In reference to the Joel being loved comments. How many mothers would sit there and say "One day a woman is going to fall in love with his looks and then realize how clueless he is." Yeah, okay, I definately want parenting tips from this woman.
Yikes! I guess that explains how she feels about Jon because he can't read her mind and even though he can bathe, dress, get the kids off to school, heaven forbid if Katie gets off her arse to do something for the children and he doesn't jump up and ask if she needs help.
Poor Joel, he's going to have no self esteem at all if his parents don't stop crapping all over him. What did that poor child ever do to them to end up being thier private scape goat. I hope he develops a healthy imagine from some encouraging teacher and becomes rich and famous on his own merits and repays his parents in kind. He'll have a treasure trove of video to use to show what treasures he had for parents.

I need to correct something I previously posted. I had said that I don't think that there's anything wrong with the way they treat Joel, but what I really should have said was that I don't see anything wrong with the way JON treats Joel. In all honesty, I had forgotten about the episode whereKate put him in the laundry room. That's a horrible thing to do to your poor, sick child. Now that I'm remembering the ep, I recall thinking that I couldn't believe she would do something so uncaring and mean. The whole making-fun-of-his-lisp thing, I could go either way on. I don't think it's something that will damage his self-esteem forever, but that doesn't make it right. He seems to be growing out of it, as most kids do...Who knows? Someday he might watch the DVDs and be like, "I sounded so silly when I was little." Or he might watch them and ask his parents why they were so mean to him. We honestly have no way of knowing how comments like that affect Joel, because we are not Joel.

Joel could possibly have speech problems because of a hearing problem. I'd probably have a hearing problem if my mother was constantly screaming in my ear. I wonder if he's ever been taken to the doctor over this. Kate won't do it because he's "icky." I don't know if Jon would do it or not, I guess it depends on if he can find time between the gym, golf and kissing Kate's a**.

I admit I don't know Jon and Kate personally. But I can't believe they were ever as destitute as they say. Jon had just come back from backpacking in Europe when they met. Then to have a wedding at a 1920s mansion. C'mon, I don't understand why people are not catching on to this. Looks like to me that they have always used every person to their full advantage though!

There have been plenty of studies that show that this sort of treatment of a child does indeed effect self esteem. It is also tool used by abusers that cause the person they abuse to buy into the idea they deserve the punishment, bad treatment they are subjected to because they are fat, stupid and so forth. He has already started showing the affect of this behavior with the zoning out. The only thing we don't know is how badly he already has been effected and if it's reversible. I do hope he has someone come into his life to show him, tell him and otherwise let him know how wonderful he really is. There is no need to be Joel to know this sort of treatment is benign

No, they couldn't have been as destitute as they claimed. I got a laugh out of Kate whining that they paid for thier own wedding. Right, Kate, and where did you get the money to have such a lavish wedding if you were a poor little working girl? I also would find it hard to believe they were as bad off as they claim because they owned their own house that was in a nice neighborhood and in good shape when Jon was just working in retail and Kate was working as a nurse. Not something you'd expect from people who cry poverty and need to scrounge around in the couch to get mortage money.
From my understanding, they not only got money from Jon's father but also there are some more Gosselin relatives in FL that have given them money. From what I've read in articles regarding Jon and how he could afford to just skip college and be a slacker his family was pretty generous to him.
I do wonder how they qualified for Medicaid when they owned cars and a home. My mother has next to nothing to her name yet still doesn't qualify for assistance. I might have her move to PA since apparently having assets doesn't limit the ability to get assistance. It also sounds as if they had a pretty penny socked away in their accounts from their share of Dr. Gosselin's estate but were unwilling to spend any of it because they felt they were owed by the world because they choose to go forward with their October round of IUI even though Kate had been in the hospital for over stimulated ovaries. Yet, it became the job of PA to pay for those babies and their needs per Kate in the article in the local paper because fertility drugs were so easily available.

I agree with and would like to add to the comment, "Joel could possibly have speech problems because of a hearing problem. "
I work with young children with communication disorders, which are common in young children. I emailed J & K and mentioned that they may want to investigate processing issues for Joel. Especially after the parenting episode in which Kate describes joel's "glazed look" which she attributes to being his defense mechanism.
perhaps he really doesn't understand, or hear what is being said. maybe that is why he missed being in the family photo at the train station. perhaps that is why he always seems to be distracted, as Jon so cruely immitated.

