On this completely real, not at all staged or poorly acted episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8, Jon and Kate are given bikes by the nice guys at Orange County Choppers. Ignore the fact that you already were told that Jon was paying for his bike in the American Chopper episode that aired five days before this. Or that you already read about here or saw this entire episode if you watched the American Chopper episode when it first aired or the repeat right before this episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8. Tonight’s special guest stars are Paul Senior, Paul Junior, and Mikey Teutul from TLC’s American Chopper.

The episode opens with Jon and Kate sitting in their driveway on their favorite plastic chairs. It’s nice to see that with all their money, designer products, and Kate’s ever present iPhone, the $4.99 lawn chairs from any fine drug store near you have remained the same. The Teutuls pull up the driveway and we hear Jon tell us that he was given a bike from OCC. Now remember, I told you to forget that the other show claimed Jon was paying for it. TLC needs to get their act together on these crossovers and have the editors and storyline crews work together to keep at least a bit of consistency. Kate immediately insults Mikey and tells him he’s hairy. Mikey has better manners and doesn’t tell her well, yeah, and you’re a bitch like I would have.

Jon, on the couch alone, gives a plug to American Chopper, telling us the day and time it airs. Kate’s alone on her couch, all sprawled out. When asked if she watches the show she stammers out something that resembles a yes, although she doesn’t know why she’s watched since she doesn’t like motorcycles “generally speaking.” Well, Miss Thang, when they (or TLC in all actuality) give your husband one of their bikes, it’s always nice to at least pretend you are interested and like their product. Especially when that gift is worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Jon and the OCC guys pal around in the driveway for a bit and then Junior and Senior pull Jon away to “plan” his bike while Mikey offers to help Kate with the kids. If you’ve ever watched American Chopper you know Mikey is a complete goofball and a kid at heart. Mikey pulls out Charlie the puppet from his backpack and entertains the kids at the picnic table. The kids are having a ball, they giggle as Charlie tips off the table over and over and over. While the tups loved it, Kate can’t pass up an opportunity to criticize and says “ It was just really not a puppet show that any mother would ever be proud that her children partook of... “. Again, Miss Thang, be happy for what is offered to you for free and stop badmouthing it. I’m sure Mikey could have found something other to do than entertain six of your kids. J&K’s editors were kind enough to cut out the blurred shot of the not a nanny that you saw on the American Chopper episode.

Meanwhile in the backyard, in a not at all staged scene, Jon is with Junior and Senior talking about what he would like on his bike. Senior voiceovers that Jon has done some research into what he wants and is going to come to his shop in New York to help fabricate and build the bike. The editing monkeys got loose in the room again and they cut out all the parts where the three guys could barely keep a straight face while pretending to plan this bike for the very first time. The part where Senior tells Jon that the money for the bike is due up front is lost too. Which is worse... pretending to pay for it on American Chopper or pretending it’s a gift on Jon & Kate? Either way, I’m sure TLC paid for the bike. Consistency, TLC, consistency. That’s all I’m asking here.

Senior is going to take Kate for a ride and suddenly, I’ve seen this before. And it’s not even from the American Chopper episode. I’ve seen this before that even aired. The P-People were kind enough to photograph this for us.

Pics

Look at the time and date... 4:45 on Friday, May 22. This will be more interesting later. (I need to add as a disclaimer, before we get 75 comments saying that maybe the pictures were taken earlier and just not published, I confirmed with a senior editor at Radaronline that the date stamps on these photographs are in fact the days the pictures were taken.)

Kate rides off with Senior, no helmet on any of them, and tells him he’s sweaty. She tells us on the couch that it’s okay she didn’t have a helmet on, PA doesn’t have a helmet law. Which is true, the law was repealed in recent years. She also says it was okay since they were going slow. Last I checked, your head could still crack open if it hit the pavement at any speed. I know the decision to wear a helmet or not is a very personal choice for many bike owners, but when you claim you can’t ski or ice skate with your kids because it’s too dangerous and you might break a leg, not wearing a helmet that could save your life is an odd choice at best. And let’s face it, a helmet could only help that hair at this point.

