

And then I changed the channel.

O.K. I just don't know what to believe anymore. First it is reported that Steve resigned, now he is is Wyoming w/Kate and the boys. IMO TLC production crew is off w/Kate and her adventure w/the boys and bodyguard Steve. Kate would never do anything on her own (even w/Steve) with the boys. There has to be a camera/production crew around. To me that would be a watchable episode especially if they are in Yellowstone, but have a feeling it will be Jackson Hole (popular w/celebrities) I kind of find it funny that they got to Wyoming w/o the paps finding them as they did in Carolina getting off the ferry. I camped for a week in Yellowstone in a RV and it is really roughing it. No electricity water hook-ups. Thank goodness the restroom were near where we were. I remember walking and the kids amazed as they saw a dead carcass in the lava. So that is why Just Jon's "babysitter" babysat overnight. I just wish someone would tell the truth for a change. The lies are confusing me can you imagine if you are spinning the lies how to keep them all straight, which is what is happening now, Bumblehead Jon can't keep his lies staight and daily contradictory lies come out of his mouth. Disgusting. But one good thing yesterday was a Gosselin free paps day and hopefully today.

Disgusted said...

I have not seen any comments about the show's introduction--they have reduced it to only Jon & Kate saying "it might be a crazy life, but it's 'are' life."

First, they eliminated their tale of not getting pregnant on their own, having twins, and then trying for 'just one more.'

And so they have reduced their voiceovers to a oneliner--all they leave is the part about being crazy. How ironic. Crazy describes a lot of things related to this show. Hopefully this is analogous to being just one step closer to eliminating the whole thing!

Why not just say "this is not our life, but you think it is!" Do they think they are being more honest now? This is so pathetic.

Just shoot me said...

How is a show with these two idiots--Jon and Kate--constantly just talking to the crew supposed to be a show about them living their daily lives?

Did anyone notice the scene where the large dogs were squeezed into one of those cages in the house? The kids were playing with those glow things just outside the door and the dogs were watching them. Kate should have let the dogs sleep in the tents with the kids. Those poor dogs are not pets, nor are they watchdogs. I feel sorry for those animals and wonder if the man who sold them the dogs now feels bad about it. Dogs are pack animals and would love to be part of the kids' pack. Sad.

Sorry, doglover, I don't agree with you. I've seen many, many pictures snapped by the p people and the dogs seem to always be around the family. In fact, they are always pictured standing right next to one of the kids. They look well cared for and somewhat protective of the children. As a person with two dogs, it is hard to even cook a meal without them under foot. I would NOT have had my dogs running around if I were putting up a tent and making s'mores with five year olds. Imagine the amount of chocolate they would have consumed if they were included in this activity. I think there is a time and place for animals during family activities (not saying this was an actual family activity... but we have them at my house) and this wasn't one of them.

My family and I have happily used many Coleman lifestyle and camping
products for many, many years. However, due to your clear and direct
involvement with the exploitation of the Gosselin children by obvious
product placement on their horrific television show, we will NEVER
purchase another Coleman product again. I will also replace all items I
currently own that are Coleman. Your PR staff needs to do much more
thorough research on your endorsements. That family is a disaster - no one
I know wants anything to do with any company that supports the televised
downfall of a greedy, dishonest scamming couple like Jon and Kate
Gosselin. Maybe Colemen can make a "moral compass" for the Greedy

I agree, some of the Kate-tourage must read this site. Hey, someone who is a member of the Kate-tourage, can you ask The Queen to tug on her ear lobe at some point during the show. You know...kind of how Carol Brunette did to send a secret message to her Grandmother. I want a secret message from Kate. Come on Kate-tourage...make it happen! Oh but wait, I don't watch the show. We just returned from 8 days camping on the beach in NC. Funnily enough my 11 daughter and I were the ones who put up and secured our tents to keep them from blowing down [it is darn windy at the beach let me tell you :)] So much for only boys being able to do it.

In addition we also put the grill together - with tools and parts and things! oooooooh.

Dang! We are so naturish.

No slight to their Daddy/my husband [he did all the driving!], but he works really hard and we had a good time doing it instead of him for a change.

Now that we are home we have decided to purchase a pop up trailer for our future beach trips, but I can guarantee you it WILL NOT be a Coleman.

Thanks for the links and the recap [I didn't watch].

I have to agree with saratogachris. Although we've never done kennel training with ours many people do and it was appropriate to have them kenneled during this - although maybe they should move to the next size kennel to give them a little more room. The GSD's do look like they're well cared for and they appear to be well trained. I've got a puppy in obedience class right now (English Bulldog) and I can only hope he'll be half as well trained as the GSD's - however, bulldogs take every command as a suggestion and decide whether or not they're going to comply.....