I've been lurking for a few weeks here. For quite sometime I believed I was the one out of step. When I said to others ,"this woman(Kate)is crazy", I was looked at with pity for being completely out of touch.
I just watched the Train episode.I'm more than shocked at the out of control behavior of Alexis. This is way over the top. She was hitting her leg as hard as she could with her fist. Her reaction was completely out of control for any age child.I've read here from others they also had problems if their hair was touched. But this reaction? This poor child has serious problems. Does anyone else see this? Does anyone know if any of these children are getting the they so desperately need?

Maybe Alexis gets her hair issues from her dad also, he has always spent lots of time in front of the mirror and changes his clothes numerous times before going out. Did you notice on one episode Kate told him to change his shirt and after changing several times he ended up with the original shirt on? I think both of them have serious issues and I also think Kate has been reading blogs because all of that affection in Strasburg looked pretty fake to me. I really wish they would quit with the Kon outings for hair implants (that was just disgusting, all three of my kids and I cringed seeing that), etc and stick to BOTH sets of multiples. Does Cara even exist anymore???

I agree that the kids seem to have a difficult time handling their feelings and expressing those feelings appropriately. I know that around 3 or 4 is a time when most kids struggle with that very issue, but the Gosselin twins also have problems and the tups are not getting any better. Okay I get that "hair issues" can be real , but someone needs to show Alexis or whichever child is in meltdown a different way to handle those feelings. And yes, I know that meltdowns are real; I don't mean to imply that only kids with "bad parents" have meltdowns. But good parents help kids figure out ways to handle their emotions to avoid meltdowns.

The ONLY good thing that I think comes out of this show is the exposure of the abuse these kids endure. I cringe to think what happens to these kids when the cameras are off. When the gravy train is over, will she blame them?
Will she take out her agressions of having to deal with a "normal" life on them. I also hope these kids are not homeschooled, otherwise they would never be exposed to state workers who can intervene if medical, emotional or any other problems occur. All I know is that Kate is spiraling out of control FAST, and as someone quoted "Taking away support systems is a sign of an abuser."

I would never eat at Kate's house, I know I would never be invited anyways. She does the girls' hair
in the kitchen, she clips fingernails at the table. And there are so many potties setting around the house you know it has to smell like urine. And as someone else mentioned, you never see the kids wash their hands or use toilet paper. I guess she is waiting for Kandoo to supply her with wipes. And let's not forget the pulling of the staples. As Kate would say, "Icky!!!!"

Also, I asked them to please update their site, as far as the ages of the kids and the "no college funds" set up yet.

Good for you except they've said in the "Answer Viewer Emails" episode that any emails that seem even remotely negative, they delete them before they even finish reading them.

If you imply that you want to donate to the college funds, I bet they'd send some current information PDQ. That might even get them to update the website. Sneaky, yes, but it would probably get them to read the email instead of deleting it as "negative."

Looks like these kids are having the time of their lives. I like to watch all the interaction on this show. When are we going to see the family pets? Looks like they don't have any yet.

I just wanted to comment on a few things that people mentioned on this post.

First of all, they live in Lancaster County so it's not "going on vacation" to drive a short way to the local railroad and do a small day trip. Four year olds love Thomas and it's obvious the kids loved being there. I've been to the Strasburg Railroad myself at least 4 times, the last 2 times was the Thomas one - the most recent is the June one that just passed. I remember thinking, I bet J&K will be here at some point. We went on the 21st and it wasn't too crowded. I think Kate mentioned it was only there for 5 days, but it was really there for 2 weeks. She must of meant only 5 days left so they probably went on June 17th Tues. I was a bit surprised they had the first train to themselves - BS that is. My sons are 4 and 8 and both equally loved it there. We'll probably go again one last time.

Secondly, it isn't expensive to go there. If you aren't staying over, tickets are not super expensive. We stayed over because I didn't want to be rushed to get there at a certain time.

Last of all, my husband is always taking our boys on day trips to NYC or around NJ. He looks for things for them to do. It's not going on vacation, it's spending time out with your kids. So what if they are always going somewhere with the kids, it's not like they are in school. It's summer. How boring would it be for them to be staying at home all the time anyway.