Jon tells us that the next morning Junior and Mikey came back to the house and Senior went back to New York. The kids are all playing in the driveway in their little Powerwheels type cars and their bikes. Mikey and Junior return with an art project for the kids that Kate says looked like it was “recovered from the trashcan, organization was not there.” Holy crap, Miss Thang! Seriously? If that bike really was a gift from OCC, I’d be sending her a bill right about now.

Mikey pours what looks to be an entire aisle from a craft store on the picnic table. I’m not sure what kind of project it was supposed to be, but it involved foam pieces, glitter, and glue. How can you go wrong with that and little kids? The kids loved it, Jon says they were occupied by it for hours. Kate concedes that the kids had fun and so did she. “It was the messiest, junkiest project ever.” Is double billing an option?

Junior and Mikey play with the tups for awhile in the yard. I know neither one has kids, but they do have nieces and nephews are are wonderful with the little ones. A tent is set up in the yard for lunch. We get to see some shades of the real Kate. Shoka and Nala come running over when the food is brought out, you know, like puppies are apt to do. This causes Kate to freak out and start screaming. We don’t see the screaming at Jon and talking to him like he’s a second class citizen part that we saw in the American Chopper episode. Or the part where she tells him to put the dogs in their crate where they belong. Kate and TLC have obviously decided that they better tone down the nastiness we saw in the previous 96 episodes they aired before this season and are leaving her really ugly moments on the cutting room floor. I guess the American Chopper editors didn’t get that memo so they went ahead and showed them to us. Thanks American Chopper!

From her plastic throne in the garage Kate tells us the guys were fun, but they looked a little tired. They were great entertainment for the kids. Somehow she makes it thru the segment without badmouthing anyone or anything. Junior thanks Jon and Kate for having them, Mikey says he doesn’t know how they do it all.

This episode is different. Instead of having the kids say their lines of “Coming up next on Jon and Kate Plus 8”, they’ve got the guys from OCC saying it. Cute.

So now Jon is at OCC to start production on his bike. You know supposedly after May 22. He gets to hang out with the crew at OCC and actually help build a bit. Senior harasses him and gives him a hard time the entire time, but it’s obvious Jon is enjoying himself. If you’ve ever watched American Chopper, you know this is part of Senior’s personality and that it must have taken a lot of editing since the language at OCC is, um, colorful. There are shots of Jon putting various parts on the bike, polishing stuff, and working with the Teutuls and the other guys who work at OCC. Jon tells us that this is the first time he’s got to build something, do something that he enjoys on his own, do guy things, and hang out with guys. He’s been doing guy things, but with kids. We learn that Jon used to weld. Paul Junior says that Jon is locked in an estrogen zone and it was nice to pull him into a testosterone zone and get him with the guys for awhile. Senior appears very proud that Jon took all his ragging. Uh, duh! Jon’s had plenty of practice. Not for nothing, but I’m sure the crap Senior gave Jon was nothing like what he’s heard from Kate. We didn’t hear anything remotely close to what we’ve heard her say to him. Those editing monkeys got loose again and cut out the part where Jon joked that he doesn’t have male friends, just female friends “as we all know”. Thanks again American Chopper.

Back at the Gosselin estate, it’s time for bike delivery. And again, this is looking familiar before I saw it on either show. And again, that’s because I’ve seen it before.

More from Radar

Time and date... 6:53 May 23 (And look, isn’t that Mr. Gray? Bodyguards in their gated yard. Must be a rough neighborhood.)

And here (sorry about the language, but it’s got more pics)

dlisted

Again, May 23.

So, a day after the supposed planning meeting took place. Now, I’m no mechanic, but I do know a bit about building bikes. No way in hell was this timeline TLC is trying to shove at us legit. Unless the OCC guys have some magic wands or genies, bikes aren’t fabricated, torn down, painted, and rebuilt over night. So, TLC, remind us again how this isn’t acting for the kids? This is just a family living their lives, doing what they normally do, cameras just happening to capture it. Right TLC? That’s what you are telling the state of Pennsylvania, right? It’s not a staged show, it’s a documentary, isn’t that what you claim? Oh, and you only tape for a couple hours, two days a week too. Now, I’m looking at a calendar. The tups birthday party was on May 17. That was Sunday. The same week, Friday and Saturday, you were churning out this episode. I’ve got pictures to back it up. I’m counting at least three days, and who knows how many hours. Tell us again how these children aren’t working. If you say it enough, maybe I’ll believe it. But probably not.