--------------
A lot of the GWoP posters could see the writing on the wall when it came to the dogs and voiced their concern loudly here. It particularly breaks my heart because we've had German Shepherds in the family and they are such loyal, intelligent dogs who need an active life, involved with their human family, feeling purposeful (yes, they have feelings; they benefit from having a "job" just like border collies and other breeds like Golden Retrievers who can be so good at Search & Rescue). I'm sure the dogs get a good run on all that property but, as you indicate, the sadness to us dog owners is Kate's apparent dismissive attitude toward them as she has often demonstrated toward her own children. Having to make any effort toward those two dogs is, to Kate, just one more thing to do on her exhaustingly exhausting list of "to-do's." What a waste of two beautiful canines. I'd like to think the dogs could be good therapy for kids caught up in chaotic events. I'd like to envision the dogs curled up near the kitchen/dining fireplace on a cold winter's night. What I'd like to hope for is unlikely to be the case when it comes to those dogs. I remember the discussion on the reality show about dogs; Kate was speaking of a standard poodle because they don't shed. Jon wanted big, outside dogs. So, he got what he wanted; problem is, he isn't there every day now, and it's imaginable that Kate's not going to go out of her way for dogs of Jon's choice.

jasmine.......I so agree with you about her using the extra logs as a barrier around the fire. They could have tripped right into the flames as they were going back and forth between the chairs and the fire. She has a yard full of trees - how about getting some extra long green branches and have the kids stay seated in their chairs while they toasted the marshmallows? (That would have also eliminated the danger from the metal spikes she gave them). Oh wait, the trees in her backyard didn't have any corporate sponsors, so scratch that idea. What was I thinking? Money over safety and common sense!!

And I love when she complains that she has so many of "them" (referring to the kids) and laments about how hard it is to do anything with them. She acts as if she never planned for that many. Yeah right Kate! You wanted just "one more"! Tell us another one!

I was looking at this http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kate-Kreider-Gosselin/194567295283?v=wall&viewas=15800253&ref=search

We all know it is probably not her, BUT...I wanted to puke on this one: "Took Hannah, Leah and Alexis to the doctors today along with their blankies and chewies. It's such a struggle doing it alone."

Really? Taking three kids to the doctor? Hmmmm, I take four ALONE since their wonderful Daddy is at work providing for his family. And guess what? I don't have "non-help" staying back at the house taking care of the 101 things I will have to do when I get back.

It is called parenting. It might be a new concept to you, Kate.

Unreal!

And I don't know what makes me more ill...the obvious propaganda-esque site that pops up right after the news of the split to play the martyr card, or the comments from the folks who are just to dumb to think for themselves and see beyond the hollywood hype and bad hair.

This is what I sent to Coleman:
I will no longer be purchasing your products, given your support to the Gosselin Family. Exploiting children for your own gains, in addition to supporting their parents blind ambition is distasteful, to say the least. How about supporting homeless people, given the economic climate out in the world? Not giving freebees to a woman who treated her uterus like a clown car and is now celebrated for this.

Yes and did you ever think that his judgement of who he married and fathered 8 children with was any different? I don't think so.

We are now seeing the "true Jon & Kate" and neither picture is pretty. Amazing how even the creative editing of TLC can not show a good side to either of them now. It is all out there for all to see ( unfortunately their children too) and scripting and editing does not change who they "really" are one bit.

I wasn’t aware that the Coleman Company was in the business of exploiting children. On Monday night’s episode of “Jon and Kate Plus 8”, the blatant placement of your products throughout the entire episode was disheartening. We have always used Coleman products, trusting you with
our tents, lanterns, coolers, life jackets, and several other purchased products. We were safe in the wilderness and on the lake when we had your products on our side. We trusted the reliability and the stability of the products. That being said, all of the Coleman products I have purchased are currently in a trash bag in my garage. Yes, I have thrown away several hundred dollars worth of your products because I refuse to participate in the active exploitation of 8 little ones. You should be
ashamed of the decision to contribute to the abomination that is “Jon and Kate Plus 8”. I am participating in a boycott of all your items until you issue a statement that the Coleman Company will no longer participate in

It's so sad that military kids are given coloring books titled "Until Your Parent Comes Home Again". The books tell them that they're special because their parent hs a job in the military and helps to protect our country. It goes on to tell them that that "when your parent goes away you may feel sad but remember that you parent loves you." Khate - you and Jon are doing this by choice!

It's sad that these greedy folks get evrything handed to them. If coleman wants to do something why not donate to military families. I'm sure many would love the free stuff and love to camp out in the tents "just like dad/mom". I am sick to death of these two!!