Rant over, back to the episode. Junior rides up the drive. Somehow, Jon’s bike has become all about Kate. Mikey rides up on a pink Vespa. TLC cut out all the parts where we saw Kate tell Senior to build her a pink bike for the J&K version of events. She criticizes the gift a bit and I’m thinking triple billing is in order. Jon is much more gracious and raves about his bike. Kate says she instantly knew she wanted to donate her bike to the Ronald McDonald house, she had a charity event coming up. She fails to mention that Ronald McDonald house canceled the event.

Kate rides around a bit, screaming and freaking Junior out. She’s flying around, no helmet again. Jon says she almost hit stuff multiple times. She’s screaming she can’t steer and Junior keeps yelling at her to hit the breaks. Her lack of self awareness allows us to see just a bit of how huge their estate is. The drive looks to be half a mile long. Jon finally gets to ride his bike, cuz you know, this was supposed to be about him.

Kate decides to take Mikey to the spa. You don’t know what this has to do with Jon’s bike? Well, hell, neither do I, but let’s just go with it. At least the editing monkeys got the sequence right on J&K. According to American Chopper, Kate and Mikey went to the spa before the guys even came back to deliver the bikes. Which is true, I don't know, I’m more apt to believe the American Chopper version, but the J&K version makes more sense storyline wise. Kate says Mikey can really make her laugh. It would have been nice had she stopped there, but she keeps mocking how hairy he is. Mikey gets his hair washed and combed out and it’s off to pedicures they go. The spa associate offers Mikey a drink or a magazine and he says he’ll take UsWeekly. This earns a big cackling laugh from Kate. The poor woman behind her is probably deaf in her left ear now. Oh, and how funny Kate found it. Oh so funny. Yeah, right. Kate says she’s going to do a charity with Mikey, to do something with kids and make kids happy. Oh, I know, how about you just sit in your yard and play with your own kids? That would be a novel idea. Those bad monkeys played around again and cut out the part where Kate told Mikey it’s been so long since she’s got to go to the spa. Really? Didn’t we just see you at the spa? I’m really liking the editors at American Chopper much more than the J&K version.

In what TLC claims is the next day, Kate takes the tups to Ronald McDonald House to donate the pink bike to be auctioned later. Again, we’ve got photographic evidence this wasn’t quite the case. Now, I didn’t confirm the date with JustJared, so maybe it’s possible they got the date wrong. But I doubt it. And if they did, that means the kids were working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So, TLC, which should I believe?

justjared

Notice it says they were there Saturday, May 23. What, did she shove the Vespa and the kids in the minivan before the Teutuls even left?

She rambles on and on about how she’s never ridden before and she rode this pink bike. I doubt the woman at Ronald McDonald house cares. And neither do I.

I agree with you in that the editing didn't make any sense. I forgot to look, but was Mikey wearing the same clothes at the spa and when they delivered the bike?

Does anyone know if the number of viewers for the rerun of the new episode at midnight is counted in the number of viewers that TLC releases to the press?

I was thankful that the kids were barely a part of this episode - no kid interviews, no routine kid drama being inappropriately filmed for the world to see,, just the parts where the tups are entertained by mikey's puppet show and craft project. They genuinely seemed to enjoy his company. Not that I'm commending the kids' forced involvement in the show whatsoever, but I was glad solely on their behalf. Kate, of course, stole most of the show, and I say the more airtime TLC gives this woman as opposed to the kids, the better, as it gives new viewers the chance to discover how rude, needy, whiny, and self-absorbed she is.

I was shocked at the way Kate immediately insulted the vespa she recieved from OCC, saying it looked "just a mess" because of the paint-splatter design and commenting on how the guys apparently couldn't remember the kids' names, having written just 'girl' and 'boy' next to some stick-figure renderings of the kids that were part of the bike's decoration (at least I'm pretty sure that's what Kate was snarkily commenting about, although I didn't get a good look at the bike's design close-up, I was too busy flipping the channel and trying not to vomit). Kate, you're seriously going to criticize these guys for not remembering the names of EIGHT children they don't even know? Obviously the guys could have found out the names of the kids if they really wanted to, but I imagine they wanted to put as little time as possible into the decoration of a bike that wasn't actually wanted and would just be auctioned off. I couldn't help but wonder whether the paint-splatter design was supposed to look like there was pink bird crap all over the bike, a subtle way for the guys to tell Kate what they think of her... I can totally see them doing that.

Kate is definitely gaining weight, as has been noted in posts on earlier episodes. It was pretty obvious when Kate was sprawled out on her couch during her interview and the size of her calves was clearly visable. No way would I call her fat or criticize her weight if she was any other mother. But I reserve the right to laugh at her because it's Kate. Even after the tummy tuck, despite having (I'm sure) access to a personal trainer, god knows how much expensive workout equipment, and meals that are more than likely prepared by a 'helper' chef who would be able to portion them correctly and design them as lean and healthy... despite all that, Kate is starting to put some weight back on. Here's a suggestion, Kate; instead of spending your days sitting on your ass bitching to the cameras from the couch, sitting on your ass at the spa, and getting away to sit on your ass on the beach whenever possible, try playing with your kids. Get involved in even a fraction of the housekeeping and child rearing that you are now paying others to do, and I promise you, it won't be so hard to keep weight off.

Kate should set proper example for her children and wear a helmet on the bike but then again we are talking about a woman who would rather flip through bed catelogues than attend to her son crying in agony over constipation, him begging and pleading for her to help him. She is one cold heartless cow.

"And let’s face it, a helmet could only help that hair at this point."

Loved that!

I couldn't watch this episode at all. It made no sense to watch after watching the episode of American Chopper. It was like they just used all the same footage, but added couch scenes, which frankly, didn't add much. No wonder the viewership was down.

I have to say, it's interesting the way Jon continues to sit in his same spot and leaves a spot open for Kate on the couch. While Kate just sprawls out or sits in the middle. It just shows that she's been done with him for a while, but he's still respectful of her.

******

It must've not been too hard to find out the names, because the Chopper guys took the time to write down all the kids' names on Jon's bike. They wrote the names on an image of a ribbon, and it looked really nice.

I think you're right about them splattering stuff on Kate's bike. Why bother taking too much time? I do think it look cool, though. I just don't get why she was so ungrateful to them when she ASKED them to make her a hot pink bike! Why is she angry for getting something free she asked for? Maybe she was just angry they were making Jon a better bike so it wasn't all about her. And she was mad they seemed to like Jon more, so she wanted to bad-mouth them. It's pretty rude of her.

And her attempts to hog the camera are looking more and more pathetic. Like when she came over and did a craft project of her own with all the "trash" and was showing it off for the camera? Okay, Kate, are you 5 years old now? Do you really need to do a craft project using the "best" parts (instead of letting your kids use them) and show off your little tree and talk about how yours looks the nicest? Why not help YOUR KIDS with their projects and praise them like the Chopper guys were doing? They're total strangers to the kids, but still better with them than you are!

Those are the Neilsen ratings and they are only based on the first showing, so the 9 PM eastern. They do not include later showings such as the 11PM eastern, which is the broadcast a lot of people on the west coast would catch.

Fostersmom, I give you a lot of credit for spending the time to write up an episode that was 85 percent redundantly redundant from the American Chopper hour long escapade.

It is amazing how insincere and unappreciative Kate is. TLC should have sent her to the Spa and let the Teutuls spend the whole day with the kids, free from the Kate tyranny.

How can the sheeple even stomach this bull anymore? I've seen comments on sites that say things like, "Oh, I just watch 'cause the kids are so cute." Well, it ain't about the kids anymore.

Kate can go light her over-tanned self on fire for all I care. She trying waaaaay too hard to appear likeable and laid back because she knows she needs some damage control. It's not working Kate. A few episodes of fake smiles isn't going to erase 100 episodes of her yelling and emasculating behavior.

One positive thing I can say for Kate: I'm glad she's putting on a few pounds again. There were some episodes where her clavicle was so prominent I thought I'd barf.

Overall, great recap. But my oh my this show is a joke now.

A helmet? Are you serious? Does anyone really think Kate would ever subject herself to helmet head? What if the pic ended up on the cover of a magazine with a piece of hair out of place?