My other thought at the moment is that I believe the first and foremost reason Khate wanted out of the marriage was so she could have more of their money for herself. That is just so obvious. I think that even before "Mr. Gray" became an issue, she probably had an idea that Jon was not so enthused about the show anymore and that it might be kind of easy to get him out. Having a new "friend" just gave her that extra feeling of power. Jon is a goob right now, but still not as evil as she is. He has potential to level out someday but I don't think she does. Oh, and I think "Mr. Gray" is blind. Has to be. I send my support to Mrs. Gray. I hope things work out well for her.

I'm done for now. Peace and love ya'all.

So Kate decides to pop out 8 kids and then exploit them, then goes camping for free. I ALMOST was happy for the Gosselin family when they got remarried. But, there is absolutly no reason for them to get everything for free. When I found out that those naive Coleman fools gave them all the proper necessities for this obviously set up "happy" camping trip, I almost lost it. I want to quit watching this show, but I pity the children. As for the Coleman Company, I would never do business with those resposible for exploiting these innocent children. It just plain out makes me sick.

"How did she look in the bikini on HD TV? How did the plastic surgery look?

She looked beautiful."

She did?? Not on my tv! She looked like she did in all the tabloid pictures. She was ORANGE, she stood around like 'look at me' when normally she hates the beach, she has a rectangular, man's body and fake boobs..What was beautiful again?

---

Beauty is subjective. Why do you care if someone thought she looked good?

LOL...good job JenTru....you are true 'camper' to be able to work your way through the minefield of that episode....shame on Coleman.
When will it all end....pahhlleeze.

I'm sorry that it's so hard for you Khate! My DH is deployed in a war zone so I'm responsible for doing everything on my own for my kids as are many military families around the world.
*******
My husband is away on a military trip too, even though it's not exactly a deployment this time; it's only for 2 weeks. But I took my little ones to the clinic today for a back to school physical. I don't have a nanny so I had other ones in tow. Come to think of it, WHY is it so difficult for her to do this because of a separation? Many SAHM's do it all the time with large families. Dads do not come along on doctor's appointments all the time. She just has no idea...

My 11 year old decided to camp out tonight in the backyard and Dad's away. I actually helped him put up the tent. It was one of those pole ones like Kate put up. I didn't once have the desire to stick out my jaw and bare my lower teeth. It really wasn't all that difficult.. and there were no instructions.

Beautiful in a bikini? Let's minus the FAKE BOOBS and TUMMY TUCK.Now talk beautiful.

The thing about the bikinis, and I don't think she looks bad, just has a thick frame, is that what woman on earth other than a supermodel wants to be on TV from behind bending over in a swimsuit?? I just don't get that. I'm in decent shape and I workout to stay that way, but wouldn't want my almost-bare behind on TV. I mean good for her that she is happy with her body but it just makes me wonder even more...

Oh and about why the paps didn't get pictures of her putting in a screen--it must not have been near the driveway!!

In reply to Annie's question about Jon not being on much and was just on for the chair interview.

I just read an interview with Jon where he said that he has equal custody of the children and is there just as much as Kate. He said that Kate was trying to be seen so much more than him on the shows so that it will look like she is there more and he, not much.

He said that he was tired of being called the bad one. The article was in InTouch, I think.
It was good.

Kate is so stupid. She has EIGHT CHILDREN ages 8-5. Taking THREE 5 year olds (as opposed to all 6 of the tups, or all eight) to the doctor should be a breeze at this point. What is it about taking 3 children to the doctor ALONE that is such a struggle? The children are more than capable of walking themselves to the car, getting in their seat and buckle, get out and walk in to the doc office, sit and wait their turn etc....It's not like she is dealing with 3 newborns at one time, or toddlers for that matter. These are school age children for goodness sake!

Kate's parents have owned a campground in Elizabethtown, PA, for years.
Camping is really this foreign to her?

You do realize that you and the prior poster are responding to a post on a FB page that is most likely snark and not actually Kate's, don't you?

Be that as it may, that really is Khate's attitude. If it is snark they captured her perfectly and I stand by what I said!

JenTru, I wanted to thank you for the fine recap! Now that I won't watch TLC even for my faves like WNTW, I am out of the loop and will depend on GWoP and its talented recappers.

After lurking at this blog non-stop for the past year or so, I could not help myself from hopping onto this thread.

Recap was hilarious. I don't watch anymore - not into sham television.