Vaish said...

So correct me if I am wrong, but in one of the earlier episodes when Kate was called out on her constant yelling and over all grouchiness, she said that she would not want to look back at the episodes and see herself not being real. She did not want to do something for the camera and the show that she would not regularly do if the cameras weren't on. My how things have changed!!!! I feel like this entire season has been all about Kate doing things only for the camera! It is really obvious that she is completely fake and puts on a show. What happened to the woman that wore sweat pants and t-shirts without any makeup around the house! Its not like she wasn't anymore annoying, but at least she wasn't putting on a show. She was tolerable because she was doing things for her children with the occasional treat for herself and Jon. What happened to the time they spent with each child alone to make them feel special. What happened to all the arts and crafts and the notecards of encouragement all around their home. I fell in love with the show for showing us the everday life of a couple struggling to raise their huge family. The tips that Kate gave, whether they were real or not, were useful. My favorite was the grocery shopping episode where she cut her bill in half using coupons. I understand that with the popularity of the show came the ability to afford better and bigger things. I think to be honest, most of us would want nicer things if we were able to afford them. What makes me angry about the show is that these people are not trying to live like the everyday family they claim they are. What average family takes 3-4 vacations per year! Especially in this economy! I can understand the reason for the big house. They do NEED the space. But instead of taking these freebie vacations and handouts why not request for monetary donations to the children's college funds. (since they are so worried about college). I am just really dissappointed in this show. Of course nobody wants to discuss their divorce on national television. Fine, we can accept that. But to put a "I'm-here-for-my-kids" spin to it just shows that these two people have no class or maturity least of all concern for their children's happiness. So what if they are having problems. If divorce happens, fine. It happens 50% of the time. Probably more. What I would really like for J&K to do is to accept that their marriage is having problems and turn off the cameras to figure out if they are staying together or separating. All the guest stars in the world are not going to make their marriage seem real. Its actually embarrasing to see the two people pretend to be married but degrade each other on camera. I don't think these were the childhood memories J&K had planned when TLC first approached them with the show. The best thing for family to do for this couple is to show them the last few episodes and ask them that if this is what they wanted to document for their children. Jon was worried about Google results his children would find in the future. Well, they have true documentation that their parents approved to show how selfish and immoral they are. Thanks TLC for showing +8 the spiteful nature of our parents!!!

I love Mikey! He was so great with the kids! That is what I would want to see - people caring and having fun with the kids [like maybe their parents?] instead of the self absorbed crap that are KON.

I only watched OCC. I don't mind keeping their ratings up - they are funny! I haven't the last 10 episodes? and will never again watch J & K Crapsslin.

I am so happy their ratings are ONE THIRD of what they were a few weeks ago - nice going KON.

Instead of 'boy' and 'girl' they might has well have just put '$$' next to each stick figure!

In my opinion, there is no doubt that this marriage is over. They are only saying 'we don't know what will happen' to keep people watching just a little longer. My hope is that behind the scenes, Jon is making a case for the divorce and custody issues, all the while letting her think she's still got the upper hand.

I think extra credit is also due to the writers of all the recaps because let's face it, it can't be easy anymore to even write a recap of this god-awful, boring, freebie-filled, annoying show.

You don't have an easy task, and yet you do a great job!

I did notice the blurred face of the non-nanny (I THINK I was watching Jon & Kate, not OCC), and how Kate was going on & on while the "non-ny" was helping the kids with lunch (on paper plates again, thank you very much!). It galled me to see Mikey (who was so sweet!) talk about how much Kate needs a break, and how she said she hadn't been to the spa in such a long time, yada, yada, yada...
I didn't get what her big deal was about wearing jeans to ride the chopper...I thought for sure she'd burn herself or fall off the pegs with those ridiculous shoes she had on!

what a stupid comment for 'her' to make about them not 'remembering' the kids'names to put onto that pink Vespa. Did they not pan across then to Jon's Bike where a very intricate & Ornate scrolled effect had ALL the names of the children embossed onto HIS bike?
This woman sadly needs a brain transplant :( ..

as for using helmets? I could really care less if she falls off and cracks her head open - there is obviously not much of a brain in there to be injured! BUT!! it really bothers me that the children are allowed to be riding around on motorized 'vehicles' bikes/cars etc without helmets EEEK! even their bicycles.....

Ratings are down again this week from 3.8 million to 2.9 million. That's almost a million viewers that have tuned them out. I hope that with the recent pics of Kate spanking Leah, a million more will tune out and this show will eventually go off the air.

... I can understand the reason for the big house. They do NEED the space.

************

I think that if I hear one more person say that the Gosselins NEED that much house or that much space, I will implode.

Seriously.

I am the mother of five wonderful children who are all grown. Two no longer live in the house, one is currently serving as a church missionary in Brazil (this is still his permanent residence, though) and two are still living with their dad and I. Our house is approximately 2100 square feet with three bathrooms and five bedrooms. When we moved to it, I was enthralled with having a house this big. When the kids were small, we either lived in military housing (never large) or the first house we owned was only 1200 square feet with one bathroom. Was that a tight squeeze with five kids? YES, but we survived. Were we even happier when we moved to this bigger house? YES! But have I ever thought I NEEDED a larger house than this one? No.

I have plenty of friends who have had families as large and even larger than the Gosselins and raised them in much smaller houses.

Kids do not need McMansions. They need loving, nurturing and attentive parents. Material possessions cannot compare. If you asked my grown-up children what their happiest memories of growing up were, I'll bet not one of them would name any items we bought them and they certainly wouldn't remember the prices. They're more likely to say the best times we had were the camping trips and picnics we went on.

And if I had as much acreage as the Gosselins have, you can bet a large portion would be plowed under and turned into organic garden space. My property isn't big, but I have an organic garden in my back yard.

Kate immediately insults Mikey and tells him he’s hairy. Mikey has better manners and doesn’t tell her well, yeah, and you’re a bitch like I would have.

You missed the Winston Churchill-esque punchline: "Yes, madam, and you're a bitch. But at least I can shave."

I'm still laughing at that. Awesome. I would pay to see her face after someone said that to her...but then again, she probably wouldn't get it.

Is it just me or are the episodes getting progressively more boring and fake? I'm sure they'll lose even more viewers after this lame excuse of an episode. Also, if TLC is reading this please tell Jon to stop saying "sick". It makes me sick. Literally.

I feel bad for all the cows being compared to Kate. Although we're out of luck whatever we call her because I don't think there's an adjective/metaphor bad enough to come close to compare. Poor cows.

What really gets me is how she spends every episode telling the world how wonderful she is and how impressed everyone is with her...

I didnt watch the whole show, but caught a clip on youtube and she says on the couch how the OCC guys thought she "was such a cool mom" and 'hey you're a really cool mom riding that Vespa' and how she was really impressed with herself too.

Give me a break. I'm a mom and have a Harley, a Buell Blast and a Vespa GTV 250. I ride with my husband on the weekends, ALWAYS wear my helmet and even have a pretty cool leather jacket.

Her screaming on a scooter down her driveway hardly impresses me.

I'm sorry, but when did it say Jon was paying for the chopper on the AC episode? The one implication I saw was when he, Paul Sr and Paul Jr were sitting, and Paul Sr joked "We want payment upfront!" But it was a joke. Not a demand of payment.

Donna said...

Wow...this episode was my favorite episode of all time!!! It will be the one that I always remember! Why you ask? Because it is the one that has finally shown me that I am no longer interested!! Before anyone says anything, I have not liked Jon and Kate for a long time! Between things I read here, magazines, websites plus long before all the drama, I had a friend tell me that her friend was a neigbor of Jon and Kate (at their old house). And she went on to say how "un-friendly" they were. I always took it with a grain of salt, but at the same time believed it. Then when they started getting all the publicity and it was much the same as what I heard, that pretty much proved how "crazy" those parents are! But I kept watching the show each week. I couldn't stop. It felt like I was watching a train wreck and couldn't turn away. In it's early days, I got great ideas for day trips since they don't live that far from me. But now, I watch all the really $$$$$$ stuff/trips they get and I say "why them?" They obviously don't need that free stuff anymore. Why not some local homeless family? Or a very poor family? Or even a regular family who is on a very tight budget? Why can't a normal family get a free trip to Hawaii? Or Disney? But despite the questions, I kept watching. But then this week, when the show was Jon, Kate and the Choppers, I only watched half (which I had fast forwarded through a lot of) before I deleted it. I liked the show for the kids and family interactions. I now have no desire to watch anymore episodes! So thanks TLC! You have broken my addiction!! Hopefully, Jon and Kate will get the hint with the declining ratings, go to marriage counseling and live a Happily Ever After life...together with their 8 and NO cameras!