I must say this: both myself and my husband have long despised both Kate AND John's deplorable behaviour as parents. Before we were married we'd watch and basically verbally scewer those two for entertainment ( tho we LOVED how cute and funny the children were, and felt so sorry for their exposure to such soul sucking parents ) but eventually we had to stop watching because it was just too much and the exploitation was out of hand. Now I stay up nights in the wee hours, caring for my newborn son. Only now, do I fully realize how horrible this woman truly is for treating her own flesh and blood like they were showdogs. I look down at my infant and wonder how on earth a woman could abuse ( mentally or physically ) her children. Now I know there kids who have it waaaaay worse than the Gosselin children, the mental anguish is all there on film for them and the whole world to see. No one should have to relive their worst childhood memories and their tiranical mother on reruns.

I just keep hoping for the cancelation, and that the kids get the counseling they need to help cope with the damage that's already been done.

Funniest moments from JenTru:

"Kate tells us not to call her if we need someone to start a fire by rubbing two rocks together. Ok Kate. I promise not to call you. Kate says she doesn't understand the principles of fire because she is not a pyromaniac. Well, then Jon must not understand the principles of sex because he isn't a nymphomaniac. Great logic...Kate then gives us some sage parenting advice about how she strategically planned to have the showers AFTER the Schmores. I am sure that will be included in her parenting book along with having the kids sleep IN their beds and having them brush their teeth AFTER they eat."

These recaps are 'way more interesting than the actual TV show.

Kate's moved on, from being a mom who was starry eyed about her babies, to being a part time show mom to her abandoned pack of piggies. I tried to not watch then swtiched over for a peek, then switched out after confirming that nothing amoazing is ever going to happen on this show. The scene of the girls reciting their lines about Daddy Daddy Daddy knowing all about the tent was so contrived, so Kate could show how she is handling their remarks about Daddy and the fact that they miss him, on cue. It felt very contrived - more contrived than usual, like a commercial for Coleman, but how pathetic is this, as a camping trip? My God. And the sexist comments the little girls are being taught to say about how only boys can do stuff like put up a tent (the PAs who did it are presumably boys) won't serve them very well in real life, however I'm sure TLC contrives those moments just like they do the hateful stuff they elect to show on Toddlers in Tiaras - they pick the worst, and if the kids aren't hateful enough or rude to generate controversy, they will put words into their mouths. Very nice.
Without Daddy there to abuse and ridicule and order around, this show will get fewer viewers - sad to see that America didn't love Jon and Kate they loved to watch Kate treating Jon like crap. Nice that the viewing went down over 60%- great.
Would be funny if it spiked on Jon's episodes and tanked on Kate's. People might like to see a dad struggling with the stuff moms usually do while watching Kate order someone else to put grapes on a paper plate isn't very interesting.
The recaps are better than the show. I didn't watch it long enough to see Hannah's hair cut or notice it but luckily for her she was allowed to do with her own body what she chose to do even thought the Hannah product is the long haired one (wait for the dolls - where are the merchandising efforts? Kate, wake up! You've missed an opportunity to exploit the kids!)

Jon Gosselin is not too bright. Did he ever think one of his hanger on hunnys may pop up and claim he impregnated her? And what if they tricked him by saying they are on the pill when they aren't! I wouldn't put it past some of these seedy women who are looking for a free ride on the Jon money gravy train to take advantage of the vulnerable Jon. There goes the millions dollar lifestyle that Jon is use to. I see 8 plus more little Gosselins a foot if Jon doesn't watch himself.
As for Kate. I hope Neild takes her for all he can get then dumps her bum at a Maryland Crab Shack.
I've never seen a woman so lazy. I have no problem taking my 10 little ones into the doctors by myself without help.
The Gosselin Children are spoiled. The little ones are so underdeveloped in their speech that you could tell Kate nor Jon never took the time to teach them correct pronunciation. Kate can't blame that on them being multiples and the problems that come with having multiples. Lets face it Kate has no patience to deal with 6 active tuplets and two pre-teen girls.
Now that I think of it does anyone remember if Kate or Jon ever snuggled with the kids and read to them on the show?

This is what I sent to Coleman.

Ouch. Bad mistake plugging Coleman gear in the latest Jon Minus Kate Plus 8 charade. Not good. My husband's birthday is coming up and he was going to receive a Coleman lantern for camping out with our little girls in the backyard, but I will not be buying your products.

The Gosselin family has made a fool of the American viewing public who have put their trust in this reality show. The American public does not forget being made a fool of. Ever.

You've just associated the stand-up Coleman name with the Gosselins. That makes me want to gag.

Nice move Coleman. Who exactly is your marketing director and how stupid do you think women are? Assembling a tent is not all that difficult for us "girls". Nice product placement, I'm guessing the man in charge of this marketing campaign also had a hand in the Barbie doll released years ago for young women that repeated over and over again something like I Hate Math, I'm not good at it.