something just suddenly struck me!!?? When this show first began? Kate and Jon said they were so busy with the Babies that they wanted this to be a way of videotaping everything because they were too busy to be able to do so themselves.
Well excuse me but NOW the kids are in school!? well the little kids will be in Kindergarten right?
so doncha think that Kate has ample time to be Video-taping family events now? taking their own family shots?!

oh right? I forgot!? she really HATES that camera she (used to ) have. I'm sure she's been 'gifted' a dozen since those old days.
my point is? I think the Time to record the babies is L-O-N-G since over.

I think so too, but Kate would simply delegate that to the help, and then TLC would spin it to look like Kate and the kids did it all! Just like they spun her supposed organization skills, which in reality is just Kate delegating and barking-out orders to everyone.

Great recap!

Didn't I read before that Jon was in NY the beginning of June, supposedly filming with the OCC guys, the same time Kate left with the kids to go to North Carolina? That's when he was photographed with Dr. Glassman's wife and daughter at the bar. I read somewhere that he was in their area because he was filming at the American Chopper place, which is close to the Glassman's.

If that is true, then that means he was filming parts of this episode ( supposedly building the bike ) after the bike was already given to him on May 23rd, and also after Kate's scooter was given to her and donated.

I didn't pay much attention, but did they actually show Jon at the AC place in a same shot with an unfinished bike in the process of being built?

Could this bike have already been built...they told Jon specifically what to ask for as far as design and specifications...and made it appear he custom ordered it? Is it possible it was already built before they ever filmed and they just pretended to be building it with Jon there?

Am I making any sense?

I need to find where I read Jon was in NY filming with the OCC guys at the beginning of June...long after the bike was already given to him.

Re: Craft Time

Kate took every opportunity to turn the attention onto herself. The comment about her hair being "the talk of the town" was pretry deluded. People talk about her hair because we all hate it. Does she GET that?

She also said that she managed to find an unopened craft project which of course she helped herself to. No focus on her children at all except when she begged for one of their trees to add it to her project.

This is in reply to the person who stated that this ep is when the series jumped the shark. I have to disagree. At least for me, The KON Show jumped the shark more than a year ago when Queen-Kate denied her son's their cupcake and made them watch the girls have theirs. So utterly cruel.

Spot on, Girl!! Wow. Your combo of insight and humor is priceless. Thanks.

Who does Kate think that she is laying on the couch like that? The new Cleopatra?

Mystical said...

Jennifer D., I noticed that too. Kate is unable to focus on anything other than herself. It's really getting worse and worse. Another example was when she was droning on & on over how Paul Sr. secretly hoped she'd ride with him on his bike, and how proud he was of her for doing so. She added, "I was proud of myself"!. Then when she took the pic of the kids and couple of the OCC guys, she said, "Who loves mommy. Raise your hand if you love mommy." GEEZ! I paid attention to who raised their hand, and only Alexis did. There are endless other examples of this, but we all know the drill by now. The craft project was without a doubt a stand-out example on the "all about Kate" obsession she has with herself.

Does anyone know if the number of viewers for the rerun of the new episode at midnight is counted in the number of viewers that TLC releases to the press?

***************

Those are the Neilsen ratings and they are only based on the first showing, so the 9 PM eastern. They do not include later showings such as the 11PM eastern, which is the broadcast a lot of people on the west coast would catch

****************

Actually, on the west coast they show almost everything on the same schedule as the east, we have the west coast "version" of TLC and other cable/network channels. So we get it at 9 pm our time. Only in central and mountain time do they see stuff earlier/later.

I have not watched since last season and am not going to start now. Seems to me that nothing has changed. From reading the blog and seeing the magazine and media coverage, it seems like it has really gone from bad to much worse. Don't fall for any of their PR schemes. They know they are losing viewers and are scrambling. I guess this will be all over the news for the rest of the week leading into Monday and then they will see a ratings win. I think they have a lot of episodes in the can already so that they can go overseas and film.Maybe that is why Kate went and had her hair done.

Jaden's Mom said...

I watched both episodes, and liked the AC version MUCH better. Both shows were staged, of course, but I liked that the AC version seemed to focus more on Jon...which was supposed to be the point anyway.

I was so disgusted by Kate's attitude during the whole thing. As usual, she was totally lacking in gratitude and humility, she was insulting, she never missed a chance to show disrespect to her husband, and she pawned her kids off on the not-a-nanny, or Mikey, for the entire event.

I thought it was funny when she took that Vespa to the RM House. The lady who accepted the donation did not seem terribly impressed with Kate. Honestly, it's difficult to look like you are making a donation out of humble gratitude when you have a film crew there to record the event for national television. It was just more of the, "I'm Kate, I'm So Great" show.

As for the falling ratings, TLC has a handle on that, too. The commercials for next week's show are about the big announcement Jon and Kate are making that will impact the entire family, and hopefully give both Jon and Kate some peace.

I see another ratings spike coming.

I understand that. However, if you read the ratings on the Neilsen site they say that they are specifically based on the 9 PM EASTERN time broadcast. I've heard the ratings guys on tv discuss it and they said for the cable shows they do not add in the 9PM showing for the Pacific time zone, but they do provide the networks with the numbers. Often when they discuss ratings on shows they give them separate, for the eastern and pacific. Now for some reason for the network shows they do add them together. I have no idea why the do it different for cable shows.

Can't believe said...

This was the first episode I'd watched in a long time. Actually, I'm not sure if I was watching the J&K version or the AC one.
Does Her Highness really think her autograph on the pink puke scooter (apparently the boys at OCC knew it wouldn't be appreciated so why waste time on a cool paint job when you could throw some paint at it) will make it bring in a 'horrendously horrendous' amount of money for the Ronald McDonald auction. Was that her attempt to teach the kids about giving to others (only if it has been given to you and you're not that crazy about it)
I can't believe that any normal mom of 8 (or less for that matter) would have the time or money to make so many trips to the spa. Or that an unemployed father of 8 would get a custom chopper from OCC. So much for 'reality' TV Both of those are good examples of ways to bring a family of 10 together.
I hope the J&K accountants (again I'm sure a normal family has their own accountants) aren't going to try and use the scooter gift to the RMD auction as a charity tax deduction since it was given to them.
Why doesn't she use some of her acreage for growing some organic produce that she's always babbling about??? Might be a nice thing to get the kids involved in. OH, no--that wouldn't work they might get dirty. And she might have to get off the white plastic throne to show them what to do (if she even knew how to do it). The kids might get a stain on their clothes--man why so paranoid about clothing. Why not have some 'play clothes' that it wouldn't matter if they got some stains on them. They wouldn't have to wear them out and about on one of their free adventures.
It just becomes more unbelievable with each show.
Great recap.

Great recap to a terribly boring show.

While helmuts are optional in PA, I think it was absolutely irresponsible as parents to ride without them. While they were going slow and I'll assume the road had been closed to the public for the staged shoot, in real life, sometimes cars can hit a bike, even when the biker is riding safely. Way to be great role models to your kids!

Fostersmom, the recap is great.

And to add - who else noticed all of the emphasis, both from Jon and the Chopper guys, on Jon's bike being for only one rider? (Maybe the'll add a supercool customized sidecar later for Dede?)

And the bonus: Paul Senior saying "Jon, we know you want everything top of the line" (or something to that effect). That's just how Gosselins roll. PRICELESS!

And, better late than never: Jon totally dishes it out to Kate. Okay, so it wasn't to her face, but he got in some good jabs at her anyway. In yo' Vespa-rejecting face, helmet-hair head!!

She definately has. How do I know? After my second child, my breasts were a complete mess. We researched it, and my husband said that if I wanted one, he would support it. We also paid for it ourselves. Afterwards, I was so happy with the results, that my sister also went to the same doctor (after 3 kids). Not to get "stripper boobs", mind you. We just wanted to feel like they weren't down to our knees, LOL. I know what it looks like in a shirt, and Kate has 100% had one done!
